Yeah didn't get to do the new leggings OR the shit I threw in a box to deal with later (not like they sell on the table anyway)
But I did get my endcap reset and the new shit isn't a pain in the ass to recover and restock
The overnight girl was back so my area was recovered! Even the NikeShitë! Even though she did them... all wrong... like infuriatingly wrong...
But I didn't have time to deal with that shit anyway bc my endcap took all fucking day
And then I had to cram like 6 boxes under NewLady's table bc I have NO ROOM at all and I actually put shit behind shit unlike her who only puts one row of boxes so it LOOKS like shes full but shes not. Cram that shit bitch. Anyway she's gonna have to deal bc we have the same number of items just different VOLUMES of it like 30 items per section is normal, but say I get ~200 stock and she gets ~900 stock per item. She can put shit in the steel or under her FOUR GIANT TABLES I get one. Just one. So fuck you it's called working with other people and being a team. I didnt say shit all the times NetflixCoworker needed to put shit in my table space when I actually had room.
From what I've seen, the new leggings are kinda cute. The Sharter's stuff is like "cute strawberry and cherry outfit" (too cute), "pretty blue outfit", "UGLIEST FUCKING FLORAL YOUVE EVER SEEN outfit" like 😭 every goddamn time they throw one ugly floral like come on... no one wants these stop...
#marquilla#'oh im sure this will be trendy' and it's a pattern that hurts your eyes and would look god awful on anyone let alone a child#and i dont mean like it's so ugly i love it. i mean it's just trash heap leftover 60s hippie pattern but not like a groovy one i mean#grandmas couch in/from the 70s florals#every time! every goddamn time! it's almost always mustard yellow heavy too like jfc stop#work talk#i was gonna go to the movies for discount movie day but fuck im so tired man i don't have it in me#id LIKE to go especially since i have a coupon that would discount it even more but blegh im gonna shower

Would you like to really like collect more and more shoes however the sole thing stopping you is your own cash? Very well, shoes out of big manufacturers do not appear cheap now - especially supposing it is actually just a collector's item. Hence, if you are an creative fan, then produce your own custom sneakers, anything private to telephone your own personal. Additionally, who knows, you'll be able to build it around be shoe kingdom just like Nike.Shoes, simply like your clothes supply a window into your nature and lifestyle. Maintaining your sneakers talk out on yourself, they're a means of expressing yourself, just enjoy any other art. You can either perform the customization yourself, or even get the aid of several services that provide the art of scrutinizing your own shoes. You are able to opted to customize your sneakers ranging from selecting custom made colours and cloths, to presenting artwork painted onto a pair of classic shoes. The craft of imitating shoes have attracted a reach of artists to the foray-those who appreciate designing and have a fad for sneakers. Moreover, the craze for sneakers don't just apply to girls, adult guys of are time consuming a fetish for sneakers too ranging from shoes to lace to loafers. The top from the art of imitating shoes is acquiring them painted. A few web site stipulates this provider and they allow you to choose images from their gallery or you can work with them to come up with some personalized art that demonstrates you. Besides painting on footwear they even splash color on matters like totes, jackets, as well as other apparel item.Customizing bags, shoes and different substances you could think of is a great gift idea. Envision giving your companion or boyfriend/girlfriend a bag or pair shoes that signifies them. Christmas is around the corner so this could eventually be convenient for you as a gift idea.Realizing this sudden boom at the craft of scrutinizing shoes, even many prominent manufacturers have all but jumped into the bandwagon of personalization. If you aren't feeling adventuresome at the clothing section, but want trendy looking shoes to satisfy your feet in, then you may have a look at some of the many huge player brands who've jumped on the lace band-wagon. Clearly, you think Nike, the king of sneakers and sports apparel will not fall within this group? Of course they do! Nike has its own own field of customization artwork found in Nike ID. Nike allows you to personalize a large number of all Nike footwear styles like the Air Force 1, Shox, Air Max, Air Zoom, as well as some other types of basketball, football, jogging and overall athletic shoes. Pick your colours for everything from your"Nike Swoosh" to the laces and you may add your own name! How cool is that? Evidently, the art of personalization was accepted to some completely new level. My beloved, and also predictably most expensive, basketball shoes ever had been a set of Allen Iverson's The Answer III. The main reason I loved it so much was the cushioning. It felt just like I was running on pillows. I felt as I raced faster, jumped increased, and eventually become tougher. I threw my own body into traffic, driving into the lane to obtain lay ups. While I place those sneakers , I felt just like I had been Iverson.I bring up this because about a week ago, my present basketball footwear began off to give me blisters. The pillow came where the arch of my feet satisfied the shoe. Because my feet are obnoxiously level, my foot was basically rubbing against rubber. That caused B-listers overly painful to manage. Trying to play with the pain, I started initially to over compensate my step by landing exclusively on the blade of the personal foot. This began to harm my legs and shins. I couldn't run, '' I could not leap, also I couldn't maintain up on shield. Following failed experiments with shortness, I chose to obtain new basketball sneakers. This clearly is not the first pair of basketball sneakers but since I want to maximize my limited basketball skills, I figured I would do my own research first. So how can I buy good basket-ball sneakers? When you head into the store, the first thing that you notice is how the shoes look. Idon't need to inform you that you should get footwear that you just think look good. The subsequent point you will likely consider is that the purchase. This could be one of the most significant factor you consider when deciding whether or not to obtain the shoes rather than. You really don't want to splurge on shoe, but at the same period you want the very best sneakers you are able to spend. While well-known tips of coupons and sales employ, remember athletic merchants are not your sole choice. Department stores, discount stores, and also other clothing stores have sporting shoes in stock. I finished up acquiring LeBron's Soldier II in Nordstom Rack for 50 percent away retail. Finally, you take off a shoe off the rack, so ask the shoes out of your sales man, also try one. There really are a handful different facets of the shoe to think about. In the event you would like to an even far more in depth look in different attributes read but in summary: make sure there are enough cushioning on the floor and sides and make sure your foot will not slide around within the shoe should you lace them up. That is really all you need from your own shoes. The very first action to do is to consider the sort of player you're. The majority of us are not adequate to notice the subtle differences amongst a shoe constructed to get a player and also a shoe designed for a quick player but, it's still very great possess an understanding of you need to be searching for in a more shoe. For electricity players (forward and centers), it's important for the shoe to become well cushioned and to your own shoe to lock the foot in to the shoe - stabilizing the foot therefore it will not slip around within the shoe. These functions include mass and weight into the shoe - that can be the reason they are more suitable for larger, slower players.Fast players (guards) will want lighter shoes that tend to be more flexible. The drawback to versatility will be you'll give up support. Giving up a small service makes the shoe more comfortable and much more flexible allowing faster, sharper cuts.As for instance, Hyperdunks consider in at an incredibly gentle 16.6 oz whilst LeBron's Soldier II weighs in at huge 21.6 ounces. Whether you're a slashing player or a very low pole player, keep the weight and bulk of the shoes at your mind as they can indicate the strengths of their shoe. A thick shoe supplies more support and cushioning while a mild shoe delivers far much additional flexibility.Of program, you'll find sneakers between the two of these extremes, therefore that it's fantastic to know exactly what you would like from the shoe to find the optimal/optimally fit. Now, the more traditional basketball footwear really are high tops, however that's slowly changing. Kobe built waves