hello...what is this "eidolon playtest". i thought it was perhaps some kind of MTG since you like that and "playtest" but then i keep seeing like.....random character art. is this a tabletop thing. is it mtg and i just dont understand mtg. i know i can probably google this but jt seems like something you wnjoy and id like to hear you talk about it :^)

eidolon playtest is an actual play series in which the creators of the ttrpg 'eidolon: become your best self' and their friends -- as the name implies -- playtest aforementioned TTRPG. it has a pretty interesting format in which the same GM runs two separate campaigns for two different parties which slowly become more and more intertwined until they start crossing over directly. so far they have two pairs of campaigns finished, eidolon POP and ROCK (seasons 1 & 2) and eidolon SKA and DISCO (seasons 3 & 4), and season 5 (eidolon VGM and EDM) currently ongoing. they also have a couple of short mini-campaigns of 3-4 sessions each, which i'm not going to list all of because there's a lot.

eidolon playtest is really good for so many reasons i can't possibly provide a comprehensive account but here's some:

the tables are really, really good at taking something and running with it. the number of goofy, seemingly one-off jokes that get called back to and built up and end up becoming extremely serious and plot-critical has to be in the double digits by now

there is very much a lack of... for want of a better word 'preciousness' to the play -- like, one of the things i really don't like about dimension 20 is that because there is an entire production staff making all these little minis and sets, right, there is an investment and a need to put the money in front of the camera, it's basically impossible for e.g. combat encounters to be skipped or for anything to go too 'off the rails'. meanwhile in eidolon everyone will get excited when someone pulls a fucking insane plan out of nowhere that radically reshapes an encoutner, or when someone rolls/draws badly and something awful happens -- i fucking love that kind of play, where everyone is excited to see cool shit happen whether it's bad or good, and the eidolon playtest team do it really well

the characters are really good and bounce off each other really well. something i commented recently is that i love diska for the fact thaqt nonoe of the players are afraid to have their character just be a huge cunt sometimes. every campaign has some amount of interpersonal drama and it always seems like the players are really excited to have it, too. there are conflicts, some get resolved, some don't, some spiral into irreconcilable differences, some pave the way for extremely close bonds.

eidolon, the system (especially the 2e version that's used for diska onwards) is a great system which encourages fun and cool things to happen. every character has a jojo-style extremely specific power, which means that fights aren't boring slogs of people rolling dice (i hate combat in actual plays that use wargames, lol, even games with well-balanced combat systems that are fun to play often make horrible audio) but instead wacky and consistently dramatic encounters where the players make clever and creative use of their powers to take on a freak-of-the-week

the cast is just really damn good! i mentioned how the characters on all the shows have ineresting and complex dynamics, but even apart from that there's just so many characters on this show that i'm genuinely attached too, so many memorable and interesting pcs and npcs.

the show is funny as fuck!! constant laugh out loud bits throughout every campaign, often alongside the extremely heartfelt or dramatic ones. i've been refernecing a bit from eidolon disco so much recently it's been driving oen of my gfs crazy (you can buy rat poison for free at the store)

i, yknow, go back and forth on whether to mention this when recommending it bc i'm sure that the eidolon playtest folks don't, like, want to be pigeonholed as A Trans Podcast or whatever, but, like, when it feels like every AP podcast that advertises itself or is advertised as 'super queer' is like, two cis gay people and maybe one transmasc if you're lucky at an otherwise super cishet table -- it is such a breath of fresh air to listen to an actual play with a legit preponderance of transfem and nonbinary players playing all kinds of trans and queer characters.

Ok yay I'm back from my vacation yipeeeeeee. I started this drawing of Keiki before I left and I was half considering just giving up on it.... until I did a short study of facial planes and then got motivated to work on this again! I'm glad I didn't give up on it though, as I'm actually really happy with this one!

Artist's Notes;

So as I mentioned in my last post about Touhou 17, I wanted to finish this by the game's five year anniversary but with how progress was going I didn't want to rush this so I decided to take a long break from it. Mainly because of the face. For a while now I was kind of feeling like I was stagnating with my drawings, not really in the clothing but in the bodies. There was something about the way I was rendering them that I just wasn't happy with, and after talking with someone else about this issue, I realized that the reason I felt this way was because the faces were too flat and didn't match the rest of the drawing and that I needed to find a way to make the rendering of the face feel consistent with everything else. So after doing a short study of the plains of the face (I used this 3D head model from art station as a reference for my short study, please go give this person some love as they are a lifesaver) I went back into this drawing and applied what I learned here. It was only after that that I finally became motivated to finish the piece, and while it started off as just a simple character sketch like Saki and Yachie's were, the moment I added in Keiki's little fire dragon I knew I had gotten in too deep and now here we are with a full on background. OK it's not super crazy or anything, but it gets the job done and it's better than there just being an empty void behind her. It's rare moments like this when I use brushes other than the Clip Studio Default Charcoal Brush and use the Clip Studio Default Paint Brushes as well (god bless the oil paint and dry gouache clip studio brushes, they were amazing). I don't know why but painting fire has always been really fun for me, there's something oddly satisfying about it y'know? I do think that another reason for this problem was because I was drawing faces like I would in my more sketchy style that didn't mesh well with my lineless style, so I'm glad I've started remedying that.

