The Icelandic Horse Strong, beautiful and kind.. Nice to know: You can find Icelandic Horses outside of Iceland, but those horses are not allowed to return to their native country. Iceland has very strict rules regarding its exclusive breed of horses in the world. And it‘s been that way for over 1000 years! And very important: The Icelandic Horses, along with only a handful of the world‘s rare breeds, are the closest tie we have to the3 first domesticated horses. It‘s so nice to meet them like here in Hella! Beautiful, love them and their so small! The Vikings began to settle them in Iceland from 874 - 930 AD.. Love these horses.

We took a day to ride Icelandic horses, which are beautiful and gentle.  Their history is very interesting, and they are a breed that came from horses brought over on ships by soldiers from the Skandinavian countries and the U.K.  They are raised and live outside their entire lives, and are not trained until they are at least five years old.  They are small, hearty, gentle, and playful, and have "good minds" as our host shared.
