9. Most hours I’ve put into a single game is i forget the total amount but the last time i checked i had over 3000hrs in the Sims 4, and sims 3 i know i put in close to 2000hrs

Hello! Here's a Hollowframe zine I made for my 2D design class final last week!

We basically got to make an 8-paged zine + poster designed for a double-sided 11x17" sheet of paper about anything we wanted, so I elected to just reuse stuff I already drew for my ongoing Hollowframe project since I was already buried under other assignments (though I still ended up putting way too much effort into it lol, I even remade the full group arrangement!)

The idea was to split the timeline of the Hollowframe project into four rough "phases", take a warframe from each, and then condense a bunch of info about the design I drew for them into a page each.

I used Photoshop for the page backgrounds, Illustrator to arrange the pages themselves, and Krita to rearrange the full group image.

Pretty happy with how it turned out! I'm honestly mostly glad I finally got an excuse to remake that full group arrangement cause man that dull bluish gray background was not doing it for me anymore lol (though now it's 11x17" rather than 16:9 ratio so maybe not as good for desktop backgrounds but idk if that matters that much? idk i might adjust it back to a 16:9 ratio if people really want me to)

i do think its imporant the Qimir says 'power of two' as previously shown when the power of two was demonstrated it was when two of the coven memebers linked hands to be stronger together to block a more powerful Mother Aniseya. They were equals. They were sharing strength. The fact that this is the dynamic Qimir says he wants i think really plays into the fact that he's not full darksider...he's not a true sith.

not sure when i'll feel that high of Qimir softly touching Osha's arm while she has his saber to his throat again.

But if that's the case: Lmfao Shadow how long were you just watching Vio fight monsters only interrupting when Gannon was mentioned??? X'D

Also, I just LOVE the trope of "Come to our side" particularly in this manga because. Holy Shit it's SO AFFECTIVE as a strategy in theory. If he could get one of them on their side it's affectively an instant win condition, because no matter how much the other three struggle to power up the sword that doesn't quite matter when one of the wielders is uncooperative for whatever reason. The sword is virtually a sharp stick without all four parts lmfao.

Because here's smth to consider: Shadow Link is no stranger to kidnapping and that'd be just as affective in the short term but this dude tries to make friends instead which I find insanely interesting from a character angle. Because being genuine friends with one: MEANS SPARING ONE OF THEM.

When free to get rid of the heroes/incapacitate the four sword in ANY WAY HE WANTS what does he do? He tries to make friends with one of them lmfao.

Like, idk if I can fully convey how like interesting I find that as a concept.

"look who fell from heaven." mahito teases as he looks over to you standing in a corner, lip tucked between your teeth as you gnaw at the growing uneasiness in your tummy, anxiety swirling in an endless pit at the number of people sneaking glances at you in an angel costume; gold-dipped feathers, ruffled white dress stopping short at just the right length revealing soft thighs, your breasts pushed up by a corset, knee-length shoes that fit snugly over your calves, and a pair of wings you probably put way too much effort in compared to everyone else who showed up in cat ears and witches' hats. you wonder when halloween parties become more about the booze and making out in some stranger's bedroom.

"go ahead, i dare you." mahito challenges, with his chin tucked into his palm, he languidly glances over to geto with cool, calculating eyes and he can already see the cogs turning in his head, planning out another one of his sadistic plots.

"not a chance." geto says. he'd make the first move himself if he could, walk towards you, lean in close, and sweet-talk you til you're in his bed, leaving your scent in his sheets, staining his lips with the very essence that drips from you were it not for the way you currently look the very picture of pure; an angel seems so fitting now that he can't pull his eyes away, trailing over a full figure made to perfection, all shy smiles and wide eyes, a cup of fruity punch without a single drop of alcohol, the cheerful wallflower at every party, who scrunches her eyebrows and laughs to herself when she thinks she said something stupid, "sorry, am i making sense?" you say in every conversation, fiddling innocently with your phone like you weren't pretending to text someone just to seem occupied and 'sociable'. even gojo's got his hands tucked into his pockets when he speaks to you, no coy smiles or double entendres, and geto knows he only gets like that when he's speaking to children or the elderly.

