3, 9, 24, and 29 for the writer end of the year asks <3333
EVYY thank you so much!!!! i'm glad to see you:)
3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?
oh this is a very interesting question i had to think about it for a while tbh mmh i think i learned that i can write realism / realistic stuff, it is a bit stupid because i've written modern au all my life as a writer but it was always short, not fully developed etc. or i needed another au to back up. And also I'd ignore some reality that I'm faced with every day in those os, like i was not worth it to write about "serious" stuff. And I didn't mind it for a long time because I still enjoyed the stuff I wrote that are "simple" or with more aus, but I think I found myself a new thing to explore. Even if it's a bit hard because the idea of fully modern / no aus means that I have to carefully think about every scenes and where I want to go exactly, which I don't often do when I write fantasy or idk hogwarts au for exemple, because the plot is more important than the relationship. However this year showed me I can do it! I can think and explore deeply feelings and developing relationships. I have no idea if I make sense right now!! or if it's clear but I hope it is!
9. What fic meant the most to you to write?
aah.. i'm gonna try not to answer always the same fics hehe tbh I really really was glad of writing vistal sul mare because I absolutely love the song, it has been out for a year already and I found the lyrics extremely romantic and beautiful. I knew there was something to do there. And when I suddenly got the idea it was so clear, it felt so good to write this fic maybe because it involves a song and trains which I love and when I think about the state I was in when writing it was a really happy and peaceful feeling. A lot of people told me this fic was nostalgic / had a nostalgia vibe also so it was a nice compliment. I will also add still lingering around (me) was meaningful because my personal hobby is to read mystery / thriller novels but I never wrote any fics like that!! so when I saw the prompt I knew I had to try. I had a more complicated plot line at first but it ended being a "simple" mystery (with not much investigation) then meant to but it was still a new genre to write and I liked it a lot.
24. What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?
Oh!! great so I can explain more for still lingering around (me). So yeah I was scared of mystery plots because I felt like I needed a looot of thinking to make something believable (my first plotline of this fic is like four pages long, it involved a murder investigation lmao) but it made me unable to write anything for a few months. Then the deadline was coming closer and I had to force myself to write and idk.. I realized I didn't need to overthink stuff or to make it soo complicated, that I could go for what I thought was the easy way and the plot would be good enough. So I guess it changed the story a lot but more like a whole part of it never showed up in the writing process!
29. If this were an awards show, who would you thank?
AHAHA i love this question it's so good definitely my two irl friends who read as I write most of the time and comment and hype me up, like I have trouble to keep on writing when I don't get feedbacks immediately so thank god they are here also everyone on my twitter acc :( god everyone has been so cute to me this year... I didn't realize my work could be well liked like that i got some pretty serious compliments also my faithful meowgical readers, for still being there and waiting for every update even when it's long and commenting and being nice to me, wow insane
thank you for the questions!! i really enjoyed answering them<3

keith/lance
✰ the world could be ours (post season 5 oneshot) [2.3k]
“I haven’t spoken with any of you, one-on-one, in ages,” Keith admits softly. At this point, he isn't sure whether he's indulging Lance or himself. “At least that’s what it feels like.”
Lance grins. Brilliant and radiant, like maybe he could care for this broken boy after all. “Then come back to us.”
or: Keith's resolve is crumbling, and Voltron may be where he belongs after all.
✰ “the way i said i love you” (series of brief oneshots) [~8k]
(14) a whisper in the ear // (31) in awe the first time you realized it // (13) in a letter // (20) as we huddle together with the storm raging outside // (15) loud so everyone can hear // (3) a scream // (21) over the shoulder // (19) with no space left between us // (8) in an apology // (2) with a hoarse voice under the blankets // (23) through a song

✰ the planet lenides (preview of the full piece for the @extrasolarzine a klance charity zine project) [~2k]
✰ someone i forgot to be (post season 6 oneshot) [1.6k]
“I wanted to tell hi— them how much I worried about them.” Shiro pauses, gaze wandering to some point in the distance. “But I had trouble admitting it to myself. And to them.”
“Why?”
“Let's just say that… although it shouldn't be an issue anymore, it is.” Shiro returns his attention to Lance. Staring straight into his eyes with staggering intensity.
or: Shiro helps Lance confront puzzling emotions with reassurance and stories of the past.
✰ and still we orbit (ongoing, post season 6 fix-it fic, chapter 1) [8.6k]
“The whole thing really makes a guy think. About, well, everything. Lance almost wishes he could go back in time and tell little Lance what he’d experience in the future. Tell him stories of their missions and battles, stories of the stars.”
or:
After years in space, the team is finally headed home, but not without plenty of obstacles along the way. Weapon tycoons and giant tarantulas, heated battles and cooking lessons, rekindled relationships and broken trust. Yet through it all, the paladins never stray far from each other's orbits.
