Unlikely Sanctuary

Setting: beginning of season 10 when Alexandria deals with the small waves of walkers.

Prompt: After dealing with the countless waves of Walkers stumbling upon Alexandria’s doorsteps. Getting supplies to and from Hilltop has been more difficult. A missing shipment of Medical supplies to Alexandria results with you and Negan setting out to go and find it. That is until things go completely wrong.

Warnings: N/A mainly fluff a bit angsty and relationship building/slow burn

I was also in the middle of writing this when I got a request that kinda perfectly fit with this so whoever asked… please enjoy!

Request: would you write some negan x reader?? angsty platonic negan being caring abt u. u get hurt maybe including "cmon look at me. open your eyes darlin" (I switched darlin for hon in this fic… I KNOW IM SORRY SHOOT ME. I just thought it fit a little better this time around 😢)

The numbing pain in your cheeks from the biting cold was all you could feel. Your body moved sluggishly as you worked tirelessly for the fifth consecutive night to protect Alexandria’s walls from the relentless waves of Walkers. Whether the Whisperers were behind this assault or not, your mind was too clouded with the struggle to stay awake to focus on that. You paused for a moment, pinching the space between your eyes with your head hung low, when a gentle hand settled on your shoulder. Turning, you saw Michonne, a look of worry etched on her face.

“Y/N I have a job for you.”

“What is it? Anything new news with the Whispers or-?”

“Possibly… we’re missing a shipment that was due yesterday. And with these ongoing herds I’m worried there’s a chance something happened…”

“I need you to rest for tonight and save your energy for tomorrow morning. I want you to look for the shipment and help deliver it here. Please…. I wish I could send you out there with someone but… we’re short-handed . If you’re unsure I don’t mind going instead. I just need you to take over while I’m gone.”

“That would be unnecessary, I have someone to accompany Y/N. Someone who’s in dire need of a job.”

Gabriel says a bit tense as he looks over to motion over at Negan who was currently on clean up duty discarding any piled up walkers.

“You can’t be serious….” Michonne mumbled under her breath.

“I can assure you I am. He is perfectly able to go out and work. Keeping him here to shovel up the dead when he’s more useful outside is just foolish.” Gabriel sighs heavily

"Listen up, Padre. I get that you're putting yourself on the line to get me in with your little mystery crew. But honestly? I'd rather be out here picking tomatoes and burying corpses. So, if it's all the same to you, I'll stick to that." He says in heavy breaths as he wipes the sweat off his brows.

“Tsk he’d be more of a pain then an actual use.” Michonne says under her breath.

“You can fight! And Y/N can’t go alone it’s too dangerous!” Gabriel begins to shout

“Peanut butter meet Jelly!….” He says motioning his hands to both you and Negan.

“He’s going end of discussion” Gabriel ends the conversation while storming off to another issue that needs his attention.

“Well shit…” You quietly heard Negan.

“Look Michonne don’t worry about me okay? I think I can manage with Negan it’s not so big of a deal” You say calmly. You've heard the tales of how ruthless Negan was when he led the Saviors, a cold-blooded force on the battlefield who didn't believe in mercy. Yet, mercy was exactly what he received from Rick Grimes. Despite all the stories, you remained unfazed. You were not someone to be controlled by cautionary tales, nor one to believe blindly in them. Even so you weren’t exactly excited to go on this run with Negan but at least him coming along meant the risk of making it back was a lot higher.

The next morning, you stood beside Negan, waiting for the gate to open. It was time to set off and discover what had happened to the missing delivery. The journey itself was quiet for a while, of course until Negan started getting a bit talkative….

"Hey, you ever think about what you'd be doing if all this hadn't happened?" Negan asks, glancing sideways at you.

You keep your eyes on the road ahead, but decide to answer. "I try not to. Seems like a waste of energy, you know? Thinking about what could've been."

Negan nods, seeming to appreciate your honesty. "Yeah, I get that. But sometimes I can't help it. Before all this, I was a high school gym teacher. Can you believe that?"

“Honestly kinda? Pegged you for the type who probably peaked in high school.”

