Do you like practical effects and "wait that was a puppet" and fun forced perspective camera tricks?
Do you like hot butches whose superpower is explaining why capitalism sucks?
Do you like magical realism that uses metaphor to explore marginalized experiences?
Do you hate cops? Do you hate Elon Musk?
Did you love the superhero genre in the early 2010s but feel weird about that part of your life now that you have slightly better politics?
Are you tired of the MCU to the point of celebrating it being put on hold by the hollywood strikes?
Do you like strikes and unions and hate bosses and landlords?
Do you like that thing Elijah Wood does where he shows up in a niche roll to support what is clearly a passion project?
Do you want more clearly-neurodivergent black women in media?
Did you really like Sorry To Bother You?
Then watch I'm A Virgo. Get all your friends to watch it, especially the one that might be considering a career path Changing The System From The Inside.

Is it Just me or does everyone else not get along or care for their sun signs?
I am a Virgo I don’t get along with other Virgos or I would suggest others to stay away from us 😆, I love being a Virgo but I can’t stand other Virgos, maybe I’m just being critical and judgmental of other critical judgmentalers?? 🧐 Questions that I need answers too.

Got to finish up watching I'm A Virgo, and I cannot stress enough how far beyond anything else it is. I'm trying to find the words to make more people see it, because there are certain works of art which are important in far reaching ways, and this is one of them.
And the thing is, not every kind of important art is accessible, watchable, easy to engage with and easy to understand, but this one is. It's a show about black experiences which literalizes them into the surreal, giving us a thirteen foot tall protagonist and that's just the start of it. It's a show about social justice, inequality, liberation, unity, and overcoming capitalism - which appears to somehow serve these truths uncompromised by simpering and kowtowing to the system which produced it, which feels miraculous by itself, before even approaching how beautiful and human it is in every regard.
I'm A Virgo doesn't sink to poverty porn, does not dismiss important questions, and doesn't pretend to have easy answers. But what it does do is promise change and improvement and possible, and layers itself thick with luscious metaphors turned into something real and visible.
I'm A Virgo is a story about a thirteen foot tall black man at the heart of a fomenting revolution in a world that sees him as a monster and anyone around him as criminals, which wants to exploit him as much as it wants to objectify him, to do anything but give him his agency while he's pulled in three directions at once by people trying to help.
It's also just about a bunch of teenage friends growing up. It's the large writ huge and the small space of the heart in technicolor symphony. There are many pieces of media trying and failing to do just a tenth of what this one accomplishes with grace and style.
These are just words and are not enough, but I'll go ahead and implore you, make this the next thing you see.

Jones: Capitalism must have unemployment to exist. The way the boss stops you from asking for more money is to threaten you implicitly or explicitly with firing you. If there were full employment, people could ask whatever pay they want. There'd be no one to replace them. Publications like The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times openly worry when the unemployment rate goes too low—because wages go up, profit and stock values go down. Capitalism must have an army of unemployed workers in order to exist. What do you have when you have an army of unemployed workers? You have an army of unemployed workers who want to eat. And humans are not gonna let themselves just starve. So they get involved in illegal business.
The Hero: You're leaving out assaults. Murder.
Jones: All business, legal and illegal, uses violence to regulate itself. If you try to run out of the grocery store with a cart full of groceries, either you're gonna get away with it or someone's gonna physically stop you whether it's the security or the police. If, say, a hotel neighboring the MCI building decided they wanted to tear down your building to make a golf course, you'd use violence...
The Hero: Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. This is where the law steps in to make things civilized. I have a deed showing my ownership.
Jones: Right. The only reason that piece of paper is worth anything is because it implies that men with guns are gonna come to physically enforce the words written on it. Those men with guns are called police. The paper is a placeholder for the violence.
Jones: Illegal business doesn't have these. Illegal business practitioners can't go to court and say, "Your Honor! I was supposed to be buying a whole key of cocaine from the defendant. Clearly this is half baking soda. I demand restitution." They can't go to the zoning commission and say, "That neighborhood is only zoned for two heroin vendors, unless that guy has a special emergency permit or wants to limit himself to cocaine."
Jones: Often, legality or illegality is the only thing that determines whether business dealings are considered violent. In the 1920's when liquor was illegal, if you rob the liquor dude, gangsters come after you. Now that liquor is legal, if you rob the liquor dude, police come after you. In the 1990s when weed was illegal, if you robbed the weed dude, gangsters come after you. Now that weed is legal, if you rob the weed dude, police come after you.
Jones: Capitalism necessitates unemployment and poverty, which necessitates illegal business, the regulation of which is what causes violence.
Jones: How do you tell the whole working class that poverty and violence are necessitated by capitalism, without them deciding to get rid of capitalism? You don't. You tell them poverty is due to bad choices of those impoverished. But how do you tell the whole working class that their economic situation is due to their poor choices? You don't. You tell them that it's The Other that's making bad choices. That it's the culture of The Other that causes this.
Jones: You do this via the news, sitcoms, cop shows, and superhero shows. Even when they're smart enough to hide their point. This causes part of the working class, even the so-called others, to identify with the ruling class. A group of us are trying to change this whole thing. If you wanted to stop so-called crime and the violence that grows from it, you'd be a revolutionary. But you're not.
