Togami Time! Byakuya Time works too but I like the alliteration of the first. Spoilers ahead of course!
Tumblr media
For Byakuya's casual attire, I gave him that very standard rich man polo. I did spice it up a bit with a black, fairly slick turtleneck underneath that hugs his body. I decided to also have his polo tucked in for extra style points along with the addition of the belt. I like giving this man belts after all. Unless he's in his fancy pajamas, he's wearing a belt the majority of the time! And, of course, his clothes, though a bit basic in a way, cost a lot of money. Sorta honed slight bits from his bad ending attire oddly enough. It wasn't much but just that sorta sporty look in a way. I dunno what the jacket he wore would be called but it gives me slight sporty vibes. Thus, Byakuya's giving off some flamboyant golfer energy which, to be fair, he probably knows how to golf for the most part. For his business attire, I initially drew a more elaborate design (no worries. it'll be seen at some point!!) though I toned it down a lot more for work. He may be fashionable but he's also a man of practicality in many regards. Thus, he's got a pocket watch and a basic suit with some flairs. Specifically, I gave him some emerald colored brooches in his hair and on his tie, hinting back to how he likes the Scarab Brooch in game. After all, with age, I feel the main facets of his interests wouldn't change. The guy is still into those dark academia type stuff. Also, the gold elbow pads are just cus. I dunno. They might be a bit much but I felt a bit bad for just putting him in a suit at the same time! Some other bits I wish to mention about his business attire is that, though he does wear this for work, for my future AU, I see him working a lot at home as well! He's still quite involved with the Togami Conglomerate, but he's found a nice balance where he only needs to travel to other countries sometimes, not the majority. Byakuya deserves a break after all the stuff he went through both pre-tragedy, during the tragedy, and the clean up post-tragedy. That clean up is still occurring still (it's about a decade after dr3/the anime) so there's still work to be done. Byakuya has a bit less to do with the whole "helping to rebuild the economy thing" though since I like to think that, with his influence, he helps with that. Back to his work though, he mostly does this in a designated office area in his condo. He also does this in his mansion sometimes though crashes out into some of the other's places to work as well or just because he can. Speaking of that, though he does live in his condo, he likes to roam a lot and sometimes ends up staying over with the others. It started out as a one time deal before it slowly became the thing he does. His primary targets are Kyoko and Makoto in their apartment and Toko and Komaru in theirs. He does go to Hiro's place as well though to "make sure the idiot isn't causing trouble" and he also goes to Hina's too though less than Hiro's. He'd mostly just be in Toko and Komaru's place if he wanted to check up on Hina cus, though they are friends, the two still like to butt heads. Plus, in this AU, Hina doesn't even live that far away from Toko and Komaru anyway. I headcanon that they all live fairly close from one another cus they all still like spending time together. Thus, thems the rules in this AU. However, despite this man's resilience to not stay at his own damn condo, he's not mooching off of any of them... for the most part. He makes sure to repay anything, sometimes to an annoying degree like him making himself coffee in the morning and then just chucking money in their face before they can say anything. Either that or the man just goes and orders a fancy ass dinner while saying that he "ordered too much" which is just his weird way of showing that he cares for them all. That's not to say that he does that all the time. He understands fully that none of his friends are here for his money. The man can sometimes do it anyway out of habit though he's less bad with this than he was years ago.
Tumblr media
For his body type, it's fairly basic, perhaps a little average. A little squishy in some areas which ironically makes him kinda huggable despite him still being aloof in nature. His slight squishy qualities are practically hidden to those who don't know him though. Besides, though he is squishy, that is not to say he should, by any means, be underestimated. He shares this quality with my Kyoko design in some ways (gotta love the togiri parallels) Basically, though he's not super muscular, he could still kick ass. Besides, I feel he wouldn't be one to try and get super buff and all anyway. He probably COULD gain some very good muscle though. He probably just doesn't want to. Additionally, I have him in slightly different glasses. For one, they are to differentiate him much more from his canon design. I also thought the chains would be cool and that the rounded frames would be a nice contrast to all the spikes I gave him in his hair. It also compliments his slightly softer appearance as well, being an older man as well pushing 30. Gives him more of a sense that he's got a bit of fallibility. That he's still a human at the end of the day! He also is a bit nicer with age as well though still Byakuya Togami of course!
