chapter 112

hi I'm back with some fyolai thoughts (Sept 20th feels like yesterday and I was definitely not ready to see the manga version...)

first of all, where's Nikolai's hand? there are two panels of him with The Overcoat hiding his entire arm, which cannot be a coincidence. Also, as we know, he's strong enough to support his own body weight with just one arm, and Fyodor looks a lot lighter than him

"Is that so?"

i have a feeling this is not a regular question. Nikolai is known to use quizzes, rhetorical questions, or in short - there's always hidden meaning. when I first read it, I imagined Gogol saying it in a sarcastic tone, albeit a bit more dejected than usual

when I watched ep 11, it seemed to me that the reasons for Gogol's sadness could be his freedom (to kill Fyodor himself; to use him to achieve his freedom) having been taken away from him, or losing his closest person without being able to do anything, and so on

but seeing the same events unfold in the manga, I cannot help but think that he's downcast because of how unpredictable the vampire's (as well as Dazai and Chuuya's) action were and how fast everything happened, Nikolai had just been talking to Fyodor and the next moment the latter's gone...

or not? given the two panels of Nikolai's hidden arm, perhaps he was able to save his friend this time (in case the theory that the different BSD media are alternate universes turns out to be true). Anyway, Nikolai saving Fyodor here seems more plausible in the manga, as well as Nikolai's hesitation more understandable (if Fyodor's nearby, would Nikolai want to admit out loud he doesn't actually want Fyodor dead?)

it might be just the translation but this was more heartbreaking than I remember it:

there's difference between "My life since I met him felt nothing like it did prior" and "The moment I met him I knew that my life had become something entirely different"

I know that I just talked about Nikolai admitting his feelings (if Fyodor can hear him) but it makes sense here. His hesitation is admitting his current emotions, something that affects the present/future, while the second situation is related to the past - something that Fyodor certainly already knows

perhaps this depends on the translation too but from what I've seen the ending of Nikolai's speech is also slightly different

"Fyodor was right. I fought so I can lose sight of myself. Now I..."

"It's just as he said. I had begun fighting in order to lose myself. And now... look what's happened... Now all I want is just..."

or in other words, Nikolai didn't lose himself, he lost Fyodor

ep 119: genuinely one of the coolest episodes i've ever listened to due in part to the fact that i was just as confused as the characters (i listened without a transcript). The ways the stranger fucks with the archives team while they're slowly going insane from how much they've forgotten and no longer understand is phenomenal. I'm gonna miss Tim.

GX Finalized!Subs Ep. 112: Platforming (WIP, but likely scrapping)

So, madman as I am, I was thinking I'd take a crack at trying to fix an error that happens during Manjoume's sky duel with Amon where, in the scene Manjoume uses Enchanted Fitting Room to Special-Summon the three Ojamas, the animators forgot to draw in the platform he's standing on and the ropes holding it up towards the heli above him. Of course, you'll also notice that Manjoume's legs/feet aren't fully drawn in, likely as a result of forgetting the platform that might've covered them.

I was going about this by first splicing in the platform and ropes from a similar shot a few minutes later, after Manjoume uses Ojama Delta Thunder to wipe Amon's field and the Ojamas drop back onto the field...

...and then redrawing the ropes and rope outlines as needed once I got everything into position (the ropes and all are still rough--didn't apply blurs or anything to blend yet), then duplicating and setting aside the full ropes so I could erase the parts of the ropes that Manjoume and Ojama Green/Fitting Room would be in front of. Eventually, I was going to try using Track Motion in AfterEffects to redo the slow zoom-out that happens here, mask out the platform and ropes, and work some editing magic to throw Ojama Green and his materializing card in front of the rope on the left, fading in the rest of it as Fitting Room fades out. And while I think I could kinda still make that work and make it relatively seamless, I'm not really getting Manjoume's legs right comparing between these two frames, and there isn't another shot in 111 or 112 with Manjoume in that position that works for reference, lol, so that'd be a bit jarring.