putting out low shirts this past year, however, the ordinary participant will desire high shirts as they provide ankle support that is needed. Again, even low shirts present greater versatility and range of movement than high shirts, so if you are willing to forfeit just a tiny support, provide low shirts a go. Kobe did.An crucial and dominant layout alternative is the way the shoes lace upward. Many shoes have directly laces. Other individuals use some combination of straps, zippers and laces to ensure the foot in the shoe. Straight laces have functioned as the birth of sneakers and shoes are perfectly good enough, but try out some straps and zippers in the event that you would like. You would just like to make sure your foot is not slipping around as you go around - specially once you move facet to side.Another major caliber of a basketball shoe is it is cushioning. I don't will need to tell you that the shoe needs to be cozy. Great shoes is likely to ensure it is feel as if you are walking on pillows. Nothing elaborate here. If you believe it's fine, it is fine. In the event you believe that it's bad, it's bad. Finally, there's the out sole - at that the base of the the shoe. Try about the shoe see just how good your shoe handles the bottom. If you play out a lot, look for thicker, more durable out slopes because they'll endure longer. Again, your intuition is just a superb estimate. In the event you believe it's fine, it is. Otherwise, it just isn't. All these are different information you are able to consider for example airflow (is it comfortable for you to receive air while inside the shoe) And heel to toe transition (just how can the shoe feel when you travel from heel to toe? ) ) But do not get overly caught up in the particulars. When you try out the shoes, try out some side to side movements and be certain the shoes really are comfortable. In the event you don't feel overly ashamed, consider leaping and down only just a little. These will be the big moves you make on the basketball court and also you also want to simulate in what way the shoes texture as if you're playing with. If that which seems very good, they truly are going to be very great shoes.Lastly, don't dismiss the psychological factor of sporting your favourite player's footwear. Like I mentioned at the intro, playing with in Iverson's shoes left me really feel such as Iverson. Even as you get old, absolutely nothing motivates you to perform such as placing the shoes of your favourite player and faking you are him (or her).Just remember that the player's touch shoes are specially designed for that participant. Kobe's sneakers have been developed for Kobe. LeBron's sneakers have been developed for LeBron. Thus, should you play with just like one of these guys, their shoes will suit your drama style. No thing exactly what the match, however your home is, the shoes you select will be to give you the comfort and style you deserve. Not any sneaker will really do. Design, color and a great look are unquestionably important elements of the selection procedure but performance is crucial too. The substances used from the sneakers are paramount to your comfort and your achievement if you are a runner, even a golfer or maybe only a kid.The upper aspect of the sneaker is your part which grabs folks' eyes. This can be where the fearless layouts, shoe laces and bright colors combine to attract the remaining part of the shoe with each other. Uppers are made of three primary substances: canvas, mesh and leather. That cloth is preferred pertains for the purpose of the shoe. For example, a shoe that is running need to offer support and airflow. As the name suggests, the midsole is at the exact center of this shoe. It is here now that support and protection are given for your own feet. Some of those greatest shoes make use of a mix of standard materials such as Phylon, polyurethane, Phylite, and EVA. The attributes each content provides include value to this sneaker. Phylon is lightweight whereas polyurethane has become the most sturdy material. Phylite can be just really a combination of rubber and Phylon that's milder compared to solid rubberized although heavier compared to Phylon. It may be utilised to earn a one-piece midsole and outsole. This dramatically reduces the burden of their shoe. EVA may be your cheapest material available for mid-soles. It is light weight, flexible and soft. This is the portion of the shoe where the rubber meets the pavement, so to speak. It is your foot first field of defense versus the earth, sidewalk or basketball court. The sneaker substance utilised this is a type of rubber. Five unique types are most frequently used: gum , Duralon, long lasting plastic substance, carbon rubber or solid rubber. To receive new details on this please see this official statement. Gum rubber comes with a distinguishing tan coloration and is a synthetic and natural rubber mixture. It supplies great traction on indoor surfaces such as basketball and volleyball courts however is perhaps not encouraged for exterior surfaces.Duralon can be a blown synthetic rubber that features air pockets and a soft pillow, typically for the area in the leading part of the foot. It's commonly found in conducting shoes.Durable rubber substance carries strong rubber and also comprises additives that offer it extra durability. It's a hard finish and is suitable for tough, outdoor surfaces.Carbon rubber joins pure rubber together with carbon dioxide to create a durable outsole chiefly utilised in conducting shoes.Solid rubber is a blend of both synthetic and natural rubbers which provide exceptional durability and traction nevertheless is still maybe not as great on demanding exterior surfaces. If you decide on sneakers make certain you have the best possible materials and functionality along with a pleasing design and style and style. It is famous that so as to direct a healthy lifetime, you have to practice one or even sports over a regular foundation. Yet, what isn't stressed nowadays is the demand for having proper gear when experiencing one or another sort of action. That is what contributes to numerous injuries that will ultimately allow men and women run away from sports. One among the absolute most important pieces from the apparatus may be the sports sneakers. They protect the feet and make them feel at ease throughout the full practicing period. Yet, regardless of these great significance, many individuals are inclined to neglect them and decide on all those typo of sneakers comes to their own hand , without pondering if these shoes are proper for them (or to your own game they'll experience ) or not. What individuals don't know is how indoor athletic shoes (utilized at the gyms) and outside athletics shoes really are very different and they need to never purchase fitness shoes and also walk outdoors with them. This is principally as the rubber from the soles of in door shoes is much more durable plus also they will probably get ruined in a short length of time.On the other hand, that the outdoor shoes tend to be somewhat more rigid, therefore they are not suggested for fitness moves or indoor immersion. Still another thing that gets ignored with many people purchasing athletics shoes is really there are various designs for different sportsbetting. So there are basketball sneakers, fitness footwear, sneakers or walking sneakers, every single one having its features adjusted accordingly that they would best serve the wearer. Perhaps not carrying this to account might result in uncomfortable moments for your feet and possibly even blisters and open wounds. You may well not believe that inappropriate shoes could do that, nevertheless they could in fact do even worst. Knee or back pain as well as tendinitis or alternative muscle conditions can result from the erroneously picked pair sports shoes. When you've found the perfect type of footwear for the activity, be certain they also match snugly onto your feet! The lace closure must be matched, the soles have to be correctly reinforced and also the fabric should be comfy enough to stay long time in them. For exterior sports that require lots of motion, so make certain that they're also rather effectively ventilated with lots of cushioning. This will prevent the feet from perspiration and attain a wonderful fever inside.

College. It’s a lot to handle, especially if you’re completely new to the whole thing. First, it’s hard to adjust to classes and the academic rigor of college, and adding an additional ten or so stressors of “adulting” makes it a whole lot harder to control. So, to help everyone not struggle and not be as confused as I was, I collected a few websites and apps that I liked to use and I found super helpful!
Note: All of websites that I linked below are free to use! There are some websites that have additional benefits that may cost money, but otherwise all of the apps and websites I listed here are 100% free! (because every college student needs a little help financially).