"what, you're too good for her?" mahito says. quite the opposite really, he couldn't be the guy who tainted you. how sweet, how lovely you were just standing there, swimming in your own thoughts, thinking about going home and feeling sorry for yourself. he wished he could tell you otherwise, show you exactly how he'd love you, obsess over you. couldn't begin to imagine what you were like when you're coming to life, holding no barriers, letting loose and letting him in. what it would be like when he's hovering over you, dark eyes taking in the sight of your body, salivating and hungry for it, to sink his teeth into your neck and nudge his cock deep inside you. would you try to hide, tell him to look away so he whispers to you all the things he loves to quell your worries, your doubts, or would you show him a side of yourself that's wanting, that you bury deep down inside for true love, your other half, a perfect person, you're one and only. the thought itself so naive yet, he wants you even more because of it.

geto brings his drink up to his lips, condensation from the bottle dripping over his jeans, needing that little bit of liquid courage for his next admission, "she's not my type. good girls, angels, not the kind i'm looking for." he reasons, swallows it down with the bitter taste of asahi. he catches the sight of you watching him, eyes darting away the moment he looks at you, the gesture so endearing something starts to hurt in his chest.

it earns him a laugh in return, "are you serious? you wouldn't last a week before you're in deep," mahito grins, because geto's always going after what he thinks he deserves, girls who would never give him what he longs for ultimately because what he truly wants is too far out of reach. he craves the ones he can protect, with soothing touches and a morning voice calling out to him, 'come back to bed baby.' and he'd stay, if only they wanted him to. "wanna bet on it? either you ask her out or i'll have fun with her myself." mahito leans closer, keeping his voice lowered.

geto tilts an eyebrow up in lieu of asking the meaning behind it because he's never been that much of a prick, sure, mahito loves to fuck everyone else's life up and geto doesn't know when he ever got roped into all of it but this was something else, you were something else. he could've named a dozen times off the top of his head that mahito had hurt a girl, an unsuspecting, trusting girl. with almost methodical precision, knowing exactly how to lead the innocent ones on, pretending to be interested, turn them into a heartbroken mess because it's what he does, toying with people's emotions had been his thing and he imagines you with a swollen face, downcast eyes brimming with tears, the thought seizing him by the guts and twisting into reluctance, frustration pressing on his shoulders in layers.

he breathes in deeply, downs the very last of his drink before he gets up and makes his way over to you. as his steps grow heavier, the only comfort he feels is that you'd be better off dealing with him than with mahito. because at least geto wouldn't hurt you...of course not.

So Healing Hands(that’s the name of the healing magic) is…not exactly explained very well in the the 2012 tv show. It only shows up in one episode, “The Deadly Venom” (ep18 s3) and it’s power varies a lot in intensity.

The first time it’s seen, Splinter uses it on his broken leg, although it would seem all it does is numb the pain. He teaches Healing Hands to Leo and that’s the one he uses throughout the episode. However there are two known mantras. “Healing Hands” and “The Venom Mantra” Leo only learns Healing Hands until the last 5 minutes of the episode where he has to help Splinter heal Casey and his brothers who got hit with Karai’s venom.

So it’s never explained why exactly when Splinter uses Healing Hands, it barely does anything, whereas when Leo uses it, it’s able to counter an extremely toxic venom and heal snake bite wounds in seconds. Now the obvious reason is because plot, but that’s not very helpful for making a concrete canon logic. So I decided it was linked to how much energy you give it! Splinter didn’t want to feel exhausted after cause he wanted to keep sparingly with his son, so he gave it just enough to make it stop hurting, Leo was fine giving up every last bit of energy, cause I mean if it didn’t work he, his brother and Casey were gonna die, so he gave it everything.

In my comic I show it exactly that way. I imagine it works by condensing energy into the palms of your hands and directing it onto wounds to heal them. I never really thought to connect it to ninpo, but one thing I have had in mind with the Rise universe is that magic is easier to access and wield; The laws of the universe aren’t fighting against you so it’s much easier to use magic there. Though I guess you could throw a wrench in that and say that “well when Leo used healing hands on Mikey, they were in the 2012 universe.” Yes that is true, but it also took everything he had to heal him and almost immediately passed out afterwards. I suppose you could also say that learning to use his ninpo has taught him how to use magic easier, essentially making Healing hands more efficient/effective.

But in the end I really don’t know. TMNT 2012, while it has it’s shining moments, it’s also riddled with plot holes, canon inconsistencies and random details that are only relevant for one episode. Again, idk I’m just trying to make sense of this stuff here lol XD

Splash screen!

It's a little bumper so the css can load without it scrabling the home page. It looks alright, but to add some more text to the image, I have to make a new one in the death screen generator, which is not ideal.

I've changed the middle window so it fits in better with the rest. Not very visually exciting there in terms of color, but it is for now the best look imo. Text there is aligned justified, I've condensed it a bit more and added the randomized quote section underneath it instead of it being a seperate window on the side.

To do list needs an update but is still accurate. The team is still there, but on the other side, I have set the blinkies to be a bit larger. The music player has been removed because I couldn't find a way to add songs to it that weren't included on the source site. Snufkin is here now. The webrings will need some more. Retronaut is there, but not functioning as it should. it just forwards you to random sites in the ring instead of where it should be, but I can't find what exactly I'm doing wrong with the code.

