Hello 🤗, I’ve kind been following your project for months now and I have to say I’m glad people are still acknowledging Egyptian Mythology. I know it doesn’t really have all the drama and pizzaz I suppose Greek or Roman mythos does which is why people like it more, however I find your work refreshing because it seems like you actually care about Egyptian Mythos. I’ve been obsessed with it for years and I’ve even done my own research over the years myself and could never fully understood why people didn’t care for it as much. Even after watching Hollywood Blockbuster films like “Gods of Egypt” the movie frustrated me in so many ways but the biggest one being that it felt like a knockoff of Clash of the Titans. So I’m done with my little rant but I was curious on what sparked your interest in making this project? How often are you taking creative liberties with your story? Also how do you come up with such creative designs for your characters will also keeping the historical consistency of Ancient Egypt?

So, first of all, thank you so much for your kind words, they really made my day!

Second of all, let me reply to all of your questions in order so I don't forget anything lol

Ok so, as for what sparked my interest in making this project, It all started with me playing a mythology-themed video game called Dislyte. I've always been into Egyptian Mythology since I can remember, but when I was a kid, things were a bit different from now and I didn't have access to the Internet as I have now as my father would set up a limited screen time for me and my sister on the computer, and also at that time, I just didn't know how to research things properly lol. So, nostalgia led me to explore new and old media about Egyptian mythology and do some proper academic research to get to know the main and minor myths better. During this "research phase" I discovered the Korean manhwa Ennead, which inspired me and my character designs a lot. Afterwards, as I realized how little material exists about this mythology in particular, I decided to create something myself that could help fill that gap, something that could bring people together and spark their interest so that I could have someone to talk to about Egyptian Mythology lmaooo. But also, I always wanted to work on an original comic series and so I thought that this could have been the best time to start! And so, House of the Sun was born!

Now, talking about artistic liberty, it really depends on the comic we're talking about. In Thoth's Library, I try to be as accurate as possible to the actual myths, only taking some artistic liberty when I need to link some facts that would otherwise sound a bit random and incohesive to the narration, adding some motivations and sub-plots to link all the stories together while trying to stay true to the original sources. Although, this might change in some future arcs. In Young Horus, although some connections are accurate, I decided to fill all the gaps I could with an original coming-of-age story for Horus the Younger to create something new and have fun with it, so the majority of the things happening in the comic are purely fictional. Of course, I always make sure to put a disclaimer for that in every episode just in case ahahah

As for the inspiration behind the character designs, I wanted to create something very personal and somewhat accurate in terms of clothing and overall presentation without including those classic elements we all know, like the animal heads or masks we often see in other media. I was especially inspired by something I noticed in Ancient Egyptian art, like the fact that some gods like Ra have both a human and animal form, and so I was like, you know what? I'm leaving the animal iconography to other contexts, I'm going full human this time lmao. Well, kind of, since I still wanted to include some animal traits that are very iconic to Egyptian art, like the tails (often used in classic Egyptian iconography to depict power and royalty), the ears and sometimes the paws too because, why not? 😂

It was certainly a pleasant surprise - but emphasis on the “pleasant” more than the “surprise”. Like Kinchan, Arisha’s actually a fan of K-pop. Check out the hobbies section on her Love Live! Wikia page:

She listens to K-Pop songs. Her favorite K-Pop groups are Girl’s Generation, 2PM, and Super Junior.

If you happen to recognize these names, then you’ll know that these groups are a bit old school by now. IIRC this information was pulled from old blog posts, so Arisha’s tastes may have changed.

What’s interesting is that only half of Aqours used Korean in their call-and-responses: Aikyan changed “Ohayohane” to “Annyeonghaseyo-hane” (a pun on annyeonghaseyo, the Korean word for “hello”), and Shukashuu and Suwawa read their translated call-and-responses from a paper. Arisha, as you know, did her call-and-response plus her character introduction lines in Korean! It looks like Arisha’s retained some Korean knowledge from her past as a K-pop fan, and it’s led to her marvelous fluency.

In fact, she astoundingly still remembered her introduction during the recent November niconama (nearly a week after the Seoul FMT). While Aqours was on the subject of Korean phrases they remembered from their trip:

Kinchan: Hey, wasn’t Arisa’s introduction done entirely in Korean?

Arisha: I still have it memorized.

Kinchan: Whoa!

Ainya: You’re kidding me!

