DAMSON IDRIS - IDENTITY DISCOVERED! Sometimes its clear from the very beginning. I am a huge fan of Femi Ogun’s IDENTITY SCHOOL OF ACTING which he founded in London to deal with a lack of diversity on the UK’s stages and screens. After many years of waiting, this award-winning school that brought us the likes of Damson Idris is finally opening its doors in Los Angeles - now accepting applications for their first term, beginning this fall! To help spread the word I edited promo videos featuring four of my favorite IDSA discoveries. Please share this and the other vids and spread the word to any aspiring actors you know. I’ve observed, supported and appreciated IDSA for over 7 years now and I can say without hesitation that Identity is some of the most nurturing soil an actor can plant their gifts in. Here’s another handful of the TuTchT movie posters I hooked up last month featuring 5 brilliant actors of my IDENTITY family. All five are alums of the Identity School of Acting (London & the newly launched LA Branch) and are repped by Identity Agency Group. Femi Oguns (parents immigrated to the UK from Nigeria) founded the Identity School of Acting in 2003 for black and ethnic minority (BAME) talent. His students are hot commodities among theaters and Hollywood. The Identity Agency Group has an LA division, which works with Hollywood power brokers (like WME and ICM) to put “black British actors in leading Hollywood productions”.

Reparations: “Oguns, who employs 40 people in Identity’s east London offices, charges ‘reparations’ – in terms of higher fees – to producers who want access to his talent now but refused to consider black actors in the past. ‘Trust me, when you do end up recognising what is here, I’m going to charge you even more money to compensate for all the time you’ve already wasted,’ he says. ‘You will end up paying more to hire our actors to compensate them all for the time you’ve wasted.’”

Oguns: “We have always encouraged the students to see that they are the architects of their own fortune. They have to have that work ethic.”

2020 - THE WINTER THAT STAYED . I've got mad love for this brother, UK Actor MALACHI KIRBY with his chill exterior & purpose-fired interior! One of the best actors/best humans I've ever come across. Can’t say enough about this guy (plus I need room for all the creds below.) A longtime pillar in London's state and screen acting community, Malachi made his US debut in 2016 with a brilliant, soul-wrenching, criticially-lauded performance as Kunte Kinte in the ROOTS miniseries, Since then, his UK-based career Highlights have been: a critically acclaimed stage performance in London’s West End, a starring role in a disturbing episode of Black Mirror, and a lead in last year’s high octane street race drama series "Curfew." His new series with Patrick Dempsey, DEVILS, an Italian spy thriller set in the international investment banking world, dropped in Italian & UK markets last month (coming soon to the USA.) Mr. Kirby has also impressively stepped into the playwright role with his world premiere gritty urban joint, “Level Up” set to open in London’s famed West End. (currently Covid-delayed along with all West End shows.) . But this brother never rests on his props. 2021 will bring us his recently completed pressure-cooker-f-a-film "Boiling Point," set in a restaurant kitchen, He's currently filming a new miniseries written and directed by “12 Years a Slave” helmer Steve McQueen. This @bbcone series, “Small Axe” is set in London’s West Indian community in the 80s and pairs Malachi, for the first time, with his fellow @Identitydrama_ classmates & fellow superstars @JohnBoyega & @Letitiawright. . Here’s another half-dozen poster re-workings recently completed for my Identity family. (These are for various promo purposes… I liked the idea of showing a filmography IMDB style, with thumbnail posters… but I felt the posters should prominently feature the actor…which wasn’t always the case… so time for some TuTchTing.) Five Identity superstars have been my initial focus: Letitia Wright, John Boyega, Malachi Kirby, Damson Idris and Melanie Liburd. - If you’re wondering, sometimes my adjustments are very minimal, sometimes major, but mostly in the middle somewhere. My favorite of these is “Snowfall” - LOVE this artwork! All I did was resize & change some text. . I remember back when I used to shout about the jaw-dropping talents of my favorite young Brit actors like John Boyega and Malachi Kirby who were virtually unknown here in the States. How dope is it that I don’t have to say anything more than the name now? My fellow Americans finally know. In fact, the entire intergalactic population of the Universe knows. John has a string of much-buzzed-about projects coming our way soon. Next month’s “Detroit” promises to be as lit as it is timely. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” written and directed by one of my favorite Neo-Noir screenwriters, Rian Johnson, drops on Dec 15, and “Pacific Rim: Uprising” in which he stars AND produces, will follow in 2018. THE WOMEN OF IDENTITY - CAILEE SPAENY & LETITIA WRIGHT Big Ups to these brilliant young actors for landing on Variety’s prestigious “Top Ten Actors to Watch” list. Both are part of the Identity Agency Group family, and both have honed their craft at the Identity School of Acting. Ms. Wright is also a patron of the new Los Angeles branch of Identity School of Acting. And trust, Variety folk, we are DEFINITELY watching!!! Letitia absolutely floored the world this past year as “Siri” in two of the biggest movies in cinema history “Black Panther” and “Avengers Infinity War.” In the break before the much-anticipated Black Panther sequel goes into production she is following a pattern set by many of her Identity family, namely keeping her acting chops in tip-top shape by returning to the stage.