Another thing that is not working on neocities itself is the "last updated" part. For some reason it doesn't display there what it does display on my local html. Maybe a bug at neo.

And icons at the top on the nav par! Adds some more flair to the place. The footer has also received a minor update: it now has a sitemap link instead of another back-to-home url.

About!

I'm thinking of moving the small window with the short info to the right, but it is here for now. Links that are web-building related are on the right, also for my own referencing. The essentials lists on the left are hidden on load, but can be revealed by tapping the puttons. The lists are in tree-view and the window shouldn't expand over the cassette image once the construction sign is removed. Speaking of, the cassette has a lil playlist.

I might expand on the info a bit more, but that is for me to ponder. I liked including links to tumblr, the guestbook, and a button in case anyone wants to link my site on theirs.

Writing!

Hasn't really changed much. I've been looking at moving the sidebar info to be in the main section upon load, but idk if that would just make things more complicated. Right now it loads to an empty section there, stuff appears once you click a button. PDF support is only available once I'm a supporter of neocities, which i do wanna do but isn't a priority atm just for getting this part running. The links to ao3 will do just fine for now.

The space for my rambling. It can be browsed by entry through the post-it, and all that seems to be functioning alright. Added a kitty and a sticker for decoration. The Stop Making Sense bumper sticker will now load a local video of the performance, but once again I won't be able to add this to the site until I get a supporter thing going. Decided to add a page for it. Basic info, schedule, link to the room, my letterboxd, and an overview of past movies. It's a nice spot on the site that is also the most cramped, but I like how it turned out.

It's cool that it has it's own thing, but I'm not sure if something that is basically a fanfic warrants such a space. That, or I keep it and drop all my other-media stuff in here so there's more to look at.

Trimax and possible Tristamp spoilers?

I’ve been thinking about the way they incorporated Meryl into the JuLai storyline in Stampede, and I’m beginning to wonder if that was their way of getting JuLai and Meryl’s kidnapping from Trimax out in one shot.  It has similar storybeats, including her finally seeing Vash going full Eldritch Angel when he rescues her.

I’m honestly not really sure how I feel about that, if it is what they’re doing.  I mean it makes sense, in that it will be helping condense the story down so that they can fit the important storybeats into the show, but in doing so, they would be losing the really fascinating character growth we saw between the two of them in the manga.  That event was a huge deal for Meryl, it absolutely terrified her and she was scared of him for a long time.  It was a whole subplot that wasn’t verbally addressed much by the two of them, but was absolutely shown in their interactions and the way she went from terrified, feeling guilty about that terror, and finally being able to overcome it and be there for him when he needed her support the most.  It was just so.  Good.  It helped show that while the reader might see his transformations and be like “Oh man, that looks cool!” it was actually legitimately horrifying for everyone involved, even those who were closest to him.

His transformations are scary, he doesn’t like it, Meryl doesn’t like it, Wolfwood doesn’t like it.  Nobody knows how to deal with it when it happens.  It’s a whole thing, so many people, Vash included, are just terrified of that power and what he’s capable of and how inhuman he looks and sometimes acts when he’s completely lost in his own head.  It’s an important part of the message of learning to accept yourself and live with yourself regardless of your failings, and of not judging people by what they appear to be, but instead to measure their worth by their actions, instead.  Learning to love those around you, learning to forgive yourself, etc.

IDK.  I can see where they would want to take this shortcut, and I’ve loved pretty much everything else they’ve done with the show, so I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they’ll handle it well.  I just think we’d be losing an important element of the story if they reduced the tension that existed between them because of Meryl’s trauma to the way the events in JuLai went down in episodes 10-12.  I think it could have an even better impact in Stampede, even, if they did have that tension now, because until now, she’s only ever seen him be soft spoken, sweet, gentle, only raising a hand to harm others when he absolutely had to and absolutely never losing control or killing someone.  He’s so much softer than Vash is when we first encounter him in Trimax, so to have him go from that extremely gentle soul to someone who’s so lost, has so much power, and is pushed so far over the edge that he’s reduced to this:

And at the same time, when he shields her with his wings earlier in this event, there’s a moment when she’s linked into his mind and seeing his memories.  I feel like that’s something that’s important, too, and damn if it didn’t take me rereading through the manga to find that page to realize what had happened.  (Though tbf, a lot of the action in the series is like that; you have to interpret the visuals, it doesn’t hold your hand and narrate what’s going on, so sometimes it takes multiple, multiple rereadings to figure out what exactly you’re seeing.  It’s both good and bad, tbh.  Nightow is showing the reader a lot of respect in expecting them to not need to be told what is happening, but there are still some times when a little tiny bit of direction might have been useful.  :’D)