Arisha: I can still recite it.

Kinchan: Really?

Arisha: “I like you who has fallen for my smile” in Korean is “Nae miso-e bbajin dangshin-eul joahaeyo”.

…which prompted the following reactions from me when I was watching the livestream:

You know what was so killer about that line? In the original Japanese version, Arisha says “a・na・ta”, putting special emphasis on each syllable for the word “you”. Very fortunately, the Korean translation of that phrase, dangshin-eul, happens to be the same length. Arisha made sure to put the same emphasis on each syllable accordingly.

I would’ve been satisfied with just hearing Arisha read the line from a scrap of paper, but seeing her recite it purely from memory, and with such attention to detail… _:(´ཀ`」 ∠):_

Ahhh Milky I hope you're having a good last week! It's unfortunate you can't do more during your last week but I'm sure packing is very time consuming and saying good bye is so important! I hope your flight home goes smoothly too btw!! When I studied abroad I had a layover in turkey which took me in the wrong direction from getting back home so it ended up being like a 12 hour flight home when it could've been 8 😭 it wasn't very fun 😭 I'm sure it'll be really long coming home all the way from Korea. I have exciting news! Or well it isn't that exciting but I've really started learning Korean now! I was doing it very casually earlier, but now I've installed the Korean keyboard and I'm trying to write little mini letters to Kingdom all in my own Korean! I used to solely use a translator even for short messages bc I couldn't spell or anything 😭 but I'm taking my duolingo more seriously and I'm actually making a lot of progress! I was able to tell Kingdom that I love them and introduce myself but I also did more complex things (at least imo LOL) like say their songs are cool~ I felt so proud of myself hehe one of the members who speaks English cheered my message where I told him I was going to write out a short message to him in Korean and then I did it and I'm just 🥰 Dann is our polyglot king so for him to cheer me on (literally) was so special. This might be a silly question, but what was your favorite word/phrase that you learned while in Korea??? Like it made you feel cool to know it or you were proud of yourself for learning it. but layovers are confusing and the worst ㅎㅁㅎ that's why i feel so lucky we found a flight without one! so even if it was long and rough, we at least were not so confused <3

waHHH you're learning korean?! i'm so proud T-T learning a language takes a lot, especially when the country you live in doesn't speak it, and i'm especially touched that kingdom have become a motivation for you to learn this new language :")

ah! rather than learning any big cool phrases, i found learning smaller things like how to greet a restaurant owner or store worker goodbye cool. ah but!! i find it interesting that to ask if someone has eaten, you say have you eaten rice? (밥��� 먹었어요?) rather than have you eaten food? (음식을 먹었어요?) because rice is such an important part of the korean diet that rice is the equivalent of food and vice versa :D

super stunlocked from this weekend, so much good happened. bi-weekly monthly journaling time lol. i think imma add this cute little drawing every time i get into it so i can find what i wrote more easily.

so, August 2019 is when we met, on Tinder. it'll be 3 years in not too long. i've learned a lot about myself, what i want, and the kind of person i want to be with over the years. i had always sort of fallen into awful relationships by crazy circumstances, and never really considered myself in them. i would budge on my deal breakers, convince myself i would be OK sacrificing things i'd known i wanted for myself.

i was really intentional about pushing myself out of my people pleasing comfort zone with my boyfriend. i remember really being into him just a month or so out from our first date. i wanted us to be exclusive, and i shared how i felt. he wasn't sure, and i kindly told him, ok, thank you for being honest. i'm really glad to have met you, and i hope we can be friends then.

maybe half a week later, he changed his mind haha.

it was such an effort for me to say that to him, to stick by what i wanted. i felt terrified. but i did it! so proud of that.

anyways, all that is to say is that i was able to get the courage to have many honest, candid conversations like that with my boyfriend, and i really do feel that if i had continued to live my life suppressing my desires out of that fear of rocking the boat, i wouldn't have the great, fulfilling relationship i have now.

last weekend, i had the scariest conversation yet. we'd been talking about moving in together, and i had this nagging fear in my head that like. we'd do that, and that would be it. i want to be lovingly married, and have children, and a relationship where we build together. i was worried moving in would be a final step instead of a next step.

so, i tried to bring it up. i actually choked on my words at first lol. but as soon as i got it out -- "are you interested in talking about marriage to me?" -- he smiled and said of course.