“Ouch… maybe you’re not wrong but shit man! Did ya have to be so blunt?” He chuckles

“Besides what did you even do before the world when to shit?”

You hesitate, then decide to share. "I worked in an office. Not very exciting, but it paid the bills."

“Wasting away in an old office huh? What a snore, but hey! Excitement isn't everything. Stability's got its perks."

“Yeah I guess so-” and awkward chuckle escapes your lips as you wonder why he suddenly started pointless idle chatter.

"So," you say, trying to kill the short awkward silence "you ever miss it? Teaching, I mean."

Negan's expression softens. "Sometimes.”

“Miss the kids, mostly. They were a good bunch. But you can't dwell on the past too much, right? Gotta keep moving forward."

“Right… forwards” Something about him talking about moving forwards kind of ticked you off. He’s the reason why so many of the people you care about are stuck in the past and for some reason he’s allowed to just move forward?

Negan looks at you, his gaze more serious now. "Listen, I know you've heard things about me. About what I did. And I don't expect you to forget that. But I'm trying to be different now. Trying to make up for some of it." He sighs distantly looking forward onto the trail ahead.

You nod slowly.

"I get it," Negan says. "Trust is earned, not given. But for what it's worth, I'm glad we're out here together. Feels nice stepping out a bit and talking to someone who doesn’t immediately want to cut my head off.”

“For what it’s worth… I‘ve always been one to believe actions speak louder than words”

“Yeah? Well thanks… it means a lot.” A smile forms on his lips as he lets out a small yet warm laugh

The conversation fades into a more comfortable silence, and as you continue on your way, you find that the initial awkwardness is slowly being replaced by a tentative sense of camaraderie.

The day quickly fades, and you soon realize you need to find a place to set up camp. Fortunately, you passed an old cabin a couple of miles back. If you hurry, you might be able to make it there before the sun sets.

"Hey, it's getting late. We should head back to the cabin we found earlier. It's not too far, and if we leave now, we can probably make it before dark."

Negan pauses and looks up at the dwindling light in the sky above him. “Hm, yeah, you’re right. Good call. Better than being alone in the forest, easy prey for these deadheads, right?"

About half an hour later, you're halfway to the cabin when you notice a Walker roaming closer to you in the woods. You find it strange how quiet these woods have been. This is the first walker you've encountered during your run. The woods have been unnervingly lifeless and still, with little to no animals in sight. You’re far enough from the masses of herds that stumbled into Alexandria, so they shouldn't have disturbed the wildlife here. Yet, you stand on edge with a chill up your spine, as if you can feel many unwanted eyes staring at you.

“I got this one” You say pulling out your hatchet

The Walker staggered closer, its guttural moans breaking the eerie silence of the woods. With a swift, practiced motion, you drew your hatchet, its blade gleaming in the fading light. The hatchet whistled through the air, embedding itself with a sickening thud into the walker's skull. For a moment, there was silence, the hatchet was pulled free, the only sound left was a faint rustle.

As soon as the first walker appeared, another followed close behind. Then two more, then three. Before long, a small herd had formed, lazily shuffling side to side like a mindless group of cattle.

“Stay on guard… we’re not alone.” Negan said drawing out his crowbar stained with the blood of the dead.

“They’re here…”

“There’s too many of them… we have to act fast, make a run for it if we have to.” You stand at a ready position ready to either commit to fighting or flighting.

“I hear ya, but we don’t know the difference between the Walkers and the Whispers yet…” he pauses slightly at the end and exhales deeply “Stay close you hear?”

You nod at Negan, shifting a bit closer to him. "You're right," you say, eyes darting around the shadowy woods. "But we can't afford to stay here. Let's move."

With that, you both take off through the underbrush, the walkers' moans growing louder behind you. The forest floor is uneven, roots and rocks hidden beneath a blanket of leaves. Your breath comes in quick gasps, and your heart pounds in your chest. The adrenaline pushes you forward, but a misplaced step sends you crashing down. A sharp pain shoots through your ankle

“Fuck- shit shit shit” a small whimper escapes your mouth

“Negan!”you cry out, clutching your leg.

