"Say hi to Minami, Y/n." Your mom told you, pointing at the boy in front of you. He was standing like a statue, hardly any emotion showing on his face. You hid behind your mother and shyly said "Hi".

"Hello." Minami gave you ghost smile while holding his mother's hand, who was sitting on the chair.

His mother spoke with weak voice. "Minami, this is Y/n. She's your age. I hope you two will get along well." Your mom nodded at her words.

Your mom and Minami's mom were classmates and close friends in the school, but since she left Japan and went to Brazil, they didn't have much contact. But now, your mother decided to travel to Brazil as well, taking you with her and immediately visiting her old friend who had fallen ill.

"My, my, I heard your illness got worse." Your mother sat next to her friend as they went on with their conversation, leaving you two awkwardly standing.

"I'm Y/n." You tried to start the conversation as you usually did with other kids. But he definitely was hard one to befriend.

"I know."

"Oh." You looked down at the floor, thinking what to say next. "Yes, but...It's polite to introduce yourself to people you've just met."

He silently looked at you before nodding and introduced himself as well. "I'm Minami. Minami Terano."

"It's nice to meet you, Minami-kun. Let's be friends!" You excitedly looked at him. Befriending kids was never hard for you, in fact, it was a piece of cake. You had so many friends in Japan and it'd be nice to have friends in Brazil as well!

"Um..." Minami looked at his mother, his eyes slightly widening when he saw her laughing, genuinely caught up in the conversation and for once, genuinely enjoying something. "Sure." He looked back at you, giving you ghost smile again.

"Do you have any toys? We could play with them!"

"No...I only have piano to play with."

"Ohh! You like music then? We have something in common! I like music too! Tho I play violin."

"You do?"

"Yup!" You nodded your head. "Do you have anything favorite to play on piano?" You excitedly asked, also scanning the room to spot the instrument.

"Lullaby." Minami answered, scratching his head.

"That's cool!"

It's the first time someone, aside from her mom, thought of him as cool. He never really recognised his musical skills, he was just playing piano for his ill mother. But, it'd be a lie if anyone would say that he didn't enjoy it.

After some convincing, he played piano for you. The sight was too beautiful. He looked so peaceful while playing some unknown lullaby, but despite you not recognising it, the melodies, the sounds filled your ears, as if trying to heal something, trying to hypnotise you and lure you closer to the boy.

"WHOAH!" You let out, clapping loudly for him. He just brushed it off, saying it wasn't anything praiseble.

After that day, you were visiting Minami very often and sometimes bringing your toys to play with him.

His mother didn't miss the fact that her son became more open and expressive. He was sometimes asking her if you and your mom were going to come again.

Since he didn't want to leave her mother alone, you two were playing inside his room. He even teached you how to play Piano.

"Not that note." He sighs and corrected you, telling you that you were supposed to play So and not La. "Try again."

And you did, you tried your best to follow Minami's instructions but piano definitely wasn't for you. After 14th try, you gave up. "Man, I didn't think it would this hard to play a piano! How did you even learn this?!"

"I don't remember." Minami calmly answered, confusing you. Noticing your visible confusion, he added. "I knew how to play it as long as I can remember. I don't really remember my past, you know.."

"Ohhh." You said and nodded your head at him. Though you had questions, you choose to don't egg him and change the subject.

"I don't really remember how I learned to play violin too, to be honest." You confessed. "I only remember my teacher nagging me and scolding me." You giggled at the memory.

"Really?" Minami looked at you with unexpected curiosity. "I heard teachers do that often but I never had one myself!"

You remember what your mother said, that Minami doesn't go to school so it's understandable he would never have the same experience. "Well, it's definitely not pleasant experience. But not all teachers are like that, of course! For example my art teacher at school is very kind woman, she doesn't give us homework too!" Noticing how invested he was in the topic, you continued talking about your school.

The next day you brought your school books with you. You and Minami sat at the corner as you started reading for him. The story was about two kids helping each other out when facing problems and their friendship.

Minami suddenly said: "This story kind of reminds me of us."

You smiled at him. "You think so? To be honest, I was thinking that too! That's why I specifically choose to read this story!"

The boy smiled back, explaining why it reminded of two of you, a you carefully listen, sometimes scheming in that you also thought the same.

The day after that, your mom tagged along with you, checking up on her friend. You two bought products for them, supporting them as much as you two could. You immediately run up to Minami and gave him a toy motorcycle.

"What's this...?" He asked, looking at the toy from the every angle.

"it's the motorcycle, small version of Honda." You explained, showing him the little text on the toy that said Honda. "Boys in my class enjoy playing with these things so I thought you'd enjoy it too.." You awkwardly scratching your head, hoping he would like it.

Minami stared at the toy longer than he should have, he couldn't get his eyes off of it. "Thank you! I'll take good care of it." He looked at you with the biggest smile on his face. You smiled at him too.

"Oh and...This!" You took out the bracelet from your pocket. The bracelet was clearly handmade. It had the letter "M" on it. "I made it myself. Tho I'm not very good at these stuff..." You hesitantly said while putting the bracelet on his wrist, while Minami looked at your movement carefully. "I still hope you like this too."

He brushed the bracelet with his hand, staring down at the "M" letter. "I'll take care of this too." He said, smiling to himself.