intermission, i can't get over the way my partner's patience, honesty and kindness has given me the room to heal so much relationship trauma. every time i get scared to have conversations, it's a reaction. every time he shows me i don't need to be, it's like... surreal. healing.

so we talked about marriage. how we want to treat moving in as a next step, and not the final step. we want to be married in the next two years, have a small and intimate wedding with two ceremonies -- one American traditional, the other Korean traditional. not spend too much on that wedding, so we can have a nice honeymoon. take a year or two before trying for children -- he says he wants two.

i'm starting to cry a little now lol. this is a brand new feeling for me, it's like strength and joy together? he loves me, man. like actually loves me. he doesn't stop when my weight goes up, or i get laid off, i go through it with some depressive episodes. no gaslighting, no withholding of affection, no meanspirited criticisms, no disappearing and reappearing, or intuition telling me he's losing interest or cheating.

and he's sure about me. that's a powerful feeling.

TVXQ Concert Circle - #with In Jakarta

“Definitely an unforgettable concert experience. The dazzling stage is just too much, the concert literally climb up into THE BEST concert i have ever been to. Everyone alive should at least attend one of their concert, and you’ll have no regrets left.” - me

“The energy, the performances, the stage, the visual, the lightnings, are just beyond words. Despite the small venue, TVXQ brings out their very best act like it was in stadium/dome. Their professionalism is what everyone should look up to.” - me

Some quoted words above are me acting out as critics but,

HOLY SHIT AFTER SO MANY YEARS THEY FINALLY CAME AND HELL YEAH THEY CLIMBED UP INTO THE BEST CONCERT I'VE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE.

THE STAGE, THE ENERGY, THE PERFORMANCE, THE SOUND, THE LIGHTNINGS, THE VISUAL, HOLY SHIT THAT WAS THE VERY BEST.

They are all very true. Sounds a little bit exaggerating, but THAT IS THE TEA yeorobeun. ok sorry, pardon me.

So am gonna tell you guys about this amazing experience. i can actually say that my literacy is not that good especially in english but since i want to improve my english skill, here i am trying. So....

At first i kinda worried if TVXQ gonna cancelled the concert again like in the Philippine because the venue was small and only 1 section was sold out but the day is finally came!!!! ALHAMDULILLAH.

When i entered the venue, i was kinda sad because there were section that was not packed enough and had some space but what's on my mind that day was "i'm going to have fun, i'm going to see them in real life, i'm going to sing my heart out!" and turned out all the crowd think the same as mine? lmao because the energy we poured during every song was so loud maybe because there's a lot of people who has been waiting for 16 years also!! If i compared it to my Eyes On You experience, it's like, when i'm doing fanchant because of the sound and my own voice, i can't hear clearly if the fanchant was loud or not but in this concert, holy shit, i heard the fanchant so loudly!!!!!

I'm glad that everyone who attended the concert have memorable experience to bring back home and as encouragement to face the real life that's gonna happen in the next day (lmao it's for me).

As for the concert, i never expect that the setlist has that flow so the songs feel connected to each other somehow. It was also thanks to the VCR that contained of hotness, handsomeness, and funny videos.

Bounce, Something, and Top of The World became the opening act and seems like to hold a magician concept! And it was so much fun lmao i can honestly say that i don't really like Bounce before but when it was sung at the concert heeeeeeol it's so good!!

After that, Yunho and Changmin introduced themselves and i love the way they speak Bahasa lmao. Yunho was like "Sudah lama tidak bertemu. Apa kabar semuanya!!!" and Changmin was like "Saya kangen kalian semua" and did a yes pose (lmao he is so cute) as we answered yes though it's not a question, it's a statement lol.

After that was Truth and then Love Line, my favorites of their own separate albums ❤ and then Tonight. In my honest opinion, Tonight is a hard song to sing because it is full of high notes and truthfully the 5 were singing it with so much effort and then now it's only 2 who is singing it, my heart is weeping. I really appreciate the hard work that Yunho and Changmin put on singing this song, and it was not disappointing at all, it was beautiful. VERY BEAUTIFUL. I CAN'T. I love you guys, truly. Thank you for singing this song.

Now was the time for Yunho solo. He sang his newest single Follow, although i prefer City Lights he he The Chance of Love came after, holy shit, it was the remix version that they sing in MBC Gayo. Changmin's high note in "i will take you higher~~ i will take you HIGHEEEEEEER" is just too good, i am in awe. Sooner than Later came next. It was not expected that Sooner than Later would also became a performance full of hotness, though still can't beat Before U Go which was came after, but still.