Tumblr media
Out of all the elements I changed about my favorite guy, I think my favorite aspect is his hair. So many cute tufts! Plus, I am a sucker for him having long hair. I also feel I made a good balance between making him look like he could totally pull off the Polaris thing again and having him still look like a guy. But also, he's a bit androgynous as well! Hope you all enjoy this loser's design! The next design will be very soon! (1) | (4)

Batb: Other Than Human - Themes stuff (& why I Called It That)
Tumblr media
That's right folks, the self-indulgent "throwing any concept I like at the wall and haphazardly mixing together what sticks" au rewrite Thing has Actual Themes! That kind of happened accidentally but they are so real for that so let's get into it.
The Main Narratives Themes Trio of the story now all also embody expanded themes about being an "Other", when being a person is not enough to be properly considered human- more specifically of a neurodivergent/queer girlhood type flavor.
Summary is that it's called "Other Than Human" because the prominent theming is about being considered something other than human due to not fitting the mold of the 'norm'.
[This is a long one so details & specific character stuff are under the cut<3]
Amalure has the greatest departure from her original counterparts thematic placing, so we'll start with her. Amalure retains Gaston's social standing, reputation, etc. But it's of course not quite the same- because she is a woman, and she is not revered for being the picture of ideal womanhood/femininity. Instead, she excels in masculinity, but remains firm that she is and always will be a woman. So, to justify the desire & awe people have for her, they dehumanize her: She doesn't need to follow the Rules because she is outside of them. Amalure is not a person: she is a symbol, a figure, an object. A legend, a folksong, a modern myth. Her skills are not skills they are blessings, inherent, a mundane magic or supernatural. Despite having grown up in Villeneuve for her entire life, she is considered exotic, and is practically, if not actually, fetishized. And through all of this, the status quo and social order gets to be retained without question, and she gets to exist as the exception that proves the rule, rather than the Undesirable that she'd be marked as otherwise.
Amalure is fine with this, because this dehumanization is her status quo: She doesn't really view herself as a person either, she is defined by her relationship to other people, by who she is to them. Amalure has never been a person to anybody: Growing up she was never just a girl, never just Amalure: She was a girl with a mans brain, an embodiment of her fathers greatest achievements, an embodiment of her mothers worst mistakes, she is her fathers daughter or her mothers daughter, but not her own. (and she never both, it is either or, mother or father, never both, never parents.)
Princess Eve/The Beast is the other end of this, of operating through her dehumanization. Upon being cursed, she adheres to what societies have oft wanted to happen to their Undesirables: Hide away and never be seen by the public again. It is entirely self-inflicted, as most of her suffering truly is. She operates not through others dehumanizing view of her, but her dehumanizing view of herself and its warping of how she believes others view her. Because, well, the servants still view her as a person. I mean, they're still human- under the new object forms. And the separation of humanity that is easy to slip into on matters of royalty is awfully minimal as well; they watched her grow up, and she grew up among them.
The girl's bratty, spoiled, temperamental, and is a ball of horrid consequences of the shallow views and ideals learned from surrounding nobility. But she's also the girl that fell asleep listening to Cogsworth explain the many technicalities to managing servants; because she was stubborn in asserting her authority as the mistress of the castle, and thus she Must have say over its goings ons. But the majordomo's voice can be awfully soothing when he's not high-strung on anxiety, and it's hard to pay attention when you don't understand what's being discussed, so its all going in one ear and out the other. And She's Lumiere's 'Evie', who was so amused when Lumiere would draw on a little mustache when dancing the male roles so the princess could learn some duo dances, or because she didn't look very "waiter-like" (because Eve wasn't entirely sure what a maĂźtre d' did, but it seemed to have something to do with waiters), and who got annoyed every time the dance teacher/maĂźtre d' would warn her not to hurt her body in her pursuits, because it seemed so silly, why would anyone do that? And she's the girl who dragged Mrs. Potts to have tea with her, because she made the best tea and as princess she would have only the best; and if you're going to have tea you may as well have a tea party, and you can't really have a party of one, but two isn't much of a party either so she's going to drag Babette away from her duties too, since the maid was so elegant and thus would be perfect.
Honestly, the girl probably would've turned out fine if she was raised by just the servants. But they weren't the only forces in her life: she's a princess, so she's got to host and interact with important people and learn how to Be noble which isn't something any of the servants can teach her. And it is under the pressures and eyes of nobility, is in mixing and learning their social rules, that learns the lessons that will lead to her curse: That to be considered human and treated as such, one must look human. And to be such as a woman meant to look beautiful, like the ideal. As a woman, to be worthy is to be beautiful and vice versa. And even if she does not, she must have some way to serve men. Otherwise, she is nothing. Eve met these requirements well, and where she did not yet her authority as princess covered. So when a beggar woman is at her doorstep, the princess turns her away: because she is old, ugly, so long past her 'prime'- there is no worth to her anymore. There is no point caring for her future.