Academic: Work, Work, Work, Work, Work, Work -Rihanna (My Queen)
1. RateMyProfessor: Every college student’s best friend. This website allows students at your college/university rate a professor on different things, like difficulty, interest, etc. Don’t let this be the end all be all though for choosing a class. Get to know more about the professor from other people on campus, as everyone has a different opinion on a professor. You never know who you might end up liking as a professor, so get to know what you like and who they are.
2. Dropbox: Basically like an online flash drive if you don’t feel like taking around a flash drive. Super helpful in storing stuff and makes it a whole lot easier to move from one device to another.
3. Google Drive: If you don’t like Dropbox, Google Drive can also work in this way, and more. Google Drive is super helpful, especially when you need to work on group projects, etc. in college, since you and your group can work on a document together. Sometimes I used Google Drive to make a giant study guide that me and my friends all contributed to before an exam, and it was a great way to review/study together and get a feel of how they interpret different things we learned in lecture.
4. PurdueOwl: Got a paper to write? No matter what you write in college, or in any field, make sure you cite all your material! It is SUPER IMPORTANT to make sure you cite everything and anything you use. There are a ton of websites that do it for you, but I like using PurdueOwl as a guide to making my own citations because a lot of the other websites mess up on citations. The guide allows you to cite in different things like MLA, APA, etc. Overall, its pretty cool and I recommend using it :)
5. Google Scholar: If you need to find peer-reviewed, journal articles (i.e. especially for research papers), Google Scholar is a great place to start and find different sources, and even help you branch off and find other places to find journal articles
6. WordCounter: I think there’s a word counter on Word too, but I use this website to get a feel on other things, like the words that I may use too often during papers, etc. I think its helpful for an initial review of your word count.
7. HemmingWayApp: If you want to improve your paper on different things like sentence structure, readability, etc. I really love using this to improve my writing!
8. PaperRater: This website allows you to basically grade your paper on a general scale. This might not be super accurate, but I like using it to get a general idea on my paper. I mainly use it on its other features, like checking my spelling, grammar, and word/sentence structure strength.
9. Grammarly: Speaking of grammar, this website (it is also a google chrome/other internet browser extension) checks your grammar and strength for papers. Not only are you able to check papers, with the extension, you’re able to check your grammar and sentence/word strength as you write different things on your browser, like on emails to your professor (which is really important). I haven’t used it a ton, but I heard a ton of great reviews from people and a lot of people I know recommend it, so I thought I would include it here!
10. Khan Academy: Literally every college student’s savior. If you haven’t heard of Khan Academy by now, it is a great website to help when you’re having difficulty learning a certain topic, or if you just want some more reinforcement while you study. It’s free, so I highly recommend.
11. TEDEd: This is an amazing website that I absolutely love using (It is also a youtube channel!). It is not only super helpful in learning information for classes, but also really useful for learning new things too. I also recommend Ted Talks (they are good for the soul!) YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/TEDEducation
12. Youtube: Even though Youtube may seem like something just for entertainment, there are parts of Youtube that are really helpful in learning and studying for exams and classes. Not only can you use it to learn and study, but also researching and planning things for the future, like preparation for job interviews, internships, etc. I am a Behavioral Neuroscience major (which is basically a Neuroscience major), so I have more background with science, so I recommend Crash Course for a basic overview of things, Bozeman for a more in depth science review (I used it for Biology), Tyler Dewitt for Chem review, Sci Show for general science information, and for everyone, I recommend Ted-Ed/Ted Talks. There are also a ton of college youtubers/youtube channels, so I recommend watching them for advice as well!
13. Duolingo: Whether you are studying for a class/exam or just want to learn a language for fun, Duolingo is a great way to get started. I remember watching a great Ted Talk on learning languages, so this is a great starting point to learning. Of course, if you really want to learn a language, getting first hand exposure is the best way in my experience.
14. Quizlet: For all of you flashcard users, this is, of course, a great website to make your own! I personally don’t use flashcards often, but if they work for you, I recommend using this, since its fast and also utilizes the real reason why flashcards work, which is the fact that you write your own (because writing your own flashcards actually makes the information stay in your brain!).
Networking: “Hi My Name is…”
1. WayUp: This website allows you to find jobs, internships, externships, etc. that are in your area. Personally, I haven’t used it yet, but I know a lot of people recommend using this to find internships and jobs to get connections and to set yourself up professionally.
2. LinkedIn: Another website to build yourself professionally (this website is more similar to an online resume rather than a website to find jobs and internships)
Books: Stacks on Stacks on Stacks (of Textbooks, R.I.P.)
1. BigWords: I really like this website to look at first before I rent or buy my textbooks (I mainly rent). This is a great website to use, since it shows all the different websites and the different prices for that specific book you are looking for. A lot of people also use Slugbooks, but I like to use this website (its more of what your preference is, both of these websites are very good and I have heard good reviews for both).
2. Amazon: Most of you know about Amazon, but I wanted to include it here because I actually rented most of my textbooks from Amazon. I found it to be the best option and I always had a good experience with it. PLUS, if you don’t know, as a student, you get a free 6 month trial of Amazon Prime!. Go Two Day Shipping for 6 months (and its free, take advantage of those discounts while you still have them!)
Financial Aid: The Ultimate How-To
There are a ton of websites that are essential to financial aid and figuring out how financial aid/paying for college works. If you are a little confused on financial aid, I also made a post about that here, or if you are confused on different terms associated with financial aid or college in general, I suggest clicking here. Financial Aid is a little confusing and scary, but knowing a little more and knowing what websites to use goes a long way.
1. FAFSA: This is the website where you apply for federal financial aid. Make sure, if you don’t click on the link here and you google it, it says “.gov” because that is the official website. FAFSA is a free application, so if they even ask for money at the end of the application, its not the real thing.
2. CSS Profile: This link allows you to apply for institutional financial aid if your school provides or requires it. Click here to check what colleges/universities accept the CSS Profile.
3. Net Price Calculator: Here, depending on what school you attend, you are able to calculate the total cost of attendance for your college/university
Discounts: Money, Money, Money!
Note: the websites listed here are just websites to use for things like online shopping. However, there are many stores that, when you show your student ID (ex: Apple), you get a ton of discounts, so I recommend looking up different stores that do just that!
1. UniDays: This website has a ton of discounts on different things such as clothes, technology, etc. It is more geared towards online shopping, since the discounts/coupons typically have codes to use, so if you online shop quite often, I recommend this website!
2. StudentRate: Another website with discounts for online shoppers. However, unlike the UniDays website, you can use the discounts in store as well. I personally haven’t used this, but once again, I heard great things about this website and plan on using it soon!
Managing Finances: Check Yo Self!
1. Mint: This is a website/app that I use often! This app allows you to add cards, bank accounts, etc. in order to look and manage your account. This app also lets you budget out your money for different expenses, which I highly recommend doing. Money is important and it is also something that can go away like that if you don’t watch and budget it carefully. Therefore, I really recommend using an app to help you do this.
2. Venmo: This app lets you transfer money to different people, whether you owe money to someone else and are giving it back or you are getting money as well. From my experience, a lot of people use Venmo in college because it is easier to transfer money from person to person, whenever you owe someone money. I have used it before and it is good to use.