There was something about his smile that made you feel butterflies in your stomach. It's not the first time you have seen him smile like that but everytime, every single time, you cheeks would heat up and you'd have the same feeling in your stomach.

What was it?

Why do you feel like that?

You didn't know, at least, not that time.

Spending time with him was a blessing. Minami started visiting you himself if he had time. For some reason, he was more talkative with you than before, not that it bothered you. He wouldn't fail to make you laugh, smile and blush everytime you were with him.

For example, when you two were playing outside, he made the crown of flowers for you and put it on your head. "It suits you so much." he'd say.

You wondered if he really enjoyed spending time with you, or if he was like that with you because he didn't have any other friend. Despite some negative thoughts popping up in your mind, you didn't want to stop spending time with him.

But unfortunately, things didn't go in your way. Five days after, your parents started having a big fight between themselves, while you were in your room, shaking and hugging your knees.

It's all my fault.

You'd think.

"How can you even look at my face and act like nothing happened, you cheater!" you heard your mom screaming at your father. You couldn't understand the situation well and neither you wished to, you just wished they would stop fighting already and that everything would be alright.

But once again, that was just a sweet daydreaming. Divorce soon followed that fight and according to your mom, dad wouldn't stay with you two anymore, since he choose someone else over you two.

In that period, you did distance yourself from Minami a bit.

"I'm sorry, 'nami. I'm not really in the mood f-"

"It's okey. Mom told me you are going through hardship right now. So, I understand. But...Don't push me away, okey?" the boy hesitantly asked. As much as he wanted to give you space, he didn't like the idea of you distancing yourself from him, not after you became such an important person in his life.

"Thank you for your understanding, 'Nami." You smiled at him, while he was waiting for your answer on his question, which he never got.

After days passed, you visited Minami to play with him again. He was playing piano for his sick mother again. When you knocked on the door, he stopped playing and opened the door. "Y/n!!" he gasped, throwing his arms around you.

"Awwe, I missed you too." You laughed and pat his back. The light in his eyes were back but somehow he seemed more...How to say it? Sad? Probably. He had small bags under his eyes, as if he hasn't slept well.

After greeting Mrs. Terano, you asked her if you and Minami could play outside.

"of course. Don't go far away tho!" she weakly answered.

You grabbed Minami's hand and took him to nearby park, it wasn't far away from his house. You two sat on the bench and you immediately started conversation. Minami was carefully listening to you but you couldn't help but feel like something bothered him.

"What's wrong, Minami?"

"hm?" surprised expression flashed his face before he gathered his composure again. Despite this all, you noticed he wasn't very expressive as he was before. You patiently waited for him to open up but instead, he posed you a question. "Y/n, who do you think is a bad person?"

"uhh...? Criminal?"

"only criminals?"

"I don't know. Anyone can be good or bad. We never know who is it. But if I had to describe a bad person...I guess they'd have to be selfish, manipulative, sadistic?" You looked at him. "Why are you asking?"

"Just curious....."

After that day, Minami would distance himself from you. Whenever you'd look at him, there was not a single sign of genuine emotion. Of course as his friend you got worried about him.

"are you alright, Minami? It seems like something is bothering you..."

"...I'm fine."

"you sure? You know you can tell me everything."

He was silent for a minute and you gave him time to collect his thoughts.

"it's about my father figure." He quietly mumbled.

"your father figure...?" you also quietly whispered to him.

"He's the leader of the gang, Dino South."

"What?!" you stand up on your feet. Dino South was pretty popular in this city and they've been on the news multiple times. "What does he want from you?! Is he threatening you?!"

Minami shakes his head. "he's the one paying for my mom's meds."

"huh?!"

"In exchange...I need to do bad things for him."

You were speechless. For how long has this been going on?! And you didn't even know... "what...? You should report him to police!"

He gritted his teeth. "I can't! I can't do that!"

You looked at him with pity. "You can find other ways to pay for Mrs. Terano's meds. I'll help you too!"

"I can't stop now that I have started playing his game, Y/n." He stand up from the ground too. "That's why, I'll be his dog and kill him."

[ The anon pulls out a violin out of nowhere. They stood a few feet away from him, scared that he might hate it like the other anons.]

"Feel free to listen, I guess? I don't know, but I hope this song interests you."

[A soft and slow tune plays from the violin, the faint echoes of a piano accompanying the strings. An ocean breeze came from nowhere, further enhancing the immersion. Tapping to the melody, the anon begins to sing.]

Gather up all of the crew! It's time to ship out Bink's brew! Sea wind blows To where? Who knows? The waves will be our guide!

[ The anon coughs a little, forgetting the lyrics for just a moment. Feel free to laugh at that. So, it hums the bit it forgot. But who really focuses on those details? The song is certainly catchy. And it's really trying to comfort him in a way.]

Bid farewell to weaver's town! Say so long to port renowned! Sing a song, it won't be long, before we're casting off! Cross the gold and silver seas The salty spray puts us at ease! Day and night to our delight The voyage never ends!~

[ The speed of the notes picks up once more, the A and D strings changing the pitch of the melody. The smell of sea salt assists the verse, along with lavender. A whale plush appears balanced on top of the anon, bouncing lightly as the tapping switches from a foot to another.]

