I went on Twitter for like the first time (what a mistake) and saw again and again people complaining about how Nuzi is a pro-ship, Uzi is just a teen, N is an adult, yadda yadda and it gets so tiring at some point.

"Uzi said herself that she's a teenager!"

Yes, she did. But teens can range from the ages of 13-20. It is a wide spectrum that is thankfully narrowed down by episode 3 when it is revealed that all classmates in her class are around the ages of 18-20. There's nobody younger than 18, meaning that it's highly unlikely that Uzi is 17 and even more unlikely that she's 16. She has to be around the ages of 18-20.

"But Uzi does to highschool, which only teens between the ages of 15-17 go to!"

That is if you assume that the drones only adopted the American school system. However, we've got a drone that only speaks Russian and a manuel for drone parents that is translated in French. In Germany, adults over the age of 18 can visit highschools. Heck, I'm 19 and currently in my 12th year of highschool. I'll be 20 in my final years where my prom will happen too, which, again, indicated that Uzi is older than what everyone assumes.

"How come Uzi is older than 18 if there are parent-teacher conferences?"

Again, my school also has parent-teacher conferences, even for the students that are adults. It's an optional thing and at this point in the story, Khan wanted to somehow reconnect with Uzi again which makes sense that he visits the parent-teacher conference.

Short adults exist, I don't need to elaborate further.

"Uzi's mom died shortly after she was made. N was already an adult at that time!"

We've seen through flashbacks from Doll that her parents died while she was a teen/not a pill baby. The same could have happened to Uzi, that Nori died while she was older. Also, N already being an adult is something I wanna unpack in the next argument.

"Uzi at some point asks about her mother, indicating that she never truly knew her! This implies that Uzi was a baby when Nori died!"

Yes, N could have also killed Nori while Uzi was a baby. But guess what?

N was a "baby" too.

Bear with me.

If we really wanna go by ages of the drones, we should remember that ALL the drones aged differently. Uzi was the only one that was a pill-baby before. N, V and J weren't, they were all in adult bodies. Yet, they were all around the same age of Uzi.

The way I understand the timeline is like this;

Uzi is made. N gets rescued from the scrapyard and saved by Tessa. I'd like to assume that he only got to live a few months before being discarded, as we can see that humans act very carelessly with their drones. So, Uzi is essentially a newborn while N is around 3-5 months old.

about 2 years pass. Both N and Uzi are two-years-old. However, ONLY UZI IS A PILL BABY DRONE. N was always in the default worker drone body. He can talk, move and do a bunch of things a 2-year-old shouldn't be able to do. However, if we base age on maturity and life experiences than he's no more an adult than Uzi was. All of his capabilities are programmed, he'll literally just die if he can't do those things cause otherwise he's defective. (BTW, NOT JUSTYFING PPL THAT GO "oh, you're mature for your age" OR SHIT LIKE THAT. I'M JUST SAYING THAT IN TERMS OF MATURITY, THEY WERE MOST LIKELY ON THE SAME LEVEL)

Uzi is now 3-years-old and the diassembly drones killed Nori. It'll make sense why she doesn't remember much of Nori and ask questions about her. N is also 3-years-old and he, along with V and J, are doomed to kill Worker Drones until they finish their job and die due to overheating.

By that logic, N AND UZI ARE AROUND THE SAME AGE.

Of course we can't get a clear timeline of events as Liam said that he doesn't want to write himself into a corner. But this is the one that makes me most sense to me unless somebody manages to proof me otherwise.

N might aswell have been a pill baby this whole time and nobody would have batted an eye. Their physical bodies do not equal their mental maturity and age, those are completely seperate entities.

It was confirmed that the scirpt of Murder Drones was finished way back at episode 1 before the ship became even popular. Heck, Glitch posted a picture of Beau before the second episode dropped. Also, animations takes such a long time to do with lots of planing. Last minute changes are extremely risky to make and no professional studio like GLITCH would do that just to appease the fans.

I agree with the part that V should have gotten more screentime before her death.

But she wasn't killed off to make Nuzi happen.

She just went through an entire charachter arc from this drone that masks her trauma thorugh feiging apathy/joy in killing and always making decisions based on what she thought was right because she couldn't trust the people around her, not even N.

At the end, when V sacrificed herself, she finally recognized that Uzi is not CYN, she's as much as a victim as V was and that Uzi truly cares about N like she does. Her sacrifice was there to show how she finally manages to trust Uzi, even though she most likely knows how dangerous Uzi can get if she loses control. I just wished they build up towards that more cause it would have been so much better but she wasn't killed off to make Nuzi happen.

