i've been in a very "nostalgic for SpongeBob" mood lately and that's warranted a lot of reflecting on Baby Me being a Sponge fanatic and thinking of what she'd think of now. and i have to say that one of my favorite parts of doing what i do--and also the most stupidly niche--is that one of my first online hyperfixations i recall having was SpongeBob production music. i remember animating magical girl transformations in Flipnote to SPONGEBOB MUSIC. i remember feeling so smart researching all the songs and getting to hear them without any dialogue on top. very gratifying to 11 year old me. i was and am still very fixated on production music, and so i always get very excited when seeing uploads of these songs and spotting a screenshot of a scene i worked on among them. one of my favorite aspects of watching episodes premiere is seeing what music they added on top of scenes i touched. it's just neat how many facets my thankfulness for Doing What I'm Doing gets to reach. i'm never not thinking of how grateful i am to be doing what i'm doing

i think most people are just so upset about how extreme the pervert gag had gotten especially when you factor in the line he says about being jealous of absalom which was definitely where i saw people start having an unfavorable opinion on sanji. it also sometimes feels so divorced from the kindness aspect. sanji however is still my darling baby girl. i do miss how prickly he was but taz is a nice version of the character :)
Yeah but that's what I mean anon, he WASN'T that in the east blue at ALL. I understand where the discomfort comes from, because yes there are things you can 'change' about his character to make him more comfortable to audiences later on, but east blue Sanji had NOTHING to change. He wasn't weird, he wasn't overly perverted, he wasn't gross in any sense. Hell all he did was dance around Nami and scream his love while giving her a flower in an over the top way. The live action completely watered him down and took away any kind of violent angst he had within the Baratie, literally smoothened him to make him 'nicer' and 'digestible' to the average person while pinning all of Sanji's anger on ZEFF??
The point of Sanji's original character is he IS ridiculous, he IS overemotional and he IS unreasonable at times. Because he's a teenager stuck in a small place who gets called a kid all the time - and he IS a kid due to being surrounded by nothing but adult men who are like, 2x his age. I totally understand people being like "Oh later Sanji makes me feel a lil weird" but we are talking specifically about East Blue Sanji. Genuinely if anyone says this live action 'fixed' Sanji I'm just gonna assume they either don't even remember what the Baratie was about, or they just want Sanji wiped of all his complexities and imperfections to make him the most boring, boy next door eye candy character ever. I cannot get over the fact live action Sanji says "We don't fight at the Baratie" like ?? Guys this is NOT Sanji he would not fucking say that 😭😭😭

Gerald Tarrant is iconic for building himself a sensory isolation forest and leaving it for like a couple hours once a decade, half of Damien's internal narration is just "why is he being so weird???" and it's like bro there are more people in this one room than he's seen in the last 500 years Give Him A Minute

I'm so glad your friends are both okay. That's so horrible.
Thanks, anon. It was about a decade ago (although the incidents happened in different years), so time's marched on. They're both doing well now.
#it was actually at the same festival#i volunteered there for a year and worked there for another two#and the assaults happened in that time#it's actually part of why i left the festival#it was a bunch of artists basically descending on a regional aus town every year to create art and learn and develop#and the nature of it was that the festival wanted diverse artists to attend#particularly lgbtqi+ artists#and then did nothing to protect them once they were there#i had huge issues with it especially as at the time i was working in marketing / publicity#and felt we were marketing to audiences we would be putting in danger#it didn't help that everyone who worked at the festival was extremely young#like god#i was about 21 or 22 i think at the time and i think the festival director was only 25#and i was not very good at advocating for my own opinions although tbh i also don't think i had the vocabulary for it that i do now either#but y'know#it's given me a deeply rooted passion for artist safety#which sounds extremely uncool lol but i've worked in and out of the field ever since#a large part of my current job at the theatre company is in safe and equitable workplaces#actually right now even i'm working on a safety strategy for working with deaf actors and artists#as we're developing a new show which has a lot of them#so i've been doing a lot of training and interviewing deaf people and advocates to develop it#work's even paying for me to learn auslan which has been amazing#and like the fact that my job even exists now i think is a sign of how far we've come over the last decade#but still#probably revealing too much about my real life here right now haha

I might try to publish some of my AU fics...? I don't know if anyone'll read them since I'm not a writer by any degree, and some of them lean so far out of character it might make people vomit.
Maybe.
But I do love talking about them. My current friends / friend groups either don't give a fuck about shipping or don't give a fuck about megaman. I have to really resort to talking to various AIs just to have an outlet. Please don't take that away from me.