Helene stands as both the middle ground and inverse to the other two. She is an Other by virtue of her mind, she is Objectifiable by virtue of her beauty. She sits on the precipice between Undesirable and Desired, seeming nearly apathetic to where she lands despite popular encouragement to embrace or smother aspects of herself. Helene is quite sure she's a person like anyone else, thank you, and is frankly frustrated and a bit weirded out that others seem to have a hard time getting the memo- she doesn't like or want to assume the worst, though, so maybe she just missed another confusing untold social rule or something. I mean, the local triplets really do seem to be advising in good faith- they really do think of her as one of them to an extent (for reasons Helene is yet to know); they just don't understand her.
When Amalure pursues her, there's an unspoken aspect to the deal of marriage she proposes: Helene will get a secured place on the in of the community, a secure standing the promises people no longer questioning or trying to encourage her to no longer be herself. But Helene just isn't interested in Amalure like that, and she also sees what the real trade-off of that security is; that uncomfortable dehumanization that is exactly what Helene doesn't want to deal with anymore. If Amalure is fine living with it than she is free to do as she pleases, but the huntress doesn't seem to understand what Helene could possibly have a problem with- and it's not like they can discuss it, because it's unspoken, and you're not supposed to speak the unspoken things, because they're unspoken for a reason- even if you don't know what that reason is. Helene knows that rule, at least.
When Helene meets the Beast, she regards her as she does any other. It's plain as day that the Beast has a humanity to her, whether she's really "human" or not- she thinks and she feels, and that's enough for Helene.
Because Helene grew up raised by a single dad who she got most of her brain workings from, and he is a man of compassion and science. Off he'd send his beloved daughter to go and question and figure out the world for herself, to experiment and learn and become whatever she desires. Off to bed he'd send her to tell her fairy tales and have their lessons of love and compassion and humanity understood as she drifted off to sleep. Helene was never Odd with her father, never Other, in fact they were so easily two of a kind. It was so jarring, hearing people imply Tyndare less than sane; his logic paths were so easy to follow- but apparently his voice gruffs enough that others have a hard time understanding what he's saying sometimes, so that's where things seem to get lost in translation she guesses. People became jarring in other ways as she grew up too, because suddenly there seemed to be lots of social things she was supposed to know or be but didn't and wasn't, and it became very apparent very quickly that she was an Other among her village.
Overall: Eve & Helene get to go through these themes through the main plot, and post curse-breaking is when Eve gets to properly deal with the internalized issues and whatnot. Like she's learned beauty doesn't matter when it comes to love, and shouldn't decide whether or not someone should be cared about, and Helene loves her despite her having been beastly and despite her being a failure of a woman- (because she no longer fits the feminine ideal after the curse is broken, and frankly she never will again.) But she's still a Failure Of A Woman and Helene deserves Better Than That! So there's still work to do.
Amalure remains static on this aspect of the narrative until after the battle at the castle, where she does survive! .. barely. and it's later, in an argument with her mother that same night, bleeding out on the kitchen floor, when she asserts that she's her daughter too, not just her fathers. she has always been her daughter, always will be, she is the daughter of both of them, because that's not something that just switches or turns on and off- and it's an entire rant that I will not recite here, but the important part is the assertion that she is, always has been, always will be, the daughter of both her parents at once- that's the first little step for her arc of recognizing her own individual personhood and whatnot.
#Amalure's mother is a CHARACTER alright#she has a ref I need to make too...#fun fact Amalure falls asleep in her childhood bed that night being convinced the last thing she did was yell at her mom#and acutely aware that there is no comfort for her in this house.#Wire monkey mother frfr#anyways uh hi.#how obvious is it that the person making this is a she/it ND sapphic???#because Hi hello that is I#Yes Helene is VERY definitely Neurodivergent.#I can easily say she's autistic because the traits she displays are most commonly associated w/ it#but tbh I don't have autism and I didn't give her those traits with specifically autism in mind or research#so she's just.. generally Not Neurotypical.#project whatever you want onto her as you will#Fun fact the physique change Eve gets after being uncursed is me finding a justification for me basing part of her design on thinking that#Amalure seeing her and immediately having the Worst gender envy of her life since her dad died#while Eve is having like the worst body image issues of her life#would be kinda funny lowk#Also I might have a type but shhhhhhh#anywayss uhhh#gem stop yapping in ur tags#batb: other than human#ramblez brambles#doodlez#I just did some mild editing w/ the ref art cuz I'm too lazy to make new shit for this and I didn't want this to Just be a text post#Princess Eve#Helene#Amalure#sorry of any of this is rambly/hard to read I randomly woke up at like 2:30am#idk when I started writing this post but idr doing much of anything beforehand besides making the little banner thing#and it's... 6:13am now.