All of that, plus just giving the viewer their first glimpse into the fact that even when he’s not being controlled by his brother, Vash can still go full Plant mode, can absolutely lose control and become a being that is a threat to everyone around him unless he manages to regain his senses, would be a very, very important scene to lose.  So honestly, I really hope they don’t condense the story the way it seems they might have, or that they find a way of showing these important beats in another way.  Vash’s Big Badass Moment in episode 12 was fuckin’ amazing, don’t get me wrong!  I was screaming and cheering him on from my couch the entire episode!  But it’s not the full story and there’s a lot that would be lost if that was all they took from this part of the story in Trimax.

just finished watching the first p3 movie and i want to write my thoughts down.

first, about the art style of the movie. i thought that it'd be more of a deterrent but i got used to it pretty fast. the animation and art is a bit jank at some times but the composition and overall vibes are reaaaally good! the ambience in the dorm and at the dark hour are immaculate.

they made akihiko very ugly, however. it pains me to see him. it also pained me to see whitewashed kazushi and normie-fied kenji. god i hope they don't do the same to yuko...

i know that when it comes to animation, you have to make choices on how to allocate resources but idk.

second, the voice acting. i played reload w/ the english voices because the english voice actors tend to be really good for modern persona games, however i hate watching dubbed anime so i went for english subbed movie. the voices were alright for the most part, the only caveat to that being that yukari's voice acting was a bit too cutesy and high pitched. that being said, i think the voice matched her character in the movie, even tho i have complaints about her portrayal in the movie.

third, plot changes. i didn't mind how they condensed the time, because otherwise they would have had to make a 5+ hour long movie which would have sucked. i do wish we had at least seen how Makoto had met his social links, if not his interactions w/ them.

the added fuuka and moriyama scenes were really good tho! fleshed out some stuff that needed fleshing out. i also liked that makoto stayed behind during the fuuka rescue mission. it gave him some external struggle and gave pharos something to do that wasn't just standing around being ominous as fuck.

to quote my sister "i still hate that little shitstain but at least he's doing something" (i don't hate the little man, but she does)

fourth, yukari and junpei. those two are my fav members of SEES, they stayed in my party 'till the end, so i have the strongest opinions on their portrayals in the movie.

i'll be positive first, i really liked junpei in the movie. he had that classic iori charm without shying away from his flaws. he's hot and cold w/ Makoto in a way that i felt p3 reload was lacking. i really liked the "personal space" bit as well. that moment where Makoto called back to the "watching my six" thing from the beginning of the movie was so cute too.

that being said, i have complaints w/ movie yukari. listen. she's just too soft. i need her to have more edge and bitchy-ness. i didn't even sense any of the tension that was supposed to be between her and mitsuru because she was being too chill and polite about it. when akihiko asked if she didn't want to be alone w/ mitsuru because she didn't get along w/ her, the movie didn't do the work to make me believe he was right.

when Makoto offered her a hand after she fell on the monotrain, i wanted her to slap his hand away before maybe apologizing, saying that she didn't need his help. it just didn't quite feel like yukari.

Hurt No Comfort - it's just. ugh. I really wanted a good end to this challenge, and I feel like this scene was majorly lacking. I don't know if it was the writing or the pacing or what, but I really kinda just want to scrap it and start with a different prompt

Twelve Drummers Drumming - I LOVE this concept. but I hate how it turned out. idk i just get squirmy whenever I look at it. So much lost potential. I've been saying I'd rewrite it for over a year now and havent

Seth the Secret Spiller - This just makes me sad and idk if I want to change Seth's involvement or write less or more of him or work him in in other ways but I hated how this ended and the scene itself seemed a little rushed at the start.

Making a Dent - Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb stupid time skip. the pacing of this series is so fucked, I wish I could redo this and somehow magically make it smoother

Save a Horse Swipe a Cowboy - The weak link in my best series. The bitch. Idk if I wanted more buildup for this kidnapping or if I should have broken it into two parts and had some conflict in it, but it seemed very...performative? More like a summary of what happened than a real scene. I didn't like it. I liked the Nate/Ethan interactions and I think how I detailed moments rather than the whole thing almost worked, but I'm still dissatisfied.