Lifestyle: It’s A Balancing Act!
1. Shoptagr: This is your typical shopping website where you can add items that you like and also keeps track/notifies you when an item is back in stock. This is also an internet extension.
2. KeepMeOut: This is a website where you are able to enter a website that may be distracting and then notifies you when you are on that website for too long in order for you to get back to work! I haven’t used this yet, but I look forward to trying it and have heard some pretty good things about it.
3. Sleepy.ti: Calculate what time you need to go to sleep by entering in the time that you want to wake up! (works by tracking the REM cycle in order to find the best time to go to bed! Sleep is important guys, don’t take it for granted!)
4. Google Calendar: Helps to keep track of things you need to do hour by hour. Time is HUGE as a college student, so taking the time to schedule things, remembering meetings, etc. will help in the long run!
5. GroupMe: Group messaging app that is often used on campus for different things like clubs, residence halls, etc. Getting the app is useful and I recommend using it for different groups you may be in while on campus.
6. Spotify: I’m pretty sure everyone has heard of Spotify, but I just wanted to add this onto the list because I use it often to listen to music. PLUS, there’s a discount for students if you guys want Spotify Premium. Either way, I recommend using Spotify to listen and to destress whenever needed.
7. GoodReads: I’m an old soul who loves to read books, and GoodReads has always been there for me to keep track of the books that I am reading as well as help me find different books that I may be interested in.

The 10 Best Marketing Strategies to Reach College Students
One of the best purchases I ever made was signing up for Spotify Premium in college. I even remember when it happened, in March 2014. I had just signed a job offer for after graduation and Spotify released premium pricing for students. It was beautifully serendipitous and we’ve been in a committed, monthly-fee relationship everx since. In fact, now I pay for a family plan and have gotten all my family members (and maybe some roommates) hooked on it.
Moral of the story: if you market to college students early, they can become your most loyal customers. Look at Apple! The shiny-fruit company consistently gives discounts to college students, creating lifelong Mac users.
If you’re not completely convinced that college students are a valuable market, here are some stats before we dive in…
Why market to college students?
College students are a huge demographic in the US, consisting mostly of 18 to 24-year-olds. These young adults have spending power: the 15M group spends more than $200B annually. Not only are they age-stable, but they also are geographically stagnant for 4-5 years. That means you have a lot of time to develop branding and marketing specific to this group to see what will really stick.
While this is most likely already living in the back of your mind, Gen Z is the tech-native generation. They are constantly online (especially during quarantine), consuming content, shopping, and engaging with peers. And they’re cleverer than previous generations when it comes to advertising: almost 70% of Gen Zers use ad blockers. But don’t despair; if you do get through to these college students, 94% said an exclusive offer would get them to shop at a brand more frequently. Here are our best tips for reaching college students through the power of marketing.
10 effective ways to market to college students
1. Leverage trials and samples
Let’s just address the elephant in the room outright: college kids love free stuff. I can’t tell you the number of events I attended in college because they offered free food. What better way to hook some long-term loyal customers than offering your product for free?
There are a few ways you can actually get your free samples or trials in front of your audience; try coordinating with residence life to have a move-in kit available for the fall semester or sponsored study break during midterms or finals. If you’re a food service on Seamless, GrubHub, or DoorDash, you can offer a discount for first-time diners; once they get a taste, they’ll keep coming back for more.
2. Offer targeted discounts
Just like personalized ads, discounts specific to your audience are a great way to engage them. Everyone wants to think that their school is the best—what better way to reinforce that than advertising “For a limited time, Villanova students get free fries with every cheeseburger.”
If you want an easier, more direct way to get feet in the door (or online orders), offer discounts if a student provides their student ID at the time of purchase. You can often get those types of deals listed in a coupon catalog handed out in Student Unions or in Move-In Day packets. Free advertising for all!
3. Write clever copy
Have you hung out with college kids recently? If you haven’t, you’re missing out. I truly learn new words every time I’m around the youths. Since college came into existence, kids have been creating their own lingo for academia and partying (and I’m really trying to make “groovy” come back into style).
While I wouldn’t recommend trying *too* hard to speak their language, catching students’ eyes with clever marketing and ad copy is a must. Whatever you do, don’t be lame. Not sure where to start? Here are some tips for writing creative copy that may help.
4. Mind your social accounts
If you’ve run social ads before, you probably already know that it is a great way to reach Millennials and Zillennials. When it comes to marketing to college students, make sure you’re leveraging those platforms; even if you don’t have the budget to spend on ad campaigns.
There are easy ways to engage college students on social media.
Leverage user-generated content; encourage your customers to tag your products in their posts so you can easily re-post.
Spend time liking and commenting on related posts; this will help the algorithms show your account to more potential customers.
Announce new products or releases on your social accounts; if you’re a big, national brand, think about making an account specifically for the college crowd you’re serving, e.g. “VillanovaDominos” or “MaybellinePHL.”
5. Try out traditional tactics
Don’t worry about going old school when it comes to advertising. College kids are still pinning coupons to their fridge or digging them out when it’s time to order food. Think about sponsoring on-campus events, or having an on-campus pop-up shop in the middle of the main through-way to get the most out of student foot traffic.
I can’t tell you the number of coupons just like this that were stacked in my kitchen drawer in my college apartment. They came in handy when we didn’t want to go grocery shopping or cook, but still needed to stick to a college kid budget!
6. Host a giveaway, raffle, or competition
If you’re trying to build up your social following or your email listserv, or simply get a lot of students engaged with your business, host a giveaway. You’ll need to make it tempting enough for college students to actually give away their information and/or money to win. That could be a Sonos speaker system to boost the music at parties, covering the cost of a parking pass on campus, offering a lifetime of free sides (french fries forever!), naming a product after them, the list goes on and on.
You can also pay into the competitive nature of college kids! Just like emphasizing exclusive discounts for colleges, if you have more than one university in your area, make a little friendly competition like this 5K did.
7. Engage student ambassadors
Pay attention to the students who are loyal patrons of your business. Whether that means engaging with them in your store or restaurant or keeping track of recurring orders online, make sure you’re acknowledging their loyalty. Think of your student ambassadors as nano-influencers.
Make some ambassador kits, including simple pieces of swag like a t-shirt, bottle opener, water bottle, etc. and arm them with materials to give away to their peers. This can work best if they get referral discounts themselves!
While not college-student-specific, Aerie is great at leveraging user generated content on their social accounts. They are regularly #regram-ing content from their customers—which just makes it easier to fill your social calendar!
8. Consider social causes
I was in college during KONY 2012. What a movement. And let me tell you, everyone was talking about it. I mean professors, students, residential life, school administrators, food service employees, and more. It was the social justice cause of the year.
By nature, college students are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to save the world. And this generation in particular is invested in social justice. Reflect on an issue that affects the community your business is in. Not only will it make the world a better place to have another contribution to the plastic-free or BLM fight, but students will also be more inclined to give your brand a second look if their money is also going to a cause they believe in.