Gather up all of the crew! It's time to ship out Bink's brew! Pirates we, eternally are challenging the sea! With the waves to rest our heads Ship beneath us as our beds! Hoisted high upon the mast our Jolly Roger flies!

[The whale plush slides off the head, but lands perfectly on its belly. A big smile to represent the journey the song is about. The anon sang the final verse in a slightly louder tone, a bit more confidence added. Did a little twirl there too.]

Somewhere in the endless sky, Stormy winds are blowin' by! Waves are dancing, evening comes, It's time to sound the drums! But steady men may never fear! Tomorrow's skies are always clear! So pound your feet and clap your hands till sunny days return!

[The pitch changes for the last time, the highest one can play. The anon even added in the "Yohohoho" for extra measure. Back to the soft voice, though. The song ended and the feel of the ocean breeze was no more.]

"I uhh, hope you like it. You're an amazing person! And I'm sure you'll get through life, no matter the many obstacles that come your way or the anons that like to throw hate. Just like the song, I hope your sunny days arrive and stay."

black metal 🎶 counter-attack!

black metal is one of my favorite genres. screams and tremolos just rub my brain the right way for whatever reason, i love them outside of black metal too (tho i can be picky with vocals especially). plus it's the faggiest subgenre of extreme metal - how many death metal bands would name a song some shit like "Tears of a Melancholic Vampyre"? it's got a lot of theatrical elements, and I tend to judge black metal albums by their overall vibe along with the music.

before i get into the recs, famously and unfortunately, a lot of people in black metal suck in a lot of ways. i generally don't worry too much about this because i'm pirating most of it anyway, but i've checked these ones out and as far as i can tell, none of them suck in any especially bad ways. with that out of the way here are some favorites of mine:

Spectral Wound - Frigid and Spellbound - melodic but uncompromising black metal that sticks within the classic vein, particularly influenced by Gorgoroth and the Finnish scene. one of the few black metal bands with good lyrics, inspirations including Walter Benjamin, Ingmar Bergman, Giorgio Agamben, and Kate Bush. this song is their catchiest, with some really good melodic riffs. no left theorists show up directly within its lyrics, which are instead about the beauty of a frozen river, and a Grindr hookup ("Come to me anon/Deranged and defiled/Twisting in dark passions/Of the cruel nauseous hours").

Mortuary Drape - Not Still Born (The Unborn Plane) - founded in the late 80s, this Italian band is one of the best of the "first wave" of black metal, from when it was all sort of a soup of black/death/whatever. they're influenced by occult rock and their sound predates the Norwegian codification of the standard black metal style, so they're light on the blast beats, tremolo riffs, and Satanism and heavy on the bass, necromancy, and occultism. though not nearly as influential as Bathory or Celtic Frost, they've inspired a decent few bands in their own right. this one's about getting reincarnated.

Yaotl Mictlan - Nada Verde Crece Aquí - one of the first songs that got me into the genre, and still a favorite. melodic folk/black metal which makes good use of some indigenous flutes, not a lot of blast beats. lyrics are derived from one of the Nahuatl flower-songs of Nezahuacoyotl, about the impermanence of all things on earth.

Paysage d'Hiver - Welt Aus Eis - the most common word used to describe Paysage d'Hiver is "cold". it's stark and minimal, riding the line between atmospheric and ambient, and barely produced: i once saw someone complaining about being able to distinguish the instruments on a newer album of theirs (or should I say his? it's a one-man project). these days, i get it. everything in this song blends together into an entrancing whole, only broken by snatches of croaking and cackling carried on a freezing wind, and (twice) a beautifully dissonant violin. the lyrics are never comprehensible or transcribed, but conceptually it's about winter and a mysterious spiritual journey, as all their songs are.

Deafheaven - Dream House - You already know this song. It's really good! Takes some of the musical elements of black metal, reconfigures others (more complex drumming, different sorts of melodies in the riffs), and completely changes the aesthetics while still keeping a coherent vibe overall.

Odz Manouk - To Feast on Celestial Bodies - the (one-man) band's name is Armenian for "Snake Child", from a folk tale about a royal couple whose baby was born a serpent. hypnotic dissonant riffs, harsh but clear vocals (with an interesting sort of singing at times), production that's neither too raw nor too clean. super cool song title also. if you go deeper into their music, the split with Tuukaria is not to be missed.

Negative Plane - Angels of Veiled Bone - one of the bands inspired by Mortuary Drape, they take the occult sound and bring it closer to modern black metal while adding a ton of reverb for atmosphere. the vocalist is really good at putting emphasis on the right points in the lyrics, which makes the vocals much more memorable than the average amorphous harsh vox. members' side projects Funereal Presence and Occultation are also excellent.

Iron Firmament - Keepeater - the production on this EP is so bad that the drums mostly just sound like a strobing effect on the rest of the instruments, which is honestly really cool. they've got some more EPs which lose that effect for better or worse. this song is - as you might expect - about covering the sky with iron plates, and a giant serpent that eats castles. i can't make out enough lyrics to tell how those two themes are related.

