Okay, I have officially ordered the button press! I have to make sure it works properly and make some premade button designs before I can set a date to post the designs and officially start accepting people's requests and food bank donations, but here's some general points to be aware of
I can't pay for shipping because I'm on SSI and even after my $22 raise on January 1st I still live off of less than $1k a month. I ship from the west coast of the US. If you need a shipping estimate before you can commit to reserving a pin, once the press gets here and I have a pin and mailer I can weigh, you can DM me your address and I will get you a shipping estimate.
Pins will ship via USPS unless you prefer another carrier (USPS is usually cheapest).
Because of the rules around receiving money when on SSI (basically, if money goes into a bank account, they take half of it out of my next check, but not if it goes in my ABLE account), it's best if you can pay for shipping via donations to my ABLE account. This requires bank routing information and is only available to US residents. However, I also have venmo if you're outside the US or don't have access to bank routing information for whatever reason. (edit: I'm not sure venmo is available outside the US so I might have to resort to paypal or something, we'll see!)
If you want to reserve a pin slot but need to wait to donate until you get a paycheck, that's fine. As long as you donate by Dec 31st you can reserve the pin when I make my post. Due to this policy, I will be shipping pins out the first week of January.
I haven't decided how many pin slots I will be offering because I need to see how hard operating the press is on my joints before I make any commitments.
Premade pin designs will be available for cost of shipping and a donation of at least $3 to a food bank. Custom made pins will be available for cost of shipping and a donation of at least $10 to a food bank
If there's no food bank in your area, one of my followers has contacted me about a nonprofit they work for that supports artists in the San Francisco Bay Area and part of their outreach includes a food pantry. I will provide a link to their website in a reblog of the official post whenever I make it
For custom pins, I am not a skilled artist (yet) so the best custom art I can offer is doodles. However, if you want to design the pin yourself, there is a website that has templates for various art programs, including photoshop. I will reblog this post with a link to it and if that gets lost for some reason you can DM me for the link also. A note: the reviews of the button press say that it can't handle anything other than regular printer paper, so that is what I will be printing on.
If you, like me, already donate to your food bank on a monthly basis, you can count December's donation in reserving a pin.
If all goes well with this little experiment, I will be doing this again in March for my birthday! So if pin slots get reserved quickly and you miss out, know that I will be (hopefully) doing this again later.
I'm going to limit this to one pin per person but if some pins aren't reserved then I will change this policy.
I will ask that you DM me a screenshot of your receipt that shows the amount you donated. I need this both as proof of donation and also because I want to keep a tally of how much has been donated as a result of this little project and how many people we've collectively fed.
Okay, I think that's everything at the moment. Feel free to reply to this post with any questions. I am making this up as I go along so I'm sure there's things I haven't thought about yet.
