The thing you should be thinking about is why you repeatedly agree and continue to go on runs with me,” you pant as you untie the tether that you use while you run—with Matt being unable to see and just how hard you imagine running with a cane would be, a tether to your waist to guide him and gently keep him out of the path of obstacles seemed like a good option.

“You know, I don’t think I’ve figured that part out yet, either. I mean, you do agree to box with me which is nice. But I think I just like spending time with you. Although, being tied with you does kind of make me feel like a dog.”

“Alright, alright,” he chuckles, his cheeks flushing beyond the rosiness from the run. “Help me get to the cafe in the student union and I’ll buy us some waters.”

“Excuse me, I have plans,” you say as you take the waters back and scan them, Matt rooting around in his shorts for his student ID.

“No, you have plans with your other friends semi-regularly. You never have date plans,” he clarifies as he swipes his ID to pay.

“I’m sorry all of us can’t be you with a new companion every few weeks.”

“I don’t have a ‘new companion’ every few weeks.”

“Oh, come on, Matt, don’t deny it,” you say as you drink your water. “Right now, it’s that girl from that IP law class, before that it was a dental student, then I think an international relations major? But let’s not forget about contract law girl, estate planning—.”

“Okay, fine, I’ve had a lot of short-term relationships.”

“Well, that’s great for you, but that’s not what I’m looking for,” you tell him. “I mean, I don’t expect anything right now to last forever, but, I don’t want it to be a four-week thing and then be done with it. If I’m gonna make plans with someone, it’s because I think I still might be making plans with them in five months.”

Matt nods and drinks some of his own water as you move back outside and in the direction of our dorms. “So, what’s this guy like? Where’d you meet?”

“Cassie actually set us up,” you say. “She said that he seemed like my type, like a really good guy.”

“Well, then, I’m happy you have plans tonight. I hope it goes well.”

“Thanks, Matt. I do, too. I mean, I have no reason to think they won’t. Just tell Foggy I’m sorry I’m gonna miss him tonight.”

“Of course.”

“Do I see a wild (Y/N) in one of her natural habitats?” you hear Foggy call from across the quad.

“Speak of the Nelson, and he shall appear!” you smile as he comes to wrap you in a hug. 

“I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages!”

“(Y/N) has a date tonight,” Matt says with a devilish grin.

“Matthew!” you say, giving him a swift whack. “This is exactly why I don’t tell you things.”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I’m happy for you, really.”

“I am, too!” Foggy chimes in. “I’m bummed that it means you’ll miss drinks at Josie’s, but, it’s about time you get dicked down.”

“I need to hang out with more friends that are girls,” you sigh, taking a look at your watch. “I gotta go now if I want to take an everything shower.” Kissing each of their cheeks, you wave goodbye and run off to your dorm to get ready.

“Really?” Cassie asks over the phone.

“We work on paper, but there wasn’t any spark.”

Hanging up, you sigh as you put your phone back into your bag, hiking the strap up over your shoulder, slipping out your keys and undoing the old locks. You toss your purse on the nearby table, but freeze in your tracks when you see someone sitting on your bed. Not any someone. Matt.

“You shouldn’t be in here this late,” you breathe.

“I shouldn���t be in here at all,” he says softly, folding his glasses and putting them on your nightstand. “But why do something half-wrong?”

You slowly start to close the gap between where he sits and where you stand. “Matt . . .”

“If you want me to go, I will. Just say the word.”

“. . . Why now?”

“I don’t know. I just . . . I realized tonight when I was at Josie’s with Foggy that if you’re going to be kissing anyone, I want it to be me.”

You don’t care what you just told Cassie. Honestly, you don’t care about anything or how this could complicate your friendship or any of the consequences. also regarding ‘I'm Coming For You and I'm Making War’… i wanna know anything and everything about ur whole writing process and the butcher’s background etc and AAAAAAH i’m so invested u have no idea

I've been saving this ask, because I didn't want to get it wrong and I also knew my answer was going to get ridiculously long and I'm so sorry for that.

This character has been in my head for months and months. I had wanted to write a Hunger Games fic for so long, but I always thought my first one would be Finnick/Reader. I didn't really have an idea, it was just kind of an 'I should get to that at some point,' kind of thing. It wasn't until a gifset crossed my dash that the idea for the Johanna fic was born. I saw that and thought what if reader is literally right fucking there and they have to hide how they feel about each other because they've both lost everything and don't want to lose each other too? 'There's no one left that I love,' is really the quote that created this fic.

And then I was like well that means reader has to be a victor, right? She's in the Quarter Quell, so she had to have won a Hunger Games at some point. So, which Hunger Games did she win? I started looking at the list of victors and there were a few years where it wasn't explicitly stated who won but District 10 was somewhere in there from like 67th-69th Hunger Games or something like that. I finally settled on reader being from District 10 and winning the 68th Games because I felt like it made the most sense at the time. I wanted reader to be young enough that when she met Johanna they would be about the same age, but I didn't want to usurp Finnick's achievement of being the youngest victor at the age of 14, so reader was 15 when she won her Games.

I also wanted reader to be all alone when she went into the Hunger Games. So, no family, no friends, nothing. She didn't talk to anyone. She was kind of in a daze for her whole Games, because she was very much of the mindset that everyone had given up on her just because she was an orphan. The Hunger Games sacrifices something precious, children, and when she realizes that people are like 'oh a year we're saved from sacrificing someone's daughter,' she realizes that even though she doesn't have anyone, that doesn't mean she can't still have herself. So, she goes into the arena, with the single-minded intent of winning so she can eventually find a way to not only survive and show everyone that they shouldn't have dismissed her for not being important to anyone, but she also is like 'fuck this, fuck the Capitol, fuck everyone who's making this happen.' A lot of that attitude carries with her throughout the story, but once she's given people to care about, she realizes that she now has something to lose. Before, she would only lose herself, but now she has friends and Johanna, people she loves more than anything, more than herself, and losing them would devastate her.