Who Did You Meet? - I just. The pacing of them getting on the table. I still feel dissatisfied with it but I was (and always am) too lazy to rewrite.

when i found out that me and my irl bestie are studying in a same uni like forreal (okay so during graduation day in my high school, both of us were joking about meeting together once again at a same uni. then suddenly we both were pursuing foundation studies at different college which both of it are closely linked to my uni. so end up we both got to study together here and istg i'm never feel happier than both of us meet together once again 😭)

a day after my national public exam results came out (okay since there was still a lot of covid cases at that time in my country, the candidates not allowed to take the results from school instead we just able to check by online system. i would say my results are really okay despite there's a one subject that quite ruined my whole result a bit, but i'm so glad that i did really well at that time. okay so the next day, my family made a surprise for me which they sent me a flower bouquet with some cash and chocolates on it and also some desserts during afternoon for celebrating me getting my results. idk why but this is really the most happiest thing that my family did to and i really feel so appreciated a lot istg).

my whole memories during a year of my foundation studies. (idk why but i'm never felt so happy before when i was there. maybe tbh since i'm unable to being myself back when i was highschool due to a lot of toxicity and also pressure from peers, cliques etc etc. it's so much fun for me to get well with my friends my more easier at that time and istg i'm already missing all of them so much since they're all studying in different unis all around the country)

spending time with my father's side family (okay don't get me wrong i'm also love to spend time with my mother's side as well, but somehow there's a lot of my cousins on my dad's side which is i'm always enjoy chit chatting with them. ohh also, since my father is the youngest among his siblings, both him and my mum are really get along with my cousins which mostly older that me and that's why we have a really enjoyable conversation between us <33)

going to the stadium of my local hometown club for the first time (i guess you're still remember that i went there to watch the friendly match against bvb at that time. okay idk why but it's sort of funny a bit that the first time i went to the stadium is for watching a friendly match and not a league or cup match. but yeah it's nice that i'm able to get know about the whole floor layout and the seating area of the stadium since i'm planning to go there once again for some matches, since this football season is getting started for my country)

So, the fiber hanging just makes me feel fancy tbh but it serves the purpose of not having it get condensed in my pocket which makes it more difficult to spin.

The tube seems like an optimal solution if that is your only concern, but there are other factors to consider:

- Can I sit comfortably down while wearing it or will it become obnoxious?

- How long should it be? If too long then the above problem happens, but if too short then it could look a tad silly (gasp!) And we wouldn't want that.

- Yes I could store my spindle inside the tube but that eliminates my urge to display it like the Magically Object it is

- Would my spindle hang from the tube on the outside and could that be managed without it banging around?

If we were to look at the drop spindle itself for a moment, you might see another design hurdle:

While empty, the spindle could easily slot into something like the above linked Wand Holster but once you start to spin and wind your yarn onto the spindle for storage, it develops a conical shape which makes it harder to insert the more wool you wind.

Personally, I would want 2 seperate places to 'park' my spindle; one for my left side of my body and the other for the right side, each affixed near my hips.

This way if I needed to switch to a different method of spinning (park and draft) to sort out a tangle or somesuch nonsense, I could do so why maintaining tension on my wool as needed.

Jumping around again to the idea of the tube for a second because I had a brain blast while typing this up

There are a few different shapes of spindles out there and another popular one is the Emotional Support Spindle which requires the use of a bowl or dish to spin with.

Essentially, think of it like the Beyblade of the spindle world as it adds twist to the wool when you spin it like a top.

This offers the same dilema as the top whirl drop spindle(the yarn makes the spindle conical), as well as providing the need to have bowl/dish to spin with.

What if our carry tube had something like an inset dish under the lid? Currently, this is what I have to carry with me if I'm out and about with my Support Spindle

Personally, I love the idea of the lid of the pouch/tube/fiber carrier having a 'feeder' slot for the fiber to be pulled out from (imagine a kleenex box) but I wouldn't want it to get snagged or such by the act of pulling more out.

Oh, and as if this dilema were in need of more difficulties, allow me to introduce to you the Turkish (or Crossed Arms) Spindle

As these spindles wind on, they make a center pull ball which is very handy but reshapes the spindle to look like this:

soaking usually IS the way to finish yarn ! i'll give you the best step by step i can though (and for future reference, this applies to pretty much every single spinning method, so you can do this with yarns spun on a spinning wheel, a supported spindle, a drop spindle, a navajo spindle, a charkha wheel, or whatever else you might encounter. it's all yarn, so it can all be finished the same way.)

step 0: if you plan on plying your yarn, do it before finishing. you don't need to finish singles if you plan to ply them. finishing relaxes the yarn, so if you finish a singles and then ply it, it will end up being somewhat limp unless you overply it (which makes yarn less elastic and more rough) but if you spun a singles and want it to remain a singles, never to be plied, then you can certainly finish it as a singles.

step 1: remove the yarn from your spindle (or bobbin, or whatever it is on) and wrap it around something as it comes off. a niddy noddy is great for this, but not necessary. you can wrap your yarn around a big hardcover book or the back of a chair, or whatever. when taking yarn off a drop spindle, i usually just toss the spindle on the ground and let it roll around as I wind the yarn off. if you’re worried about it catching on something, put the drop spindle in a box or mixing bowl instead and let it roll around in there.

