Un-alone, Chapter 19
Follow this link!
“C’mon Marty, we gotta go.”
The German Shepherd brought the stick he had found back to Mundy and sat down, his eyes pleading.
“Alright, last throw and then we gotta hit the road otherwise we’ll never get there before the sun sets, ok?”
“Woof!” The dog went to his four paws in a flash and wagged his tail frantically.
“Alright, go!” Mundy threw the stick on the parking lot of the hotel and the dog ran to fetch it.
“Micky, you’re ready, son?”
“Yeah, oh, let me help you, Uncle Phil.” Mundy went to his uncle and helped him hop on his seat in the car.
“Ah, thank you, son, that’s perfect… Thanks.”
“It’s nothin’, here, gimme your cane, I’ll put it behind ya.”
“Micky, you sure you didn’t forget anythin’ in the hotel?” Caroline popped out of reception and into the parking lot.
“I slept in me van, Mum, you should ask Uncle Phil. “
“Phil?”
“Nah, we’re fine, c'mon Carrie!”
“Alright, alright.”
There were another few hours of driving and the landscape changed as the family neared the coast. Mundy followed his mother and uncle driving the car in front of him and soon, Marty became restless on his seat.
“Recognise the place, mate?”
The dog barked enthusiastically, his tail wagging against the passenger’s seat. He was turning left and right.
“Yeah, you know it, good boy… Oh, that’s where Mum’s parkin’, hm… Guess I'll have to park on the sidewalk… Here… There we go."
A few hours later, all their belongings were moved inside Philip's vacation house. The family had had dinner and Philip was on the sofa, following whatever game was on that night with Marty laying beside him.
"Thanks for helpin' me with the dishes, Micky."
Caroline and her son were in the kitchen. She was washing and he was rinsing.
"You're welcome, Mum."
"I'm sure a few days with the sea breeze will help Phil as much as it will you." She said and Mundy raised an eyebrow.
"What d'you mean?"
"Y'know…" Caroline cast a glance at the kitchen door and saw that it was open. She quickly rinsed her hands and went to close it before resuming her position next to Mundy. "Your breakup…?" She hesitantly added and Mundy nodded, not because he agreed, but because he remembered. His mother was thinking that the reason why he was avoiding talking about his feelings, was because he had broken up with a woman and his heart was aching...
Well, aching his heart was.
Not because of a heartbreak, Mundy simply felt like in the end he would be alone because he had nothing to offer, nothing but road trips, hunting animals, people, puttin ghis supposed loved on in danger through that and oh, yeah, a very poor ability to actually talk to people, verbalise what he felt outside of the confines of his own head…
He sighed.
“I don’t wanna pry or anythin’ but uh…” Caroline’s voice pulled the Aussie out of his daydream. “When we were in New Mexico, had you found someone else? I mean, we’ve travelled pretty far and uh…”
“Mum.” Mundy stopped her yet could not look her in the eye. Each time he did, a voice screamed in his head “Liar! Liar! Tell her! Tell her you prefer blokes over sheilas! She doesn’t deserve you lie to her! You’re the worst son she could ever have and it’s all your fault! You’re breaking her heart!”
Mundy screwed his eyes shut and shook his head to shake those thoughts away.
“No… No I hadn’t, and even if I had, I don’t care.” He put the plate he had in his hand down and left the kitchen. Soon after, Caroline heard the very familiar sound of the van’s engine rumbling away, and sighed.
The Aussie drove first to let his frustration out, and when it did pass, he started paying attention to his surroundings. It was all new afterall… He realised that it was what all the beach cities must look like: restaurants, nightclubs, theme parks for families.
Families.
Huh. Mundy shook his head. He would have loved to have one of his one, someone to go home to, someone to hold, to feel the warmth of. And he had nothing against a sheila and a few kids, he really didn’t. He just had a slight preference for men, that was true; that, and there was the issue with his job too.
“God damn it…” He sighed.
Being paid to put bullets in things was hard enough on himself, he didn’t want to put that burden on anyone else with him. And sometimes those things weren’t just beasts, they were people too… The truth was that Mundy was a paid killer, a mercenary, jumping from contract to contract. When someone needed some lead in their head, he was called in, and more recently, it was even the officials who called to him for his extraordinary tracking abilities. Mundy could find anyone and anything, as long as it had blood pumping in its veins.
He had thought about quitting, multiple times at that. But then what would he do? Farming with his parents? He was already helping them out from time to time and he didn’t like the idea of taking too much responsibility on the farm. At the end of the day, he didn’t want his parents to think that he wanted to take over, the farm was way too big a responsibility for him, especially alone.
Eventually, Mundy parked somewhere, it was a free parking lot. He lowered his window, just a bit, for some fresh air, and he leaned back on his seat, closing his eyes. He dreamt. He dreamt of a man, the man who will make his days flip upside down, a man who would understand him and somehow, manage to bear him through his muteness, through his silence and hardest of all, through his difficulty to express what he felt.
Mundy could of course partake in a little exercise of introspection, as he was doing right now; It was practically a compulsory hobby. Anytime he felt low, he would look into himself, as if he didn’t know why, or as if that particular time the answer would be different. Nah, in truth, Mundy just didn’t know what else he could do but think about his misery on his own. The hard part, and the step that he never took was to take everything he knew about himself, about what frustrated him or made him happy, extracting all of that from his insides to bring it outside, for someone to hear. Even his mother was unaware of half the things he was thinking.
Maybe that was one of the issues he could address as opposed to focusing on dreaming about a man he hadn’t met yet? Maybe that was the “easy” thing to fix and maybe fixing it would bring him some peace?
Mundy opened his eyes and it was night time. He looked around him to see that the city was still busy, even if it was winter now there, the beach still attracted quite a lot of people.
"Right." He started the engine and headed back home.
When he entered the house, Marty came to the door to greet him.
"Hey, Marty, yeah, you're good boy… Oh? Marty, leave my hand alone. Marty-? Alright, alright, I'll follow ya…"
The German Shepherd led the Aussie to the door of his uncle's bedroom.
"He must be asleep, Marty, you'll see him tomor-"
"Come in, Micky." Phil said from the inside and Mundy pushed the door.
"Sorry, Uncle Phil, it's Marty. I don't know why he pulled my hand all the way here."
"It's fine, Micky, I asked him to. Marty, shut the door, boy."
The dog pushed the door until it clicked shut.
"He's a very clever dog." Mundy said.
"Yeah, I got him cause he was too soft to work with us drug sniffin'."
"Oh, I see."
"C'mere and have a seat, Micky." Philip was in his bed. He scooted to free some space for Mundy to sit at his side.  “I wanted to have a chat with you, y’know, only men kinda talk…”
The Aussie sighed.
“See? Your Mum’s all worried about ya. Now, I told her you’re one big man and you know what you’re doin’, she shouldn’t meddle in your business.”
"But?" Mundy anticipated.
"But she told me things, see?"
"What did she tell you?"
"That you got yourself a woman and for some reason, you ain't together anymore, and that's why you're all sad and in your own world."
"Pfff…" Mundy sighed and shook his head.
"Now, boy, these things do happen all the time, y'know. It ain't necessarily bad. If anythin', it's better to go each your way if you're not meant together."
"Yeah, guess you’re right.”
“Believe me, Micky. Besides, young and handsome as you are, I’m sure you’ll find someone else quick enough, eh?”
“Yeah… I wish…”
“Son?” Phil was confused. He expected to see his nephew in a better mood after a little chat, but Mundy looked worse. “What is it…?”
“Nothin’. I’ll let you sleep now, g’night, Uncle Phil.”
And as usual, Mundy disappeared, leaving his uncle confused as to what he was thinking. The Aussie's mind was as impenetrable as Buckingham Palace itself or the White House…
The next morning, Mundy found his mother and his uncle chatting in the kitchen when he woke up.
"Micky, we were thinkin' of havin' a walk by the beach. Your uncle's physio says it's good for him to walk a bit more now, and we reckon Marty's gonna love it." Caroline said. "You wanna come with us?"
"Sure. I'll just have some coffee before we go." Mundy took a seat at the breakfast table.