Gevurah - Dies Irae Lacrimosa - Gevurah are insanely pretentious "orthodox" Satanists (they worship Satan as a literal god, not a symbol of human will or whatever). their theology is some sort of Gnostic anti-cosmic occult shit, which as it turns out makes for really fucking sick black metal. the drums are doing a lot here but the real highlight to me is the boiling tremolo riff that starts a minute in (and gets brought back later with a vengeance). there's one part when it's just the vocalist shouting in a Quebec accent that pushes the cheese factor a bit too far, but the rest is really great.

since leitmotifs is your thing, I would love to see your personal analysis on the evolution of the ringtone "over the horizon" by Samsung. quite frankly, I think it is a very important thing to analyze, as something so trivial as a ringtone has shaped our view of a phone.

Ok so ringtones are something that most people never really think about in their day-to-day lives. It's a noise we hear all the time, and something that we most often will take for granted with how much it is "overplayed" to us. Personally, I've only ever had an iphone so I am not at all used to Samsung's ringtone, which I feel gives me a unique perspective on the matter.

So without further ado, I'll take this year by year and then analyze my results at the end

2011 (Galaxy S2): This is off to a great start. We have a good theme, and the percussion behind it is perfect. This is the kind of ringtone you want to have in your pocket. The kind that says "we're in a disney summer movie montage and we're living our best life!" Overall, a great start.

2012 (Galaxy S3): This one feels like it's trying to do too much. It still has the core leitmotif from the first ringtone, but gone are the feel good vibes of the percussion. Every note that is rung in here feels like it's trying to personally attack you, and that's not even to mention the drums! Everything here is too sharp, and the violins come completely out of nowhere. This definitely feels more like what you would expect a ringtone to be, rather then something that makes you smile when you hear it.

2013 (Galaxy S4): OH WE'RE SO BACK. This is definitely more aligned to the feel of the first one, but it also did so much more without seeming like it was trying to! This is the first one that really uses the core theme more like a leitmotif, and treats it as "this is the melody that you're used to, as a little treat, but check out this too!" and that's exactly what it should be! All in all, this one's just lovely.

2014 (Galaxy S5): This is pretty much just like the 2013 one but I definitely noticed that the parts where the orchestra crescendoed were much stronger, giving it a much more prideful feel.

2015 (Galaxy S6): Ok I'm not saying this one is bad, but it kinda comes out of nowhere and has this vibe to it like you're either about to get a news report or witness a major moment in a coming of age edited in imovie. It also just kind of abruptly cuts off? There's no musical resolution here and that makes me sad. :(

2016 (Galaxy S7): This one starts off so good. It's got a good beat to it and we're vibing so hard dude. But then, it uh, uh, it kinda struggles? I get that was how it composed but it honestly feels like someone on a marimba is struggling to keep time and it makes me nervous like girl we do not need these eighth and sixteenth rests in here we are perfectly fine without them thank you (still better than 2015 tho).

2017 (Galaxy S8): HELLO??? GIRLIE WHERE DID YOU COME FROM THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET! THE BUM BUM BAAS??? Anyway this one is genuinely so incredibly incredible. It starts off with a good beat that it continues to keep up throughout, it makes good use of the leitmotif, and there's a bunch of guys vocalizing in the background like who's idea was that that's incredible!!! :D

2018 (Galaxy S9): This is literally just the emotional climax of a coming of age story it isn't even a ringtone anymore.

2019 (Galaxy S10): Oh she wants to be the sims 4 character creator theme so bad. Anyway this one also doesn't really feel like a ringtone but not in a bad way! Girlie is going off in the string instrument department and it is paying off this just feels great. And the way they do the original leitmotif in the chimes at the end? Oh I love her.

2020 (Galaxy S20): This one is kinda sweet and chill. It definitely feels like it's being played on either a sitar or a mandolin, and it uses that to create a very chill vibe. There are no background instruments or percussion at all, so that really just further proves that these are straying more and more away from the sound of a typical ringtone (for better or for worse). I will say, this definitely feels like something I would try to fall asleep to, not like something I would use to remind me to pick up the phone.

2021 (Galaxy S21): She's so pretty??? I would say that this also has a similar vibe to the last one but I like it a lot more. The piano is absolutely beautiful and I really really enjoy it. And even though this also doesn't really feel like a ringtone, I'd argue that it's better at being one than the 2020 one.

(We're gonna stop there cuz I feel like it.)

If I were to rank all of these, I would say from best to worst: 2017, 2014, 2021, 2013, 2019, 2011, 2020, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2012

Ultimately, I feel like something like this is very interesting to look at. We can see overtime Samsung trying different strategies with this and how that reflects on their future models for it. For example, we ended up with most of these reflecting what I've been calling the "coming of age story" vibe, and we notice how they strive to create much more of a beautiful song to listen to than something trying to alert you of calls. All in all, an interesting look at such a mundane part of life.

