son of neptune is also funny because the characters have no significant issue with each other. every other previous mainline book involves some kind of tense dynamic with the questing characters. in tlt it's percy and annabeth. in som annabeth hates tyson and percy is defensive of him whilst trying to swallow the fact that he's embarrassed to have a monster for a brother. in ttc percy and thalia and zoë are all fighting with each other constantly. in botl percy is back to childish quarreling with annabeth over the luke/rachel stuff + grover is scared of tyson + annabeth is intensely antagonistic towards rachel. and in tlo percy and annabeth are bickering again + percy strangles nico for lying to him. even jason and piper (though jason is still immediately jumping off a cliff to save her whilst unaware that he can fly) have instant tension in their dynamic that runs through the veins of tlh and beyond + leo struggles with feeling like a third wheel + piper is worried about betraying them for her father and that impacts the way she interacts with them
and then son of neptune rolls around and percy is immediately just like Wow you two are just awesome. I know we just met but we're besties now. and frank and hazel both already like + know each other and they immediately stick their necks out for percy and like him. like this has never happened in any other book before. they don't clash with each other At All. they have uncomplicated affection for each other in all directions of their trio and that kindness and affection is the soul of son of neptune. they are just so so friendly to one another and the only source of awkwardness among the main characters is frank's crush on hazel since the start of the book, a crush that barely even results in any real tension or conflict because they're still best friends from the jump and hazel likes him too, she's just a lot less willing to do anything about it because she hates herself and thinks gonna die by the end of the week
#some would say that this makes son a boring book and I'm never going to tell someone they're wrong for finding something#boring because that's 100% a personal taste thing. but imo the extreme degree of internal conflict#that all three characters have makes up for it. percy has never been angstier. hazel is convinced she only has a few days left to live#+ has the most tragic backstory in the franchise. frank is convinced of his own uselessness and has no goddamn#idea how he's going to LEAD a quest when he literally just got to camp jupiter and his mom JUST died and then his grandma dies too#everyone is so so depressed. they really love each other through it tho. I think that's neat#baye.txt#pjo#hazel levesque#frank zhang#percy jackson#son of neptune#heroes of olympus

Overview of the things I've decided are canon for my son of zeus au so far (hopefully I don't forget any):
The gods are dicks. They arent *always* dicks, but I don't want to sugarcoat them from their original myths, they do bad shit and often
Denki is favored by Apollo, Dionysus, and Hermes the most, Persephone also likes him pretty well
Zeus is Zeus, meaning who knows when he'll decide he loves his son or hates his son or just genuinely doesn't care, he's such a little hypocrite bitch ain't he
Quirks are the exact same as they are in canon, the presence of the Greek gods didn't affect that at all, the gods have nothing to do with quirks and while they still are probably banging like rabbits they aren't really that active in Japan so no, no one else at UA is a demigod
Zeus slept with Kaminari's mom because he was intrigued by a mortal with a power in his domain (electricity) that didn't come from him
Since Kaminari's powers come from both his quirk and his dad, there's some complexities to them
Kamimari was born with lightning powers but they worked differently before his quirk actually manifested (I'm toying with the idea that his quirk manifested while being smiled by Zeus with lightning? I haven't decided if I like that or not yet)
Kaminari doesn't want other people knowing he's a demigod for classic hero story reasons but also because 1. Greek gods being real is a secret and he ain't about to be the one that spilled it 2. It'd be really complicated and annoying to explain and let's be real, at least one person would come out of that thinking he went crazy
Athena doesn't like him because, well, dunceface, duh. She does appreciate his strategic abilities though
Ares also doesn't like him because he doesn't like killing people, Ares and Athena hate that they dislike the same kid so much that they'd consider changing their tune about him on just that alone
In junior high he went on a big quest, I haven't decided on any details of it, but it involved a lot of fighting way to strong people while way too young as most quests do, this is also how he got into Apollo, Hermes, Dio, and Persephone's (and by extention Hades since he loves Persephone enough to deal with anyone she likes) good graces, the quest was likely given by Zeus and likely involved Hera trying to kill him
He's not really surrounded by people in the ancient greek community, it's not like he has a camp half blood and even if he did he'd skip it to go to UA training anyway, but he is pretty well known in those circles post big quest
I'm toying with the idea that he failed his first quest and thus had to go on a redemption quest
Kaminari doesn't like being serious, but despite what his classmates and teachers think, he CAN do serious, how else would he be such a big shot in the Greek community?
Imma be real, there was probably some kind of war that Kaminari had to lead an army in or something. I'm sorry, child soldier stories just have so many layers to dissect it's not my fault that they're compelling in a way
My point is, serious Kaminari is like war general levels serious, but not even LOA attacks are bad enough to bring out serious kaminari, are you kidding, did you gloss over the part about god war? He's having a little trouble taking literally any threat at UA seriously and he'll have trouble taking almost every threat as a pro hero seriously, it's not his fault junior high set the bar way too high on what situations are serious!
One of Kaminari's demigod powers, as the son of Zeus, is that he can't take fall damage. No matter how high up he falls from, he will never ever get worse than a few scrapes
Pissing him off really badly makes the sky get stormy, I'm talking immediate clear skies to nothing but gray clouds moving in and you can't even SEE the sky anymore, also possibly rain, he doesn't do it often but he can and he'd probably be able to control it if he were to practice his demigod powers along with his quirk but we all know he ain't gonna do that any time soon
He can sword fight, he hopes this never comes up
He has to keep reminding Dionysus about the legal drinking age, Dionysus thinks it's stupid and therefore never listens, they have argued about it multiple times
Apollo and Kaminari play chess together on occasion
Hermes at one point gave Kami a special knife when he decided he liked him enough to give him a gift, it's a magic thief's blade which is just a dagger that cannot be found on his person no matter what you do. Pat him down? You won't feel it. Scan him? It didn't show. Metal detector? It didn't beep at all. But he can pull it out whenever. He won't but he does *have* it just in case. I'm also deciding if making it not be able to leave him would be too much. I don't want it to feel like a riptide ripoff, I'm thinking maybe it sprouts wings and flies to him?
Yes, I've just decided, the Thief's Knife will fly to him if left behind and can squeeze into any crack no matter how small to get to him
I'm shinkami trash so you KNOW shinkami is about to be canon in this au
In either 2A or 3A, Kaminari tells Shinsou his secret about the gods being real and him being Zeus' son, he spends a great amount of time explaining all the details to Shin and answering his questions, it's a lot
What can I say? Shinsou is gus confidant, he was gonna have to tell him at some point đ€·đ»ââïžđ
He doesnt tell anyone else, but obv they've got to eventually find out somehow, what you think I'd just let it be lame?? Even after they find out, he won't tell them anything he doesn't have to, waits until it comes up to explain things, it's just too complicated he doesn't want to go through all that AGAIN and with twenty people this time
Oh and before you ask, I'm gonna say no on the flying thing. I know it could be a power of a Zeus kid, I know it could be cool, but no. No he cannot fly.
I can't think of anything else right now but I can't wait to wake up in a cold sweat tonight and realise what i forgot
Also, I'm gonna go ahead and tag @iys-cloud since I know iys really likes this au :]

bg3 playthrough thoughts!! i'm still basically just doing sidequests, but they've been interesting and it feels like a lot of important stuff has happened even if it isn't part of the main story.
i... ran into gortash's parents at the cobbler shop while wandering around? i had no idea that would happen. i also got an option to use illithid powers on the mother, but did not do it because my tav is someone who has been adamantly refusing to use the powers this entire time. may have to keep that in mind for another playthrough!
OMG I FOUND THE INSTRUMENT STORE!! got excited about that because elenion lost their lyre when they got taken by mind flayers and they've been trying to find a new one this entire time. i'm still annoyed that volo didn't stock one even though he stocked like every other instrument. also omg if you're a bard you get special dialogue with the shopkeeper!
i brought both karlach and shadowheart to the graveyard, specifically because i knew in advance that they had things they'd comment on if you did. so i got to see karlach speak to her parents. :( i also put some flowers outside their graves, and a night orchid at the grave of the guy shadowheart mourned for.
YESSSS THE PARTY HIT LEVEL 11. after suddenly getting attacked by a bunch of sahuagin on the beach lol but i'm not complaining! i can't wait to use otto's irresistible dance in every battle from now on.
...i had used up a lot of spell slots and such from various quests so i went to take a long rest. and it was nice to finally rest, except for the fact that lae'zel got kidnapped! i actually knew that someone was going to get kidnapped, but i didn't know when it would happen and i don't know how the game determines who it is either--though, storywise, for my tav, i really like that it ended up being lae'zel. also, orin made it look like lae'zel was trying to kill yenna, and now i wonder what would've happened if someone else had been taken instead?
it's a good thing saving orin's victim isn't time sensitive LOL because i have sooo much stuff left. and storywise it feels wrong to be going around completing a bunch of random sidequests and helping out the rest of the companions while lae'zel is in trouble, but in terms of gameplay it feels like dealing with orin and gortash should be some of the last things you do! so i'm just going to say we need to take our time to come up with a plan and lae'zel is strong enough to handle herself until we get there.
looking for minsc now--i know i said before that i wasn't very attached to jaheira, but she gets better the more i see of her LMAO. i mean, she approves of being sarcastic with nine-fingers and saying "just exploring the local sewer life" when asked what you're doing in the guildhall! maybe on my next playthrough i'll try to use her a bit more.
i'm sure there was a more reasonable and normal way to get past the vault puzzle than by literally throwing water all over the buttons and short circuiting the contraption with lightning magic. but would a reasonable and normal method have been as FUN as short circuiting the contraption? i doubt it.
MAN i wish there was a way to speed up the combat specifically when it's the enemy's turn, at least. fights with a large number of characters involved, like this one i just did at the counting house, can just get painful to sit through when it isn't my party's turn to move. especially since with this particular battle i messed up and got party wiped once and there's a lot of enemies AND a lot of bank employees helping out MISSING EVERY ATTACK and it's just ajksgshgdh. i'm so glad to be done with that now.
got jumpscared by astarion's siblings appearing at camp! after that i tried to continue the mystic carrion quest (which i started as part of the free the artist quest) and realized it was leading me down the sewers, which is also where we need to be to find minsc, so to the sewers we go. i found a woman there who had been lured by a vampire--wonder if astarion would've had any reaction to that if we brought him along.
i now have the single most important companion of them all--boo! okay, and minsc is here too. i talked to him a bit back at camp and he's really funny, actually. now i actually wanna try using him a bit and seeing if he has any funny reactions to things around the city.
also, i finished the free the artist quest and oh my god it was unbelievably annoying just to navigate the house. and the massive detour you have to take to deal with mystic carrion... well, that was actually interesting, but was it all worth the reward you get in the end? nope! maybe in the future my characters won't stumble across the zhentarim hideout and just won't know oskar exists...

Buckle up kids I finally finished this book. Thoughts/Review below:
First things first, I have definitely read this book before. I remembered approximately nothing past the characters being named Jason, Leo, and Piper, and that they flew on a metal dragon for their quest. I did not remember Festus dying (rip). I did know the like "Jason is Roman" and "Percy is at the Roman Camp" twists, but I suspect now that it's been out for more than a decade (!!!) that's relatively common.
I like Jason. He's funny, and so totally confused but still like competent and naturally himself. I think there's a commentary there about what makes you you--you see the "your experiences make you who you are," and in a lot of ways that translates to your memories make you you, and Rick's answer to that here is that you are inherently yourself. You will always be you, and you were always going to be you. I think that's reassuring for Jason. I think maybe it is for me as well.
Leo I like, with a single caveat: I was very quickly over the "wow a girl I'm in love with her." I think he's (also) funny and intelligent and dedicated, and I think that his character was complex enough with his past and his natural abilities and grappling with his insecurities. I think maybe what would have saved me in the pretty girl department is if he hadn't seemed so sure they were into him too? Like he was absolutely convinced he was useless and nobody wanted him around until he saw a girl and then obviously they liked him??? Idk but he was probably my favorite character the first time I read it and I still enjoyed him this time.
Piper I liked, mostly. I think she's got a few unnecessary "not like other girl"-isms, but also I don't feel like we saw enough of her past/life growing up to really judge whether that's her or not. Like, growing up in Hollywood, surrounded by beautiful, accomplished people and never getting the attention you, as a child, need? I can see where that would develop into severe "not like other girls," I guess. I think she's also quite smart and I think she's developing a strong perception that, as she's further introduced to the world she's now inhabiting, will only grow. Idk maybe I just wanted to like her, as the only girl.
Hera, fuck her. Thanks. Even when they're saving her life, she's the worst.
I really enjoyed getting to see Thalia, but I wish they'd gotten to see her more. I want to see ways that she has developed since ttc, and her relationship with Jason develop, and Annabeth as well. I don't know. I guess I didn't like her as much in ttc as a lot of other people, I think, and I'd like to see more of her to understand her better, I think.
Their quest was interesting, but very dramatic. They should definitely have had like one more day in the middle??? The timeline just doesn't quite work for me I guess. But I suppose they don't get to choose that. I thought it was interesting, the different gods and monsters and mythological figures they met. I feel like Rick just tossed these guys into it in a way he didn't with Percy, which is maybe because Percy was 12 but also I think in part because of the readers and how long he's been in this world too.
I wish we'd seen more of Camp Half-Blood, too. Like, why are there so many kids there for the winter solstice??? It sounds like the cabins are full but I always felt in pjo that most campers were not year-round?? And it's crazy to me that Piper and Leo became head counselors immediately, esp since they literally only just got there, spent most of their time in the Greek world outside of camp, and are about to have to go on an international quest??? I love them but they need more context/stability to lead their cabins. I get that Drew sucked. I get that Jake doesn't want to be cabin leader. I still think at the very least they should be co-counseling. I have too much summer camp experience to feel like tossing them in like that is a good idea.
I have not yet started Son of Neptune--I am hoping to get to it in May but we will see. I missed Percy and Annabeth in this book. But I think I'll miss Camp Half-Blood in the next one. I can imagine they must have been very interesting for Rick to write, as a project--exploring different views of the world, different characters.
I do not expect to be able to read the following books until the fall, so I don't know exactly how to timeline that reading so I remember what happened lol
Good (bad?) news for all of you I went to a second hand store recently and look what I found

