Live A Little | A Worth It AU | Ralph Penbury x You | Masterlist
In This Edition: You and Ralph venture out of your cabin! Words: 1.3k
Tumblr media
You wake to the sound of angry whispers.
"It's not proper!"
"Those kids have been through Hell together!"
"They're not married!"
Ralph's eyes open. You hold your breath and listen closely, watching each other beneath the covers and not daring to move a muscle.
"And?"
"And it's despicable! Having to share a room with… with…"
"With my niece, and the boy who saved her life?"
"I thought you said his sister was on board! Send him there, or back to the lounge!"
"My girl wouldn't leave that boy to get on a boat and save her own life, and you think she's going to let him go because you said so?"
A proud smile spreads across your face. You knew Aunt Molly would always be on your side.
"Ugh!" The other woman groans in frustration, and you hear the door open.
"If you think for one minute that I'm--" Molly shuts the door, and your eavesdropping is abruptly cut off.
"She's got it wrong," Ralph whispers. "You're the one who saved me."
"Aunt Molly is never wrong," you smile.
"Then perhaps we'll have to agree to disagree."
"That won't do," you argue, reaching out to cup the side of his face. "Because we saved each other."
You're already close, but you both move your faces forward just a tiny bit for a kiss.
The door closes again.
"Food's here, kids! I let you sleep through dinner last night, but I draw the line at missing breakfast."
Aunt Molly sits on her bed and tells you about how the other survivors are being treated by the generous crew and passengers of the Carpathia while you eat, but you find it hard to concentrate. You do notice that she makes no mention of the argument with her roommate… whose few possessions have disappeared.
Molly leaves again when you've finished eating, and you and Ralph return to bed. You've never been so exhausted in your life. You're grateful for your tiny bed, and the boy you're sharing it with.
There are no windows in your cabin. The only marker of time is whispered words on well-timed bouts of consciousness with Ralph. You remember getting up to eat once more, and to visit the lavatory. You have a vague memory of Molly suggesting that you switch beds, now that Hettie had found other accommodations, and guiding you and Ralph to the slightly larger mattress.
You'd continue to sleep inches apart anyhow.
"Should we go find Victoria?" you ask, during one of those rare occasions you're both awake at the same time.
"No," Ralph sighs. "I don't want to see her."
"I don't want to see anyone but you," you breathe.
"Likewise," he says.
And then you both drift off again.
"I can't stop dreaming about it," Ralph admits another time.
You know exactly what he's talking about. It haunts you too.
"What would you like to dream about?" you ask.
"You," he answers.
"Perhaps if we concentrate on happier things, we'll dream about them?"
"It's worth a try," Ralph sighs. "I want to see snow. Real snow, not just a flurry. I want to be in a warm house, with you, looking out the window at the falling snow. At Christmastime."
"That sounds wonderful," you smile, closing your eyes and trying to picture it. "I'll make us hot cocoa... we can bake cookies… maybe it'll be so hot, we'll have to take our clothes off…"
"Mm…" Ralph hums.
You both drift off again, hoping to experience the romantic scene you've set instead of the horrifying vision of the sea swallowing an unsinkable ship.
It's not until after dinner, delivered by Molly, that you feel truly awake again. Your aches have subsided. Your brain isn't foggy anymore. Your body still wants to remain in bed, however, so you lie there on your back next to Ralph, looking at the ceiling.
"I think I'll enjoy being on solid ground again," you muse.
Ralph doesn't respond. You turn your head to see a worried expression on his face.
"Ralph? Are you alright?"
"Do you still want to marry me?
His question makes your heart stop. Is he having second thoughts? You turn your gaze back to the ceiling, rather than stare at him in fear.
"Of course I do, Ralph. Do you still want to marry me?"
"Absolutely, but… do you think your parents will allow it?"
"I'd like to see them try and stop us," you respond without even having to think about it.
Ralph looks taken aback by your comment.