THE FALSE TOES SONG OF ALL TIME!!! I loveee the musical Falsettos and both Christian Borle and Andrew Rannelis's chemistry in it is UNMATCHED. I love the wave-like motif in the piano that rolls up and down in the beginning, it feels very teasing, somewhat unstable, and representative of Whizzer and Marvin's relationship that they are singing about. The composer for this musical honestly made so many smart decisions but I don't wanna barf musical annotations lmaooo

3. Play Back - NIJISANJI EN's Ren Zotto and Doppio Dropscythe

Outing myself as a vtuber and nijisanji fan (derogative). This is #1 on my On Repeat playlist on spotify oooop. This song is my favourite vtuber original song ever and it's composed by a renowned Vocaloid producer, Teddyloid (I LOVE TEDDYLOID). Ren's singing is SO GOOD here. I don't usually like whispering or asmr like stuff but the way it's incorporated into the chorus with Doppio who is known in his past life for that stuff?? Oh it tickles my ears in a very good way. The MV is also hot anyways Mr Ren Zotto in his fboi era with his new outfit and this song I'm not complaining 😌😌😌

4. CoolAs - KEY

Tame Impala core song. I don't think I've ever heard a chorus that has such a distinctive pick-up in the melody that's sung deliberately separate from the rest of the phrase?? and it's done really well? From a classical musical standpoint it doesn't make sense but I really love it. Sorry I'm analyzing music now lol. The lyrics "Cool as" denote the beginning of the next set of lyrics for the next phrase BUT in the song it's deliberately used to END the phrase. It's so cool. this may not make sense lol please listen to the song i swear my analysis makes sense

5. hell of a good time - Haiden Henderson

I made a vampire angela playlist and this song is the most frequented of them all lol it's so good.

literally soooo cute it's a song about the heart racing one feels when thinking of a crush and how said crush is the only one that can save the singer from the condition. And the choreography is cute too aaaa!!! I wish the rap line had more lines tho (im delusional its a vocals-focused song lol and wtf is the line "come be my slime" ummm jimmy wdym by that???)

10. YUBISAKI NO ARIADNE - Crazy:B

Outing myself as an enstars enjoyer and Crazy:B stan ✨️ I haven't played enstars in so long but the music is fucking awesome. I love this motley anime idol group of a king that abdicated his throne to be a jpop idol, a cannibal, an assassin, and a robot clone of a dead man <3 they are singing about the myth of Ariadne and I love how 🔥 spicy 🔥 the song feels with the piano, percussion, accordion and violin.

i made a moment with all my twitter ramblings while i was watching the shows, if you want, but it's pretty incoherent so idk 😅

the best i can do is summarise the plot? maybe? (a lot of opinions will probably still blend in tho lol)

so. SPOILER WARNING FOR THE VIRTUAL TOUR UNDER THE BREAKLINE!!! ALSO IT IS SO FREAKING LONG I'M SORRY!!!!

basically, classical music mysteriously disappears from the world and everyone now has to dance sacrilegiously and play pop with autotune.

brett and eddy are enlisted by hilary (eddy in a wig lol) to save classical music. in order to do so, they must go back in time and collect four music stones: the baroque stone, the classical stone, the romantic stone and the 20th century stone. the way to travel is to drink a magical bubble tea and turn back the hands of the 40hr clock, but hilary has only 5 of these bubble teas so they must travel separately. also, the only way to come back is with the stones, if they don’t collect them they’re stuck in the past. brett takes baroque and romantic, eddy takes classical and 20th century.

in the baroque era, brett meets bach (eddy) in jail. they perform together ave maria (bach play prelude on the piano, brett adds gounod’s ave maria on violin) bach writes a fugue a brett performs it. that earns brett the first stone.

in the classical era, eddy meets mozart (brett). eddy tries to steal the stone from mozart’s pocket while he’s performing by pretending he’s a lamp. mozart makes a deal with eddy that he can have the stone if he pretends to be mozart and performs violin concerto n.5 in his stead (bc he wants to go on a date instead). eddy does (1st movement abridged+cadenza) and earns the second stone.

in the romantic era, brett meets tchaikovsky. tchaik initially believes brett to be a compositional student and gives him his “melodie” to perform. while brett is playing, tchaikovsky blatantly falls in love with him. tchaik asks brett to help him write a violin concerto. brett and tchaik spend some time together, writing the concerto, waltzing, having fun, falling in love then they perform the 2nd movement on one violin (brett left hand, eddy bow). (this whole scene is just too *chef’s kiss* not to include the dialogue) both of them look stunned when it ends. tchaikovsky tears himself away from brett t: no! this can't be, we musn't! b: what do you mean? t: it is forbidden. if word was to get out, our reputation would be tarnished! b: oh i forgot we're in the 19th century.....see, where i'm from, we believe everyone deserves and equal opportunity at love t: what a wonderful thing to hear. but still i must go! take this romantic stone and remember me by it, forever. b: i forgot about the stone...

in the 20th century, eddy meets shostakovich. together they perform shosty’s duet. shosty is very down and afraid due to the censorship but eddy reassures him that in the future they love all his music, not just the forcefully happy and propaganda music that he’s forced to publish. shosty is touched and asks eddy to perform the cadenza of his violin concerto, so he can at least hear it once. eddy earns the last stone.

they come back to the present and eddy gathers all the stones near a big red button and presses it to restore classical music.

but. nothing seemingly happens.

brett tries to play but it’s still the same.

eddy cackles villain-style. “all according to my plan!”

eddy explains how he was tired of practicing so much and never be good enough so he pretended to be hilary and tricked brett into helping him get the stones to DESTROY CLASSICAL MUSIC.

brett is disappointed and hurt, he takes the last bubble tea and runs away to the past where classical music is still alive. initially he has fun but soon he misses eddy and he feels lost.