There's gonna be some bias there, man, you gotta understand that, right? Of course the mods aren't going to come out and say "Oh, yeah, we allow racist shit in our chat", and of course fans aren't gonna come out and say "Oh yeah we saw that definitely" considering overwhelming numbers of Bad's fans that I have personally seen have gone around demanding Pepito speak English and that everybody Bad talks to should speak English so he can understand and saying, quote, "Bad isn't racist! Does Bad get a ton of unwarranted hate? Sure, and it sucks. But the first step to acknowledging fandom racism is recognizing it within your own community and listening to the victims of said racism. There is a general lack of accountability among Bad's fans, especially when it comes to xenophobia and harassment, that fans from all over the world have noted in the past few weeks, and nobody is listening to these non-American fans at all. Nobody's listening to the French complaining about Bad's microaggressions towards Etoiles and Baghera, nobody's listening to Hispanic fans complaining about the fandom's microaggressions towards Pepito and Roier, and absolutely nobody listens to Brazilian fans complaining about the fandom's long history of actual, genuine aggressions towards Brazilian content creators and fans alike. Food fantasy diversity issue

Gotta put the word. I'm mad.

Food fantasy isn't the worst game about diversity and skin color... I know but.

It isn't the game with the best rep AT ALL.

You know, I love this game, I love the lore. But this doesn't mean I should be boot licking everything. I have the right to criticize and ask for improvement.

Let's start with the first issue. Skin color. The game of course has more east Asian and European food so it's natural that white skinned characters are the majority. However I noticed that more than half the design of the supposedly more tan or melanined characters are pale or ashey asf. I swear I know they are darker than the white white, but damn I'm as tan as them but I'm actually not tan and I'm white skinned. Artists, please stop being scared to color your character's skin with actual COLOR. Also almost all of them are white haired for some reason. I won't lie about the design some white haired were peak ( Ganache, Reuben, Tomahawk) but a lot of them only have white hair to make their skin appear darker. Also btw the excuse "yeah but you know that not all people of this country are dark skinned" is invalid. Ganache and Reuben are respectively French and United-Statizen. Both these countries are mainly white. So heh.

Second issue, the orientalism. When I see the dark skinned characters and especially the Middle East food souls, they are often portrayed wearing revealing clothes. If you do some research, it's very weird with their culture. "Yeah but the white characters also wear revealing clothes" Que Neni. If you compare the ratio, obviously dark skinned or just the tan ones are a lot more "fetishized". Always revealing their belly and for what ? Nothing because their outfits are based on fantasm and stereotyped views (belly dancer) about what the middle east looks like not the real traditional clothes which is a shame for a game about food diversity. Food eaten in Muslim countries for Ramadan wearing these ....

And third issue. A lot of them just don't have ethnic physical features. I can understand that this clashes with the artist's art style but I swear it's not that difficult to draw curly and kinky hair. You know it's not that hard to download brush on CSP. Brushes that help you to draw afro hair style.

This food IS FROM ZAMBIA but man looks like a Middle East/American native. Not African from Zambia.

okay this is a little bit embarrassing because this part will have a lot less detail since I'm both uneducated and lazy when it comes to the French Revolution SFHKSJFHSKJ also the details about lafayette in this section are highkey boring sooo here's pt. 5 and lets get moving

In Between Revolutions

Lafayette returned home from the war in December 1781, but no one really cared because Marie Antoinette had just given birth to her first son, so they were like. "ok! anyway" when they saw him.

He didn't spend very long in France, and he returned to America to do a small little tour of the states in 1784. He stayed at Mount Vernon for a little while, which would be the last time he ever saw his adoptive father, George Washington.

I'm going to talk about slavery now. Lafayette never commented on slavery at Mount Vernon, mostly due to his reverence of Washington, however Lafayette was proactive in abolitionism. He created his own plan to purchase an island plantation where the enslaved people would work to earn pay and be able to buy their own freedoms. He and Adrienne both arranged for education programs and career options for the enslaved people so that they would be well-adjusted to society by the time they were awarded their freedom. However, property seizures during the French Revolution would prevent them from ever being freed. So, you could say Lafayette owned slaves, but you have to consider that the only enslaved people he ever purchased were for this specific project.

Also, I'm begging you to look into James Lafayette and Peter Ostiquette (Otchikeita) because I don't have time to get into their stories here but they are really interesting POC figures in early US history. send me an ask if you want, i just don't have enough patience to do the research along with all this lafayette shit

While he was in America, he helped negotiate a treaty with the Six Nations/Iroquois with James Madison, since he already had particularly good relations with the Oneida tribe. The Oneidas gave him the name Kayewla, which was the name of one of their former warriors.

He returned to France after his short visit and helped negotiate trade agreements between his mother country and the United States along with Thomas Jefferson. Technically on paper, Lafayette was only supposed to have an advisory role in these international affairs, but he just. started doing it. and this pissed off a special someone.