✰ this, our town of halloween (long oneshot, halloween and bday fic for @angst-in-space ) [7.9k]
“Yeah, well, it’s written all over both of your faces,” Lance hisses. “It’s not a big deal.”
Pidge taps her chin. “Oh, you mean Keith, the local introvert and your ex-rival, creeping out of his cave to go to a huge Halloween celebration with you and your little niece and nephew? Of course that’s not a big deal. Silly me!”
Or: Lance invites Keith to Disneyland on Halloween and glimpses an entirely new side of the boy he has a stupidly massive crush on.
✰ am i scaring you tonight? (long oneshot, halloween gift exchange fic for @bleulily ) [9.1k]
“It wasn’t me.” Keith lowers his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Lance, it wasn’t me.”
“What do you mean it wasn’t— oh. Oh my god. Wait.” Lance slaps a hand over his mouth. “It’s happening.”
Then, Keith feels it. A small gust of air brushes the shell of his ear. It trickles across the nape of his neck and down through the open collar of his shirt. He’s hit with another full-body shudder. Holy shit.
Or: Keith is roped into spending Halloween with ghosts, and Lance acquires a new good luck charm.
✰ please come home for christmas (oneshot, holiday gift exchange fic for @kci-ths ) [4.5k]
Feeling brave, Lance carefully turns his head. Keith glares at where his hands rest against his thighs. Lance tracks the motion of his fingers, twiddling with a piece of fuzz on his jacket sleeve, the edge of his phone screen.
Lance prompts, “When you got there?”
“You weren’t there.”
or: The Holidays are here, Keith struggles to surprise people, and Lance runs into the last person he ever expected to see at the airport.
gintoki/katsura
✰ “the way i said i love you” (series of brief oneshots) [~1k]
(16) over and over again until it’s nothing but senseless babble
catra/adora
✰ thankful for you (brief oneshot for thanksgiving) [1.3k]
What’s wrong with me? Adora squeezes her eyes shut.
“I'm thankful…” She manages between pants, “I'm thankful for—”
As if the thought alone summoned her, an unmistakable voice crackles through the air. “Hey, Adora.”
or: When Adora is asked what she’s thankful for, the answer surprises even her.

for the fanfic questions: 4, 12, 19, 24!
AHHH I get so excited when someone gives me an ask meme, I am going to faint.4. total number of words you wrote this yearOH BOY I don’t keep track of this at all, I do a looot of rewriting. It looks like I published 99,316 words on AO3 throughout 2018. There was also work on some short stories, an attempt at Nano that went far until I decided I wanted to world build it proper, and a half fanfic or two PLUS tons of scenes that got thrown out or rewritten from scratch. Let’s say 150,000-200,00.12. favorite character to write about this yearThe response to Menderash and Estrid has ABSOLUTELY floored me! People really seem to like my fancy drama queen mechanical genius take on Menderash, which is just deeply meaningful to me because he’s an OC. Like. He shows up in canon for the last 500 words….. he’s an OC. It’s also been really challenging to write a disabled character? Normally when I write outside of my world view, I make sure to have someone in my life with whom I have an equal exchange of emotional labor who can guide me. With Menderash’s amputation and chronic pain, I just have Reddit and Youtube and blogs. But it’s been really good to go outside my comfort zone and do real research and listen to people without the safety net of “this is a real life story so-and-so said I could use!” Ahhhhhhhhh but I’m learning a lot. As always, slap my face if something reads off to you.I was INCREDIBLY worried about adding Estrid to the crew on the Rachel, not just because she’s far from a fandom favorite (I hate the term Mary Sue but uh) but because I didn’t really rehab her. I took this morally gray character, this absolutely charcoal lady, and I was like “What is she was MORE shady?” and honestly people have just been like “FEMINIST ICON! GENOCIDE KWEEN!” I couldn’t be happier. I’m also finally at the part of the story where the crew is all set and she can be used for her true function, The Group’s Cordelia/Anya.19. any new fics to start next yearI think last year I did one of these and mentioned a partner fic to Good Luck With Being Happy about Marco? I’ve been wanting to do it since a few months after finishing Happy. Either way, I didn’t do it this year. But it’s very much happening literally now. I don’t know what it’s going to be called, but I am thrilled to put my obsession with industry insider moments in podcasts and film degree to good use. I hope you enjoy my next fanfic, Liana Knows What An Apple Box Is. Betas bout to be like “Liana, this 2000 word chunk where Marco gives a monologue about how everyone treats the sound guys like shit and disregard the art and importance of sound mixing is maybe not relevant.”24. favorite fic you read this yearI VERY embarrassingly don’t read much fic, which I need to fix. I really love long, novel length fics so if anyone has the hook-up for something you’ve seen me reblog before, let a bitch know. Actually if you look at my blog it’s just Ariana Grande and gay memes so. Well. Show me stuff you like, who knows if I’m into the fandom or not, but I’ll be excited that you’re excited!I got to beta for Learn To Live Without Shadows, as well as watch Cav go through the process of writing it, and it was so good and meaningful? Cav’s work with Edriss and Marco is unparalleled, and their decision to have Marco transition under Edriss’s patience and understanding, thus leaving him with a blood tinged taste in his mouth for the rest of his life, is absolutely brilliant. Also major shout out Revisions by melponen for giving me pure lesbian xenophilia space-time multiverse fantasy, yas bitch, I LIVE! That fic is so fucking good and hits every single one of my favorite things. Long live the Caftran revolution. In this fandom, the #1 het canon ship is lady/bird, the #1 m/m ship is blue horse/boy. In 2019 let’s get the #1 f/f ship to be lady/slimy brain slug. We deserve it.