"You wrap your neck in a scarf, yeah?" Caroline poured him some coffee. "It's cold outside. And we should get you a beanie, it's gettin' really cold now."
"My hat's fine, Mum."
"It's fine until you catch a cold and then who's gonna have to take care of a big baby with a running nose…?" Caroline asked and Mundy smiled.
"Alright, we'll get some beanies for everyone then." Mundy smiled and took a sip of his coffee. Marty came to the Aussie. "Hey Marty." Mundy patted his head and the dog wagged his tail enthusiastically.
"Right," Phil said and stood up. "I'll go and put on somethin' decent…"
"I brought your thick winter jacket, Phil, you'll find it in your big bag." Caroline said.
"Carrie, I'm not yer son!"
"Uncle Phil, don't even try, even Dad can't tell her anythin' about that…" Mundy said.
"Right, woman, I'll do it your way…" Phil left the kitchen, leaving mother and son alone.
"I had your dad on the phone yesterday." Caroline said.
"Oh, how's he doin'?"
"Same old," She answered and finished her coffee. "He's alright, the chickens and geese aren't missin' us too much apparently."
"Is he managin' on his own to take them to the market?"
"Yeah, he says it's fine. Jimmy comes to lend a hand on the weekends."
"Ah, that's nice of him."
"He sometimes comes after school when he feels like it." Caroline said and Mundy nodded. "His parents encourage him to work with us during the holidays."
"He's only a kid though, can't have him be there full-time I guess." Mundy said.
"Yeah, nah, you're right. His parents told me he wasn't doing so good at school, so they try to give him a bit of work to do. We talked with them a lot. Jimmy's learnin' fast and he likes it at the farm."
"Wanna hire him when he finishes school?"
"Your dad and I are thinkin' about it." Caroline said and nodded to herself. "We aren't getting any younger and it'd be good to leave the farm to someone… Now, we know you like it but not to the point of workin' full time there."
Mundy lowered his head.
"Yeah… I wish it was all different." Mundy took the last gulp of his coffee and left, not giving his mother any chance to ask him what he meant.
The Aussie put some warm clothes on and kept thinking. He wished it was all different. He wished he had been better at school and right now he would have had an office job, nice nine to five kind of routine, a car, a house of his own, a sheila and a few kids…
He could also have liked farming more, and then he would have taken the responsibility of his parent's farm after them. The business would stay in the family and Mike and Caroline wouldn't feel like a lifelong effort of taking care of chickens and geese went down the drain…
Mundy could have not preferred men or liked them at all. That way, it would surely have been a thousand times easier to find someone to settle with. He himself was very shy but females sometimes went to talk to him, hit on him even, but men? Never, or so rarely…
"Hm."
Mundy took Marty's tennis balls with him and went to get the dog on the leash.
"Marty? C'mere, big boy, we need to put you on the leash."
Marty rose from his bed and trotted to Mundy before he sat down in front of him.
"We're gonna go for a walk, Marty."
The dog's ears pricked up and his tail wagged faster.
"Oh, you got that, didn't you? You clever boy…"
Caroline and Philip joined him in the living-room.
"You boys have everythin' you need?"
"Yeah." Both Philip and Mundy agreed.
"Then let's go."
They left the house and walked only a few minutes before reaching the sand.
"You live very close to the beach, Uncle Phil."
"Yeah, got that house a long time ago. There weren't that many tourists and everything was so much cheaper…!" The old man was holding on to his sister's arm to walk. "Now, everythin's so painfully expensive… Oh, you can get Marty off the leash, let the boy enjoy the beach."
"Sure, c'mere Marty." Mundy took a second to undo the leash and took the tennis ball from his pocket. As soon as the dog saw it, he started barking eagerly. "Alright, alright, catch this!" Mundy threw the ball far away in the sand and Marty ran after it at full speed.
"He likes the exercise, this dog." Phil said.
"Course he does." Caroline answered. "Back when the farm was bigger we had a couple of dogs, they kept the chickens safe in the nights. They're very smart, eh."
"So smart we get them to join the police…!'' Phil answered. "That's what Marty was supposed to do, but even as early as a puppy, he was way too gentle and soft, wasn't bad at the obedience stuff, but no predatory instincts whatsoever in this boy. He could have ended drug sniffin', but he wasn't very enthusiastic about it either, so I took him in."
"You did well." Caroline said and Marty came back with the ball, he gave it to Mundy who threw it away again.
The three of them were walking in the sand, along the shore. The air was salty with the proximity of the sea and the breeze was icy but through that, they all breathed some better air. Besides, Marty was loving the large space to play fetch.
"Y'all should come back with Mike in the summer." Phil resumed his speech. "The sun shines beautifully, the water's lovely and this part of the beach isn't as touristy as the rest."
"And who would take care of the farm?" Caroline asked rhetorically.
"You could hire up some folks for summer. I'm sure there are plenty of young people who'd be happy to feed chickens and sell them before college starts again." Phil answered.
"Yeah… We always say we'd do that with Mike but it never happens in the end."
Marty came back, dropped the ball in Mundy's hand and went to run towards the water. He got his legs wet, jumped on the froth coming to him, trying to bite it, and ran back to Mundy for more playtime.
"Why'd you never do it?" Phil asked his sister.
"Cause we have no reason to not take care of the farm… We like it."
"Have you ever been on a holiday, Carrie?"
"O'course I have!"
"Your honeymoon doesn't count." Phil added and Caroline sighed.
"Phil…"
"You haven't, have you? I'm not judgin', Carrie, just saying. I was like you, eh? No holiday on duty. But now, with my bad leg, I've learnt to take some time off and it's not bad."
"Yeah… I reckon you're right but uh…"
"Feelin' bad for the chickens and geese?"
Marty came back again and Mundy threw the ball for him. He then dusted his hands off of the sand and put them in his pockets.
His parents had never taken a bit of holiday since forever. They cared a lot about their farm and it would surely feel weird for them to stop. Mundy understood it in the sense that if he had been asked to stop hunting completely, he would feel lost.
Well, he had been asked to stop completely, and multiple times at that. His parents weren't supporting his choice of profession, and Mundy's father grew more and more keen on his son taking over the farm. As Mundy grew into hunting more and more, Mike's frustration with the realisation that his son had other plans than taking the family business grew too. Father and son weren't on the best terms and tried to keep their disagreements away from Caroline, but she was far from stupid and knew that she was the only reason that Mundy and Mike still talked.
"I'm just sayin', Carrie. If you wanna come back come summer time with Mike and Micky, I can give you the house for a few weeks." Phil went on.
"That's very nice of you, Phil." Caroline answered.
Their voices were a blur on which Mundy was writing his thoughts. He took a deep breath of sea breeze and looked around him. There were a few people here and there, a few happy dogs enjoying their outing as much as Marty was. Mundy's eye lingered on the occasional couples. He had passed the age to feel jealousy towards them, or even envy. What he felt was the bitter punch of knowing that there had been no one so far who had made a positive difference to his days, no one with whom he could have a decent bit of conversations, no one who had seen in him more than a hunting vagabond, and a promise for an assorted, nomadic adventure. A trip with a starting line but no arrival.
Mundy sighed.
Looking back at the past and seeing the emptiness that all of Mundy’s previous encounters left was one thing, the bitterness of it was one thing, but what really hurt was that stubborn glimmer of hope that he could not shake off, however hard he tried. And God knew how he tried, he tried to look at the facts: a man with a man was unthinkable enough, a man with him, the loner, the socially awkward, ever stammering, unable to communicate his feelings to even his mother, a mess of an almost forty-year-old man.
Oh he wished. He wished he could open himself wide open and scoop that hope out of him because in truth, that was what was killing him. That part of him that believed that one day, he would open his van’s door to see a pair of masculine eyes full of love, loving him as much as he did them…
God, why did he have to bear the double sentence of preferring men over women and hoping to find one…?

A Flicker Of You - September 1st
Summary: Ghost AU. If you could change someone's fate, would you? Death is at the end of everyone's road and always comes when you least expect it. It’s irreversible, except maybe for a flickering soul who haunts her own life and is shown that the red string stretches even into the afterlife.
Part 1.