That special someone was, of course, John fucking "I'm a bitch to everyone and wonder why they don't like me" Adams. Btw Lafayette did NOTHING WRONG to him, he was just butthurt. Lafayette would continue to press for an official representative of France (which wasn't allowed since he was allied to both France and America) while John Adams was fired <3

Lafayette was also a little involved in the Society of Cincinnati controversy, but he followed Washington's lead by not getting too involved. He was also a part of the Republic of Letters and the American Philosophical Society. With all that along with being a Freemason, he was basically admitting to being in the Illuminati

French Pre-Revolution

When Lafayette reestablished himself in Paris, he was a much richer, much more confident guy, which allowed for all kinds of rich guy shenanigans. These shenanigans included, two affairs, being a karen, getting into debt, and politics! Let's talk about the politics part, because I don't get paid enough to talk about all of it.

Lafayette was elected to the Second Estate of the Assembly of Notables, which has a french name thats almost exactly the same but I'm too lazy to type accents. He had very ambitious goals that aligned with his very liberal morals, which caused him to be closely allied with the men of the Third Estate aka the rich poor people.

Lafayette would end up having a crucial role in the writing of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, and a more minor role in organizing the Constitution, since he was too busy with the actual revolution!

The French Revolution Revolution

I just want to preface that, in the French Revolution, Lafayette was considered one of the leaders of the moderate party. "But pub-lius, I thought he was super radical because of his behavior during the American Revolution!" Yeah, well, little richie, you're fucking wrong. There are always bigger fish and there are always more liberal white men. Lafayette would get out-liberaled and out-conservatived by almost everyone during the Revolution, and that's why he didn't last. Basically. Pretty much.

Lafayette was named Commander of the National Guard in 178 which made his name even longer by the National Assembly, which was the first Revolutionary French government! There would be fifty million fucking more governments from now until 1792 i swear to fucking god-

If I sound stress to you, it's because this is literally the most stressful part of Lafayette's life, and actually I don't think it gets more stressful than this. I'd say Lafayette was more stressed as Commander of the NG than Washington was as Commander of the Continental Army. He was basically always running back and forth across Paris, putting down rebellions, and starting massacres because he's stupid, and organizing the Fête de Fédération, and constantly being threatened with lampposts and pikes. It stresses me out just reading about that.

After the more liberal white men took over the French government in 1792, Lafayette fled the country expecting more friendly faces outside France's borders. He was fucking wrong, he got arrested by Austrians immediately. He remained in prison for like five years or something.

What had happen was Lafayette was viewed by the powers of Europe as the motherfucker responsible for bringing the revolution to France, and they decided they needed to take the bitch out back, except not really, they just took his clothes and put him in a dirty cell for a while. Eventually, Adrienne and the girls joined him, while Georges Washington de Lafayette escaped to America to live with Alexander Hamilton. Which that is just a really American thing to happen.

This imprisonment had severe consequences for Adrienne, who would be permanently injured by the illness she and the others suffered while in prison, which would eventually cause her death in 1807, but we're not done with her yet.

Womp Womp Napoleon is in charge, and he doesn't like Lafayette, because Lafayette said he was a dictator, and that hurt his feelings, so he exiled Lafayette and his son and sons in law. So, while Lafayette was gardening in exile, Adrienne stepped up to the mother fucking plate and went into Paris every day to absolutely girlboss her way into reclaiming her family's citizenships and fortunes and KICKED ABSOLUTE ASS YOU GO GIRL I LOVE YOU.

Also I'm fairly sure it was during this time that Lafayette fucked up his leg by slipping on ice and breaking it and then it was improperly treated so his hip. rotted???? and he was in severe pain for the rest of his life. Nice going, fuckface.

Retirement and DEATH :'(

Lafayette did manage to scrap together a bit of a career after reentering France. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies and had minor political roles along with his son, but he was more like an antique vase at this point.

He did go on a tour in 1824 and I highly recommend checking out The Lafayette Trail, where they track every place he went during this Farewell Tour!! It's so cool and I love them. I looked into if and when Lafayette came to Louisiana, and found out his fucking ship sunk on his way here FKSJFHSJ so he was stranded in the Mississippi river for a little bit which is silly.

While Lafayette was managing his estate, La Grange, he made many young friends, to whom he served as a mentor. In return, they kept him appraised of all the political and scientific developments which he was very interested in. La Grange is very interesting, since it was largely based on Mount Vernon, which if I think about that too much I'll cry.

And then... Lafayette died on May 20, 1834 at... 4:20 am. Historians won't tell you that. They don't want you to know that he died at 4:20. But I'll tell you. I'm a beacon of truth.