"I love you, Ralph Penbury," you smile, squeezing his hand and gazing at him in adoration. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Whether it's an hour or a lifetime, I want it to be with you. And I don't give a damn what anyone else has to say about it."
Ralph's eyes begin to water. He leans over for a kiss. It starts sweet, but soon turns desperate. Passionate. Something you haven't felt up to in days.
"I'm so happy I met you," he breathes.
"So am I," you smile, cupping his jaw and staring into his beautiful eyes. You can't imagine spending another day without him.
"Let's do it," you suggest.
"Do what?"
"Let's get married."
"Have we not just established we're going to?" he asks.
"Now."
"Now?"
"Let's get married now," you clarify. "They can't object if it's already done."
"Do you mean it?"
You nod.
"But… weddings take months to plan."
"Do you want to wait months, Ralph?"
His brow furrows, and you can see him weighing his options.
"You'd be willing to forego the dress, and the flowers, and the church? Your family being present? All those traditions? For me?"
"I don't need any of that, Ralph," you smile. "All I need is you."
"Are you sure?"
"Ralph, please don't think that I'm trying to pressure you into this. We don't have to do this if you don't want to. We're both tired and hazy still. If you want to--"
"No," he interrupts. "Are you sure you want me?"
The unsure look on his face pains you. How can he not see that he's your entire world? You lean forward for a deep kiss.
"Now who's mad?" you ask, pulling back with a smile. You cradle his face in your hands. "Of course I want you, Ralph. You're the only one I've ever wanted. And I'll still want you tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that. We don't have to do this now, if you're not ready. I'll wait forever for you."
Ralph stares at you for a moment, then laughs.
"I love you," he says, leaning over to pepper your face with kisses.
"I love you too, Ralph," you giggle, lying helplessly under his attack.
"Well, my love, shall we find ourselves a minister?" he asks when he finishes.
You grin and roll out of bed. You visit the lavatories and fix yourselves up the best you can, and set off in search of a holy man. A steward directs you to the person you're looking for.
You had no idea a wedding could happen so quickly. All the ones you'd attended back home had taken months to plan, like Ralph said. Hundreds of guests, many of whom the bride and groom probably didn't even like. Thousands spent on venues and decorations and dinner for hundreds. So much commotion, the people it was for barely had time to speak to each other.
And then there was this. A quiet ceremony in a dark corner of a ship's library, days after an event that would surely be one for the history books. In the clothes you'd been wearing for days. No fanfare at all; just you, the man you love, and the man reading scripture who would happily sign the necessary papers for a young couple who chose love in the face of tragedy.
It was perfect.

Tumblr media

Warnings: None :)
Rating: Teen and up

A/n: hey guys, welcome to Shutter Speed!! A love triangle between LN DR and reader (in this story reader is called Georgie.) This is my first f1 fanfiction so any feedback/suggestions are very welcome or if you just want to add comments, reactions - anything goes!! Thank you for reading and enjoy :)
Chapter one: A staring contest with an attractive stranger ...
It was raining in London. Not that that was out of the ordinary - even in the beginning days of July. Today the weather had decided to imitate that of mid-March, the rain crashing down like the heavens had opened up above and the wind cheekily chasing tourists and commuters indoors then proceeding to race eagerly through the streets, nipping at any ankles of those who were lagging behind the rest.
Lando Norris was out with his trainer when the rain started, enjoying the freedom of a 2 week break before the highly anticipated British Grand Prix. They rushed down the alleyway they had found themselves on; until they came across a little coffee shop tucked away in the corner - 'The Little London Stop.' Jon nodded to confirm to Lando that this would be just fine - as he opened the door, a small bell rang just above his head and instantly they were hit by a comforting warmth and the smell of freshly made coffee.
He quickly slid onto one of the benches, facing out onto the shop. It was typically London, designed with someone's Instagram feed in mind, plants hung precariously from the rafters along with many singular light bulbs that casted at atmospheric glow around the room.