Pairing: Nalu
Genre: supernatural, mystery, humour
-
Natsu stuffed his hands into his pockets, hot breath mixing with the cool air to form a puff of fog. His dark eyes shifted uneasily over his surroundings, occasionally letting out a hiss as he tripped on a stump covered in crumpled dried leaves or having his foot sink into the wet dirt, suctioning onto the bottom of his shoes. He felt the itch to whine as he and his friends trudged further into the woods. Though, he knew his pride would never allow him to voice his own thoughts.
The young man didn’t think that Gajeel had meant this when he called them to have a ‘bit of fun,’ as he had described it.
Heading into the woods by the outskirts of Magnolia in the cold and middle of the night had never made Natsu’s list of fun. Not once. The tall pine trees made him feel small, their shadows making the forest even darker as it blocked out the pale moonlight and every snap of a twig had the hairs on his arm standing on end. He wouldn’t admit it, but the east forest had always given him the creeps and he generally tried to avoid it.
It was a feeling he couldn’t shake. Ever since he had come here in his junior year - a stupid bet to see who could last the longest out in the ‘haunted woods.’
It had been fine at first. Natsu didn’t believe in monsters, or anything supernatural. Especially not ghosts. There was nothing in this forest that could hurt him. Except a wild animal, or possibly a serial killer, but he had shoved that thought to the back of his mind and laughed as he and his friends all ventured into the thick foliage.
He shook his head, pushing back down the growing knot in his stomach as his mind veered to what that stupid bet had led to. He had hit his head back then. That was all. Though, Natsu still couldn’t wipe away the memory of what he thought he saw that day.
The air had nipped at the back of his neck and the overhanging dark branches left him feeling uneasy as the wood forked out like a skeletal cage. The spring fog had blanketed the floor, the forest pitch black as the grey clouds covered any light that would filter through the trees. He couldn’t shake the sense that there was someone behind him, his smile slowly fading as he kept glancing back - eyes flicking from side to side before turning around to the back of his friends who were all pushing each other as they screamed out into the night.
He wasn’t afraid of anything, at least that’s what he had repeated to himself. There was nothing that he couldn’t protect himself from, and if he could fight it then he saw no reason to be scared.
Natsu still believed that.
Though, that night - he had stiffened when a chill had climbed up his spine, paralyzing him in place. He frantically searched for his friends that had been just ahead of him and felt his throat close up before he could speak. Yet, their forms had disappeared as the expanse of the forest stretched out before him. His stomach had dropped as he smelt the stale scent of perfume and he immediately jerked his head behind him.
Then he saw it. The light burned at his eyes, yet Natsu couldn’t bring himself to look away. He was stock-still as he locked eyes with… something. The wind picked up around him, pink locks whipping across his face as he heard a soft voice whisper into his ear.
“Please. Help me.”
The light got brighter until he eventually had to force his eyes to close and then he had awoken, chest heaving and drenched in sweat. His green eyes were blown wide as he came face to face with his friends who had all gathered around him. He had refused to calm down, pushing himself across the ground, smearing dirt along his jeans as he fisted clumps of leaves and rocks in his hands.
It had taken them a moment before he would listen to them. His best friend, Lisanna, was called out in the middle of the night so that she could take him home as he couldn’t stop shaking. They were convinced he was concussed. Though, nothing he had experienced had ever matched with what they said. Except for the gash across his cheek that indicated to them of his nasty fall once they had found him unconscious at the bottom of a steep hill.
Natsu rubbed at the prominent scar that had been left on his face from that night as he swallowed and looked over his shoulder, fisting the cloth of his pants inside his pockets before he tried to steady his breathing. That same feeling seemed to be resting on his shoulders at this moment - the lingering weight that had him rushing to keep close to Gray who stood a step ahead of him.
Natsu had sworn to himself that he would keep his distance from this place no matter what. Yet, he had allowed himself to be dragged out once his shift had ended at the ghoulish hour of 2am and he followed begrudgingly after Gajeel and Gray.
“What’s wrong? You scared or somethin,’ Natsu?”
He looked back up, eyes locking with his friends that had a smirk playing on his lips causing Natsu to scowl.
“Of course not!” He yelled, pulling his foot from the mud and taking another step after them. “I would never be scared of some shitty forest.”
Gray pulled a face, his smirk disappearing as his lips twisted into a frown and brows drew inwards. “Shitty forest? What the fuck does that even mean?” He turned his eyes up, gliding over the large trunks that towered over them as they walked before his smile returned. “You’re just mad that you’re scared of some trees.”
“Why don’t you come a little closer and say that.” Natsu gritted his teeth, fists already raising as Gray turned around and stopped. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted as a screech resounded throughout the woods.
Natsu jumped back and all eyes turned up as an owl flew overhead, large wings spread out as it came to perch on one of the branches above them. It ruffled its feathers, head twisting around as it stared at them with large yellow eyes that seemed to be illuminated in the dark. A moment passed between the trio, the silence of the forest consuming them once again until Gajeel laughed.
“Ghi-hi, Not scared, huh?”
Natsu buried his face further into his scarf, grumbling as he did so, “I just got caught off guard is all.”
Gray clapped a hand on his shoulder. He didn’t suppress his grin as he chuckled alongside Gajeel. “Sure. Don’t worry – I won’t tell anyone how chicken shit you are.”
“Yeah.” Gajeel started walking again, adjusting the bag hanging off his shoulder. “He won’t, but I sure as hell will.”
He shrugged off Gray’s hand, as they both started to laugh once more, and trudged after the leading male. “What are we doin’ out here anyways? You never even told us what you had dragged us out here for.” Natsu dug his hands further into his pockets, almost as if he could feel the air bite through his clothes. “It’s fucking freezing.”
“Speak for yourself. I think it’s nice out,” Gray murmured from his side and he threw him a burning glare, ready to butt heads with his raven-haired friend who let the breeze cool his exposed arms in his singlet.
“We’re conductin’ an experiment of sorts.” Gajeel ignored the bickering, his gravelly voice drawing both males’ attention. “Shrimp and I have another score to settle.”
“What?” Natsu shouted, “We’re out here cause you had another disagreement with Levy?”
Gray crossed his arms, his scowl mirroring Natsu’s annoyance. “You can’t bring us along every time you have a bet with your girlfriend. Especially when we all know you’re going to lose.” They both nodded in perfect sync. “That’s what you get for dating someone who’s too smart for you.”
“Oi,” Gajeel turned around, eyes blazing as he raised his fist at them, “Shrimp and I are neck and neck! And I ain’t losin’ this time around so expect a new winner after this.”
Gray rolled his eyes. “Yeah? So what exactly are we ‘experimenting’ with then?” His face didn’t change from it’s uncaring expression as he waited for Gajeel to answer. Though, Natsu felt himself lean back a bit, his muscles stiffening as their friend laughed into the night.
“Ghi-hi, we’re…”
The pause had a shiver run up Natsu’s spine and he only realised how creepy Gajeel really looked cloaked in the forest’s shadows with his piercings glinting in the slithers of light that shone down on them.
“...ghost huntin’.”
He raised up his arms, moving his fingers for extra emphasis as his lips quirked up into a wicked smirk. His black hair fell forward, framing his mischievous expression as his red eyes lit up with his excitement.
Gray scoffed. “You have to be fucking with us.”
Though, Natsu froze up. His eyes blew wide, much like a rabbit staring a predator in the face as he took in a sharp breath. The urge to turn around pricked at the base of his neck as the hair on his arms rose and he took an involuntary step backwards - the crunch of leaves sending shivers all the way up from his ankle.
The weight on his shoulders made his knees weak as he swallowed. If he were to actually believe in those types of things then maybe he would’ve caught onto the familiar scent that seemed to pass in the second he took in a deep breath of air, or the shift in temperature as he suddenly felt way too hot in his jacket. But, he didn’t believe in that. He didn’t believe in ghosts and it was just his nerves messing with him from that night he had hit his head all that time ago.
Natsu shook his head, rolling his shoulders as he tried to brush off the anxiousness that was making knots in his gut.
His actions weren’t noticed by his friends. Both gearing up as Gajeel breathed air out his nose, fists clenched as he gritted out his rebuttal to Gray's disbelief.