After adding in the fire dragon I had an idea to kinda make it feel like splash art in the way the composition works... probably because I have been playing Reverse 1999 again and it has taken over my brain. I do feel like Keiki's tools get a little lost in the composition, and I didn't fully render the metal parts of them mainly because I didn't feel like they needed it, but that's just something for me to improve on later down the line.

If you guys are wondering where I went for my vacation, I went to New York and got to go to the MET and the Museum of Natural History. In both places I found Kofun period stuff and I was so happy to see it you have no idea. I remember one of the Haniwa I saw had some neat face paint under the eyes that I tried to replicate with the makeup under Keiki's eyes in my drawing, though I think I'll gave to figure out how to draw makeup on characters because this reads more like blush to me than anything. While drawing this I also looked up some references of Kofun period jewelry and really liked the stuff I found, which also meant that now she has proper Kofun earrings instead of earrings shaped like Kofun tombs. I put some of the things I referenced with a closeup of Keiki's face as well down below. I made her outfit more reminiscent of the outfit I gave her at the beginning of the year with the buttons and all, though I do want to try and draw her in some more period accurate clothing like the Haniwa I took a picture of at the Museum of Natural History. I wish I could find a way to make her handercheif look better though as I wish I made it a little bit bigger, though I think I'm saying this because I've looked at this drawing for too long lmao. Once again something to work on for when I next draw her. Also want to get better at rendering hair, as some details (like the little strands in front of her ears) kinda got unreadable due to the similarities in colour lol.

Now you may have also noticed the little cracks I added onto Keiki's face, and that's because I have fallen in love with the idea of Keiki's body being made from ceramic and that she crafted her body herself. While they aren't very visible I also tried to add some doll joints to her body, which is an idea I played around with in the past but never went to far with. I also want to get better at rendering cracks in ceramic, porcelain, etc, as I'm not sure how those read in the drawing. I also have a headcanon where the cracks in Keiki's face show up because of heightened emotions, and while Keiki is aware of this and does her best to make sure her face doesn't break off.... she will still end up with at least a few cracks during any given day, and she can often forget to repair her own body quite frequently so Mayumi has to remind her quite a lot. Mayumi even taught herself some basic sculpting techniques to help repair parts of her body that are so badly damaged to the point where Keiki can't repair them herself, i.e. if both her arms broke off, Mayumi would put them back together for her so Keiki can at least have something to repair herself with rather than nothing. I also like to imagine that if Keiki created her own body, if you took a look at Keiki from the beginning of her life she would look completely different compared to now.

BTW If you guys are wondering what a very very angry Keiki looks like....ok in order for this to make sense have any of you read volume 11 of Land of The Lustrous? Am I bringing back some memories for those of you that have? Ok good, glad we all got that mental image brewing in our minds, I'll probably draw a version of Keiki that is somewhat inspired by that one day as it's an idea I've had for a little while now. And to those who haven't gotten to that volume yet and are confused.... don't worry about it, just keep reading :)

Today I feel like Spirit really wants to talk about you and your work. I heard something about planting roots, could be a literal 9-5 job we're talking about or even a relationship for some of you (I'm picking up on a masculine here), but I'm feeling like it might not be the way you want to to be right now, you're not seeing the results of all of your hard work but the Nine of Pentacles talks about having to climb that last mountain before you can reach the top and rest. This energy here is expressing though we may be so tired and want to give up it's very important you look back and see how far you've come in any given situation, how much you've progressed with maybe in a job, or something that really matters to you like finishing a book or even how much progress you've made in a relationship as well. (My phone buzzed as confirmation, I feel like there's a little bit about love in this reading which is crazy because I'm trying so hard to be diverse and not talk about romance so much but other forms of love too lol). Overall I'm getting don't give up, I know it's a struggle but sometimes it's good to sit back, reflect and remember our "Why". We just need that extra push of motivation, whatever motivates you, even if it's taking a small break before you decide to get back at it again, anything but quit! An example I could use is when I'm working on my Digital Art for a good hour and decide I still don't like how my drawing looks, I get tired but deep down want to finish it soo bad, so instead of giving up I take a break, let my fingers breathe and get a snack before going back at it again, sometimes it's okay to not break your back trying to finish projects no one's perfect.

So I feel like Spirit also wants to warn us of becoming too materialistic, it's clear this message is for someone who's worked hard to get to where they are now, but I feel like you haven't had the time to celebrate that because you're too focused on moving on to the next thing so quickly, we should appreciate and honor and celebrate all that we've done for ourselves even if you haven't reached the highest goal you've set, go out and celebrate with people you love! You deserve it!