So there’s this BioShock fanfic.
Back in 2009, I went into BioShock HARD. I fell in LOVE. Any of you from Ye Olden Days remembers this period too well, probably because you wished I would shut up about it. If I could have married a video game, I would have married this one. (I would probably still be happily married to it, too. Or under a restraining order. I haven’t decided which.) I had a crush on Ken Levine. I fancied getting the chain-link tattoos on my wrists. I bought a number of super cool figurines. I practically lived at the Wiki. Then I picked up Ayn Rand and fell in love with her stuff and took my fandom to this new level where I started thinking very, very hard about what an Objectivist paradise would really look like. (Yes. Ayn Rand. This transition alone should probably merit a longer explanation but I won’t, other than to say I am grateful for the philosophical support and transitional period I needed to exit fundamentalist Christianity, but bye and don’t come to my house ever again.)
Well, I wrote five novels between November 2008 and November 2009. I think of it as the beginning of my proper writing practice--that is, I began writing regularly and to a specific end. Now, excepting the first novel... uh, sort of... they’re all abject shit. And writing them FELT like shit, I might as well add. And I was going through shit in my personal life at the same time because I had decided to leave a religion that is essentially a socially-acceptable cult. Long story short, trifecta of shit, and I felt like garbage.
When I look back, I realize BioShock was less of entertainment and more of a lifeline. I was so into it that I took my recent decision to Never Write Fanfiction Again and broke it over my knee. Who even cares, right? Enjoy your goddamn life, it’s all you have. (”And heck!” I told myself. “If you do really well maybe someone will see you!” lololololol oh jesus. In 2010, for god’s sake)
I researched this thing hardcore. I bought a number of books on deep-sea diving, period sailing, Iceland, the historical periods and places the characters had emerged from, slang, dress, alcoholic drinks, police forces and their practices in the 30s and 40s... and tons and tons of period music, too, because what better way to get in the mood?
I worked on it HARD for about two years. I had some of my most satisfying writing moments on that thing. And then one day, I woke up and realized IT, TOO, WAS SHIT. I had been so wrapped up in getting every detail correct, and thinking of myself FAR too loftily, and being wrapped up in how the end result would knock everyone’s socks off, that I had neglected to, you know, WRITE AN INTERESTING STORY.
I cried about it, won’t lie. Put it away and played a looot of video games. I can’t believe I kept writing, honestly.
I never posted it. The most I shared was one chapter where I detailed the murder of Anna Culpepper (which I still like, coincidentally). The official end stats are three drafts, 245,000 words, and 37 chapters. And that doesn’t count the extra material, which would push it up to about 400,000. Easy. It’s enormous. Embarrassingly so.
“AND FOR FUCKING WHAT LOL,” I would say sometimes when I thought of it. I mean, I know about Soviet Russia now? And Icelandic history? And I know I’m not a Libertarian or an Objectivist or a Communist now so lol that’s something? I mean, it was definitely an interesting jaunt, but during that time I only tackled NaNoWriMo, and NaNoWriMo novels just rarely turn into anything. They’re practice and tradition now. The pace is too fast for me to make anything spectacular, and there’s usually not much to salvage after the month is done.
Well, yesterday I was struggling on Chapter 23 when the BioShock fanfic poked its head up and was like “Hey honey I missed you kissy-face-emoji”
Which is how, after nine years of leaving it to gather dust, I decided to read it. I steeled myself to hate the FUCK out of it.
