Ideas I've had for the life series = toddlers in a playground au we all seem to like atm:

'golden' apples are actually just yellow apples that the daycare get sometimes, but they've all decided that their magical.

It's actually an afterschool club, and mumbo usually doesn't go, but his mum's car broke down, so he joined the games for a little while until the car was fixed and he stopped going again.

The afterschool thing also explains why there's a long-ish time between episodes. School feels like it takes forever for most kids, so it feels like forever between each game.

The Watcher/Listener thing was from a game at Grian and the others old school, but they've decided it was a secret and to not tell anyone.

Grian was off school because he was sick in the afk episode, so he left his plushy to play the game instead so he didn't miss out (currently can't decide whether it should be a parrot plushy or smthn else)

all of their separate smps (hermitcraft, empires, etc) are just different form classes their in, but not everyone goes to the afterschool club, which is why not everyone is there.

the whole 'rift ' crossover was just the kids way of explaining their two classes getting merged because of short staffing. The hermit shrinkers was just Grian stealing people's shoes because the heel made them taller.

All of their builds were either made from Lego or a toyhouse.

Joel did borrow a dictionary/thesaurus from the teacher for the bad/mad/sad/rad/dad/vlad boys joke.

Chapter 3 - To Be Phocid [Qedivar's research]

It's that time again. Ishmael is a teenage boy, fair warning.

I'm posting this on mobile so I cba linking the previous chapters but go into the siren tag to find them.

Following these events, and at Maris’s insistence, Ishmael began to keep a journal. To the delight of this author, his writing was deep, introspective, and highly detailed. From now on, I no longer had to rely on pieced together scraps and reports, but from a primary source. As such, the way these events are related will shift a little, but that is only for events concerning Ishmael.

Cherta, unfortunately, did not keep a journal at this time and remains frustratingly opaque, given Ishmael’s somewhat biased recounting of their activities. Although one must concede to the difficulties of keeping a journal underwater, before the age of sub-aquatic writing systems, and with eighteen other overambitious adolescents in relatively close proximity.

Ishmael’s journal was recorded on a computerified device and was not written by hand, though his deep dream education had serviced to educate him in handwriting skills. This was tested when he was younger, as part of an evaluation to determine the extent of his dexterity. Although the notion of a form of writing which is stored in a purely hypothetical space is very odd, especially in its permanency, it has enabled us to access his thoughts at this day and age, whereas traditional aquatic knot-writing would have long since rotted away.

He wrote in the language of the Predecessors, which I believe to be the root of all air-speaking language families. The translation of these texts is what has taxed me more than any other part of this process, aside from the grievous bodily harm, and it has taken a fantastic span of time to achieve this translation. I cannot credit my sources for fear of implicating them but you can be assured that the finest minds of the Spire collaborated on this project. This Predecessor tongue is what is spoken in all of the videos, enabling me to learn it to a conversational level, though I am hardly fluent.

Some of the journal is rendered untranslatable due to it referring to objects or concepts which were considered common knowledge at the time, requiring no additional definition. These concepts or objects will be clearly marked. However, I believe much of the text to be familiar to many people, telling of the frustration and longing common and recognisable today. That said, I believe it is also important not to take for granted the relatability.

Ishmael is not always familiar to us and existed in a time we would find nigh incomprehensible. Do not take this as reason to doubt his interiority or personhood, and do not fall into the trap of believing that you would have done better in his place, that you would have seen clearly what he obviously did not (and had good reason not to). They may have been phocids, or the predecessors of phocids, but they were new. If you were the first of your kind, could you do better?

I will now present the text in chronological order, starting from the eve of his sixteenth birthday:

Entry 1 – I hate seeing that baby siphonid. It’s still moving. It drags itself around on the leg the researchers didn’t take. Now I’m just going to remember this forever, since I wrote it down. Great. I hate that fucking noise. Why can’t they just get it to shut up?

Entry 2 - Maris told me to talk more about my feelings. What does she know? Nobody understands me anyway. I don’t think they can feel all that on their face like me. The sipho noise kept touching me. The researchers are always talking about hydrofoils and antennae but I bet they don’t know what I do - how the siphos talk to each other. I told Callum and he didn’t know what I meant, even though he has a beard.

Talked to Lee again about sex since Dan said he wouldn’t tell me himself. I don’t think Lee told the truth about a lot of that stuff. The other kids sometimes joke around a bit too much, but it is kinda funny I guess.