Jason and Juno
I just want to talk about them. I have so many feelings and I canât find anyone else that cares about them. But, like, why not?
Because Rick ignored Jason in HoO and I still havenât got my Roman prequels, thatâs why.
I freaking love Jason anyway and I always have. And I admit, reading original PJO, I wasnât the biggest fan of Hera, but we werenât really supposed to be I donât think. But Juno? Nah man, Juno is cool.
Everybody seems to write her off because sheâs Hera and we all know Hera sucks, and obviously Percy and Annabeth donât like Hera so makes sense that we kinda subconsciously take their lead. But Juno is cool - and I will absolutely fight that corner forever. Itâs like, Ares was kinda a dick in many regards, but Mars was a good dad to Frank, Mars was cool too.
Juno was one of the only gods interested in actively helping demigods, particularly her favoured ones, sure, but she still tried to help. And she obviously cared about them too. Not just Jason, it was very evident she liked Leo a lot too (and I love that too). And we know - at least from ToA - that she had a soft spot for Frank too (and honestly who can blame her).
But yeah, so I actually dig Juno in HoO. She helped out, she was awesome, she was actively nice at least to Jason.
So thatâs the first thing to get over. Hate Hera if you want to - but let me convince you that Juno is better. Re-read the books and look for her being nice and cool. Because itâs there.
On top of that though, the relationship between Juno and Jason just makes me so happy and warm. I love it so much, even though I havenât seen anyone else that seems to care.
Jupiter was at least as much of a dick as Zeus was - thatâs something everyone agrees on I think. And I think a lot of us if not everyone can agree that he was a worse dad to Jason than he was to Thalia. And maybe thatâs because he washed his hands of responsibility for him after he gifted Jason to Juno. (Dick move btw.) but either way, he basically ignored Jason his entire life and throughout HoO. He was hands down one of the most distant godly parents of the seven and of a lot of main heroes weâve followed in the seriesâ. So Jason couldnât really depend on him for help or guidance an awful lot and basically felt like he didnât have a father. But at least he had Juno.
Juno was a good patron to him. She helped him where she could. She actively and genuinely cared about him. She tried to make herself available for chats when he needed them as much as she could. Gave him presents (his gladius) and praise when he did well, pep talks for what was ahead. As pseudo foster mothers go, she really wasnât bad. Closest thing Jason had to a parent, and yeah, he couldâve had worse. He did have worse with his alcoholic slightly off the rails actual mother who gave him away, and had worse in a dad who never spoke to him or saw him or lifted a finger to help him until the very last second and who also gave him away. I kinda gotta figure after that kind of treatment from both your actual parents, getting what he got from his patron was probably very appreciated.
And Juno/Hera is the goddess of marriage and family among other things. Throughout the series itâs pretty much her biggest hang up. And obviously she wasnât always the best mother (poor Hephaestus) to her actual kids, but she kinda held Olympus together. Stopped them all tearing each other apart. Family was important to her and something she valued. Obviously she hated when her husband cheated on her and had someone elseâs kids. Honestly? Thatâs pretty reasonable to be unhappy about. But she watched the rest of her family, literally forever, having kids willy nilly when they wanted to. Obviously Artemis didnât, but she didnât want kids and she had the hunters so thatâs fine. For someone that loves family so much, itâs very possible she couldâve been a little envious of everyone else having huge families. She still had her Olympian family, but maybe she wouldâve liked to have some demigods of her own, if it didnât involve cheating which she just wonât do. She favoured original Jason and was his patron too, so she was happy enough to adopt them, but it still wasnât something she did often. So she didnât get a lot of mortal kids and mightâve felt like she was missing out. But at least she had Jason.
So, being given another little adopted demigod, hell yeah she probably loved mothering him. He was totally her kid. He didnât have any parent or family to be there for him, she didnât have any demigod kids of her own and knew she never will. Thatâs hella cute that they can adopt each other.
Everyone loves found families lately - well this is basically that. Kinda forced at first but doesnât mean they wouldnât grow to love each other. They helped each other, could depend on each other. Juno is literally the patron of Rome as well. So even if Jason hadnât known from the off that heâd been given to Juno, heâd have still had the sense that she had his back along with the rest of Rome, so he mightâve asked for a little help or guidance before HoO, maybe while he was Praetor too. And Juno being New Romeâs patron wouldâve probably kept an eye over Camp Jupiter and especially when Jason rose to Praetor she couldâve been paying more attention to him from then. Watched out for him during the Titan War.
I want to know more about them. Especially if Jason was fully aware that she was his patron the whole time before HoO. I want them to have had some sort of relationship. I want them to like each other at least a little. Nico and Hades got closer eventually. Percy and Poseidon (and honestly a bunch of the gods) got on well. Mars adored Frank. Aphrodite seems pretty cuddly with her kids in general. I donât think itâd be a terrible stretch for Juno and Jason to have each otherâs backs.
I want to know if Jason ever made offerings for her along with Jupiter. Burnt food at CHB for her as well as his dad.
I want to know if Juno ever helped him out on earlier quests at all, whether he knew it or not. If she ever gave him and maybe Reyna too, sort of a Praetor deal, counsel.
I want to see Juno fully lean into having Jason as her favourite, as her chosen hero. I want to see her lend some power to him when he needs it. I want to see Jason with the Blessing of Juno. How many demigods wouldâve ever gotten that? Thatâs unheard of. I want it for him. I want to see him marching on Mount Othrys to take down Krios and topple the throne, not with the blessing of Jupiter (although I would also love to see him with that, that would be so cool!) but with the blessing of Juno, patron of Rome. I wanna see him monologuing Krios into intimidation like he did to the giants: I'm the son of Jupiter, I'm a child of Rome, consul to demigods, praetor of the First Legion. I slew the Trojan sea monster, I have the blessing of Juno: Patron of Rome. And she also happens to be my stepmom, dick.
I talked about it in another post before, him getting her blessing. Supposedly with her Roman counterpart sheâs supposed to be militaristic, strategic, etc. A blessing from his dad would be like an explosion of power, donât get me wrong. Itâd be like Thor in Infinity War. Magnificent. He could totally burst into the palace and fry Krios and destroy the throne. But I think itâd also be pretty damn awesome if he got zapped with her blessing and became like the ultimate military leader (kind of like Frank with Marsâ blessing I suppose, but more strategic instead of hitting the protein shakes), leading the troops in the invasion and being a total Praetor before he even became Praetor.
Side note: Itâs probably not possible but can you imagine if he got blessings from both of them?? I doubt you can have two at a time, but that would be spectacular if he did. Especially from Jupiter and Juno. He would be incredibly powerful, no wonder the Legion made a big deal out of him in the early part of the series. Always was a little disappointed we never got to see cool Roman Jason. I love Jason, I do, but he wasnât exactly what we heard about in The Lost Hero and Son of Neptune. It never felt like we saw his full potential. So Iâm just gonna sit in my corner and dream it up instead lol.
Anyway, this was purely for me because I have a lot of feelings about these two and I couldnât find anything about them at all or not anything positive. But if anyone else likes them or has ideas or there is stuff you can point me to, please do, I want to get involved in it and find people that are into this so bad!

The more I reread the PJO series, the more clear it is to me that Annabeth isnât white.
(I know yâall are going to be in my mentions like âoh but she has blonde hair and grey eyes she canât be black or brownâ and I KNOW! I know RR saw her as a white girl when he was writing the books. I am aware of that fact. It just so happens that I can see a ton of my own experiences (specifically related to being a brown woman) in the way sheâs perceived by other characters.)
So, like, in the first book, she was so mad at Percy because he got a quest even though he knew particularly nothing about the demigod world (and everything he did know was stuff she taught him) and she had been working basically her whole life to get one. I mean, seriously, she was more equipped to lead a quest because sheâd literally lived on streets before. (And I know they banned quests after Lukeâs and it was a special circumstance so they had to give one to Percy but itâs so clear that he has no idea whatâs going on and that he agrees to bring Annabeth along because he knows heâll need her intelligence and expertise to complete the quest).
And, like, she is literally the most educated, knowledgeable person on the Argo II, ffs sheâs LITERALLY the daughter of Athena, but her intelligence is constantly questioned. (And I know itâs because RR was like âoh itâs because sheâs blondeâ đ Istg, Iâm going to strangle that man in his sleep). But, who is the most educated demographic in the US and are still constantly overlooked and their intelligence insulted? Black women. I justâRICHARD, IT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU IM GOING TO SCREAM!
The other characters see her as this strong, tough warrior, but she literally cries in every book. Thatâs not to say sheâs not strong or tough or a warrior, but she is also soft and gentle and thatâs extremely overlooked by not just the characters, but the fandom as well. ïżŒThe way she holds Percyâs hand in times when heâs stressed out and assures him when heâs feeling like he canât do something. The way she comforts characters who are in emotional pain like Juniper and Silena. When Piper first got to camp and Annabeth showed her around and tried to make her feel at home. Even when Drew was being mean to Piper, Annabeth didnât take sides and instead mitigated the tension. She cheered Hazel up after her fight with Jason. Frank came to her for advice and she was very considerate of his feelings and comfort. She was intuitive enough to figure out why Leo acted the way he did and than she defended his actions to Frank. These are all things that she does that are vulnerable and show her heart but most of the characters still view her as scary and intimidating.
And they see Annabeth as strong enough to just handle emotional turmoil all by herself. Like, yâall remember when Percy was kind of surprised that Annabeth needed a hug in BOTL? (Why? Heâs seen her cry before. Heâs seen her need comfort before. What makes him think it would be a one time thing?). Or when he didnât tell her that he was worried about her? (He really said âstay here and protect Nico and Rachelâ. And then in his head he was like, âI didnât tell Annabeth but I was worried about her too.â MY GUY?? WHY WOULDNâT YOU TELL HER??) Or how about when she was literally sobbing on the ground after seeing Luke turn into Kronos and Percy, Rachel, and Nico were just ⊠standing around, talking. Percy literally tried to pick a fight with her in that moment. Like, wtf was that?? (I mean, he tried to be a little bit more gentle with her when he was telling her to get up and leave but at that point, the damage is done, dude, youâve already kicked her while she was down).
This connects to how sheâs stripped of her femininity. The fact that sheâs canonically good at weaving (a traditionally feminine task) and it seems to be forgotten by all the characters and even the fandom. The fact that she enjoys wearing dresses and makeup and jewelry but Percy finds those things awkward on her (I made a post about that here if yâall want to read it. The Richard stannies found it though so beware the notes). There are so many instances in the books where she so obviously fits into a traditionally feminine role but theyâre glossed over or ignored. As a South Asian woman, I know how this feels.
Okay and then on Circeâs Island, when Circe said something like âoh and that HAIR!â and Annabeth was like âwhatâs wrong with my hair?â âŠ. Thatâs a micro aggression if Iâve ever seen one. I just know if Annabeth was a white girl with type 3, loose ass curls, Circe would not have said that shit.
And all of the reasons we think Percy is not white ALSO APPPLY TO ANNABETH. Like, she went to through all the same stuff that Percy went through in the mortal world. She literally said as much in the beginning of TLT.
Annabeth is just so clearly not white to me. And the fact that RR didnât see how so many of her experiences lined up with a black or brown womanâs will actually be my villain origin story. He really wrote âsheâs oppressed because sheâs blondeâ with his whole chest. Great job in proving how much of a rich, white man you are, Richard.

