Ask, and ye shall receive This is an AU of my species swap Shakarian series - so don't worry, I'm not spoiling the "canon," as it were --- Strolling back onto the bridge of the Menae was extremely satisfying - or maybe it was just because he had Shepherd by his side. The crew - mostly Hierarchy - snapped up to attention as Shepherd approached the comms console. "Some of you will recognize Gareth Vakarian from our previous missions. He's been advising the Alliance on all matters related to Reapers, but, as of today, he'll be returning as our gunnery officer."

It was a good introduction: very professional.

Gareth snaked his arm around Shepherd's waist. "Aren't you burying the lede?" She smirked. "And," she said, "he's my husband." And then she leaned her face towards his. The Hierarchy crew didn't whoop or laugh when they kissed, like a human detail might: mostly they just seemed kind of confused.

Gareth doubted there was protocol for this.

The ceremony was being held in a venue just outside Cipritine, the buildings bubbled under a glimmering radiation shield for the aliens. Shepard’s room was on the other side of the accommodation from his, and he’d called her half an hour ago and she’d assured him she’d be ready in time, but when he actually knocked on her door, she yelled “five more minutes!”

She did that at least four more times.

Garrus tapped his foot and knocked on the door again. He was already too hot in his dress uniform and his sister would murder him if he was late. “How long can it possibly take for you to get ready?” he shouted through the door.

ON the subject of undernegotiated kink in fanfiction. i think we should talk more about how the concept of "not talking about it" is just as much wish fulfillment for some people as "in-depth, therapy-speak conversations where everyone is clear and understood" is for others

like yes, in reality the antidote to shame is open honest conversation with someone who will validate your feelings and wants blah blah blah but SOMETIMES what i want out of my fanfic is characters being understood without having to expose themselves in that way. SOMETIMES it's fun to not dismantle the shame and repression all the way and to instead treat that understanding-despite-not-being-clear as the fantasy
