I know I keep dying on the "modern country isn't all pro-america racist garbage" hill but I did want to say; the other day I got bored(I'm in bed recovering from surgery) and decided to listen to every single song on the Billboard Top 100 Country Songs of 2024 list and there were only FOUR that fit that description. Out of ONE HUNDRED SONGS. ONLY FOUR THAT WERE LIKE THAT.
More ranting about this under the cut but TL;DR country really has changed. Recognize that or at the very least shut up about how you'd like it more if it was [xyz thing it already fucking is] please. It's okay if you just don't vibe with it, you don't need to validate your taste with political grandstanding, you can just not like it! That is possible!!
If you say all modern country is racist maga garbage you are simply incorrect. You're legit just wrong. So can we stop doing it now?? Please?? 'Cuz I keep seeing people say this even after Cowboy Carter won all those awards and Shaboozey had a song DOMINATE the charts and then was in TWO Super Bowl Halftime Shows featuring country music AND after Luke Combs, one of the biggest white men in country rn sang on stage with Tracy Chapman, a black woman, uplifting and supporting her and her work, and didn't even change the pronouns in the song, and like, this dismissal and refusal to engage is quickly moving from irritating to legit infuriating. Especially given how man diverse artists that attitude erases.
If you mean certain fans or the mainstream industry or an awards show or a specific artist (fuck you Jason Aldean you bigoted shithead, every single queer person living in a small town in a red state could eat your worthless ass for breakfast and still have room for more, you're an embarrassment and I hope one day you realize that) SAY THAT. Because the music itself, and a lot of new artists? They're different now. And I HATE to see progressives and leftists who don't even like country whine and complain about it being terrible maga garbage and not lift a finger to help support the people who are putting everything into creating the change these people keep saying needs to happen.
It's happening, so show up on the front lines or sit down and shut up.