Negan skids to a halt and rushes back to your side. "Dammit," he mutters, glancing at the rapidly approaching walkers. "Shhh you’re okay don’t worry just hang on." He hefts you up, throwing your arm over his shoulder

Despite the searing pain, you try to keep moving. Negan's strong grip and determination push you both forward, but the walkers are relentless. He swings his crowbar, bashing in heads and keeping the undead at bay. One walker lunges, and he shoves it back its skull cracking under the force of his blow.

“I don’t know how long I can’t keep going” a deep and shaky inhale leaving your breath

“Just a bit further hold on. Just say with me”

Negan spots a narrow ravine up ahead, partially hidden by dense undergrowth."There," he says, pointing. "We'll lose them in there."

“A choke point… smart we’ll lose them all hopefully Walkers and Whispers alike.

He helps you hobble toward the ravine, the ground becoming steeper and more treacherous. As you descend into the shadows, the moans of the walkers grow fainter. The dense foliage and uneven terrain slow them down, giving you both a chance to catch your breath.

"We need to keep moving," Negan urges, his voice low and urgent. "They'll figure out a way around eventually."

You try and stand, a sharp pain consumes your ankle as you stumble on forward, fortunately enough Negan catches you before you completely fall.

“Shit- hey settle down okay? I’ll carry you the rest of the way. We’re only about a mile or two away we’ll make it”

“N-no I’m fine I can do this, I don’t need help” You stand up again this time you stumble forwards and fall into your hands and knees”

“Jesus Christ do not fucking do this right now”

“Whatever this is? Pride, embarrassment, Fear? I need you to fucking swallow it and let me help you.” He’s agitated but nonetheless somewhat patient.

“No… just-“

“Just what Y/N? If you think I’ll just happily fuck off and leave you hanging you’re wrong”

“Just think… I can’t keep walking, we make it to the cabin then what? What if they find us how… long until I just drag you down and end up taking you down with me?” You respond in a low shaky voice looking down at the floor

He shakes his head and sighs “cmon… look at me.” He notices how tightly you have your eyes shut as you silently shake with fear.

“Open your eyes hon….” he says, squatting down to meet your gaze. His hand gently rests on your knee, offering a steady, reassuring presence.

“I’m sure as hell ain’t leaving you behind… besides if I did I’m sure they’d hang me back home” he chuckles a bit then shakes his head at his own stupidity

Negan looks at you, a serious expression crossing his face. "I ain't leaving you, alright? You're something rare in this shitshow of a world. You've got hope in people. Even in people like me. Hell, I thought you'd rather take your chances alone than with some shit-faced old man who's done a lot of crappy things. But you... you’re putting me first, and that’s something beautiful in a world like this one. You’re a good person, Y/N. You don’t deserve to die cruelly or horribly. And definitely not alone. So if you're staying, you best fucking believe I'm staying too."

“W-what?” You look up in shock of what he just said

"You can't stay here! You have to leave, please," you plead, your voice trembling. "I'll only slow you down." Desperation and fear lace every word.

“Hmmm think I am gonna stay right here” a coy smile displayed on his lips

“Unless… I don’t know” He taps on his chin “ I carry you the rest of the way to the cabin?”

“I’m being serious here you can’t-”

“Oh so am I. What is it going to be hon? Are we stayin’ or??”

“Fine- shit fuck okay…” you put your arms in your hands embarrassed at how full circle this scenario just became.

“Good answer!!” He chuckles squaring done so you can easily climb on his back.

With renewed determination, you both push forward. The forest is still eerily quiet, but the sense of being watched has diminished. As the sun dips lower in the sky, you finally spot the outline of the cabin through the trees.

"There!" you whisper, pointing at the small rundown cabin.

Negan helps you into to the cabin quickly setting you on a sofa not to far from the entrance. The small, rustic interior feels like a sanctuary compared to the dangers outside.

Negan collapses against the wall, breathing heavily. "That was too close," he says, wiping sweat and blood from his brow. He looks over at you, concern in his eyes. "How's that ankle?"