So, thinking I might just scrap this one to be on the safe side--unless a better Photoshopper might want to tackle his leggies there lol--and just highlight it. With that, I have a couple of small quality-of-watching fixes and translating the note Samejima leaves Chronos and Napoleon at the end to go, and then I'll start on the translated credits for 111 and 112 before getting into the episodes themselves.

Hi idk if you saw but the The Nevers got moved over to Tubi and they are releasing all episodes like over the span of next week "live" lol whatever that means for tubi but they are playing the episodes that never got released!!

Kind of exciting no? Like I know the show is dead but it would be fun to watch that team one last time

What are your thoughts? Oh I also think all the episodes will be available on Roku in the future too like summer.

"I can go alone. I'm leaving."

When he sees Khushi pretending to be happy, he realizes that she's accepting the situation without having the willingness to change his mind or to fight for him, to fight him back. He's so screwed, and he knows it.

He knew letting her go right now would drift them apart definitely.

Now that his family are already discussing about organizing his upcoming wedding soon, he backs up as fast as he can. He lied and used Lavanya. This is how toxic Arnav can be. He never actually believed he will marry her, he never wanted to marry her.

"Khushi gets in the car please! Let me fix this! Let's talk!" He know he fu*ked up but he doesn't know how really bad he did. He know she feels the attraction and suspected her to have feelings for him. But he has no idea that she's in love with him, deeply.

That's why her pretending to not mind him marrying someone else hurt him and will start having a very awful influence on him. He will behave like a child, trying everything he can so she confess her feelings first. "So I'm the one who is madly in love and you're just ok with whatever I do! You won't fight for me?" It didn't even cross his mind that Khushi was allowing him to kiss her without the promise of marrying because he doesn't how much she loves him.

Khushi already thinks she was delusional. She thinks Arnav didn't have feelings for her, he was just acting on the attraction and lust. She's hurt and feel terribly ashamed of allowing herself to have expectations, to dare to believe that despite their status difference, he would see her in a romantic light.

She has no idea how much he's already in love with her. He hasn't accepted it. He was not ready to marry her. He thought that kiss meant a promise for marriage. If he didn't overthink the repercussion of the kiss and they never shared their own views on marriage, I think he would've kiss her, and probably intended even more. He could've been ready to enter a romantic relationship with her, to make him his girlfriend, the most serious relationship he would ever have. But he still wasn't ready for marriage.

He's confused by her reaction, saying she's happy for his upcoming marriage with Lavanaya. "Why is she behaving this way instead of asking me questions like she did after I almost kissed her?"

He's about to give Khushi the answer to the questions she was asking. I don't think he wanted to tell her how much he's in love, but rather let her know he has feelings for her and letting her know that talking about marriage with Lavanaya was an impulsive act to run away from the fear he felt (of course he wouldn't have talk about his fear, but problably would have use an excuse to hide it from her). He wanted also to hear she cares and to know how deep her feelings are.

But instead she pretended she was happy for him and Lavanya. She would rather lie than confess. And he feels offended by the fact that she refuses to hear his explanations (yo, he's so toxic in this episode, every time i watch it again i am literally exhausted lmao 😭).

" -So you're happy? -Why won't I be happy? I'm very happy, I too wanted that … -Oh really? You wanted that?" Khushi has read the irony in his tone and felt ashamed again. She's ashamed he knew she was having expectations from him. But here Arnvav isn't trying to mock her but to push her to confess !

"-Just before, you were asking me something." Arnav's voice is now very soft when he's asking her. -"Not at all. What was I asking?" Arnav didn't know this reaction was just her trying to protect herself and not because she was rejecting him. In the future, she'll pretend she didn't call him, and will understand she was trying to hides the seriousness of her love for him. He won't misunderstand her and instead savor her shyness loool 😉.