Opposite him, on the other side of the room sat the only other person in the shop, she sat with her back to them. Her messy mousy brown hair tumbled in waves down her back, her gaze on the rain rushing down the alleyway - her chin resting on the heel of her hand.
Georgie had been sitting in that exact spot for longer than she would care to admit. Escaping the pestering grasp of her best friend and roommate Maisie; they were both photographers - partners in an online business they set up when they first left college as they prepared to take on the world. Pre-covid it had flourished and the pair had been travelling up and down the country, from events like weddings to festivals. Post-covid however - this was where their problems had started and why Georgie was currently hiding in a coffee shop. Work had become as dry as her love life, events had been cancelled for another year and wedding guest numbers had been limited. For weeks they had been sending their portfolios to any event organiser they could find and for weeks they kept being turned away.
She tore her eyes from the flooding streets and back to her open laptop - she was completely stuck, where to even start? Georgie nibbled on the on her bottom lip and sighed before rubbing her hands over her face - she was really looking for a miracle to happen.
Lando was completely intrigued by the girl. It wasn't until Jon snapped his fingers in front of Lando's face that he realised he had been staring.
"Right, sorry." Lando mumbled, a red flush creeping up his neck and he moved his gaze to the wooden table, wringing his fingers together. "What were you saying?"
Jon chuckled at his young boy antics and shook his head, "I wasn't, you were staring and it was weird. I picked you up this green smoothie - lots of vitamins and-" But Lando had switched off again, he couldn't help himself as his eyes locked back onto where they had been before. It was like something was drawing him to her - hell, he didn't even know what she looked like.
"Are you going to go and speak to her?" Jon's voice broke his trance yet again.
"Wha-what?" Lando looked up at his trainer, his innocent eyes widening at the thought. "I-I-"
Jon scoffed and rolled his eyes, "You are such a teenager."
"I'm not a teenager." Lando hit back, "I'm 21. I can drink in the US now, you know."
"Then start acting like it." Jon scolded but the corners of his mouth quirked up, he had known Lando for years and he had not changed once. A hopeless romantic at heart but acted like a deer caught in the headlights as soon as anyone of the opposite gender even glanced his way. Any girl would be lucky to have him but unfortunately for Lando he always found himself drawn to the type that would take his heart whole and would leave, shattering it into millions of pieces for Jon to find and piece back together again. It was through no fault of the girls in question, they would make their intentions very clear but Lando - being who he was - would always jump head first without looking ahead or the consequences of his actions.
On the plus side, Lando came back stronger each time but it left him with an even stronger longing for that care and affection that everyone around him seemed to have.
His heart raced as he looked over at Jon, a determined look was set on his face. "Fine. I'll do it." He stood up, legs wobbling slightly as the adrenaline flooded through his veins - he had cleared the table when reality decided to walk through the door. He turned on his heels and sat back down. "Nope. Maybe another day." His voice wavered slightly.
Jon looked at him with sympathy and slight second hand embarrassment - not that Lando needed to know that.
Georgie looked over her shoulder at the commotion happening behind her - there were two young men sitting across the room from her. One was clearly older than the other and was looking at him in utter bemusement - she followed his gaze...
Georgie inhaled sharply, she was met by a pair of crystal blue eyes - of which lit up when he realised that she had looked over. Georgie simply didn't know what to do with herself as she seemed to be stuck in a staring contest with an incredibly attractive stranger. She managed to tear her eyes away to look at him properly; a mop of dark brown curls sat dripping onto the table (still wet from the torrential downpour), an olive complexion and an innocent sparkle in his crystal blue eyes. She offered him a shy smile, a rose tinge coating her cheeks. He gave her a lopsided grin in response.
There was an overwhelming feeling that drew Georgie to this stranger, it wasnt anything she had experienced before - not even when she had been with him.