“Shit” you say inspecting the injury “But thankfully not too shitty, I just glad we made it okay”

He nods, a ghost of a smile on his lips.

"Yeah, we did." He stands, offering you a hand. "Let's see if we can find something to patch you up. We're not out of this yet."

The night finally settles in, the oppressive darkness of the forest pressing against the cabin walls. Despite your best efforts, you couldn't find anything useful for your ankle. Negan managed to rig up a crate as a makeshift stool to elevate it, offering some small relief. He strides to the fireplace and swiftly gets to work, expertly bring a fire to life without wasting a moment.

"Rest up, okay? I'll take the first watch," Negan says, his voice softer than usual, a protective edge to it.

You nod, exhaustion pulling at your eyelids. The adrenaline has worn off, leaving you bone-tired and achingly aware of your injury. As you lie back, the faint crackle of the fire and the steady rhythm of Negan's breathing become a comforting backdrop. You close your eyes, trusting him to keep you safe, and slowly drift off to sleep.

a little rant abt kevjean

saw this post by @back2beesness and i have about a billion thoughts so i'll make a separate post instead of making an excessively long addition

disclaimer: these are simply my very personal opinions and feelings on them and you do not have to agree !

i've never shipped it. not in the way that i wanted them to get together. but not because i doubted they ever loved eachother (romantic or platonic). i just don't think it'd be good for anyone from the nest to be in a relationship. this is one of the reasons i cannot stand thea and kevin but that's a different rant for another time

nora confirming in the sunshine court that jean loved kevin absolutely shattered my heart. i always kind of assumed he did. it was a headcanon, if you will. but having that confirmed was a fucking gut-punch like none other. i'm not religious but i pray for anyone who ever has and ever will fall for Kevin Eyes-For-Nothing-But-The-Court Day.

when i first finished the first three books, before entering the fandom space, i liked jeanee. they were cute enough, but i knew almost nothing about jean yet. they were that one couple that just,, made sense. i could see it happening and i didn't hate it. she's her superhero, you know ? then i entered the fandom space. i was reminded very abruptly of jean's transfer to USC. to jeremy knox. i never looked back; not really.

i quickly found out abt the infamous (now removed) "extra content". i read all of it. now, i know the fandom has long been very split on whether we want to take anything from the extra content as canon, but jean's section ? oh man. it was confirmed jeanee wouldn't be endgame and at that point i was long moved on from them. i was shoulders-deep in jerejean already. but jean's section ?

holy fuck. it cemented my opinion that no one from the nest, especially jean, should ever be in a relationship with another raven. he deserves to cut any and all ties to that place and never look back.

he can't do that. he'll most likely never be truly free from the moriyamas for as long as he lives. not unless someone takes out the entire family. and he doesn't want to let go of kevin. he's moved on from wanting him in the way he once did, but they can still be sort-of-friends.

i still keep thinking about what could've been. if it weren't for the moriyamas, for riko (for renee and jeremy). could they have been more than sort-of-friends ?

And then, after the Stohess thing, after Annie is tricked and captured, and while Armin is staring at her crystal, he looks at his arm and sees her soulmark

I love this because it fits with one of my favourite soulmark tropes, which is birthmarks that depict abstract symbols of the person (instead of first words or a name). So Armin having a cuckoo clock for his grandpa and a hot air balloon for his parents (pain), and maybe a tree on the hill (which later turns into a bird) for Eren and a praying mantis for Mikasa, is very interesting to me. But I'll suggest that perhaps Annie's soulmark appears earlier on him, but he doesn't know what to make of it or how to interpret it.

It's the day after his encounter with the Female Titan, and a cocoon mark etches itself in the middle of his chest (maybe slightly to the left).

Armin doesn't understand. He didn't meet anyone new and frankly he has bigger worries right now than random soulmarks, like this whole mess with Annie.

It isn't until after he has gone to Erwin, after the staircase debacle, after Stohess, when he sees Annie encompassed in her crystalline prison that it finally dawns on him. Suddenly he sees why he felt so betrayed, so broken, so terrified when he discovered the identity of the Female Titan. It all makes sense now.