Also, by the way, he died of fucking pneumonia. And I'm not judging him for dying of pneumonia, I almost died of pneumonia, but i am ABSOLUTELY judging him for GETTING pneumonia. He got pneumonia from being outside in the rain repeatedly and refusing to go inside or take shelter. I got it from the same thing but I was like TEN YEARS OLD AND IT WAS HALLOWEEN, and he was a GROWN MAN WHO JUST NEEDED AN OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE. So, anyway, yeah, he's fucking dead.

this last half of his life is very rushed, I admit, but things should go a bit better with the last person on our list here. Which, by the way, prepare your ass for that. He's rapidly approaching.

Maxwell lore please holds out plate like a starved Victorian child

OC Lore Pt. 4

I'll give some lore on Maxwell before how he is now!

Maxwell is a character apart of my Comic series called The Strangest Worlds. The side story he's in is called "Poppies of War".

Maxwell is a Brazilian minute man during the American Revolution during the 1770/1780s. Him and his friends, (Left to right) Northern, Jackson, Cicero, and Stefan...bonus for Jackson's dog Angel

He has many bullet and scar marks from many fights. Definitely the nurses were very familiar of him lol.

His mama and papa were both from Brazil but moved to Long Island close to New York due to issues with Portugal on Brazilian land.

However during that time in Long Island, the British had rule over that land, and when Maxwell's dad joined the American army and left for a while (to join the Americans or aka "rebels" as the British called them), Maxwell was very defensive of his mom (because in some areas, British soldiers would sleep in people's houses and were taken care of by the citizens).

A fight then resulted between Maxwell and a British Major, named Hans Hawkeye (another oc of mine) and a couple other officers, resulting in Maxwell getting jailed, but not hanged.

Him and is mother, with the permission of his father (before he died), went to another area that was own by the Americans...a fictional place called "Vulkanin". This place is owned or known to the famous Vulkan bloodline. Which also where he met his friends and other friends such as Astron, Selene, and Sternal Vulkan (plus their male calico cat Aster). And others such as Uaman and Yaasmine

During the war, he gets with Northern D'Rose, the trans french major yoohoo!!!/pos as Northern confesses he loves Maxwell. Later on when Northern accidentally gets killed and turned into a ghost by Hans (FUCK YOU HANS I'M GLAD YOU DIE IN THIS STORY FUCK YOU (this is my own oc btw HDNSKS)).

Later on he married Sternal (cus she loves him too and has a similar personality to Northern), he has 3 kids with her. Later on in his life, Initially he was going to fight during 1822 for Brazil's independence agaisnt Portugal, but issues resulted in his health from all those years of bullet marks unfortunately led him to health issues.

When he dies (like most of my historical characters), he dies last out of all his friend group, with a big smile cus he knows he completed his life to the fullest. :)

Would you say that for you as an Italian that it's easy to understand other romance languages? Which ones are easier to get? Is there one that reading is easier to get than listening (or the opposite)? Do they sound weird/ugly/beautiful in your opinion? Do you think you could hold a conversation with someone where you speak Italian and they speak another romance language?

Ciao! I think the level of understanding depends on the specific Region/area an Italian is born in and on the "ear" a person has in relation to other languages. It's difficult to speak for everyone. Seen that you're asking me, I'm gonna share my personal experience but having studied some of those languages, I probably cannot be a good source for your curiosity (from what I get, you'd like to know as if I hadn't). :)

I have been born in an area in which both Spanish and French have been in control of, so the dialect (not just the Regional language, but my specific hometown version) has influences of both languages, French in particular. My ear has been pretty used to French sounds since when I was born (this dialect is spoken in my family), + my mother studied French (she translated me stuff at times) and I studied French as well in school (middle school) for 3 years. Ofc now I still understand French pretty well (even after having not practiced it for... years, ages prob.): I might not have all the vocabs I would like to have in my mind, I might have forgotten even some grammar rules (which prob makes it a bit more complicated for me to speak correctly), but the basics are still with me and I could survive especially by speaking it (I might wonder at least about accents for some written words, e.g.).

Now Spanish. Friends, don't hate me but Spanish is somewhat similar to Italian: we often say "you only need to add an s at the end of each word" jokingly (ofc that's not true, but it's true that we share some words and... something else too). I have been studying Spanish on my own for a while in the past and I admit, despite never having paid attention to verbs' conjugations, I still could manage to write with some online friends and basically make little to no mistake... I followed "the sound". When it comes to spoken Spanish, I still get basically everything, despite again I haven't really been practicing too much recently and I might have forgotten some vocabs. At first it only required me to practice listening a lot and form a good vocabulary through interviews and other stuff, and then I simply tried writing (and speaking a bit). Btw as mentioned in the past, my ear is a little more used to South American Spanish, but I get Spain's as well. Ofc I am referring only to "standard" Spanish here, if that is a thing: if you wanted to talk with me in e.g. Catalàn, I might get something but probably be less accurate (Idk, we can try). Same thing goes for French ofc! I meant only "standard" French, no Regional: listening to the ESC last year for example, I really couldn't get the song's lyrics too in detail (or maybe at all lol).