I am a sucker for found family and I wanted reader to have that. So, she not only ends up with Finnick, the Capitol's star as a best friend, but Johanna Mason as her love interest. And then eventually, she gains more friends like Katniss and Peeta and the OCs Jesse and even Ben. (Although, I will admit, Jesse is based on Jesse from The Last Of Us 2 because I'm in love with him and I'll eventually write my fic for him.) Since reader grew up with nothing, she would be hellbent on protecting and watching out for everything she's painstakingly claimed for her own, which is why when Johanna is taken by the Capitol, she literally lets Coin torture her (the snakes, drowning, claustrophobia, etc.) all in the name of being on the team that's going to rescue Johanna and fight in the war against the Capitol and Snow.

Reader grew up without any of those important formative relationships which is why after she's crowned victor of the 68th Games, she's basically a hermit in District 10. Her and Haymitch were a bit similar in that respect, except reader doesn't really drink like Haymitch. She doesn't hold much love or respect for District 10, because when she needed them most, they ignored her. When they thought they might get something out of her being a victor, they were suddenly interested in her, which is why she now ignores them. I tried explaining that especially when she's going into the Quarter Quell and the other District 10 tribute, Clay (another OC), tries to be all 'for District 10' and reader is like 'fuck District 10 they've done nothing for me and I owe them nothing.' So, when Clay tries to kill her later on and District 10 sends her the tribute gift, that breaks and heals something in her. Which is why she attacks a tree, which is more or less a symbol for Johanna. She takes her anger and frustration and pain out on that because everything she has in her at that moment is either for Johanna or for Finnick, so she has to learn how to kind of readjust her worldview to think 'maybe there's a home for me and it's not what I thought it was.'

District 10 is the livestock district, which means reader would have been forced to work in a slaughterhouse and process the meat from that as a child/teenager. Fortunately or unfortunately for her, she uses some things that she learned from that trade in her 68th Hunger Games. A lot of stuff she went through in those Games is a bit of a blur, because she was so angry and hurt and that really carried her through until the end. Which is why when she ended up with the nickname 'The Butcher,' it not only reminds her of the worst moments of her life, but also her childhood and things she wants to escape. The fact that it literally follows her everywhere and becomes her identity around everyone understandably annoys her, but she is willing to use that when it benefits her (usually when she wants to intimidate someone).

I didn't quite realize when I started this fic that it would be so long. I thought it would be 3 parts and I would just kind of gloss over certain things, jump to events with Johanna, and nothing else would matter. But once I started it, I started thinking about how much I really wanted to integrate the reader into the Hunger Games 'verse and the events that unfolded. She's going to influence some things and I hope the changes are welcome changes. The story will for the most part remain the same, but having another victor on the rebellion's side, one so single-minded and stubborn and with no self-preservation instincts when it comes to her loved ones definitely helps some characters more than others.

I wanted to show that reader obviously starts caring about Johanna and Finnick, they're the most important people to her, but also others as well. And in return, they care about her and are protective of her, even though she's obviously a badass and is now basically a trained killer where I left off in the story.

I initially was going to have it be tragic like oh Johanna and Finnick get called for the Quarter Quell and reader does too. But I was like what if reader volunteered? What if reader was like 'you know, might not make it out of this one alive, but I can sure guarantee that someone I love does,' because reader is a bit of a self-sacrificing idiot. Which is why Johanna understandably gets really fucking pissed and that anger is how they finally learned how to communicate their feelings for each other. They both have rage and hurt in them, but it displays itself in different ways, and they eventually find a middle ground to express those feelings.

I really thought I didn't have much at all to say about Mockingjay. Reader was separated from Johanna, so what did it matter, right? Skip to the rescue and they live happily ever after. But then I really was thinking about how much it would affect reader. She had Johanna and lost her and all because she thought she was doing what was best. She was following the plan because she was promised Johanna would make it out of the arena alive and mostly well and they could be together and the rebellion would start. But it didn't happen like that and she realizes she was kept in the dark for a few parts of the plan. So, she decides that now that going with the group's plan didn't work, that she would find her own way to save Johanna and reunite with her. Which is why she basically goes through hell all over again to get back to her. She trains and she passes her tests and she makes friends with soldiers in order to build whatever connections she needs to get to where she wants. She has to employ a more diplomatic approach to getting what she wants than just running at the problem full tilt and hoping she makes it out alive.

With the last installment, I really want to focus on more of the rebellion. Reader has been trapped with her worry over Johanna and now that Johanna is safe in District 13, now she's going to have a lot more to be concerned about. There's pods and Peeta's hijacking and mutts and Peacekeepers to contend with along with trying to ensure that Katniss kills Snow and Capitol rule becomes a thing of the past.

I've done my best to draw together a coherent story. I really hope it makes sense. I've refused to like reread the books or rewatch the movies while I've been writing this story, because I didn't want to produce just a straight copy of a story that already exists just with an extra character thrown in. I have researched the victor lists and timeline events and other little details that I've drawn together to try to make the story make sense, but a lot of what I've written has come from my memory of the books and movies, so some details might be off, but I've also just wanted the reader to have her own perspective on what's going on, which is why I had her on her own for like half the Quarter Quell and why I separated her from Finnick in District 13 up until the bombs fell.

I think once I finish this fic, I might focus on my Finnick idea. It involves them being childhood best friends who find themselves on opposite sides of the war. Reader's character would draw inspiration from Sejanus in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I do want to write for Johanna again. I feel like there's a lot of her story that I still want to explore. Maybe I'll write snippets from Butcher's and Johanna's future together or maybe even their past.

