ok you totally don't have to do it butttttttttttt like could we get a spare gavi spending eid w/ the reader's family for your muslim readers 👀
It would be so islamaphobic if I didn’t do this (reader is an Arabic speaker. If you don’t speak Arabic, pretend that the Arabic is whatever language you want!)
~~~
Drip Too Hard
“Pablo I’m almost ready I just need to- what are you wearing?”
Pablo fought back the urge to laugh at the look of shock-horror on your face. It didn’t seem like the appropriate time. His eyes scanned your figure, wrapped in a beautiful blue dress. The skirt and sleeves were embroidered in gold thread, weaving elaborate floral patterns that cascaded and shimmers across your body. Delicate glass beads reflected the light, throwing fractals around the room. Layers of jewelry hung delicately from your neck and wrists, chiming with every one of your movements. He was used to your face done up, but your hair flowing and the precise black lines framing your face made you a different type of captivating. You looked simply stunning. He peered down at his own attire, suddenly feeling horribly underdressed. His short sleeve shirt and khakis, despite being rather pricey, gave the impression that he was off to a beach volleyball tournament, while you looked ready to grace a runway or gala.
“…clothes? I didn’t know this was a formal event. I thought we were just going to go have brunch with your parents.”
“Right but it’s Eid brunch. Why are you in shorts??”
“Why does this brunch need us to dress like we’re going to a ball?”
Your eyes were wide as saucers, jaw on the floor. You know Gavi hadn’t been around the culture and religion for that long, but you couldn’t process this level of unawareness to his surroundings. You had dragged him across Barcelona to different markets to get fabric and beads for your dress, taking swatches to perfectly match your heels, and even asking him to bring you a specific pendant from his trip to Ibiza. You thought he might sense that the occasion called for something more formal than khaki shorts.
“Come here, Pablito.”
You said, sitting on your couch and beckoning him over. He froze in his spot a moment, realizing he was about to face a potential scolding. He walked slowly and sat beside you, careful not to crush the luxurious fabric you were wrapped in. You turned your phone screen to him, showing him a glamorous photo. Three young men, all around your age, in different colored suits. All of them brandished designer belts with large buckles, the leather matching that of their dress shoes. Three wrists displayed three gleaming watches, all embossed with a crown. Next to them, a girl stood in a beautifully embroidered dress, the glittering fabric reflecting the sunlight. The deep purple of the garment was reflected in her intricate eye makeup, and the red bottoms of her heels peaked through the drapery.
“These, Pablo, are my cousins. This is what they wore to Eid brunch with the family last year and they were called underdressed because one of them didn’t have a suit jacket. Eid is the Muslim Met Gala, and I will not be on the worst dressed list by association. Please tell me you have something else to wear.”
Gavi brought his hands to his temples, rubbing them to soothe the oncoming headache from all the information.
“Amie Paris always sends me stuff and I haven’t opened most of it. Oh and Dolce & Gabbana. You can look through and pick an outfit for me.” He suggested, watching your eyes light up and a smile erupt across your face. You tugged his wrist, encouraging him to follow you in. For the next 20 minutes, you treated him like your own personal Ken doll, dressing him up in different luxurious clothing.
You took a step back to admire your artistry. On his chest rested a crisp blue Amie dress shirt, tucked into the pants of a stunningly tailored D&G suit, hugging every muscle in an elegant and yet drool inducing manner. A black Hermes belt sat low on his hips, matching the black leather dress shoes you had forced him into (“Pablo it’s a formal event put the Dunks away!”). Matching Hermes cuff links clinked softly against the platinum Rolex on his wrist. He pushed his hair back and put on his favorite sunglasses.
“Good enough for the Eid instagram picture?” He asked, smirking as he saw you look at him like he was ambrosia from the heavens above.
“Mhm, almost too good. Let’s go before my parents get suspicious as to why we’re late.”
~
Pulling up to your parents house, Pablo parked behind the six or seven other cars by the property. The gorgeous weather had brought the Eid festivities outside, and Gavi couldn’t help but be struck by the beauty of it all. Tables in white and gold cloths held serving trays piled high with sweet and savory delicacies. Every utensil, from the plates to the silverware, was embellished with gold patterns, forming the shapes of stars and crescent moons. Your entire family was spread across the lawn: parents in the middle conversing with aunts and uncles while sipping on cold juices, and cousins ages 3 to 33 were spread about, running and laughing and of course taking photos.