Update - Dan shouted at me for asking, but now I have proof Lee was wrong.

Entry 3 – The phocids click at each other underwater with their tongues.

Dan got so angry after I pulled my face hair out. He made the interns [untranslatable] search my room for the hairs and they actually found them. They didn’t even do anything with it, just put it in a bag and sealed it away. Looks like nobody wants it at all. Dan says Atom spent 120 billion nua making me, so I think one face hair is worth a few million. If I started selling them to the people outside the lab, I could buy my own stake of land on Siren just like them. I wouldn’t let Lee in. My fingers are probably worth a couple billion each.

Entry 4 – Emer (the intern) looked at me like I did something wrong when she changed my pillowcases.

Spilled bile EVERYWHERE when they were testing me. I keep thinking about somehow saving it and trying to sell it. I’m supposed to be a digestive model for Siren food, so my insides are probably worth a lot. I should ask Dan when he calms down.

Callum came around to talk to Dan again. He’s getting really tall, he’s taller than me now even when I stand up straight. He’s so skinny, like the baby siphonids (I can snap one in half with just my teeth now). When Callum was there, he didn’t want to look at me, but I get it. They didn’t even cook the siphonid this time, it was raw and with the shell on. His leg is the same width as one of them.

Emer won’t stop changing my pillowcases. Is there a way to prevent them from smelling like that?? Callum hasn’t been around so I can’t ask. Maris thinks it’s just because people my age start getting sweaty but Dan specifically told me he made me not have sweat glands anywhere but my hands. Then he said the phocids do have sweat glands. I still don’t get the point of sweating if you’re already a stupid wet rat who lives in the

Entry 5 – I’m seventeen now. Since I’m an adult, I decided to stop being reticent around the phocids. I want to know if they found a comfortable way to walk without the skin coming off their tails. So I went to talk to them today for the first time. There is a window where you can do it, they let it open ever since the climate control got busted again last month.

Cherta is really weird. I knew they couldn’t stay in the pool for very long because they might have a seizure but apparently it can happen any time, not just underwater. They have a button implant that makes their muscles relax. Anyway, their tails have thicker skin than mine so that was useless. But it is still worthwhile, I think, to meet with the phocids. They remind me why I am a human, and they are not. I kind of pity them because all they're ever going to be is a bunch of test subjects in a tiny swimming pool.

Cherta told me that one of the phocids died a year ago. I don’t remember Dan ever talking about it to me, but they said it was a big deal. Apparently they got pressure sickness when climate control broke the first time. I think Cherta broke it the second time, they sounded too proud to mention it. I don’t get it. Anyway, breaking stuff in the lab is against the rules and I think I’m going to tell Dan about that.

Entry 6 – I made the right choice. Cherta got so angry when they found out I told on them that they had another seizure. The other phocids had to pull them out of the pool. Dan thought I did the right thing but I don’t think he liked me going to tell Cherta about it afterwards, told me no one likes a snitch. Well, then, what am I supposed to do? Just let it happen? I hope Cherta chokes on that gross pool water next time.

Dan suggested I go do something other than visit the phocids and I agree, they’re clearly not worth my time. I went to see Callum instead but he wasn’t in. He has a games console, I saw him show it off to Lee the other day. I wonder if he’d let me try it.

It paints an interesting picture. As Ishmael mentions, Cherta suffered permanent neurological issues as a result of their birth mishaps. This was a point of contention within the lab, beyond Ishmael’s knowledge; the finance manager of the settlement questioned the wisdom of keeping a test subject in an aquatic locomotion study group who could not spend much time underwater. Every time, however, Dan Loris would respond that Cherta now provided essential information about phocid neurology and drowning mechanisms.

The phocid whose death Ishmael mentions was number seventeen, Ambla. It is highly likely that number seventeen’s death was accidental, but the circumstances were not caused by a failure of the lab’s climate system.

I have found the experimental notes from that day; Ambla was brought to an isolated chamber which was controlled by the climate system, with its own test pool, and the quality of the atmosphere was changed to match that of the Precursor home planet. The force of gravity was thus increased. What the Humans did not expect was Ambla’s sudden inability to swim to the surface. They inhaled water, which settled in their lungs and caused them to drown even after they had been pulled out of the pool.