So he visits her in an attempt to get closer to the girl that meant so much to him without him even realising.

Every few weeks he makes the trip to Stohess, descents the stone stairs and kneels in front of her like a devoted supplicant. He is left to wonder who she really was, whether they could have a chance together and why she did the things she did.

She never stirs.

Then, years later, in the middle of the apocalypse a child tells him that all hardening has melted away. Armin is shocked. He runs to the bathroom and unbuttons his shirt.

There, in the middle of his chest, slightly to the left, a moth has spread its wings over his heart.

The anon that send you about how they aren't that close as friends and how they always dance around each other's. Wow anon I adore you.

That's exactly, it's there. But I was calling it the wall, like they put a wall on each other's, as if they cannot comprehend what the other is thinking but at the same time they're actually so similar. I have to say, yesterday I watched a lot of the old videos and that helped me to kind of understand this journey they are.

At first Chance wasn't afraid to look at him, he would always take an opportunity to said something to flirt, as a character or with a comment (this is important for the future).

In some videos, Shayne would be surprised how he would relate to whatever Chance has to said, an opinion or liking and then, it started slowly. Them laughing at the other jokes, also the looks came more from Chance, Shayne didn't looked that much like he was afraid of looking idk.

But the more vids later, probably like the challenge pit or the reddit one's, Shayne will be looking at Chance when he talked, I mean he was talking to everyone but he would look to Chance directly. You can see in his eyes to what direction he's was looking at.

The way he feel attacked by Mr. Peanut. The way he actually was the only one that new it was Chance secret about sleeping with a katana, for me it shows, they were actually paying more attention to the other in a silent way, by looks and listening to the other. Oh darling they would listen as if it is the most important thing.

And yet for some reason, if you see a video of them from those times and one from this times, you couldn't see any difference in the fact that they still don't know how to properly idk have like a banter. But I do feel like they understand the other more.

For example Chance doesn't flirt anymore, at least not like in the first vids, it shows he understands maybe or he just has a different mindset. To be honest I can't put into words how it is this way they interact. 'Cause Shayne it's looking a lot, but he doesn't try to be close, they just trying to see what the other is doing, like admiring from far away.

As is they are afraid of the other in a good way. I feel like they would get lost in a conversation about why they feel the same thing about a topic, and yet that would be it.

They laugh at the other's jokes more freely, they aren't super friends or anything, but maybe this will only show how great of a duo they could be, I know that Shayne is an easy person to make him laugh, but let's be honest here, nobody does it like Chance.

Another thing I would totally write is how in the theater video, you just can see how they don't know how to properly act in the scene, like yes they are acting those parts, but I do feel the emotions of just wanting to run away from both of them, they don't know how to properly act that way. It's uncomfortable in an interesting way I would say 🤨 not in a bad or good day, just curious.

I would be watching more videos, if I found where they shift I'll share it with you.

What first drew me to Kiawe irl wise was from the anime when I saw it in 2022 the first episode that he appeared, he seemed really cool lol that's about it actually.. then I watched more and he seemed so funny but also a genuinely nice caring character. Honestly his pokeani character is more light hearted, less aloof, more emotive.

Now I ship with his game character (with some aspects taking after the anime like he has a younger sister and late grandfather), it feels more mature and solemn at times when he talks about realistic woes like worrying about affording his studies abroad. And being able to go up the volcano to see him and run around him in-game makes me feel more connected to him LOL

Lore wise. They first met up the volcano when my s/i wanted to find a nice vantage point to view the sunset. They strike a conversation and Wren learns of his trial captain status and I guess from that initial meeting was already drawn to him. Wanting to know more about him and what he does, and cuz he seems like nice person. He talks in a stern sort of way but he's just kinda awkward. and he showed care for Wren. Cuz coincidentally becuz I Willed it some pokemon were blocking the path down slope and it was getting dark. So kiawe said I'll walk you down after the sunset. And Wren just. Romanticises things so he's like Damn I'm gonna start having an infatuation on this guy. I mean it really is that easy for me irl 😭

Like there was no complex reason why s/i me started liking him. Since they're basically a copy paste of me they just like him easily and simply LOL.

