As a lil surprise birthday present for @sawyer-is-unisex I wrote a Kyle-centric Stendyle oneshot!
Kyle awoke with a start, the sun shining through the blinds of their apartment and right into his eyes. He rolled over uncomfortably and shut his eyes forcefully, hearing the birds chirping outside in their irritatingly perky way and wishing he could just get back to sleep, or at the very least that his partners would wake up.
He moved upwards a little, enough to see the bedside table without disturbing his partners, and read the time. 6:05. The worst time in the morning. Not early enough to really roll over and go back to sleep, but too early to get up and do things. He sighed quietly and buried his head in the pillow.
He turned to look over at Stan, and then Wends, and then stuck his head back in the pillow. God, they were both so cute, especially when they were peacefully asleep like this. And he loved their company so much. But at the same time, he couldn’t help but shake the feeling he was some third wheel.
Sure, that was paranoid, he knew that. They loved him, and they said it all the time, and that they were so affectionate to him proved it. Even so, they’d been so happy together when it was just the two of them, and it haunted him that they might wanna go back to that.
Kyle lay restlessly on the pillow, looking at Stan’s cute face as he slept. He was buried half into the pillow, snoozing rather loudly, smiling cutely as he rested. Kyle grinned at his cute expression, and was extremely tempted to lean over and kiss him in that moment.
But figuring that’d annoy him, given how much Stan liked his beauty sleep, he decided against it. Kyle lay back down on the pillow, staring at the ceiling and waiting for the morning to come. But to his surprise, he heard a yawn from next to him.
“Hey, dude,” Stan mumbled quietly as he saw Kyle resting awake on the pillow. Kyle thought for a moment how funny it was that despite the three of them being partners, Stan still loved calling him ‘dude’ romantically. God, he was cute.
“Hey,” Kyle replied shyly, looking over at Stan nervously and smiling.
“You OK?” Stan asked. Kyle nodded listlessly in reply. “It’s OK if you wanna talk about something, you know,” Stan added.
Kyle sighed a little as he spoke. “Yeah, I know, but I feel like it’s just kinda dumb,” he admitted.
“No worries, man,” Stan smiled. “C’mere.” He opened his arms to offer Kyle a cuddle, and the redhead took him up on the offer instantly, cuddling his soft slightly chubby body close. It was even more comforting than he’d expected.
“Thanks, dude,” Kyle said quietly. Stan stroked his back gently, and Kyle felt his heart race a little. “It’s like... I dunno, I guess I just feel kinda like I’m in the way of you two sometimes?” he tried to explain. “I love you guys, but I hope you don’t feel like you’re just with me because you don’t wanna hurt me.”
“Are you kidding? You getting with us feels like the best thing that’s ever happened to me!” Stan smiled, hugging Kyle softly. “I swear every day I feel like the luckiest guy on earth for being with two wonderful people like you and Wends,” he added, kissing Kyle’s cheek. The redhead started blushing a little.
All of a sudden, he felt another pair of arms around him, and another face nuzzling against his neck. “You OK, Kyle?” it mumbled. Kyle turned around slowly to see a grinning Wends, their cute shoulder-length hair messy and cute as it always was in the mornings.
“Yeah, I guess, just kinda feeling down again,” Kyle replied shyly.
“I heard what you said,” Wends said quietly, “and I wanna say... we’re so glad you’re with us. Don’t ever feel like we were happier without being with you, because that’s bullshit. You’re awesome and sweet, and we think everything about you is perfect.”
Kyle blushed hard. “Like that!” Stan grinned. “You’re so damn cute when you get flustered with your blushy cheeks!” He blushed harder, and when Stan kissed his cheek and Wends kissed his neck softly, both of them cuddled around either side of him, he felt like he was gonna burn up from how flustered he was. Which was just how Stan and Wends liked him.
“Is it OK if we stroke your hair?” Wends asked, their hand hesitantly moving towards Kyle’s head. Kyle nodded, and he smiled as he felt their hands running gently through his long fluffy curls. Having them do that was actually making him feel better about his hair, like he didn’t want to always hide it under his ushanka anymore.
After a bit, Stan and Wends sat up, glanced at Kyle with a smile and kissed softly. Kyle thought amusedly about how much it used to hurt for him to see those two kissing, like it was them showing him they didn’t need him, they had each other. But now, he knew that they loved him too. Just to reinforce it, they both broke the kiss and leaned in so he could kiss each of them, and the three of them snuggled up softly together in the bed.
“You wanna get up?” Stan asked quietly.
Kyle yawned. “I kinda didn’t sleep too well last night,” he replied. “Any chance you guys wanna let me lie in?”
“Mind if we join you for it?” asked Wends. “I’m still kinda tired too.”
“I’d love that,” Kyle grinned, blushing a little again. He felt his heart race a little as they cuddled him softly between them, and before they knew it the three of them had fallen asleep, peaceful and relaxed as could be.