hi! i was scrolling through tiktok and came across this account which writes original songs, and this might be my hiperfixation with him, but to me they are all about jason, thought you'd like it
https://www.tiktok.com/@eclipseofthemoons?_t=8WQULb8NRwb&_r=1
heyo! i love this actually and you're so right. sorry to subject you to this but i'm gonna jot down my ideas on a bunch of her songs that i can see being about jason. putting it under a readmore cuz this'll get long.
this one is about him dicking around and having flings with random people at edgarton after he gets the prophecy from herophile. he's already decided that if he and piper go on the quest then it'll be him who dies, and he's accepted that it'll be Death with a capital D, so he knows he doesn't have much longer to live and has decided to do a bunch of shit to like make it count or whatever. the "clearly made up crime" mentioned is actually jason continuing to live after the first prophecy (both the "[person] or jason is gonna die" prophecies were actually just to make sure jason would end up dead quick). the crime is made up because it literally isn't against the rules that he continues to live, like either he or leo had to die and leo did that so jason should be able to head off totally fine. jason recognises that it's stupid as hell that they're just making shit up about how it's against the dumb ass rules for him to live when it shouldn't be but he's accepted it and is now just deciding to mess around. the last line of "when my body and my innocence aren't mine" conjures a specific idea for me but it's probably too dark for me to share anywhere so i'll just say it's about how he sacrificed his body and his childhood to the legion through the years he was there
this one is about the bitterness he feels towards his time spent as centurion then as praetor at camp jupiter being him being a tool for the gods for most of his life. "i created those around me" is about him training the newer members of his cohort. "playing god is funny til you have to choose who's dying first" is about how he used to use his power as a way to generally fuck around with people (like jokingly saying he'd punish someone for very light things) or improve the legion (like establishing better ways to handle younger campers or the whole changing the name to the first legion to represent a new start for rome) but eventually he has to lead his cohort and the legion into battle and send people off to do things that would likely lead to their deaths. "our bodies were the vehicle, transporters of the soul" is about how demigods are treated like pawns to assist in the plans of the gods. "i was young and bold and stupid in a six foot, self dug hole" is jason reflecting on how he used to throw his life away to carry out the wishes of the gods. "was i the only one to question anything at all? i guess i was, that's my bad. i'll answer to her call" i like to think that jason started questioning if a life serving the gods was worth the sacrifices he makes the instant he had to send someone off to what would probably be their doom. he starts asking if it's really a fair life if it's spent serving beings who don't care about you. juno doesn't really like that he's thinking things like that so she snatches up any memories of that when she sends him off to camp half blood. "my immortal evolutionary traits are still intact. i am unapologetic for the sympathy i lacked" is him p much saying he's got the powers of the gods and he's not afraid to use them if the gods try to take him down. unfortunately this is kind of overshadowed by the next lines which are "i left my body back in california cuz i'm weak" which i decided is basically him leaving the life he could've led back at the park his mother left him at, and "overdosed on phenobarbital, it's part of my mystique" with phenobarbital being used for seizures which can be caused by flashing lights which can be replicated with something like idk lightning which jason summons quite often. epileptic jason is real to me
THIS ONE OH MY GOD I AM BARKING AT MY SCREEN AND SCREAMING INTO A TUPPERWARE. it's about jason having his powers taken from him after the whole "calling zeus unwise" thing. he was probably getting someone out of a dangerous situation by jumping from something high, like a tall building or a cliff, when suddenly he figured out that oh shit he can't fly anymore. "did anybody listen? did anybody care?" is him questioning why nobody caught him. i like to think that he was carrying percy at the time and they landed in a body of water and poseidon caught them in it. but like, obviously poseidon wasn't trying to catch jason, jason was just attached to percy at the time so he ended up tagging along for the ride. so jason's wondering like, why did nobody else try to catch him? why did some wind god or another sort of water god that he'd helped, or someone like frank who could fly down not catch him? if not for the fact that it was percy that he was carrying, would he just be dead? all cuz his father took his powers from him for making a valid point? and uhh "i'm praying to a god i don't believe in on a dare" is him 1 losing all respect for zeus because what kind of piece of shit lets their child jump off a building and then takes their power away right when they're going to die? and 2 still praying desperately to zeus and any other god that could possibly save him on the vague hope that they would save him. "i'm not sure what i'm missing, a piece forever gone" is about how his powers (more accurately, the reminder of him being jupiter's son) is such an engrained part of his identity that when its taken away its like there's a piece of him that's just missing and will never be brought back. "i misplaced my mind at sunset" is him calling zeus unwise right after apollo was sent off to be punished later (and also close to the end of summer), "and stole it back by dawn" is him making the choice to go into the fight against caligula knowing he'd die close to the end of apollo's journey (and a bit into spring). (the seasons thing is about the concept of spring being dawn, summer being day, fall being dusk, and winter being night. like seasons corrospond to points in time in a yearly sense rather than a monthly sense). "me and my numerous souls" is the idea of the lives lost in battles jason led haunting him until his own death.
this one actually just has a couple lyrics that are jasoncore but !! funsies. this one's about his relationship with piper and dealing with the end of that while dealing with the prophecy in tbm. "it is simple, it is stupid that i'd rather write than speak, but melodies are easier when we haven't talked in a week. i'm on thin, thin ice, i've lost my way, i'll save it for another day" is him throwing himself into his work to avoid having to talk about him and piper drifting apart. just desperately avoiding that conversation because it's worse to deal with the awkwardness if they break up. "every word i say is just a lie" is about him neglecting to mention what herophile told him in the prophecy, "i'm betting with the gods until i die" is about him. b. betting with the gods until he dies. he's praying and he's trying to get his work on the shrines and such done before he dies (maybe working a bit harder on underworld gods so he doesn't have to worry about them being pissed at him when he gets down there). "i don't feel much but that's my only sin" is aroace jason. sorry bout it he's aroace for this pologies
this one is very priest jason, pretty god jason if you feel it. maybe he's gotten closer to the underworld gods or is the god of judgement (which works awfully well with his father being the god of justice). either that or its him being told all this by the judges when he reaches them. or by the spirits in the long ass line to judgement. or by nico before he even dies!! endless possibilities :)
this one. i literally can't explain it just listen to it. literally just. you understand. just all of it. gifted kid, struggles with english, mentions of storms and lightning bugs and promises. i don't need to explain. jasoncore through and through. especially the "i need more storms that blow you off your feet and carry you away, i need lightning that dances across the sky in graceful fury, i need fields of fireflies floating in the endless skies" bit. obviously cuz yk storms, lightning, but the way they're used seems graceful and calculated rather than angry and irrational and impulsive. this is gonna take a violent jump into anger issues jason but it feels a lot like how jason is expected to be cool and calm and whenever he shows anger everyone tells him to stop because he's supposed to be better.
maybe my hyperfixation on him isn't big enough to connect all of this one to him but the beginning sure as hell fits. also feels pretty leocore? like all of feels leocore. but more importantly jason. anyways "i'm overwhelming, overbearing to distract from the plain fact that i have no personality" and "i'm obnoxious cuz i own no originality" are jason not knowing who he is and throwing himself into anything that can make him seem like a whole person, like for example leaning further into his friendships (more specifically the idea of being the mom friend) than most other people tend to, or being annoyingly enthusiastic about anything he's interested in. like he's exaggerating any part of himself that he's certain of in the hopes that he'll convince everyone he's an entire interesting person. "i'm just copying whoever seems to be doing well" is self explanatory, he's mimicking everyone cuz he doesn't think he can do fine if he just Is what he is without any input from other people.
this one is hoooooh. again it's just a few lyrics but hwow is it banger shit. "the antagonistic arguments that line my unpaid debts is a pressure i can't withstand" is about how he feels like he owes something great because he's a jupiter kid at a camp that's named after his father and titled something that legitimately applies to him (fulminata, armed with lightning) and how everyone pressures him to be better than others cuz of it. and yk. anger issues jason. he feels like he's being antagonised. "showing pain is childish when i cry" is about jason being expected not to feel sadness or pain or anything and how he learned to crush that down and not cry and so he considers himself crying to be childish because the last time he cried was when he was a little kid who missed his family and the wolves and was overwhelmed from the new surroundings he was thrown into. "i'm praying to a god that's just a lie" isn't jason believing that the gods aren't real but rather that praying to them for things is pointless because they'll never listen. "i'm drinking down a tin of pastel paint cuz neon colours make me want to faint" can be many things. examples examples uhh autistic jason. like neon colours are just too damn bright for him and can overstimulate him vv easily and pastels are just easier for him to take in. or it could be a metaphor for demigod life being too much for him (represented by neons because chb has bright ass orange and camp jupiter has not really a neon purple but it's certainly not very pastel) and him heading out into the mortal world which is like less harsh and contrasted and more just blank and light. less heavy.
i didn't get to all of them cuz it would take me like a week to write all of it (this took me like an entire 24 hours hshs) and would be SO long (this is 2133 words rn it'd be so fuckin long if i kept going) but you're so right and am now obsessed with her music. thanks for sharing!
#jason grace#pjo#hoo#allfatherly guidance#answered prayers#â thanks for giving me the chance to use that tag btw i don't get to use it often

So, I think there may be some more complicated stuff here re: Chiron going/not going in TTC. This may get a little hair-splitty, but hey, this is literature, so I'm gonna call it "close reading".
In the passage in question in TTc, Chiron says "volunteered", not "joined" or something else similar that implies finality. "Volunteered" here implies- at least to me, and I may be off-base here- that he'd have to go to some sort of higher authority (Olympus itself probably) to get special dispensation to go. They'd likely give it to him if he asked- a goddess was missing, after all. But it's not a done deal per se. The gods have rules about quests- they make that very clear throughout the books. So, Chiron at least would have to play the game to go and not doom the entire quest. How that would have played out in practice, I don't know.
A possible outcome of the gods acquiescing to his request to go might have been the suspension of his immortality. It's conditional upon his fulfillment of his duty to train heroes, right? SoM basically said as much when it was like "yeah, the Camp's borders have like two weeks and those are probably gonna go before Chiron's immortality is challenged" (second half being implied when he's, like, "you got other things to worry about" to Annabeth + Percy).
Speaking of SoM...was it not just the previous where Chiron was exiled from camp and things went to absolute Tartarus in a handbasket?? Leaving Mr. D in charge of a camp he hates (TTC makes it abundantly clear that he cannot stand heroes, save for his own kids (and later Nico lol)) with an impending war when camp already is losing demigods due to Olympian parental neglect (and probably also monsters) is, how you say, a massively bad idea. Chiron going on the quest would be an incredible risk that could lead to CHB losing their only real adult leader permanently.
In defense of OP, Chiron's reason for wanting to join the quest is kinda selfish. He wants to go save Annabeth, who's like a daughter to him. As far as preventing fatalities go...that's not his primary concern. He wants one of his favorite campers back. Would he consider doing this for each and every one of the campers? Probably not (see: not looking for/reaching out to Chris Rodriguez or any of the other kids defecting to the Titan army...or, y'know, looking for Nico when he up and disappears). Chiron joining the quest would not have been based on his desire to protect demigods as a whole- just one specific one.
Ultimately, Chiron is a lot more complex than I think is overtly addressed in the books. He's been training heroes for millennia. He's experienced immeasurable loss. He has favorites. His duty to demigods - and his ultimate inability to prevent the horrible fates that befall them- is never far from his mind. He's trying to triage while trying to care but not have it eat him alive. (Hell, doctors get compassion fatigue + moral injury after a few years in practice; how much can a medic + trainer take over literal thousands of years). Campers have good reasons to find him lacking, but he did dedicate his life to nurturing them and trying to keep them safe until they can do so for themselves. Something something Greek heroes are never without fatal flaws
Chiron is a villain
Iâve seen a little too much Chiron admiration lately, so let me remind you of something weâre all overlooking here.
In the titanâs curse Chiron says âI almost volunteered for this quest myself. I would have gone, if not for the last line.â By the last line he means the line about someone perishing by their parentâs hand.
Chiron, who has been alive for thousands of years, was too scared to go on this quest because he was afraid he would be killed by his father. So instead he lets A BUNCH OF CHILDREN go, knowing that at least one of them wasnât going to come back alive & he could have taken their place??
Not to mention that right here he reveals that he could have gone on every quest if he wanted to & take the place of a demigod. With every quest he could have saved a child from a lot of dangers by going himself (he probably had a lot higher of a survival chance too given he trained thousands of heroes before), but instead he send 12-year old children in his place?