“They are too real! N’ I’m gonna prove it.” He stuck a thumb towards his chest before he brought it back to point at the man in front of him. “To you and Lev’s.” His smirk turned into a grin, large and full of teeth. “Shrimp won’t even know what hit her when I tell her about the spooky shit we got goin’ on here.”
There was a pause before Gray spoke again, looking completely unimpressed as his dark locks swayed in the slight breeze in the forest. “Right. And you expect to find these ‘ghosts’ how?” He unlocked his arms from their place crossed against his chest, bringing up two fingers to quote Gajeel.
The Cheshire smirk was back in place as Gajeel tapped his nose. “I’ve done my research. Don’t doubt that, Ice Queen.”
He turned back to walking and Gray fought the urge to roll his eyes again, following his hard-headed idiotic friend - Natsu doing the same as he looked around hesitantly.
“You didn’t think I just took you out into the east forest without being prepared, would ya?” Gajeel shouted over his shoulder. “I’ve got it all worked out.” They continued trudging through the forest, yet his voice accompanied the wind now instead of the three men walking in silence.
“It might not be apparent to you two idiots, but there’s a helluva lot of signals if you’ve got the trained eye - and if you prepare for the right circumstances.” He snickered, “Ghi-hi, we’ve just gotta find the right spot. Then you’ll see.”
Gray couldn’t help himself as he spat. “Absolute bullshit. You just read about this on wikipedia, didn’t you?”
Natsu swallowed, hands squeezed tight in his pockets. He made sure to clear his voice before he spoke, forcing himself to join into the conversation as they continued to walk, “Yeah. Ghosts aren’t real, Metal Head.”
Gajeel stopped abruptly and held up a hand causing the two behind him to come to a halt. Both of the males raised a brow, but he only jostled in his pocket to pull out his phone. There was a moment as he fiddled with the device and then he held it up, the screen calling Levy.
“Just what in the world do you think you’re -”
“Shhhhh,” Gajeel hushed, a piercing glare being thrown at a grumbling Gray as they waited for the call to connect. Though, there was only the steady beep that followed as it failed.
Natsu would’ve hoped that meant there was no signal out here, but the shit eating grin that formed on Gajeel’s face was enough for him to know that it wasn’t the only thing it was telling the self-named ‘ghost hunter.’
He took in a breath of air. “I think this is it.”
Natsu looked over their surroundings. This part of the forest looked the same as the rest of what they had seen on the walk here. He didn’t know what he had been expecting - an alter? Or maybe a small clearing. Yet, the trees here seemed to close in and tower above them, the foliage so thick on the ground that he sunk down to his shins.
“You’re full of it,” Gray countered, but the dark haired male was already stepping forward as Gajeel started unzipping his backpack and was handing off the contents to his friend.
Natsu’s eyes blew wide. “What’d ya think you’re doing with all that shit? You planning on killing us and starting a porno out of it?” He watched Gray fiddle with the camera, large and chunky as he held it with both hands whilst he booted it up. The next thing was a tarp as Gajeel smoothed it over the ground before his eyes looked up at Natsu with an annoyed look. “I don’t know about Gray, but I am not into this!”
“Not today, punk.” He placed a candle on the floor that looked like it was from Kmart until another camera followed - smaller in size that Gajeel set beside him. “Now, what’re you doing just standing around ‘ere? Help me would ya.”
He had to stop himself from grumbling, only narrowing his brows as he came to kneel on the tarp that he had set down on the ground, crunching underneath his added weight. “What do you want me to do?”
The smile he got in return made him feel uneasy. “You’re gonna play the main part, pinky.”
Natsu watched as he finally pulled out the last thing. A box. There was no branding. Just a plain, stale white box that was ripped on the edges and looked as if it was falling apart whilst being lined in a thick layer of dust. Gajeel handled it carefully as he pulled open the side and slid out a wooden board that had Natsu reeling back.
“I’m not fucking using that!”
“Don’t be such a pussy, Natsu,” The man in front of him chided, ”All you’ve got to do is slide this thing around and say some shit. Come on - you owe me.”
Natsu scowled. “I don’t owe you shit. And why can’t you or Gray do it?”
“I’m filming,” Gray shrugged, a smile on his face as he seemed to focus the camera on Natsu’s disgruntled expression.
Gajeel shoved it further into his face. “And I’ve got to make sure he doesn’t miss anything by setting up another angle. This has gotta be good if Shrimp is gonna accept the fact that I’m right, Knucklehead.” His pierced brows narrowed. “And you remember when I worked a double shift last month to cover ya ass. Don’t think that I would forget about that.”
“Fine.” Natsu grabbed the board alongside the planchette before he shoved it on the ground in front of him.
“Wait-” Gajeel lit the candle and placed it in front of the board before he pulled back as he fiddled with the camera. “I’ll tell ya when I’m ready.”
The nerves built up in Natsu’s gut, his eyes burning holes in the board as he looked over the numbers and letters marked in ink on the wood. He had seen an ouija board enough times in movies to know what it was, but had never actually had one or used it. He didn’t mess with shit like this. It was unrealistic and he had seen people crack the myths surrounding them so he saw no point. Yet, he couldn’t help feeling on edge - a strange sensation pulling through his hair as the wind eased off.
He didn’t like this.
“Off you go.” Gajeel was grinning as he held up the camera alongside Gray. “It’s time to get summoning!”
Natsu eased his eyes back to the camera before he grumbled, pulling up his scarf as he grabbed onto the planchette. It was smooth between his fingers and he sucked in a quick breath as he slowly put it onto the board. He hesitated, but not from the ouija board. Natsu could feel something in the air, the similar presence stirring up more memories of that night that he had tried to push down. The candle flickered as the hairs on his neck stood up, yet he hadn’t started moving.
He flicked his eyes to the side of him. There was no zap of energy as he had his hand firmly pressed against the wood, but the feeling of something behind him was growing and he couldn’t help but feeling more anxious as more time passed.
“Hurry up.” Gray drawled, shoulders sagging as he looked bored. “Let’s just get this over with so we can go home.”
“Right.” Natsu sucked in a breath. The quicker he proved that there was nothing out here the quicker he could go home and sleep. He would be out of this stupid forest in no time and then he could never step foot in here ever again. A new life rule that he would follow - do not fuck with this east forest.
He cleared his throat. “Is, uh... anyone here?” It felt weird asking the question out loud, waiting for a response from the board as silence met the three males. Natsu tried to keep his hand loose, but his muscles were tensing as he struggled to keep his cool. His patience was wearing thin as the minutes passed - eyes flicking up occasionally to check their surroundings.
“I told you this was bullshit, Gajeel,” Gray stated, but the male in turn raised up a hand.
“It takes time!” He shouted, “Ya have to wait. Natsu, ask again.”
Natsu grit his teeth as he glared. “Would anyone like to prove this goddamn idiot right so we can all go home already?” His breathing was becoming more laboured as his agitation grew - stomach twisting into knots as he kept looking around the forest. There was something there, the sensation of someone behind him growing stronger and stronger giving him the urge to run.
“Hey - Natsu, are you alright?”
Gray spoke up, but he ignored him as he started again. “C’mon fuckers. Show yourself! If ghosts are real then prove it. Make some noise.” His voice was laced with anger. “We’re all waiting.” Natsu was no longer looking at the board, turning around himself as he stared out into the dark, but he saw nothing - only feeling the heat soak into his clothes as he started to sweat.
“Fuck this.” He stood up, letting the planchette clatter onto the thin wood. He wanted to get out of here, he wasn’t here to fuck with shit that didn’t exist. Though, he froze in place as he turned around. His green eyes were blown wide and his feet seemed to be buried in the mud beneath him.
“Oi! You’re not meant to let of -”
Though Gajeel didn’t get to finish as his camera began to sizzle and became hot in his hands. “Shit,” he cursed, letting the technology fall onto the foliage beneath him - Gray doing the same as he let out his own string of cusses beside him before meeting his gaze.
“Okay.” He sounded nervous now. “What the fuck is going on?”
