AA6 is very enjoyable again btw
#just fyi theres gonna be spoilers in these tags#so i kinda felt a low in 6-3 which is odd bc that's the Maya case#idk I'm also not a fan of Nahyuta#so each trial was kind of...sitting it out#like i get that Mean Prosecutor to Likeable Prosecutor pipeline is kind of The Thing#(except klavier)#but Nahyuta straight up mentally abusing you and insulting you with childish insults is just...idk#he's not even a good prosecutor lol#ANYWAY 6-4 was amazing and I wish Athena got more than just the one trial#she deserved more#Geiru was amazing and I came all this way just for her and it was worth it#i was kind of dreading 6-5 bc i knew it was gonna be long and Apollo centered and I'm....not that interested in Apollo?#dont get me wrong I *like* Apollo. and aa4 is a great game too#but you could tell in DD that they didn't know what to do next#so they shoehorned Clay in there and it was so inorganic that I couldn't bring myself to invest in it#but I love Dhurke. i love Apollo's dynamic w Dhurke. it's a bit of a stretch that Apollo *never* mentioned Khura'in before but I'll take it#SO ANYWAY investigation 1 has been REAL FUN#and I'm now in the trial and I'm laughing my ass off because I DIDNT EXPECT TO HAVE A NORMAL CIVIL CASE??#and also i went from 'oh cool im going against phoenix :)' to 'oh no im going against phoenix :/'#the moment he's in front of you he's immediately this mysterious hard-to-read attorney#it's consistent Phoenix characterisation and i love it#cant wait#also theyre all so super dramatic abt this like apollo and phoenix are now sworn enemies forever#besties it's technically Just a Case about legal ownership#i understand that there's Stakes but man#so uh...yeah i found the motivation to finish this game#and then I'll be done. I'll have played every aa game

❀ Sister Iris ❀
A few days ago I felt like drawing Iris in this outfit and using some of my Acrylic inks. It was fun but I do want to do a digital version of this drawing at some point cuz I couldn't get the colours just right and I might also change up the shoes and other details for the digital version, idk for now as I don't plan on doing the digital version anytime soon :P
Rest of post contains AA3 and AA6 spoilers
Also I gave her a butterfly earring cuz I personally hc that pink butterflies are an important symbol to Kurain village, specifically to spirit mediums and come from Khura'in (cuz they do have the butterfly on a lot of things in Khura'in). To add to my hc, I like to think the pink butterflies are either associated with spirits, or are actuality spirits.
I tend to lean towards the later for my hc cuz we see a pink butterfly near Nahyuta in court (which makes sense since apart of his goal as a prosecutor is to give victims soul's salvation), pink butterflies appear when you get a not guilty verdict in Khura'in (and they even come from the Pool of Souls!) and Dahlia has multiple pink butterflies surround her when she acts sweet and wouldn't you know it, she's a known murderer (which adds a dark connotation to the butterflies that surround her)! But that's just a little pink butterfly fan theory of mind that is probably not very original as I doubt I'm the first person to make these links XD