-You were asking me something about your payal? "Ask me Khushi, I will tell you everything. Let's fix the situation." -The most important thing is, that the job for which I came here is over. "Why are you bringing up this topic after humiliating me? I get it, you don't love me. I'll burry my feelings and wish you happiness sincerely. I won't show you how delusional you made me be"

-So you don't want to know about your payal? "Khushi what are you doing? You're gonna reject my atempts to fix everything? You would rather push me away than talk about our feelings? Is that easy? It must be for you indeed, I'm the one who is in love. I'm the one prisoner of the love I have for you." -Miss Lavanya must be so happy. Both of you as a couple look so good ! "Who am I to dare to have expectation, to think Arnav Singh Raizada may have feelings for me, that he might love me … me and "my middle class mentality", with my status, with my parents in debt …" -Get out. "So you already thinking of leaving me. It's ok for you to watch us drift away this easily?! Good then just go, get out of my mind, get out of my heart!"

Arnav mouth is saying "I said get out." (Asr) but his eyes are saying "I beg you Khushi to help me fix this. Tell me you care. Ask me about your payal. Khushi, don't go!" (Arnav).

Khushi's dupitta, as always, lingers on Arnav presence. While watching Khushi struggling to get it free, he watches her stir attentively trying to read her. Here he's not angry, he feels regrets.

This ep was written by an Aboriginal actor and writer, Meyne Wyatt. Which is probably why Malakai getting racially profiled and beaten by the cop felt very real and not sensationalized just for the drama. Unfortunately the cop being a p.o.s. was to be expected, but what happened after with Dusty and Harper was also disappointing. They took advantage of him.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters 1x10 Beyond Logic (Season Finale)

Shaw and May search for Cate and make a startling discovery. Kentaro struggles with his loss.

Keiko Miura, the woman that you are. I'm Lee, gently cupping her face, amazed that she's still alive. I'm also Cate and May in the background, holding on to each other as Keiko and Lee reunite after all these days/years. The Titan fight at the end was epic! Seriously, what is this show's budget? Super hyped at what s2 could have in store. Especially with the return of a dangerously delectable Dominique Tipper.

Watching ep 112 feels like you’re sitting around a table with the whole cast, snacks and PHB in hand, trying to dissect rules and how to bend them for the extremely ridiculous plan you just came up with. Feels just like my homegame.

Has anything ever been as classically d&d as the hours of planning being unraveled in seconds when they overlook that the oil of etherealness would make vax (and keyleth?) visible to Vecna. And then Vax runs straight to the mansion, potentially revealing where everyone else is hiding. It’s just. I love them. I love d&d.

hii omg i love this yes 💘 i think it's worth watching most eps because jimin finds a way to be hilarious/entertaining in almost all of them, but these would be my must watch for A+ jimin content:

eps. 140/141 + the rest on youtube - their collab with the game caterers led to some of the most hilarious eps they've ever done, and jimin? jimin's just there to mess with everyone and i mean everyone

eps. 112/113 - good schoolboy jimin! you get stuff like jimin standing on a chair to "concentrate", being carried on jungkook's back like a sack of potatoes, and his infamously bad although exceptionally enthusiastic rendition of 'i will always love you' flute version

ep. 109 - VOICE ACTOR PARK JIMIN!! he is INSANELY good (and painfully shy) at this, his voice acting of judy hopps from zootopia will never stop amazing me. i remember even the co-director of zootopia saw the footage and said he'd love to work with him :')

ep. 103 - minimoni cooking ep 🍝 a mess of an episode, from jimin 'ordering' namjoon to call him hyung and be nice to him to the double salt incident and jimin's exasperated "chicken stock?!" that i can hear even in my sleep

ep. 85 - and all the eps leading up to this final one, but i'm putting this one here because of hobi gifting jimin an exclusive physical copy of his song promise :') idk it's just such a special moment, you can see how much it means to him and how overwhelmed he is with hobi putting so much thought into his gift!!

eps. 79/80 - THE gaslight gatekeep girlboss jimin episode. he will lie, cheat, throw tantrums his way through this game and i for one support him wholeheartedly <3

eps. 47/48 - the one where jimin is the village menace. i don't know why, but in my head this is every baby army's "oh so THAT'S what he's like" moment hsdhfsh like i don't know what the origin of slytherin jimin is but it might as well be this one right here

Yes, I'm still doing these! It's just happening more slowly than I'd like because writing for work + writing fic + trying to go to bed before midnight + so much amazing content being released that clearly must be poured over and dissected = less time to make guides. For anyone still with me, he's the next section!