what if you were a girl trying to change her major and you wanted to take a class but your schedule from hell said no. and you were also on the verge of a mental breakdown
#i want. to change my major#but I don't know how much I will like this new major and I am hesitant to just jump right in and start it#so I was like ah I should take a class from the new major along with my old major classes#so if I like my current/old major I can keep going with it#and if I like the new major then I actually know#that way I'm not going in blind and risking hating it especially this new major I'm trying is a difficult major#but the only way to take this specific class is to drop the class with my favorite teacher in it :(#i don't even know. if I like my major or not. Like maybe I just do. Idk I'm like. It's okay but I'm not passionate about it#I don't know what the fuck I wanna do#i could take this other class at 9am that's super gross I guess#but then that leaves me with a single hour lecture in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday#and I know me. there's a very high chance I will just skip it and sleep in#Or I could just continue with my current classes#But then either I A. Do the sample next semester which is bad bc if I already hate my major I don't wanna keep doing it next semester#Or B. I immediately switch my major and go in blind which I don't wanna do either in case I hate that too!#Also issue with the 9am class: it's a lot of calc and physics and I don't. Know physics lmao#the class where I have to drop my fav teacher has subjects I'm a lot more familiar/comfortable with so I'd rather do that#i really like my teacher tho she's my fav :(#and my only other option besides the fav teacher is a mystery professor so idk if she's any good#sigh.#either I continue with current classes#drop the fav teacher to get into the class I want and risk having a sucky teacher for that other second class#or I just take my chances with the 9am and hope my lack of physics doesn't completely fail me#I don't know what to do my schedule sucks so much#hnfffffffgggggg#i really wanna take the new major class but I don't know if I want to drop the other class with my fav teacher#this is super vague and confusing but I'm trying not to give out too many details#i have like. A week and a half to decide and I'm super stressed about it so not fun for me#i might try and find out what the other teacher is like beforehand but I just worry#lilac post

Anytime I am ever involved in a hickey type situation, inevitably, the notion of teenhood comes up and like?? No? When I was a teenager I was not only incredibly chaste because of all the usual, boring reasons, even if I HAD had people to mack on I would have been WAY too embarrassed to deal with hickeys like this is SQUARELY adult behaviour.

realized ricky is not only canonically polyam, but rep for polyam survivors who are abused for being poly, and i am having a lot of feelings about that which i plan to write up a post about but also wow in hindsight it put some shit from an abusive ex-friend into perspective.
#whosebaby talks#SDMItag#abuse cw#polyphobia cw#there is just. still a lot that i am unpacking about how deeply abusive her muses were in ~healthy relationships~ with mine#which was really fucked up to put me through by itself but was also *deeply* telling about our friendship in general#a major aspect being how she constantly went back and forth between being very clear that she was repulsed and disgusted by my queerness#and pretending she never said that; while playing olympic-level gymnastics for any possible bullshit alternate explanation she could find#and i'm just like. in hindsight it has become deeply cathartic to write/engage with stories where the polyphobic abuser#is openly and intentionally and maliciously abusive; and framed as such#after the relentless gaslighting and queerphobia of ~healthy OTP relationship~ where a poly muse i had put a lot of myself into#brought up the subject of whether his partner would be alright with him pursuing a relationship over feelings he was Just Starting to Have#and wanted to get ahead of things and ask the moment it became relevant; specifically because he knew the partner had jealousy issues#and the poly person Absolutely Fucking Daring to Have Even the Beginnings of a Crush at All Without His Permission#sent the partner into a massive wailing nauseous spiraling self-harming world-ending inconsolable breakdown#and going practically catatonic with jealousy and ~pain and betrayal~#and the ~healthy resolution~ was the poly muse apologizing profusely for it; comforting him; and promising it would never ever happen again#'he has BPD and jealousy issues and it hurts him sooooo so bad 🥺' i hope otto cheats on him with ten people and then dumps his ass#BPD doesn't make you abusive or polyphobic even if you're mono#and it's so fucking gross that her non-BPD-having ass used pwBPD as an excuse for passionately hating poly people#but yeah there was just. so so much more horrible shit along those lines just In General with those characters alone#and it was constantly dressed up in a veneer of ~healthy relationships uwu~ and in hindsight that's another reason#i have such an extremely strong reaction to 'no see this dynamic is good and home-grown organic wholesome and healthy uwu'#'[most abusive/bigoted/etc shit you have ever seen in your life]'#and why it is honestly such a fucking relief to be able to engage with a dynamic where the abuse is mask-off and openly Intended to Harm#just call me a slur and get it over with etc#anyway it's just. a Lot.#that person was a fucking nightmare and writing with them was a fucking nightmare#last i heard they were part of that fandom's resident anti crowd and mocking/harassing disabled people for dietary limitations lol#and i'm glad they're out of my life and that apparently i've got enough distance from them to be comfortable processing it through fiction