Fading away. â
Pairing: Jason Grace x Roman!DaughterofPluto!Reader
Sumary: after moths of over working, a colapse makes you get into a coma and reflect on your feelings.
Warnings: coma, angst, Pluto as a caring dad, fluff at the end.
Words: +-3k.
A/N: This is my first Percy Jackson Franchise fanfiction, so take it easy on me. This is also my biggest and favourite one. I hope you like this! My requests are always open.
(Y/N) (L/N) had a good reason to hate Jason Grace. How could she not? Jason was so annoying, self centred, selfish, stubborn and worse of all? He dated Piper McLean. Piper was great, (Y/N) knew that and they seemed happy together. But, still, he chose Piper, not (Y/N), his girlfriend back at Camp Jupiter, who he totally forgot about. How come Percy remembered Annabeth but Jason wouldn't remember (Y/N)? And when he recovered his memory, he chose Piper. But she also loved him still, and seeing him hurt like a bullet going straight through her heart. She decided to spend a year at Half-Blood Camp to stay with her half-brother Nico Di Angelo when Gaea were defeated. She thought she could manage to see him almost every day, but she couldn't. So she started doing anything to get her mind occupied. Going on meaningless quests, travelling to New York randomly, volunteering for literally any service in the camp and barely sleeping â because sleeping meant dreams.
"It doesn't have to be like that, (Y/N)." Her brother gave her another shot of Nectar. The sunlight that entered Hades' cabin was leaving slowly as they talked, (Y/N) leaned on her bed watching her fingertips become solid again.
"I'll learn how to do it right and I promise I won't push myself too much, but I can't stop practicing." She avoided eye contact with Nico, feeling ashamed of herself. After all, she was supposed to be the one taking care of him, since she was older. She came back from a "quest" for her father, that was staying a weekend on the Underworld. She started using Shadow Travel to get there. The problem? She had no idea how hard it was, and she almost died every time. He sighted.
"I'm not talking about Shadow Travel. You should talk to Jason and sort this out. You're almost killing yourself everyday doing the craziest stuff just to keep your mind off him. He already broke up with Piper, what's stopping you now? I'm your brother and it pains me to see you suffering, I won't just sit and watch while you literally desapear." He got up and walked to the door. The (h/c) girl forced a smile so he believed she was fine. Nico left the cabin.
After hours reflecting and thinking, she heard the trumpets that announced the convocation to a game of Capture the Flag. Since she was feeling better, she changed her clothes and walked outside. The teams were: cabins 1, 4, 5, 9, 12, 14, 18, 21, 23, 27, 28, 29 vs. cabins 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 20, 24, 25, 26. They started the game. (Y/N) had to protect the boundary with a kid from Hipnos' cabin while a group attacked the opponent's flag and another protected their territory and their flag. Everything was going as planned, she hadn't seen anyone yet. Out of the sudden, she saw a blond guy running in their direction with a sword. Oh hell no, Jason Grace wouldn't attack her like that. But he did.
"What the hell?!" She screamed, reacting to the blade flying in her direction. Her teammate was asleep. She defended herself with her own sword and counterattacked. He invested against her leg, trying to make her fall. Her instincts took place, she jumped, attacked again and they started a meaningless battle. Jason looked the same as always. He was almost the same Jason that used to take her on cute dates in New Rome. But he fought like a greek. And that was when it hit her, he changed. The mixture of love and hate made her loose her senses for a bit, giving Jason the lead. He focused on her leg but hesitated to hit it, giving her time to get back on the fight. She knocked him to the floor, her foot on his chest and her blade on his neck, when she heard footsteps approaching quickly. Of course. It was a trap. She turned around and saw a son of Hebe holding her team's flag running, followed by two daughters of Hephaestus. She grabbed a knife from her belt and threw it to his leg, hitting exactly where she wanted. She then grabbed Jason's blade and Shadow Travelled. For a moment everything was fine, while she drowned into darkness, but then she couldn't get out. She saw her father's face mixed in the dark. He raised his hand and touched her face, than she was back at the forest. Realising not even a second had gone through, she attacked the â injured â boy and the two gigantic girls at the same time. She wasn't really expecting to defeat them, just trying to win some time so, hopefully, someone would come help her. The boy dropped the flag and got a small sword. The two girls had hammers... oh. The three of them attacked at the same time and she protected herself with Jason's sword, which flew away. She was out of hopes when a figure appeared beside her and started fighting them.
"What are you doing here?! You're not supposed to help me, we're enemies, remember?" She said, fighting Hebe's son.
"I guess you're welcome then." Jason replied smiling, fighting the hammers-girls. (Y/N) sighted in annoyance. Seconds later, her teammates came running from the enemies' territory with a flag and the three-people group surrendered. Everyone started screaming and celebrating. (Y/N)'s head hurt with the noise and she looked to her brother, feeling numb.
"Hey, can we talk?" Jason said, getting in front of her with a big smile. He was proud of himself for helping her? Of course he was. He was going to take all the credit for her team's win. The anger rose inside of her burning everything. She furrowed her eyebrows and with the last energy that remained in her body, she tried to Shadow Travel for the perhaps hundredth time that day.
She fell into the darkness while feeling her body desapear quickly. Her heart was very accelerated but then it stopped. She saw herself at the barks of Lete's river. I'm dead., she thought. The desperation started taking over. She remembered the face of all her friends. Her siblings, Hazel and Nico. Her mother. Her best friend Reyna. Camp Jupiter. New Rome. The Lar Vitellius. Lares? Lares! Maybe she could go back as a ghost! She would at least see her friends again.
"Didn't expect to see you this soon." A voice said with humor. She turned around, as always enlighten by her father's presence. But his face was sad. Not the everyday-sad-Pluto, but the my-daughter-just-died-sad-Pluto.
"Am I d-... dead?" The anxiety forbid her from crying in front of her father. The one she never knew and once she did, she didn't want to disappoint him.
"Yes and no. You see, my darling, there are things more powerful then death. Right now, your physical being is exhausted from travelling through darkness and light â which I told you not to, but we'll talk about this later, you have a decision to make. You're body is surrendering to Death out of hopelessness. But your soul, on the other hand, still fights for the heart beating in your chest. And your conscious, the controller of both body and soul, has to decide which one of them you'll support right now. As Lord of the Death that's all I can say to you. But as your father, I would like to say that we have a room for you in the castle, if you'd like that. And also, I feel obligated to show you what is happening on Earth." When he finished his words, an image formed in the air, sort of an Iris message, but no one saw them. (Y/N) saw herself laying on the grass, surrounded by some campers, Nico and Jason.
She was watching them from above. Jason put two fingers on her neck, trying to feel her pulse. She â the one in the Underworld â gasped as the blond boy whispered 'nothing'. She glanced at her father, who had a pained expression as he stared at Nico freaking out. Her brother had his hands on her chest and was murmuring something in greek. Then, he opened his eyes, filled with tears of desperation, and glanced at Jason, who didn't look any better. She wanted to scream and go back to up there, but her voice wouldn't come out of her throat.
"Half of her is already gone." Nico struggled to say. Everyone around gasped. "I can't Shadow Travel with her, it- it would k-kill the other half..."
"Let's take her to the Infirmary. Everything's gonna be fine. She'll be okay." Will Solace had appeared in the crowd and kneed down to take (Y/N) in the arms, being helped by the other two. As they walked, (Y/N) held herself in her arms, sobbing. She didn't want to die, not like that. The image faded away and Pluto hugged her. He never did that before. She left out all her emotions through the cry. Her father caressed her back and gently kissed the top of her head.
"Now you see, my child, what those on Earth are going through. You have a family up there. And if you'd ask me, Jason Grace is a good person, even being a son of my brother. You have a choice, so make it wisely." Pluto said, not backing away from the hug. She nodded and he immediately knew what her choice was. "You know I'd love to have you here with me, but I'd love even more to see you happy. Don't be reckless. And listen to your brother. You don't have to worry to come see me, I'll make sure to visit you during your recovery." As he said that, a white door appeared out of nowhere. "Here's your carpool." The girl started to walk to the door, when she heard Pluto say: "(Y/N) I lo-... Good luck." She smiled to him and went through into the door. It felt like eons in the nothingness. She felt so much pain all over her body. Then she gained conscience. She didn't knew how long it had passed. She also couldn't open her eyes or say anything, but she knew she was laying down something comfortable, a bed, perhaps. But she could hear perfectly well.
"... and I'm so sorry you had to die for me to gain the courage to say this. Please come back to us... Come back to me. Nico barely leaves this room and nor do I, Will had to force him to go eat. It's not the same without you, (Y/N/N), it really isn't." Jason's words gave her the urge to cry, but she couldn't. It was like her body had shutdown completely. She felt his warm hands on her cold ones and after that, a door was opened. Footsteps. Only one person. Jason didn't move. Someone sat down next to them.
"Dad- I mean, Hades said she will be okay." It was Nico's voice. He sounded extremely tired.
"Didn't he say that last month?" Grace was annoyed, but he didn't stop holding her hand.
"I know, I wish I could do more... I'm... I'm sorry Jason." The blond sighted.
"I should be the one to be saying that. I know there's nothing else to do. I'm sorry for putting the blame on you. It's just- if we've talked before, nothing of this would have happened. If only I was brave enough..." (Y/N) felt weak and her consciousness was back at nothing again. When she heard something again, it looked like a lot of time had passed by, but she wasn't sure at all. Jason's voice was happy as he told her his plans to the future.
"I realised you would like to work with me training the legion. You're obviously skilled and the payment is quite good. And I've heard they are planning to build a village here as well, but I don't know if you-..." Every time she tried to stay conscious, she felt weaker. 'Rest', her father's voice said inside of her head, so she let herself.
Some time...? A long time...? She didn't knew. But the next time she heard, she was way stronger. She waited until then, so she could stay longer and try to understand her emotions. She heard almost an entire day. Her friends entered and left cabin 13 â she found out that she was there. Some of them talked "to" her, some just sat there in silence. When alone, Nico talked a lot about Will Solace. (Y/N) smiled mentally. Then Jason entered. She could already recognise the sound he made walking. He sat beside her bed and held her hand, as usual.
"Hello, princess. You look better." She reunited all the strength she had storage and sent it all to her right hand. She softly squeezed Jason's hand, for a small portion of second, trying to say 'hi'. She felt exhausted. He gasped.
"She just squeezed my hand!" He screamed, laughing. Nico jumped out of his bed, laughing as well. They both stared at her, waiting for more. "You're there, right? I knew you were! It's been long months, but you're getting better. Don't work too hard. We'll see each other soon, don't worry." He kissed her forehead. After that, it was easy for her to let go and dive into her sleep again.
She was slowly getting better. She noticed her comas were smaller now, and she got stronger every time. She started communicating by squeezing people's hand. One time for 'yes' and two times for 'no'. But it still was exhausting. She met with her father a couple times through dreams, but it never lasted long. She was sick of it. She wanted to jump out of the bed and run through all the camp. She was alone with Jason, as he talked about the last time he went to Camp Jupiter, telling every change. She slowly forced herself to open her eyes. It wasn't for too long, just enough for her to see the big smile he had while talking, her favourite blond hair and how he gesticulated while speaking. By that time, her feelings were completely lined. She declined her childishness and stubbornness to accept the fact that she obviously loved him. Her lips were able to form a small smile. He hadn't noticed her yet. I can do this, she thought.
"J." She whispered for the first time in five months. Her eyes were already closed again. He gasped.
"Did you just say J? That's me! I'm here, i'm right here, love. Can you hear me?" She squeezed his hand one time. Yes. He chortled. "You're so strong. I miss you so much." He started softly crying. She squeezed his hand two times. No. Don't cry, she wanted to say. "Alright, 's fine, 's fine. Gods, you're coming back. I bet Aphrodite is watching us closely." He chuckled but suddenly stopped. "I forgot we haven't talked about that yet, i'm sorry. I don't wanna be intrusive, you know. It's just, by what Nico has told me, well, you still liked me." She squeezed two times. "That's... that's great, love. But don't worry about that just yet. You should take some rest now, my love."
Five days. She had woken up every single one of them, but only listening. No squeezes, no talking, no looking. Just storing strength. She knew she was close to fully waking up. She was already able to keep track of the days. It was a Sunday, the day she received the most visits. It should be morning, because she only heard Nico's snorting. She slowly opened her eyes. The same place. Different clothes. She wondered who had changed them. Perhaps Will did. She systematically moved her arms, pushing herself to sit. Her back was laying at wall. She took a deep breath. It was going fine. She wanted to wake Nico up, but she decided to wait to see if she would be able to actually stay awake. About an hour later, Nico woke up by himself. He yawned and turned to her bed. She looked at him with a big smile. He jumped out of bed.
"Holy shit, (Y/N)! You're up! How- Wait! I need to- Wait! Don't fall asleep, I'll be right back!" She blinked slowly to sign 'ok'. He was back moments running later with a bunch of teenagers in pyjamas. They all froze at the door, staring at her. Hazel, Frank, Annabeth, Percy, Jason and even Piper. Hazel was the first one to wake up from the trance. She ran to her sister and hugged (Y/N).
"Ouch." She managed to say, reacting to the tight hug that made her head hurt.
"Right, sorry! I forgot. Wait, you speak!" Hazel answered and laughed. All of the others joined in, amazed by her friend, and started talking, telling everything she had missed. (Y/N) couldn't speed properly, only a few words like 'hi', 'ow', 'miss' and 'food'. Later that day, Will came to check on her. He said everything looked just fine, but that she should rest.
"Hey." Zeus' son said, once they were alone.
"Hi."
"Gods, it's so good to finally hear you again. I've talked to myself for a long time." They giggled softly. (Y/N) wasn't showing any signs of it, but that day had been extremely tiring. Her entire body hurt but she couldn't give up just yet.
"I... heard." She whispered. "A bit." Her eyes tried to close but she opened them wide, fighting her own nature. Jason noticed that.
"Hey, no need to over do it.â He brushed her cheek with his thumb.
"Sleep... here." She begged, placing her hand beside her. He froze for a moment, embarrassed. And then, with a rubor across his face, he sat on the bed beside her. She laid her head on his chest and quickly fell asleep.
âGo to sleep, love. We have all the time in the world.â