Yet, neither could answer as Natsu screamed - blood curdling and making their hair stand on end as they both freezed up, staring at their friend who looked pale. His entire body was frozen in place as he stood with his back turned to them.
Natsu only had one thought in his head as he struggled to breathe, feeling his blood run cold as he came face to face with the transparent form of a girl in front of him.
I don’t believe in ghosts.

Hunting a Cryptid pt. 7
pt. 1 is here
I did continue for a bit and I’m hoping to eventually turn up the heat (for myself) again but I just hope I can spark the littlest of interest in this since, well, I really like it and I could use the motivation
Thanks if you do read it!
--------
"Did you even sleep? You look like you got hit by a truck."
"I'm fine, thanks."
They had decided to meet at Ayuya's house since the location was close to her place. When he turned up at her door at 1 PM as if he was about to go on a biker's roadtrip to alaska, she didn't even comment on the attire but raised a brow at the depth of his bags.
She opened the door a little further to welcome him inside.
"No but seriously," she persisted while she led him down the hall to her living room, "Did you sleep? You didn't just power through after a late shift, right?"
He just wordlessly sat down at her dinner table and looked at her sleepily. "No. I'm good."
She faked the beginning of a yawn. He tried to stifle his own yawn, with not much luck.
"Go to bed," she growled exasperatedly, heading to her kitchen for the tea she had set up. He whined.
"I'm fine. My shift ended at 7 so I snuck in a nap before coming here, big deal."
He was a liar. He did no such thing.
"If you're tired you shouldn't have agreed to meet with me at this time in the first place," she argued from her place behind the stove, getting tea from the cabinets. She shot him a look. "It can wait."
"Hey, I'm not the one who's gonna pout if the clues are washed away by then," he muttered while laying his head on the table. For cold wood it was very, very comfortable. He closed his eyes for a second.
He was startled by her setting a mug of tea on the table only inches away from his face.
"Tiro," she said with a stern voice but gentle eyes. "I mean it. Get some sleep."
He hoisted himself up with a groan. "Fine. After this. I wanna see where the bat went with my own two eyes."
She sighed loudly and planted herself in the opposing chair, her own teal mug in hand. "I'm giving you a free pass on the supernatural stuff, how can you say no to that?"
He sipped his tea. "It's not like I mind, though."
She looked at him like he had grown another head. He raised an eyebrow.
"What? Someone has to be your common sense filter."
She stood up soundlessly, walked up to the counter, grabbed a cookbook and slapped him with it on his arm with a glare. He laughed.
"Alright alright. Let's get this over with then?"
After finishing their tea (Tiro made a face like he burnt his tongue at one point) they walked towards the industrial area where she said the footage came from. They walked for about five minutes making small talk (giving Tiro the opportunity to wake up for a bit) they arrived at the right street. She halted.
"Alright, so," she pointed towards the factory in question, to the closest corner where he could see the camera hang, "that camera saw the bat move from uhhh," she backtracked a little to show the animal's location, "here... to...." she moved forward, keeping eye on the camera to get the angle right, "somewhere around here, where another camera picked up footage and the last we see the bat..." she trailed, taking a little sprint forward, Tiro just watching her with an amused look. She stops in her tracks at a junction just past the building. "Is here. Right here it gets out of camera range." She turns to him again. "Wanna split up to look for clues?"
He doesn't say much but joins her side. She glances at the various directions they could take.
"You see, this one right here," she points to the south of them when she got his attention, "is also still within line of sight of the camera's, but Ghi checked them and there was no bat to be seen. Which leaves," she turned back to the north and the east street, "these two. We can each take one, then come back here to share what we've seen?"
Tiro just nodded in agreement. "I'll take the north, you take east?"
Ayuya grinned. "Alright. Let's meet back here within 10. Take pictures if needed."
"You got it."
---------------------
When Ayuya got back at the meeting point after about seven minutes, she was the first one there. She hadn't found anything interesting so far, but there was more to comb out further down the road. She also had found a little convenience store that was open at night, so she could come back there later and ask if they've seen anything.
She glanced at her phone, but not long after she heard Tiro coming running towards her. He seemed frantic. A good frantic.
"You gotta see this. I think I found something."
She followed him immediately, mostly straight ahead but after two left turns showed her an ally. She looked at him confused.
"No, look," he went, as he grasped her hand in his gloved one and lead her a little inside the ally. Then she saw it. And smelled it, actually.
"That's... blood isn't it."
"Yeah. It got smeared, I think he tried to get rid of it fast."
"But not fast enough," she said taking a closer look to the smearing on the floor. The scent of iron filled her nostrils. "It's not that much to suggest it being from an assault or anything."
"It's also not clotted," Tiro pointed out with a disgusted face. "That should've been happening in normal circumstances..."
"... But saliva helps prevent clotting!" She finished his thought with a shine in her eye. "This could be a solid lead!"
"Could be?" He coughed. "I mean, what else could it be?"
She looked at him sceptically. "It could also be a guy who got punched in the nose one unfortunate night. It's a solid follow up, but we need more info."
She straightened her back and stretched. "Maybe I should look up some forensic stuff to see what else this stain can tell me. It's really too bad it got mostly wiped."
Tiro was flexing his hands in what seemed to be anticipation. "So we ask around?"
Ayuya nodded. "It would be nice to know if people did see something around here that night. The bat, or maybe even his human form."
They left the ally behind them to look around for passerby. Ayuya seemed still in thought.
"It's weird the blood is still here, though. Did nobody notice?"
Tiro shrugged.
"I mean, you also didn't notice initially did you?"
She pondered. "True..." she admitted. Something still nagged at her but she couldn't place what. Tiro yawned.
"Okay," she finally said. "You're going home now, mister. I can ask around for a while, no sweat. But you," she prodded in his chest, "have work tomorrow, so you should sleep." He rolled his eyes.
"Alright, fine. I'll go already," he sighed in defeat. "Just keep me updated, will you?"
"Will do." She grinned reassuredly. She gave him one more playful shove. "Now get some rest, you hobo."
-----------------
When she got home after researching a bunch, she flopped onto her couch without even taking her shoes off. She felt even too lazy to roll on her back, sighing contently into her decorative pillows. She moved her head to the side to breathe.
After she had sent Tiro home to bed she’d asked around at stores, passing people, and some that were just leaving the house to see if they had seen anything lately. Sadly enough, even though they seemed to have a great lead here, nobody had anything to report. Disappointing, to say the least. At least she could try to pinpoint the vampire’s route now.
She grunted and rolled over to sit up straight, pulling her laptop from the coffee table onto her lap. Opening google maps, she made a screenshot of the area and opened it in photoshop to try and draw out the possible routes the bat could’ve taken, taking in consideration the timeline of course.
She grabbed the notebook she had laid on the coffee table beside her laptop, folding it open where she had stuck her pen between pages.
“Tiro saw it crossing about two blocks from my house at approximately 1.15 AM...” she read to herself while drawing the estimated radius in red on a new layer.
“Then there’s the footage, which shows the bat moving down Mulberry lane at 1.18...”
She drew that line in purple.
“And then the blood, which doesn’t have a distinct time set on it, right here...”
She marked the ally in yellow and just went over the grid in her head.
“It’d fit if Tiro saw the bat from here...” she moved her finger from her house to the southeast part of the red area, one street above Mulberry lane. “But if it was moving towards my house, it doesn’t make sense that he shows up only three minutes later on Mulberry lane going in the opposite direction...”
She rubbed her cheek with her knuckle. “If his target was to the south of my house, it would make some sort of sense... No, but that means the hit was done so quick he’d instantly have to turn around and head home...“
And she would’ve caught traces because that area was on her way to work.
“Of course I didn’t exactly look for it then...” she argued with herself. “If there were traces they’re probably gone by now. It’s been two weeks.”
The same nagging feeling hit her again. What about the blood on Granbury street? Where does that fit in?
She sighed and checked her phone. Tiro was last seen online around 1 PM. Good. That meant he was sleeping like she told him to.
She’s glad he wants to help but it’s not exactly getting her answers yet, though.
Her mind went back to the smears. Something is off about that. But what?