A cold chilling suddenly rushed down her spine, almost like she had been standing in the rain falling outside. A pang of guilt filled her stomach, she dropped her gaze and bit her lip. How could she ever think of him like that, compare him to a stranger she didnt even know the name of.
A ring broke her train of thought, her phone lit up with Maisie's name. She inhaled slowly to ground her feelings before answering, trying to sound as normal as possible.
"Hey Maise -"
"I've done it." She heard Maisie shout down the phone, followed by a relieved laugh.
"Done what, sorry." Georgie prompted, rubbing her eyes. She could feel the boys' eyes on her, resisting the urge to turn around; she closed the lid of her laptop and placed it in her bag.
"I've only gone and gotten us an event to go to this weekend." Maisie replied as casually as she could muster. Georgie paused. A large grin that would challenge the Cheshire cats'.
"Where and how?" Georgie felt a weight lift from her shoulders, it didn't matter what Maisie had signed them up for, it was a start. A fresh start.
"Look, I have a call with them any minute so I'll have to explain when you get back. It's at the Goodwood festival of speed." Maisie paused.
"Goodwood Festival of speed." Georgie echoed - she could hear ringing in the background.
"Got to go, final things to sort out. I'll see you later." With that she hung up, leaving a delighted Georgie frozen in place, until she found her senses and packed up as fast as she could. All thoughts of the boy across the room - gone.
He sat, puzzled, as he watched her rush out the door and into the rain - calling out a muffled 'thank you' as the door swung shut behind her. His brows drew together as he looked into his lap, before saying quietly to Jon: "It was the Goodwood Festival of Speed she just said, didn't she?"
"Yes." Jon answered shortly, looking down at him in fascination.
"Isn't that where I am this weekend?" Lando looked up, hope swelled in his chest.
"Yes, it is."
Lando looked longingly out of the window, beaming. He knew it was silly to get so hopeful - there were going to be thousands upon thousands swarming around Goodwood. He stood up and turned to Jon - "Lets go."
"But you haven't drank your smoothie -"
Lando was already at the door, bouncing on the balls of his feet. Jon grabbed the smoothie and tittered, following after him.
You only live once, Lando thought. As it turns out he would get another chance this Saturday and this time he wasn't blowing it.

Roommates Code: How it Began (Seyoon’s Story)
Tumblr media
Title: Roommates Code: How it Began
Pairing: Liju x Seyoon & Donghun (But can be reader x Seyoon & Donghun)
Genre: Humor, slight spice
Word count: 2187
Writer: Kpopmadness (Ju)
"Would you stop playing that video?" I groan, ready to throw my textbook at my schoolmate who sat on my head watching a music video for the hundredth time.
"I have to watch it closely. It's for science." She answers me, her eyes staying glued to the screen in front of her.
"You could help me with our homework project due in a few days. For science." I mimic her wording, making her narrow her eyes at me before shutting her laptop down to get her books.
This is how our relationship was. And how it probably always would be. My relationship with my classmate was fairly new. Both of us meeting one day at a study group in the library at our school. We continued to see each other for the next four weeks. The group we were with ignoring us most times, leaving us with just each other to talk to. Now we had moved our study sessions to my house. Us studying for school together becoming a weekly habit on top of sitting next to each other during lunch break at school as a excuse to hang out.
The room is silent for five minutes before she pipes up again; "You know, with the amount of times we talk to each other and see each other, we could move in together as roommates once we graduate." She tells me.
I look up from my book to meet her eyes, surprised to see she was actually being serious. I lean back in my chair as i say, "We would probably kill each other."
She shrugs, her long hair falling over her shoulder as she does so. "We might." She says, "Or we might not. We've been hanging out with each other for five months now and haven't manged to argue yet. And we don't seem to stress each other. And i don't see you or i getting boyfriends means how we like being alone so much."
I laugh,  the idea amusing and sounding fun. But it seemed a little outlandish means how we still had another nine months of high school left.
"We'll see where we are when we finish school. We might hate each other by then." I say before turning back to my book.