“While I’m incredibly grateful that you made me change, I still feel a little out of place. I don’t know what you’re supposed to do on Eid.” He said, keeping himself at a respectable religious distance. You giggled softly before grabbing his hand, lancing your fingers between his clammy ones. “You just celebrate. Like Christmas. We’ll say hi to my parents, then we can mingle and do whatever we want until they serve the food.”
“Okay okay, one last question.”
“Yes, pablito?”
“What is that creature on the table?”
You turned around to follow Gavi’s line of sight, a loud laugh releasing itself from your throat before you could contain it. You tried to stifle it quickly as the redness creeped onto Gavi’s cheeks. You didn’t want to embarrass him.
“That’s a roasted lamb, amor. I know it looks a little strange to see a whole one on a tray like that, but it’s tradition. They might ask you to eat the head.”
“What??”
Before you could answer and quell Pablo’s fear, your mother called you over.
"حبيبتي، شو المضحك لهذه الدرجة؟ صوتك كثير عالي"
(Love, what’s so funny? You’re laughing very loudly)
Walking over, you kissed your mother on the cheek three times, hugging her close and wishing her a blessed Eid.
"ولا شيء مهم، ماما. كان خطيبي بس خايف من شكال الخاروف "
(Nothing important, mama. My fiancé was just scared by the lamb)
Pablo followed you over after a moment, shaking your father’s hand and kissing your mother on the cheeks. He thanked them for allowing him to be a part of their celebration, and your mother hugged him once again, reminding him that he was like family.
After small talk with your parents, you and Pablo moved around the function, greeting and chatting with various cousins. You laughed and talked loudly, continuing carefree. You loved watching Gavi interact with your family, culture, and religion. About 30 minutes after your arrival, you felt a tap on your shoulder.
“We’re going to take instagram pictures now, and we were wondering: can we steal your man to be in them with us?” You stated in shock at your cousins, who often payed you and your doings no mind. “Why him?” You asked, amused by how shy they seemed, like children asking if their friend could come play. “Because he’s dripping hard. Plus if we tag him we could get mad amounts of girls in our DMs.” Have to appreciate that honesty.
Gavi agreed to the photos, and stood with your male cousins to take some hot and only slightly cringey photos in front of all the expensive cars people drive to the function. Afterwards, Pablo handed his phone to your cousin, asking for pictures of the two of you.
“We have to get some together princesa. I wouldn’t look this fine without your help.”
Walking over, you wrapped an arm around him and kissed his cheek, eliciting vomit sounds from your family. “You’re pretty fine looking all on your own. Thank you, by the way, for coming with me.”
“Of course. There’s no one I’d rather spend my time with, habibti.” (My love)
Needless to say, that one phrase is what created the best photo. You were looking over your shoulder with sheer joy on your face, eyes meeting those of an excited and lovesick Pablo. He was your biggest blessing.
Wholeheartedly agree Carmen will never be an it girl. It’s just not her style. She dresses too maturely and is too polished.
Part of the it girl aesthetic is being a little fun and out there with their clothes (the funky jewelry, colorful clothes, the beaded dresses, etc) or vibes
I think being an “it” girl just means you’re what the girlies want to be. Alexandra is “it” to a tee. She wears Annie’s Ibiza dresses, she’s tiny, gorgeous, outshines even Prince Charming Leclerc, models for the aspirational brand, works in a field that screams generational wealth. Every 20-25 year old girl wants their life to be a Pinterest board like that.
Carmen’s a bit too real. She’s rigid in her brand, to the point of predictable. She, in my opinion, doesn’t always dress in a way that is flattering or elevates her clothes, she’s very much a side character to PR63 which works for their personal brand but is hard to break away from. I think she’s a bit outside her demographic, in a way. She’s low-key a budget Susie Wolff and people already idolise them real one.
extra — the last thing
➝ in brescia, toto made a decision about his relationship with elisabeth. but, he still needs to talk to someone about it.