(Alright, going to stop procrastinating and finally make this post.) After playing through the new trilogy in French to see what was different, here are some things about the French localisation of Spirit of Justice I thought you should know:
First of all, I usually like the French and English versions of the games equally. This marks the first time I've actually enjoyed the French version... more than the English one?? Especially Turnabout Revolution? Don't get me wrong, I already loved it in English, but I think the next time I replay it I'll actively choose French. Idk man it just hits different when a bunch of French people are talking about revolution and overthrowing the tyrannical regime etc
Oh yes, speaking of which, yes, the "Japanifornia" parts of the game take place in Paris, France, as usual. No, I have no idea how Kurain village can be next to the mountains and also the sea while also being in the vicinity of Paris. I also don't know why the entire population of a small country in the Himalayas are fluent in French and use it on a daily basis. But seriously, the main characters mention SO OFTEN that they're French and from France, like, all the fricking time. Remember the incredibly Japanese rakugo case? Imagine that taking place in France.
The Khura'inese pun names are hysterical in French. An example that English speakers can get too: the first culprit's name in French is Sterh'uey Tu'heiven. I'm not making this up. That's his name.
RAYFA'S FRENCH VOICE ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE A TEENAGER INSTEAD OF A 30 YEAR OLD, THANK THE HOLY MOTHER
Unfortunately the Holy Mother giveth, but she also taketh away, and they gave Nahyuta a crunchy old man voice that doesn't suit his ethereal appearance at all...
Athena has now added German and Italian to her random English and Spanish phrases from the prev game. I mean... it made sense before, since she was meant to have lived in the USA in this version, but now I guess she just does it for fun? Who knows
French Roger Retinz uses €50 notes (euros) to fan himself instead of dollar bills
Inga's full name is "Inga Karkhuul Kel Nomh Bowkhou Tro'lon Pohm'peu Eh'Duhr Apronh Ons'ai Khura'in III" ("quel nom beaucoup trop long, pompeux et dur à prononcer")
Nahyuta's nickname in French is just "Yuta"
Ema and Apollo now use informal pronouns for each other, so do Ema and Trucy now, Maya starts using informal pronouns for Apollo from almost the first moment she meets him (though he uses formal pronouns for her lmao), and yes Dhurke and Apollo use informal pronouns with each other the whole time, even when things are awkward at the start. Rayfa and her mother always use formal pronouns for each other, which is a little depressing.
AS FOR NAHYUTA AND APOLLO... HOHOHO. Obviously they're both using "vous" (formal) in court, but in the scene afterwards Apollo switches to "tu" (informal) when he asks Nahyuta if he remembers him. Later in Turnabout Revolution, Apollo has gone back to vous but he's at least saying "Nahyuta" rather than "Prosecutor Sahdmadhi" or whatever (I think that happened in the English version too). Then during the final trial, after that one insanely angsty scene, Apollo starts using tu again and even (internally) uses the nickname Yuta once! Nahyuta eventually starts referring to him as Apollo and starts using tu after finally openly acknowledging Apollo as his family aaauuuuuugh ;o;
(Listen Apollo usually always tries to be formal and professional in court so this is a big deal!!! It's a big deal to me at least!!!!!!!!!)
In the English version there were a few times our good ol' American Apollo had a sort of "haha I'm just a foreigner I don't know anything here" vibe which... no you're not lol. The French version didn't have that (or at least toned it down a lot) and made him feel less like a tourist and more like an immigrant returning to his old home country with complex feelings, which he is. It makes it more personal that he's the one to bring about the revolution imo -- he's not some random foreigner swooping in to save the day, this is his home and his family, he belongs here. (As an immigrant myself I find aspects of him relatable and will defend his Khura'inese backstory to the death DON'T TEST ME)
The "what's crack-a-lackin' homie" line in all its glory:
#WESH GROS. BIEN OU BIEN. i freaking love this guy#anyway uh sorry for going off on tangents in the middle of this one#(as if i didn't also do that in all the other posts...)#ace attorney#aa6 spoilers#spirit of justice#random stuff#i almost cried when nahyuta switched to tu#okay yeah there's still some parts that were better in english but overall french wins this round#i'm serious about apollo's backstory btw. it's very dear to me#i could write an essay about how it recontextualises his personality and reactions in the 4th and 5th games#and makes a lot of stuff about him make even more sense and even makes some old parts feel like foreshadowing#'oh he's unrelatable and different now--' skill issue.#my boy is perfect and i love him in ALL THREE games

Any funny explanations for characters so far?
There is one for Nahyuta Sahdmadhi from Ace Attorney
"MAN. just fucking LOOK at them. they were originally supposed to be nongendered but fsr this was not canonized 😔 yuta facts! they are such a bitch! they will send you their curt little insults and roll their eyes and fling beads at you. every single butterfly in the country is their friend. their accessories defy gravity by pure swagness alone. my gnc little hater"
There is also 2 responses that just say "Gayboi" (I havent read them so idk who theyre for)
A response for Dean Winchester from Supernatural also goes
"His gender is Man. His gender is Mom. His gender is Cowboy. His gender is Boy Who Is A Girl (With A Gun). He's a twink. He's a DILF. Numerous Tumblr posts exist as to how he is "woman-coded" by the narrative (existing to be cool and hot and teach the other main character things and give him complexes) everyone on the show wants to fuck him. So does the actor who plays him and many of the fangirls and somehow all of the straight male fans. I didn't have any men in my life as a child so I constructed my idea of manhood out of fictional characters, mostly him, and now I'm a trans guy. He canonically enjoys wearing women's underwear, but that's like, a sex thing. He refers to himself as having been a mother. And not in a way like the show was making a joke, but as a serious emotional thing. His idea of being a man is being his father. He idolizes his father. He hates his father. He pushes toxic masculinity on both his brother and his, ahem, 'best friend'. He has very pretty lips."
I know there is more funny one, I just haven't gotten to go through them yet (There is around 200 responses rn)

One June Global Studios changes their social media profile picture to. Idk a rainbow mr monkey or something and most people are like "yeah ok superficial pride month stuff I guess" and then it hits July and it just. Doesn't change back. People assume they forgot but it's on all the accounts and they're still posting regularly. Finally a week in someone asks and the response is just "I'm the social media manager and I'm gay. Also everyone else is cool with it. -Cody"

