#i'm going to counter-recommend you sarah caudwell just in case *you*'ve never read her stuff #it's much more like sayers than christie #in that it is a series of novels with a lofty and ridiculous british protagonist and delightful prose stylings #and mysteries that you enjoy perfectly well while reading only to realize after a short delay that they kind of sucked #ok that's unfair. many peter wimsey mystery resolutions don't suck it's just that gaudy night's mystery sucks so bad it colors the rest #retroactively.#but‚ like sayers before her‚ caudwell's actual novels are so good that whether the mysteries are nonsense does not actually matter at all #box opener #veryspecificfantasies