➝ word count: 2,6k
➝ warnings: none
AUGUST, 2017
Toto sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the maroon velvet box in his hand.
He flipped open the lid with this thumb, studying the ring inside carefully. It was a platinum band with a diamond solitaire. It was understated, almost discreet. He’d bought it at a jewelry store in Brescia before the Mille Miglia started the next day. He bought it after a ten-minute conversation with the saleswoman, but it was nowhere near what he wanted to offer Elisabeth, nowhere near what she deserved, at least in his mind.
In Toto's mind, she deserved something exclusive, unique, with a huge stone that could tell the whole world that she was the most loved woman in the world. His impulse to try to fix things between them ended up speaking louder than the desire to show the rest of the people that she would be his wife.
The idea of surprising her as soon as she returned from Italy with a marriage proposal was dashed when he saw her at the finish line waving at him with an embarrassed smile. It had been a surprise to see her there, especially after she had told him, quite bluntly, that she wouldn’t be there even if something went wrong during the race and he’d ended up in the hospital.
After a long conversation, in which they apologized for the way they’d treated each other, they exchanged a hug and kiss for the first time in weeks, and all was forgiven. However, something kept bothering Toto, like an itch in a spot he couldn't reach.
He kept thinking about what he’d told her as they sat in that cafe in Brescia.
“I pondered whether it was worth continuing”, he heard her say inside his mind.
It had taken Toto by surprise. As much as he was upset about the fight they had had, he had never even considered breaking up with Elisabeth. The prospect of not having her in his life was unthinkable.
Toto loved her far too much to lose her. He loved her so much that he was willing to assume all of the blame in their argument just to see her smile again. He loved her so much that he had bought her an engagement ring. He loved so much that he wanted to give her much more than his love or even his heart. He wanted to give her his last name.
— Elisabeth Renate Wolff — he murmured, turning the box slightly, watching the diamond sparkle as it caught the light. It was beautiful, delicate, perfect, just like her. As he said it out loud, he was more determined than ever to make that name a reality.
But how?
The idea of asking Elisabeth for her hand in marriage right after their biggest argument to date seemed wrong. They needed some time to get back into their routine, to get comfortable with each other again. The last thing he wanted was to upset the balance they had again.
In the end, the box ended up tucked away under his socks, in a corner of the bottom drawer of his closet in Vienna, waiting for the perfect occasion.
When he and Elisabeth received Niki's invitation to go to Ibiza during the summer break, Toto was positive the perfect occasion would be during their trip. There was no place Elisabeth loved more in the world than Ibiza, and the person she became on the island was proof of that. The stern, serious businesswoman completely disappeared as soon as she stepped out of the plane on the island’s airport, and was replaced by a cheerful, warm woman, who traded business suits, heels, and a flat iron for light summer dresses, sandals, and gorgeous natural curls.
Elisabeth didn’t like anyone to see that side of herself. She never said it, but Toto knew that she was afraid if more people saw the carefree, relaxed version of Elisabeth Lauda, they wouldn’t take her seriously. Little did she know, though, that was the version of herself that Toto liked the most - the version he wanted to see for the rest of his life.
Closing the box and squeezing it in his hand, Toto got up from the bed, left Elisabeth's room, and walked down the hall, stopping outside of a closed door. It was an indication that the room was occupied, likely by someone reviewing documents or answering emails.
He knocked twice on the door and received an affirmative-sounding grunt from inside, which made Toto open the door. Niki was sitting in an office chair, staring at his computer screen, analyzing an aerodynamic chart, his red cap on the table. He cocked an eyebrow as he glanced over his shoulder.
— What’s the problem?
Toto hesitated for a second.
— Can we talk?
Twisting around in his chair, the ex-driver smirked.
— I already told you I won't talk about work with you while we’re here.
— It's not about work, Niki.
Niki looked at Toto skeptically for a few seconds, and then gestured for him to take a seat.
— Sit down.
Toto approached an armchair that was in the corner of the office, next to a lamp and a shelf stacked with books and some older family pictures. One of the pictures was of Elisabeth. She was sitting on the mansion’s porch with a smile on her face and one hand on a yellow lab that he remembered was named “Lucho”. Niki was watching him intently, her eyes landing on his knees, the cuts and scrapes exposed by the khaki shorts he was wearing.