AND THEN THE PEAK OF HOTNESS CAME (yes, it’s Before U Go!). MY HEART. OK THIS IS MADNESS MY HEART WAS LIKE "OMG OMG OMG ALLAHU AKBAR" because it was that deadly ass performance. You know what i mean if you know what kind of performance Before U Go is. Thank you again Yunho and Changmin that was brilliant. My life is now complete.

So, here am gonna spill my Before U Go fancam that was intended to be my private belongings but, if i don’t do this you guys will not get what i mean TT

The next was the ballad stage, TVXQ sang Lazybones and Mideoyo. When they started singing Lazybones, all the white lights turned on them and at that exact moment, me and everyone around me be like "MALAIKAT" which means "ANGEL" HAHAHA.

And finally, Changmin's solo Beautiful Stranger. Have been waiting for this because the song is just beautiful itself. My most favorite of Changmin's solo and the 2nd is In a Different Life. Changmin's kind of solo is really put me to lay back for awhile.

After that is Vertigo and Mirotic. MIROTIC IS THAT PERFORMANCE WHEN I LITERALLY PUT MY LUNGS OUT TO DO THE FANCHANT. IT WAS CRAZY. MIROTIC WAS CRAZY.

Hug and Balloons came next! Hug was kinda beat up not like the original one. Looking at Changmin and Yunho singing this song really reminisce the old one and they both look very different (lmao ofcourse!). Balloons was so fun!! We jumped a lot and literally shout so loudly "JIIINAGABORIIII" lol anyway they showed up with a boyfriend look and huhu they're so handsome TT after that is Dream, still with the boyfriend look.

In the bridge of Balloons, Changmin was like pointed to our side and Yunho was like saying something in korean and told us to sing "La~ La La La La~" and then after our turn, Changmin was like "Kiri~" means it's the left side turn to sing and then he said "Semuaa" which means "All" and then Yunho followed along saying "Semua semua semua!!" And then he said "Sekali lagi!! (Once more!)" Lol why are they so cute 😭

After the kind of cute, fun and lay back jumping stage, it’s suddenly turned into MAXIMUM-KYHD-RISING SUN stage. IF MIROTIC WAS CRAZY THAN THIS PART OF THE CONCERT WAS CRAZIER!!!! IT IS THAT CLIMAX HOLY SHITTTT and what made me upset was, in the middle of Keep Your Head Down,  my phone's storage was suddenly full FAAAAAAAAAKKKKK fortunately my external storage was still empty, thankfully i have still got the full footage of Maximum and Rising Sun and half of footage of Keep Your Head Down. Thank God! but still TT

After that was Morning Sun, Yunho and Changmin threw balls to the audience. And waw Changmin's throw was really far i'm impressed.

The last but not least, Circle. The song that really fits for an ending of a concert when i first listened to it. The melody, the rhythm, the tunes, all of them, i love it. HUHU and finally i can hear it live TT

At the ending ment, it felt sentimental as in Yunho and Changmin actually keep repeating the “16 years” and keep saying thank you as if they were kind of regret to hold their first concert here just now, while they should’ve hold concert here sooner, like YES YOU SHOULD HAVE COME SOONER! nonetheless, the important thing is they held their solo concert here finally, it’s always better to be late than never. So, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for including Indonesia in your tour!!!! and i won’t forget your promise to come back here again and will definitely come to watch you guys again!

I felt very satisfied after the concert, despite the waiting-outside-the-venue thing that got your ass burned and skin got tanned (lol), the concert was that magical i came home weeping lol. I know that TVXQ consists of main vocal of their separate trainee groups but i really think that the recording tape of CD or DVD did them injustice! Their vocals are SO much better than the CD! While other groups sound the same as the CD, TVXQ are much greater. I think the CDs can't contain the greatness of TVXQ's voices.

It's been more than a month and i still can't get over the concert, instead, i love them more than ever! To think that i'd jump to this blackhole again lol....

Don't hate me but I thought this was just an alright book. I've read better contemporaries. Did I think it was cute? Yes, mostly. Did I find Lara Jean overreacted to everything? Yes, yes I did. She could have handle things so much better with Josh if she just was open about it like she was with Peter and their whole fake relationship. 

