There's an interesting discouse on social media now regarding Korean men.

It has been a hot topic for some time now, and I can't help but think about BTS. I'm scared that our perception about them may not be true coz of course, we are only fed of narratives from the company. Then, I also thought about Tae's dating rumor. Maybe there's more to him that his angelic image. I dunno. His rumor really put a dent on my perception about him.
I'm not singling out Korean men in general in this discourse coz men in general can be anti-feminist, too, but Korea is a highly patriarchal country. I can't help but wonder if our boys have this tendency, too.
Hi anon!
Oh, I have no doubt that in general... things are still very conservative in SK. Misogyny, racism, homophobia... all of those things are still present in progressive countries, so they are probably even more dominant in less progressive countries. But, one of the first lessons I learned when studying (but not finishing) psychology was: "never apply a generalization to individuals". While many men in SK may be like what that girl/woman described, I'm sure there are also many exceptions. You also have to understand, that this is her opinion, based on her experiences. You'd have to know more about her as a person to be able to understand her reasoning. Although I'm sure she's right about things in general, I wouldn't apply her description on just anyone.
I've not seen anything that makes me think BTS members are like what she described. They might have made some remarks about traditional gender roles, but.. BTS members are also still learning and evolving. I think it's safe to say that members have been somewhat critical about society. Members also have such a great bond with Army, who are predominantly women and girls. They hear our stories, they know what troubles us, so they have probably amended their thoughts on these matters many times. BTS is also, because of their travels to different parts of the world, way more worldly than the common SK man. They have seen different societies, they have heard different perspectives, and they have probably learned from that.
So, I am not worried anon. I don't think we are wrong about them.
#anon#taekook#but I always try to see the good in people#so yeah#someone else might think differently