— Did you have fun at the beach today? — he asked.
Toto looked up at his father-in-law.
— Yeah, Liesl took me to a very beautiful place…
— I hope you took some time to admire the scenery and not just my daughter — Niki murmured, a sly smile on his face.
Toto felt his face heat at the insinuation.
— Niki...
— I know this pain well — the former driver continued, pointing to his knees — Next time, take a towel, it’s much more…
— I came to talk about something else, Niki — Toto said abruptly, trying to keep a straight face. The matter was, after all, of paramount importance to him, and he hoped that Niki would feel the same way.
Raising an eyebrow, Niki placed his hands on the arms of the chair and leaned back a little.
— Well, what would it be about?
— It's about Elisabeth — he replied, squeezing the velvet box in his fist — Well, about me and Elisabeth.
Niki's lips curled into a mischievous smile.
— If it's about an issue with your relationship, and you're looking for advice, unfortunately, I won't be able to help you.
— It is not…
— First of all, if something happens between you two, I'll be on my daughter's side, after all, Elisabeth is always right — his father-in-law continued — By the way, there’s a good bit of advice. When in doubt, a woman is always right, even when she is wrong.
— We are…
— My arguments with Marlene just ended after I just got it into my head that she's always right. Life just got a lot easier...
Toto's eagerness to tell the real reason he was there overrode his patience to indulge in Niki’s musings about his own marriage. He stared at Niki intensely as he wordlessly placed the maroon box on Niki’s desk.
Niki immediately fell silent, his blue eyes going directly to the box on his desk in front of him. His expression was inscrutable for what felt like the longest few seconds of Toto’s life. He went tense as his stomach churned from the tension and anticipation.
— Is that what I think it is? — Niki asked.
— Depends on what you think it is — Toto said, quietly.
Reaching out, the ex-driver took the box off the table and flipped open the lid. As he looked at the ring nestled inside, Toto noticed that Niki’s lips were tightening.
— Is this an engagement ring?
— Yes.
— Does that mean you want to propose to Elisabeth?
— Yes, Niki, I do.
He closed the box delicately and set it back on the top of his desk, resting his arms back on the armrests of his chair. There was another long stretch of silence that Toto found particularly agonizing, given that he’d just declared his intentions to marry the love of his life, and that his business partner and future father-in-law was saying nothing. Instead, Niki gave him a long, contemplative look.
— What does Elisabeth say about that?
— She doesn't know yet.
Niki blinked.
— Then why are you…
— I wanted you to be the first to know my intentions, Niki. I am fully aware that Liesl and I started our relationship in… The wrong way, especially with regards to you. For me, this is the best way to fix it.
His father-in-law directed his gaze away from Toto, and onto his red cap sitting on his desk.
— I love Elisabeth, Niki. I love your daughter so deeply that I no longer see my future without her by my side.
— And you think putting a ring on her finger will guarantee she'll be in your future? — Niki asked dryly.
— It might not guarantee she will be, but it guarantees I will be. Because I'm going to be by her side, Niki, whether she likes it or not. I will support her in everything she chooses to do.
Toto felt his throat tighten as he spoke about Elisabeth. It was difficult to put into words everything he felt for her, especially for someone who loved her as intensely as he did. However, as he looked up at Niki, Toto noticed a sort of understanding in his expression that encouraged him to keep talking.
— I want to marry her because just being her boyfriend doesn't seem enough anymore, Niki. She deserves so much more than just living with me, and working with me. We share a life together, but she deserves more than that. She deserves to be Elisabeth Wolff.
— Is there something wrong with my last name? — Niki asked, a sly smile on his lips. Toto chuckled.
— No, absolutely not. The choice will be hers, obviously, but I want to offer this option to her. She deserves to have that last part of me that isn't hers yet, which is my last name.
Niki sighed, shifting in the chair across from him.
— If I know anything about my daughter, I doubt she'll give up on being a Lauda.
— And I don't care one bit.
— It’s probably better that way — Niki said, smiling.
There was another stretch of silence.
— So?
— What?
— Do you agree? — Toto asked anxiously.
— As far as I know, it's Elisabeth who you want to marry, not me. She has to agree, not me.