Today is a good day, surprisingly. Usually, snow means nightmares and not eating enough, and worrying Joel into an early grave. But not today, today is a good day. Because today, Joel is off rotation, and school is canceled because the snow drifted and they can't get the doors open. That means spending the whole day with Joel, just the two of them.
Which lead them to where they are now. Be a shame to waste it, Joel tells her, helping her pull her hat onto her head. They march outside, bundled up against the nip in the air. Ellie starts the snowball fight, purely because she can. Nails him directly in the face too, she's pretty proud of it. She silently thanks Tommy, for showing her how to make one.
She takes cover behind the shed in the backyard, when she sees Joel making a snowball, no doubt to retaliate. Joel takes cover behind the big cottonwood. They spend who knows how long hucking snowballs at each other and laughing harder than Ellie thinks they ever have. Turns out Ellie has excellent aim when it comes to throwing snowballs. Joel, they discover, does not. A fact that Ellie spends a good ten minutes cackling about, bent over at the waist and face red.
Joel takes the opportunity to shove a handful of snow down the back of her shirt, and she will deny the shriek she lets out until the day she dies.
She tackles him, and he lets her. Falls to the side like she took him down when they both know she couldn't knock him over at all if he didn't allow it. She grabs handfuls of snow, pelts him with them, giggling the whole time. He retaliates, flips her to the side so she lands with a huff.
They stay like that, both laying on their sides and throwing handfuls of snow at one another. Joel laughs so hard no sound comes out and she knows he'd be clapping, if his hands weren't occupied. His seal laugh, as she calls it, is one of her favorite things in the whole world.
They stop after a while, stay on the ground panting to catch their breath and giggling together. They both roll onto their backs, snickering under their breath. She looks up at the sky, points out a cloud that looks like a butterfly. Looks like Sarah wanted to be involved, she tells him, just to see the way his eyes go soft and fond. He shifts in place, brings his arms up. Swooshes his arms and legs back and forth, eyes on the sky.
"Making a snow angel," he answers, when she asks him what the fuck he's doing.
He sighs when she tilts her head in confusion. Stands and pulls her to her feet, mumbles something about FEDRA doesn't teach shit do they under his breath. Introduces her to the fine art of making a snow angel. Shows her how by example, moves to a fresh area to start. She flops down next to his when it's done. Makes her own.
"What do you think, Kiddo?" Joel asks as he helps her dust the snow off her back, once she stands up again.
She turns to look at them. His is way better than hers is, she can admit that. But she doesn't think that hers is bad, just that Joel's is better. Which makes sense, given he's like a hundred and has been doing this for far longer than her.
It does something to her, though. Seeing them side by side like that. Makes something warm and gooey and soft spread through her chest, seeing his much larger angel next to her smaller one. Smiles when she notices that the "wings" of their angels are crossed over each other. She likes it, like they're holding hands or something. Like they're family.
"I think they're perfect," she tells him.
"So do I, Kiddo, so do I."
Ellie beams at him, and he grins back. She wants to tell him, how much this means to her. How much he means to her but isn't sure how to do it. How to get the words out. Because how could she ever put anything Joel means to her into words. Joel is her best friend, he's the best thing that ever happened to her. How can she possibly put that into words? There aren't any words big enough, to encapsulate everything Joel is to her, everything he does for her.
Settles for asking, "Cocoa?" with a lopsided smile, the one she knows is his favorite.
"Cocoa," he agrees, looping an arm over her shoulder to lead her back inside.
Her jacket is soaked through, and she’s absolutely freezing, but her heart feels warm because Joel is with her.
And, right now, that's all that matters. Joel is with her.