Kiawe was mostly indifferent to a lot of trial-goers and other people in a romantic sense. He wasnt not looking for anything. He likes getting to know people and their pokemon but he doesnt get infatuations.

So when he saw Wren that evening up at that volcano, who wasn't even there for the trial, he was just curious why someone would hike all the way up for a sunset.

And cuz he said he'd walk them down for their safety and the safety of the pokemon residing there when the sky got dark, he sat down with Wren and he were 'forced' (by me. by fate) to talk.

Wren shares they're here on a conservation programme and will do some research on alolan ecology and how to conserve it. In particular some of their fieldwork will be done at the volcanic area (with some other Aether foundation researchers or Prof Burnet) and Kiawe's interest was piqued becuz that seemed like a great cause.

I'm not sure exactly how much they talked that first evening they met, but it did spark interest in the other's role.

For Kiawe, he appreciated the company. and it was Wren who first asked whether he could come up here more often to talk to him, so he looked forward to it. Since Wren's disposition was so easy-going and lighthearted he wanted to get to know them more as a friend.

Basically. Ultimately when they first meet, only Wren started getting intetested in Kiawe on an attraction and infatuation level. Kiawe was only interested on a platonic level. Which makes The Realisation™ all the more better. (While Wren never misses a day of Pining)

Did we ever talk about these moments Hmm Yes Kiawren talks abort a range of things and Wren's the kind of person to be like "You know actually When I met you that day..."

And when confessing their crushes on each other he'd also point out how they liked Kiawe since like. Almost the beginning LOL😭

I guess it's also nice to think about Kiawe saying my interest for conservation was felt for his first impression of me talking about doing the conservation programme on alola. Becuz that aspect of my personality would the the best I hope people might notice about me.... 😁

if someone is non-sharing, they should be allowed to create those boundaries without being harassed or called "immature" or "delusional" by sharing people. beyond how supremely ableist that is, nobody has the right to say they can't view their f/os in a certain way, no matter if other people don't understand those feelings.

if someone is sharing, they should be allowed to share their feelings for a character openly with other sharing people without being sent hate from non-sharing people who think they're "loose" or who want to be their f/o's "one and only". shaming people for being open to sharing is fucked from multiple "sexual / romantic purity" and "anti poly-[sexual / romantic / platonic] relationships" angles, and nobody has the right to claim sole and total ownership over a character they did not make.

and yet, every couple of weeks, we get posts from a vocal minority making a huge fuss over "the other side", when it's just a vocal minority FROM that other side ALSO making a fuss. and then those vague posts leave their intended orbit and cause more mis-worded posts and misunderstandings and off-the-cuff bigoted statements, and the cycle starts again.

we should theoretically be able to respect each other while focusing that energy on, oh i dunno, chasing harassers out of the community? getting selfshippers who aren't part of a specific marginalized group to help selfshippers from that group when they're harassed, maybe?? especially when the sharing vs non-sharing Thing very often coincides with bigotry; people who are harassing others tend to not just stop at being petty or mean, they make it personal.

and -- not as important but a nice little bonus -- i would think that working towards a community that's more safe for everyone in it would also "coincidentally" (/s) get rid of the shit-stirrers, whether because they were kicked out or because they realized what they were doing and grew as people.

delusions aren't morally "bad" or "wrong". holding deep feelings abt a character isn't inherently delusion-based and also isn't morally "bad" or "wrong". and neither of those is the same as -- speaking from experience (above content warnings come into play here) -- being obsessed with a character to the point that you self-isolate and emotionally self harm because you wish so badly that the character was real and you believe there isn't a point to life if you'll never meet that character... and this is also not inherently delusion-based and ALSO not morally "bad" or "wrong".

these separate things -- delusions, deep feelings, and unhealthy obsession -- CAN intersect but just as often don't. none are immoral, and all are deserving of being approached with compassion and respect, in whatever way is most appropriate.