With an outdated version of photoshop and a lot of patience 😤 my messy process under the cut

let's say i have this movie downloaded in .mp4 i open it in windows movie maker - or any other software that lets you do quick and easy edits and whatnot but me i use wmm even tho it's obsolete i knoooow leave me alone - cut the scene i want to gif out and save it into this tiny little file

then i open photoshop and go into import > video frames into layers (i may be a little bit off in how things are called on PS in english, but they should be in the same places anyway)

this little popup will open

since my file is exclusively the thing i want to gif i don't need to bother with the little arrow-ish things underneath the video player, they're there if you need to shorten your thing or like cut into it.

this bit here needs to be checked like this, it'll set up the gif animation or whatever. so yeah then click Ok

bim bam boom photoshop will open like this

big scary image with many tiny scary images, so first of all what i do is get on the cropping tool

this will show up in the toolbar up top

and in there you set the dimensions of the gif, 1 gif in a gifset that takes up the whole post has to be 540px wide for 2 gif next to each other it's 268px wide and i can't remember 3 by 3 but i never do that so whatever who cares.

once you've set up the dimensions you want, you got this grid thing to move around and set however you want it to be

and then you wait as it painstakingly takes its time to do it

boom! it's done!

so that's your gif raw and unprepared without any filters or whatever, no length, no speed, nothing!

down there you've got the frames of the gif, depending how long is it'll be either a lot or very very short, in this case it's 277 frames, so already you know it's not gonna be just one gif but probably two or three - which i knew btw that's on purpose!!

first thing i do when all the cropping and setting up is done is scroll all the way through the frames to see if there's a bit that won't make it into the gif, and here, there is

these last four frames show a different bit of the scene because i cut shit very messily and don't check before opening photoshop but you know! trust the process! so make sure to select the unwanted bunch and delete them

so now hurray the gif is 273 frames and it's only the one scene i want

so you gotta scroll all the way up and NOT forget to click on the very last layer before you start playing around with filters and all that

this little guy right here is my bestien he's the only one i use when editing gifs, fuck everybody else on that row. when making gifs i mostly just use a combination of those three things, brightness/contrast, vibrancy and photo filters

so anyway, let's fool around with those little things and make a gif (i realize now the scene is very dark and it will look very ugly but never mind! we carry on) so there a bunch of random settings added - you gotta make sure they are all the way on top of everything or else they just won't appear on every single frame

what i do then is probably very stupid and there's probably a better way to do it, but MY PROCESS, so i divide the amount of frames i've got by the number of gifs i want to make in a set, so 273/3 that's 91 (thank you google), so we look back down at the frames

and then scroll aaaaaalllll the way back to frame 91 (if you hold shift and use the wheel it'll be much faster) and while still holding shift pressed down click on frame 92

that will select every frame from the last to that and we delete that shit

so now we only have 91 frames and that's one gif. so let's save it! but wait, no you forgot to do something! see the 0.03s? that's the gif speed or whatever, idk how it works but 0.03s is too fast, me i usually use 0.05s so what you do next is select every one of those frames you've got left and click the little pointing down arrow, that'll open that

click Other... and then set it as the speed you want

ok so your gif is at the correct speed NOW you can save it so it's file > export > save for web

this new popup will appear

currently as of 2024 gifs can't be bigger than 10Mb/Mo, this one is 4mo

so we're good we're fine. so then you just click save, name the file whatever you want and VOILAAAA, a djeef!

(and then undo the delete and repeat everything for the other two gifs you'd want to make in that set)

A few words.

Tom Sturridge's birthday was a couple days ago- 5 December. I learned that on 6 December. This is a futile space to 'celebrate' in any way, so I won't try, and there's a lot of personal feelings that if I start writing about them, the thing would morph into a weirdly emotinal open letter- I won't do that either. Still, just thought I'd acknowledge the birthday thing here since this blog turned into a tribute account to the man and his work before I knew it was happening.

Making presumptions, but Tom, Tom the person is not any of the wild, disturbed, stormy men he plays, and he is not exactly the 3000 volt puppy-energy wrapped in a blanket of sunshine man that he shows the public either. I believe he's somewhere in between- make it quieter, make it introspective, and slide the slidebar more towards the latter. Either way, we know for sure how amazingly talented he is, how wonderfully weird/quirky his sense of humor can be (that's my personal favorite brand of humor), we know how humble and kind and warm he is. He deserves everything he ever hoped for in life, and things he can't even dream of yet. I hope he gets all that, and more. Nobody can have 100% bliss and happiness 100% of the time, but I hope most days he wakes up and feels excited about life, feels deeply loved and protected by the people around him, feels he has love to give back to all of them, and feels the energy and inspiration to try all the new things he wants to and do all the old things he wants to keep doing. Happy belated birthday to Tom Sturridge.

I know a lot of you- probably most of you- are following me for my Tom content. My tumblr was more or less a throwaway before I got caught off-guard by my love for this man- I literally came here every 6 months after finishing a show/book/album to reblog some stuff about it and went away. Then Tom happened. Anyway, I have lots more content ideas- gifsets, videos, writing pieces. But I've done all the easier ideas and the new stuff will take a little bit more time, so things might slow down a little. I make this stuff for myself, mostly, and slow or fast, doesn't look like I can stop anytime soon. Anyway, thanks for being here. Cheers, and say a little prayer for Tom and/or send a little good vibe towards him if you have two seconds- for all the joy he's brought us, he deserves it.

Hi!! thank you so much for the ask, I've been wanting to make more friends here too <3

and hell yes let's go!! This was a lot more detailed than I meant for it to be, but I hope that you enjoy it!

Billy:

I can't talk about any of Laurie's relationships without talking about Billy so let's just start there! Billy and Laurie are this weird codependent asshole duo who love and hate each other and can't live without one another. They had a history before their parents got together, and adapted pretty quickly to being step-siblings. While they both tried to keep Max away from Neil, Laurie is all too aware of his abusive nature and is usually the one to patch Billy up. Laurie has also dealt with a lot of shit from Neil but his abuse towards her has always been verbal and not physical.