Nico and Percy headcanons
(after Nico told Percy he had a crush on him)
Percy realised Nico had moved on after he saw him talking with Will
Percy is the biggest Solangelo shipper
Percy once hit on Will for Nico. After that a skeleton army attacked him and Will had to heal him. Nico secretly was thankful for that.
it still was akward to hang around together so Percy just invited Nico, Will and Annabeth to a game night in the Jackson appartment
the game night thingy became a tradition for them all six of them, Sally and Paul included
They have annual game night every Saturday. Percy typically lets Nico win (Nico doesnât know) but when it comes to chess theyâre both out for blood
they got closer with time and Percy asked Nico to explain Mythomagic
Percy still apologises for Bianca everyday.
Percy has so much guilt from Bianca whenever Nico and Percy go on any type of quest together Percy refuses to let Nico act out a plan without them going over it at least 5 times. Percy would rather kill himself than let Nico take the lead. Nico didnât understand why until Percy said something like âIâm not going through this againâ and they spent two minutes staring at each other in horror
insulting Percy around Nico is asking for death. not even their friends can do it. If Nico even thinks you implied Percy was annoying the ground will start to tremble.
Percyâs contact name for Nico is âThe Baby(TM). Percyâs also one of 3 (Hazel, Sally and Percy) people to have Nicoâs phone number. the others donât even know Nico HAS a phone.
Percyâs room in his apartment is filled with pictures of all his friends and then someone points out the fact that thereâs a picture of Nico on the phone holding up the middle finger at the camera and Percy just doesnât comment on that.
Nico loves coming back to camp after a quest because Will AND Percy are fretting over him but in hilariously different ways. Will is in doctor mode and prescribing shit whilst Percy spends 10 minutes cursing at Nico in Spanish and Italian for being reckless and then giving him a noogie and a slice of pizza.
Percy uses Nicoâs head as an elbow rest, it doesnât even bother Nico any more.
no one (except Hazel, Will, Annabeth and Sally) actually know how close they are. Nico and Jason will be talking and Nico will casually mention how heâs not gonna be able to attend an event because Percy threatened to paint his side of the room yellow if he doesnât show up for fajita Friday and Jasonâs just like â...huh?â
Nico drops by the Jackson apartment so much Percy literally makes a second plate during lunch
Everyone was struggling to get Percy out of bed one morning and no one understand why Hazel turned around and got Nico until Nico ran at the bed and jumped on it and Percy started shrieking with laughter
Nico once made the fatal mistake of cursing in Italian around Percy and Percy leaned over, cuffed him on the ear, and said âPuoi imprecare quando passi oltre 5'6â
they now have a lot of inside jokes no-one not even Hazel gets them
after Estelle was born, Nico became her second older brother. Percy thinks they're an iconic duo.
Every once in a while, they get in a 'fight'. The campers all are shtting their pants because they think Civil War 2 is going to break out and then Nico turns around a slight smile on his face. They pranked the whole camp.
Percy made Leo, Frank and Nico watch all Marvel movies together. Little did Nico know that Leo, Percy and Frank already know them from heart. They kept reciting them until he just fell asleep.
Percy carried him to Cabin 13. He was suprised to see how much it changed in there.
Nico changed the cabin A LOT. He had poloraid pictures of all his loved ones on the wall. These include Hazel, Will, Jason, his mom Sally, Estelle and, to Percy's surprise, Percy.
Percy and Nico trained new campers and one of them was asking Nico stupid questions like "If Percy is the son of Poseidon do yu fight a lot?", "As your the son of Hades can you just snap your fingers and half of the universe dies?". It reminded Percy of smol happy Mythomagic boi Nico.
Nico was a really good trainer. He was nice, annoyed and talented. Percy knew he could leave CHB in Nico's hands and go to New Rome to study because he was the only greek big three kid left. CHB would be safe in his hands
He thought that happy boi may come out from time to time. He was right.
In the Holidays, Percy and Annabeth come back to CHB. Percy planned his proposal to Annabeth. Grover, Piper and Nico helped him. Even Thalia came. Annabeth was suprised of the decoration, Piper and Will did it. But in secret Nico gave them ideas.
For Percabeth's wedding, Nico summoned the dead and made them dance Macarena. Two of them were Magnus and Alex.
Nico never felt more happier and loved in his life. The day right after the wedding, Percy and Will talked. The festivals weren't over.
Will ordered Nico to stay in the infirmary as long as everybody else decorates the WHOLE CAMP. In the infirmary, Will gave Nico something to eat. An apple.
At the begging Nico didn't realise. After a minute he jumped out of the bed screaming, raising the dead and made them dance. He smiled like an idiot before he said "yes".
Will never felt more stressed in his life. When they left the infirmary, Percy was the first to realise the happy smile on both of their faces. It was all Percy's idea (because he knew how much Solangelo loved each other). Will runned to the son of the sea god and hugged him. "Thank u", he whispered.
Days later, Nico asked Percy to be his best man. Yes, Grover was Percy's best man. But that didn't stop Nico. Percy would be his best man and nothing could change that.
THEY ARE BROTHERS.

Sorry about the double ask so here's a fun idea, Emperor Belos wrote The Good Witch Azura books. Like he wrote them in his younger years before becoming a parasitic tyrant. - Pixel Anon
That seems like itâd be the perfect opportunity to segue into a lesson about Death of the Author, which- Given Sense and Insensitivity, and how this show already discusses how fiction affects reality and connects with it⊠Would be VERY refreshing to see, especially as a moral that I donât really see other kidsâ shows exploring! I do recall OK KO bringing it up with the Hero Cards not representing Kappas, but the more the merrier. Itâd also be fitting to discuss Death of the Author, and separating a work from a terrible creator- Given the showâs frequent references to Harry Potter, which has a rather infamous authorâŠ
For neurodivergent kids who really get into hyperfixations and fandoms, which Luz and Amity basically are- Itâd be fascinating to see them navigate this kind of twisted revelation! And itâd also force them to really re-examine The Good Witch Azura, because sometimes a work canâtbe separated from the harmful ideas of its creator, especially if it was made to transmit them⊠If Azura ever talks about dealing with âsavagesâ, thatâd be VERY sus and make matters a lot more complex. But then again, Azura also reconciles with Hecate, so it could be a matter of recognizing a workâs more problematic areas and criticizing them, while still enjoying it.
And, this makes sense, as The Owl House really does convey that experience of engaging with media and fiction, and how it relates to real life⊠And how media and fiction CAN mean a lot to people, itâs perfectly valid for oneâs hyperfixations to mean the world to them! Itâs treated as objectively terrible for Luz to throw away her Azura book, and bar a few social misunderstandings, the Azura books have otherwise brought nothing but happiness for her and Amity, and even functioned as something for them to bond over!
Itâs perfectly okay for fiction to mean a lot to Luz, and sheâs not being childish for wanting to hold on, to keep enjoying it- So itâd be an interesting discussion when Belosâ authorship is thrown into the mix, amidst potential problematic bits here or there. Then again, Luz is an ND-coded kid who continues to find solace in these stories, which would suggest that there isnât anything there that would bother her- At least, nothing sheâd have really noticed until someone pointed it out to her.
Then thereâs the appropriateness, of Belosâ own fantasy being what couldâve led to Luz being deluded in her own right, projecting fantasies and dreams onto reality, wanting to be a chosen one⊠Itâd be an extension of the kind of harmful delusions and ideas he puts into others, tying it back all the way of Luz herself, prior to arriving on the Boiling Isles! Itâd give us insight to Belos as someone who really gets people to believe in the idea of being special, of being chosen, specifically for the Emperorâs Coven⊠And how this could relate to HIS character, if he himself is also a victim of these kinds of issues. If Belos is Luz, in that she never learned to differentiate fantasy from reality, and felt entitled towards bringing her stories to life.
Perhaps Belos isnât REALLY chosen by the Titan, he just likes to think of himself as a Chosen One- Or he was, but others can also quality for this honor, which is something that aggravates Belos because it alludes to him not being more special than others. Because to Belos, itâs not enough to be unique and valid in your own way; You must be actively better than others, and the creation of the Emperorâs Coven above all reflects this. The belief that magic is a privilege, a luxury, something you must actively earn or be more worthy of than others forâŠ
Itâs also an interesting contrast, as if Belos has also been influenced by his works, or his works are a reflection of that- Then itâd set him apart from Luz as someone who actively deludes himself. As someone who is voluntarily blind, and willfully ignorant- Just like Lilith, who was inspired by Belos and looked to him as a role model when she was younger. Even before becoming a parasitic tyrant, Belos was a dark reflection of Luz, subjecting others to fantasies and delusions⊠Maybe not initially maliciously nor willingly, maybe it was just him having fun like any author. But then this innocuous action became very dark in retrospect, as Belos and his âhobbiesâ worsened and took on a more harmful role for the people of the Boiling Isles.
I suppose itâs worth noting that Belosâ imagery invokes a lot of white, which is also seen with Azuraâs predominantly white-and-purple robes⊠While Belos is white-and-gold. If Belos is a dark deconstruction of Luzâs assumption of a Chosen One narrative and fantasies, then maybe heâs also a deconstruction of Azura herself; And this of course suggests that he actively emulated his own creation. Heâs artistic and a writer like Luz is, but it seems Belos got TOO convinced by how good he was, and couldnât take constructive criticism- Which could be like King as an author in Sense and Insensitivity, up until he realizes that Luzâs input helped make him so great!
Luz and Amity can still engage in fantasy and fiction, the show always lets them find joy in this⊠Itâs just a matter of finding the distinction between the two and recognizing it. Fully indulging into fantasy is what couldâve led Luz to accepting Adegastâs illusions⊠But entirely rejecting is is the path that is the Reality Camp, which wouldâve sucked the fun and joy out of Luz and turned her into a hollow, soulless imitation of herself. Itâs okay to find comfort and media and even be inspired by it, to even take lessons from it; And while you should always prioritize listening to real life when it says otherwise, I think itâs worth observing that Luzâs quest to be a good person like Azura⊠Well, influences her to be kind!
And itâs this desire to emulate Azura that influences Luz to learn magic, which creates yet another hyperfixation that brings the girl joy, and leads to her connecting with Eda and everyone else in the Boiling Isles in the first place by staying there! Perhaps Belos will contrast with Luz in that while he recognized mediaâs ability to make him feel happier, he ultimately used it as a crutch, a substitute for actual meaningful interaction and connection with other people- Thus creating the monster we see today. There could be the idea of finding role models, people you want to emulate- But also recognizing their flaws, where to criticize them, and not be like them. That could tie into how Eda is a teacher to Luz, but isnât always right and excels by taking Luzâs feedback into consideration, instead of assuming she always knows better and will never be wrong.
All in all, this is a fascinating idea Pixel Anon! Even if Belos has no literal connection to the Azura books, I am a big fan of the idea of him being a dark reflection to Luz⊠A Luz as we see her start out in the series, only to be a Luz who never learns the lessons we see her go through. Belos wanted to be a hero, a main character; But he never went through the actual arc and character development of one, and instead ended up as the static villain, the main antagonist who causes problems for actualheroes. If some characters become what they despise most by trying to avoid that, then perhaps Belos is someone who avoids becoming what he wanted to be, in his attempts to be like that.
Whether or not media has played a role in Belosâ life has yet to be seen, but there is the idea of him having lived out a traditional âfantasyâ without realizing it as such, because to him this IS his reality- So itâs ironic then that Belos deludes himself while Luz doesnât. Maybe itâs because of this, because Luz has that self-awareness to consider the divide between her fantasies and what reality actually is; Because she has an actual frame of reference for what fantasy and fiction is. Suddenly Iâm reminded of that joke in Lost in Language, when Gary sees âFiction-Fictionâ because the Non part, the reminder of reality, was erased; And he has an existential crisis, wondering if any of his life was realâŠ
Imagine this being foreshadowing to BELOS, of all people, having an epiphany- Realizing that so much of his ârealityâ was just his own fiction, that he questions what things were real and what things never were. Belos realizing he forgot to consider reality, and now heâs questioning everything he knows, if his arcane knowledge is all for naught if he canât even distinguish facts from fantasy⊠etc. What is real and objective- What if all of his âNon-Fictionâ was simply just Fiction, and Luz the troublemaker must reveal this to Belos? Iâm just imagining Luz very awkwardly cringing and navigating around Belosâ breakdown, but also sort of relating to his dilemma and helping him recover; At least for the sake of everyone else, because a reformed Belos makes life easier than a dead one.
Plus, Luz is very compassionate in that sort of way⊠And while Belosâ radiance has blinded him for so long; Now, itâs Luzâs less harsh Light, which helps open his eyes and allow Belos to properly see the world around him. Eyes DO seem to be a major motif in the Boiling Isles, and with Belos, whose eyes need to be fixed by some palisman bile⊠If Belosâ light has blinded all, himself the first victim; Then Luzâs more Night-time, Star-oriented Light can bring a sunset to Belosâ shining era, for now the sun sets on his empire after all these years. And with the lights dimmed, Belos can appreciate the darkness around him as a contrast, and truly recognize things for what they are⊠And Luz can metaphorically open his eyes and mind.
If Luz illuminates others to the truth of their situation and what theyâre doing- Then maybe her final obstacle can be Belos⊠Alongside her mother Camila, when Luz reunites with her and reveals just how much happier sheâs been in the Boiling Isles, instead of the Reality Camp that was actually going to hurt her. THAT would be an unusual parallel, Belos and Camila, as two significant adults in Luzâs life⊠Potentially ones who taught Luz everything she knew prior to Eda, with Camila providing social interactions to the girl, while Belos provides lessons through his Azura fiction and media. If Azura and Camila were all Luz knew and learned from, itâd be interesting for her to teach THEM something herself- Again, a continuation of that theme of the teacher having a lot to learn from the student, and not being so infallible and all-knowing themselves. Even a teacher like Eda can still enjoy the wide-eyed opportunity and curiosity to learn as a student, once moreâŠ

