I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.

But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).

In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

This is so funny I was watching this video on the topic of reylo fanfic-turned-traditionally-published-novels (it's a good video, watch it for a frank yet non-judgemental take on the topic) and in curiosity dug out this fanlore list of fics-turned-novels and found multiple novels on it that I've read, enjoyed (one in the last couple of months!) and fully didn't catch the fanfic roots of.

Really highlights the silliness of people who proudly proclaim their unerring ability to pinpoint whether a story started out as fic or not (and then proceed to point out various books completely unrelated to fandom simply because the author has written fic before, such as the locked tomb series or red white and royal blue), or who loudly state the assumed poor quality of said books despite themselves having read non of them.

#have i read any of the reylo novels? no bc most of them are contemporary romances and i have zero interest in that #(i am curios about the vampire roommate one tho it seems fun)#but the absolute confidence with which people who haven't read them will condemn them and hate on the authors is horrific to me #anyway the novels i recognized were a loki series which is pretty goofy but a lot of fun #a sherlock wingfic that i read a couple of weeks ago and very much enjoyed (though the plot was a bit underbaked)#and a good omens fic that supposedly became one of the best novels i've read in the last few years #i say supposedly bc i'm dubious about the last one actually having started out as fic #bc when searching it i can find no confirmation that it's related to good omens outside of the fanlore article #anyway anyway. consider not loudly complaining about the quality of books or genres you haven't read. it's a bad look #nella talks books

Trying my hand at this Apollo thing

Putting my predictions for 7x07-7x10 here just so I have a record so I can look back later and see if I was right.

We're gonna get a time skip at some point, a couple of months or even more. Possibly before the next episode (Maddie has a new haircut in the trailer and Chim looks all healed up). I think they want the two in-progress relationships (Eddie and Marisol, and Buck and Tommy) to be further along for...reasons.

The character from Bobby's past is either his brother, or the character played by Malcoln-Jamal Warner (Brad, according to IMDB), or both. Brad is someone who suffered because of the apartment fire that killed Bobby's family but he does not let them know that yet because he is there for REVENGE. Bobby thinks he's just dealing with his brother. Family history is drug up.

SOMETHING goes down with the Diaz family. Best bet? Abuela's health. This causes something of a crisis in Eddie's relationship. Another possibility: Chris has a CP-related medical crisis. This causes the will to be brought up (this is supported by reports that Oliver filmed with all the Diaz family members including Helena and Ramon). This might also cause something of a crisis in Eddie's relationship.

The Helicopter Chaos Squad, all five of them, are awarded medals (we've seen BTS of this ceremony and LFJR wearing a medal and a dress uniform, plus Eddie, Hen and Chim also in dress uniform). Bobby is proud and bestows the medals on them.

We see more hints that Buck is considering moving as the loft is getting too expensive. We've already seen a few.

Brad is plotting Revenge when he figures out who Bobby is. He stalks him and sees how close he is to his fire family. He is bitter that Bobby is still a firefighter.

There's a gathering at Buck's place, maybe post-medal ceremony? Most of the fam is there. Brad torches the building and they are all trapped. Bobby is able to, this time, save his family and get closure from the previous fire. But he gets, like, smoke inhalation hence hospital gown.

Whoops, Buck has no place to live, good thing he currently has a boyfriend and look at that, he's been established to have a significant house situation (with a lift and a muay thai gym), what a coinkidink. (I know people want him to move in with Eddie but like...where. He's gonna sleep on the couch for months?) He moves in with Tommy (I'd been predicting they'd do some end-of-season gesture of Increased Commitment) they possibly say "I love you" and we are all undone by it.

Eddie and Marisol break up because whatever. He and Buck have some heartfelt best friend scenes and we are all undone by them.

The body bag we've seen is Brad, who died in the fire he set, possibly in a confrontation with Bobby, probably by falling from a height in the best Disney villain tradition.

Abuela dies. We are all...well, you know.

lads it is mostly my fault (was sick, didn't tell healthcare until it was Dire, was sentenced to bed rest for the rest of my time at camp) that I literally can't say goodbye to these 100+ people I've come to love properly before I leave. I'm not permitted to participate in any singing, dancing, communal joy, any event that's remotely fun (that's nearly word for word what they said) here at camp. and I'm leaving EARLY, am still miserably sick, and have a four hour commute back home on top of that, because there's no one available to drive. literally cried my eyes out over everything just now and am This Close to crying my eyes out againnnnn