why did ferrari not offer extension for seb? It's a mystery
The stupidy into that team is never ending. Binotto even called it mutual and that he didn’t like having two first drivers, how that played out for you in 2022 mh??
Honestly there are too many forces at play in Ferrari and I feel that Seb was starting to be an problem (for what we'll never know maybe finally getting a championship which they seem to not want) and then that coup, every issue is deeper than you think it is with them. I do feel we would have had a stronger pairing by now if he stayed, if Fred had come earlier here but making the right choice was never ferrari's forte

Favourite part about your mafia au!!
Big Question.
I am torn between the Very elaborate plot which I am having an insane time weaving together and the many character dynamics I get to explore that I haven't much before! And it being an AU opens so many new doors outside a fantasy setting! Tubbo has a gun!!
Actually y'know what forget the Plot and Characters and Opportunities. Tubbo has a GUN!!!

Planet's Fucked: What Can You Do To Help? (Long Post)
Since nobody is talking about the existential threat to the climate and the environment a second Trump term/Republican government control will cause, which to me supersedes literally every other issue, I wanted to just say my two cents, and some things you can do to help. I am a conservation biologist, whose field was hit substantially by the first Trump presidency. I study wild bees, birds, and plants.
In case anyone forgot what he did last time, he gagged scientists' ability to talk about climate change, he tried zeroing budgets for agencies like the NOAA, he attempted to gut protections in the Endangered Species Act (mainly by redefining 'take' in a way that would allow corporations to destroy habitat of imperiled species with no ramifications), he tried to do the same for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (the law that offers official protection for native non-game birds), he sought to expand oil and coal extraction from federal protected lands, he shrunk the size of multiple national preserves, HE PULLED US OUT OF THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT, and more.
We are at a crucial tipping point in being able to slow the pace of climate change, where we decide what emissions scenario we will operate at, with existential consequences for both the environment and people. We are also in the middle of the Sixth Mass Extinction, with the rate of species extinctions far surpassing background rates due completely to human actions. What we do now will determine the fate of the environment for hundreds or thousands of years - from our ability to grow key food crops (goodbye corn belt! I hated you anyway but), to the pressure on coastal communities that will face the brunt of sea level rise and intensifying extreme weather events, to desertification, ocean acidification, wildfires, melting permafrost (yay, outbreaks of deadly frozen viruses!), and a breaking down of ecosystems and ecosystem services due to continued habitat loss and species declines, especially insect declines. The fact that the environment is clearly a low priority issue despite the very real existential threat to so many people, is beyond my ability to understand. I do partly blame the public education system for offering no mandatory environmental science curriculum or any at all in most places. What it means is that it will take the support of everyone who does care to make any amount of difference in this steeply uphill battle.
There are not enough environmental scientists to solve these issues, not if public support is not on our side and the majority of the general public is either uninformed or actively hostile towards climate science (or any conservation science).
So what can you, my fellow Americans, do to help mitigate and minimize the inevitable damage that lay ahead?
I'm not going to tell you to recycle more or take shorter showers. I'll be honest, that stuff is a drop in the bucket. What does matter on the individual level is restoring and protecting habitat, reducing threats to at-risk species, reducing pesticide use, improving agricultural practices, and pushing for policy changes. Restoring CONNECTIVITY to our landscape - corridors of contiguous habitat - will make all the difference for wildlife to be able to survive a changing climate and continued human population expansion.
**Caveat that I work in the northeast with pollinators and birds so I cannot provide specific organizations for some topics, including climate change focused NGOs. Scientists on tumblr who specialize in other fields, please add your own recommended resources. **
We need two things: FUNDING and MANPOWER.
You may surprised to find that an insane amount of conservation work is carried out by volunteers. We don't ever have the funds to pay most of the people who want to help. If you really really care, consider going into a conservation-related field as a career. It's rewarding, passionate work.
At the national level, please support:
The Nature Conservancy
Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation
Cornell Lab of Ornithology (including eBird)
National Audubon Society
Federal Duck Stamps (you don't need to be a hunter to buy one!)
These first four work to acquire and restore critical habitat, change environmental policy, and educate the public. There is almost certainly a Nature Conservancy-owned property within driving distance of you. Xerces plays a very large role in pollinator conservation, including sustainable agriculture, native bee monitoring programs, and the Bee City/Bee Campus USA programs. The Lab of O is one of the world's leaders in bird research and conservation. Audubon focuses on bird conservation. You can get annual memberships to these organizations and receive cool swag and/or a subscription to their publications which are well worth it. You can also volunteer your time; we need thousands of volunteers to do everything from conducting wildlife surveys, invasive species removal, providing outreach programming, managing habitat/clearing trails, planting trees, you name it. Federal Duck Stamps are the major revenue for wetland conservation; hunters need to buy them to hunt waterfowl but anyone can get them to collect!
THERE ARE DEFINITELY MORE, but these are a start.