Dan expressed grief in his notes, and surprise. He did not understand why such a thing would occur and blamed the climate system for somehow altering the test beyond his parameters. This is likely what led to Cherta’s misconception that the climate system had killed one of their friends, and their subsequent sabotage of the climate system every few months after that.

But any phocid or selkie reading this will intimately recognise the problem, and I believe the mystery of Ambla’s death may now be solved. The water taken to fill the pool was likely Tel!am’s Blood, a phenomenon all sea-faring people will know about. The Precursors, it seemed, were unfamiliar with it, and had pumped water in to the pool which nobody could swim in. But with the increased gravity, even the fittest phocid would struggle to rise in shallow water.

Regardless, there exists a substantial gap between that last journal entry and the next. Almost a year, in fact, when Ishmael did not write at all, and neither did he participate in Maris’s therapy sessions. I do, however, have a copy of Callum’s journal with me which provides at least half of the narrative, incomplete as it is.

These Are The Days Of Our Lives - a series of Last Tango in Halifax fics based on prompts from Tumblr, these were meant to be one shots but found myself weaving it all together int oa bigger story!

The Story - my canon companion to Last Tango - weaving things around the canon with no divergence to make it a love story - this was bloody hard!!!

More Time, More Life, More Feeling - another Last Tango, and probably one of my favourites - I still read this fairly often like a little comfort blanket haha.

The Big L.  - my very first outing with Last Tango. I still love this story even though I look back at it and cringe a little giving it was the first thing I ever wrote, but it means a lot to me.

Fall On Me  - a collab that I did with @question-of-perception that explores things from a different perspective for Last Tango!

I've actually written far more for DW than LTIH but you wouldn't know it!

New Day Coming  for DW, perhaps, although love the one for What Christmas Means To Me  as well. In terms of Last Tango in Halifax, probably The Big L.  because I was so determined to give them their happy ending, its fluffy mcfluff.

Thankfully no, I would definitely cry hahah.

Um. Yes. Probably too much, but its a public service, right? RIGHT?!

Yes, all the time! My maddest one is probably Call It Dreaming which is a crossover between DW/Last Tango/Happy Valley/Collateral and also has some Stranger Things elements... That was madness, haha.

Hmm... I've got a lot of ideas for different things that I make notes on and a few WIPS, but I'm sure I will come back to them eventually!!

I love More Time, More Life, More Feeling for Last Tango, Interstellar for DW (the middle section is probably, in my head, one of the better bits of writing I've done), Danger Zone because Top Gun AU makes me die, and also Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost  with @riversofmars because Lord of the Rings was the first fic that I ever read way back when I was an angsty teen fangirl. 2023 Year-End Fic Round Up

Got tagged by @cr-noble-writes and @swaps55 - thanks both!

Words written (published or not, WIPs totally count too!): ooof. So according to AO3, I published 118,559 words. I also did a lot of work on the Playing the Long Game rewrite, but as I keep all the chapters in separate word docs, cba to add them up - so maybe add an extra 40k or so there?

Smut scenes written (if applicable): Let's see, there's 4 in the bits of LBEL I published this year, then I did three very smutty oneshots. Call it 7.

New things I tried: Not fic, but I did the NYC Midnight Microfiction Challenge! It was a lot of fun.

Fic I spent the most time on: Oh absolutely LBEL, but it was definitely worth it! Finished my first novel-length fic 🙌

Fic I spent the least time on: Priceless sprung from my head fully formed like the goddess Athena. I love it so much

Favourite thing I wrote: LBEL, obviously, was a great achievement, but I'm having lots of fun poking away at the childhood friends rewrite

omg absolutely! thank you so much for this ask because the last few things i posted have been very rushed and for fests that i ran out of time on but still posted so i haven't been very confident in them. so i don't know which of mine you read but thank you it means a lot that you enjoyed <33

the next couple of things i will probably post are linked. last year i wanted to write a cosy sort-of found family on boxing day thing featuring james, sirius, lily, regulus & remus that was very slice of life with not much plot.