The place didn’t make sense. It’s more to the northeast, while the footage and the witness (sounds awfully fancy for the mess Tiro remembered) were to the south and southeast. If only she could estimate what speed the bat could achieve she could take better guesses at where he went.
Or, you know. More witnesses would also be nice.
She considered asking Ghi for a timeframe to estimate the bats speed but then wondered what the smears were pointing at. Maybe they weren’t related to the vampire at all. Sure, the absence of clotting is nice but maybe it could tell her a bit more. At least eliminate a inconsistency if necessary.
She searched a little about shapes and traits of blood pools when she came across an article. Published in a paper on forensic science, about two years ago.
It was on the morphology of drying blood pools.
She skimmed through the abstract and looked at the provided picture. The dark coloration of the pool, with as final state a brittle hardened dark red substance. One more look through the abstract and she found her questions not answered. The drying time of blood was related to the surface and conditions, but how much of a difference would it make?
After another search in the NCBI she hit the jackpot.
Theres no way the blood shouldn’t have been completely dried up by the time they discovered it if it was from the night in question.
It might’ve been smeared but it wasn’t completely dry.
It was actually pretty fresh.
She let out a disappointed sigh. So much for a good lead. It might still be vampire related, but without witnesses she’d have to let it go for now.
She got rid of the yellow layer with a sigh.
Now she had no idea where the bat was going. Damn confusing timeline.
She got up for a drink. She opened the dishwasher for a mug and poured herself hot water for tea. She shot a text to Ghi asking if he had a timeframe for her, then hesitated before typing a text to Tiro if he had work tonight.
She had grabbed red tea from the cupboard when she got a reply. She dipped a tea bag in her mug and took her phone with her to the couch, folded up her legs beside her (this time remembering to kick her shoes off) and opened her text. It was from Tiro.
[Sadly]
[i don’t get how assigning me a night shit and then an evening shift right after isa llowed]
She snorted at his typos, quickly sending a reply.
[A night shit?]
[tmi]
She waited for his answer, seeing him quickly start typing. She sipped her tea.
[you know damn well what I mean]
Immediately typing back, a small smile on her face.
[sorry sorry. Did you get some sleep?]
With bated breath she waited for him to start typing. She was surprised to get a picture instead.
He was in bed, lying on his side, sending a selfie. His hair tousled, eyes groggily looking towards her, shoulders bare while clutching a dark blue comforter. After a little search she could make out a hint of a black tank top strap.
He’d sent her a text immediately after.
[just woke up]
She quickly hit him back.
[I can see that]
[wanna grab coffee before I head out?]
She thought a little about his offer. She leant back against the couch, having just realized she had hunched over.
[sure!]
[what time do you start?]
She laid her phone back down to gather her things in the meantime. She set her mug in the sink, and looked for a snack in the fridge, settling on an energy bar.
She threw it in her bag, eyeing her phone for the time. 5.24 PM. Tiro had sent a text she’d check out later.
She was missing her keys, though. She did a quick scan of the room, then remembered having laid them on the headrest of her couch and she crouched next to it to see if she had accidentally dropped it then kicked it under.
She had.
She reached for her keys, at the same time noticing something else was next to it. She grabbed both, and sat upright to examine the mystery object.
It was a picture keychain that she was gifted years time ago going to an amusement park. It was a photo taken on a rollercoaster, a younger version of her obviously having the time of her life, the man sitting next to her... not so much.
Seeing him in the picture made a bit of hurt and nostalgia rise up in her chest. She had totally forgotten she had this. Had he kept it for her?
Angry buzzing from the coffee table pulled her out of her thoughts.
She quickly put the picture down and unlocked her phone.
[sorry, i was just asked to come in earlier]
[i start at 6]
[wanna grab breakfast/dinner instead?]
She knew he was gonna have to hurry if she agreed.
[you know what, sure]
[just don’t blame me when you get late]

Dark red blooms
Dany and Bran book parallels - part 13
1) Burning rose and magic rose.
Bran is trying to convince Maester Luwin of the resurgence of magic, but Luwin contests the claim by saying what may look like real magic is a trick, like pulling rose out of air. When Dany’s bloodrider calls the fiery ladder magic a trick, Quaithe says it is not a trick put real power increasing due to Dany becoming Mother of dragons. Earlier mage was able to do only simple tricks like creating a burning rose in the air. Bran also tries to point out to Luwin the events in the east like magic of mages that Dany encounters.  Luwin says that residual magic left in the world is weak like wisps of smoke and Dany witnesses wisps of smoke after the magic is performed.
When the fiery ladder stood forty feet high, the mage leapt forward and began to climb it, scrambling up hand over hand as quick as a monkey. Each rung he touched dissolved behind him, leaving no more than a wisp of silver smoke. When he reached the top, the ladder was gone and so was he. "A fine trick," announced Jhogo with admiration. "No trick," a woman said in the Common Tongue. Dany had not noticed Quaithe in the crowd, yet there she stood, eyes wet and shiny behind the implacable red lacquer mask. "What mean you, my lady?" "Half a year gone, that man could scarcely wake fire from dragonglass. He had some small skill with powders and wildfire, sufficient to entrance a crowd while his cutpurses did their work. He could walk across hot coals and make burning roses bloom in the air, but he could no more aspire to climb the fiery ladder than a common fisherman could hope to catch a kraken in his nets." Dany looked uneasily at where the ladder had stood. Even the smoke was gone now, and the crowd was breaking up, each man going about his business. In a moment more than a few would find their purses flat and empty. "And now?" "And now his powers grow, Khaleesi. And you are the cause of it." "Me?" She laughed. "How could that be?" The woman stepped closer and lay two fingers on Dany's wrist. "You are the Mother of Dragons, are you not?"( A Clash of Kings - Daenerys III)
"All those who study the higher mysteries try their own hand at spells, soon or late. I yielded to the temptation too, I must confess it. Well, I was a boy, and what boy does not secretly wish to find hidden powers in himself? I got no more for my efforts than a thousand boys before me, and a thousand since. Sad to say, magic does not work." "Sometimes it does," Bran protested. "I had that dream, and Rickon did too. And there are mages and warlocks in the east . . ." "There are men who call themselves mages and warlocks," Maester Luwin said. "I had a friend at the Citadel who could pull a rose out of your ear, but he was no more magical than I was. Oh, to be sure, there is much we do not understand. The years pass in their hundreds and their thousands, and what does any man see of life but a few summers, a few winters? We look at mountains and call them eternal, and so they seem . . . but in the course of time, mountains rise and fall, rivers change their courses, stars fall from the sky, and great cities sink beneath the sea. Even gods die, we think. Everything changes. "Perhaps magic was once a mighty force in the world, but no longer. What little remains is no more than the wisp of smoke that lingers in the air after a great fire has burned out, and even that is fading. Valyria was the last ember, and Valyria is gone. The dragons are no more, the giants are dead, the children of the forest forgotten with all their lore.( A Clash of Kings - Bran IV)
2) Flowers blooming in Dothraki sea and King’s Landing - dark red flowers & dark red blooms of dragon’s breath.
“The Dothraki sea,” Ser Jorah Mormont said as he reined to a halt beside her on the top of the ridge. Beneath them, the plain stretched out immense and empty, a vast flat expanse that reached to the distant horizon and beyond. It was a sea, Dany thought. Past here, there were no hills, no mountains, no trees nor cities nor roads, only the endless grasses, the tall blades rippling like waves when the winds blew. “It’s so green,” she said.“Here and now,” Ser Jorah agreed. “You ought to see it when it blooms, all dark red flowers from horizon to horizon, like a sea of blood. Come the dry season, and the world turns the color of old bronze. And this is only hranna, child. There are a hundred kinds of grass out there, grasses as yellow as lemon and as dark as indigo, blue grasses and orange grasses and grasses like rainbows. Down in the Shadow Lands beyond Asshai, they say there are oceans of ghost grass, taller than a man on horseback with stalks as pale as milkglass. It murders all other grass and glows in the dark with the spirits of the damned. The Dothraki claim that someday ghost grass will cover the entire world, and then all life will end." That thought gave Dany the shivers. "I don't want to talk about that now," she said. "It's so beautiful here, I don't want to think about everything dying." (A Game of Thrones - Daenerys III)
The night the bird had come from Winterfell, Eddard Stark had taken the girls to the castle godswood, an acre of elm and alder and black cottonwood overlooking the river. The heart tree there was a great oak, its ancient limbs overgrown with smokeberry vines; they knelt before it to offer their thanksgiving, as if it had been a weirwood. Sansa drifted to sleep as the moon rose, Arya several hours later, curling up in the grass under Ned's cloak. All through the dark hours he kept his vigil alone. When dawn broke over the city, the dark red blooms of dragon’s breath surrounded the girls where they lay. "I dreamed of Bran,” Sansa had whispered to him. “I saw him smiling.” (A Game of Thrones - Eddard V)
3) Reluctant Bride and Bridegroom - dark red veil & dark red vein.