Monster Hunter Rise ~ My Thoughts
Oh, man, Monster Hunter Rise, where to begin?! I guess Iâll start with the game itself in a nutshell is a BLAST! Itâs not without a few issues I have with it personally, but Iâve been having a lot of fun playing it nonetheless. I want to take the time to mention I am a second generation hunter myself. Started playing Monster Hunter in 2008 with Freedom 2 on PSP at the tender age of 13. So its safe to say Iâve got a lot to say about this game! If you want to read the full thing then here it is.Â
This review is MOSTLY spoiler-free! There isnât a lot you can spoil in this game... I mention some endgame stuff and there is a screenshot that contains the final bossâs armor but not focused on it. Just a friendly warning if you are a die-hard spoiler avoider.Â
The Weapon Types
Iâll start with the fact that the weapon types in MH Rise are all really fun to play and have very well polished movesets. I havenât extensively played with all the weapon types, but Iâd like to say a few things about the ones I have been using. Long Sword feels the best it has ever been in the entire series in my opinion, ironically this game starts you off with a Long Sword equipped too.Â
I went ham with Long Sword throughout the main story, but now have swapped over to maining Light Bowgun. I was a big Heavy Bowgun main in MH World, but shield spreadshot builds don't feel the same for me as they did in World, but the Light Bowgun in this game shreds. Narga Piercing LBG for distance shooting and then Magnamalo Spread LBG for getting up close and personal. Evade Extender 3 makes zipping around the battlefield a breeze and next to impossible to get hit making it a very fun and rewarding playstyle.Â
My brother on the other hand has been hitting hard with Long Sword and the new Hunting Horn. He misses the original note playing at times, but the damage on HH is insane and healing constantly with the Rampage Horn is a big plus too for a game with no health regen factors. Heâs been building sets for nearly every weapon type, but LS and HH are his two mains. Both weapon types were introduced in 2nd Gen, where we started, so maining those two for him is a bit symbolic. Also the fact that LS has been heralded as the most used weapon-type and HH the least used as of recent games is a neat contrast to use both.
The Characters, Setting, and Story
I know Monster Hunter isnât exactly known for itâs characters or story, heck most games hardly had a story until World came out. Typically Monster Hunter games follow the simple formula of big bad flagship monster causing problems with local village and ecosystem, hunt it, happy ending?, turns out bigger badder scarier secret boss monster was actually causing the problems, hunt it, true happy ending. Nothing wrong with that, I can roll with whatever story they make, majority of players are here for the gameplay. That said, I still enjoy and appreciate what story the devs put together no matter how it turns out. I liked what Rise offered, nothing too grand like World, more of a simple story following the old games formula.Â
Surprisingly I havenât seen many people talk about the characters in this game and the little fact that this is the first time in the ENTIRE SERIES (outside of MH Stories) characters have REAL names! Hinoa, Minoto, Fugen, Yomogi, Iori, Hamon, Rondine, Hojo, Utsushi, like honest to goodness actual NAMES, not âBlacksmith,â âVillage Elder,â or âFish Mongress.â The characters are fun though, nice and memorable, not really annoying. Also following Worldâs fully voice-acted characters is a nice touch. I sometimes miss the days of old when characters had simple grunts and you read everything, but I doubt that will ever come back now, just something lost to the classic MH games.Â
Then thereâs the super Asian-inspired ninja-like theme to the entire game. Youâll either love it, hate it, or maybe you donât care about how the village is at all. I like the whole ninja aesthetic while it does work for this game in particular, but I will admit its a little bit weird in the entirety of Monster Hunter as a series.
The Hunts, Gameplay, and Everything Else
Ah yes, the gameplay, the heart of the Monster Hunter games... while yes I do think this game is a lot of fun overall, I do have a few complaints with it... Iâm going to break this down into mini-sections because there is a lot to cover here.
Quest Preparations Maybe Iâm just old school, but I feel like they took away a lot of the prep work for going on hunts. No cold/ hot drinks, access full inventory on quests, refill items, no longer eat for attack/ def buffs, monsters always visible on maps, no random spawning on High Rank quests, little things like that. In the old games you had to prepare for each hunt, it was part of the game. You go after a big monster, you make sure you got everything you need to win BEFORE you depart on the quest. It feels like they are double-downing more so on just the fighting itself.Â
Tracking Monsters Monsters arenât even tracked anymore, theyâre always visible on your map. No having to run around and look for them like classic MH games... Though to be fair maybe thatâs better off in the old games with the paintball tracking system and individual loaded areas than in a game with a fully open-world setting because I got headaches tracking monsters in MH Worldâs open-world especially the Ancient Forest.Â
The Monsters The new monsters in this game a welcome addition. I donât really have any problems with their designs or fights. Have to say Goss Horag has a very fun fight, but my favorite new monster is probably Rakna-Kadaki. A pelican spider is a dang neat idea for a monster and there arenât a lot of Temnocerans. Would love to see the return of the Carapaceons though! This is literally the perfect game for Shen-Gaoren to come back with the new rampage system! Bring back my giant enemy crab, Capcom please!
Monster Behavior/ Minion Monsters/ Herbivores Added this subsection to talk specifically about the monstersâ behaviors in this game along with the minion monsters cause while not very important overall there are still some things to be said.Â
Same thing in MH World, but the monsters act more like animals now. While yes, that is more realistic and is mostly a good thing, but it honestly gives me second thoughts about hunting them. In World most boss monsters wouldnât attack you unless you attacked them first. That made me feel terrible walking up to a calm Teostra just chilling in the dunes and then I start smacking the heck outta it with a weapon... Old games the monsters saw you, the âsomethingâs gonna getcha music starts playingâ and then it charges you and your in the fight! Now its like youâre the monster killing a bunch of animals (exaggerating a bit, but still!)
Whatâs not exaggerated is the minions in this game. The old games had minions that were incredibly annoying and I wanted to kill them. This game however has the sweet little bullfangos, jagras, and other minions just lazing around sleeping. My brother and I were in need of Rhenoplos scalps for some gear, set out on a quest to slay some, find them peacefully sleeping by some rocks and I ask my brother, âOkay, so you gonna bash its skull in with your hammer and pop its eyes out or am I gonna fill it full of lead with my bowgun?â Needlessly violent example, I know, but it still makes the point that it feels more like animal cruelty when they arenât bothering anyone. Iâd rather the minions just start charging me and piss me off as a player, so I wouldnât feel bad defending myself to take them out.Â
Lastly, thereâs the herbivores. Not a lot to say on the matter, but I feel like they couldâve given a few more herbivore types. Like no Aptonoth in this game? I thought they were kinda a staple of the series for herbivores. I also feel like the maps could feel a bit more lively with more herbivores placed around. Maybe Mosswines in the Shrine Ruins, especially when scaling the central mountain shrine with the mushroom colonies everywhere. Great spots for mushroom piggies!Â
The Maps/ Locales I love them! Well for the most part. They are good and I donât dislike any in particular. My only problems is that they sometimes feel too big, too open, and too empty. I know they have a lot of stuff in them, gathering points, spiribirds, relics, and many other things, but there is an odd sense of emptiness there. Like I mentioned earlier, I think perhaps adding in more scattered monsters mightâve helped that a bit. Only other thing to mention is that the new locales rely too heavily on the Palamutes to get around effectively. I personally like bringing my kitties with me on multiplayer quests, so I am at the mercy of wirebug zipping to get around and often left behind.Â
Oh, last thing I will mention on maps is while its not in the base game, I pray they add back the Tower as a map. Preferably the 2nd Gen version where you start at base camp and scale the tower. A game thatâs all about rising and verticality, the Tower is literally the PERFECT map to have in this game!Â
Spiribirds Love em or hate them, thereâs the Spiribirds. Cool concept, but I donât think it works very well in my opinion. I donât care about roaming the map to collect my bird buffs, I just want to eat for Attack Up large like old games and be done. I definitely try to grab them when I can, but I canât be bothered to chase down all the birds each and every hunt just to get my full Attack up buff.Â
Wirebugs On with the title of the game being Rise giving meaning to the new wirebugs feature. Wirebugs are fun to use, zip around the map, super attacks, and what-not, but I canât help but feel its a little out of place in a Monster Hunter game. Feels like Iâm Spider-Man or something. I know I praised this when I played the demo and Iâm not dissing it now, I still enjoy using them, but I am also admitting that they do feel very outlandish for a Monster Hunter game. Still better than the slinger/ clutch claw though! Letâs never talk about those accursed items again.Â
Silkbinds The Silkbind attacks though are fully great! I love having access to super attacks like Hunting Arts and things like that for my weapons, so I sincerely hope they keep some kind of super attack format in future games.
Mounting The mounting system in this game is weird, but pretty cool! Its a great way to let you control a monster for a change and beat the snot out of other monsters as a monster. I saw someone describe it is as âgoing full on Ratatouille with the monstersâ and honestly there isnât a better way to explain it than that.Â
Palicoes/ Palamutes The Buddy System in this game is great! Palicoes still feel about the same as they did in World, maybe a little less powerful now since you can have two of them at once, still love them though and prefer to bring a Palico with me on my quests.Â
Then there is the new doggies, the Palamutes! Super cute and cuddly, but also quite powerful! I love the doggos, but I wish the maps werenât designed around them. I like to bring my cat with me on multiplayer quests, so I donât get a dog to ride and the maps are HUGE, very wide-opened, lots of running... Wirebugs help, but still not quite as fast as the puppies.Â
Oh and two little pet peeve of mine is you canât see other players buddy names and you canât change buddy comments! I want people to be able to see my buddiesâ names and I need my Garfield catâs comment to say âI hate Mondays.â and my Sonic dog to say âGotta go fast!â and my Courage the Cowardly Dog dog to have âThe things I do for love.â Unless there is a hidden menu somewhere where you can edit these, but alas I have yet to find it...
Voiced Hunters Hunters have always been the silent protagonists of the games with attack grunts, hurt sounds, and little to nothing more. Now they are full voiced for gestures and full hunting dialogue. I really like this, its funny to hear them shout things and stuff and having some familiar voice actors in the game is really cool to have them voice my characters. My brother rocking the Xander Mobus voice-type on his hunter is freakinâ cool and hilarious at the same time. I am tempted to make a Zentisu hunter, name him Zenitsu, give him the Zentisu voice-type, and go full Thunderclap maining a Thunder-type Long Sword just for the heck of it. Oh and also thereâs the fact that CRISTINA VEE IS OFFICIALLY IN A MONSTER HUNTER GAME NOW AS A FEMALE VOICE OPTION! Still feels weird comparing it to previous games, but Iâm okay with it because the fun factor in it outweighs the weird for me personally. Besides if you for some reason decided you hate fun you can just mute them in the options.Â
Layered Armor (or lack-of) I love Layered Armor... and there is only two sets in this game. The Deluxe Editionâs âKamuraiâ samurai looking layered armor and the Magnamalo amiibo âSinisterâ layered set with a few head only layered pieces as DLC in the eShop. I was honestly expecting all armor to be layered and unlockable in the base game after the huge demand for layered armor in MH World and Transmog being a thing in the side teamâs last game, MHXX/ MHGU.Â
I think a mixed system of both Transmog and Layered Armor would be ideal. Transmog system for in-game armors and then additional bonus themed armor sets made as Layered Armors like the Kamurai set. That way players can be rewarded for crafting all the armors with use of a Transmog system even giving an incentive to make multiple sets twice to Transmog differently. While the devs could still make money off cool unique Layered sets as DLC in the eShop. Literally fixes both issues right there. Feel free to use that idea, Capcom, and youâre welcome.
Multiplayer/ Lobbies/ Scaling Four people lobbies are back! Not necessarily a good thing. I mean hey its not bad either, but I honestly preferred the larger lobbies like World had. Having more people doesnât make it less social. All they need is to force people to do multiplayer quests in the Gathering Hub. I prefer large lobbies and have people do whatever they want and meet up in the Hub for socials. Mainly what I dislike about 4 player lobbies is everyone will be expected to help each other on their quests within the lobby. I just want to chill and do my own thing, but see and interact with other players in the village between quests. Oh, but the ability to join quests late is seriously great! Dropping into a lobby and seeing people already on a quest and being able to jump in with them is a godsend!Â
Difficulty scaling is a very weird thing. Itâs basically a double-edged sword. Its good to have because you can beat everything on your own, but that also defeats the purpose of multiplayer. In the past games, Hub quests were scaled higher for multiplayer, so getting more people to help only made it easier. Now, why bother with players when you could just do it yourself scaled to an easier single-player difficulty? I can usually get faster times when I solo things now. Multiplayer is there just for the social aspect to goof around with friends or if you just wanna do chill hunting with people. Itâs no longer a requirement or an aid for beating the game. Like I said, its a weird thing, not bad, but not good either? I dunno, I just compare a lot of things to the classic MH games. In the past getting a second player to help makes it twice as easy compared to beating a Hub quest by yourself, while getting four players makes it where youâre effectively doing 4x more damage. Now its like you get 4-players and the monster gets 4x the health too. That might not be the exact scaling, but you get my point.Â
One last thing I want to touch on which a lot of people have already mentioned is the fact multiplayer can get pretty chaotic. Especially when you have 4 players with 4 palamutes all smacking away at a monster. Hit effects are EVERYWHERE! Creates quite the mess and can be hard to tell whatâs happening.Â
Quest Difficulty/ Harder Monsters I donât care too much about how hard the game is and I know this is a touchy subject, but I do like challenging monsters, without relying on gimmicky crap to fight them. MH World was filled with gimmicky fights like Behemoth, Leshen, even Alatreon and Fatalis to some degree. I still have Extreme Behemoth PTSD. I just want good clean fights, no damage checks, unavoidable one-hit kill moves, crap like that is not cool. I want to cart because I screwed up and made a wrong move and got punished by some wicked strong attack from a big bad boss monster. Not a stupid damage check telling me, âOh, you not do enough damage, you die now.â To be fair, old Monster Hunter games had some gimmicky fights too though. MH4U with Apex Monsters and Wystones, MHGU with HP tank Hyper Monsters, heck even Freedom 2 was unintentionally gimmicky with outrageous hitboxes haha. Oh, that game was brutal! Deviants in MHGU were amazing though! Some really tough fights there, but incredibly rewarding to beat, thatâs what I love!
The Endgame/ Secret Bosses (or lack-of) There is no Endgame, we are stuck in the Infinity War for now (or Affinity War as my brother calls it since the meta is all about those crits!) Okay, so thatâs a bit harsh, all jokes aside there is an endgame, but its not exactly what I was expecting and leaves me wanting more. One of my favorite aspects of Monster Hunter games is the endgames and the secrets they hold, which this game had very few! They revealed nearly EVERY monster before this game launched. I get it, they want to sell their game, but leave some secrets please. Only monster that was secret was just the final boss. I love getting to the end of the game and unlocking new quests to fight the big scary endgame bosses. I guess World kinda suffered from that too a little bit. Mostly hanging on to old games like Freedom Unite unlocking Fatalis, MH3U getting Abyssal Lagiacrus, and Molten Tigrex in MH4U was very cool! Could just be the state of games these days like Smash Ultimate where they reveal everything before the game is out since data miners will just leak them anyways... kinda makes me sad.Â
Updates and Future Content
I know this game has planned updates that will add a lot of content, but I canât help but feel those âupdatesâ were part of the game thatâs been withheld to make the updates feel like so much more. Its like they ripped out the ending of the game and are passing it of as a big huge update to be released after launch.Â
The real kick to this is the fact there is no Hunter Rank in the current game... Iâve done approximately 300 quests so far in my game, its going to hurt me very badly when I see the HR update come out and I donât get any HR for the hunts Iâve done so far. I know some people could care less about HR and just see it as a number, but for me that number is a nice thing to see. I love seeing it go up as I do more quests and play more of the game. Going hard at launch has been a lot of fun, but less rewarding knowing I am quite possibly not getting any HR points for all my gameplay.Â
Only reason I can see they would not want to allow a buildup of HR before this update is because this update will add a bunch of new endgame monsters most likely unlocked through getting high Hunter Rank. I pray for my boy Akantor to finally shine again, I know the side team loves him, so letâs please get him into Rise! AND Please donât show them off in videos, Capcom! Just stealth drop a bunch of Elder Dragons and Endgame bosses into the game!
Final Thoughts
Iâm probably just stuck in the old days some, I guess this is just how the games will be going forward, but a bit of that makes me sad. Feels like the game series I loved so much is losing some character and personality of what made is special and unique. This review mightâve got a bit ranty, but I like to critique a game series I am very passionate about. World was very similar to this. From everything Iâve said, by no means do I hate this game. I still love MH Rise and the entire series and Iâll keep playing it having a lot of fun along the way. Best way I can describe Monster Hunter Rise is itâs the Side Teamâs Monster Hunter World. Its fresh, new, and very experimental!Â
All in all this game is still great and I stand by what I said at the beginning of this entire post, its a blast to play! I hope everyone can enjoy it and remember, Happy Hunting!Â