negative, harmful ACTIONS that some people take in these states are worth bringing up to them when it's safe to do so, depending on the details of their situation, but the states themselves don't have any moral weight. ie, if someone's harassing others for sharing their f/o because they're in a dark, obsessive place, that is a morally negative ACTION, not a morally negative mental state. they need to take responsibility for harm they've CAUSED, not for what they're experiencing internally.

but if you're calling people "immature" or "delusional" as an insult, something tells me you're not really considering that! whether through malice or just a lack of compassion, you don't see worth in how another person approaches this community.

you aren't better for thinking of a character a certain way, and neither is the person you're being ableist towards. if no harm is being done to you or others, you're just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. listen to other people, learn, and do better.

if you think someone is genuinely in a bad mental place because of selfshipping (wrt isolating and self harm), approach them as another human being. meet them where they're at. don't patronize them, don't call them "delusional", treat them like someone who has their own thoughts and values.

they may want help, or they may not, and you have to respect them for their choice no matter what YOU think is right. there is no truly right way to approach someone who's in a dark place, but you can at least avoid saying things that FOR SURE will make them feel talked down to, belittled, or shamed. if they aren't ready now, maybe they will be ready for help in the future, and shutting them down will make them less likely to seek that help.

Hey! Ty for the question! This is like the longest running discourse huh... I'll do my best to share my perspective! Putting some of it under a cut because I accidentally wrote too much ^^;

I do see the ickiness of the phrase 'shipping two kids' when you put it like that, but I think that's because the word 'shipping' has this... umbrella connotation of like. HEAVY romance with adult and often sexual implications attached to it. Which is a huge red flag when u think abt kids that way?? and obviously you shouldn't??? and there’ll always be some nasty fans who do, but I think a lot of us see them the way we see most ships in kids' shows.

Because BECAUSE the thing is, we see romance all the time in children's media. Kids have crushes. Kids get into stupid relationships at 13 where all they do is peck each other on the lips awkwardly and pass notes to each other in class and hang out on ‘dates’ at each other's houses to watch TV. And it's totally normal! So when people say 'ew shut up gon and killua are only friends, stop thinking abt them like that, they're children' you have to wonder where that's coming from. Bc would they be saying the same thing about a boy and a girl of the same age?

To bring up specific examples: think about aang from atla (is a 12 yo with an enormous crush for a majority of the series, and gets together with her in the end) and sam and danny from danny phantom (are 14 yo), and these are shows with like. An actual on-screen KISS at the end. Nobody bats an eye at that, and not to be dramatic but the double standards are showing. It's implying that 'queerness' is what's vile and adult but like. Queer adults were once queer children, right? Gon and killua are 12 at the beginning, and nearing 14 at the end, so the discourse of 😡don’t ship 2 kids!🤬 stops being valid when you think about it in a larger perspective, in relation to similar media. Like sure, you’re welcome to see them in a strictly platonic way, but if the ONLY REASON ur not ok with a wholly harmless, innocent romance is because they’re children, and harass other fans abt it, then to me it sounds like a load of bull to cover up ur homophobia.

(also whenever I say ‘you’ i mean an abstract third person, not YOU you anon, if that’s not clear hjghfdgs 💖)

As for hxh specifically, my take is that the subtext is deliberate. Togashi would have to be pretty ignorant of his own writing if it weren’t; killua is so heavily coded as developing a very romantic, very boyfriend crush on gon and considering togashi’s history with queer rep it wouldn’t be far-fetched for anyone to call it intentional. And who are any of us to take that away from queer fans who see themselves in these characters? 

And as for me, using the word ‘ship’ makes me feel weird (which is totally a silly personal thing) but I think my feelings on killugon can be summed up by this exchange—

—which is a very underrated moment imo and explains killua’s feelings perfectly. They go from talking about dates to killua thinking to himself that he’d rather just stay with gon forever, and like... to me that’s IT. He doesn’t care about dating or romance when he can just be with gon. No dating experience with anyone else will be AS MEANINGFUL TO HIM as being with gon. Tell me if that isn’t the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard. 