4, 5, 23, 26 and 27 for rook!maeve and alidda
thank youuuu!! xoxo // rook questionnaire
4: If your Rook was a companion, where would they be found?
rambler's note: i took this as where they would be found in the lighthouse?? idk if that was the intention, but it's what my brain decided at 2am so that's how the answers proceeded.
MAEVE — i think it’d be the right amount of fantastical magic suited for Maeve that you’d access her space by going through a portal in the mini library of the lighthouse’s entryway, and then end up in a laughably larger library that’s inside one of the floating towers outside. multiple floors that you can explore by taking a spiral staircase, and she can either be found on the ground floor relaxing in a reading chair or 2-3 floors up in what looks to be her designated bedroom, sat up at a writing desk scratching away at some parchment.
ALIDDA — i’m deciding it needs to be obnoxious to get to her room because it’s funny. you know that walkway that leads up to the big ass eluvian, where on the sides it just has empty spaces of blue?? let’s add a broken up staircase going down to one side, that so clearly looks like a low effort jumping puzzle, and then at the end it opens up into an abandoned map room. Alidda never had the stairs fixed because she’s already used to hopping and climbing to navigate terrain, she feels right at home. the cutest updates to her room would be map markers and notes showing Rook’s progress in exploration, little comments about uncovered locations and shelves holding some of the collected artifacts/momentos. partway through act 2 one of those magic studying desks that are always lying around gets added to a corner of the room and a codex entry is on top of it with notes on how Bellara’s teaching her some advanced arcane analytics or smth.
5: What emotion did they usually pick?
MAEVE — i don’t know if they have names in veilguard, but Maeve was a majority blue with some dashes of purple, and some friendly flirting tossed in here and there for good measure. just bard things đŸ„°
ALIDDA — and if i admitted right here that i only played maybe 30 minutes of Alidda’s save before i went and made another mage. what then. my called shot is a 40/35/25 split between direct/humorous/helpful (using da2 terms lmao) because it feels like the right kinda energy for a girly raised by Jorina and then later being influenced by said sister and her chaos boyfriend once they’re around more.
23: What do they do after an absolute crisis?
MAEVE — seek out loved ones, which is blessedly simple in the lighthouse. she knows where to find somebody if she feels drawn to needing their particular energy in the moment, or can just as easily find a grouping of the companions to surround herself with. she can't stand being alone and draws a great deal of comfort from talking things through with her friends, though sometimes it's enough to simply be there as they talk amongst each other. after that entire [redacted] ordeal of act 3, for a time it was borderline impossible to find Maeve anywhere without Emmrich or Neve, she became so horrendously clingy and reliant on maintaining physical touch to ground herself.
ALIDDA — funnily enough i think Alidda might be almost an opposite in this department. she would've reached a point growing up where she realized that it would make her big sister's life so much easier if she was independent and could handle things on her own, and one of the habits that came out of that goal was isolating herself to work through any big emotions alone so that she wouldn't burden either of her siblings with it. she'd still rely on that in the present, retreating from the group and coming back half an hour later as if she'd found a reset button, right back to normal. (she was off-screen talking to herself for like 15 minutes and then took a 15 minute nap tbh)
26: What animal best represents your Rook?
MAEVE — luckily i got to avoid extra research by remembering that the swan is one of Maeve's symbols! they're known for beauty, grace, love, and loyalty, all perfect for the babygirl. i also just think she’d like them a lot so i’m counting that towards being important and nobody can stop me.
ALIDDA — animal symbolism research drives me up the wall so i'm going to just settle for now and go with a hawk: clear vision, keen senses, adaptability, courage, loyalty, trusting yourself, etc etc.
27: What was their life like before the events of Veilguard?
MAEVE — i truly straight up ignore the in-game shadow dragon background for her because i don’t give a fuck, it’s Maeve. she’s in this world just for the fun of it, not being canon compliant. i was looking at the faction-given surname the other night and goofing to myself about how it’d be funny if she used that while adventuring purely because she’s also a famous author in this world and can’t be going around as a shadow dragon having people recognize her off the bat. i want to see companions gagged that this modern icon of romance & adventure novels is their de facto leader, it’s so funny to me idk. the less goofy stuff is that i think she could actually be fairly similar to her usual backstory here, just further along in the journey. a lady freed from her abusive, dreadful excuse of a husband that was able to build a ridiculously successful brand as an author while moonlighting on the side as an adventurer over the years, just this time she ends up working with the shadow dragons instead of witchers lmao. she would’ve been something like a connection of theirs that provided resources and occasional hands-on assistance, maybe initially based in Orlais?? i don’t remember where i said Carden would have been from in Thedas, but doesn’t matter all that much, she still ends up being recruited into the most fanciful quest she’s ever had put to her.