step 2: tie your yarn off. you can use the messy looking ends of the yarn if you wish, or another piece of yarn or string. just tie a simple knot around the hank. you want at least two knots, but if you're really worried about it tangling, you can do more. the purpose of tying your yarn off is to stop it from tangling in the next steps, to make it easier to work with when you wind it into a ball or cake later, and to keep it looking tidy.

step 2.5: if you want to know your yardage or meterage, this is the time to do so. first, count how many strands you have. second, measure how many inches or centimeters it takes to span the entire length of the book (so, front, back, and the width of both the top and bottom). In this case I think it was 8 strands and 24 inches for the whole book. that means the whole yarn is 192 inches (8x24=192) and the yardage is 5.3 (192/36=5.3). same steps if it’s centimeters and meters, of course. also, if you’re thinking “wow, I have to measure whatever i’m winding my yarn on every time ? that sounds annoying”, then you’re seeing why niddy noddys are so helpful and you should get or make one. my niddy noddy takes 2 yards to span it, meaning whenever i wind yarn on, after counting it i can just multiply my result by 2 and know how many yards i have (if i have 100 strands and i know each strand spans 2 yards, that means my whole skein is 200 yards. so much simpler.)

step 3: soak your yarn. or just get it wet. i usually run my yarn under the tap for a few seconds to make sure it is fully wet, but you can also put it in a bowl with some water and make sure it's fully submerged. leave it there for a few minutes.

step 3.5: if your yarn isn't very soft and you want it to be softer, you can add conditioner (just like, the normal stuff you use for your hair) to the bowl before you put the yarn in to soak. if you're softening it this way, leave it in the bowl of water for at least an hour, or even overnight. when you take it out, rinse it briefly. this step is only necessary if you want your yarn softer.

step 4 (optional): go outside and snap your yarn like a whip a few times. this evens out twist and flicks a lot of the water off, so it will dry faster too. if your yarn has some spots that are really undertwisted or overtwisted or both, this is a good way to help reduce that and make more evenly plied.

step 5: let your yarn dry completely. in the summer i hang my yarn over the clothesline, and in the winter i usually put it over a heating vent. doesn't matter how you do it. remember that wool in particular can feel dry even when it has a fair amount of water in it, so don't grab it the second it feels dry--give it a while longer to actually dry.

you should notice that your yarn looks different now that it's dry. if it's wool, it's likely puffed up some (to varying degrees depending on the breed of animal it came from, as well as whether it was roving or a batt or a rolag or whatever else, and also depending on how you spun it. it's a cool thing to pay attention to.)

step 6: skein your yarn. pick up the hank and drape it over your thumb or hand or whatever. the vast majority of yarns will twist a little in one direction when you do this, from residual twist. some yarns will twist a lot, others only barely. note the direction that it twists in--to the left or to the right. put your other thumb at the other end of the hank, and start twisting one thumb in the opposite direction that your hank twisted in. i usually twist with one thumb until i can't easily twist it anymore, and then twist with the other thumb. your nice loop should now look kind of like a piece of rope, with your thumbs still hooked into each end.

you now want to find the center point of your ‘rope’ and fold it there. your ‘rope’ should kind of snap into place, looking like a much larger version of a 2 ply yarn. it’s nice and stable like this, and can be transported or stored easily (plus it’s pretty !). the last step is to take one of the loops you had your thumb in and push it through the other loop. this stops it from unraveling.

btw: the reason we twist it the opposite direction that it wants to turn is the same reason we ply in the opposite direction that we spin. if you spin Z and ply Z your yarn isn’t going to be structurally sound, and it’ll look pretty bad, too. when it comes to skeining you’re not adding any structural stability to the actual yarn, but the looks still matter--if your Z plied yarn is twisted Z while skeining, your skein will be limp and lifeless and not very pretty. if it’s twisted S, it’ll be nice and balanced and neat looking. it’s purely an aesthetics thing, but it also only takes half a second to figure out, so why not do it ?

and you’re done ! your yarn is now finished and skeined, and you know the yardage/meterage. you can label it with all relevant info if you want (for example: 4 ounces shetland roving, 2 ply, 350 yards, light worsted weight, finished august 2022, spun on a wheel)

Because that post is already long enough, a condensed timeline for how my doctor was able to put things together and figure out that I’m intersex:

I brought a lot of evidence that I’ve been gathering for the past 5 or 6 years and then asked her to look into it, because I found out by complete surprise after thinking maybe I had PCOS or endo that I might actually be intersex instead. How did I find that out?