#not to list my woes again but today was Pretty Bad #the horrors: learned that one of the girls I'm working with is the cousin of the boy whom I was so torn up over last year (lol)#received a message from the second boy I was torn up over in the spring saying: do you want to live together? (LOL)#and was hit with the two-by-four of reality today about my own Delusions and such repeatedly over the head. over and over and over LOLLLL !#HOWEVER. the joys: tea. Bible reading time. lots of prayer. laughed a lot with my coworkers.#confided in a friend whom i know can hold secrets close. listened to another friend's voice message on loop. the rain made it not too hot.#i know joy cometh in the metaphorical morning but i wanted joy to come in the form of dancing and singing and worshipping together #and being able to tell each and every person goodbye properly and with the gravity and love they each deserve #i simply!!!!! cannae take this!!!!!! and yet I WILL :'))))))))) bear it with grace #(THAT'S dramatic)#sighhhh anyhow i'm currently mentally digging a little grave for the third disappointment in love i've experienced #since breaking up with my ex boyfriend. the ground is hard my hands are tired and the earth won't budge but i WILL dig that grave #and leave that little ill-formed ill-judged ill-managed love in it #dang i'm tired in all senses of the word!#and YET. there is still a part of me that is light and buoyant and determined to make the most of things #it is so hard to be miserable when the anneish part of you never dies.........sigh #healing girl era summer '24

I know I'm like, one game away from meeting him for real and I probably shouldn't be speculating on a character I don't know yet.

But I have been thinking about *Sin* recently... in terms of like, this kid has to be in near constant pain, right? It might be a little mitigated by him being part gear, but I can't imagine growing so fast wouldn't be excruciating... Especially since he'd be more human than gear (if that train of thought applies here-)

This kid is going through body horrors not previously conceived by my mind I'm gonna. Throw up on the carpet.

#I'm pretty sure the humanoid gear characters aging like they do was to keep the timeline tight but I keep thinking about the Rammys...#don't even get me started on his family-#I dont think Dizzy would be too affected because she herself is a gear who grew up fast (I do wonder about her as well with growing pains)#but thinking about Ky is messing with me...#hes just. a human man... if Ky ever thought about having kids before Sin I can't imagine how rough seeing him grow up so fast would be...#especially since I think Sol raised Sin for most of his life #Sin is 5... and almost fully grown... if I was his dad I wouldn't be able to wrap my head around that #he should be a toddler! how long was Sin even a toddler for? weeks? days? hours??#christ-#I might delete this post later I'm not very confident in this being any worthwhile analysis #it's just something I've been thinking about-#yappin'

historically jordancon has been a venue for casting announcements - we got aviendha in 2022 and several s2 secondary characters in 2023. do you think we'll get any s3 casting announcements this year (april)? if so, who? my money is on faile, galad*, and GAWYN PLEASE GOD TELL ME WHO'S PLAYING HIM IN APRIL I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE

ahem anyway. my reasoning is that those 3 are in the same bucket as aviendha was in 2022. it's too far away from the new season's release to discuss anything substantial about the season's content or to formally announce the casting of older/better-known actors whose announcements could be saved to help marketing closer to the season's release (i'd put elaida & morgase in this bucket for s3, with the equivalent being verin for s2; and then forsaken castings i'd bet they want to keep secret as long as they can), but the castings of younger/lesser-known actors as major book characters would be a great New Season Treat to drop this early and in this book-fan venue. general audiences wouldn't care much about a few 27-year-old actors they've never heard of being cast as characters whose names don't yet mean anything to them, but book fans would be very excited about it! and that is why i'm putting on my clown shoes and hoping for gawyn casting news in april (or sooner if the leakers take pity on me).

*we do already know faile & galad casting from leaks, but i'm talking official announcements here!

this was just an observation my friend made a while ago but it got me thinkin' a little bit. Personally, I got over my aversion to sports by fencing in college. Coz it turns out I didn't hate sports. In fact, I think training and learning the rules and pushing myself to improve is super fun! That's the same stuff I like about video games. And despite being a life-long poindexter, all that physical activity felt GOOD, and it was nice to connect with folks.

What I hated about sports as a kiddo was the shame. I hated people acting like I ought to know this or that (despite being a know-nothing child). I hated being excluded and looked down upon for not being good. I despised the way the adults around me treated kids wrt sports. Also I couldn't see and had asthma and neither of these problems got treated until I was on my way out of high school (getting my first inhaler was one of the main reasons I was able to fence at all, in fact).

combat sports are great to me because they're all about that individual journey. I didn't have to worry about letting a team down who might yell at me later for my performance. It's just me and my own heart and my love for the game - THAT'S sports.

#my post #random musings #queue #so it was a pretty natural transition into fighting games #which i think are a type of combat sport #i definitely think you will have a worse time with fight games if you try to treat them like a video game instead of like a sport #because video games are meant to be won #but in the fight game the other person is actively trying to kill you #and you can't wait around for your team or your big sis or the game developer to save you #of course when you're teaching new players i think it's really important to pace things right #like most folks will dump a ton of information on the newbie all at once #often before they even press the buttons at all #which is just not very helpful #start nice n slow. take it easy. let them build confidence in controlling their character. you can play arcade mode w/ them instead of vs.#do that and i'm sure you can help a few more people find the fun

so i got some really great feedback on the final draft of my star trek strange new worlds spec and i'm hoping i can ride that high through next week when i'm starting my second-last class in the tv writing program. mostly posting this so i have documented proof that i am in fact a good screenwriter so that when i inevitably start second guessing myself i have a post to beat myself over the head with.