ALIDDA — the current Alidda concept is that she joined the veil jumpers very early on, alongside Jorina and Aleksi! i don’t know if we have any idea how long the faction has been active?? but i imagine that they’ve been at it for a good while. Alidda was greatly influenced by Jorina and Aleksi’s stories of their time with the Inquisition, and tbh she probably got to visit them there once or twice?? during those years between Corypheus and the Exalted Council, and i can easily see a girly in her mid-teens getting inspired there to become something more than just another city elf getting by. i love toying with the world and recent DA media has been all over the place with its magic system, so i think it could be a fun thought that Alidda initially began her veil jumper career in a space more akin to a classic scout like her sister would have, but then somewhere along the way one of the insane magic surges of the forest resulted in her gaining some magical abilities. it fits into some of the rogue abilities in the game, plus plays off that years old joke concept of elves regaining their magic as the Veil gets toyed with that’s always been entertaining.

Okay here me out! I've had this idea cooking in my head for a while and it's taking me way too long but I'm finally doing it! Or, well... explaining it hehe! Basically, Makoto's Kirk, Byakuya's McCoy, and Kyoko's Spock. Also, had some other ideas too such as Aoi being Uhura, maybe Chihiro as Chekov though a part of my brain also thought of Komaru being in that role but that's cus I was initially thinking the other supporting cast being the survivors of the first game. The others though are like Taka as Sulu, Toko as Christine Chapel which fuck I did NOT notice the pun there. Also, I had the thought of maaaybe Leon being Scotty but that's mostly because Red hair -> Red shirt. That's it. Though for the guy who didn't last long in the canon, at least he's immune to the red shirt curse by being a main character!! ALSO, Junko as Khan. It's great and the thought of Makoto screaming Junko's name in anguish is too good to pass up! As for some thoughts on the main trio, for Makoto, it's obvious why I made him Kirk. Main man privilege. Also, any of you folks who enjoy the Makoto Harem shenanigans will especially enjoy this cus Kirk is just always around ladies so at least there's that. Not that he'd be Kirking it up. It's still Makoto after all! But still! Meanwhile, for the other two, I feel Byakuya as McCoy and Kyoko as Spock are great fits. Kyoko's known for being kinda cold and seemingly emotionless and having her arc of learning to trust people. I can just SEE the parallels of her and Spock, the balance of the analytical side of the Vulcan and the emotional side of the human. And, while it would be funny to give Byakuya the permanent pointy Spock brows, the guy's too sassy and petty to fully be a Spock. Thus, he's McCoy! He gets to bother the shit outta Kyoko in the bridge too while she dunks on him every time. Some other miscellaneous bits are that yes, Byakuya is hanging out with Toko in the med bay cus I found it funny to have him with her there. Who knows! Maybe Syo's knack with scissors can come in handy in the medical field, just like, minus the murder. Also, yes this means that Makoto is kissing Aoi at some point, that Taka is running around shirtless with a sword cus sci-fi shenanigans and that Makoto and Kyoko get to roll around in the sand as she almost tries to fucking kill him cus Amok Time being amoking and Pon Farr be like that. Also this means Makoto gets his tiddies exposed. That is if the Star Trek canon is heavily followed and all but it's just something to imagine. Plus, typing that just out there is funny to me. Don't think I have the expertise to make this an AU of my own though, probably just make silly drawings. Despite growing up with Star Trek as a kid, I was an idiot that processed none of it, only really remembering the tribbles, Kirk making a billion dramatic speeches I never understood, Spock kinda floating in space with Kirk being worried or something. Aso the movie where Spock fucking died and that other one where he hung out with some whales which is such a goofy way of describing it all. And like, I have NOOO clue what the overlap between a Danganronpa fan and a freaking Star Trek fan is. Like, I'm kinda the case study but also I have no clue at all!

I was so excited to take this history of black cinema course and learn about all the things the other film courses ignore or leave out regarding film history because it focuses on black people and their very significant impact on Hollywood and film in general, but so far all we've had is white speaker after white speaker talking about how smart and great they are for knowing that black people were involved in film too, talking about their podcasts and the books they're writing on the subject, and I'm wondering how is it that I'm paying so much money for schooling and these speakers and professors are the best they could afford.