then i thought of a plot and changed it to a new year fic which is lily/regulus but also james/sirius where james & sirius have a new year party and sirius asks regulus to distract lily so that james can't make a move on her at midnight

but then i didn't finish it so i'm working on it again this year. then i read the boxing day thing again and i still liked it and they're quite different fics now so i'm hoping to post both

then i have (all romantic james/sirius lol):

house in the woods - this is one of the toxic jily fics! my mind has just been piling up with scenes the past couple of days and i can't keep up. but the premise is the potters in hiding in godric's hollow from lily's pov but her and james are growing apart, sirius is visiting a lot and lily's noticing how james is around sirius vs when it's just them. it makes lily think about friendship, marriage, people she's been close to (so snape) all while trying to spy on james and sirius and work out whether they're actually a thing or if they haven't worked it out yet. lots of sniping back and forth from james and lily, maybe tilting the canon perspective a bit. everyone's going to be an asshole in this <3

half a heart - this is basically james grieving his parents and sirius looking after him and james suddenly being aware of mortality and the people close to him and the fear of losing them. alternating pov, the only multi-chapter fic i have planned because it got too big

hogshead barman sirius fic - this is 21 year old james and 36 year old sirius. sirius runs the hogs head with regulus, has mentally retired, wants an easy life and can't catch a break from james who is embarrassingly flirty and uncool and sirius is like NO I'M OLD and james is like IDC YOU'RE HOT AND I LOVE YOU (after like the first time they meet). a very horny fic

messy jily break-up fic - i've had this plotted for like a year but i started writing it recently for rom com au for prongsfoot bingo. james and lily have a messy break-up, they weren't together THAT long but it was intense and they both try to "win" the break up and they go out of their way to have horrible arguments and sirius is just along for the ride

here comes the rain - remus and sirius in ootp having a drink for james on 27th march, talking about how much they love him. not sure if i want this to be canon compliant or sirius confirming to remus that him and james were a thing/he was in love with james

deep sea baby - mwpp holiday. literally came up with this while i was on holiday but james takes everyone on holiday to give them some big news (sirius knows) and they're all just like "just text it?" but james is extravagant. so he tells them that his dad is selling the company and they all have shares so it should be great news, big payout, but sirius is moody and then there are cute holiday moments and also tension. idk i love writing sirius who just cba with anyone but james makes him crack and i especially love sirius being rude to remus and remus having nothing to say back, sorry, i just do. i lied, this is also multichapter (like 4)

then i have some which i haven't worked on in ages but haven't completely shelved which are:

quidditch world cup 1978 - sirius tries to get james and regulus to go to the quidditch world cup, even though it's wartimes and even though james and regulus have never really gotten to know each other or wanted to. it's like a one last hurrah to youth before the war and going their separate ways and sirius making a connection and maybe trying to get through to regulus. might have to mess with the timeline with this, might just skim over it for james/sirius &regulus which is such a good dynamic

animagus fic - literally just the process of mwpp becoming animagi but with james/sirius in there, it's all about how it brings them closer together

prank fic - intended as like a follow up to the animagus thing, also with james/sirius, lots of tension with remus and james not being as angry with sirius as remus thinks he should be (or at all). need to reimagine parts of this because my perception of snape has evolved

coffee shop au - literally what it says on the tin. started in like 2016 because i was like WHY don't j/s fandom have a coffee shop au? lily works there, remus works there, sirius starts working there, it's called the jam pot, james' mom owns it, there's a little flat above it. one day i will finish this because it just needs sprucing really but the other fics excite me more atm

then i have like threeee other ideas that i haven't written anything, even a plan, for yet so i'll leave those as this is already long

No, don't know if I could cope with that. I could edit the shit out of someone elses though.

I think a lot of the dialogue I write is funny. At least, it's very funny to me and other people tend to at least chuckle at it.

I've had some positive feedback about characterisation and tone (i.e. that they feel in character and that the vibes are good) and that makes me happy because I do often feel like I'm really on a roll with that kind of thing.

9. What are your writing weaknesses?

Aside from barely writing a word for months?

I write too short. Major problem of mine since school days. I tend to understate my points by rushing past them and don't let the story have time to sink in.

I am bad at plot. I have been challenging myself to write more structured short stories with, like, acts and stuff. And while I think i've been doing ok on that aspect, the part of plotting I clearly still struggle with is thinking of an interesting reason for anything to be happening. So often it's just a backdrop for conversations between characters and it's so clear that I didn't care enough to think of something actually entertaining.

I also sometimes end up writing too much dialogue. Like, whoops maybe some things should be happening here instead.

10. First fandom you wrote for?

First fandom I ever published fanfic for? MCU Sambucky a couple of years ago, just before the show started (since orphaned lol that one was bad). I got started pretty late.