So I feel energy like someone putting so much on themselves, I feel like you make yourself your main concern? If that makes sense? Like someone who gets frustrated at themselves because they quit something, someone here overworks their mind way too much, to a dangerous point. You're pushing your body to work so much because of a certain goal and I see here you see yourself as the problem. You are the very thing that crafts your reality but you can also break it as well. You know that saying less is more? I just heard it in my head, like if you stopped focusing so hard on this and live a little you might manifest it better not obsessing over it so much.

I'm picking up on two different messages, one is for someone who hardly has fun, I think the main message for you to overcome some things is to reach out more to people you love, spend more quality time with them! Have fun, go out and just go for a walk or sit in the park! Do something that doesn't feel like a job, you know? For others, I'm getting you might be more introverted, Spirit is encouraging you to branch out more, maybe work is something that you've just always known and been comfortable, but Spirit is encouraging you to go make some friends, step out of your comfort zone a little! Sometimes someone's companionship is all you need and you would've even realize it because if you're like me and hardly care for socializing it's something you can definitely live without, can't miss something you've never had right? Lol.

I feel some anxiety, negative thoughts and bad coping methods that are no longer serving you, but I feel like this anxiety is just coming from being scared, scared of the unknown especially. This energy doesn't serve you, focus on healing this and pushing this energy out of our consciousness, don't expect it, normalize it or embrace it.

I think as time goes on you could slip into a state of wanting to be alone a lot, I think this is a warning if you continue on you'll always be stuck in that energy. I think the hermit also reminds us to consider ourselves better, present and future, encourages to get to know yourself as well, take time to really understand and appreciate yourself.

I think you're a kind person, I'm seeing here you're represented by the Ace of Cups as well as how you see yourself, which means there is self love there, even if you don't see it or feel it's not impossible! You're being pushed to learn more about yourself maybe, I'm getting this card also signifies someone who mostly spends their time alone, this could be because you're being drawn to focus more on yourself and this could also serve as a warning for some that you could be surrounding yourself with too many energies. Either way this card does signify a change does need to happen. A path needs to be taken. Something needs to be done, let's see what it is!

So currently it's healing, I'm seeing it's something heavy on your mind and heart. Well, with the Justice I hear that you have the option to heal right now, you maybe have been wondering what does healing really mean? and I'm hearing that the Angels Gabriel maybe are present with this card and that the path to healing is about to basically open up for you to take. H h h hey...! Damian mun here with another certified YAP because I keep seeing posts about this specific thing, and I need to talk about it....!!!

So. A while back, I had seen this post talking about how Talia's first punishment for Damian would be that Damian had to kill a horse. Which seemed bonkers to me because she absolutely wouldn't force Damian to do that. If you didn't know, the Al Ghuls are eco terrorists. They want to make the world better by focusing on plants & animals more than the actual people. That's just one thing btw...

Anyways, back to my yap that will sound absolutely fucking crazy in the end because it won't be written good. (This is a warning)

I saw another post talking about how Damian only finally expressed his love for animals when he started living with Bruce and that he would only know the heartbreak of an animal death when living with Bruce. Which is... not true at all. I don't think people tend to realize that Damian's compassion for animals comes from Ra's and Talia. They're the reason he's compassionate about animals and why he ends up saving Bat-Cow.

Maybe it's just me, but people seem to keep crediting Bruce ( or other bat family members ) for things that Damian has like his love of animals, artistic ability, anything to do with the arts, etc. It feels like a tad bit racist because it's like nobody can accept that Damian's non-white family members gave him those characteristics when, in fact, they did. I don't know. That's just something I've noticed.

Going more off of that, but I've also seen people argue that Ra's and Talia were against animals, the arts, and all those types of things. It just irks me so badly when people mischaracterize them like that JUST because they're not counted to be "heroes" or on the "good side." Even then, Talia is very much a grey moral character, yet they always depict her as a terrible mother, evil, etc. Ra's is counted a supervillain, yes, but that doesn't mean Talia is? Even then, it's just weird to push those kinds of stereotypes on people just because they're "bad." I never see people say stuff like, "Oh yeah, the riddler would soooo kill a puppy." I only see people say that about the Al Ghuls, and I'm so tired of it.

I saw a post today, and it was about Damian experiencing his first heartbreak over a pet death. Legit one of the first sentences read was, "Ra's would either force Damian to kill the animal or give it away." Why is it between those options, like, what! The post overall was sad because of the meaning, but I just didn't like that part. Ra's is known to be an animal lover in the comics. He has a pet wolf. I don't think he would have forced Damian to murder an animal if he so happened to sneak it inside of the league.

Maybe that's just me, but it bothers me when people say these things.