Not to be an ace attorney fan or anything but Ive been watching murder mystery shows and it makes me appreciate mystery video games more. Video games are genuinely one of the best mediums for a classic whodunnit and its a shame that we dont get more of them. Let me explain.
In a video game, you are active in the story. You have to follow the logic of the mystery. You have to know what's going on. What the player character knows, you know, so you can't just have a talk offscreen and come into the big reveal with a new fact no one had ever heard.
Now, I've been watching a lot of Elementary lately. It's pretty good, I enjoy it, but inherently, Sherlock knows things that the viewer does not. The camera can cut away from him while he's questioning someone. He has knowledge of the in-show universe that we do not, but sometimes that knowledge gets brought up too late. We can't follow the process, so we just have to trust that what he's saying is true and right. Like, they'll introduce some random guy we haven't heard of or met most of the way through an episode and then say "This is a famous serial killer and the crime fits his MO perfectly" and we just kinda have to go with it.
Meanwhile, with Ace Attorney, you see everything Phoenix or Apollo or anyone sees. If there was a thing that happened that's relevant to the case, it will either be internally monologued about, explained aloud to someone else, or told to you directly. You Know what the character knows (with a few notable exceptions like whatever the fuck was going on in DD but thats mostly because of the timeline, how Phoenix knows Edgeworth in game 1 before the class trial explanation in 1-3, Nahyuta and Apollo being siblings, etc). Anything you DONT know that the character knows is irrelevant to the case. There can be twists, but they're things that turn your preconceived notions about a case around, not just grabbing some random guy in the last 5 minutes and saying "it was him!"
Im just having some thoughts

My #1 post of 2022
They really made Apollo’s best friend an astronaut and they were so right to do it. IDK the direct translation of his Japanese name but at least in english we’ve got the Apollo space missions AND the fact that Apollo is the God of the sun. It feels obvious

PLEASE I NEED A SITCOM FOR THE LA PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
Miles the long-suffering boss and possibly only sane person in the entire building. Which tells you how low the bar for sanity is
Franziska who periodically returns to LA to rain hellfire and whiplashes on everyone.
She secretly just misses her brother. So does he, miles is a soft bitch let's be real
Klavier who's second in running for most sane man in the building. Possibly also most normal person but like nobody in this office is normal so
Klavier who has a whole fuckin music school shoved up his office and does air guitars during meetings. Calls his actual guitars his girlfriends. Always starts (harmless) shit around the office. Doesn't go home on time ever please get some sleep young man
Tries to get Edgeworth to assign him cases where apollo is defending just to bug both of them.
Blackquill resident skunk emo. Will swordfight you for edgeworth's honor. Glowers silently at the waitress as Athena cheerfully says that 'Simon asked for no pickles'. Damn he just needs friends fr.
Nahyuta just roasting the living shit out of everyone with a perfectly impassive face every chance he gets. He will sell your soul for a corn chip and he'll do it looking like the picture of divinity. cast Prayer of Get Bent and Die.
Sebastian... Poor little meow meow. Someone help this kid oh god did anyone tell him the coffee machine spews milk everywhere when you try to turn it on-
Is godot out of prison? He might be dead. I'm gonna say he's out. Motherfucker sits there and watches the chaos like it's a fireworks show. Look at that shit eating grin. He broke the coffee machine.
Hmm, I personally think Lana would leave the whole law enforcement thing after her entire ordeal. Maybe she's the retired old boss who occasionally lends advice when shit hits the fan.
Justine Courtney occasionally popping in to smarmily check on the prosecutor's office. "How have things been going, chief prosecutor?" *miles cries into his open palms*
And true to AAI fashion, Phoenix never makes a direct appearance. Never. Only cameos. He's always just mentioned, or he's on the other end of a phone call, or it's Miles waxing poetic about how "the sight of that man still shines brilliantly in my eyes" or whatever the hell else he says about Phoenix when he's not around (why is he like this), or he's working on so and so case and oh yeah he just left my office actually. You just missed him!
Trucy shows up to remind Miles that she's got a show at the wonderbar on saturday night and asks if he's going to come watch. Of course, as if your father gave me a choice, he says. They both know he wanted to go anyways lol.
Except for ONE instance in the season finale where we FINALLY see Phoenix in person. What scene is this? Idk lol I didn't think that far ahead. But he's there finally.
I have no idea where I was going with all this but I NEED it.
for @aaprosecutorweek day 3: comedy (thinking about prosecutors sitcom) ✨