As for Portuguese, again I have studied it a little: at first I only could get a few words and understand some others from sentence's general meaning (spoken Portuguese was a little more intricate despite almost sounds as a couple of our Regional languages mixed together -jk), but then after understanding the sound, I started getting a little more also in the spoken language. I don't have a huge vocabulary so I'm still pretty behind when it comes to understanding, writing and speaking it (speaking always comes a little bit more difficult to me: I need to have a good amount of vocabs to start). I mean in both in Brazilian's and Portugal's ones (focused a little more on Brazilian's tbh). But I still can get something here and there, if people speak more slowly.

When it comes to Romanian, I can understand some words in their written form; not sure as for the spoken one cause I have never had the chance to try speaking/listening to it (at least paying attention to it) despite my interactions with some Romanians.

Going back to Regional languages, even just Italians' are way too different in how they're formed... I cannot get everything people say, especially when they speak fast. And especially when it comes to Regional languages that are far from the one/s I have been in contact with the most, like those from the center/south or in the north-east, or that use different languages influences (Ladino, Patois... e.g. in Patois I understand counting as it's basically in French). It depends on what they say, if I have already heard that or not. If I know the word's meaning or not (or if I can at least guess it from the rest of the sentence: but many times it's hard even to do so).

Now, I know there are other Romance languages I haven't mentioned but understanding them, for me, depends on the sounds, my vocabulary knowledge, how the sentence is buildt and if I can relate them somehow to Latin (which I studied as well for 5.5 years in school so maybe it helps me too)? To me, every language sounds beautiful honestly, exactly because it has its own sounds and rules that make it different from another. And not just Romance ones.

As for holding a convo with someone speaking another language (supposing that I don't know it, not even by chance)... Idk, probably only a basic convo? I guess I might end up using gestures or sth to help the communication at a certain point. The only way to know is to try, any volunteer? :)

I forgot: in general you read at your own pace so prob reading is easier than listening to a native who speaks fast, no matter the language, especially in the beginning. But it's of help in keep practicing listening in order to get to their level.

The dub thing is especially gratting because English is the standard on this website, almost as much as the US are. Which is also the case outside of Tumblr. So it's annoying to have to justify why we might prefer another dub, especially one that is in the language of the culture that is being portrayed. I'm French and I personnaly enjoy the English dub as well, each dub has its strength and weakness, but it's annoying to pull the card of feeling left out... in an US-centric website.

It's especially annoying because as far as I've seen (and maybe I haven't seen everyone), any time we're saying we prefer the French dub we put tons of disclaimer to say that there's nothing wrong with enjoying the English dub. Yet they still feel like we're personally attacking them for saying we like the French dub better (that mind you is the one of the show) and I seriously don't get why

I think it's especially upsetting to me because here I am, talking about a French show in English, nicely giving some of my time to highlight cultural aspects people might not be aware of and going out of my way to give information to those who need them, always offering translations when an episode drops in French and always answering people who ask me for specific translations to compare to the English dub. I do all of that for free, and I always try to make it clear that not knowing something cultural is fine, and make sure people feel at ease over it, etc.

I even got an ask once where someone felt annoyed by French dub lovers and was seeking validation for enjoying the English cause they started to hate the French dub because of that that - and it's like you say! I'm FRENCH. I SHOULDN'T have to justify why I prefer the French dub and I SHOULDN'T have to listen to people telling me they're starting to hate the French dub because of those who prefer it, yet I am answering it kindly because I don't have a reason not to

And the thing is? Despite all of these efforts, we have to coddle people constantly by telling everyone it's ok to make cultural mistakes if you don't know, it's ok to prefer the English dub because it's your language, but the second you say "btw here is a common mistake, now that you're aware of it please try to take it into account" or "I prefer the French dub because [highlight a list of things as to why it retranscribes the culture and the vibe the show wants to give better]", people get on their high horses and feel personally attacked as if they had dubbed the cartoon themselves. (also true story, I got asks last year of an American person telling me it was ok to americanise the show in fics and all because American kids needed to identify with the characters cause they didn't have shows they could use to identify with - and this after someone asked me about common cultural mistakes in fics. I wish I was joking but I'm not)