9. Look for college media sources
Meet college students where they are and with what they’re consuming. Most likely, the students you’re targeting have a student-lead newspaper, weekly newsletters, or even a popular online student forum or app. Reach out to those publications to sponsor a post or display ad.
SImilar to reaching out to student ambassadors, look for student-run social media accounts to offer sponsored posts. Most schools will have an instagram account for their mascots or an “overheard at *school name*”. ICYMI, TikTok is taking over the world; reach out to student organizations (believe me, the dance team definitely has a TikTok account) and ask to be featured in a video.
10. Influence their parents
In the instance that your price point is a little too steep for the average college kid, target their parents. The best time to do this? Move-in day and parents weekend. Yes, this gets a bit complicated during, say, a pandemic scenario. But it’s not impossible! Do not underestimate the tenacity of college kids to bribe a buck out of their loving parents.
If you’re looking for ways to get to parents, think about care packages! Emphasize how your product will help their child slay their midterms, finals, job interviews, presentations, you name it. Or maybe it will help them stay healthy, or make their tiny college dorm feel like home (my mother bought me *many* happy lights to make it through the winter).
If you’ve seen success marketing to college students, we want to see it! Even better, if you became brand-loyal to a business that targeted you as a student, tell us what got you!

The first trophy of the season is up for grabs on Sunday Chelsea and Manchester City meet in the League Cup final with Pep Guardiola & # 39; s side , still in four competitions, very favorites.
Chelsea fans have not had much to laugh about with 6-0 hammering through City, fresh in the memory and Friday's news about a two-window transfer ban that overshadowed the build -up to Wembley. Blues boss Maurizio Sarri will probably be glad that he will not be in the summer …
Elsewhere, Manchester United organizes Liverpool's old enemies in the Premier League game of the weekend and there is plenty to get stuck in Old Trafford and on the property.
Here is our guide to gambling per game to Saturday and Sunday.
Chelsea v Man City – Final EFL Cup – Sunday 4.30 pm
Maurizio Sarri knows all too well what Manchester City can do because he only saw his Chelsea team destroy two weeks ago . The 6-0 defeat pushed him closer to the exit at Stamford Bridge and again hammering on that scale (175/1 for anyone who believes that lightning strikes twice) would almost certainly take him out of his misery. But at Wembley and for a cup (the easiest of the four City chases still) 6-0 & # 39; s not often come together. Correct score-backers would do better to take the 12/1 for a 3-0 City victory or the same price as 3-1. City is just too good, especially with Chelsea-slayer Sergio Aguero (13 goals in 16 games against them, including a hat-trick two weeks ago) in their line-up. They have speeded up after late goals in Germany had the Champions League draw with Schalke in their favor and while Sarri's side also won in Europe against Malmo, the gap between these two is too big. City is no better than 4/7 to win in 90 minutes, 6/4 to win HT and FT while Chelsea is 5/1 with a few bookmakers to win in the normal time. Raheem Sterling scored the late winner in Germany and Leroy Sane's superb free-kick stole the headlines, but Aguero's bet in that bout was his 10th in his last seven outings and 24th of the season. I can not be ignored and is 18/5 for the opener or 11/2 to score two or more.
Sergio Aguero has 10 goals in his last seven matches for Manchester City
Man United against Liverpool – Sunday 14:05
Liverpool played a big part in the Obtain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job, but do not expect the interim manager of Manchester United to give back any favors. Solskjaer is determined to extend the fine run that United has experienced since taking the lead after Jose Mourinho's resignation after the 3-1 victory for Liverpool when these two fierce rivals met in December. Eleven wins and draws 12 domestic matches (they lost PSG in the Champions League) and United are back in the top four, while looking forward to a FA Cup quarter final against Wolves next month. They still follow Liverpool with 14 points, have scored less and have admitted much more (35-15), but there is a strong argument for United to make a huge dent in Jurgen Klopps hope for the title. United has admitted in 11 of the 12 home games while Liverpool is one of only three teams (along with United and Spurs) to score in each away match. But all their best work was done before the turn of the year and in 2019 their goal-per-game average took a dip of 2.88 in the same amount of games to finish 2018 to 1.5. Four away games this year in all competitions yielded only one win, a draw at West Ham plus defeats at Man City and Wolves. It is the biggest game of the weekend (do not tell Chelsea and City fans to Wembley) and we would like to see the classic, but United Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial race to be fit plus Liverpool still defend Virgil van Dijk with a tight ship driving, could go into this. Less than 2.5 goals are 6/5, while United to win with a goal margin is 39/10 or you can get 10/3 United-win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1. For the victory alone United are slightly better than 2/1 at most bookmakers, Liverpool is 7/5 with the draw 5/2.
Paul Pogba found himself in excellent shape during the recent season of Manchester United Burnley are bobbing around but the water is about to go this weekend Choppier, because they are looking for the second longest unbeaten run in the Premier League. Because they were pounded by Everton on Boxed Day, the Clarets have not lost in seven and only Manchester United (nine games) are on a longer term without defeat. Burnley earned a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford during that series, but now it's bad news. That was only the second point that they have taken home from the 42 against the big six since they beat Liverpool almost three years ago. You also have Spurs that hit much higher levels than at home in Wembley and on a winning run with four matches in all competitions. And all this without Harry Kane, who may have just returned for this. He is fit again after he has received full training after an ankle injury after an ankle injury and is on his way to the first scorer, scorer and scoring win twice. Mauricio Pochettino may decide to start him on the bench and if he is worth the last 10/3 scoring opportunities, it is worth looking at. A Tottenham win is no better than 8/11, but you can get 11/4 by winning one goal margin. For a bigger price, what about Christian Eriksen to score from outside the box. Spurs scored a league-high 12 times from outside the area, while Burnley led the league in allowing distance (12 goals). You can get the Dane in that market around 15/2.
Bournemouth v Wolves – Saturday fifteen
the past few weeks – home and away – and supporters will be glad that they are back in the Vitality Stage. In their five league games since losing to Brighton in the FA Cup, they defeated Chelsea 4-0 and West Ham 2-0 on the south coast, but lost them in Everton, Cardiff and Liverpool, leaking seven goals without responding. Bristol City in the FA Cup, wrestled in Shrewsbury in the previous round, before winning at Everton in the Wolves competition were not so bad on their travels, but needed a final sobriety to come by. The Cherries are 19/10 to win, while Wolves, six points and four places are better off, in the seventh, are 17/10. It is not just the beard-caressing football hipsters that.