In terms of non-published extensive daydream fics, idk like forever ago. Probably x-men evo or, like, bbc robin hood.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention Anon, and thank you to @cometsweepandleonidsfly. Please read the OG posts for more info on their methodology, limitations and all that. Of course I have thoughts, all of which I will cover but first I'll do what tuiyla does best and take this dataset and turn it into something visual. Or at least try.

So to start us off, main characters' screentime in the OG 13 episodes:

I was surprised to see Will come in with over 40% of screentime and decidedly more than Finn or Rachel. Rachel "only" being third is a surprise in and of itself but the favouring of the three "pillars" is clear. The drop between Rachel and Quinn is not insignificant and it reminds me of how big the difference between singing stats often was. Quinn coming in ahead of Kurt and Puck is somewhat surprising, as is Emma and Sue being so low. But compared to a lot of the ND kids, they had significant roles in their scenes. All in all this deffo confirms my view that there was way too much Will early on and the show was too heavy on its three mains.

Season 4 is looking more evenly distributed even if there's quite the drop between Blaine and Marley. Blaine's lead might seem crazy, but he's in just over 29% of the season compared to Will's well over 40% for the first 13. We have more characters but only three more than what I counted for the previous chart so not too bad distribution wise. What's surprising is the newbies, at least the triangle being so high up and Tina and Artie lagging so far behind Sam. Rachel being in the middle is shocking, of course, but keep in mind she fully missed a few episodes and when she was in a scene chances are it focused solely on her. Kurt being after Kitty is more surprising to me, as is Santana being so far behind. Granted, she missed a lot of episodes but my heart weeps anyway. She's still far ahead of Sue and Emma and I'm once again astonished by the mark Jane Lynch and Jayma Mays leave. I wish we had the numbers for Quinn, Mercedes, Puck and Mike here but oh well.

I love that we have a Lima vs NYC stat because it really puts things into perspective:

Wow. Where's the "too much NYC crowd" now, huh. Of course, this explains why even Rachel is relatively low on the list and how the newbies had so much screentime.

What's interesting is the difference in distribution, i.e. season 4's being imo so much better. In many ways it had to be but still. I tried visualizing it via two pie charts of the percentages but they're not that obvious and so I cba to colour them properly.

Instead, I took those percentages and compared the season 1 characters with the season 4 ones. So the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and etc. characters compared would look like this:

That was a nonsensical sentence but what I mean is, red zone is OG 13 and green season 4. The closer the line is to 50% the more the two seasons are alike in how much they feature characters, and the line generally being over 50% in season 1's favour tells us that the main chs there had more screentime. Again this is partly because season 4 had a bigger cast overall; it featured characters not accounted for within the data. But I'd also argue it distributed the more or less same screentime more equally so that's why Blaine's lead isn't the same as Will's in the OG 13. By the way, ignore the names on the line google sheets just didn't let me delete the redundant labels.

Something hopefully a bit more demonstrative: I divided the OG 13 by, well, 13 and multiplied by 22 to "get a full season" from those stats (notably these are not the full season 1 numbers) and compared those minutes with the season 4 ones. This shows you the difference even better even if we only compare the top 5 characters of each season:

Again ignore the labels, they're the season 1 top 5. Will's screentime projected to 22 episodes is waaaay more than what Blaine got in season 4 and this gap really only starts to balance out once the season 1 drop happens with Quinn and Kurt. Even then, comparatively, they were better featured than their season 4 counterparts, Sam and Ryder. To be fair, I'd much rather watch Quinn and Kurt than Sam and Ryder.

And finally, what I love the most: singing stats and bubble charts! The most I could possibly bring to this conversation is adding singing into the mix and see how that compares to the characters' screentime.

See this reddit post for some background on my singing stats database. What you need to know for this is that I have a system for different types of songs not just the number of songs the given character was featured in, so I give point totals and hope it's a more accurate reflection of how much people sang. And how does that compare to their screentime? Well.

Note that this first chart is a character's OG13 screentime compared to their overall season 1 singing.

Rachel sang the most, unsurprisingly, so her and Finn singing that much more than Will while appearing less created this interesting contrast. All three are waaay ahead in screentime as this perhaps demonstrates better than previous charts, and we see that compared to her screentime Mercedes sang quite a bit. But the difference between our 1%-ers and the proletariat is clear and we see how little Kuinn's screentime mattered, in a sense. Sue and Emma are basically nonexistent on both fronts when compared to others, so much so that even Santana with her back 9 songs almost catches up to the crowd. Make of the rest of this what you will.