I have a platform, though, and I'm not afraid to share my thoughts on this. I've been a very big advocate against this type of mischaracterization, and I'm sorry that I do it so much. I know it may get annoying, but I feel like it needs to be expressed. 😭

♪ you found out when you walked in on him, with his earphones plugged in and everything, loudly singing (almost as well as you)

♪ "what are you doing" you sneak behind him and whisper in his ear

♪ "aah!" he jumps a little bit "you weren't suppose to see this!" his voice a little pitched and kind of fumbling to try and turn his music off, pulling the earphones out of his ears

Obscutober 2024 Prompt List(s)!

Anyone got room for yet another October Prompt List? 😉

I really wasn’t feeling the Official Inktober Prompt List this year & deeply miss the Obscutober lists nikolas_tower used to post over on Instagram, so I decided to break from tradition even more than I usually do & make my own! ✨

The main idea is each prompt is an Obscure Word, but I did get a little choosy & try to put a bit of my own spin on it!

Before I get into my usual long-winded description, if you want to actually follow this prompt list—Or the Lite or Weekly version—here's what you need to know:

Here's the "Official" Definition list so you don't have to spend time looking up the words yourself if you don't want to...But also, if you do want to, feel free! The "official" definitions are intended as a time-saving guideline!

The list is open to all mediums! "Typical" visual art (Digital or Traditional), Literature, Sculpture, Crafts, Coloring Pages—whatever you want!

The word itself does not have to be directly included/related to what you make; You can just take inspiration from the way it sounds or looks, or something the sticks out to you in the definition, etc.

If a word or two doesn't work for you for various reasons, feel free to swap-in a different word—Either another "obscure" word of your choosing, or a word from another prompt list that you like better.

I've provided "Lite" and Weekly versions of the list in case the full 31 is too much, but you can pick-and-choose words from the full list however you'd like if you're not crazy about the words I picked for the shorter versions, or if you want to shorten the list in a different way.

Remember that my views on these Month-Long Daily Challenges is that it's about the challenge of completing a certain amount of creative pieces in the time given...And that's pretty much it, so as long as you're doing that and having fun, I'm really not bothered about how you choose to follow the list! Well, well, Sparklers—I assume this is quite the surprise coming from me. 🤭 Both because I've been awfully quiet over the past couple of months and this is what I come back with. [And for the record, I intend to explain more about where exactly I've been in a Museletter, but I wasn't able to get it typed up and ready-to-go today; Once I get it ready I'll add the link here.]

Not that me disappearing for a while and coming back with something not necessarily expected of me is all that abnormal, but rather if you've followed me for a while, you might remember I'm not normally super-keen on everyone and their uncle's mother's brother's sister making their own Prompt Lists.

So then, Mystic, what gives? Why make your own Prompt List now?

You can thank nikolas_tower on Instagram for that, actually. 😆 Some of you might also remember that I follow his Obscutober list in October 2021, and I've also swapped in an Obscutober word a couple of times when one of the "official" Inktober words didn't work for me.

I've explained before how much I love the Obscutober concept to its core, so I won't re-hash all of that here. The important part is that I do love it, but to my great sadness, 2022 only got an abbreviated Obscutober list (2 words per week), 2023 didn't get an Obscutober list at all (though I didn't really need one for 2023 because I was busy enough as it was following two other prompt lists at once) and considering just how close we're getting now, I really sincerely doubt Nikolas has/had plans for a 2024 one. Add to that: I was not super jazzed about the official Inktober prompt list for this year. Now, don't get me wrong—I'm normally not thrilled with every single word on the list (and if you've followed my Inktobers' past, you know I say as much during the month!), but I'm not sure I've ever felt quite so unenthusiastic about the whole list before.

Additionally still, some of you might remember I did talk a little bit last year about some...struggles I supposed is the closest word, that I've had with the past couple of Inktobers I've done. And generally, I've had some ideas for really shaking up the way I handle October for the past couple of years.

While, granted, my main "shake-up" idea is totally unrelated even to this list and I never seem to be able to get the necessary prep work it would require done in time, I think the main takeaway is a I've had a low-grade yearning to do something different...but I do still want to stick to my "tradition" of handling Inktober unconventionally.

So in the end, it kinda just made sense to at least try making my own Obscutober-style list this year. It's something different and I've missed the Obscutober lists, so why not?

Worth noting that I did try to put just a little of my own spin on it in my choice of words. While already I did try to stay away from words Nikolas already used for all 4 of his Obscutobers, I also had a couple of "rules" with the words I picked:

No words that are "Obscure" purely because they're not English/aren't found in English dictionaries. For example, "Lunette" is a French word, but it appears in English dictionaries with a definition that's more than just "the French word for..."

The word must have a definition that's relatively easy to find and/or appears in well-established English Dictionaries like Dictionary.com or Merriam-Webster. This rule exists because I noticed pretty quickly a lot of "aesthetic" definition images on Pinterest either don't turn up any other reliable results that a word even exists, or the word may exist but the Pinterest definition is straight-up wrong.

No overly gross/medical/NSFW words. (This wasn't a problem with any of Nikolas' Obscutober picks, this is just a personal preference that did shape my research a bit.)