right then, he meets beethoven. beethoven encourages him by telling him his story of depression and how he found his purpose in life and by asking brett what is his purpose. b: to make classical music more relevant for future generations beethoven: then why are you in the past? so brett realizes he never should have left eddy when he needed brett the most, and that he wants to go back. to celebrate this revelation, brett and beethoven perform an arrangement for 2 violins of the 7th symphony.

meanwhile in 2021, eddy has become...basically a copy of henry lau. but he’s unsatisfied, misses classical music (and brett).

eddy realizes that they still have a chance to restore classical music bc there’s still the most powerful of the stones, the ling ling stone! he calls brett with his,, magic,, time-ravelling,, phonecall and tells him to go to italy, to get the stone from paganini!

brett runs to lucca and challenges paganini to a duel. they perform an arrangement of Pag24 for two violins and brett wins!

brett comes back and is reunited with eddy, they restore classical music and start again on their journey as twoset.

(and then there’s a cliffhanger ending alksf unsure what it really means tbh!!) (eddy is sitting on an armchair, looking depressed. he’s dressed in a suit, the same one he wore when he played tchaik but i can’t be sure if he’s supposed to be tchaik or himself) (he’s looking down so he can’t see, but in the mirror next to him there’s an image of brett, trying to get his attention) (the screen goes to black and “2022″ appears) (aklfjsdh WHAT DOES IT MEAN)

"Horizons" first impressions

Okay, so I finally have time to properly listen to the new "Horizons" songs, and this post is just me screaming into the void about my first impressions. You can either join me on the ride, or ignore my ramblings, the choice is yours to make.

First of all. GOD BLESS Starset for putting lyrics in the videos on Youtube. I have auditory processing like an earthworm and lyric videos are straight up a blessing.

Ok, let's start.

Otherworldly

- This makes my hopeless romantic demisexual heart VERY happy - Seriously though the lyrics - I want this playing on my wedding - However every Starset love song makes me so fucking lovelorn like I've never wanted to hold a hand so badly never I SWEAR - Okay okay I'm fine - The heavier sounds mixed with those whimsical violins are top notch - Overall very good. Beautiful. Romantic as fuck.

Icarus

- Hooo boy been waiting for this one - 15 seconds in, instant love - It's EXACTLY how I hoped it to be - iii-caaa-RUUUUS permanently in my head for the rest of today - The lyrics are a PERSONAL CALL-OUT - Amazing, majestic, game-changing

Annihilated Love

- Okay, this one is slower and darker - Kinda TOO slow for my taste but let's not judge too quickly - The war-themed lyrics slightly remind me of "The One Who Laughs Last" by Downplay - It's like... it's missing something. I can't tell what it is. - But for someone who went through a rough breakup, this song has to be THERAPEUTIC - The weakest so far, still very good

Alchemy

- Starting off strong - "Synthesized and transformed, pathetic life form" this is AWESOME - Whatever "Annihilated Love" was missing, this one has plentiful - It's like a sequel to "Telekinetic" - Great song. I'm pleased.

Disappear

- That subtle sound in the background is a brilliant detail - It's kinda hard to catch the melody - Heavy "Dark On Me" vibes - VIOLENT FLASHBACK to my 1st real crush who ghosted me for no reason. Mr. Bates, was it really necessary to be so PERSONAL??? - The emotion is so genuine here - The heavier breakthroughs are much appreciated - Awesome song. Brings some memories tho.

This Endless Endeavor

- IS THAT LINKIN PARK??? - I guess this one will take me a few listens to get into it - The parts about the north star are beautiful tho - It emanates some mood I can't describe but I understand well. This song will be great for a lonely walk. - Not the best on the album, still gets my stamp of approval

Symbiotic

- This one is HYPED so I have high expectations - I didn't expect it to be so... upbeat? - It's... basically a love song? - My expectations were met but definitely NOT in a way I expected - Definitely in the upper half of the album. Catchy as hell.

Dreamcatcher

- For some reason I absolutely love this one - Musically it's like slightly above average, but I'm a SUCKER for positive, uplifting songs and this one SLAPS - It's genius that "Dreamcatcher" isn't used as the Native American artifact, but like "one who catches dreams". Impeccable - Headcanon: "Dreamcatcher" is "Icarus" who got his shit together - Easily one of my favorites

Tunnelvision

-Was waiting for the fun song with a catchy beat like "Telepathic" or "Faultline". Found it. - I LEGIT EXPECTED HIM TO SAY GASLIGHT GATEKEEP GIRLBOSS - Probably the most fun to listen to - If I understand it right, this song is mocking the right-wing wackos and I'm HERE FOR IT - Dustin just went apeshit and it worked.

Something Wicked

- Another hyped song but I'm kinda nervous about it - Exactly as creepy as I expected - "The crucifix in my hand's a lie" woah calm down edgy boi - There is something so unnerving and depressing about this song I don't know if I'll be able to listen to it just casually. Maybe it's the religious imagery, maybe the utter hopelessness - It has definitely left a strong impression in me but this time I don't exactly mean it in a positive way - Love this song, but at the same time hate it so much. I'll definitely skip it when the Big Sad will try to sink in.