One of the problem I find in this discourse is that some of us who can speak both French and English and therefore able to feel the differences of vibes more clearly, and able to pick on on translations differences, get a big "fuck you for saying it". The English dub is the most commonly watched, and it's a French show. Let us highlight some differences in peace and how it might bring more insights on some scenes or some characters (sidenote, but I learnt recently that Astruc was present during the recording of the French dub, therefore able to tell the VA more accurately how he'd want them to deliver the lines: the French dub will be the closest to what the writers intend in terms of lines delivery and it's a fact, it doesn't mean the English one is bad, but the French will be more accurate). We're not even asking you to watch it in French: look, we're giving you for free information about differences in dubs that you might find interesting and we're taking the time to do that because we are lucky enough to be able to pick up on these things. We're not insulting you. We're not even purists who just say "watch it in original language" for the sake of it, we're able to tell the difference. Yet that's what offend people, and it's frankly annoying. We're not even saying the ML English dub sucks at all, and there are things that are nicer in it (Marinette looking at Chat Noir memes videos I'm looking at you) that we don't find in the French. Each dub has its own little things that make it special

Anyway, I derailed but it's like you say, we're on a US-centric website on a US-centric fandom despite it being a French show. Lots of people from other countries feel left out already on lots of things because not everyone is fluent in English, but apparently the second we say a dub who isn't the English one is better, that makes the Americans feel left out and now it becomes a problem I guess

Wow, that’s a lot of stuff I didn’t even know about!! Thanks for the ask Anon, I’ll try to go through them but, as I said, there’s some stuff I didn’t know.

1) I honestly didn’t know about Joan Pujol prior to your ask. Like I kinda remembered knowing there were some Spaniards in the Landing of Normandy but really didn’t know much else. That’s amazing, honestly!!! Like, I knew there were some Spaniard divisions within the French (and I think the Soviet?) armies and some of them were in concentration camps (they mostly went to Mauthausen) but yeah, didn’t know about the guy.  

Btw, I just found this amazing photo during the liberation of Mauthausen, the banner is in Spanish and it reads “The antifascist Spaniards salute the forces of liberation”.

2) Yeah, Blas de Lezo is kinda legend here, a true icon lol

3) Also didn’t know that, honestly (maybe cause I’m not really into military stuff?) Sounds like an interesting guy!

4) Also didn’t know about Michael Servetus, and I wish I knew cause he was awesome. Like, discovering the function of the circulatory system in the 1500s??? What a man!! Maybe we didn’t learn about him cause when we study the Reinassance we typically focus on Italy.

5) Yeah, Gregorio Marañón, one of the key players in the “Silver Age” of Spanish culture (and in this case, also science)!!! Also a metro station in Madrid hehe, they have this big panel with his face and info about him inside.

6) Juan de la Cierva is also pretty known, the first Spaniard to build a functioning aircraft! Also he was the inventor of the first helicopter in 1920 :)

7) And finally, my two people, Góngora and Quevedo. They were two poets during the Golden Age of Spanish culture, and everybody knows about how they bickered and fooled with each other, mostly Quevedo with Góngora tbh. We all learn the beginning of a mockering poem Quevedo write to Góngora “érase una vez un hombre a una nariz pegado...” that roughly translates to “once upon a time, there was a man stuck to a nose”. Nowadays there some twitter account of Quevedo  and Góngora that continuously bicker and fool with each  other. Like, here are some posts:

I'm just curious cuz I just heard how hard converting is in comparison to other religions. Sorry, took time to answer, I'm in Normandy on vacations with friends ahah \o/

Yup, I converted to judaism (reform) ! And indeed, it's 'harder' though i would rather say it just takes more time.

Basically, you have to meet a rabbi, they have to accept you, then you take judaism courses (that's how it was called in my synagogue), hebrew classes (in my synagogue, anyway), go to your synaogue on shabbat, to the religious celebrations, etc living step by step a jewish life ! Then, in my case, a year and a half later, I had to take a test about what I knew about judaism. Then, it was the beit din : several rabbis asked me why i wanted to convert, asking me to say a benediction by heart. It went well :) so next step is the mikveh : an ritual immersion in water.

Why did i do it? I've always felt drawn to judaism, the way rabbis (and not only rabbis) study the Torah, discuss it, argue about it... i'm a book nerd, alright, i was a literary student for so long, and i want to be a french teacher. But literary studies are sometimes frustrating, it feels too... theorical, too much stuck in universities, while judaism associates studies and actions. We study the Torah, and we use this knowledge to live everyday, to make the world better. It feels right. My favorite holiday is Shavouot - a night to study, as a group, as a community.