I had an ovarian cyst I didn’t know about burst and the pain was so severe that my face turned a light grey color (and I’m black so that is... Not A Great Sign) and I collapsed to the floor in the middle of my shift, and it was in the right spot for my appendix to have burst, so my job immediately sent me to the ER because if your appendix ruptures you either get surgery or die. Pre-op bloodwork revealed that my appendix is Fine Actually, so they did an ultrasound and discovered one very upset ovary covered in cystic scarring [bastard] and one ovary that very much did not look like an ovary but did look like an undescended testicle sitting where an ovary should be.

Which I took directly to my mother who proceeded to tell me “oh we’ve known about that since you were born”. WELL IDK WHO “WE” IS BECAUSE I WAS VERY NOT INCLUDED IN THAT DISCUSSION

She linked me to a study on CAH- Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia- which according to her the doctor told her I very likely had when I was born, which she deliberately kept from me because she was afraid it would make me want to be a boy. That was right before I moved to this state so about 5.5ish years ago. I have been working with PCPs and OBGYNs since trying to figure this shit out and at the end of the day I was told to go to an endo armed with all of these “well have you ruled out-” and “could it have been-” dead ends.

My endo looked at the evidence I provided and the medical records ruling out the more common stuff, did a brief physical exam of my body, and went “yeah probably”, did a quick blood test, and as the results trickled in over the next week she went “yeah that’s it all right”.

The specific things she was testing for were: baseline levels of estrogens and androgens [needed for HRT anyway], cortisol levels, and special tests for the components of cortisol as well as what people with CAH make instead of cortisol that the body converts into androgens. What do you know, my estrogen levels are at or below post-menopausal despite me definitely having periods, my testosterone is juuuuuuuuuuust touching the low end for a cis man, There Is No Cortisol Here, and I have a lot of loose ends my body should be turning into cortisol but is actively choosing not to do that and to turn it into androgens instead. So, that pretty much sealed the deal.

As for my ovary vs testicle problem- that is still a mystery and honestly one that will be resolved hopefully next year when I have the damned thing removed. My OBGYN looked at the images from that ER visit and went “yeah that sure doesn’t look like an ovary” but then on her own ultrasound said that it could be deformity or even a benign tumor causing the weird shape and so without actually seeing it outside of my body it will be hard to determine either way. CAH does not inherently do this- most people with Nonclassical CAH have perfectly normal internal genitals, but a study did discover that a non-insignificant number do have some form of mixed genital presentation either externally or internally, so it’s hard to say either way.

This was not a quick process but I do have to say that it would have been slightly faster had COVID not happened, as I was all lined up to start this process mid-2020 and then March Happened. And then things kept happening and I lost my health insurance and I just got it back. So instead of taking 5 or 6 years it would have been 3 or 4. Still not a fast process tbh.

OH MY GOD PLEASE WATCH IT

okay to start with. the live action show is very good and a great place to start but it has some important differences from the novel and the donghua (animated show). i personally prefer a combination of cql (the untamed/the live action, that's the acronym i'll be using for it from now on) and the donghua; the novel suffers a lot of lost in translation effect and whatnot and i personally dislike the way the relationship is built in several places in it as opposed to how the adaptations do it, but it's definitely still worth reading. (dm me on discord if you want a copy of a pretty good fan translation of the novel and also like, a link to a place you can watch the donghua, btw.) other problems with cql: censorship hits the live action the hardest and their budget was i'm pretty sure basically nonexistent (they very clearly spent most of it on the costumes and the props, which you know what, the costumes are fucking stunning so great choice). so they changed the worldbuilding some and like.... the fight scenes? are really not good. they're really not good. also the special effects are universally pretty bad. it can make watching some parts of it difficult to get through, and there are some plot elements that are changed as well that i dislike, and a lot of the moral greyness of the original story had to get removed because again, censorship issues (if you want the most accurate, non-morally-whitewashed take first, you'll want to start with the novel, which is also what has the explicitly gay stuff). it's also not explicitly gay - but the actors played it as gay and there are multiple marriage metaphors and holy fuck like. honestly. there doesn't need to be a kiss or a confession or anything it's REALLY FUCKING GAY.

what cql excels in is its character interactions. the acting is absolutely stunning, the soundtrack is beautiful, and every single scene is just done with so much heart and emotion in it. so definitely keep that in mind going into it. i've watched it all the way through i think 3 or 4 times and i still keep seeing new fun details in the background that i hadn't noticed before.

the donghua, on the other hand, has an absolutely stunning art style, very very good voice acting, the worldbuilding and plot are more accurate to the book, and the magic and combat scenes are much more realistic for a fantasy and the powers they have. however, it, especially specifically the third and final season, is very rushed (and it has its own plot changes to fit how much they had to condense things, mostly just in the second half of season 3) and excludes some details, so it can be confusing if you don't know what you're seeing first. i recommend either watching cql or reading the novel first, then watching the donghua!