``````
The problem with us, however, is when we kid about something, it often times happens somehow. Two months after graduating high school we found good paying jobs and a available apartment.
"I'll let you two look around a bit more." The landlord of our new apartment said as she walked down the stairs, "Congratulations on getting the place."
We both thanked her with smiles on our faces before shutting the door and letting out an excited scream. Our place small but roomy enough for us, making it feel like a palace compared to our small bedrooms at home. And the biggest difference was this was our place.
"Which room do you want?" She asks me as we make our way down the hall.
"You can have the bigger room. You have more things than i do." I tell her, stepping into what would be her bedroom.
"You've never had a big bedroom before though." She says, sounding guilty.
I laugh, "Please, my room has a bathroom. That's a luxury by itself."
We both laugh as we continue walking around our rooms. At one point I stand in my room trying to think of how to arrange things when i hear her call,
"If we shut our bedroom doors can we still hear each other?" She asks, poking her head into my room.
Our bedrooms were stationed right next to each other, the thought of being able to talk even from our rooms making me giggle.
"Lets see." I say through a laugh. Shutting my bedroom door, hearing her do the same a moment later.
She taps on the wall next to my room, the sound echoing through my empty room. "We could learn mores code!"   I hear her say as she starts randomly taping the wall with her hand.
I laugh and lean my back against the wall, "If our walls are this thin that means our neighbors can hear us. Which means they're going to wonder why your using mores code to summon Satan."
I hear her laugh as she walks out of her room and into mine, "But if we ever get boyfriends it might be an issue. We'll hear more of each other than is wanted."
``````
Four years later:
I sit at the kitchen table one afternoon scrolling through my Ipad when the front door unlocks and my roommate steps inside. I open my mouth to greet her but quickly shut it when i see the man standing behind her.
"Thank you again for walking me home, Seyoon." She says, smiling at him as she leans her body weight against the door.
"It was no problem." He says sweetly, smiling back at her.
I bite my lip and slowly move off my chair to try to sneak away to my bedroom to give them some privacy. I had just stood up when she turns her head and looks at me,
"Where are you going?" She asks, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
I straighten and force a smile on my face, silently cursing her for drawing attention to me.
"Nowhere." I answer  in a sweet voice, my eyes narrowing at her.
"Hey Seyoon." I wave at him.
Seyoon waves back at me, "Hey, good to see you."  His smile widens as he looks back at my roommate before saying, "I should get going. But it was really good to see you all. Thank you for letting me walk you home." He says. I don't miss the way his hand slightly reaches for hers that rests on the doorknob or how he lingers at the door though. All of this making me smirk.
She thanks him again before shutting the door completely and whirling around to throw her bag at me. I let out a cry when it hits me on the shin.
"What the heck do you keep in there? Bricks?" I grumble as i rub my leg.
"I keep them in there for when i need to beat you to death." She fires  back. "I told you to stay in the same room as me if we ever see him. Then you try to wonder off!"
"He looked like he wanted to be alone with you!" I shout, a smirk on my lips.
She narrows her eyes at me before running up and kicking my feet out from under me, making me land on my back, air leaving my lungs.
She kicks me in the butt, making me scream.
"He walked you home! That's a clear sign he wants a relationship with you!"  I scream at her. Her face going red.
"I don't care, because i don't want a relationship with him." She mumbles quietly.
I stand up from the ground and brush myself off, "Are you sure about that?" I ask, making her hesitate but still narrow her eyes at me.
This had been an ongoing conversation between us for the past month. Kim Seyoon was her workmate, he also only lived a block away from our apartment. For the past month, he had been making it very clear he liked her. Making lunch for her, sending her texts to check on her when she didn't show up at work. He even brought over some soup once for me when i was sick and she had stayed home to make sure  i didn't die. Clearly trying to get on my good side as well.