I would say it's the main reason + hebrew fascinates me as a language, its strenght, the way it works etc. It feels good while praying. Btw, after conversion, i decided to take liturgy courses at my synagogue, and we study the prayers, biblical hebrew etc

THEN about judaism in France : I converted reform, but in France, it's mostly orthodox. BUT the chief rabbi of the Consistoire (basically the institution who are supposed to organise judaism in France -thanks to Napoleon yikes), while being an orthodox rabbi, is way more open to reform judaism than his predecessors + he tries to accept more lgbt+ members, so there's hope !

French jews are also mostly sephardic - when you see judaism and jewish characters in american movies then in France, there's a difference! There're also ashkenazi jews obviously, people who are both, lot of different people! I love it that way, it allows discussions about different ways to practice, different ways of singing the same thing, different foods, different traditions etc.

There's antisemitism in France - even before converting, I saw it in my own family, in my city... There was the attack on the Hyper Cacher, at the jewish school in Toulouse, Mireille Knoll, tags on the walls, and a lot more. We can't deny it, though i do think the way it's presented outside of France seems to be.... somewhat alarmist, like as it was IMPOSSIBLE to live in France as a french jew. And this alarmist point of view goes well with 'well french jews should just leave', thanks, no thanks. Netanyahu himself told us we should go to Israel instead :) :) :)

+ french politicians use antisemitism to attack muslims, which is not helping at all obviously, clever way to put two communities against each other.

It's not good, and I don't trust french politicians one bit to fix this (btw french catholics politicians mostly.......... a non-catholic french president??? lol) but. It's not hell, not everywhere, not always. It should be way better than it is, and I hope it will be. But people around me would rather stay here anyway.

Cruising to the end!

This cruise was a last last minute decision, encouraged by my friend Jas in Trini (and some of my friends back home). I'd cruised before, but never solo. Let alone solo in a foreign country! The over night ferry cruises to get to Germany last month don't count..

Any way turns out cruising Americans love that Aussie accent to.. somehow I met this amazing couple from Maryland on the first night. We clicked and ended up spending at least part of each evening together. Great minds think alike (and have the same drink/bar tastes)...

This cruise was a 7 night Eastern Carribean adventure taking in 3 ports out of Fort Lauderdale.

Sint Maartens / St Martins island was amazing. It blows my mind that such a tiny place is literally split in two. France owns the 53km sq northern side of the island where it's known Saint Martin with its capital Marigot. This area is wholly part of France, and as such they are part of the European Union. The currency is euro (although mist places will also accepr US dollars) and the people speak French as well as English.

St Maartens, on the Southern Dutch side with its capital of Phillipsburg is the smaller portion of the island at 34km sq. Where it's small in stature is made up by controlling the largest port and being able to accommodate the large cruise ships. This section is technically one of four constituemt countries that form part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Here they currently accept the Netherlands Antillean guilder (this is changing soon!) as well as US dollars.

The island itself was discovered in 1493 by Christopher Colombus, and at one stage was major producer of salt via a multitude of salt ponds some of which are still visible (but no longer used) today. The division between the 2 countries dates back to 1648, where the Dutch and the French finally agreed to split the territory via signing the treaty of Concordia. As you go from one side to the other it's clear how much emphasis on looking after the country has been placed by their respective governing bodies. Fun fact - as small as it is, it is still an international call to call from one side to the other! Oh, and the main airport on the French side is the one where they fly over you on the beach and you have to hang on to the fence to stop blowing away...

I did a bus tour to both sides of the island taking in the crazy iguanas in trees... seriously those things were huge and everywhere! I then spent the remainder of my day in Phillipsburg exploring it's gorgeous little streets and architecture, hanging on the fabulous beach, drinking beer and eating jerk chicken...I like to call that 'full immersion '😁