So it’s my personal opinion that, all things considered, what gon and killua have transcends any platonic or romantic connotation; it’s more like a ‘you’re IT for me’ in whatever way you choose to see it. Do I think killua has a big fat crush on gon?? yeah. Do I think anyone seeing their friendship as ONLY a friendship is valid? also yeah. 

The only thing is that justifying them being strictly bff bros because 'they can’t be more bc they’re children ew’ isn’t gonna fly. Bc if you take it to mean anything more than an innocent depiction of young love then you're the one making it weird. As long as we’re not sick in imagining gross things then what’s wrong in just wanting them to hold hands?

Don’t worry you’re not alone. I watched the movie yesterday and I still can’t stop thinking about it, especially bc of Stephen & Christine. I’m in this endless cycle of suffering atm and I can’t get myself out. My family (who watched it with me) have been utterly bewildered on why I took it so hard but it is what it is, I’ll never be the same. 😭

But anyways, you asked a very good question that I had to rlly think about for a bit. Personally, I do rlly want Rachel back in DS3 but…., that being said, realistically no. I think at this point Marvel has given Christine + Palmerstrange a full circle with DS:MoM. They showed Stephen moving on at the end (but we all know he still loves her, it’s up to our own views on whether or not it’ll be romantic or platonic), Christine in his world is married while universe-838 Christine is back where she belongs. Then they introduced Clea in the first post-credits scene and honestly I’ve given up hope right there, even though a teeny tiny part of me thinks that there still could be a chance with Palmerstrange. The only way I’d see Marvel bring back Christine is if they made her a person that Stephen could talk too, like a best friend or just a confidante even. Now that they’ve brought out Clea, the future for the two of them is quite uncertain. It’ll depend on what Marvel does in the future films that’ll decide their fate. If they make Clea just a main character helping Stephen save/fix up the multiverse and not a love interest we have hope. If they want to make her his permanent love interest in DS3 and more than that’s it. They could also go down the road of another variant of Christine or introduce Night Nurse but those are huge IF’s. And yes, I absolutely love Rachel & Benedict, they have such good chemistry to me and when they come on screen it’s like magic and sparks everywhere! They’re the reason why I love the movies sm so it’ll be amazing if they were in another movie together whether it’s in a DS movie or another.

For Elsey, I think their anti-ship in most universes would be... hm... Levi and Mammon are the ones they have chemistry with but it wouldn't really work out for various reasons.

Elsey and Levi is the big one just because on paper, Elsey could really go for a dude like him.

Levi actually has a lot of energy, drive, and passion, great attention to detail, all that stuff. He is FULL of love and appreciation for the things he likes and can't stop gushing about them.

So like, Elsey could like Levi. But the self-deprecating stuff, his self-defeating attitude, that's where it all starts to fall apart.

Elsey can gracefully handle pretty much any other character flaw, but they'd interpret a lot of Levi's "I'm not good enough for you" or "Of course, who'd want to hang out with me..." as "You make me feel like I'm not enough" or "I don't believe you really love me".

Of course, that's not what it means, from Levi, or from anyone else with self-esteem issues in a relationship. But his self-deprecation isn't really healthy, either, and from Elsey's POV, their feelings are just constantly being trampled on or cast aside.

For Mammon, I think the ship just isn't necessarily the best for either of them.

Elsey is the kind of person that could use someone to remind them that they're not always right about everything. Mammon will never do this dsfkghlhg

I remember the HDD event where they're talking about "What would you do if your lover turned to the dark side?"

Levi and Luci talk about redeeming you or some nonsense but Mammon is like "All right fine. I GUESS I'll go evil with you. But not because I like you or anything-"

dsfkjhgg so like, as a couple, they would be pretty happy together, and their relationship - whether or not it's platonic - would be very strong.

But Mammon is also the least likely to challenge Elsey. If Elsey ever has a villain arc and starts enslaving the Devildom and Mammon is at their side, tough fucking luck Devildom. Mammon isn't gonna do SHIT to stop 'em.

That's what you get when your partner is a simp,,, HONESTLY IT'S NOT ALL BAD ghdlkhg it just doesn't help them grow as characters. Instead they are one another's support, and they do the job almost too well.