Ep 112 “Dalbang School Part 1” (Ep: 5 / KM: 4)

The ones with BTS in a classroom driving Teacher Jin insane

5:58 - JM declares that he and Taehyung will pair up (by being the first to hug each other in a game), but then when Hobi blows the whistle at 6:38, JK runs over to hug JM before Tae can get to him.

6:58 - Jin asks why JM said he wanted Tae and then hugged JK. JM explains that he didn't hug him, he just found himself in JK's hug as JK cackles in the background.

7:24 - When Jin blows his whistle at the class, JK and JM mirror each other in putting a finger in one of their ears.

7:35 - Teammates JK and JM are immediately on the same page about wanting their team name to be Kim Seokjin. When they have to change it, JM quickly picks up JK's suggestion that they call their team Bang Sihyuk. These don't sound like particularly unique moments, but when you watch it, it just really strikes you how in sync the two of them are in terms of physicality, ideas, and sense of humor.

9:52 - After Jin comments that he heard JM did very well in school, JK adds that JM was the top student. When someone else asks if JM was the best or second-best, JK forcefully reiterates that he was the best student.

12:45 - When they get a question right, JK and JM clasp hands and bump their shoulders together.

13:10 - JM and JK both goof around, speaking in satoori and challenging JHope to a fight of sorts.

13:27 - When Jin repeats that they got the question right, JK and JM do exactly the same as 12:45, but seated this time.

14:22, 14:36, 15:13 - In all three of these moments, JM nearly falls over laughing at something JK did that no one else found anywhere near as funny.

23:36 - When JK says he's good at this game, JM laughs and pokes JK in the chest with a marker.

BEHIND 2:30 - JM takes a selfie of him and JK with his personal phone while they're supposed to be paying attention to Jin.

6:35 - JK cheers on JM and calls him Jimin-ssi when JM announces he's doing well on this spot-the-difference round. When Jimin modifies the brag to say he only found four, JK says "that's still quite impressive."

Ep 113 “Dalbang School Part 2” (Ep: 5 / KM: 4)

4:50 - We all know how JK is when he gets into his "focus" zone, especially in a competitive environment. But here, when JM rather rudely interrupts JK's melodica practice, JK just starts playing around with him and giggles.

7:41 - As RM & JH take their turn, jikook are whispering to each other in the back row.

11:42 - After quickly agreeing on a lunch option, jikook do a high five / handshake thing and then JM says "we think alike" and "we get along pretty well." JK responds "that's exactly it" and the on-screen captions tells us they are a "good match."

22:20 - This is where JK and JM start switching back and forth carrying each other on their backs to get under a limbo stick.

They go again at 23:35, 26:11, and 28:13.

And again at 30:22 and 32:16 and 34:30 because, even though they lost, they want to try to do it again to show that they can as a "matter of pride."

25:00 - JK points something out to JM and then pats his butt.

33:33 - JM announces they lost, and then jikook do another handshake / high five thing.

34:33 - JM does an... interesting pose for the camera where he puts his hand on a bent-over JK's back and smirks.

34:56 - Yet another handshake and JM pats JK on the back when they finally pass the limbo challenge.

BEHIND 5:55 - While examining the limbo setup, JM comments that JK is good at this. JK comes over to give a demonstration and JM watches him be silly with it and says "he's a strange kid" fondly.

BEHIND 5:35 - JK keeps throwing water bottles when they're supposed to be taking a group photo. Jimin pulls him back next to him and puts an arm around his neck. JK puts an arm around Jimin's shoulders in return.

7:51 - After it's explained that JK is staying late to watch Jin do his penalty, a packed-up Jimin comes over and stands next to JK, waiting until they're done to leave.