DUSTIN PAUL BATES DID YOU REALLY END A FUCKING MUSICAL ALBUM WITH A FUCKING CLIFFHANGER? THAT'S UNREAL

(while I'm at it, know that I've had 6.5 blogs across 3 accounts so far so Good Fucking Luck on your fannish dumpster dive when the time comes😂)

Oh gosh, Lynda’s songs... Well La Centenaire is literally one my top five favourite songs of all times and all languages I think, standing side by side with with giants such a The Show Must Go On or Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) in my personal wall of fame. It’s just so beautifully written (C’est que je suis avide/Mais qu’y a plus rien à mordre/C’est qu’mon passé déborde/Et qu’mon avenir est vide 😭😭), and addressing such an universal topic: what’s the point of living old if that’s in a world that is no longer yours, where everyone you’ve known is already gone? I can’t help thinking about my grandmother who’s turned 92 this year and whose mindset is definitely getting closer to this song every year.

And the song in itself is absolutely beautiful, the piano theme, the little violin arpeggi, Lynda’s voice at its finest bringing so much intensity to it, especially for an acoustic song... To me it’s just a masterpiece with a rare degree of perfection and I cry every time I listen to it because it’s beauty in pure form 😭❤️

And ugh, Les Deux hommes is basically La Centenaire’s little sister, a beautiful, beautiful acoustic melody and pure poetry, heartbreaking lyrics about same-sex parents facing homophobia... It makes me cry a lot too (btw thank you no thank you for this ask, anon, I listened to them both in a row to write that reply, and now I need a minute. Or two. Heck, make it an hour, okay?)

All right, all right, La Marmaille is nice, but how about I counterattack on the motherhood field with Si Je Ne Te Fais Pas d’Enfant, then ? 💔 (L’amour peut bien durer longtemps mais un enfant ça dure toujours, gah, she has her ways with words, huh?)

And oh, I didn’t know Les Maudits Français, this one belongs to the Funny!Lynda side, kinda reminds me of Les Souliers Verts which is the first song I’ve heard from her (pretty sure that was her first hit in France?) and which made me laugh so much back then 😂 (not for the story itself which is rather sad, but the lyrics are just sooooo funny and inventive)

Well, I’d say that if you know Starmania, c’est l’essentiel!!! 😍😍 I don’t necessarily find Berger’s music particularly fitting of an HPI mood, I guess that Message personnel kinda fits any bittersweet-angsty shippy situation? And of course, if you really want to dive into the drama, SOS d’un terrien en détresse for breakdown!Morgane, maybe?

Look, anon, you’re really expanding my Coeur de Pirate opinions today! Oublie-moi definitely carries this perfect mix of catchy music + somewhat angsty lyrics which is the exact brand of HPI: a colourful, irredeemable optimism tainted with delicate hearbreaks ❤️❤️ Adding it to the playlist RIGHT NOW

Hey look! I'm actually talking about a b-side again <3 today I wanted to go back and pick something from Gatcha! since I ended up going with a ONEWE track back on the actual double comeback day, didn't wanna leave my other beloveds out!

I actually had the opposite problem that I usually have! A lot if the time I'm like 'ooooo! I like this song!' But I don't really know what exactly to say about it to like express in words what I like about it, this time there actually was at least something that I felt like I could say about all the songs on this release (as opposed to, 'I like all of the, but which one do I actually have something to say about'), so trying to pick one was a little hard for that reason, plus I had a lot of thots (tho still not very eloquent and coherent thots...) so this time it was a matter of trying to organize those thoughts and word them properly which was my challenge, as opposed to trying to wrack my brain for things to say

Anyway, here it is 😌:

I am a Strings Loving Bitch so ofc I fell in love with LUCY and ofc I always have to keep my ears open to pick up all the good good violin bits when I listen to their music. I always have to have a listen when I sit and Just Focus on the violin.

And this track of course does not disappoint 😌

The part in the first chorus where Yechan is holding a note and then as it rings it gets really unnatural? Like an alien sound?? (Idfk what I'm talking about. just go with me agdhahs like. 0:22-0:28 (same thing happens at 1:46-1:48)) idk. It sounds cool 🤷 The violin part in the second prechorus when it picks up and helps drive it? <3 the part that supports the bridge(? I think the section I am thinking of is a bridge, but I am also An Idiot <3 so who knows?) <3<3 and the lil extra flavor helping to finish out the last chorus <3<3<3 (ahdkahdj okay. We get it Kjersten, there are multiple violin parts in this song by a band one quarter of which is a violinist)

The part at 0:33 where everything drops out and it's just very minimal drums and bass under Sangyeop's voice? <3<3<3 (as a side note: the bass and drums in general in this song?? Oooooo yummy yummy yummy, Wonsang, Gwangil, u really outdid yourselves kings 😌💗)

The completely unaccompanied "time to wake time to wake me drop(up)"

(Something something about electronic influences and also violin, a classical instrument, both being used in the same songs, something about modern technology and traditional classical sound coming together, new and old, combined on a track. I am not a coherent intellectual person but there is Something to be said here, even if idk how to say it... please chew on this with me..... 👀)

Gwangil's B-section(? Is that what it is?? It's not a bridge because it's Too Early (before the second chorus) and there is Something Else later that I'm pretty sure is the bridge.....is it just part of the second verse?? But it has a completely different melody from the first verse... 🤔 who knows?) It is very pretty! We love tasty bits of Gwangil vocals in this house <3

This song just gets me very hyped up, I love how it builds

At that moment I realized how pathetic I have sounded and closed my eyes, trying to clear my thoughts. The last time I set my foot in school was almost two years ago. Of course in the meantime I had classes, but there were only a teacher and me in a small, hospital room. This situation really makes me anxious. I have no idea how many students know my story or at least heard about me . Due to this, my plan of coming back to my hometown and chasing for my dreams once again, doesn't sounds like a good idea anymore. But I have to do this. I promised this to myself. I promised this to them...