in terms of like, actual fandom stuff! so the main character of mdzs is, obviously, Wei Wuxian. i'm not sure how much you know but he's like. an incredibly ADHD man with horrible self-worth issues (despite being arrogant as hell) and a very strong sense of justice who is extremely brilliant and goes through a shitton of tragedy. he is known for inventing a viable form of necromancy, which is considered incredibly heretical and, among other things, gets him killed, and then gets him resurrected, so you know. pros and cons. he does magic by playing the flute. he is a disaster bisexual and also a bit of an alcoholic (okay a lot of an alcoholic) and i love him. his love interest is stoic and serious and incredibly autistic-coded and has been in love with him since they were teenagers and literally wrote him a love song. the two of them get trapped in a cave together and have to kill an ancient corrupted divine monster without weapons. it's very romantic. wei wuxian as a younger teenager is basically the epitome of a child pulling a girl's pigtails because he has a crush and is desperate for attention.

anyway, i'm not sure how much you know about the plot, but there's two timelines going on - the present and the past. the present is after wei wuxian is resurrected, and he and lan wangji (the love interest, in case you haven't picked up on the names yet - everyone has like two or three names and it can be hard to tell them apart at first) are basically going on a fun little murder mystery quest while also babysitting a bunch of teenagers which then abruptly devolves into politics, murder, more politics, and more murder. the past on the other hand goes from a high school definitely-not-a-romance to a goddamn war drama to politics and back to. hm. not exactly a war drama anymore but i'm really not sure how to describe everything that happens after a certain event. it's all very much a tragedy and the real "villain" of the story (which is less obvious in cql, again because of moral whitewashing due to censorship, though honestly i feel like they did a pretty good job of staying as true to the source material as they could all things considered, a whole lot of the scenes were word for word from the novel just slightly edited to fit the adjusted worldbuilding or plot changes) is the mob mentality, rumors and gossip and hearsay, and society itself!

okay so basically the background of this au is that there is this ancient all-knowing being ( which I, in my head, imagine as a more distorted and larger version of the nightmare archivist ) of dark magic. Dark magic(DM) is opposed to light magic(LM) and if a lm user tries to use dm it will hurt them and Vice versa. Dark magic ≠ black magic, the two are entirely different concepts in this. Dark magic is linked to knowledge of the forbidden and other concepts of the being.

this ancient being gets sealed into a void at some point for its dubiously ethical methods of gaining more knowledge ( using dark rifts to see into new worlds yet also being destruction if anything escaped, using its knowledge to benefit only itself by learning the magic of floating, never sleeping with its countless eyes all open at different times ). obviously, since it cannot gain knew knowledge in a void, it becomes rather mad and wants to devise a plan to influence the world even though it cannot directly contact it anymore.

its master plan is to create a cookie that can learn for it and essentially become all of its knowledge and prowess condensed into one form, a magnum opus of the being’s knowledge and power gained from existing, and then release them into the world. It creates a cookie made of the most pure and dark caffeine and then drops them as a child into the world, altering a few cookies’ memories to make them think he’s always been there ( The cookie is Espresso if that wasn’t already obvious )

( getting into hc territory here for a second, this is just me explaining my regular backstory for Espresso and Latte ) Espresso grows up in the coffee tribe in the Dark Cacao Kingdom with Latte as his cousin until they have to leave on their own for the Republic when they’re around 13-14(?? I can never decide cookie ages) because their place got overrun with cake monsters.

they attend a magic school in the Republic with Eclair. ( who goes there because I want to be self-indulgent, but if you want a plot reason why they’re not in the kingdom it’s because they grew up there before leaving soon after they became an adult. ) Latte is the more social of the two cousins while Espresso mostly stays to himself, but he becomes friends with Eclair mostly because of the latter‘s persistence. ( and because they have a crush on Espresso )

anyways one day Espresso asks Eclair to look into stuff ( specifically, the ingrained hatred of light magic- even he doesn’t know why it almost burns his soul when he tries to use it, nor why he knows so much about things he shouldn’t. Eclair finds a book detailing the all-knowing being and shows it to Espresso, who immediately has the dots click in his head that he is in some way related to this being.

knowing how the Republic sees dark magic ( hc it to be viewed with intense scrutiny compared to light magic ), Espresso makes Eclair promise to keep it a secret, and they make him promise to tell them if anything happens relating to the all-knowing being.

that’s the basic premise of it, but I have been planning out a story involving the reappearance of the dark rifts in canon and the all-knowing being ( who still does not have a name yet )! Might post my theory-crafting on that later if it garners enough interest.

I don’t really have a name for this au yet?? Ive tentatively called it DMATA ( Dark Magic At The Academy ) but I will gladly accept other suggestions