Since I realized while writing this that I should have probably looked at how much they sang in the OG 13, here's that chart:

Now this looks quite different and is perhaps the better chart to analyze. Finn is further behind Rachel and her lead in singing is undisputable, whereas Mercedes stays between Finn and Will with singing. Sue didn't get a song in the OG 13 and, sadly, neither did Santana so they're missing entirely. Emma is barely there with her one solo but still ahead of Kurt, who had the screentime but evidently not the songs. His sole entry is the Defying Gravity duet. Quinn had comparatively more in the first 13 and that elevates her above Puck and Tina but I still wouldn't exactly say it's proportionate to her screentime. It's quite all over the place, particularly when compared to season 4:

So season 4 follows more of a trend and what would be expected. Meening, no huuuuge outliers and less of an upper 1% feel, though Blaine is clearly "winning" in terms of both singing and screentime. Marley is second in both regards and we see a more or less clear pattern of singing and screentime collating. Tartie sing somewhat little compared to their screentime but most of it checks out as realistic. How the mighty have fallen with Will being last in terms of singing. But then, of course, we have Pezberry, the only two who I'd say are not following the established trend. Both sing more relative to their screentime than most characters, with Rachel almost being up there with Marley and yet being in the middle with her screentime. This isn't a huge shock or anything. But then we have Santana, who's well behind Will in terms of screentime and yet sings as much as Kurt and is in the same ballpark as the likes of Unique and Tina. This means Santana's time on screen in season 4 was well spent, with the likes of Girl on Fire, Nutbush, Cold Hearted and, of course, Mine. A stark difference to season 1.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

A bit baffled by the decision to include chs like Kent and Brad in the OG 13 post but not the alumni in season 4, but hey I'm not the one doing the research. I ignored non-mains for my OG 13 visualizations.

I would LOVE to see this done for the whole series but obviously it's not like it could ever be truly representative and it would take soooo much effort. I'm grateful for this glimpse at screentime distributions.

I know not all of this was super clear and detailed so please feel free to let me know if I should clarify anything. Like I told another Anon, you will be seeing more stats from me because I do love this sort of stuff and this was really fun to explore. Again much thanks that this dataset exists and I hope I could offer something new and interesting with it.

I'm a godparent to many, and am lucky enough to be surrounded by lots of kids that call me aunty. But sadly, none of my own.

Okay so I'm not using tags for this part cause I think it would take a little too long but-

I work at a grocery store as a scheduling administrator. As part of our CBA I have to inform someone every time I change their shifts. This happens A LOT. So I have to call them all. And I'm REALLY good with numbers (memorizing them at least) so I've managed, in just calling some people some times, to memorize the bulk of my coworker's phone numbers. (It's super easy if they happen to have a number that has a Produce PLU in it. 4799 Hot house tomatoes, 4817 Jumbo yams. Last 4 digits of two coworkers phone numbers)

One coworker who's also a friend and knows this about me got a new phone number JUST TO MESS WITH ME. And he made sure there WASN'T AN EASY PATTERN TO IT. Conversation went something like this:

Had a lovely gay weekend and ahhh I'm gay. Very. Also kind of an interesting temperature/vibe check. Basically spent entirety of it with El which is very poggers 👍 Friday night at mine and then the rest near/at Els.

Friday- not much to note just gay

Saturday - left early to go to LP cafe. No Paul once again, unfortunate. I think my chai latte was all milk no chai, still nice enough tho I like cinnamon and fluffy milk lmao. Bought records (milk teeth s/t, eat me melon enema) but predictably I've left them at Els. Went to pub for late lunch/dinner and to see Els dad DJ.

Very year six disco but the pub was nice enough (unnecessarily gendered single stall toilets but whatever, they were clean at least). Chatted ridiculous amounts of shit but for once got El to chat a bunch. Lots of dorky teen El photos and information, lots of Metallica gay theorising.

Never know how to interact with Els family and family friends. All very awkward but nice. Getting introduced as Els boyfriend was very nice. Learnt a lot about the family label, and history- interesting and also a tale as old as time haha. Met Els brother for the first time, all very awkward but he is nice. Stayed up late and watched a couple of stupid movies with El. I had a bit of a dysphoria wobble but el was super nice about it

Sunday- gay morning hell yeah. Got breakfast at a cafe and chatted more stupid shit with El. Got back and essentially watched stupid movies all day with Els family which was nice but also awkward.