But then, Neil finds out that Laurie isn't straight. He and Susan were supposed to be away for a weekend but came back early and he caught her making out with another girl. Billy already knew that she wasn't straight and Max probably did too, but Neil flipped his shit. It's the only time he's gotten physical with Laurie, until Billy stepped in to defend her. The fight was intense and destructive and led to Max running away, and the combination of all three was the push for them to move to Hawkins. That's also why, in this gifset, Billy blames Laurie for California and Laurie says that it wasn't only her fault.

But because of Billy defending Laurie, Neil starts accusing Billy of being gay and cracks down way harder on him than ever before, which is why Billy turns into way more of an asshole in Hawkins. The two of them spent the entire drive (30 hours straight together rip) planning how to deal with things in Hawkins, which include immediately becoming popular and immediately cementing themselves as straight. Laurie planned to find the most popular boy in school and Billy planned to sleep his way through all of the popular girls, and both of them planned to be bitchy and untouchable.

But Billy got out of hand. After how badly both he and Laurie were hurt after their last fight with Neil, he’s become a lot more controlling of both of his sisters. He first opposes Laurie’s relationship with Steve because he’s just being a dick, but as season 2 progresses he starts to see Steve as someone who will get Laurie into trouble and seeks to prevent that at any cost. When Laurie starts acting weird and disappearing all the time, and then he finds her with Steve hiding Max and some other kids, he blames all of it on Steve even while Laurie tries to explain things to him. And while Billy is an asshole and has always bullied nerds, his intense anti-Lucas stance is less about his own racism (is he a racist asshole? yes. would he beat the shit out of a 13 year old in other circumstances? less likely in this fic specifically but fuck billy) and more because of a combination of “Neil is a racist asshole and Billy is trying to prove himself” and “if Neil finds out that Max is hanging out with him, it will be a repeat of The California Incident”. That being said, he doesn’t get let off the hook for anything, we just explore more of the why to his actions.

Ultimately, Billy is still an asshole but Laurie is kind of an asshole too and they’re assholes who have each other’s backs and are used to only being able to rely on each other. Season 3 will also go into more depth on their dynamic, with Billy’s possession and Laurie’s history coinciding to create an absolute shitshow of a summer for both of them.

Also, their dynamic alternates between “Billy being exasperated at Laurie being a brat” and “Laurie being exasperated at Billy not wearing shirts”, at all times they both think that they’re the responsible siblings and at all times they’re both wrong

(I also want to clarify that this fic won’t be ignoring or erasing the horrible things that Billy does, but it will be looking at why he behaves certain ways. He is held entirely accountable for his actions and they won’t just be brushed under the rug I actually hate him sm pls don’t expect billy-positivity around here)

Steve:

When Laurie first gets to Hawkins, she hears all about King Steve and immediately decides that he’s the perfect boy for her plan. He’s rich, he’s popular, he’s hot, what more could she want? But then she finds out that he isn’t actually popular anymore, and she becomes so much more curious. She’s heard about his girlfriend, but she can’t imagine that being enough to make him give up his crown, and she’s determined to figure him out. Also, the more Billy antagonizes him, the more interested Laurie gets, because she’s a little brat that way.

She definitely flirts with him a lot and Steve is never quite sure how to react. He’s got a girlfriend, and she’s Billy’s sister, but she’s also clever and snarky and fun, so he gives as good as he gets and they fall into an easy camaraderie that the rest of the school doesn’t entirely know how to handle. Steve certainly isn’t looking to be popular again, but he does regain a lot of his old cred just because the hot new girl is into him. But what other people don’t get is that so much of why Laurie continues to talk to him and befriend him is because he’s also the only person who doesn’t just see her as the hot new girl but actually sees that there’s more to her than that.

But they get a lot closer after the Halloween party! When Laurie sees Steve leaving, she follows him and ends up sitting in his passenger seat while they drive around Hawkins and talk, and they become so much closer in the process. A lot goes on in this scene, but the main points are that Laurie comforts Steve about his breakup and, when they get too close to the woods, Steve comforts Laurie through her panic attack. She opens up to Steve about the major blank spots in his memory and he talks, albeit vaguely, about what happened the year before (not the demogorgon but that Barb disappeared from his pool and all that), and ultimately he invites her to crash at his house that night since she doesn’t want to go home. She’s still with him the next day when they run into Dustin, which is how she gets pulled into the entire Upside Down mess.

I’ll spare you the outline of that entire plot because it’s super detailed and also not the point, but a lot of shit goes on there (especially at the lab) which really cements their bond, and then Billy shows up! Obviously shit is super complicated and messy there, but ultimately Laurie chooses to side with Steve and that’s a very big moment for her.

They get together somewhere between seasons 2 and 3 and are a confirmed couple by the start of summer! They’re endearingly obnoxious, not so couple-y that it’s annoying (except to Max) but very affectionate and spend all of their time together. Because of their respective traumas, they both take communication very seriously and are entirely open with each other, to the point of codependency. I haven’t decided which plot Laurie will be in but I’m leaning towards Billy, and I know that being separated causes a whole lot of stress and panic to both of them. Laurie does also essentially move in with Steve once he learns about Neil and the California incident, which only adds to the codependency. They’re very sweet and love each other very very much, but they’re also very much the affectionate bullying type and enjoy teasing and mocking each other.