One of my problems with the Inktober list for this year is too many words feel like synonyms/too closely related, so I wanted to avoid that. A couple of words are still kind of close in the end, like "Vitrine" and "Hyaline" or "Escutcheon" and "Orphrey, but they're still more different from each other than some words that I considered and ultimately turned down. [For example, I considered "Lambent" and "Clinquant" but decided they were too close in meaning to "Scintillate."]

Likewise, aside from the theme of being Obscure, I tried not to lean to heavily on words that fit a particular theme or idea

I tried not to pick "obscure" words that have become decently well-known or popular because they're obscure. The best example is "Aglet" wasn't even considered because it's been mentioned in multiple TV shows that I know of. "Scintillate" might push that boundary a little, but it is one of my personal favorites.

I also tried to pick words that had a little variety in definition length and not pick too many that had really short definitions, which ties into my next point...

More abstractly, I tried to pick words that feel like they both lend themselves to a really solid image but also leave room for interpretation of that image. Historically I've had problems with Inktober words feeling too much like they really only fit one specific interpretation of the word or they only have so many ways to represent the idea. And on the flip side, some of Nikolas' Obscutober picks (at least when I participated in 2021) felt a little too abstract at times. Ultimately, this feeling is probably highly subjective, but I tried my best to find the right balance anyway.

While not perfectly balanced, I did try not to lean too heavily on one type of word, as in Adjectives/Nouns/Verbs. There are still less verbs overall because it was just harder to find verbs that fit what I wanted, but if I hadn't consciously paid attention there probably would've only been 1-2 verbs and like 20 adjectives.

Not really related to adding "my own spin," but also worth noting that it was also important to me to provide "Lite" and Weekly versions of the list the way that Nikolas did for Obscutober II to make it easier for people that just don't have one-thing-every-single-day kind of time to feel welcome to still participate in some way. As stated in the description for those, you can just jump around the list however you like, but I know sometimes it's just easier if someone already lays things out that way for you instead of having to remember to leave things out and such.

And then for the visual list design, I did a mixture of Nikolas' Obscutober list style and my own more typical branding elements, which ended up working out much better than I expected; I wanted the "spirit" of the list to be recognizable to fans of Nikolas' lists without being an exact copy/looking too much like I was trying to "pretend" to be him or something, and I think I landed in a pretty good place. [And in case anyone is wondering, yes I did use my own template to make the list!]

I do have to admit to you Sparklers though that despite going through all that trouble, I'm actually still not 100% sure I'll be following the list myself. 😅 I've gone back and forth over how exactly I want to handle October at all this year so much...I definitely want to (and intend to!) do a Daily Challenge, especially given how spotty my uploads have been over the last year, but I just can't seem to settle on one full-fledged plan that I'm completely satisfied with.

I do have one potential idea I'm considering that already has a very specific alternate list, but pretty much all of my other ideas would normally use the official Inktober list, and so since that list isn't on the table for me this year, and it's really looking like DeviantArt isn't doing Drawtober again this year—Which I find incredibly sad, by the way!—I need another list on-hand that I know I can use and be reasonably happy with.

And for the record, I'm being intentionally coy about that one specific idea and not sharing that list because it's highly specific and if I do decide to go that route in some way, I'd like the main idea to be a least a little bit of a surprise.

But even if I don't use this list myself, I thought at least a few other people might enjoy giving it a try. After all, I wasn't the only one that enjoyed Nikolas' Obscutobers—I originally found out about them through another person entirely. So maybe a few other people are feeling that Obscutober void, or maybe you're just a big Word Nerd™ like me, or maybe you just want something that's a little different still from a lot of the more typical alternative prompt lists that have been floating around.

So, whatever the case, here the list is (and the Lite and Weekly versions, too); Let us all do with them what we will! 😉

Before I go, I will offer an apology to anyone who's disappointed or frustrated that I'm posting the list so close to time to use it—Believe me, if I'd been 100% sure I wanted to make it in the first place sooner, I would have gotten it out much sooner, too! But I'm doing the best I still can by getting out with this very tiny 2-day cushion instead of just dropping it right on the 1st. If the list turns out to be something you Sparklers want to see again next year, I promise I'll do my best to get it out with a lot more advance notice next time!

Goodness y'all are getting a heckin' lot of rain world content today

Anyway, in prep for art month, I designed all the slugcats a couple days ago. Mainly wanted to get down heights and lengths; a couple special quirks individual sluggies have.

enjoy my sluggy babies, as well as a little ramblings

Survivor was of course the almost base for the rest of slugcats; average height, decently average build. They have a stiff tail, which was totally accidental but is now a headcanon of mine. They have a stiff tail, which funnily enough probably treads on their ability to survive, as I see the slugcats' squishiness as a evolved survival technique to outrun lizards and other predators in small spaces like tubes. My source? The amount of times I have narrowly escaped a hoard of orange lizards.