Then we were off to overnight to our next stop. San Juan, Puerto Rico. This one was an oddly short stop, which I found out later may have been due to some very high port costs (apparently US port areas charge steep fees based on time in port making it less cost effective to stay longer). Anyway we technically had about 6 hrs in port. After a leisurely start that saw me trying to convince myself to get off the boat, I wandered ashore with half a plan and ended up walking around the old town and city area for a good 2.5 hrs. Puerto Rico is classed as a US territory, so rather than being governed wholly by the US and it's constitution, it's kind of like the US over sees what goes on but the country govern themselves and follow parts of the US constitution. It's really complicated to explain fully, so go look it up and it'll make more sense! Anyway the city of San Juan was founded by Spanish colonists in 1521. The city lays claim to some of the most extensive preserved examples of Spanish coastal fortifications, as well as some amazing historical buildings. You all know how much I love a good fort, and here they were dotted along the cliffs of the city. Fort San Felipe Del Moro, Fort San Cristobal and La Fortaleza. No, I did not climb all over them... I wandered to each of them and marvelled at he ingenuity, but refrained from needing to climb to the top (I'm blaming time constraints ...🤣) anyway the gorgeous Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery, a colonial era cemetery dating from 1863 is located just outside the walls of Fort San Felipe Del Moro and together the two form a breathtaking break in the skyline to the shore. Luckily for me a tourist from one if the tours warned me to get off the wall overlooking the ceremony as apparently you get a 500 USD fine for standing on it! No signs telling you that, so hey, dodged a bullet there! Later back on the ship, I overheard some fellow passengers stating they thought San Juan was a poor and dirty city. I guess all this travel has allowed me to see past that without realising. I thought it had a charm about it, (some of its residents thought they had charm too - queue guy trying to chat me up as he drove next to me in his car...🤣). It wasn't any dirtier than any other city I've visited (in fact there have been a hack of alot of places that were way worse, as were parts of LA - which I was yet to see) It's well known the country is struggling immensely with corruption and the vast divide in income for its citizens. The people I encountered were well versed in Touristing (again, like every where!) I really liked my time here, and would have liked longer in order to have been able to venture out of the city to see some of the natural wonders this country possesses.

Off overnight again, this time to the port of Labadee, a resort port on the island of Haiti that is owned by the cruise ship company. What a perfect Carribean stop, beaches, bbq, cocktails, sun and the glorious water of the Caribbean. I had only intended a multi beach swim /lunch/ then back on the ship stop, but ended up meeting a lovely young couple of newlyweds from Florida who wanted to spend the day 'chatting with the Aussie cause your accent is amazing'. 😂 hey I learned alot more about America and the music in Nashville (the husband was originally from there), and found out what 'dip ' is so it was a win-win. Btw 'dip' is like a tobacco but you don't chew it you stick it inside your bottom lip and then spit every now and then... kinda gross, but hey whatever floats ya boat!

Haiti outside of the resort area is a mess. A real mess. It's a country in financial crisis, with an unstable government and a collapsing infrastructure struggling to cope with the lawlessness of some of its inhabitants. I didn't do any of the tours as they didn't leave the safety of the resort bubble, so you weren't seeing the 'real' Haiti. I did end up buying a bracelet from a local artist and somehow being given 2 necklaces by another two artists...don't ask me what happened but to my relief, having them on seemed to deter other hardy salesmen. The people of Haiti still gain an income from having the ships come in, so for that I was grateful. It's not enough to fix their problems though....

All too soon we were back on board and off for our last night at sea, and for me, off to LA. Rather than doing the 6hr or so worth of flights followed by the big one back to Aus, I'd opted to fly to LA and spend one night there, leaving late the next evening. Synchronicity saw me receive the email for my free night of accomodation that I'd earnt earlier at one of the chain hotels in the US. This meant my last night was a freebie, go me! I got in late the night before, so literally had a day in LA. Jumped a tour that took me out to Marina Del Ray, Little Venice, Venice Beach, Santa Monica pier, Hollywood, the walk of fame, Mann's theatre... all the biggies! As much as I'd have liked to do the studio tours, no time. I will say I was underwhelmed by most of what so saw. Maybe I have been awed by too many things, but I thought LA was not worth the hype. The Hollywood walk of fame needed a bloody good clean, Venice Beach was just a beach with a whole lot of over priced tourist traps... I dunno. I'm hoping this isn't all of the West Coast because I was intending to go back and make it happen... (once I can convince someone to join me and share driving cause this one needs a co - pilot!)😁

I finally have to go back to Australia and make a decision about my job, where I'm going to live...pretty much have to go back and adult again (gosh darn it!).

How much has this adventure changed me? Immeasurably. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to do this. I am so proud of who I am and what I've achieved. Am I glad I did it - hell yeah! Would I change anything? Hell no! Everything that has happened, happened for a reason, changing it would change where I am now. I have learnt some amazing things about travelling, hints and tricks for booking places, how transport works in different countries, whether it's cheaper to buy tickets early/last minute. Logistical lessons most definitely. What I've learnt about me, could fill a book....

If I could encourage one person to take the step and travel solo and feel this joy and strength...even the smallest step, the shortest of time..just do it.

The people I have met have added something to each stage of my journey. No matter how small our interaction. For that I want to say a massive "Thank you", to each and every one of you. You have given me so much more than you would ever know or understand.

This isn't the end. It's only the beginning. There's a whole lot more of the world out there that I'm itching to explore ... I'll have to do it in pieces though as I've yet to discover the magic formula to allow me to continue to finance myself to keep travelling...

Where to next? Not sure yet... choice is an amazing luxury! Some of my trips I'll need a co-pilot to make it easier so that in itself will take time. Not sure how many people could handle travelling with me!!😉