Eddie:

Eddie and Laurie are very much like Steve and Eddie in that by all logic they shouldn’t be friends, but they click so well! They both act tough (in different ways) but have hearts of gold and soft spots for looking out for kids. During the manhunt Eddie assumes that Laurie is with Jason and co since she was friends with them, but she’s actually the first of the teenagers to 100% believe him. According to Laurie, she knows what real (human) monsters look like, and Eddie’s eyes are innocent. They aren’t sure how to act around each other for a while but get closer in the later episodes and volume two! They’re similar to Steve and Robin in the unexpected queer besties dynamic but god they’re so ride or die for each other, and Laurie gets into at least one impressive showdown with Jason on the subject!

The Party Boys:

Laurie is fiercely protective over these boys! Initially she meets them as Max’s friends and is just glad that her little sister is making friends, but between the demodogs, the lab, and Billy, she very quickly grows very protective and the big sister instinct totally kicks in. She becomes closest to Will, once he isn’t possessed, and becomes the first person that he talks to about his sexuality. She also bonds with El during season 3, where she’s babysitting Max and El, but this is about the boys! She also becomes close with Lucas, and continues to always protect and defend him from Billy, and in season 4 we see her showing up to every single one of Lucas’ games and is always cheering the loudest. She helps him adapt to being popular but also makes sure that he knows that if he ever feels uncomfortable or like he’s being pressured into anything, he can just call or walkie her and she will always show up! He’s only done it once, when he got pressured into drinking and then freaks out, but she drops everything immediately to go get him. She’s very worried about Max and she’s struggling with losing Billy, but she refuses to lose these kids that she’s grown to love so much and she works hard to stay in their lives and to make sure that they know they can always count on her.

Thank you so much again for the ask! This was probably a lot more information than you were looking for but once I started I couldn’t shut up! I was initially planning to write about Tommy, Jonathan, and Jason too, but I figured this was already long enough so I ended up cutting them haha

Hi. I remember you not being a fan of westallen, especially because Iris and Barry have no chemistry and Candiceseems to hate her scene partner. I agree. They were cuter as siblings/friends but as a pairing especially one that's supposed to be ~ epic (tm) it's not pretty to watch.

Which is why I died when a friend told me they renewed their vows in the show?! I guess it's cause more of their supposed children showed up.

I cannot send you a gif but Candice- at the altar (?) looks like she is gone girl monologing. Kill Bill sirens are being heard. I don't know why they keep pushing them into those scenes when it's obviously not working. Renewing vows was not necessary. They didn't even have marital troubles. Release the poor woman already.

HAHAHAHA. I absolutely agree, I've watched s1-3 a few times bc it helps me focus while drawing, but one time I really watched it, and while Candice's eyes aren't particularly expressive in general, in s1-3, she had spark and energy and she actually looked like she liked Barry (as a friend) ?

I BELIEVED them as friends, and Candice looks like she ENJOYS sharing the same space as him. But the SECOND it has to be romantic? It DIES. She goes from disgusted to pitying and that's NOT what she should look like here lol.

She looks MISERABLE. I remember @zalrb asking me if they'd just had a fight before this and I laughed because no, this is just how they always look now. She doesn't want him touching her, he's afraid to touch her...it's a mess.

Rayna and Deacon from Nashville aren't perfect, but they have a stronger balance of that sexy but domestic couple situation that Westallen WANTS to be, but just isn't because well...negative chemistry.

Like this does NOT look like Iris comforting her husband, that looks like Iris comforting her buddy. Meanwhile, you can tell just by how they hold each other, Rayna and Deacon are romantic.

I mean...

Writing wise, the vow renewal made 0 sense because Iris wasn't in like 3-4 episodes, and then they explain she's got something wrong with her and the new force that controls time, who I guess are their children now (eye roll, they were all people before this, so they have their own biological parents presumably, why would they consider THESE random people their parents, anyway) was using all his power stabilizing her, and like...no one knew why, nor was anyone all that worried about it,least of all Barry, and then suddenly, she's fine lol and Nora and Bart show up from the future, and Barry was like "I thought I was gonna lose you."

WHEN?

Cuz...that's just over and we never talk about it again, but apparently this 3 minutes of screentime was so traumatizing Barry decided to propose again. Personally I think it was just an aesthetic thing, for Bart to sing, the "family" to be together and to reaffirm Westallen after deliberately keeping them apart for basically 2 seasons. Which is why when westallens were jumping down my throat about chemistry, I laughed because THE SHOW knows they have no chemistry. This is why we don't get romantic moments, this is why the only time we see "horny" westallen, we don't really see them and it's ONLY for the purpose of having a baby. And...this is the best we get? No sex obviously, but this is the best we get for the suggestion? No mussed hair, no smeared makeup, no misbuttoned clothes...mess.

Iris just always looks MISERABLE around Barry and Barry looks like he's afraid to touch her. It's a complete disaster, no wonder we don't even get an onscreen make out. but they made westallen the lynchpin of the show and can't break them up, and since nuff westallen shippers don't even seem to watch the show anymore, they throw bones like this vow renewal and "babymaking" to pull up viewership as the show gasps its way to the finish line. It's all SO BAD. Also LOL at the kill bill sirens. I sent that gifset of their vow renewal to zalrb since I watched the episode and she was like..wtf is this. Candice tried, in that moment she really reached for those tears, but she's so obviously looking THROUGH Grant and her eyes are dead, but he looks at her like he's constipated. It was awful. Every moment of that vow renewal was awkward. I agree, time to put this whole show and westallen out to pasture for good. Free my good sis from the shackles of this tragic arrangement lol.