Monk is Surv, just smaller. She is also a little thinner framed, and shorter lengthwise. I love their cute littler face to death, and them being generally smaller gives me the thought they are younger than Surv. Surv is a young adult (19-20's in human years), while Monk is still very much an adolescent when he dives in after his sibling. Oh and of course the little karma flower. What else are you supposed to do with the spares?

Hunter is thick, and a lot of this has to do with the muscle they have. I imagine this is in the first couple cycles of their campaign, after Pebbles I bet they get a whole lot frailer from the rot literally taking their nutrients. Especially getting to Moon, you can tell she is being taken over by the rot; frail and a whole lot more cysts. Also I gave them a pouch for the neuron because... do you know how inconvenient it is to always be carrying that thing???

Artificer is the 2nd tallest --- only bested by the great Gourm himself. I like giving her a bright tail to symbolize her explosive abilities, though now that I think about it she would probably also have an ashy butt. I find her design pretty self-explanatory, triangular features, she decently top heavy. Bud has some crazy abs if she were human I'm sure.

I wanted Rivulet to be the longest one from the start. Kinda like the eel lizards. And his frills have been something I've incorporated from the start of last rw art month. The symbol on faer forehead is that of Unparalleled Innocence. I'm pretty sure I mentioned this in my iterator lineup from way-back-when, but I headcanon Riv to be from UI, and I like the idea of purposed organisms having the mark of their creator somewhere on them and for slugcats that on their foreheads.

Spearmaster my beloved <3. I like the idea of SRS having a little buddy, so they kinda made Spear to look similar to them in some regards. Like their fluffy neck being the juxtaposition for SRS's fluffy collar. He's also shockingly tall, just shy from being as tall as Arti, just like SRS. Out of the purposed organisms, they are the tallest. I kinda think I need to work on Spearmaster's tail more. Hopefully I get to draw the more in the following month.

Gourmand is probably the most self-explanatory. He looks like a wild slugcat, possibly Surv and Monk's Untie (aunt/uncle?). I've been playing through her campaign recently, so drawing her felt super natural.

I love how Saint looks compared to the chonker of Gourmand. Petite little thang. I actually struggled a little bit thinking of what I would imagine his pronouns would be. For a while I thought "it" would be fitting, but I decided on he/him because I still think he wants to be connected with something "human" for lack of a better word at the moment, and he thought that going with "it" would take him away from that. Also possible trauma for being created to just be a solution to a problem? I dunno, I could be slapping some Hollow Knight/Pure Vessel shit onto that, but oh well. Oh and I'm totally not looking at Saint now and thinking that he's literally just Viktor from arcane.

Watcher is difficult because the game for them hasn't come out yet, so I'm definitely taking a lot of creative liberties with them that are probably going to change once I get my hands on the game. Right now I have the distant crackhead hope that they'll be Chasing Wind's purposed organism, so that's what I ran with. No idea what xyr gem is for, but I like it. Really xyr just fan service, and that fan is me.

I almost forgot about Inv until a friend mentioned it. I adore the idea of it wanting to be called "it". I dunno the idea of it just wanting to be seen as a force of nature. Even though nature seems to just be against it. Slay. Also it has the wackiest of proportions. I thought it was on brand for... it. Lol confusing pronouns. I feel no regret for this.

WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG, VI, POWDER, and Ekko were all very close and looked out for each other. Ekko worked with Benzo, eagerly awaiting the return of his friends from their wilder hijinks. As they got older, their destinies diverged. Jinx and Ekko stayed true to their natures as resourceful inventors, but their stance on Silco divided them: Jinx becomes his protégée while Ekko vigorously opposes him and the violence shimmer created. He becomes the leader of a resistance group called the Firelights. In Season 2, Powder resurfaces to be reunited with Ekko in one of the series's most poignant storylines—or rather, alternate storylines. Baudry recalls that part of what fueled the multiverse section of Episode 207 was the feeling that Ekko had been given short shrift early on and there was a need to make clear that he, too, was an inventor. "We worked at Fortiche on the first video of Ekko when he was realized as a cham-pion, and there were a few things that we couldn't hit," he said. "One of them is that he is supposed to be a genius. He is supposed to be Leonardo da Vinci. Basically, he's cre-ating his own math system or writing system. So we we wanted to show in that episode that Ekko and Jinx are part of an academy, and they are going to school. Ekko hasn't been as challenged, so he is great, but he's not inventing crazy stuff because his life was not as hard. Canonically, he's supposed to be the one in Zaun who is taking care of the orphans, so we have a bit of that, but he also has his group of teenagers who are fighting against the chem-barons." If anything, Ekko emerged as one of the most unlikely heroes of the show, rising to meet tough sometimes heart-wrenching challenges and becoming a charismatic, beloved leader. Yet Episode 207 suggests a hollowness, something forever missing. Talking about his relationship with the storyboarding teams, the Season 2 director Bart Maunoury recalled giving them a specific direction for a specific shot: "At the very end of 209, I asked them to position Ekko exactly the same way as when he kisses Powder at the end of 207—to show that he's still there, but she isn't."