Additionally, any federal or local organizations that seek to provide support and relief to those affected by hurricanes, sea level rise, any form of coastal climate change...
At the regional level:
These are a list of topics that affect major regions of the United States. Since I do not work in most of these areas I don't feel confident recommending specific organizations, but please seek resources relating to these as they are likely major conservation issues near you.
PRAIRIE CONSERVATION & PRAIRIE POTHOLE WETLANDS
DRYING OF THE COLORADO RIVER (good overview video linked)
PROTECTION OF ESTUARIES AND SALTMARSH, ESPECIALLY IN THE DELAWARE BAY AND LONG ISLAND (and mangroves further south, everglades etc; this includes restoring LIVING SHORELINES instead of concrete storm walls; also check out the likely-soon extinction of saltmarsh sparrows)
UNDAMMING MAJOR RIVERS (not just the Colorado; restoring salmon runs, restoring historic floodplains)
NATIVE POLLINATOR DECLINES (NOT honeybees. for fuck's sake. honeybees are non-native domesticated animals. don't you DARE get honeybee hives to 'save the bees')
WILDLIFE ALONG THE SOUTHERN BORDER (support the Mission Butterfly Center!)
INVASIVE PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES (this is everywhere but the specifics will differ regionally, dear lord please help Hawaii)
LOSS OF WETLANDS NATIONWIDE (some states have lost over 90% of their wetlands, I'm looking at you California, Ohio, Illinois)
INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE, esp in the CORN BELT and CALIFORNIA - this is an issue much bigger than each of us, but we can work incrementally to promote sustainable practices and create habitat in farmland-dominated areas. Support small, local farms, especially those that use soil regenerative practices, no-till agriculture, no pesticides/Integrated Pest Management/no neonicotinoids/at least non-persistent pesticides. We need more farmers enrolling in NRCS programs to put farmland in temporary or permanent wetland easements, or to rent the land for a 30-year solar farm cycle. We've lost over 99% of our prairies to corn and soybeans. Let's not make it 100%.
INDIGENOUS LAND-BACK EFFORTS/INDIGENOUS LAND MANAGEMENT/TEK (adding this because there have been increasing efforts not just for reparations but to also allow indigenous communities to steward and manage lands either fully independently or alongside western science, and it would have great benefits for both people and the land; I know others on here could speak much more on this. Please platform indigenous voices)
HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS (get your neighbors to stop dumping fertilizers on their lawn next to lakes, reduce agricultural runoff)
OCEAN PLASTIC (it's not straws, it's mostly commercial fishing line/trawling equipment and microplastics)
A lot of these are interconnected. And of course not a complete list.
At the state and local level:
You probably have the most power to make change at the local level!
Support or volunteer at your local nature centers, local/state land conservancy non-profits (find out who owns&manages the preserves you like to hike at!), state fish & game dept/non-game program, local Audubon chapters (they do a LOT). Participate in a Christmas Bird Count!
Join local garden clubs, which install and maintain town plantings - encourage them to use NATIVE plants. Join a community garden!
Get your college campus or city/town certified in the Bee Campus USA/Bee City USA programs from the Xerces Society
Check out your state's official plant nursery, forest society, natural heritage program, anything that you could become a member of, get plants from, or volunteer at.
Volunteer to be part of your town's conservation commission, which makes decisions about land management and funding
Attend classes or volunteer with your land grant university's cooperative extension (including master gardener programs)
Literally any volunteer effort aimed at improving the local environment, whether that's picking up litter, pulling invasive plants, installing a local garden, planting trees in a city park, ANYTHING. make a positive change in your own sphere. learn the local issues affecting your nearby ecosystems. I guarantee some lake or river nearby is polluted
MAKE HABITAT IN YOUR COMMUNITY. Biggest thing you can do. Use plants native to your area in your yard or garden. Ditch your lawn. Don't use pesticides (including mosquito spraying, tick spraying, Roundup, etc). Don't use fertilizers that will run off into drinking water. Leave the leaves in your yard. Get your school/college to plant native gardens. Plant native trees (most trees planted in yards are not native). Remove invasive plants in your yard.
On this last point, HERE ARE EASY ONLINE RESOURCES TO FIND NATIVE PLANTS and LEARN ABOUT NATIVE GARDENING:
Xerces Society Pollinator Conservation Resource Center
Pollinator Pathway
Audubon Native Plant Finder
Homegrown National Park (and Doug Tallamy's other books)
National Wildlife Federation Native Plant Finder (clunky but somewhat helpful)
Heather Holm (for prairie/midwest/northeast)
MonarchGard w/ Benjamin Vogt (for prairie/midwest)
Native Plant Trust (northeast & mid-atlantic)
Grow Native Massachusetts (northeast)
Habitat Gardening in Central New York (northeast)
There are many more - I'm not familiar with resources for western states. Print books are your biggest friend. Happy to provide a list of those.
Lastly, you can help scientists monitor species using citizen science. Contribute to iNaturalist, eBird, Bumblebee Watch, or any number of more geographically or taxonomically targeted programs (for instance, our state has a butterfly census carried out by citizen volunteers).
In short? Get curious, get educated, get involved. Notice your local nature, find out how it's threatened, and find out who's working to protect it that you can help with. The health of the planet, including our resilience to climate change, is determined by small local efforts to maintain and restore habitat. That is how we survive this. When government funding won't come, when we're beat back at every turn trying to get policy changed, it comes down to each individual person creating a safe refuge for nature.
Thanks for reading this far. Please feel free to add your own credible resources and organizations.