Ep 118 “Photo Story Part 1” (Ep: 3 / KM: 3)

The ones where BTS play a Samsung-sponsored game involving getting specific pictures while a spy tries to ruin the fun

4:22 - JM appears to direct JK to go punish Tae and pats JK's back when he starts to obey. Something happens that we don't see when the angle changes - next thing we see, JM seems to be pushing JK? JM then giggles at JK pretending to beat up Tae. (After this, JK spins around like a ballerina. Not jikook-related, just adorable.)

29:51 - JK calls Jimin twice without adding "hyung."

32:28 - JM pulls JK along by the wrist. Meanwhile, J-Hope once again mixes up their names.

32:44 - Though there is now a group walking slowly together and he doesn't need to pull him along anymore, Jimin takes JK's hand again.

37:02 - There are a bunch of seats open in the room, but Jimin walks over to sit right next to JK.

BEHIND 5:40 - When JM tries to steal a post-it from JK, JK scolds him in satoori banmal. JM calls him out for not calling him with hyung and JK quickly apologizes (in a way some k-army jikookers have said is like how a married person would respond to their nagging spouse!).

6:09 - JK and JM meet up and JK tells JM he's exhausted. There's a kind of weird moment that I fully admit I may be reading too much into where JK seems to be walking right towards JM, then abruptly stops and turns, looking at the camera, before walking with Jimin in a different direction than he had been heading. Then, JM says he thinks their matching shirts are hilarious and that it's funny they're wearing them for the show.

Ep 119 “Photo Story Part 2” (Ep: 4 / KM: 3)

8:21 - "You are me, I am you" moment: Jimin does a ballet spin the same way JK did in part one.

11:18 - JK is the only one to vote for JM to be able to keep a picture in other than Jin (who has nefarious reasons for doing so).

29:40 - JM goes over to help JK see how many of his photos the spy ruined and almost falls over laughing when it becomes clear it's nearly all of them.

34:21 - JM puts his hand on JK's shaking leg to help calm him (see above photo), but JK is so irritated that it doesn't work like it usually does. Poor bunny!

35:17 - JM pulls at JK's shirt and hand, then folds over his back while trying to get him to confess that he actually lost.

38:24 - JM has a comforting hand on JK's neck when he's acting upset about losing.

38:32 - When it seems like JK is struggling to come up with an ending statement, JM helps prompt him.

24:40 - Jimin breaks character and laughs when asking JK if he's the culprit.

29:40 - Caption: "The air is undeniably tense between Gamer Jeon and Chief Park." Not explicitly jikook, I just find it funny that the writers seem to be playing with some real life relationships, making sope best friends and jikook have tension that leads to banter...

5:34 - When Jimin is playing with the yo-yo, JK expresses concern that he's going to hurt his fingers (caption: Kook is just worrying for his hyung). Then, JK asks poutily and in banmal if he can play with the yo-yo multiple times and Jimins says no. Hey! I’m so glad you asked. Let me (try to) lay it out for you. I suppose these are spoilers if you haven’t seen the show? Anyway, Lucy and Kate are ex… something now. At the start of the season, in the pilot, they kiss at Kate’s apartment but state that they can’t “do this again” implying that they’ve hooked up at least once - though I’d bet it’s more than once. As the season has gone on, we’ve seen them dance around each other and then kiss! There was no real commitment to a relationship, and Kate wanted it to be between them. It caused a little friction, but Lucy agreed to it and they seemed to be enjoying each other’s company for a bit. They even went on a out-of-their-apartments-date in 110! And Kate wanted to go on another! But then (double spoiler, I guess?) Lucy got a big assignment at work and went to Kate’s to excitedly tell her about it, only to find out that Kate’s girlfriend from DC was there. This surprised everyone - including Kate who didn’t realize they were still dating. Episode 111 is phenomenal and angsty but it ends with Lucy telling Kate that whatever they had is over. And now (ep 112 until now) we’re on the train to pining-and-angst town, baby - neither of them are clearly over each other as shown by all the longing looks and that face each of them make when the other isn’t watching. And as the season winds down, they get better and better. I’m buckling up for the long game and I can’t wait.

