            Boudica was an Iceni queen, who was born into a high-ranking family in the Celtic tribe. Britain at the time was made up of tribes who were usually at conflict with one another. King Prasutagus of the East Anglia tribe was able to rule under Roman consent, Boudica married him in 48 and the couple had two daughters. He fell ill and left his land and finances to Emperor Nero and his remaining fortune to his family. When he died Boudica became queen, in the Icenic tribe, women were strong and educated, and were equal to men. The Romans didn’t believe a woman could rule and they thought because Boudica was a woman she would submit to their will and took all her possessions. The Romans dragged Boudica to the market place, stripped her and flogged her in front of a crowd of people. The soldier then took her teenage daughters (who were aged around 12) and raped them in front of her.  

            Boudica wasn’t going to take this lying down and gave the Romans a taste of their own medicine; she was able to unite the leaders of the Iceni tribes to revolt against the Romans. They destroyed and burned down every major roman city in Britain she came along, including Londinium (London) and killed everyone within them.  

            Boudica was described as tall, terrifying, fierce, had long hair, wore a large gold necklace, and had a harsh voice. The Romans stated at the time, ‘The fight had been no less fierce with the women than with the men themselves… the women charged with swords and axes.. .’

            The Romans chose the next place and time of battle, unfortunately Boudica agreed. The Romans were at an advantage due to their position and even though Boudica had the numbers they also had poor weapons and many of her soldiers were naked and their retreat was blocked by onlookers and wagons. Roman general Suetonius positioned his troops in an open place which gave him advantage; Boudica had to fight from the bottom of the hill. Boudica and her people brought their families with them in wagons. That morning in the year 62, Boudica led her army towards the Romans, the Romans moved towards them from all sides which caused chaos and the Romans quickly defeated them. The Romans slaughtered any survivors who didn’t escape and killed family members who were inside the wagons. What happened to Boudica and her daughters is unknown.  

            The British remained under Roman control, the Romans eventually discarded Britain in 410 due to constant attacks from tribes. Icentic today is in Norway.

Personally I have NEVER believed in the idea that young adult women "can't consent", or that you can groom a mentally sound adult (grooming by definition relies on a child's lack of knowledge about sex) I find it insulting & infantilizing, and I've seen media hitjobs before, "guilty until proven innocent" exists for a reason. If anything reliably creates an angry mob, there is an icentive for people who want a mob to claim it. It's as simple as that. You can't blanket believe (or disbelieve!) anyone.

There are absolutely cases where ppl go into denial when they are abused by a partner, but that they keep sending enthusiastic sexual text messages? That doesn't happen. (I've heard that many times from both rape victims and lawyers who work with such cases.)

If you look at it in context, the women themselves say it was consensual at the time, while there may have been some miscommunications, uncomfortable sex or them agreeing to stuff they later regretted.

At very last stuff is being taken out of context in the newspaper articles.

To be clear I don't care about Gaiman, he's not a big favorite or anything, I wasn't there so I can't claim to know what's the truth here, but it's scary to me that, if someone agrees to fuck me with mixed feelings and despite my best efforts to ask if they're comfy etc. I don't read their mind, I'd be on the hook for taking them at their word.

Plus as a woman I am concerned about this infantilization. If I choose to fuck an old man then it's because I want to, full stop. I fucked my fair share of old men when I was 20, sadly no famous ones, but like, I definitely knew what I was doing. You might argue that I had more power in that situation cause I had more "options" than them. That's why I liked it, actually, they were grateful and knew what they were doing. I was using a time-limited resource like youth & beauty to get something I wanted.

As someone that actually went in and read the allegations against Neil Gaiman, they are dicey.

(full disclosure, I am a big fan of his. HOWEVER!!!! I am a feminist first, Neil Gaiman fan second. I will always believe victims first, even if its some of my favorite artists.)

They're just so confusing, and it seems way more like they regretted sex they had. There are screenshots of texts saying the first victim consented, and the second victim said "I never wanted any of the stuff he did to me, including the more violent stuff. But I did consent to it.'"

Like, we can't sue an amusement park for throwing up after a roller coaster, dude. I'm sorry you didn't like it as much as you thought you would. Kink isn't for everyone.
