#PHnews: Lubao int’l balloon fest canceled due to Covid-19

LUBAO, Pampanga—Organizers of the Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival (IBMF) have decided to cancel this year’s event due to concerns over the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak.

The annual festival is supposed to be held on April 3-5 this year at Pradera Verde in Barangay Prado Siongco here.

The IBMF organizers said the cancellation supports the advisory of the Department of Health (DOH) urging the public to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees.

The advisory likewise recommends the cancellation of such planned big events or mass gatherings to further minimize the risk of contracting Covid-19.

“For the past six years of organizing the Lubao International Hot Air Balloon and Music Festival, we have always prioritized the safety and comfort of our guests. It is for this reason, and in light of the recent health concerns surrounding the Covid-19, that we have reached the decision to cancel the event,” the IBMF said in a statement.

The organizers apologized to the public for the cancellation, but promised a bigger and grander event next year.

“We would like to apologize for the unfortunate news, especially to those who have made travel plans. See you next year at the bigger and brighter Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival,” the IBMF said.

Some 30,000 spectators come and witness the annual event which is considered as the biggest ballooning festival in South East Asia.

Aside from the balloon flights, spectators also enjoy aerial shows, land exhibitions, games and other activities including live performances from local bands. (PNA)

Music without instruments στο Ίδρυμα Μιχάλης Κακογιάννης στις 28 & 29 Νοεμβρίου 2018 Ο ήχος του σώματος, η φωνή, η παράδοση: αρχέγονα συστατικά για μία πολύ σύγχρονη και πρωτοποριακή παράσταση, που συνδυάζει ρυθμό και κίνηση, μουσική και θέατρο, χωρίς κανένα άλλο μέσο, εκτός από το ίδιο το ανθρώπινο σώμα. Ο Simone Mongelli και η ομάδα του παρουσιάζουν το Bodyterranean, έργο βασισμένο στο ομώνυμο άλμπουμ που ο Ιταλός καλλιτέχνης εξέδωσε πριν μερικούς μήνες, αποτέλεσμα μίας μακρόχρονης έρευνας πάνω στο πάντρεμα της σύγχρονης γλώσσας της Body Music με την αρχαία γλώσσα της παράδοσης της Ελλάδας και της Ιταλίας, όπου χρησιμοποίησε αποκλειστικά τους ήχους του σώματος, ως κρουστό, και της φωνής, ως μελωδικό όργανο. Ένα έργο που πρωτοτυπεί στην Ελλάδα, και όχι μόνο, το οποίο έρχεται σαν συνέχεια της καλλιτεχνικής πορείας του Simone Mongelli, και της προσωπικής του έρευνας πάνω στο παραδοσιακό υλικό. Στο άλμπουμ συνέπραξε με πολλούς καλλιτέχνες από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό, από το διεθνή κύκλο της Body Music και από την εγχώρια σκηνή της παραδοσιακής και a cappella μουσικής, όπως τους Max Pollak, Bryan Dyer, Antwan Davis και Raùl Cabrera, την Αρετή Κετιμέ, την Μαρία Κώτη, τον Μάνο Αχαλινωτόπουλο (στα φωνητικά!), τον Αλέξανδρο Καψοκαβάδη, τα φωνητικά σύνολα Πλειάδες και Stringless, τους beat-boxers Word of Mouth, τον Θάνο Δασκαλόπουλο. Για την υλοποίηση της παράστασης, ύστερα από διαδικασία ακρόασης, επέλεξε πέντε νέους και ταλαντούχους καλλιτέχνες και performers, με ειδικότητες στο παραδοσιακό τραγούδι, τον χορό, την μουσική του σώματος και γενικά το performing, για να δημιουργήσει μία καινούργια, δυναμική ομάδα που υπόσχεται πολλά. Το Bodyterranean είναι μία πλούσια, δυναμική παράσταση με κύρια συστατικά τον ρυθμό και την πολυρυθμία, την μελωδία και την πολυφωνία, την κίνηση και την ατ��όσφαιρα, και με επίκεντρο το σώμα. Pregnancy outcomes in mothers of offspring with inherited bone marrow failure syndromes

Abstract

Background

Children with inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (IBMFSs) may be symptomatic in utero, resulting in maternal and fetal problems during the pregnancy. Subsequent pregnancies by their mothers should be considered “high risk”.

Methods

We retrospectively analyzed outcomes of 575 pregnancies in 165 unaffected mothers of offspring with Fanconi anemia (FA), dyskeratosis congenita (DC), Diamond–Blackfan anemia (DBA), and Shwachman–Diamond syndrome (SDS) for events noted during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. We compared outcomes of pregnancies with affected and unaffected offspring within each group of mothers and with the general population.

Results

The rates of miscarriage (12–20%), elective abortion (5–10%), and live birth (68–78%) among mothers of all IBMFS groups were similar and comparable with general population rates but recurrent miscarriages (≥2) were significantly more common in mothers of offspring with DBA and SDS. Offspring with FA were more frequently born small for gestational age (SGA) than unaffected babies (39% vs. 4%) and had fetal malformations (46%) with 18% having three or more, often necessitating early delivery and surgery; offspring with DC had higher rates of SGA (39% vs. 8%) and fetal distress (26% vs. 3%); and offspring with DBA had fetal hypoxia (19% vs. 1%) leading to preterm and emergency cesarean deliveries (26% vs. 6%). Offspring with early-onset severe phenotypes had the most prenatal and peripartum adverse events.

Conclusion

We identified the high-risk nature of pregnancies in mothers with IBMFS-affected fetuses, suggesting the need for prepregnancy counseling and monitoring of subsequent pregnancies by high-risk fetal–maternal specialists.