— It's just that I wanted your — he hesitated for a few seconds — Blessing.
Niki snorted at the mention of the word.
— I told Elisabeth as soon as she told me about the two of you dating that this blessing thing is all bullshit. You are both adults, you’re both fully capable of making your own choices and dealing with the consequences of them.
— But…
— However, if my opinion is so important for you to take this step in your lives, you must know that I agree, and your union is blessed, or whatever nonsense.
Toto's lips curved into a smile, the tightness in his chest disappearing. Hearing those words from Niki was a relief, and he’d said it in the most Niki Lauda way possible.
— However, I have a few conditions.
Toto raised an eyebrow, confused.
— Conditions?
— The first is that the decision regarding Elisabeth’s surname. If she wants to remain as a Lauda, she must have complete freedom to do so, with no complaints on your part.
Toto nodded.
— The second condition is that you will not be married in a church. If you want to have a religious ceremony, with a priest or anything like that, that's fine, but know that the next time I set foot in a church will be in my coffin.
— Fine by me — Toto said, laughing.
— And lastly, you have to give me a granddaughter. Lukas seems to have no intention of having children any time soon, and Mathias is satisfied with his two boys, so you two are my last hopes for a little girl running around this house.
— You know we have no control over that, right?
— Sure you do. You just have to keep trying. One of them has to work out, doesn't it? — Niki replied, laughing — Besides, you already have one daughter, it shouldn’t be too hard to make another.
Toto lowered his head, laughing. When he imagined his family with Elisabeth, she usually had a little boy in her arms. However, when he heard Niki talk about wanting a granddaughter, he couldn't help but wonder what she would be like. Maybe he looked like Rosi when she was little, with round cheeks and light hair, but she would have Elisabeth's eyes, in that delicate shade of blue that took his breath away.
— Okay, those conditions are agreeable.
— Well, that means everything is okay on my part — the ex-driver said, smiling — By the way, do you know when you're going to propose?
— Well, I — Toto started to explain, when he heard a knock on the door, accompanied by a muffled voice from the hallway
— Dad, are you in there? — Elisabeth said.
Toto plucked the box off of the top of Niki’s desk and clumsily tucked it into the pocket of his shorts. His heart was still pounding in his chest when the door opened and Elisabeth's face appeared through the crack.
— Oh, am I interrupting something?
Niki smiled.
— No, we were just catching up. Come in, Mauslein.
Elisabeth walked in the door with a shy smile on her lips. She was wearing a short white dress with lacelike embroidery at the neckline. She looked like she'd just stepped out of the shower, her wet curls spilling over her shoulders. With her skin flushed from the afternoon sun contrasting with her blue eyes, she was a heavenly vision.
“How was I able to live without her for forty years?”, Toto asked himself, as Elisabeth leaned back on the arm of the armchair he was sitting in, putting an arm around his shoulders.
— You’d better not be talking about work — she said, tilting her head to look at him.
— No, no, we're talking about something else — Toto said, looking at Niki, trying to find a plausible excuse for their conversation.
— He was telling me that you took him to a very beautiful place today — her father said, a sly smile on his face — But I think he spent more time appreciating you than the scenery.
— Dad — Elisabeth said, her voice scolding.
— I'm just making an observation, since you two apparently don't know that if you're going to do anything on a beach, you need to bring a towel.
— Dad! — she exclaimed, her face turning red.
— Just saying, Mauslein.
— That is… Completely unnecessary — Elisabeth said, rolling her eyes.
Afterwards, she invited the two of them to go downstairs for something to drink and relax on the porch with the rest of the family. Niki was on his feet immediately, grabbing his red cap and placing it on his head before escorting his daughter out of the office. They chatted about riding horses the following morning as they walked down the hallway.
Getting up from the armchair, Toto put a hand in the pocket of his shorts, feeling the velvet ring box with his fingertips, his chest tightening with anxiety again at the thought of kneeling and offering Elisabeth the ring as the sun went down on the horizon. There was no reason to wait any longer.
The first step needed to be taken.