I get a bit nervous being gay in small spaces with others but El and their family are all like. So close and don't seem to give a shit about anything, and also like they could leave they just wouldn't lmao rip. Stupid movies were mostly entertaining. El made some really really good dinner. Accidentally left a bit suddenly bc I didn't realise the Uber was so close. Felt so sad entire journey home.

Was nice to spend an extended period of time with el for once.

Pros: gay, good chats, good food, mostly good movies, cuddles.

Cons: we have some very similar flaws which could become a problem one day (but at the same time thinking long term like that is difficult/anxiety inducing and I am just going to avoid continue to avoid thinking about long term), I don't love Els family house (you have to walk through their brother's room to get in/out of Els room which is hell on so many levels amongst other things), Paul is a coward and me and El are going to have to go to drastic measures to harass him (we are going to have to attend his DJ night)

So you go talk to Mask, who asks about how Kiwi's dreams where, and Kiwi can't remember them! Yay! /j Then Mask asks if you're going to see the ghosts, because turns out the local town, Langtree, is being haunted by ghosts. So you decide to go visit and see what's happening. Yada yada, then we have some puzzles to get to town lmao not very interesting. Just before you go into town you meet Miriam! And she is very grumpy and she asks if you know the Overseer's song. When you say no, she's annoyed and won't talk to you anymore, so you move on. You go into town, go into the first person's house and have a lil memory game to sing the ghost away! Must say I loove the music here, like aghhhhr they did so good with the ghosts. So you defeat the ghost with singing, it says something in,,, shapes,,, then floats away and disappears. So you head around town, and sing away all the ghosts, and the mayor tells you the only one left is in Ruby's house. So you go on over, Ruby is refusing to leave the house, and you sing the ghost away. Then Ruby yells at you a lil and everyone tells her to stop being rude, it's cool. Then the mayor straight up says "I guess bards do have some use" rude smh. Anyway she asks you to go see the overseer, the Dream King, because he might know why the ghosts shows up. But first. You need the overseers song. Which only Ruby knows. So you gotta get Ruby to teach you the song (which is fine the town just tells her to do it) and then you go off to the Tree of Slumber. You sing the song, and go to the Spirit World, where you do some more puzzles yay!! Then you get to the Overseer's Castle, meet the Dream Fairy who is an itty bitty lil kitty who tells you that the dream king is taking a nap so can't meet you. And also the king has been napping for a couple of centuries so. You ask the fairy to wake him up, and they say no, plus the bell at the top of the castle is the only way to wake him up. You end up ringing the bell, meet to Dream King who is a giant cat man, sans undertale type character, and he's upset that you woke him up so won't give you his part to the Earthsong. But! He does give you magical understanding of the shape language! So that's cool! So you leave :/ then you go out to town, and the ghosts have shown up outside Ruby's house again. But now!! You understand their shape language!! And turns out they're the recently deceased relatives of people in the town, who heard the world was ending and came to see their loved ones again. So you sing this to the town, they're like "oh, ok" so the ghosts get to chill here, and the Langtree shenanigans are done! As you're leaving, Miriam stops you and finds out you learned to overseers song, so tells you she's trying to stop the world ending, and asks you to come with her to see her grandma. Also she's a witch lmao. So off u go!!

Won't go into full detail about the plot of chp2 and 3, bc BOY this took longer than expected, but you meets Miriams grandma, go into the town Delphi, where the next overseer, the Queen of Winds, is. On the way you meet a troll, who's bf got frozen by magic, but you don't manage to help. You go into town manage to start a band and perform at the local bar, and you get the overseers song from one of the band members. Then miriams a lil annoyed, cuz she spent the whole time looking for it herself and Kiwi was just messing around making a band and helping ppl and doing sidequests n shit. So she's annoyed, Kiwi goes off to meet to overseer and they do! She is a beeg bird lady!! And her fairy is like a grumpy lil teenager I love him also. He's mad at the queen, so he runs off and the queen is actually super nervous and unsure of herself. So she gives you the song, and on the way out you meet to fairy. You tell him he should go back, and he does. Then you get picked up by some pirates (coffee bean salesmen) to take you to the next overseer. Oh also u manage to save the trolls bf! Cuz you're slightly more magic now!!