Dany’s wedding grab is white with dark red veil and Bran has to eat white paste with dark red veins to wed himself to the trees.
The wedding garb is fraught with meaning too. The bride is dressed in dark red veils above a tokar of white silk, fringed with baby pearls. The queen of the rabbits must not be wed without her floppy ears. "All those pearls will make me rattle when I walk." "The pearls symbolize fertility. The more pearls Your Worship wears, the more healthy children she will bear." "Why would I want a hundred children?" Dany turned to the Green Grace. "If we should wed by Westerosi rites …" "The gods of Ghis would deem it no true union." Galazza Galare's face was hidden behind a veil of green silk. Only her eyes showed, green and wise and sad. "In the eyes of the city you would be the noble Hizdahr's concubine, not his lawful wedded wife. Your children would be bastards. Your Worship must marry Hizdahr in the Temple of the Graces, with all the nobility of Meereen on hand to bear witness to your union." Get the heads of all the noble houses out of their pyramids on some pretext, Daario had said. The dragon's words are fire and blood. Dany pushed the thought aside. It was not worthy of her. "As you wish," she sighed. "I shall marry Hizdahr in the Temple of the Graces wrapped in a white tokar fringed with baby pearls. Is there anything else?" ( A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys VI)
Inside was a white paste, thick and heavy, with dark red veins running through it. "You must eat of this," said Leaf. She handed Bran a wooden spoon. The boy looked at the bowl uncertainly. "What is it?"  "A paste of weirwood seeds." Something about the look of it made Bran feel ill. The red veins were only weirwood sap, he supposed, but in the torchlight they looked remarkably like blood. He dipped the spoon into the paste, then hesitated. "Will this make me a greenseer?" "Your blood makes you a greenseer," said Lord Brynden. "This will help awaken your gifts and wed you to the trees." Bran did want to be married to a tree … but who else would wed a broken boy like him? ( A Dance with Dragons - Bran III)

Dreams
Of course now imvscared about my own dresms, buy here we go.
Fragment 1: walking on a road by foot= dangerous, unprotected, not something i would do comfortably alone, something meant for cars., someone doubted the way= didnt know where we were going. I did not belong in ghis group= i felt detached. A girl i dont know from ufmg was leading to a favela= someone who i never had a bond with despite seeing often, but where there was a tourism attraction, with a lot of nature, but very steep= the idea was nicer than actually doing it. You could only see it. It was like a mountain wall with a lot of vegetation growing= apparently soothing. We had to go under a fence, crawling on the floor under the fence to get into tge thing= had to adapt. The road was first supposed to end up somewhere like a farm or plot of land from a german family= something that felt safe, but turned out to be something else, they were kind of a big deal. Never made it up, but it was beautiful.= beautiful on the outside, but it was not what i expected, as i couldn't be part of it. I think it was connected to what we discussed in therapy, about not having an identity anymore, about college, about feeling insecure. Maybe i took a detour, led by other people cause i don't trust myself, but in the end, if i don't trust myself, how can i trust others? I felt alone in the group, putting up a false calm façade.
Fragment 2: job interview during a class. Me, erika and andressa . i felt completely unprepared to provide the information they wanted.= i felt like i never got the memo from my friends and was sure to underperform due to that. There was a young woman applying the test. = false nice person, felt patronizing. She ripped a page, i thought was part of the test but then it was just the cover. = dodnt show respect for my test. I argued with her. = fighting back from being abused in a certain way. The job was stupid too, part of it was about brushing a dog's teeth,= way less knowledge was needed for this, why did they want good grades? Felt explored. also an alcohol industry. I had to made up the part they asked for my grades cause i didnt know.= was sure andressa's grades were higher, even though she used to be the one to most likely have the lowest grades of the three of us. Was sure erika would do better. There was also something about a file, like the pink one i had in elementary schhol, erika had one too. That made me feel a bit uncomfortable, a bit ashamed, and i think it represents the implicit competition for who was smarter. Even before i had to deduct my answers from andressa',s.á = felt lost, without support from friends i knew. I also felt exposed in front of the class.
Fragment 3= it was a course on a subject i had been before, i cant remember what. Fabiano was there, but he left when the instructor told about a test. I wanted to stay, but i left too, cause i didnt want to look a specific way. I was putting up a cool façade, like i didnt care as i did all my life. I wanted to look cool. Somehow i ended up in a sipermatket with priscila, near the place. It felt kinda familiar. I left my phone at the place though, and was wortied my parents would reach out, and i wouldn't be available. = it all says kf both how insecure i actually feel and how I'm constantly trying to please other people instead of being me. I feel like I'm not really worth it, i have to pretend to be cool to deserve attention. I was worried about fabiano leaving i guess. I guess if i stayed, i would lose the chance, he would just go away. He was with a friend there, who wanted to leave too. The test he was not willing to take showed he didnt want to invest much effort in this, so i had to pretend i didn't either. Pedro comes to mind too now, that's what i did, tried to look cool when i didn't feel it, he wanted something easy, that made me uneasy and i couldn't get out cause that's what i do. I stayed with Gustavo too cause i thought id lose everything. Like he was the only thing to hold onto. Like i would be completely alone without him, even though he wasn't what i wanted. Cause i wasn't good enougb to have nice things. Maybe i can't let go of control now and can't surrender and feel pleasure cause i feel unsafe, cause everyone's a threat.

FFXII Zodiac Age Playthrough Part 4
Prison again, only this time in the sky
-Back in Rabanastre, the team disbands, Basch to be picked up by the #resistance, Fran and Balthier to drink cosmos and gossip about Amalia's outfit.
-Probably.
-Vaan asks if they want the stone that he stole from the palace, and they hard pass.
-Once they're gone, he heads to show it to Penelo. Only, she's not there. Kytes sends him to see Old Dalan.
-Dalan admires Vaan's stolen treasure and his having escaped prison.
-Dalan's kitty, on the other hand, is unimpressed.
-Dalan gives Vaan a Sword to give to someone names Azelas, and Vaan identifies is as a Sword of the Order.
-Of the phoenix?
-Vaan tells Dalan to find out where Penelo went and heads out.
-At Azelas' place, everyone's arguing about if they can trust Basch about him being a twin separated by his divorcing parents, each twin only have a torn picture of themselves with their custodial parent.
-Lindsey Lohan trusts him.
-Vossler is also there and says he won't trust him, but also won't turn him in?
-He also tosses Basch the sword.
-Is Basch Azelas?
-This part is so confusing.
-(Vossler is Azelas, we find out later)
-Basch requests Vaan take him to Balthier because he "needs wings."
-Red Bull has not yet been invented.
-Vaan tells Basch that his parents died of a plague, and he went to live with Penelo, but then the war happened.
-Also, he knows that Basch didn't kill Reks.
-Character development!
-At the bar, Migelo is chewing out Balthier because Penelo has been taken by Ba'Gamnan to Bhujerba, and he left a note saying it was because of Balthier.
-Balthier and Fran don't really want to go, but Vaan offers the stone if they do, and Basch will tag along as well to tend to some business.
-Balthier asks if this business is with the Marquis.
-Who dat?
-Anyway, the gang's all back together again (reluctantly again).
-Road trip!
-Actually, sky trip. Bhujerba is a floating city.
-Balthier's airship, The Strahl, is white, flirty, and ready for some fun.
-Like Balthier.