„Y/n breakfast is ready!”

„Okey I'm coming!” I responded, being now ripped from my thoughts. It's just a new school. What can possibly go wrong?

„Do you want me to drop you to school?” said a middle-aged lady while sipping her coffee. Her long, red, curly hair were now bounded in a messy bun. Only single strands of her hair appearing on her face.

„It's Okey auntie. I can go alone.” I said with an insignificant smile on my face. My aunt looked at me with sympathy. She could only imagine how hard it was for me after the accident. Of course my whole family was affected by this, but I was the one who suffered the most.

„You know you don't have to do this if you're not ready right?” she asked.

„I know, but I want to do this. It's my last chance to get there... ” I said. Juilliard - my timeless dream. My sight was now located on a small, black box laying by the door, waiting to be used again.

Taehyung's pov:

I don't even know what I am doing here...

Yeah of course school is much more pleasant than being at home but even though it's filled with idiots, who despite lacking in brain cells still managed to get here. My high school it's the most prestigious musical school in this state but it's easy to get here if your family is rich. That's probably the reason why this imbeciles are here. Not that I pay much attention to them. I have better activities than watching this dumbasses. But still they're annoying.

„Hey! Taetae!” Speaking of dumbasses... At least these ones are pretty much tolerable. Maybe because they're friends of mine.

„What's up guys?” I responded to them while taking my notebook from locker.

„Have you heard the news?”

„Come on Jungkook. Don't you know that Taetae is never up to date with gossips?” Said a much shorter boy while brushing his fingers through his hair.

„Just tell me what you want to say and let's go to class”

„Jimin maybe you will tell him?”

„Why me? You're better at this thin-”

„JUST SPIT IT OUT CRACKHEADS!” I interrupted them, being even more annoyed then minutes ago.

„Wow Taetae... There's no need to shout...”

I just rolled my eyes on this comment.

„Okey, so there will be a new girl in our class...” Said Jungkook

„And why should I care about that?”

„That's the best part. It's y/n. She got tons of letters form universities when she was only ten. She's super talented, famous... And hot” said Jungkook and looked at Jimin with significant smile.

„I'm done listening to your speech about some random chick who makes your hormones rage. I'm going.” I said leaving two boys behind. They quickly catched up and all of us went to class together.

Y/n's pov:

I stepped into unfamiliar building full of people. It must be a break now.

How the hell will I find anything here??

„You must be y/n”

I turned around just to see a short girl with a blonde hair and a big smile on her face.

„Hm, do you know me?” That was all I was able to spit out.

„You're the only one here who don't know what to do with yourself and I saw you on news many times before.” She said laughing softly. So it's really obvious that I'm new. Great... And of course she has to know me. Even greater...

„I'm Kate. President of class you will belong to. I'm responsible to show you around.” she said while extending her hand. I just gently shook it and we both slowly began to walk through the corridor.

„You've seen pretty much everything now. I just have to show you the practice room which you can book if there would be a need for that. After that you're free to go.” Said Kate. We were now standing in front of a big room, full of huge windows and instruments. Beautiful instruments. I saw guitars, speakers, drums, violins, flutes, saxophones, many, many others and piano... Of course I would never betray my beloved violin but this piano was simply stunning. And this melody which was coming out of it...

Wait a second. A melody? How is it possibl-

At this very moment I spotted a person who was using the instrument. It was a guy. A very handsome one to be exact. His dark hair were gently falling on to his face. That face was really different from faces I used to see. I would wager that he was a foreigner. He was for sure Asian. Korean maybe? He was really different but... Beautiful. His face very symmetrical. His brows were thick and full. He had eyelashes anyone would be jealous of. Moles on his lower lip, above his right nostril, and under his right eyelid near his waterline. His upper lip was slightly longer and more rounded than his lower lip. His ears were sticking out a little. His facial expression was very serious and focused on playing. And those hands...

Y/n what are you thinking about? Are you crazy? Staring at some random guy? Really? What kind of thoughts are that? Snap yourself out of it girl! I shook my head in anger.

„It's Taehyung. He's one of the best students and musicians here. He's in our class, I would recommend you to stay away from him tho.” Kate broke a silence.

„Why?” I asked, quite intrigued.

„He doesn't belong to the most friendly people here. The only thing he cares about is this piano. Many girls were crying because of him.”

„Did he do something to them?”

„Nahh. Not really. He was just ghosting them. It's really entertaining to watch him, but only from distance.”

„I see...” I responded, not sure what to say more. Kate could be right. His whole face was screaming „I'm amazing but you can't have me.” Not that I would want to. I didn't came all the way here for boys but to practice and become a good old y/n again. I have to focus on subduing my inner demons and fears and no Teahyung or whatever his name was nor any other person will be able to distract me. Not now, not never.