Now Pat gave me two sets to chose from to show my process, so obviously I chose the more complicated one :P

I only work in Photoshop CC 2018. I know that there are programs out there for easier cutting and sharpening but I have only just figured out how to do that in PS and I am too lazy to figure out any other programs right now xD

1. Idea and Planning

This set, like most of my sets with lyrics started with me reading the poem, clutching my heart and going "oh shit this fits my favourite characters!!". The idea actually started with me thinking that the first stanza of the poem would go really well with wwx during the burial mounds arc. Then I realized that the last stanza fits lwj better than him and from there came the idea to contrast the both of them next to each other. This is when I realized I wanted to do a dark-light contrast set, though I did not know that I would go with red and blue at that time. My idea in the beginning was just to do a black and white set

I was really impressed by how Pat said that she plans her sets around exact timestamps. Because I don't do that at all ^^ I just get ideas for which scenes would fit (in this case the wwx burial mounds scenes and lwj's kneeling and punishments scene) and then I watch the scenes to narrow them down.

Back when I made this set, I still used a screenrecorder (AceThinker Screen Grabber Pro to be precise. They have a test version that allows you to record up to 3 minutes) and recorded the scenes I needed from Netflix. This worked well enough but now I have the entire show saved on an external drive and it makes a world of difference when it comes to gif sharpness

Now, in this case I had to repeat this step once because when I was almost finished, I realized that I wanted a gif for the lwj corner but let's pretend I didn't do that and that's the way this gif was always going to look because otherwise this post will be way too long ^^

2. Creation

Short disclaimer: The creation process for this gifset was anything but linear. Multiple effects I used here were things I had never tried before. I just had a vague idea and tried to realize it through trial and error. So whenever I say "then I did xyz", it is implied that I ultimately went back to that step several times and changed stuff ^^

I started with the Wei Wuxian part of the gif. I usually use a frame rate of 0,06 (with some variation depending on gif length and size). I work in timeline so I converted all the layers to a smart layer. Then I resized the gif into a square, leaving big chunks of the gif empty (as can be seen below.) I flipped the gif horizontally, so he is looking inwards. This was simple because I felt it fitted the composition better. Then I imported the Lan Wangji part of the gif, again with a frame rate of 0,06. (Image 2)

After that I created a layer for masking in a separate PS document by rotating a square until it was point down (is that a rhombus?). I sized it to match my gif (540x540 pxl) and copied it over. (Image 3) a bit of masking magic and ta da! There's the basic layout (Image 4)

I put a layer of solid black behind wwx to get rid of the transparent bits (Image 5) and then started adding more white and black to both sides by adding solid whit and black layers that i put masks on and changed the opacity as i needed (Image 6)

Then I fiddled with the colours a bit. The first thing I always do is using the curves layer to get more contrast. Then I use the colour balance tool and the selective colouring tool to get rid of that cql-typical cyan tint after that it's just trying to have it look "natural" while the colours still fit the overall scheme. This was difficult here because wei Wuxian’s side of the gif was very dark and when i turned up the saturation to see which colour dominated it was a very weird mixture of multiple colours. That's when i decided that I'd just go with red on his side, since lwj's side was already so blue and those to look great as contrasts.

After that just came a lot of fiddling with selective colour layers and brightness and contrast unti I has happy. There really wasn't much to it ^^. (Image 1)

After that I added the text. I knew I wanted the two lines to for a square of some kind. So I tried different fonds until I arrived at the one below. The two lines are in seperate layers so I could move them around and change the spacing between the letters until I was happy with the layout. I also changed the layer mode for the text to "difference" (is that what it's called in english? my PS is set to german sorry ^^), keeping their colour white. (Image 2)

I originally hadn't planned adding anything else but I felt like the gifs (plural because I switched between the gifs of this set) was still kind of empty and lacking, so I added the tear down the middle (a tutorial for that is either coming up later or already posted. I recently got an ask for this :)) (Image 3)

It still felt empty after that, so I tried different overlays. Okay no, first I wasted a lot of time on different free image sides but then I tried out different ones until I chose the one you can see in the finished gif. I liked that one because a) I felt the round shape was a nice contrast to all the straight lines already there and b) because once I applied a black and white filter to it and switched the layer setting to "difference" (again, i hope this is the correct translation) it looked a bit like a moon. And that's it! :)

Although in general, these gifs took so much fiddling! I went back and forth between them a lot and sometimes almost redid the entire thing because I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning and by the time I noticed an error, the only way to fix it was ti redo everything. So yeah, this set definitely is the the one that took me the longest out of all the ones I've posted so far.

3. Posting

I save all my gifs to my drafts first to see what they look like put together and to check if they look any different on mobile. Usually i do this several times and change stuff until I'm happd enough with it to hit post. Once i am happy enough, i can't hold back. Doesn't matter if it's at a time when nobody is online, i hit post 😅

1. Where do you get your inspiration for art?

As a filmmaker, I know that once a show airs, it changes, people can make their own interpretations, meanings and create connections that maybe the filmmaker didn't even think of. So there's always a trigger, a thought that I get from what I've seen on screen or a parallel that I want to showcase. Sometimes I get inspired by other people's art or train of thought, too. The 100 was my favorite show, I knew it like the palm of my hand, so it was easy to have something inspire me. Also, my love for the characters, mostly Bellamy and Clarke, is what kept me creating for so long.

2. What’s your favorite part of the creation process?

My favorite part from the whole giffing process is to actually play around with the scenes I chose, to put it all together and start making different colorings and changing the scenes a lot. I love to make my own fun and aesthetically pleasing version of the scenes. But I'd say that the most satisfying part of creating is to actually see the fandom's response to it, what they think of it, what meaning they put on your work and if they love it or not.

3. Do you have a favorite piece you’ve done?

Yes, I have several. This one may be my favorite. Because of the complexity of it, it took me a long time to finish it because there were so many scenes put together, so it was incredibly satisfying to see it ready and in my opinion, very beautifully. I think it adds more meaning to Bellamy's "death" this way, it's possible to imagine visually what went on Clarke's head at the time and pairing up with that head x heart Gabriel quote, it made that much more sense when thinking of bellarke's story up until that moment.