-As it takes off, we cut to Penelo locked up in a dungeon. Ba'Gamnan comes in and makes sure she's well fed because he needs Balthier's bait alive.
-When the team arrives, Balthier tells Basch to keep a low profile and not use his name.
-On their way to the mines where Penelo is held, a boy asks to join them, and Balthier mysteriously lets him with little protest.
-The boy says his name is Lamont.
-It's obviously not.
-Vaan says that he's in good hands. "Right, Basch?"
-Vaan.
-You had one job.
-One job.
-And you got it like a second ago.
-It matters little. The team is off to explore the sky city. If Rabanastre is Rome, then Bhujerba is sky Venice.
-With some Russian architectural influence.
-Lamont brattily tells the team that the Lhusu Mines, where Penelo is being held, are not under heavy imperial watch.
-Inside the mine, however, the team has to hide from a group of imperials including a judge and the Marquis Ondore of Bhujerba, who are talking about the purest magicite being produced in the mine making its way to Vayne.
-Apparently, Ondore oversaw the "peace" negotiations with Dalmasca, but now he's on the imperials' side, according to Lamont.
-Balthier is skeptical about how he could know that.
-Vaan's like, "whatever, let's find Penelo,"
-Lamont's like, "is that a new writing app?"
-Deeper in the cave, Lamont pulls out his own stone, nethicite, which has been created in a place called Draklor Laboratories (cue Balthier having a subtle reaction), and which absorbs energy unlike magicite.
-This game has very complex geopolitics/magic/geology/science
-Balthier is not having it and asks Lamont to fess up about who he is and how he knows what he knows.
-Before Lamont can, however, Ba'Gamnan and crew shows up to slice and dice. And Lamont bolts.
-The gang's supposed to run away, but some well-placed quickenings make the lizard crew easy work.
-At the mines entrance, Lamont joins up with the group of imperials from before, who comment on how he's been wandering alone.
-They call him Lord Larsa.
-Betrayal.
-Penelo's there too.
-The judge is harsh to Penelo but Larsa intercedes and gets a room for her at the Marquis' place. Sweet digs.
-Vaan has 0% idea what's going on.
-Balthier explains that Larsa is Vayne's brother. Fran says that he'll treat Penelo well.
-Balthier says that no one knows men like Fran.
-blinking_caucasian_man.gif
-Basch still wants to talk to the Marquis and Balthier suggests that they start with the organizations opposing the empire that the Marquis helps fund.
-For being the main character, Vaan is really not the main character.
-They need some clamor, so Vaan volunteers to wander around yelling that he's Basch (who's supposed to be dead).
-This whole scenario, with Vaan running around yelling "I'm Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca!" makes me have such secondhand embarrassment.
-After Vaan has embarrassed himself (and me) enough, he gets abducted by the Bhujerban FBI.
-Victory?
-The people who intercepted Vaan quickly realize that he's not Basch (who ain't no PBT).
-Balthier emerges and is like, "duh"
-Basch emerges and is like, "sup"
-At the palace, Larsa tells Penelo that he will talk with his brother about the Rabanastre police brutality. Penelo tells him that his brother is mad scary and so is the empire.
-Larsa is genuinely shocked that people would be afraid of the empire.
-Sweet summer child.
-Like is there ever any nation known as "The Empire" that isn't frightening and overly aggressive to the natives of foreign lands? Like isn't that the definition of empire?
-Larsa says he'll make sure no pain comes to her.
-Back in town, Basch gets a meeting with the Marquis.
-At this meeting, he asks for help rescuing Amalia. Vaan interrupts (he really has no social sense) and asks where Penelo is.
-She's going with Larsa back to Rabanastre.
-Meanwhile, a large imperial ship arrives and deploys smaller ships, for something.
-In the meeting, The Marquis says that the enemy's chains should be easy for Basch to bear. He draws his sword and the guards come and aprehend the group.
-I made Basch an archer, not a swordsman. Get your facts right.
-At the palace in Rabanastre, Vayne speaks with a judge about stamping out the #resistance. They also know that Ondore is funding the #resistance in Bhujerba.
-Also, he has a letter saying Basch has been captured and taken to Judge Ghis.
-The judge with Vayne, Gabbranth, says that Basch will die by his hand.
-Gabbranth is Basch's twin.
-That's cold.
-He leaves and a rambling Doctor Cid enters rambling about Nabudis. He tells Vayne that the Archadian senate is looking for ways to backstab him.
-On the Dreadnought Leviathan, our prisoner team reunites with Amalia, who promptly slaps Basch in the face. She says that he should be dead.
-She takes no shit and I love it.
-Judge Ghis introduces her as Princess Ashelia B'Nargen Dalmasca.
-Last we saw her as princess, she was rocking a sheer mourning outfit, the likes of which Cher would wear.
-Iconique.
-Unfortunately, she has no proof that she's princess.
-Luckily, Basch can prove it if he goes and finds a dusk shard.
-The Princess is none too pleased still because she would live in shame.
-Basch is like, "tough break"
-Vaan tells them to stop or everyone will get killed.
-"Don't interrupt," Ashelia responds.
-Love. Her.
-At that moment, Vaan's stone starts glowing. It happens to be the dusk shard. Convenient.
-He gives it to Ghis telling him he needs to promise no executions.
P-That's...not how the law works.
-They're taken away, but only briefly before Basch, Balthier, and Fran beat up their guards.
-Vossler is dressed as one of them and joins the party as a guest so they can save Ashe.
-Baschler reunited!
-Vossler tells the team not to cross the red lights because an alarm will go off, and then literally walks through it five seconds letter when he sees an enemy.
-Thanks, bro.
-Deep within the ship, the group reunites with Ashe, who really looks like she wants to slap Basch again.
-Rain check, because they need to escape ASAP.
-They're going to jack a ship to escape, but Ashe is not down to hang out with Basch, whom she still thinks is a traitor.
-"Too bad," says Vossler.
-The group runs into Larsa and Penelo.
-Penelo and Vaan hug and reunite.
-Larsa tells Vossler that they must get an airship before Ghis finds out, and then tells Ashe that the fact that she and Basch were made to seem dead is suspicious and that their actions will reveal what's really going on.
-It will be for the good of Dalmasca and the empire.
-Ashe really wants to say that she likes Vaan more than the empire, and she doesn't like Vaan at all, but she holds her tongue.
-Larsa gives Penelo his manufacted nethicite, and then leaves with Vossler.
-At bridge, the group runs into Ghis, who tries to kill them with a big magic attack, but it is absorbed by the nethicite Larsa just gave Penelo.
-Penelo's already pulling her weight and she's been with the group for like five minutes. What have you done, Vaan?
-Ghis compares Ashe to her father for not knowing when to surrender.
-Ashe takes off her earrings and shit goes down.
-After defeating Ghis, Vossler comes in to say that they've secured a ship that Balthier is none too happy about.
-"Not fitting for a leading man."
-They're literally trying to escape for their lives and he's worried that their escape ship isn't flashy enough. I love it.
-Fran stealth pilots them to safety, and Penelo makes fast friends with her and Balthier.
-Vaan's jeal.
-Back in Bhujerba, Vossler and Basch convince Ashe to speak to Ondore. Vossler also tells Ashe that Basch will be her bodyguard even though she mistrusts him.
-She knows he doesn't speak lightly so she agrees.
-The plot is really starting to pick up. That's it for this section!

A fly got into her soup while she was eating it. on/onto vào (bên trong / lên trên một bề mặt) Snow fell on the hillsI must have put the apple onto someone else’s bag in the market. from từ (một nơi nào đó) A bear in the circus has escaped from his cage. away from chỉ sự chuyển động ra xa They warned him to keep away from their daughter.
This is something I can not agree with.
Where did you get this?
How many of you can she depend on?
2. Cách dùng giới từ “like”
You look like your mother.
Câu sai:
You look like your mother does.
3. Phân biệt “in” – “into” và “on” – “onto”
“Into” và “onto” thường được sử dụng để nhấn mạnh về sự chuyển động, còn “in” và “on” thể hiện vị trí
Ví dụ:
She swam in the lake.
I walked into the hotel.
Look in the box. (Indicating location)
He drove into the city.