I like the family dynamics. I like how they banded together to help their family grow instead of stall because of the loss of their mother. I like how Lara Jean and her sisters are half Korean because hey that's me!

I liked the idea of Lara Jean's letters getting out but who puts the person's actual address in them!?! Things could have been avoided! But I must say it made things interesting that she did. lol

I really like the growth of Peter and Lara Jean’s relationship but I wanted more. The ending of the book was just blah to me. I don’t know....it could be because I watched the movie first and enjoyed it. The book didn’t live up to my exceptions of what people said about it. 

Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter. She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever. When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?

I found this better than the first book but I think it was because I liked the love triangle in it. lol Peter who? I loved that a boy from a past love letter popped up. I felt more with them than I did with Peter and Lara Jean. Peter was kinda of a jerk in this one and I was rooting for Lara Jean to dump his butt. lol I was mad when she made her decision in the end but I can understand why. 

My favorite character was Stormy. She was a hoot. I’m only hoping I can be like her when I’m her age. lol

I still like the Covey family. They fight but they’re over it so quickly. Not my family, we hold grudges. lol 

I really like the idea of their tag game. It seems like such a fun thing to do!

Overall I thought it was a cute story. I felt that the story progressed more than the last book. Here's hoping the movie comes out soon.

Man I was somewhat disappointed in this book. Honestly the author should have just ended it with the second book. I mean there was cute moments but it did nothing for me.

Lara Jean trying to find the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe. I mean I liked how passionate she is towards baking.

Prom. I just loved that whole scene and what happened after prom. My heart exploded 

I love how their dad wants the girls to keep up with their Korean heritage

Genevieve who? So glad all that drama is gone.

I really appreciate Lara Jean and Chris’ friendship. They’re so different but they’re the best.

I liked that John Ambrose McClaren made an appearance. I still think he got cheated

Why is Kitty written older than the 11 year old she really is? Don’t get me wrong, I love Kitty but she didn’t act like a kid her age is supposed to act. There was times I forgot she wasn’t the same age as Lara Jean because of the way she was written.

I really hate Margot. I didn’t like they way she treated Trina just because she wanted things to stay the same. Hello, you’ve been gone for 2 years! Things change. Also challenging your dad when it comes to your boyfriend. That was just wrong.

Lara Jean being so pushy when it comes to the wedding. Like it’s not your wedding? Ideas are appreciated but forcing your ideas onto people is not.

The whole drama when it came to going to different colleges. You know things could be solved without all the heartache with just talking. With how they handled all that, I don’t think they’ll make it through college together. Sad but true.

IF anything, I wish they would have written him as an annoyance to April [not in the SA sense, but relentless] and maybe have Ethan check him. Since they leaned so heavily on jealous Ethan, which is hot but also sad at the same time. Yeah 2019 was basically a moment for me. I started to really pull away from Tumblr and that day in particular was truly f*cked up. 4 HOURS worth of asks in my inbox over that shit. Hi, I found your tumblr when looking at korean universities for my study abroad this summer. It sounds like you are returning to Korea soon, congrats! I've already applied to Ewha but was looking into Sungkyunkwan and wanted to know about your experience. Did you find that the program focused more on grammar or speaking? How was your experience overall as far as atmoshere and location? Thanks!

Hello, thanks I guess :) I am indeed going back. Korean lessons for exchange students was less intense but I think there was a fair amount of conversation. We studied basic grammar but I remember we had a lot of in-class activities which pushed us to practice speaking. We had similar textbook content as language students but their book was much thicker ofc. But tbh I don’t know much about how classes goes for the language program. I know the professor only speak in korean while teaching them which can confusing but efficient too.The atmosphere was bomb lol. Personally I loved it. The campus is uphill (good leg workout) and not too big compare to other universities. Classes (business & korean language) were interesting and professors were friendly. There were 3 professors for language class & the classroom was quite small (about 20 students).Korean students will rarely approach you first. But you never know.. Joining clubs can help to meet new people. I joined one of the dance clubs, the leader spoke fluent english but she was a bit cold & seemed like she felt lazy to translate. But other members were really friendly, it’s a pity that their english and our korean was poor because I felt like they wanted to talk to us more.Hyehwa is a great area as well! I was glad to live there. It only gets busy on the weekends and it’s calm during weekdays. Unlike Hongdae, I was shocked when I went there: many people, tons of flyers on the ground, noisy… can’t imagine having a simple walk or studying in these conditions haha.
