(  hannah waddingham,  cis woman,  she/her  )  —  🎬  just  announced,  prudence 'prue' atkinson  has  been  cast  as  miranda priestly  in  the  upcoming the devil wears prada  reboot.  the  fifty-one  year  old  is  trending  as  people  are  debating  if  the  swaying hips, pencil skirts, charming smile, the smell of chanel nr. 5, the colors of the polyamorous flag  that  they  are  known  for  is  enough  to  make  them  as  good  as  original.  a  quick  google  search  shows  that  their  fans  call  them  confident,  but  internet  trolls  think  they’re  more  attention-seeking.  i  guess  their newest  interview  for  variety  where  they  talk  about  coming out in the nineties  will  let  people  to  know  them  better.  (  storm,  26,  gmt+1,  they/them)
born in 1973 to a nurse and a bank teller, prudence grew up in a very normal household, she didn't have everything her heart desired but she had a nice childhood.
she loved acting from an early age so it wasn't a surprise she tried very hard to get into the industry at a young age. her parents didn't stand in her way, but didn't help her either. her career started in 80s commercials as a teenager and she had some very small guest roles as a teenager. she thought she wasn't going to get anywhere and almost decided to become a hairdresser.
on a whim, she auditioned with a videotape for xena: the warrior princess and GOT IT. in 1995, she started in her role as gabriella, which would change her life forever. not only did she gain a queer following, it also made her comfortable to come out publicly in 1998 as - at that time - bisexual. now, she identifies as pansexual.
her career seemed dead before it even started because of her coming out but prue found her niche acting in big and small queer productions until she landed a role in mulholland drive, a movie that went on to be a great success.
after that, she landed the role of alice pieszecki in the l word which solidified her status as a queer, most notably lesbian, icon. it was also in that period she got together with the woman who is still her partner to this day (wanted connection alert)
she never got married, doesn't have any kids, and just loves to enjoy life. last year, she made it public knowledge that she is in an open relationship after rumors she was cheating on her partner - which she most certainly wasn't.
she isn't the biggest star, but she is certainly well known, and now, being cast as miranda priestly is her biggest, most mainstream role in years. carol was only a blip, really - but this was a very big movie back in the day. it is terrifying to step into such big shoes, but she is ready to fill them.

So has anyone else clicked on the weird many dot icon on posts now and found the web of reblogs?
It's like they gave us back Prev tags ability but in the least efficient way.
But it's also like the chart of relationships on the L-word.
Like you can now see where people might be friends but also where someone had a lot of initial reblogs. Like visually it's interesting I just don't understand why they did it. Also curious what it does for deactivated blogs.
(An example of it.)

“The L Word” cast & creator join White House press briefing to celebrate Lesbian Visibility Week
In celebration of Lesbian Visibility Week, the cast of The L Word joined out White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to kick off yesterday’s press briefing. Jean-Pierre was joined at the podium by the show’s co-creator Ilene Chaiken, as well as actresses Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, and Leisha Hailey, who respectively play beloved characters Bette, Shane, and Alice in both the original early 2000s series as well as the 2019 The L Word: Generation Q reboot. --- Related Stories Out civil rights warrior Rue Landau is running to make history on the Philadelphia City Council “I stand on the shoulders of the their greatness,” Landau said of the closeted leaders who came before her. --- Jeane-Pierre introduced the L Word team by acknowledging the massive impact the show has had on generations of queer women. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Leisha Hailey (@leishahailey) Jean-Pierre spoke about how the show has saved lives and how she attended the filming of last year’s episode that featured a marriage between two iconic characters, “a moment that meant so much to queer women across the country,” she said. She spoke about feeling “alone and sometimes invisible” growing up as a young queer woman of color. “For so many people in our community, The L Word‘s impact cannot be understated. Being able to see diverse narratives that reflect our lives is incredibly important.” “From book bans to don’t say gay laws, MAGA extremists want to roll back the visibility we fought so hard to achieve, but LGBTQI+ youth are resilient… they are fierce, they fight back, they aren’t going anywhere.” She emphasized that people in the Biden administration “have their back.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kate Moennig (@kateomoennig) Chaiken and Hailey also spoke. Chaiken acknowledged the immense power of speaking alongside the first out lesbian press secretary in U.S. history who is also serving the most pro-equality president. “We learned by the beautiful response to our show how important it is for people, particularly young people, to see themselves reflected in our entertainment culture and to know that they’re embraced, valued, and not alone,” she said. “We’re painfully aware that our struggles are far from over… We’ve been fighting this fight for generations, and we’ll never stand down. They may try to erase our stories from classrooms and libraries, but we’re here…and we won’t be erased.” Hailey then added, “I’m standing here today because as a young gay girl in Nebraska who raced soap box derby cars and wore rainbow suspenders, I was seen by my family. Their love and support gave me the courage and confidence to live my life openly.” “Visibility is not just the act of being seen,” she continued. “It is the ability to see.” She went to express to the queer people fighting for their right to exist every day, “We see you.” After the briefing, the cast met with LGBTQ+ members of President Joe Biden’s administration to discuss efforts to advance LGBTQ+ equality. On Instagram, the stars celebrated their appearance at the White House. “It is a once in a lifetime event for an actor to be part of a project that offers up measurable good, meaningful healing for so many,” wrote Jennifer Beals, alongside the video of the cast and Jean-Pierre strutting down the White House halls to Beyonce’s Run the World (Girls). “It starts with visibility. Knowing your story-whether in part or parcel-deserves to be told, matters. It is an honor to be an ally to the brilliant, diverse, intrepid #LGBTQIA+ community. I have gained so much more than I have given. What an honor. Lucky me.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jennifer Beals (@thejenniferbeals) http://dlvr.it/Sn6H5q

