she sat with one hand holding one of dove’s. while she hadn’t been close with lady ranida, death had a way of hitting the princess hard and knowing that her cousin had witnessed it occur only made her heart heavier. she knew nothing could wash away the pain. if all she could do was sit beside her in silence then so be it, but her mind still searched for something that could perhaps distract from the grief even momentarily. ❝ would you like to go for a walk through the gardens? ❞ fresh air often helped her. it was why she’d spent much time at the water gardens but since they couldn’t leave the castle the palace gardens would have to suffice.

sender offers receiver a bite from their fork . ft. dovasary dayne @ruinovs
despite the still unusual silence, nymeria was utterly delighted to be sharing her cousin's company again, even if it was only for a meal, though she kept her joy to herself save for the quiet smile on her lips. movement out of the corner of her eye made her look up from her own plate, and eyes widened slightly upon seeing dove holding out her fork. realization dawned quickly, brightening the princess' expression, and she took a bite of the offered food. ❝ i can see why you enjoy this dish so much, ❞ she said before holding out her own fork, intent on returning the gesture.

she nodded. selfishly, she wanted to cling to her cousin, both to know that she was safe and to feel at ease herself, but nymeria set her own desires aside. talk of the other's duties made her shake her head. ❝ you can return whenever you are ready. ❞ even if it took days or longer. nym wouldn't question when she chose to return, but until then, she had her other ladies in waiting. she took a small step back, worry making her hesitant to leave but committed to doing so. ❝ if you need anything at all, my door is always open. ❞ she offered before turning toward her guards and motioning for them to follow her in the opposite direction.
’ not right now. ’ for once, dove didn’t want to be around nymeria’s cheerful personality. she wanted to scream and rage, and be able to without some helpful tidbit or attempt of seeing the bright side of things. useless platitudes that wouldn’t bring her friend back, just as they hadn’t brought her parents back. ’ i’d like to be alone. i will return for my duties in the morning, ’ dove agreed, deciding that it would best for the two of them to go their separate ways for the moment. without her cousin doing anything consciously she was getting under dove’s skin, and it wasn’t fair for her to lash out.