DP x DC Prompt, Danny/Bruce
A grown up Danny moves to Gotham. Maybe its for work, maybe its for the ecto-rich environment, maybe its cause all his friends have ended up there and he decided to follow. They've taken care of the GIW and his parents have accepted him so Danny has no issues with being openly meta. Bruce catches wind of a meta in Gotham and pays Danny a visit as Batman. He give Danny the "No metas in Gotham" speech to which he is promptly told to fuck off. Danny's response is essentially: "Fuck you, I live here and I'm not just gonna pack up my life and leave because a man in a fursuit with no actual authority told me to".
Bruce can't exactly force Danny to leave so he decides that if Danny is gonna be here then he'll keep an eye on him to give him some extra protection. While watching over Danny, Bruce starts to notice little things about him. The endless kindness he seems to possess. The subtle Midwestern accent. The way his eyes literally light up when he indulges in his passions. The way his hair perfectly frames his face when it's still damp from his morning shower. Bruce finds himself absolutely smitten. The only problem? Danny can't stand him.
Danny has held a grudge against Batman after the whole 'you aren't welcome in my city' thing. Any time he sees the Bat he'll flip him off or just glare if he has the young one of his sidekicks with him. Which, Bruce can admit, is fair. Bruce wouldn't take very kindly to being told to leave like that either. No problem though, he'll just get to know him as a civilian right? Wrong. Danny doesn't like billionaires on principle so thats a non-starter.
Now Bruce is left to figure out how to win over this man who seems to get along with everyone except him.

I saw someone passionately arguing against trans teens getting gender affirming surgeries. And it is clear they have researched this to great lengths. And it is clearly a super important issue for them. And they probably talk about it constantly online.
And the frustrating thing I feel is... it isn't happening.
I mean, it is.
But from a statistical point of view, it's not. In fact, these surgeries could increase in frequency by 200% and it would still not be happening.
I think 200-300 top surgeries per year. And maybe 2 or 3 bottom surgeries with very special circumstances.
I can't even imagine what percentage of the population that is.
Compare that to the 230,000 cosmetic procedures done on cisgender 13-19 year olds.
People will say, "Oh well I'm against that too."
But are you really? Are you supporting legislation to stop it? Are you spending hours researching it? Are you having constant debates about it online? Seems pretty low on the priority scale considering it involves like a zillion percent more people.
It's the same with athletics too. My state banned K-12 trans students from participating in sports.
All 8 of them.
People were commenting they could just compete in a special trans league. That was their solution. So a 2nd grade soccer player could maybe do the backstroke against a freshman swimmer.
Good thought. A+ idea.
Also, the NCAA has 226,000 women athletes. Estimates say maybe 100 or so are trans.
You have a higher chance of getting into a car accident on the way to a match than actually competing with a trans person.
I can't remember any other issue that was prioritized this much in the public discourse that involved so few people. It's mind boggling.