Crossover musing! What if the Ghost Zone is next door to the Demon Realm? Ghosts are kind of like demons, in their own class/league/whatever, so it could work. A fragile peace allows them to do business like trade goods and borrow monsters or powers. Team Phantom finds a ghost portal that leads them to the Demon Realm during shenanigans and crosses paths with Luz's shenanigans.
I mean, with all the doors in the Ghost Zone, you could take that (ânext doorâ) quite literally. Team Phantom could go through the door as easily as a portal then. Probably while being chased, in a part of the Ghost Zone with which theyâre not awfully familiar. And if there are terms thrown around like âDemon Realmâ or âBoiling Islesâ, well, thatâs par for the course for the Ghost Zone, isnât it? Hang a left at the Carnivorous Cavern, and if you donât get eaten, you might find the Demon Door.Â
...Sam probably pushed them to explore, and past experience was not enough for Danny or Tucker to dissuade her from the idea. And when they saw there was some sort of coded lock on the door, they figured that would be the end of it. They didnât think Sam would actually solve it, let alone quickly enough that they could get through before that shadow thing got them. (Sam and Tucker arenât entirely convinced itâs not a ghost, whatever Danny says about his ghost sense not going off, because this is the Ghost Zone; what else could it be?)
But curses are most definitely a thing. We know that from Dora and Aragon. And, when they do run into the Owl House crew? Those folks assume that Danny is cursed. I mean, heâs magic, obviously, he does magic, as far as theyâre concerned, but also cursed, because magic doesnât do that to you unless itâs a curse. Danny attempts to protest this but fails. Itâs hard to explain that he died, except not, or maybe not entirely, or something. Heâs not even sure himself.
Sam and Willow bond over plant magic. Completely by accident (read: enthusing over new plants), Sam discovers that she has a talent for plant magic in this realm, despite being human. Luz doesnât think that is fair--she doesnât even have to draw anything!--but when the story of Undergrowth comes out, Luz isnât the only one whoâs mildly horrified. Possession isnât something to be treated lightly here, and if that possession permanently changed Sam, well....
Cue Tucker making some remark that heâs glad that never happened to him, until the others remind him about the King Tuck incident, but that was a magical artifact, and Gus explains the difference. Not being permanently changed doesnât mean heâs not more susceptible to it now, though, and they all have to be careful. None of the Amity Park folks are entirely happy about the idea that their past experiences might come back to haunt them here if they cross the wrong opportunist who recognizes the signs in them that make them easier to manipulate.
Luz and the others are too curious about the newcomers, and they about the others (mostly Luz, wondering how another human wound up here, because theyâve seen magic before, too; Desiree is proof enough that that existed in their world. Or maybe not their world, they now realize, but this world, unless magic was once lost from their world, or--), for anyone to realize the door/portal has vanished entirely. Not unexpected in the Haunted Halls, Amity points out. Thatâs what this place does. Doors that open into walls, staircases that lead nowhere, things like that (Ă la the Winchester mansion). Itâs not supposed to make sense. Case in point, these three tumbled out of window shutters that opened into a wall.Â
Tuckerâs the first one to pull out some technology--heâs updated his PDA with anything remotely useful, including tech he adapted from the Fentons that essentially acts as both a Fenton Finder and Real World Item radar--and heâs delighted to realize that it still works. He has service, he has internet, he...does not have answers. Theyâre not in a tech dead zone, but theyâre not anywhere thatâs mapped. Itâs a collection of bright dots overlaid on a grid with its usual set markers of distance, but thereâs nothing of the map to help him figure anything out, even though he installed that feature with his last update. (Luz, peeking over his shoulder, points to a cluster of Real World Items and says thatâs Edaâs stand, and thatâs the Owl House, and, ooh, all those places must be people whoâve bought something from Eda! Sheâs delighted. Amity tries to distract them once she realizes her house is marked on that screen, too.)Â
And then something happens, and the Owl House folks are abruptly reminded of why they came here in the first place. (âWe need the Guardianâs treasure,â Gus confides.) Itâs not an official quest, per se. More a thing thatâs supposed to prevent a different thing from becoming worse, except it went sideways. The more thatâs explained in bits and pieces, the more alarming it sounds, despite frequent reassurances of, âDonât worry, that happens a lot! Itâs better than it sounds.â
Luckily, Team Phantom is used to terrible odds.
And if they can help with this, and then help retrieve the door thatâll open up into their world so they can go home? Even better. Not that this place isnât cool. It is. It just, uh, isnât a place they want to visit and be stuck in. Visit and go back and forth when they want? Sure. Visit and become trapped? Not so much. Especially when their disappearance is entirely unexplained--theyâve no excuse of summer camp--and Jazz can only cover for the three of them for so long because everyone will get suspicious, even in Amity Park.

i got all soft with your answers, just let me breathe first... okay, okay so give me a few headcannons about jasico, please? can be cannon or au, it's really your choice and i would love to read them đ„ș
i have.......... so many but heres are a few
a significant part of the reason jason went to pasadena was because he had feelings for nico and didnât want to ruin their friendship. he gets the idea that nico would only ever see him as another percy, or that he would view nico as his âgay awakeningâ, and he couldnât put that kind of pressure on him so he left (also he was dating will and thatâs hard to watch)
nico gets more lonely and withdrawn after jason leaves because the whole reason he didnât go to new rome with hazel and reyna, where heâs arguably more comfortable, is because jason was going to stay at camp with him
jason is claustrophobic + anxiety = bad time, nico notices at the 2nd reunion after gaea (after toa nonsense) and leads him away. jason sits with his head between his hands and tries not to cry while nico patiently waits for him to calm down, giving him breathing exercises and coaching him through his panic attack because thatâs something he knows how to handle
nicos got severe intrusive thoughts and ocd, and with trauma and nightmares, he can go nonverbal for days at a time. jason takes care of him and learns sign language so he can always make sure heâs meeting nicoâs needs wherever heâs at. (this makes nico cry)
they both end up having other partners over several years, but it always comes back to the two of them. theyre simultaneously terrified of hurting each other and believe the other deserves a love that they canât provide. they get together officially when theyâre 19/20 but their friendship beforehand always carries an undercurrent bordering romanceÂ
all the minor gods LOVE jason and nico. they work on the shrines together, jason designing and nico constructing, and theyâre so polite and respectful and charming??? and they LIKE EACH OTHER?????? nico and jason are constantly identified as a couple or roped into romantic situations because the minor gods are rooting for them. literally the god is like âletâs talk this over more tomorrow, please enjoy your stay--what?? only ONE BED????? how could this HAPPENâ
nico brings jason to the underworld for an unofficial âmeet the parentsâ and persephone LOVES him. he leaves with a succulent and a distinct sense of accomplishment
nicoâs love language is physical touch, jasonâs is words of affirmation. nico tries not to pay heed to the fact that he was uncomfortable when will touched him but now nico makes up excuses to touch jason whenver theyâre together, whether itâs straightening his glasses or linking their pinkies together or kissing his cheek goodbye
their first kiss is after jason is saved from apolloâs quest. âi know youâre dating will. i know i donât have the right to be upset. but i would be more upset if i--if i died without you knowing how i feel. i wont make that mistake againâ and nico doesnât kiss him back but his hand lingers over jasonâs on his cheek. thatâs how he knows this is a semicolon, and not a period at the end of their sentence, collecting âwhat ifsâ and âandsâ
nico is big spoon. in more poetic terms, nico needs something to hold onto. jason needs to be held.