Sun sign in Taurus 🫡
Okay so Sun in Taurus quincunx Pluto in Sagittarius
Sun in Taurus is sensual, can be a little possessive in love and look at partners as property, they love Venusian things like jewelry, clothes, good food, shopping, etc. They like material things; they like the designer bags and expensive clothes and diamonds. Taurus is steady in terms of building things since it's Earth sign (like a tree!). Taurus is fixed meaning they are soooo stubborn but they're also definitive, they are what they are and they don't want to budge for anyone.
Pluto in Sagittarius is a generational aspect. Pluto in Sagittarius generation transforms through wisdom... they want to learn and know everything. They want to experience things, they want to travel, and these people are in search of their truth. "Who am I? What is my life purpose?"
I imagine Sun in Taurus here going about their day and Pluto in Sagittarius being that annoying voice in its head. Sun in Taurus dates to marry, they take awhile to warm up to relationships but the relationships they get in tend to be long term and serious. Sagittarius isn't as serious with dating and love. They don't view others as "mine", they're more free flowing. Sun in Taurus holds value in purses, jewelry, food, clothes, etc. Pluto in Sagittarius wants to experience things; it's saying "Taurus stop spending all the money on food, let's go to IBIZA or JAPAN". And Taurus is like "No. I'll stay here. I need a 5 year notice to go any further than 20 miles". Taurus rarely changes their views and opinions, they truly believe in what they believe in. Taurus says "Stealing is bad, bad people steal and should be punished" and Sagittarius replies "What about people that can't afford food? What about people trying to feed their kids?" and Taurus does a double take. See they're different and Taurus doesn't like what Sag is about and Sag doesn't like what Taurus is about.
OUTFIT IDEA:
Zoo date edition?
Bec + Bridge — Clover Dress in dark chocolate ($240 only available in black or white now) • Loewe — Ibiza bucket hat ($550)
Replace the Hermes sandals with Birkenstock sandals and bring either a canvas tote or mini canvas backpack (or anything not leather— the texture & look of leather would look weird with the rest of the outfit). Hair is okay straight, but I feel like wavy hair would look cuter. Keep it simple with the jewelry: Wear the everyday diamond stud earrings and maybe just 1 ring.
I met him around 1974 because our magazine dedicated to them one of the "fotonovelas" ( a comic-like story with photos instead of drawings) we used to do. I think it was the first time they came to Spain. I clicked on with Mercury immediately, we liked each other very much. We had interests in common, he liked that I combed his hair, painted his fingernails and exchanged bracelets and jewelry. He was a fantastic man with great sensibility and an immense talent for music, able to compose extraordinary tracks such as Bohemian Rhapsody. We became friends since then and when we saw each other he was very nice and kind to me, as if we were lifelong friends and had just seen each other the day before. We met six or seven times; the last one was two years before he died, when he celebrated his birthday in Tony Pikes Hotel in Ibiza and he invited me. His illness hadn't developed much yet and he was beaming and very happy to be among friends.
🔸December 13th, 1974, Barcelona, Spain - Queen chatting with ‘Rock'n'Roll Popular 1’ Spanish magazine redactor Bertha M. Yebra, who also is combing Freddie’s hair in the first picture, for a photoshot session with Martín Frías (known as Martin J. Louis)
Bertha M. Yebra (editora de la revista musical 'Popular1', amiga)
“El vaig conèixer cap a l’any 1974 perquè a la revista vam dedicar a Queen una de les fotonovel·les que fèiem. Crec que va ser el primer cop que visitaven Espanya. Amb Mercury va sorgir de seguida una connexió especial, ens vam caure molt bé. Teníem aficions comunes, li agradava que el pentinés, que li pintés les ungles i que intercanviéssim braçalets i joies. Era un home fantàstic, amb una gran sensibilitat, i un talent descomunal per a la música, capaç de compondre temes tan extraordinaris com 'Bohemian rhapsody'. Des de llavors vam ser sempre amics i quan ens retrobàvem era molt afectuós i atent amb mi, com si fóssim amics de tota la vida i ens acabéssim de veure el dia abans. Vam coincidir sis o set vegades més, l’última dos anys abans de morir, quan va celebrar el seu aniversari a l’hotel Tony Pikes d’Eivissa i em va convidar. La malaltia encara no se li havia desenvolupat gaire i estava radiant, contentíssim de trobar-se amb els amics”.