The Modern Mindutme Alphabet
The Modern Mindutme alphabet is one descendant of the Old Mindutme Alphabet, discussed in my previous post. It has 31 letters, adding six to the original set. A number of letters have changed their sounds due to the development of the Mindutme language, so there are now several letters with multiple possible sounds, as well as a few sounds with multiple spellings.
Several of the original vowel letters have differing sounds based on stress. The first sound shown below is for unstressed syllables, and the second is for stressed ones.
ix → yaqh [jɐꭓ] “spoon” — /i, jɐ/ ([ɨ] when unstressed and following a retroflex consonant) ul → wal [wɐɫ] “bowl” — /u, wɐ/ et → it [it] “foot” — /e, i/ ([ɛ] when adjacent to a uvular consonant, [ɨ] when stressed and following a retroflex consonant) ohis → oys [ɔjs] “pine tree” — /o, u/ ([ɔ] when adjacent to a uvular consonant)
Tumblr media
ɛhɔr → ewr [ɛwɾ] “hook” — /ɛ/ (only occurs in stressed syllables) ɔne → one [ˈɔ.ne] “spear” — /ɔ/ (only occurs in stressed syllables) ɑl → al [ɐɫ] “food” — /ə, ɐ/
Tumblr media
There are now six more vowel letters, each deriving from a ligature of two of the above.
it-al — /eə/ oys-al — /oə/ ewr-wal — /ɛw/
Tumblr media
one-yaqh — /ɔj/ al-yaqh — /ɐj/. In the dialect of Voṣeaṣi, the capital city, this has become /ɛ/ or /e/, depending on stress. al-wal — /ɑw/. In the same dialect, this is /ɔ/ or /o/.
Tumblr media
The consonants are in general less changed, though several have allophonic variation.
wɔɔɡ → wug [wuɡ] “songbird” — /w/ juket → waqhet [ˈwɐ.ꭓɛt] “arrow” — /j/ lɑk → laq [lɐq] “door” — /l, ɫ/
Tumblr media
rɛldɛn → reldn [ˈrɛl.dn̩] “hawk” — /r, ɾ/ mɛi → mi [mi] “water” — /m/ noɡɛ → nugh [nuɣ] “bow” — /n, ɳ, ŋ, ɴ/
Tumblr media
veud → vewd [vɛwd] “ox” — /v/ zɑje → zaye [ˈzɐ.je] “feather” — /z, ʐ/ fiɛl → fyel [fjɛl] “deciduous tree” — /f/
Tumblr media
sɛu → sew [sɛw] “arm” — /s, ʂ/ xet → khit [xit] “onion” — /x, ꭓ/ hus → hwas [hwɐs] “flower” — /h/
Tumblr media
bjer → byir [bjiɾ] “knot” — /b/ dɛllɛ → del [dɛl] “path” — /d, ɖ͡ʐ/ ɡuul → qwal [qʷɐl] “hand” — /ɡ, ɣ, q/
Tumblr media
poɡɔm → pughm [ˈpu.ɣm̩] “cart” — /p/ tjɔf → tṣof [ʈ͡ʂɔf] “cat” — /t, ʈ͡ʂ/ kiɛt → kyet [kjɛt] “leg” — /k, q/
Tumblr media
(The situation with retroflex consonants is not actually allophonic, but it’s a bit much to get into in this post.)
Though Old Mindutme had several writing directions, Modern Mindutme has settled on left-to-right. A brief note I forgot to mention in the last post: in Old Mindutme, several letters had multiple versions depending on writing direction. In general, et “foot” would point to the left in right-to-left text, and to the right in left-to-right text; likewise with wɔɔg, juket, rɛldɛn, nogɛ, veud, and kiɛt. When Modern Mindutme settled on left-to-right writing, most of these letters settled with the corresponding orientation. The only exceptions are waqhet and kyet, which happened to end up pointing to the left.
As discussed in this post, there are two styles of writing Mindutme. One is a disconnected “print” style, which simply takes the above letters and puts them together in sequence. The other, the kakhmikrn or calligraphic style, joins the letters together so that every word is a single connected unit, often distorting the letter forms somewhat to do this. A letter may be to the right of, below, or even within or around the previous letter, ideally fitting in with the general shape of the word as gracefully as possible. Whenever possible, strokes are combined to enhance the flow of the entire word.
Here are the modern equivalents to the sentences from the last post, in both styles. First, fya kren “I wrote”:
Tumblr media
And fya hwas am u ṣan, “I gave a fish a flower”:
Tumblr media
Some words can naturally combine more elegantly than others. This blog’s icon might be mistaken for a single glyph of a more complex writing system, but it’s actually the interrogative particle zvu:
Tumblr media
And the header is the word Mindutme itself:
