The atmosphere is festive at Arthur's family inn as you climb the stairs to fetch the birthday boy.

No, not a boy. A man. Yours.

"Knock knock," you announce as you push open his bedroom door.

"Are you up?"

Your eyes roam your lover's tidy room without finding him. Your fingers tighten around the spring crown you're holding.

The faint creak of the floorboards from behind the door is your only warning before Arthur’s warm hands slip around your waist, pulling you gently back into his chest.

"You’re early," he murmurs, his voice low and teasing against your ear.

You tilt your head smiling and catch his reflection in the small mirror across the room. His usual shy smile is more pronounced today, a bit of color rising in his freckles cheeks as he presses a soft kiss to your temple.

"You're late and I couldn’t wait to see the birthday man," you reply, turning in his arms. You hold up the delicate spring crown you’ve woven, small wildflowers interlaced with soft vines. "I made something for you."

His gaze softens, eyes flickering from the crown to your face. "For me? It's beautiful, $name."

"Like you," you say, and it’s Arthur’s turn to blush, though he doesn’t let go. His hand cups the back of your neck as he pulls you closer, pressing his forehead against yours.

"You spoil me," he whispers, his voice filled with affection as he rubs his nose against yours.

"Only because you deserve it."

He laughs softly, the sound a gentle melody echoing in your heart, and you place the crown on his head, adjusting it slightly. "There," you say, admiring the way the flowers compliment his features. "Perfect."

He's perfect.

Arthur gives you a sheepish smile, his fingers grazing yours as he murmurs, "As long as you're with me, I feel that way every day."

my last buddy daddies post i talked about how even though kazuki and rei weren’t the most shippable, it seemed like the show might eventually go there. after episode seven, i’m almost certain that it will.

episode seven gives us this scene:

some things really stuck out to me here. many people have noted already that this happens after karin tells kazuki (and kazuki accepts) that he has a right to move on from his wife and be happy in his new life. this sets rei up as a parallel to kazuki’s wife—someone he can be happy with in the present. then, we have the above shots. kazuki is watching rei and miri sleep here. he could just as easily be smiling at miri, not rei. however, the shot very deliberately pans away from miri and focuses on rei before showing us kazuki’s face softening into that smile, making it clear that it’s for rei too. hence. kazurei, maybe.

Despite his irritation, a small smile broke across Derek's face. He would always have a soft spot for his baby sister. "While the rest of the incomparables are busy choosing their gowns for the next season, Cora prefers to spend her time at Manton's shooting gallery on Davis. She has it in her head that she wants to join the Royal Navy in its efforts against Napoleon." Derek shook his head. "She is so young, however. Too much so." "Even the smallest wolf has claws and fangs." "And she is, unfortunately, of a single mind. Which is why she doesn't mind throwing me to the wolves if it serves her purpose. I have no doubt Cora would relish having me steal our parents' attention and disapproval should I return." "Surely there are some things from home you miss." Jordan's eyes widened, and he grinned smugly. "What was that look? I'm right, aren't I?" "It's…" Derek turned away from Jordan's expectant gaze. He wasn't sure why he had thought of Stiles just then. He hadn't seen the boy since Laura's wedding. Constable Stilinski's son must have been sixteen—perhaps seventeen, at the most—and the movement of his limbs could not seem to catch up with his sudden growth spurt. "I was thinking about someone who lived near my aunt. He was exceptionally bright, if a bit odd. He was closer to Cora's age, although he seemed to enjoy my company." A wave of guilt flooded Derek as he remembered receiving Stiles' letter. He had not been in a good place at the time, and after reading the excited, hopeful words of a mere child, had thrown it away without responding. "I haven't seen him in years. It is for the best; any bit of hero worship he still may have held for me would surely have been destroyed by this point." "You say your family disapproves of your choices. Yet they all wish you home. I think the only person who can't forgive you for your mistakes is yourself." Derek gripped the armrest of his chair. Jordan was one of the few people in his life who knew the story. Unfortunately, his own family did as well. "There are some mistakes one can't return from."
