i like him for a lot of reasons !! it usually starts out that i relate to characters, which is how it started w dazai too, but really idk bro he just makes me so sad and idk how to explain i just LOVE DAZAI hes my baby hes my pookie ill die for him thats all anyone needs to know

i have a lot, but id say probably that he likes cats/is compared to cats a lot, and is good with children, i just find it very sweet. also i love his style, and i love how intelligent he is.

how he treated akutagawa, although i dont blame him since he was like, a child, who didnt know how else to act due to how he was raised and grew up, too, although it still doesnt excuse it, and its still my least fav thing about him.

erm... i dont like how the rest of them water him down to sad suicidal bandage man. i also hate when people say hes a bad person, because hes not, the whole point of bsd is that most if not all characters are morally gray, and although dazai did things that were in fact, not okay, its not so black and white to be like "omg fuck he sucks hes a terrible character" (obviously u can still dislike him bc everyone has an opinion and thats okay but like as a character hes a lot more than just a bad person 😭 in fact id say hes grown to be a very good person)

OK, I'm curious, why do you think Naoto is trans? You've made it clear it's not just a headcanon so you must some sort of reasoning right? I've seen other people argue it but it's always stuff taken out of context, and they never address the time she herself says she never wanted to be a man, so I really am honestly curious what your reasoning is.

It’s the transphobia around how they handle his character. They treat him like how I and a lot of other transmasc people have been treated- like a girl who just has internalized misogyny and wants to be a boy to avoid that. 

The other characters never let Naoto explain, it’s Yukiko who assumes and explains everything and Naoto agrees because really.. he doesn’t have a choice when you think about it. With how they’ve reacted to instantly misgendering him when his shadow said what very well could’ve just been an insecurity that Naoto didn’t want to accept that he had- it’s obvious that Naoto wouldn’t be able to say that they’re wrong. 

He was forcibly outed as “not really being a boy,” being outed against your will as a “Hoho, this person’s body doesn’t match what they say they are!” is and always will be an incredibly transphobic troupe. It’s something that has happened to real trans people, it’s something that has put us in danger, and it’s something that has gotten us killed. It’s a huge thing wrong with Kanji too, just with liking men rather than being trans. 

And with how his social link route is, whenever he expresses uncertainty with his gender and how he acts, the protagonist doesn’t reassure him to do what’s comfortable, he pushes him to act more feminine specifically. He isn’t pushing Naoto to act like how Naoto wants, he’s pushing Naoto to be like how the protagonist himself wants- and that is, a girl. A better way to go about this would simply be the protagonist asking if there’s way he can help Naoto feel more comfortable, and if it was Naoto himself who presented the idea that he would like to be more feminine, that was fine- but that’s not what happens. It’s abusive and something that does happen to real life trans people all the time. 

I know that the art book or something said that Naoto is his given name from his parents, but that contradicts what was said by his shadow. The way his shadow words things, like the whole “picking up a mans name can’t allow you to cross the boarder of gender” or something along those lines is a strong implication that Naoto picked the name himself. And the fact that none of his co-workers or employers know he’s afab is ridiculous considering I’m pretty sure your employer at least is going to know what gender you have down on your ID, and Naoto would’ve had to change his to male to get away with that. Same with literally every other professional setting such as school. It’s almost impossible for him to have not been outed instantly if he hadn’t put down his gender as male and had a legal name change, or straight up forged some documents to get away with it and didn’t get caught despite working for the police. He’s a 15 year old kid, it’s unlikely he’s going to go to all these lengths JUST to not be outed as a girl unless he was trans- because you can’t just ,, go back on this kind of thing very easily. 

There are ways to write a character who disguises themselves as a gender they aren’t for the sake of safety- it wouldn’t be a surprise for a girl to pretend to be a boy if she lived in a dangerous city, for example. It’s something I’ve heard about real life girls doing just for a higher chance of being left alone. But Naoto isn’t how you do that. Of course he’s going to say he’s a woman, that’s how Atlus sees him. And, if we just look at Catherine, we can see how they view trans women- no different than men. Atlus is transphobic and does not view trans people as the gender they really are, and that’s just undeniable. 

Well, those are all the reasons I can think of off the top of my head on why I think Naoto is trans. I hope you understand a bit better why we see him this way. ^-^

like, you can be neither? and what you actually would call yourself isnt neccesarily like, visible? since femininity and masculinity (and androgynety) look different for everyone so wether or not someone is transmasc isnt sth you can necessaily tell just by looking?

same goes for alignment systems, and for like the galaxian things and p much everything like that?

like you know that none of those are exclusive right? like you can be woman- and male-aligned at the same time or alternating between the 2? or between woman-aligned and unaligned etc? the galaxian stuff actually has like words for being both lunarian and solarian f.ex?

and that you dont have to use any of these systems/words for yourself if they dont fit?

i dont use the alignment system, i wouldnt call myself transmasc, im too unfamiliar with the galaxian system to really say anything on that. but as i understand it, its not sth id be interested in for myself?

these words can be useful for some ppl, but as soon as you try to organise ppl by these terms thats like? p much useless? since theyre all pretty vague? its unlikely that 2 male-aligned folk have the same understanding as too what that means for them? they dont denote anything other than “this sounds useful to me, ill use this”

and putting everyone into boxes of this or that is really just? the binary? which yk nb ppl generally try to leave behind?

like, if you (who may or may not actually read this far, which i wouldnt blame you bc my writing sucks) didnt know any of this thats fine. many ppl dont, mostly bc there isnt much general understanding of anything outside the man-woman-binary (even among nb ppl so like). and i honestly dont know if im the best person to ask abt any of this (since i dont use any of the terms, systems, etc) but im more than willing to help answer questions?

just please stop with this nonsense of basicly using these systems as “binary-lite(tm)” (as ive seen it called). male-aligned ppl arent men-lite, woman-aligned ppl arent women-lite. same goes for lunarians, solarians, etc. not every nb person uses these systems either, or exclusively, so please keep that in mind too.