4. What was the most difficult piece to create?

This one here. Usually what I find most draining in this process is to organize how the gifset will turn out and to find all the scenes I want. There were a lot of gifs that I cut out from this version because I simply didn't have space anymore. Very often I get nervous I may be forgetting something so I spend long hours racking my brain, searching things on google to make sure it's all there and to figure out how I'm gonna make the edit.

5. What’s a piece that you would love someone to prompt you?

I don't have anything specific, it's been hard for me to reconnect with the show since its ending because that was not The 100 for me. I didn't even watch the last 3 episodes. But I'd love to edit anything Bellarke (before the disgrace) or something about the delinquents, maybe with transitions and parallels, which is something I really like to work with.

Hello My Friends! How are you? Another important meta from season 8, and we are here... We are in the crypt scene!! Our hearts will break... 😭

I want to say thank you to my friend @agusvedder she made the gifs for this meta and discussed with me the episode.

Okay... Let's do this... **Deep breath**

Sam knows

In episode 8x17 Goodbye Stranger, Sam and Dean knew Castiel was behaving weird.

Although that, Dean had prayed to him because he was worried about Sam, but as we learned in the previous volume of this Chronicles, he didn't pray just for that, but also, because he wanted to see Castiel. Because Dean missed him and he was worried about him too.

So, when Sam discovered Dean was praying to him, even knowing Castiel was acting weird, he didn't just ask once, but twice about why his brother prayed to him...

This first time, Sam is in awe, but this second time... With the whole thing digested, and with Castiel off, Sam is more direct.

DEAN: Well, he puts the "ass" in "Cas," huh?

SAM: He's definitely off.

DEAN: Off? He hasn't been right since he got back from Purgatory. We still don't know how he got out of there

Okay, this is a discussion the brother had had already, maybe a lot of times. They both were agreed about Castiel behaving weird. Then... Sam has this clear, but it caught his attention Dean's doesn't have things clear apparently, because he prayed to him. So... Here is the question, direct, and without anesthesia...

And Dean's face is acting everything. Okay, you can argue with me about this point, because later on this episode we will have this dialogue...

SAM: I'm fine.

DEAN: No, you're not fine. You haven't been fine since the first trial. That's why I called Cas.

Yes, Dean prayed to Castiel because he was worried about Sam, we already knew that... But... What we know too is... He prayed waiting for Castiel to appear right there in his room, remember? So... One of the reason, the big one, is the necessity of Castiel to heal his brother, to protect him, but the Hidden One, that one that makes Dean try to hide, and put himself flustered when Sam asked him the reason why, I because he wanted to see Cas, because he's worried about him, and he missed him. Because he loves him.

So here he had the perfect motive again to show his brother he called Cas because he was worried about his little brother's healthy... Perfect... No homo there my friends... Just a worried brother calling for his totally platonic bro/friend to help him.

But Sam is insightful and clever, I want you to jump with me to the last scene... We can do that because we all know this episode like our names, so... A little more of Sammy knows...

After the crypt scene, they were back on the road in baby, Castiel had left, as we know, and this is what Dean says to Sam...

SAM: So... what happened? I mean, Cas touched the tablet, and it reset him to his factory settings or something?

DEAN: I don't know. And I don't care. All I know is that he is off the reservation with a-a heavenly WMD. Listen, man, I can't take any more lies -- from anyone.

Dean is mad, Sam gets it immediately, he's mad. But not at Sam. Sam gets that too.

Because when Dean avoids a topic... Is because that's really affecting him...

And then... This song starts to play... And watch Sammy's face...

Okay, this is a lover of one night, a lover that doesn't get strains to anyone. After Dean confessed his feelings to Castiel on that crypt, Castiel decides to run away with the tablet, leaving Dean alone, heartbroken and feeling unrequited. Again.

Now I believe in what you say

Is the undisputed truth

But I have to have things my own way

To keep me in my youth

We are still talking about Castiel here.

Like a ship without an anchor

Like a slave without a chain

Just the thought of those sweet ladies

Sends a shiver through my veins

Castiel deciding to leave again, he rejected Dean's feelings (from Dean's POV) and help. He's a lone wolf. B

And we had reached Dean's POV at this point, he's mad, and very very angry. Because he was rejected and Cas didn't trust him. So he's saying goodbye to him.

Dean pushing down all his feelings again.

This is Dean trying to say goodbye to his feeling for Castiel, is not for me, goodbye sweet devotion, because he feels so hurted and heartbroken, he decides to push everything down, because he feel unrequited.

Now... Let's come back to one important thing right here... Megstiel time...

Megstiel brought us Jealous!Dean back again

The classic Megstiel scene, is quite interesting, because Meg can't stop to seduce Cas by throwing at him a lot of sugestives quotes... I won't talk about the whole conversation, Agua is making a gifset I will relate with this meta because sadly, I just can put 10 gifs to show you all the things I saw, but what I want to point here is an idea I constructed in my head since I met Castiel. Please read this mini meta here I wrote time ago, about Castiel's seduction techniques.

And you will catch what I need to show you now in this piece of dialogue...

CASTIEL: These wounds have festered. [CASTIEL wraps gauze around one of MEG's wrists.]

MEG: You really do know how to make a girl's nethers quiver, don't you? [MEG is sitting on the couch, holding an open bottle of booze, she's been cleaned up a bit.]

CASTIEL: I am aware of how to do that. Although it doesn't usually involve cleaning wounds.

Did you read that?!!!!!! Cas is aware about seduction techniques!!

As I said on my mini meta, I'm pretty sure Castiel used his seduction techniques with Dean... And he still does that! Because HE KNOWS HOW TO DO THAT!!

Plus his innate sexiness... BOOM! HERE YOU HAVE THE HOTTEST ANGEL ON THE GARRISON.

Okay, let's talk about Jealous!Dean. We had two scenes in which we had Dean feeling jealous in Meg presence.