At least when it comes to drawing transformers... I don't put a lot of my other stuff up here haha. This guide probably won’t help with drawing TFP stuff tho. I like sticking to my cubes.

Who knows. Maybe this can help someone. Or provide amusement cause I have no idea what I'm doing. Just thought l'd share some stuff lol. And an unpopular art opinion.

So yeah, my secrets. Which like.... my art isn’t incredibly impressive or anything but... you get the point.

This is the part where I share my tips and tricks yippee! Small disclaimer, I just kinda do half of this stuff as a go. There is no real order to this. I’m basically just explaining how my style works (despite how much my style varies tbh)

There’s a general build for the body that I’m pretty sure most people have figured out. The head, chest, torso, and weird hip thingy. Then the legs are broken into two main segments, the arms are broken into three, shoulder, upper arm, lower arm.

Here we go, unpopular art opinion rant.

When I make my base I usually work from the head down. Don’t be afraid to use the lasso tool to readjust the sizes of different components. If the head you started with has the right angle but is too small, lasso it and make it bigger. If ur doing traditional, sorry, you’re just gonna have to redraw it.

I’ll usually try and clean up overlapping lines, but I wanted yall to see the shapes before I did that.

Then we can start adding details. I look at other artist’s designs and the source material and pick out reoccurring traits that will help make the character easily identifiable.

I tend to add the most detail to the head simply because that’s what is commonly used to identify characters. Usually when designing my version of a character I allow myself to kinda make up details for this part.

But do feel free to add your own details to make sure people can tell it’s “your” design!

These are still very simple shapes and not detailed whatsoever. We are keeping it basic on purpose.

Very loose shapes, extremely vague idea. Just putting down the most identifiable parts that are important in building it, if that makes sense. I put down the bare minimum for this.

You really don't want to over complicate things. It makes it difficult for the viewer to figure out what's going on. A crowded design is distracting and unappealing. The simpler the better.

So now we have our sketch layer done. Because I'm impatient, it's line art time baby!

I end up just kind of feeling it out with line art. There will be some changes between the sketch and the line art. I’ll also use line weight to just general shading stuff sometimes. In this one it’s not very consistent but I was kinda losing motivation cause… adhd my beloved.

This is pretty self explanatory. Use your sketch to outline what you want, adding details as you go. I'll still leave my lines pretty loose and messy for most of these, just because it adds a bit more... character? Makes it feel more authentic? But feel free to clean it up as much as your little heart desires.

Smth im really passionate about is not overcomplicating the designs and crowding it. I know I already mentioned it once but… yeah.

While adding a bunch of detail can be cool, if not executed right, it can become overwhelming and difficult to understand visually. Keep it simple, you don't need to add every crease or seam. Just the important ones that can help a character stand out or fill in an awkward large space.

Usually after that l'll just put flat color down. Nothing fancy. I like to just do greyscale but you can go crazy. I'm not stopping you.

But adding a flat color under your line art helps pull together the sketch. It makes it easier for people to understand what is and isn't a character and makes it simpler to understand the character’s shape.

If I have several characters in one picture l'll usually make them separate colors to help make sure you can easily identify them as different people. I usually try to keep in mind the characters actual color when doing this. People with darker colors get a darker gray.

I’ll also try and give a different color to an object they are interacting with so it doesn’t get confused with the character themselves.

The entire reason I gave Sunstreaker a gun was to show this. I hate drawing guns.

These are also rarely perfect. As long as it's not extremely obvious that you're out of the lines, no one will notice. At least that’s been my experience.

There's a lot of personalization when it comes to drawing and I don't know if I explained all of this very well. Ironically I don't really think much about how I'm doing it, I just... do it.

now, call me crazy for this one, but i don't think patrick was art's gay awakening.

and i need y'all to hear me out on this. i think he had his gay awakening the summer before he started his first year at the academy. he was just so young, he didn't realize what it was at the time.

it was probably with a close but temporary friend of his, maybe a boy a grade or two above him who decided art was worth his time for the summer months (and it definitely wasn't because he lived hours away from his school friends and was out of other options).

anyway, because art was smaller and younger and more innocent than him, he was very easy to mess with, which this particular friend took advantage of at every opportunity.

he would tease art nonstop, calling him names and pushing him around, and art would come crawling back for more every single day as soon as his 'best friend' rolled out of bed at one pm.

some days they'd go swimming, and this boy would hold art underwater until he came back up coughing and sputtering with tears in his eyes. other days they'd go out to a field close by, and art never saw it coming when he got pushed down the big hill, even though it happened every time without fail.

but no matter what they did, every day art followed him all the way back home, battered and bruised from the hours of torment, and he blushed as he asked shyly if they could have another sleepover.

sometimes the boy said yes. usually he said no, but art tried not to take it personally. after all, every time he asked if they were still best friends, the boy's answer was always the same:

"yeah, sure, man. hey, can you grab me another soda from downstairs? my legs hurt from swimming all day."