I started writing a post that said âThe reason the Percy Jackson and the Olympians is better than Heroes of Olympus is because it understood simplicity and character developmentâ and then accidentally wrote like 10 paragraphs.Â
The reason the Percy Jackson and the Olympians is better than Heroes of Olympus is because it understood simplicity and character development.
The PJO series was so effective was because of the simplicity of it. It was a well written and interwoven story that took place over the course of many years, but it was never too complicated. Each book was a quest and each quest had a prophecy and each book built up to the final battle in the Last Olympian. You never felt lost, you were completely engaged. Plot points and characters were set up a book and a half in advance. It was an incredibly well developed world and I will never get over how excellent the payoff was in The Last Olympian. The Annabeth & Luke stuff is to this day one of the best payoffs Iâve ever witnessed in a series. The way everyone came together in the final battle, everyone that weâd met over the course of four books? Impeccable. The Hestia plot line was set up from Percyâs first moment at Camp Half-Blood.The character arcs were stunning and realistic and truly a coming of age story.Â
The way the series itself developed from the happy go lucky cross country road trip in the Lightning Thief to the first death of the war with Bianca we witnessed in the Titanâs Curse to the serious tone and action picking up in the Battle of the Labyrinth to the fact that 75% of the Last Olympian was just the Battle of Manhattan and it worked. It payed off. Ten years after the final book was released and to this day I say it is one of the best written series ever and I will love it for the rest of my life.
And Heroes of Olympus kind of... fell flat. For me it was just too complicated. It had so many characters and plot lines that it was hard for me to keep track of it all. Specifically House of Hades and Blood of Olympus, every time we switched to a new perspective, I struggled to remember what had happened when last we left off. Things were kind of set up a couple books in advance but there was so much going on that theyâd mention a character or an object and Iâd be like âWait, whatâs that again?â ESPECIALLY with all the giants and their names that I couldnât remember. Blood of Olympus had no payoff for me. Like, where was Percyâs sacrifice that was so heavily hyped up? How did the characters grow and develop? Rick was trying to do a lot over the course of the series with all the different perspectives and introducing new characters and I kind of think he lost sight of what made the original series good. Yeah there was a big plot and war or whatever but the original series was about the characters.Â
PJO was getting to watch Percy go from an idiot twelve year old to leading an army to save his home. Seeing Annabeth go from a stubborn little kid trying to prove herself to the Architect of Olympus. Grover went from a total dorky mess to the Lord of the Wild. Clarisse went from a bully to a drakon slaying hero. We got to see Lukeâs whole journey in all of itâs ups and downs and understand his character better. PJO was always about the characters, no matter how cool the plot and action was. It was always about getting to grow up alongside them. Now one could make the argument that Heroes of Olympus wasnât trying to be a coming of age story, it was trying to be a cool action adventure series, which is fair. But I think the characters suffered because of it.
Percy and Annabeth didnât really change over the course of five books, they just got more trauma. Hazel and Piper got like, good at fighting and using their powers, which was kind of badass. Jason figured out his career, I guess. I refuse to acknowledge Leoâs arc because itâs dumb that it was tied to a girl and falling for her and not realizing how loved and valued by his friends. Frank got promoted and like, I donât know, found his courage, which was nice. I really liked Reyna but we never properly got to know her. I know absolutely nothing about Octavian. The only character who got an ACTUAL arc and is, to be honest, the MAIN reason Iâm glad this series was written at all was Nico. Nico got an ARC. Nicoâs story of feeling like a hated outcast to a welcomed member of the family with a home and people who love and accept him is the BEST damn thing about Heroes of Olympus and you can quote me on that.Â
I really enjoyed Mark of Athena (because it plays directly into my found family lives together in a personalized home doing adventures and eating meals together niche interest thank u 2012) and there were good parts sprinkled throughout the series and I do like the new characters. I did! I thought they were neat. I just felt like they werenât given proper justice. We didnât see anyone long enough to actually get to know them. I missed the side characters of the original series. Like, where was Grover the whole fucking time? Clarisse? Rachel? The Stoll Brothers? Why didnât we get to see more of Thalia? Honestly I didnât really care about the Romans as much, where were the characters I grew up with?Â
Iâm also not going to get into the whole âso many things that happened in the original series were swept aside for the sake of interesting plot development like the minor gods being important or whateverâ because like we know and I donât have the energy to be upset about that right now lmao.
Further, Percy Jackson and the Olympians was all building up to one moment specifically: Percy giving Pandoraâs Jar to Hestia and the line âHope survives best at the hearth.â It is the thesis of the series. Iâve posted about it at length before because it is what ties all the books together. The idea that we should place our hope in our loved ones, our friends and our family, and if we do that, we wonât be tempted to give up hope again. Iâm crying just thinking about it! Literally! That one simple line is what made the series so powerful and it truly felt like every single line, every single moment was just building up to that specific moment and I will literally never get over it. I am not joking when I say I want that line tattooed on me. Itâs iconic and i think about it daily.
Heroes of Olympus had uhhhhhhhh..... It had..... ummmm........
I shit you not, I finished reading the book for the second time less than 24 hours ago and I couldnât tell you. What was that series about? What was the thesis? Did it have any iconic lines? What was it all building up to? A battle? Like, cool I guess? But how did the characters grow and develop? You know what even if they did, Iâm not sure I kept up with it because there was so much going on all the time! and I got lost in it! I read the series when it first came out and then completely forgot everything that happened in it! It was too much!
The spirit of the original books was never in the action and the monsters and the gods. It was in the characters, and how they grew up. How they changed and developed and became better people. How they all loved each other. It was about the promise of family and of hope. And thatâs why the original series will always be exponentially better and hold a special place in my heart.

I so badly want a Roman prequel series. More than a Solangelo book. There could be so many great things in it.
Ideally, weâd get a series, basically original PJO but on the Roman side, presumably then following Jason in the same way we originally followed Percy.
But that would just be rehashing what weâve already seen! Jasonâs story would be too similar to Percyâs! - I hear you cry. But bear with me.
Yes: there would be some big similarities - following a son of one of the big three as he grows up and masters his powers and all that. And yes it would also conclude with him fighting a titan. But! I also think theyâre different enough that it would read more as parallels than just copy and paste. It could be really interesting.
For one thing: Jason is starting way earlier than Percy. And I am desperate to know about the wolves thing. Correct me if Iâm wrong, but all the info we have thus far is pretty vague, no? We know he went to the wolves when he was about two years old. But we donât really know how long he stayed with them.
Thereâs the idea that he was raised by wolves (which donât get me wrong I love that) and only went to the Legion when he was older - for parallels sake say about twelve. But we donât know thatâs the case for sure. He mightâve just spent the more or less normal time period with the wolves, or even if he were there longer than most - a year, two years even - he mightâve toddled off to camp still pretty young.
Cause this is another thing: we know very little about Camp Jupiter. In CHB you see for a fact that there are plenty of young demigods there, talking ten and under. Unless Iâm mistaken, we never really heard mention of any little kids in the Legion right? Hazel was what, thirteen, in SoN, which is fairly young, but I donât think there was any mention of anyone much younger than that. There was the little girl helping Terminus, but she was from New Rome not the Legion. And the Legion isnât a summer camp of course, thatâs a crucial difference.
They are quite literally an army, preparing for war should one ever arise. So do they have a minimum age requirement? Would not be unreasonable to assume they would. We know the majority of Legionaries are legacies from New Rome as opposed to actual half bloods, so itâs not unreasonable to think these kids live normal lives in New Rome until they hit a certain age and get conscripted/have the option to join the Legion for training.
If this is the case, then Jason might notâve been with the wolves for years at all. He couldâve done his time and then been passed along to the care of New Rome. Set up somewhere to go to school and grow up and have something of a life to prepare him for his future in the Legion. That would be an interesting difference from Percy who had grown up not knowing about his heritage, for Jason to be fully aware of his godly parentage and to grow up knowing he was heading to the Legion as soon as he was old enough. Iâm not sure about timings because in The Lost Hero pretty sure heâs fifteen and has twelve lines on his tattoo âfor twelve years of service in the Legionâ according to the wiki; but the wiki for the tattoos alone says the lines can be for years at Camp Jupiter or for completed quests and such, so it could mean he was toddling about CJ at three years old in mini Legionnaire armour like Caligula (oh the irony), or just that he crammed a crap load of cool stuff into just a few years when he was older.
So the series could quite happily start with him joining the Legion and maybe just summarise his life before that, have the important parts explained as relevant to the plot, I dunno. But it would give us more info on how Camp Jupiter actually works because personally I am clamouring for more info on the Romans.
Presuming that Jason is at least a Probatio by the time heâs about twelve (and itâd be cool to see him earn his full place in the legion too), that also means weâd get to see other peopleâs stories happening alongside his.
We know he fought the Trojan Sea Monster at some point, so that would be a cool quest to see play out. We donât know a lot of other things heâs done, but we can assume heâd have been in the Legion when Reyna turned up, which would also be a really interesting story to follow.
We know from tSoM that Reyna and Hylla were on Circeâs island, when Percy was about 12/13, and it seems in SoN that he and Reyna were both around the same age, 16 or so. We know Reyna and Hylla spent some time after tSoM on Blackbeardâs ship before she made it to Camp Jupiter. So somewhere between ages 12-16, she would pop up at camp and I firmly believe she wouldâve been Jasonâs friend before they both became Praetors. And I would kill to see it. I wanna see them go on a quest together so badly. They would be an awesome team.
But weâd get to see Jason go through the steps, Probatio to Centurion to Praetor. Weâd see him improving the Fifth Cohortâs standing in the Legion. Weâd see Reyna become Praetor. (Weâd ideally see Jason and Octavian gently bitch at each other like with Percy, but thatâs just for me.) Weâd get to see Jason and Reyna being Praetors together for a bit hopefully. That would be cool. And no doubt the series would conclude with their side of the Titan War, with Kriosâ defeat - which would be so cool to see!
Being able to see more of their side of the war would also be really interesting as well. Because surely, there was more to it for them than just that one battle out of nowhere right? They mustâve been aware of the war and enlisted by the gods to help out right? Maybe there were some other titans for them to fight, maybe they had defectors too? Perhaps they were under the impression Kronos was still chopped up in little bits and Krios was running the show, either wanting to take Kronosâ place as the big cheese, or thinking the titans were working to reform Kronos, but they were kept out of Lukeâs side of things so they didnât realise that he already had been? Who knows. Certainly not me, cause we donât have any books on it.
And there would be opportunities to have almost crossovers. Particularly regarding the war. They might just overhear things that donât necessarily make sense to them but that we get, stuff like that. See some aftermath from one of Percyâs visits to the area. So many options.
Oh also actually, just for added angst and a different view than Percyâs, there was that freaking tragic bit in HoH I think where Jason thinks about his mother. The part about following orders and rules bothered him, but he insisted on doing so and keeping his promises because his mother had abandoned him and broken her promise. That would be an interesting aspect for the narration and his point of view because itâs the exact opposite of Percy. Percy doesnât mind pushing the limits with the gods and exploiting loopholes or calling them on their faults, focused on surviving till the end of the day when he can go home to his mother and forget the gods and their stupid rules. Jason, on the other hand, doesnât have anywhere to go back to. Camp Jupiter and the roles heâs given there are quite literally it for him, so even though he may resent it as much as Percy, he feels the need to bite his tongue and do everything in his power meet expectations and stay in line, etc. And yes, itâs for the benefit of others like he said in HoH, but maybe also the threat that if he makes too much trouble, where else is he gonna go and who else outside the Legion does he have?
Unfortunately we wouldnât get to see Frank and Hazel come into it as newbies because that wouldâve only happened after the war, so unlikely the series would continue after they beat Krios. But itâd still be a good set up to lead back into HoO alongside original PJO.
Also, I wanna know if Jason wouldâve been particularly aware of his dad handing him off to Juno, or if she took a back seat until yoinking his memories out his head and dumping him on a dusty bus. I quite like the idea of him knowing, that she wouldnât have been shy about popping up now and again as his patron, maybe sending him quests, offering occasional assistance like Poseidon did for Percy. Juno cared about her little champion, you canât tell me different. Iâd like to see her drop by from time to time. Or if he just accepted he was Jupiterâs and his dad basically never wanted to talk to him, and was a bit blindsided when Juno popped up after his hit on Krios.
Maybe he was just heading to bed after a long day of Titan slaying, thinking what heâd have for breakfast tomorrow and poof - Juno staring at him in his PJs, doesnât he feel underdressed. Barely gets out an âum-?â before sheâs like âgot a quest for you. Surprise!â
(Since we got The Fall Of Jason Grace from Apollo in ToA, this series could be called something silly like The Rise Of Jason Grace to mirror it. I dunno.)
Either way, I need this. We deserve this. I will literally pay like 20$ per book if we could get this.
Wrote this hella sleep deprived and without sources and Iâm still in ToA and havenât read the extra books yet like demigod files and the Probatio one, so anything Iâve missed, had been answered, or is just plain wrong, let me know.