Chp2 mainly serves as getting to know Miriam and Kiwi and they are like. The opposite character. Kiwi is optimistic, outgoing and loves people! They want to help people, and are a pacifist. Miriam on the other hand is grumpy, pessimistic, hates people and generally wants to blow stuff up with magic a lot. They are both very autistic-coded and I love them very much.

Chp3 in Tantango, very vibrant island! Uhhh I don't remember much of this chapter ngl, its my least favourite, but you meet some mermaids who give you the overseers song. While finding them, you basically do a quest to get a gem thingy, and along the way all the monsters are killed, the chests are looted etc and you don't know why,,, but you head off to meet the overseer, Queen Chaos. You get to see that the overseer is some kind of whale or fish creature, and then she's hit with a lightning sword and fucking dies. Introducing!!! Audrey Redheart! The hero! Turns out, while you've been getting the earthsong pieces, Eya and Eyala picked a "hero" who's going to "save the world" from the "corrupt and evil" overseers who are going to fill the land with monsters. Which. Ok first off very wrong. Second off EYALA is there. The one who told you about the earthsong, who gave you HOPE about saving the world. And after Audrey gloats a bit about being the hero and leaves, Eyala tells you that sure the earthsong is a thing, but it's never worked. No ones ever done it and saved the world. Because it's not really just a song, you need the force of the whole world behind it. Which is really hard, because there's so much chaos everywhere. And she leaves you. Next to the dead overseers crown. With nothing, not even telling you how to now get this piece of the song. Eventually miriam shows up, and literally has to kick Kiwi's ass to get them to even get up. Turns out there's still something around. Enough for you to get the song piece, barely.

The game starts introducing chp4, then cuts itself off for the interlude. This is where I started getting that feeling of holy shit this game is actually really good btw. So the interlude is from Audrey's pov, normal rpg type stuff. You fight your way through a place to get to the boss, with some occasional lil puzzles. Except you're fighting. Through the Queen of Winds' Castle. And the final boss. Is the Queen of Winds. And she's, like, actually like a monster, just a mass of black feathers that senselessly attacks you. So you kill her. Wow, don't you feel terrible.

Now chp4 starts. It's titled "March of the Happy Kid", ouch. It's my favorite chapter. Now, I mentioned earlier I love the color palettes in this game, and I stand by it. One of the main game mechanics is singing, which included a rainbow wheel thing for each of the notes! And the rainbow changes with each chapter to match the color palettes. Chp1 is fairly game palette, chp2 is just pretty, really, with a blue/purple town but with autumnal vibes, and chp3 is all vibrant and nice! Which is great contrast to chp4, where all the colors are now tones of blue except for red. And now the color wheel is all blue. Except for red. OGUGGHRHHHHHRH I LOVE THIS GAME. Now we're in Chismest, Kiwi's childhood hometown, in Kiwi's mothers house. And Kiwi is. Sad. I don't really have the best word to describe this emotion, but Kiwi is upset. They were going to save the world with the earthsong, and now someone chosen by the goddess Eya herself is actively preventing them from saving the world? Anyway introducing!! Kiwi's self-esteem issues! Because what's a happy optimistic character without crippling self-doubt! Throwback to when the mayor of Langtree said "I guess bards actually do have a use"? Remember that? Yeah. Anyway, there's a lot of stuff that happens here, you meet Miriam, and she's reasonably annoyed? Because Kiwi has done nothing for days and they have to SAVE THE WORLD. But she has the overseers song already, it's an old lullaby that Kiwi already knows but they can't sing. They can't sing. It's croaky and hoarse because they've been inside their childhood room for the past 3 days to a week, and the background music sounds like an out of tune music box and AGH I love this overseers song btw. Anyway, ignoring Kiwi's,,, issues, the song doesn't work anyway because there's too much smog in the town, because there's a massive fucking toy factory in town now. So you need to shut down the factory now to get to the overseer. Great. So you have to basically find people to help you take the place down. You eventually do, except you need one more. So you go to Miriam! And ask her to help! Turns out she also has issues! Yay! We live mental health talk here. Anyway, turns out SHES been feeling useless because Kiwi has so effortlessly been getting the overseers song at each town, while making friends and helping people, and Miriams just been here doing NOTHING but standing around, being grumpy, and taking you from place to place.