art had always been a bit of a lonely child, so when this person wandered into his life, he'd assumed their relationship was typical for two new best friends.

he followed this boy everywhere, watching him run and swim with pure reverence and devotion, and he never complained when the kicks started to hurt too bad, because he figured he was lucky to even be hanging out with him at all.

and the blushing and the stuttering and the giggling and the daydreaming were all perfectly normal things that perfectly normal people did when they finally found their best friend.

that was why when art went off to the academy and quickly became best friends with patrick, nothing seemed out of the ordinary about their relationship in the slightest.

well, except that patrick smiled more and hit him less and brought them both snacks when he came back from the dining hall, but those things were a good kind of strange. needless to say, art was happier with patrick as his best friend, and thoughts of patrick took up so much of his mind, he never even considered seeing that other boy ever again.

now, for patrick, i think his gay awakening happened a little later in life for him. and by that i mean when he was like 14-15.

also, yes, it was absolutely art.

i don't really think there was much to it for him. i genuinely just think art (being the late bloomer that he is) came back to school one year after a long, eventful summer with messy curls and toned muscles and a better ass than most of the girls in their grade.

and patrick took one look at art in his suddenly-too-small tennis shorts running over to hug him with the same ridiculously adorable grin, and thought,

". . . oh, fuck."

and that was that.

patrick for sure had a 'poof! you're gay,' moment.

then he just had to spend the next several years acting like it never happened and that everything was still exactly the same.

oh, the agony of being hopelessly in love with your oblivious best friend.

I had such a cool dream about Michael tonight. I've been up for 2 hours or something trying to recreate how he looked like in my dream. The drawings are at the end of the post, please read the dream before looking at them, because my art skills don't match what I saw in the dream.

In it, I first saw everything from the first point of view. I woke up on the street, under a pizzeria on the main street of my city. It was dark outside, the sky was completely black and I barely could see anything. It was so late that even the street lights were turned off. I saw a man closing the last shop that was located inside an avenue nearby. He was switching off the last bit of light.

I had no possessions on me, they were all left behind In a pizzeria (maybe I fell asleep there, and was kicked out when it was closing, I'm not entirely sure). It was cold outside as if it was early autumn. I had no coat, and I might have had no shoes on me.

I walked to my bus stop and looked at the tabloid that announced bus times. My bus was due, and it arrived almost immediately. It was a big coach, the one that only goes outside of the city. It was almost full, and it seemed like there were no free seats left.

I stumbled inside, I felt very weak in my legs. The bus started to move, and I said to the driver, while still on the stairs "Sorry, I have no money, I cannot pay you, but I really need to get home". Other passengers looked at me with judgment, but the bus driver was quiet for a second and then gestured for me to sit beside him, on the last unoccupied seat.

Then my point of view switched, and I was watching Michael talking to a bus driver from my seat. Possibly I was Michael all along.

He was dressed in a light blue button-up shirt, not exactly the one you would see on a blue-collar worker, but something softer and more casual looking. He was dressed too lightly for such a late and cold night. He looked as if he was from a well-drawn cartoon. His hair was as usual, golden and wavy, one of his eyes blue. His right eye looked blind, with a red pupil, and the iris was much lighter than his seeing eye.

He looked all lost and confused. He claimed he had a very bad memory, and that he just got unlucky, falling asleep and ending up in the town that late.

But once the bus moved outside of the city, he changed. He started to smile, and tell the bus driver everything he knew would get him to listen, and everything to get under his skin. That facade of a poor lost soul was gone. He made sure that the bus driver would want to go to seek help in the Institute, and he spoke as if John was already listening to him. He said "I know what you are looking for" to the Archivist.

Some time had gone by, and the bus arrived at Michael's stop. It was a tiny village, with barely any houses. He smiled, and looked at the bus driver, with a sticker of a smiley face covering his seeing eye. He stared at him for a moment, until the dream abruptly ended.

Guys! I need help from the fandom. I want to draw a series of art with the high lords of all the courts. The task is difficult because there is very little information about them in the text. Here are my suggestions/headcanons: Spring Court - Because of my headcanons I'm going to have to redesign Tamlin. Britain 17th century, Renaissance, Shakespeare (anyone surprised?)

Summer Court - I thought for a long time, but decided to offer the image of Ptolemaic Kingdom. Closest to the reign of Cleopatra. And a bit of fantasy sea... I think.

Autumn Court - I wanted to suggest Ireland, but sjm said otherwise. It's not clear from the names, Lucien, Beron, Eris - different names of different cultures. So France of the 15th century. I can't think of a better one.

Winter Court - Norway, vikings. These guys are crazy enough to ride polar bears! Their women are also on equal footing with the men (Vivienne served on the border).

Day Court - Babylonia. Babylonia was conquered by both Persians and Greeks at different times. That's why it suits Hellion. In addition, sciences were widely developed in Babylonia and special attention was paid to magic. Symbolic.