First scene, and how writers and producers are very aware of the fandom's ships... And they use it.

Dean is saying this with disgust, why he feels jealous always about Meg? Well, maybe because Castiel kissed Meg so passionate that time? And they had that special friendship in season 7???

And then this one... Dean acting like cockblocker, really Dean? Control your jealous face please 😏

The Crypt Scene

Okay, we're here, Carver era, crypt scene, a place in which Dean had to say I LOVE YOU to Cas, making Destiel canon, but he did, because Jensen's was so right back then, Dean wasn't prepared...

But... What happened in this crypt? Everything!

Okay, First of all, I need you to rewind the video, at the beginning of this episode, remember that scene with a lot of Dean's killed by Castiel, with Naomi watching? Yeah... She made Cas kill a lot.of Dean bc she knew what Cas felt for him. So she needed to be sure Cas will kill Dean when it will be needed. She was a bitch...

Then... When CAS and Dean were alone at the crypt, and Dean had the angel tablet in his hands... The program in Castiel's head started to roll. Dean noticed Castiel was trying to get the tablet, and he didn't trust in Cas because he was acting weird... So... He tried to get from the angel some truth... Like... How he had been pulled out from Purgatory...

CASTIEL: I can't let you take that, Dean.

DEAN: Can't or won't?

CASTIEL: Both.

DEAN: How did you get out of Purgatory, Cas?

Immediately, after seeing that wasn't HIS CAS, Dean threw that question.

The entire scene flips between the crypt and Naomi, and how CAS is trying so hard not to obey and keep Dean safe.

DEAN: Just tell me how you got out of Purgatory. Be honest with me -- for the first time since you've been back -- [DEAN nods towards the stone he's still holding] and this is yours. [CASTIEL's blade drops into his hand.]

Dean needed to hear the truth. Everything, he needed to hear too... Castiel didn't stay because he didn't want to come back with him... He needed Cas to say that was a lie too...

DEAN: Cas. Cas, I don't know what the hell is wrong with you, but if you're in there and you can hear me, you don't have to do this. [CASTIEL attacks, DEAN blocks the blow with the stone.] Cas! [Flashes of light, thunder rumbles.]

Dean sees Castiel isn't there, he's defending himself against a robot, where is his friend? He tries to call h back, to drag him to reality. He tries because he believes he can reach him.

And while this is happening and Cas began to hit Dean, Naomi tries to keep him under control, because Castiel is fighting back strongly, Naomi wants him to protect the tablet and kill Dean, and Cas wants to protect DEAN.

NAOMI: Do you realize what that tablet can do for us?

CASTIEL: I...

NAOMI: For heaven?

CASTIEL: I won't hurt Dean.

NAOMI: Yes. You will. You are.

The scene is too intense, and Cas keeps hitting Dean, and Dean keeps calling him. Till... This happens...

Look at Dean's hand, trying to reach Castiel...

Dean is not just trying to reach Cas with his hand, but also with his words... He's sure Castiel is there, and he's sure he will listen, and he's sure Castiel will come back to him. That's why he tries with everything he has... With honesty. Tries to get him back with honest feelings and words... We need you... Not hell... Cas... I NEED YOU. The same words he used when he convinced him to follow him in Purgatory. I need you, don't leave me. This I NEED YOU is so so important, is the replacement of the I LOVE YOU that never happens. So is the big I NEED YOU. Dean's naked feelings. His last shot. His bare soul. Right there. Chest open, heart beating.

Dean is waiting for Castiel's reaction after his confession, and immediately after that honest I NEED YOU, Castiel breaks connection, and he's back again.

Not the tablet, why not? Because the I NEED YOU is what makes Cas stop. And when he touches the tablet, and Crowley reveals the tablet was what kept Castiel disconnected with Naomi, why he still was disconnected after losing the tablet? Pure logic, my friends, the tablet had nothing to do with this disconnection, it was Dean's I NEED YOU, who worked, and brought Cas back. The love. The Profound Bond.

And it hurts a lot, because while Castiel was hitting him, Dean was grabbing his forearm, with fear, he thought Cas will kill him... But he just couldn't stop grabbing him, he couldn't stop being close to him like that. He has to get his angel back... And when CAS reach's his face with his hand... Dean grabbed Castiel's forearm again, you have to rewatch the scene is so romantic and angsty, Dean was terrified, but he just remained there... Kneeled... Tryin to make Cas to hear him, and trying to get him back, and he did it.

The big question the writers left to us, we already know the answer...

DEAN: Well, w-what broke the connection?

CASTIEL: I don't know. I just know that I have to protect this tablet now.

DEAN: From Naomi?

CASTIEL: Yes. And from you.

Castiel said this, because it was Purgatory all over again, and Leviathans chasing after Cas, but this time, were Angels and a dangerous Naomi, so he needed to put that tablet safe and far away from everyone, and from Dean, to protect him again.

But what Dean understood here is CAS DOESN'T TRUST ME, AFTER I CONFESSED MY FEELINGS, HE DOESN'T TRUST ME. And his heart broke again, and we had to hear that song in the car... Dean is heartbroken, as the first half of the season showed us, tons of broken and eaten hearts... He's disappointed with CAS... And he's feeling rejected and unrequited...

To Conclude:

This episode showed us Sam Winchester getting the idea of what Dean feels for Castiel.

We also had Megstiel as a tool, because it brought us back Jealous Dean and we got the idea about how Castiel is conscious about seduction techniques.

But the most important scene, one of the most emblematic of Destiel scenes, was the Crypt scene. The I LOVE that never happened, but a huge love Confession from Dean to get Castiel back.

The confession brought Castiel back, but when the angel ran away from Dean, Dean felt rejected, heartbroken and unrequited, and he began to pushing all his feelings down again.

I hope you like this meta, I suffered a lot, but we'll.. I love this scene...
