I'm happily delusional and say Arthur didn't die and he lives on a farm with Merlin.

i joke about it but i really do feel heartbroken about merlin today. he's been waiting for 1500 years for the other half of his soul who was taken from him. he's practically a god and he still couldn't save the mortal he loved no matter how he tried.

Happy Merlin anniversary to all who celebrate!
I started making this cushion cover 2 years ago, after a lot of not working on it, I finally finished it this afternoon.
'upastige draca' is the incantation Merlin uses to make a dragon for his Pendragon after revealing he's magic. I had briefly considered thank you or hold me but @mid-n0vember's suggestion was better.

I tried to write this fic last year (I think) but my phone crashed and I lost the majority of it, so never felt like working with it more, but in honor of The Day, here's some of it:
Merlin looks down at Arthur, so pale compared to the golden shine he's supposed to have.
Even his hair looks duller.
Laid flat against the sticks, the scene looks altogether too wrong. This is not even close to what Arthur deserves.
Merlin can't take the sight of it any longer, so he holds out his trembling hand, preparing to say the words to send the boat out.
But what comes out instead is a spell last used as a gift for someone else he loved.
Flower after flower blooms around Arthur, all sorts of flowers, every kind Merlin can remember from hours spent studying Gaius' books.
Their meanings in the language of flowers comes back to him, remembrance, loss, grieving.
But also, love, care, fondness.
He can't stand the thought of Arthur going without having that with him, all the love they could never speak of until it was too late.
Merlin scrubs the tears from his eyes to make sure the sight is slightly closer to what Arthur deserved, even if he would've said all the flowers were too girly.
But there has been that time he'd asked where his flowers were.
And so here they are, lovingly embracing him as Merlin never could, until the end.
Merlin sends the boat away without another word, watching it carry his king off, keeping him safe until his time to return.
#So yeah. That.#Um I had a ton more stuff#Like going more in depth about what flowers and all#But I don't think it really needs all that#Anyway when Arthur FINALLY returns#He has a bouquet of all the flowers that mean Love and all because I Say So#Also I had that Merlin went back to Camelot and all the council and whatever was like “WHERE IS HE???” and Merlin just Can't.#So he only tells Gwen and she hugs him and tells him she's sure Arthur would have preferred that to Traditional Kingly Burials anyway#But the council was pestering about Arthur was supposed to have that#But Gwen tells them to shut up#Anyway hope y'all enjoy (:#Merry Stabmas#merlin bbc#bbc merlin#Merlin#Merthur#arthur pendragon

“People are inherently terrible” no!!! Have you ever seen a child wait for their friend while they tie their shoelaces? Have you ever known someone who would bring hurt squirrels and rabbits and mice to the nearest vet just so it doesn’t suffer? Have you seen someone grieve? Have you ever read something that hit your heart like a freight train? Have you looked at the stars and felt an unexplainable joy? Have you ever baked bread? Have you shared a meal with a friend? Have you not seen it? All the love? All the good? I know it’s hard to see sometimes, I know there’s pain everywhere. But look, there’s a child helping another up after a hard fall. Look, there’s someone giving their umbrella to a stranger. Look, there’s someone admiring the spring flowers. Look, there’s good, there’s good, there’s good. Look!!!!

Just finished my rewatch of the finale but as I was resetting the episode on iPlayer, the subtitle from the scene didn't go away (this sorry is the reply to Arthur's "I trusted you.")
And boy, does this feel like, with the black screen and all, the episode itself saying sorry for the heartbreak yet to come, and yet entirely known.
I love it, I hate it, but it's perfect.

I think what really gets me about BBC Merlin's finale, about Arthur's death, is that it's all so perfect. It's what's been foretold, it's what was meant to happen, this story doesn't have a happy ending, it was never meant to.
King Arthur can never live, he can only return. That's the thing.
But how BBC Merlin did it, man, god, it's a masterpiece through and through. To make the final episode all about Merlin and Arthur's relationship, their trust, devotion, and pure love (as it was put in the commentary ;)).... mannnn, it hits, and it hits hard.
The fact the magic reveal was all about the lies for Arthur, about him relearning Merlin only to realise he is who he always thought him to be, is just so perfect.
And the episode wraps it all up, finishing off the loose ends, finishing off Gwaine :P, making Gwen the Queen of Camelot.
And if that scene doesn't make me want to kneel, bow my head, and chant long live the queen sdfhjghsdfg. It's so sad, but it makes me soooooooo, well.
And just all the merthur, all the scenes, they're all so perfect. Every single one of them pulls at my heart, tears at it, leaves it a mess alongside the tears in my eyes.
I love this episode, I love this finale, I love this show, and I'm so glad I get to celebrate another anniversary on this webbed site with you all <333

I don't think I'll ever recover from the way Arthur cried out those words in that scene. 🥺