Newcastle against Huddersfield – Saturday fifteen
It is not just the beard-striking football hipsters who could tell you things about SPAL, Huesca or Guingamp. Fun fact # 1 – they are doing better than Huddersfield this season (note – there are no more nice facts). The Terriers scored the least goals (14) and lost the most league games (19) of all 98 clubs in the top five European competitions. Even Newcastle can not raise this. The side of Rafa Benitez, who for the first time in almost a year for the first time to win a third consecutive home game, evens with several bookies or 2/1, again with several companies, to win at rest and full time
Leicester v Crystal Palace – Saturday 5.30 pm
Crystal Palace did not jump off the discount coupons as an obvious choice, but with the offer of 10/27 they left Leicester with maximum points appeal after a closer look on the statistics. Palace has won the last three meetings with a total score of 9-0, including a 3-0 on the King Power last season. Roy Hodgson enjoys an unbeaten series of five games (three wins, two draws) since mid-January and you have to go one step further for the last time that Leicester registered with win – at Everton on New Year's Day. and their situation is not helped by Jamie Vardy who still does not remember how to score for his own fans. December 1 was the last time I achieved a home goal. Arsenal v Southampton – Sunday 2.05 am
It seems centuries ago that Arsenal won the victories for fun and while it would be misleading to compare their recent run with everything as exciting as a roller coaster, they are up and down, from game to game from success to failure. Blackpool, Chelsea, Cardiff and Huddersfield have been captured, but each won by a defeat – in the hands of West Ham, Man United, Man City and BATE Borisov. She then defeated the Belarusians to win a place in the last 16 of the Europa League. On Sundays they face each other, the Saints are unbeaten in their last five games away from home (four of them in the competition) and won the reverse competition in St. Mary's in December. Both teams score well in the Emirates Stadium and with Arsenal with Alexandre Lacazette back after the ban they get the cut. They are 2/1 to win with both scoring teams.
DRAWS : Bournemouth v Wolves, West Brom v Sheffield United AWAYS : Tottenham, Palace, Dundee United, Clyde 22/1 Bet Victor [MillwallvPreston36/1bet365
[E-mail this to a friend] Both teams score in the first half

These 3 Figure-Flattering Dress Styles Are Perfect For Mature Women
This post is sponsored by thredUP. As always, all opinions and ideas are entirely my own.
’Tis the season of holiday parties! For the most part, I love holiday parties because it’s a great chance to catch up with family, friends, or colleagues. But holiday parties can also be a bit stressful, because for each one I have to decide what I’m going wear! (Cue the decision paralysis!)
Holiday parties are a great opportunity to throw on a pretty dress, but the tricky part is deciding what kind of dress to wear! There are a lot of factors worth considering, like color, price, length, etc. But for “mature women” like myself, it makes the most sense to first consider the shape or style of the dress. Because finding a dress that flatters your particular body type is the key to looking truly fabulous!
So for the benefit of all my older gal pals out there, I thought it would be fun to explore a few dress styles today! I’ll give you the scoop on 3 classic dress styles that are perfect for holiday parties. You’ll also learn which dresses may or may not flatter your particular body type, so you can look your very best! After reading this post, you’ll know exactly what to look for when choosing a dress for your upcoming holiday gatherings! :-)
3 Figure-Flattering Party Dresses For Mature Women
Whenever I have a fashion quandary, I start by turning to thredUP. It’s the largest online secondhand clothing store, and the best place to find brand name styles for up to 90% off original retail prices! Being able to shop secondhand on thredUP is especially nice for special occasions like holiday parties. Because while I do want to look my best, I don’t want to blow a whole paycheck on one outfit for one night!
I found all of the outfits shown below on thredUP, and saved a small fortune on my holiday party looks! (And speaking of savings… find out how to save an extra 30% from thredUP at the end of this post!)
1. The Sheath Dress
The sheath dress is a long, lean, body-hugging style that enhances your curves and defines your waist. It is sleek, classy, and works for nearly any occasion! Michelle Obama is well-known for frequently sporting sophisticated sheath dresses.
I bought this red sheath dress by Koret on thredUP for just $27.99, a 76% discount off the estimated retail price of $119! I paired this dress with other thredUP finds, including a black Andria Lieu shrug (bought for $17.99; 50% off the est. retail price of $36). I finished off the look with a festive pair of green velvet shoes by ELOQUII (bought for $45.99; 61% off the est. retail price of $119.) I love how this outfit came together! And while I might not pull it off as well as Michelle Obama, this sheath dress made me feel sophisticated and party-ready!
Choose a sheath dress if…
you have an hourglass figure. This dress will really show it off!
you have a straight or thick waist. A sheath dress can help define and enhance your waist.
Sheath dresses can be tricky if…
you have unique body proportions.
you have a large tummy.
2. The Shift Dress
It’s easy to get “shift” confused with “sheath” when it comes to dresses, but they couldn’t be more different from each other! Shift dresses hang loosely from the shoulders and fall straight down to the knee area. These dresses can have a variety of sleeve types and necklines, and they give off a casual, relaxed vibe. A loose shift dress can be great for covering areas of concern around your waist or hips!
I found this white shift dress by Halogen on thredUP too! I paid just $28.99 for it, a 69% discount off the est. retail price of $95! To complete my “party look,” I decided to stick with a classic black-and-white color scheme. I paired my white dress with a black crocheted shrug by Dolce Cabo, which was probably the best deal I managed to snag! I paid $37.99 for it, which works out to an 80% discount off the est. retail price of $190 (oh my!) And finally, I added a pair of Franco Sarto metallic heels to round out the outfit (bought for $28.99; 76% off the est. retail price of $119.)
My favorite part of this shift dress outfit was how comfortable the dress itself was! I could easily wear this dress all day and not feel the need to change into something comfier. (I can’t say the same for the heels, but on the other hand, I’ve never been able to say that about any pair of heels!) :-)
Choose a shift dress if…
you have a boyish, rectangular shape.
you’d like to de-emphasize your midsection, hips, or thighs.
Shift dresses can be tricky if…
it’s too baggy, since that might make you look shapeless.
it’s too short. Throw on a pair of tights or leggings under the shift dress for an easy fix!
3. The Fit-And-Flare Dress
The fit-and-flare style is one of the most consistently popular dress silhouettes, and for good reason! This dress has a fitted top, a defined waist, and a flared skirt. The fit-and-flare dress is a favorite for many women (including me!) because of its very flirty and feminine shape!
I snagged this cute, polka-dot fit-and-flare dress for $32.99 on thredUP, saving 63% over the est. retail price of $89. I paired the dress with a red Caslon scarf (another thredUP find!) that I opted to wear as a shawl. But the star of this outfit, in my humble opinion, is the red ruffled clutch by Hollywould for Target! I paid just $12.99 for it on thredUP, for 41% off the estimated retail price of $22. This fit-and-flare dress ensemble is so fun to wear, and it’s as comfortable as it is cute!
Choose a fit-and-flare dress if…
you want to balance out a large bust. The wide skirt can create more of an hourglass silhouette!
you want to draw attention away from your hips and thighs.
Fit-and-flare dresses can be tricky if…
you want a sophisticated look. Certain lengths and patterns can create a vibe that is more “little girl” than “grown woman.”

The email problem no one is talking about: mistaken identity
This post is part of Me, online, Mashable's ongoing series digging into online identities.
In 2009, a San Francisco web strategist named Tim — last name withheld for reasons that will become clear — opened his Gmail to find a message from a Build-a-Bear workshop in St. Louis. The email was addressed to someone called Tamara.
That's odd, thought Tim, but thought little more about it. Days later he received an email directed at someone called Toby. It contained photos of a family eating an Easter meal with, his correspondent assured him, "lots and lots of BACON!"
