Simon Riley x Princess!Reader. Part 1 ish here
-
“Simon,” you warned.
Eyes darting back and forth between his as he approaches you ever so slowly, his gaze never wavering. “Do you know what you’re getting into?”
His hands meet your hips as your back meet the edge of his desk. Your lieutenant, The ever so striking Ghost. The man appointed responsible for teaching you the ways of the military, the men, the experience and the duty. The military you’ll one day be head of as Queen.
His Queen.
You often wonder if he’d want more than just this semi-casual relationship you two seem to have been conducting in secret for months now…
But of course, you’re expected to marry a proper, man of good breeding stock and with an appropriate background not long after this. Not this gorgeous, tattooed and rough-handed man, pushing your body onto his desk, standing in between your legs and holding your chin up to his face. The man who adores you so, puts you and your safety first, who guides and loves you. The only man you’ve ever truly come to love in return. Simon Riley, your Simon.
“I certainly do, Princess. You, I hope.” He smirks, the mask long forgotten. You squirm at the implication and it isn’t long before lips meet lips, clothes scattered, the grinding and pleasure, the sighs and moans that fill your Lieutenant’s office.
He eventually has you spread out on the desk, naked and full of sweat. Full of him and full of satisfaction after the fact.
And you would think clarity of the mind… Perhaps not?
“Marry me, Simon.” His eyes shoot open, glaring at yours, only to find you completely serious.
“What?”
And you are serious, besides the smile that cracks on your face and the small laugh that escapes.
“You can’t say you haven’t thought about it, right? The Prince Simon?
I know I have.
Let’s shake the institution to its core, love.
Oh come on, It’ll be fun.”

Absolutely nothing hotter than when the female protagonist is being threatened, and the love interest does that small step forward wedging himself in between her and the threat. The little smirk of “try me. I dare you, MINE.” Type shit without having said a word. You know exactly what I’m talking about honey! I need to to include this in a chapter or I’ll explode.
And it’s not necessarily that she can’t handle herself or that she’s his property. Because if you get it you get it..🫠

“Mom, why do you think ghosts are intrinsically evil?”
“It’s what the science says, of course!”
“No, I mean like, what were the studies? What did they actually observe”
“Ohh, I get what you mean, Danny! Well across all reputable reports of encounters with the ghosts strong enough to matter, they’ve always attacked first and never responded to attempts at communication! There’s no reason for them to do that if they’re not evil!”
“Huh…”
Danny, learning about Ghost Speak and how humans can’t understand it: hmm.
Danny, learning that ghosts greet each other and bond by fighting: hmmm.

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?