Definitely worth the watch if you love a main wlw couple AND ALSO top-notch found family tropes, competent women, a diverse cast, heartbreak, and fantastically structured television.

-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...

-danny really isn't pulling punches when it comes to fighting the ghost-cop possessed people huh. like he SLAMMED KWAN INTO THE CONCRETE SO HARD. HE THREW PAULINA INTO A BILLBOARD. will that...I mean it WOULD carry over to their bodies non-possessed, right? like if the ghost piloting their bodies gets hurt?? itd be so upsetting to be possessed, lose time, then wake up covered in bruises (and possibly, broken bones??) real horror movie stuff im sure wont be addressed in any way

-tuckers parents seem nice! I like them :)

-fright knight's murder castle reminds me of the booby trapped murder castle in zexal!! another supposedly 'for kids' show with murder/trap castles! we love that. if you are a dp fan reading this, give yugioh zexal a try. its also got 13-14 year old protags and involves (alien) ghosts. the cardgame is just a vessel for the plot, which is really good. (I just want more people to watch my fav yugioh, man)

HE REALLY NEEDS A LESSON IN MANAGING COLLATERAL DAMAGE!!! So does valerie!! They're both pretty focused on each other. I mean it's good of Danny to say he's trying to make sure PEOPLE don't get hurt, but... (I mean I guess it's not something 14 year olds WOULD worry about, but as an adult im like, who's going to fix that? how much money will that take??)

-TUCKER MAKING BANK. and sam and tucker being super emotionally attached to their flour baby and being pretty good parents. that's cute...also him just straight kissing her and being like. WAIT. O_O JDSKAFHD. his mom baking them into cookies was the funniest possible result. tbh I dont feel like this is on tucker, if anything the other kid's shouldve been more responsible! He was just taking an opportunity to get that $$ which I respect

-Danny being more understanding of Valerie's situation in the end (helping her at her job, too, and trying to keep that a secret for her!!!) And seeing them work together this ep, and also her letting phantom get her out of the ghost zone...was very sweet. LOVE that. more valerie eps pls

-me when I realize vlad's big stupid house exploded because of his own carelessness with changing the ghost portal ectofiltrator or whatever: *pointing and laughing*

YOU HAVE A WEAPONS VAULT??? and jack didnt put a handle on the inside. of fucking course he didnt! why would you leave that to your son!! or expect him to clean YOUR LAB when its where you work with probably dangerous chemicals and weapons and hes 14!! give him normal chores, like, I dunno, vacuuming, laundry, dishes...CMON. I hate it here. But I'm glad Jack is more chill about danny while he's a ghost, and willing to work with him for this ep. AND. I DID ENJOY JACK PUNCHING VLAD IN THE FACE. AND GENERALLY JUST OWNING HIM. the ghost punchy fists are actually amazing. like yeah, just punch a ghost in the face. that rules.

-ep 20 opens with the coolest fucking ghost lady design. her tattoos can come off and fight. MA'AM. I like ur nose ring and your cape maam hello 👉👈😳

-sam's grandma is hilarious and the most valid member of her family and I love her. thats my grandma now. and tucker covering for sam by dressing as her. thats true friendship <3 also skipping school to go to a goth circus. just bestie things! sam's parents are haters but for all the wrong reasons.

-'my family has controlled ghosts with this for generations!' WAIT. WAIT FREAKSHOW /ISNT/ A GHOST? I didn't expect that...he's just a fucked up guy controlling ghosts? anyway watching danny shoot at police cars and rob banks while mind controlled. its like, the most stereotypical 'bad' things lmao. (tbh an evil ghost circus troupe is a sick concept)

(I'm going to assume evil circus reaper danny has a lot of fan content. people love an edgy au, except this one is canon (even tho its via mind control...having the protag go evil otherwise might be hard, I guess?) but au where he stays with the troupe...that has to exist, right?)