SEE ALSO: Everyone's getting new Gmail — and old Gmail will soon go extinct
So far so mundane. But the misdirected emails — for Tyrells, Terrys, Thomases — kept coming at an alarming rate. They often contained the kinds of things you really don't want shared with strangers: hook-up notes ("I got a bottle so we could drink and I'm putting on a dress"), medical records, divorce papers, real estate deals, demands from a debt collector, a request from a police officer for his license plate, even an autopsy report.
Tim keeps a folder in his Gmail now, purely for the more random, weird, indiscreet ones he's received over the last nine years. The folder currently contains 1,355 messages.
"At first I would write back and say 'you have the wrong email,'" says Tim. But sometimes the correspondent would keep bugging him: Okay, what's the right email? The debt collector kept hounding him regardless. These days, with the misdirected emails coming at the rate of one a day, he simply deletes or sends them to spam.
Cases of mistaken identity like this are becoming more common as more people around the globe acquire email addresses — and more of their correspondents misremember or mistype them. But so far as we know there are no email providers, much less startups or security researchers, working to solve the problem. Unlike with spam, there isn't even a catchy name for it.
For many recipients, the problem is amusing at best and irritating at worst. Some misdirected emails can even be useful. (One Mashable editor receives regular discount coupons from a liquor store intended for someone else; she invariably uses them.)
a funny thing unconnected to anything else i have tweeted about this week is that someone named Alexis Mull apparently used my gmail (amull85) to purchase a background report on someone named Tiffany from a sketchy people-finder site and it got emailed to me today
— Amanda Mull (@amandamull) June 7, 2018
Yet the risk is real. Not just the risk of personal embarrassment when a stranger sees your family photos or love notes, but the risk of identity theft when they see your bank records, mortgage application, divorce decree, or any other of the astonishing amount of personal documents we send via the internet these days.
Examples are everywhere. You don't have to look very far on message boards for Microsoft or Apple to find people locked out of their accounts when a security code was sent to the wrong address. In 2016, the National Australia Bank admitted sending emails containing account numbers for some 60,000 customers to the wrong address. The cause? "Human error."
No confirmation required
I could empathize with Tim's problem because it was mine, too. We'd both heard about the arrival of Gmail before it launched in April 2004. We'd both rushed on day one to grab Gmail accounts based on our first initial and last name. We both celebrated our good fortune at the time, not realizing the tangled web that would await years later when you have a common initial-last name combo.
For me, it's been a long decade and a half of fielding emails for what seems like every Chris, Charles, Cynthia, Claire, Clare, Christian, Catherine and Cheryl Taylor on the planet. I'll often wake up to discover a flurry of follow-up emails from auto dealerships in North Carolina — this seems to happen in the Carolinas more than other states, for some reason — and surmise that yet another Charles Taylor has gone car shopping and misremembered his email address. (Or worse, he deliberately fobbed those pesky salesmen off with a Gmail address that sounded like it could be his.)
Like Tim, I've given up trying to respond and mark most of these emails as spam, even though that doesn't quite describe what they are. And even that doesn't fix the problem, because there are invariably more email newbies making fresh mistakes. It isn't the greatest thing for productivity; I probably spend a good half-hour of every day extracting misdirected missives from my poor beleaguered inbox.
If that's all it was, I'd be relatively fine with it. The even larger problem is this: Many popular online services don't require proof that your email says what you say it is — or they treat "ctaylor" and "c.taylor" as different addresses, whereas mail providers like Gmail treat them as one and the same.
That means you can sign up for Instagram, say, with someone else's email address, and they'll be hit with annoying messages from that day forward. Years ago, someone signed up for Instagram with my email address — or at least, the c.taylor version. Occasionally they'll try to log in, and guess where the reset code is sent?
PSA: My actual Instagram account is @futurechris.

Meanwhile, someone named Lloyd Taylor successfully signed up for an Apple ID using my Gmail address. (I used a pre-existing account for my Apple ID.) He requests a password reset that gets sent to my email with such regularity, about once every two weeks, that I assumed it was part of some elaborate phishing expedition.
To its credit, when I contacted the company for this story, Apple was able to confirm that Lloyd is for real. As I write, Apple reps are going through the process of disentangling my address from his account.
How common is this problem? I asked Twitter, and 56% of those who replied said they'd never encountered it in their own digital lives. But that means a whopping 44% did.
[POLL] Have you ever received a private email intended for someone else with a similar name or email address?
— Chris Taylor (@FutureBoy) June 14, 2018
Granted, it's not a scientific poll, and more study is needed. But given that there are an estimated 4 billion email accounts in the world (owned by roughly 2 billion people), if 10 percent of people are encountering this problem "all the time," that's up to 200 million people affected. This is a hell of a problem for something that doesn't even have a name.
I’ve written back when I received an email about a job offer for another Heather, emails where a woman with a catering business thought I was her colleague; emails regarding family reunions; and one time when I got a very personal email with an apology meant for another Heather.
— Heather Lynn Weaver (@HeatherWeaverDC) June 14, 2018
I also get a lot of order confirmations from various websites for Heather Weavers across the country. I don’t contact the companies when i get those (though they often have personal info like address and phone). I also got medical records from a dr office once. I wrote back there
— Heather Lynn Weaver (@HeatherWeaverDC) June 14, 2018
I didn't even have to look that far. My wife Jess has a similar issue, even though she doesn't have a common last name like me or Tim. And she was smarter than both of us, reasoning at the time that merely using her first initial in the account would bring her more misdirected email than she bargained for.
Then in 2010, a woman with the exact same name in Vermont, evidently disappointed by being beaten to the account, signed up for an email using "Jes" rather than Jess. Ever since, it seems, almost everyone emailing that Jess reached my Jess by mistake — especially since the rise of autocorrect.
West Coast Jess has received dozens of wedding planning emails, job applications, rental contracts, Comcast logins, orthodontic and hospital appointments for Vermont Jess' kids, and a hospital ID login. She emailed "Jes" directly, who didn't seem to see the problem. She tried emailing her correspondents, but found the same thing that Tim and I discovered: Whereas you can say the words "wrong number" and people will understand you when they call, you don't get the same reaction when you write back and simply say "wrong email."
"People think you're crazy for pointing it out," Jess says. "They're adamant that they've reached the right person."
This is where technology could help. Gmail has a button that lets us easily report spam — and unsubscribe from annoying lists — with two clicks. How about a button that will have Gmail write a form letter back to the correspondent, explaining that they have not reached the person they think they've reached, to check their records and try again, and maybe don't hound this person for debt payments?
It's an interesting concept, but we're going to have to wait to find out whether Google is interested in implementing it. When I contacted the company for this story, I was told that the Gmail product team is "all heads down" in advance of Google Cloud Next, a conference that isn't happening for another month from now, and an official "no comment."
If and when Gmail and other email providers get around to implementing a fix for the mistaken identity problem, let's just hope those press releases make their way to the intended inboxes.

I’ve been working at the bank for like two months now and I think it’s safe to say I hate it lol. I mean, I like PARTS of it, but the actual work itself bores me to tears haha. But I don’t think I’d want to go back to the book store full time unless it was a legitimate full time position and not “part time but we give you 40 hours anyway.”