Needless to say, i liked him for her. But her being the stubborn person she is, refused to admit she liked him or wanted a date with him. So for the past month we had talked, argued, and screamed at each other about the matter. Even though she denied it, i could see her walls cracking slightly. She was growing more of a weak spot for him than she wanted to admit.
"I'm going to go. I ordered a Pizza for dinner for us." I tell her as i pick up my car keys.
A smile grows on my roommates face at the mention of her favorite food. "This doesn't change anything. I still don't like you."
I laugh and roll my eyes, "I know." I sigh out as i walk out the door.
```````
"This one?"
"No." I answer after observing the dress briefly that she had pulled from her closet.
"I don't know what to wear!" She groans in frustration. Raking her fingers through her hair.
After three months of bucking liking Seyoon, she finally caved in to him. Tonight being their first official date that he was going to pick her up for in an hour.
"I still say this dress," I tell her, holding up a red low cut dress with a thick black belt around l the waist.
"But i don't want to wear it." She whines, stomping her foot slightly.
I sigh and put the dress down on her bed. "You look good in it and you know he would like it. You just are too scared to wear it."
My roommate glares at me, mumbling words under her breath as she goes to put the dress i picked out on.
For the remaining hour we walk around our apartment finding things she needed to complete her look. Which included her borrowing one of my necklaces, me doing her hair while she worked on her makeup, and us arguing back and forth like always.
The doorbell rain as she was putting her shoes on, the noise making her jump and look at me panicked. I smirk at her as i wonder down the hall to my door so he couldn't see me when she opened the door. She gave me a passing glare as she went to open the door, Seyoon greeting her warmly in a white button down shirt and black slacks. His blonde hair falling over his eyes in fluffy locks. His eyes widening slightly and his voice going nervous when he saw her.
I smile to myself as i watch the pair walk out the door. I retreat into my bedroom for a night to myself while she was gone.
```````
I stumble into the kitchen sleepily the next morning. My eyes refusing to stay open. I go to the fridge and pour some cold coffee into a cup when my roommate comes out of her room, her eyes sparkling.
"Good morning." She say brightly, going to the fridge to pour herself a glass of milk. Her long hair doing little to hide several of the dark patches that cover her neck and collarbone
I stand by the counter with a glare on my face as she does so. My gaze on her making her meet my eyes.
“Why are you looking at me like that? And why do you look so tired?"
"Maybe it's because certain people wouldn't stop moaning and panting last night." I snap. Making her almost spit her mouthful of milk all over the floor.
"You heard us?" She coughs.
"Our walls are paper thin!" I say, "Your bed is close to the wall so i could hear everything. Until 3AM i heard many many things."
"No.. you... you didn't,  did you?" She asks, her voice cracking and her eyes wide from shock.
"That's a good boy." I mimic, using one of her choice words that night.
She gasps loudly, her face and neck going red. "I thought you would be asleep!"
"I was. But all the noise definitely woke me up." I tell her, finishing off my coffee to put the cup in the sink.
"We need a code of some sort if he's going to be coming over here a lot for your make outs." I tell her.
She gives me a nervous look, her face still red. "What kind of code?" She asks.
"Something. An agreement that we will leave when the other one wants to spend time alone with their boyfriend or something."
"You don't have a boyfriend." She jabs, a smirk tugging at her lips.
"Shut up." I snap, making her laugh.
For the next hour we sit on the couch going back and forth on the rules of this code. The code being simple enough, but holding a measure of  trust that the other one would respect the others privacy when asked. We had just finished setting special text tones for each other as part of the Roommates Code when Seyoon walked out into the living room. His blonde hair sticking up in funny places and several dark marks littering his neck.
“Do you guys always laugh so loud?" Seyoon teases, a smile tugging at his lips as he rubs his eyes.
"I know someone else who's loud."   I mumble under my breath, making my roommate stand up quickly and chase me to my room, screaming at me the entire time. Leaving a chuckling Seyoon to stand in the living room alone.
