anyway i want to rant about why americans annoy the shit out of me and why yes i will be bringing up emily in paris again shut up

americans annoy me bc everything has to be about them at all times and when its not its "erasure". like no its not. its always american racism, american homophobia, american slavery, american struggles, american this american that. everyone is expected to know everything and care about what is going on in america at all times while they dont know anything that goes on everywhere else.

like? for how long where people mad about the hijabi ban in france? or the protests in china? (could be japan?) (to be completely honest i didnt really follow the news for a while for my mental health, please correct me if i make mistakes)

and when americans do speak out about issues in other countries they are either A: immigrants or children of immigrants or B: spreading misinformation/outdated information.

for example: the black pete (zwarte piet) situation in the netherlands. first off i want to say that yes, it is racist, argue with a wall. but my problem comes when americans read half a wiki page, make a half assed tiktok with their earphone mic and state things as complete fact as shock factor. like yes, it is racist, but no, it isnt as a common practice now. does it still happen? of course, there will always be racist people sadly. but it erases all the hard work from black people, poc and allies who fought for it to stop. we still have a long way to go but stop using present tense because we are fucking working. and also maybe stop using actual issues as shock factor? might be nice idk

reasons why i hate this show; a two worded summary: american gaze

im going to be honest with yall. when i first watched emily i thought that she was supposed to be unlikeable and would later change. boy was i wrong. nope! this is just who she is! a self entitled american who we are supposed to like!

she comes this new country that does not have english as their language, she does not learn their language and is thus not able to understand or do her job well, she proceeds to be baffled by this. she then continues making fun of said language or starts asking dumb question and making useless comments about it because it is not something she is used to. this is supposed to be funny and reasonable. because how dare these french people that live in france speak french? they should be changing their entire lifestyle, workplace, city and mayhaps even country so this american can feel welcome :0! how dare they! and when it gets pointed out that she has the fucking audacity, they are mean and uptight and unreasonable. typical french people! ahaha! i sure love me some casual xenophobia in my american propoganda shows!

there is also a lot of casual racism with her asian best friend on which i dont feel qualified talking about but just remember! the writers are white american men!

i think the best way to discribe emily is that she has the audacity. the audicity of an american. when something isnt like your exact experience they are in the wrong! unless ofc when its exploitable

you ever just get filled with a sudden urge to razz on americans for a bit? like i know a lot of lovely american induviduals but as a group? full body cringe so to say