Cus like…
Pros of working at the bank:
predictable schedule. I always get Sundays off and get about 50% of Saturdays off. If I have to work Saturday, I’m home by 1:30pm.
I get home by no later than 5:30p on weekdays and 6:30p on Fridays. This means I can actually make real dinners and spend time with my fam the way I want to.
It’s literally five minutes driving time from my house. I could walk there in like 20 if I wanted to. I am never allowed to complain about my commute.
I genuinely like my co-workers. We are all roughly the same age and click pretty well (imo). Even us new folks fit in. I have a great rapport with them.
I get health insurance. And holidays off. And life insurance. And guaranteed paid weeks vacation. Like… Standard. Simply because I’m officially full time and that is AWESOME.
However con’s of working at the bank:
Like most of my other retail jobs, people treat me like shit. Especially older rich folks who have hundreds of thousands of dollars and get upset that I asked for an ID with a “small” check of $1000 they want me to cash.
I sit…all the time. My job requires me to write a lot, and I, for some reason only the gods know, don’t like writing and standing up. So I don’t get a lot of physical exercise and I’m worried it’s going to affect my health. I’m gonna get unhealthy real quick if I don’t work extra hard to keep active.
This is not a 9-5 job. This is generally an 8-4:30 or 8-5:30 job. If you’re unlucky to get drive in on Fridays, you’re at work from 8am till 6:30 pm. That’s ten hours of sitting at work. Like, that’s something they conveniently left out of the interview process. Good thing I found the Gutenberg online library and can sneakily read during horribly long stretches of down time.
It’s a BANK. I never had any intention of working at a bank when I was younger and I’m kind of disappointed in myself for being this desperate for a full-time gig.
But compared to the book store, it isn’t all that bad because:
Cons of working at the book store:
The shittiest fucking schedule you ever did see. I’d do nights anywhere from 2p-10:30p or even 6p-2p. Then have to be in at like 10 or 11 the next day. Consistent days off? Never! Sundays? You bet your ass I was there. Holidays? Yep. Every holiday all day every day.
Upper management did not. Give. A shit. It’s a big box store and thus its all about memberships and pushing collecting emails so we can spam people with coupons and let them know books they don’t even read are on sale. Understaffed? Oh well. Have projects you need to do? Too bad, you can’t do ANY sort of recovery until after 6pm. Our managers try, but there’s only so much they can do.
I get zero benefits, I get paid so much less than at the bank, and I get like half the hours even though I work so much harder than most of the full time folks.
But it isn’t all that horrible and doom and gloom...
Pros of working at the book store:
Okay, its a book store. I survive on books. I get a hell of a discount.
People who are at a book store generally WANT to be there. You don’t think “awwe fuck, I gotta run to the book store today.” well… Generally. So most folks I talk to are REALLY NICE and at least have the tact to say “nah just browsing thank.” and I know most of the regulars in the cafe so I have their drinks halfway made before they even get to my counter.
I was the de facto event lady. I set up and basically ran a lot of our special events. Lego releases, book signings… our goddamn Pokémon 20th anniversary event went so damn smooth because I was literally the only one in the store who played the card game.
I was their gofer. Need something reorganized in the toys and games and hobby sections? Comics? I’m yo gal; I know where every toy and collectible went, what series things belonged to, all that shit. I knew the stuff most people didn’t regarding tech and comics and nerd stuff. Even fiction, romance and sci-fi. I knew what I was doing.
I’m on my feet all day and am able to stay relatively healthy because I’m moving, and my fitbit loves when I work there. Honestly, I jog in the store going from one end to the other.
So like, do I want to go back to the book store? Kind of. Only if it had more to offer in terms of wage raises, increase my hours–-fuck, even give me full time maybe??– and stop trying to push member cards and shit. I know I’d do better at an independent book store, but I live around college towns and indie stores generally hire college kids.
It’s just tough. And I mean, I’m working on trying to get dog training experience, so I’ve contemplated going back to the pet store since they’re looking for a trainer… But that would be a HUGE step backwards. Hopefully I hear back from a woman I’ve been emailing about apprenticeship at her farm and can get started on that ASAP. Until something better comes along I’ll stay where I am.

Quantity Discounts
Who in here likes to shop? Let’s be honest, we all love to shop! I love shopping, especially when there are sales. For instance, how does 2-for-1 sounds? Or, buy-1-get-1- free? I hear SAVINGS, SAVINGS, and more SAVINGS. I am sure I would walk out of a grocery store with at least two bags full of “on sale” food products; in fact, it always happens whenever I go grocery shopping to our local Albertsons. However, are we really saving money or are we just giving in to monopolies. In reality, I most likely did not need all of the food I bought or the ten chocolate bars I got just because there was a buy-ten-get-one-free sale. But, why did I buy more than what I need; what motivated me to?
Let’s take it a step back and explain what a monopoly is. A firm is a monopoly if it is the sole seller of its product and if its product does not have close substitutes. Moreover, a monopoly is a price maker meaning it has the power to influence the market price of its product. A monopoly can raise the price of their products as high as it wishes. Unfortunately, for them, doing so can create an inefficacy of monopoly. An inefficiency of monopoly is when a monopoly charges a price above marginal cost and not all consumers who value the good at more than its cost buy it. We have experience this, perhaps when your favorite juice is more expensive than a month ago, you don’t buy it this time. So, what can the monopoly do to remedy this? Well, there is a solution which is price discrimination. Price discrimination is when a firm sell the same good to different customers for different prices, even though the cost of producing for the two customers are the same. There are various types of price discrimination such as discount coupons, financial aid, and quantity discounts. However, I will focus on explaining quantity discounts. Quantity discounts are often a successful way of price discriminating because a customer’s willingness to pay for an additional unit declines as the customer buys more units.
Many firms offer lower prices to customers who buy large quantities. More products and services for you and more profit for them! And, less money in your wallet and bank account. However, you have bought more and saved some money. Monopolies are away of the declining willingness of customers to buy more units. For example, if a box of cereal cost $2.50, you most likely only buy one. On the other hand, if there is a sale that says buy 5 for $1.99 each, you will most likely buy all five. Let’s do the math:
On Sale Price Regular Price Total Savings
5 x 1.99 = 9.95 5 x 2.50 = 12.50 2.55
The on sale price is very tempting at the moment, but if we do the calculations we will notice that the total savings is not much. However, for the monopoly it is best if you buy 5 units in one purchase than if you only buy one. So they are willing to sacrifice, in this example, 2.55 of profit because their overall revenue will be grater. Going back to the buy-1-get-1-free sale, it is actually a 50% quantity discount since you effectively purchase a unit at half the normal price. But because there is “get 1 free” we are drawn more into the sale.
When I visited Albertsons after learning about this, my perspective as a buyer changed. I am now more aware of prices and so called “sales”, especially quantity discounts. They are great, don’t misunderstand me. Quantity discounts is a way to save money and buy more. However, now I make more smart decisions and don’t just buy. In Albertsons there are always multiple food products at quantity discount. In every section, I was able to find at least one product on quantity discount. Which is great for the customers, magnificent for the monopolies, and overall for the economic welfare. As we have learned, quantity discounts, a form of price discrimination, can eliminate the inefficiency inherent in monopoly pricing.