And you know what? I don’t hate it! I’ve written some shit, okay. Like, shit that can put you to sleep. (There’s an old Zelda fanfic packed with five dense pages of description about a forest. I know we all start out writing too much about inconsequential garbage, but damn.) No, man. No. The BioShock fic was an eye-opener. After five novels so broken that some of them would need to be rewritten or rethought completely, this thing is a MASSIVE step up in quality. There are plots and characters that move convincingly. Beautifully, even. My action sequences are extremely good--I could use them in a rewrite today. There are poignant and poetic turns of phrase that I can’t believe I managed. One character--Bland-Dad, a totally real name--actually moved me. I teared up a little about his doomed run from the law, buoyed up by his connection to his only friend in the world--a friend who was just as much a victim as he is and can’t help him in any way.
It’s definitely a middle ground between Old Writer Me (old “Thesaurus McPurple,” yes, this is what I’ve always called Past Me and definitely not a nickname I just made up) and Present Me (old Jabbers Mainichi). I was learning how to say EXACTLY what I needed to say, and no more. I was learning how to pace the plot properly. I was learning how to incorporate research into fiction. I was learning how to develop character voices in a better fashion, especially characters who were NOTHING like me. In the oldest chapters, I was so afraid of being misunderstood that I packed too much detail into my paragraphs--but the newer chapters begin to IMPLY more, move more elegantly, move lighter, with less baggage. The story moves faster and faster and grows more and more colorful the newer it gets.
Yes. It’s shitty. Lots of meandering dialogue that goes nowhere, says nothing, does nothing, has no flavor. Excessive description that glazes the eyes. WAY too many characters, pacing that runs too fast here and too slowly there. But it’s a growing thing. I can see it standing up, slowly pushing itself onto its hind legs, broken, but sensibly shaped. The sight of it gives me chills. Because it’s redeemable, you guys. I could use this in something. I COULD FINALLY FINISH MY BIOSHOCK FANFIC. I COULD FINISH IT OH MY GOD

2016 Writing Review
Was tagged to do this by @reaping-cain. Don’t always do these, but I thought that this might help me get motivated and focused after the holidays :) So thank you!
Total number of completed stories
17... wow! Way more than I thought I did. Cool! Some of those I swore were from last year, lol. Buuuuut, of my big, main stories, I only finished Part of Your World.
Total word count
For All my stories:  353535. Isn’t that beautiful?!?!?! I can’t believe it, lol. I think my lucky numbers for this coming year are 3, 5, and 35.
Fandoms written in
Dragon Age (Almost exclusively Inquisition) and one Mass Effect story.
Looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
Hmmm, yes and no. I really would have loved to have finished Diamond in the Rough this year as well. But that being said, I didn’t know I had written all those side stories and shorts! Things just kinda slip you by during a whole year, I guess.
What’s your own favorite story of the year?
Oof. This is tough. I would have to say Part of Your World, and Diamond in the Rough. Mostly because they are the stories that I have pour literal years into working on and thinking about. So to get POYW completed and Diamond off to an awesome track record, I’m so stoked.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I would say... yes? I started working on writing sex with Part of Your World last year, and I have leaped into writing a for sex story, Seducing Cullen, because of it. That’s a big jump, I think! (At least for me). But also the fact that I have three open stories, and am seriously considering opening a fourth, that is an interesting and challenging juggle for me.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
My main goal this year is to finish Diamond, and then edit it to be an original story. Then scrub the hell out of it and try to get it published. Yikes. So scary and such a huge goal!
Best story of the year?
Gah, best? I... I don’t know... um... why do I have to choose?! Since I am so sunk in it right now, Diamond probably. But if you had asked me just after finishing Part of Your World, that one. They are just all too special for me to choose one, really.
Most popular story of the year?
Well, For One-shot, definitely The Dinner Party, lol. That story has gotten looots of attention. For main stories, I think it is Part of Your World, but it is a bit tough to tell with the splitting of years.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
For this year? Hmm. Probably Across My Memory, but that probably has a lot to do with me not focusing on it. I thought the Anastasia storyline and the fact that there are two main pairings would make it a big hit, but it is kinda hidden behind all the others.
Most fun story to write:
I am legitimately having so much fun writing Diamond. I love having a High Romance story, especially when I originally came up with the idea, this was not quite how I saw the interpersonal relationships going.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Define sexiest. Ah, hell, who am I kidding, its The Dinner Party.
Most sweet story:
Diamond! All the Fluffy fluff romance I could ask for.
“Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you!” story:
... *cough* ... The Dinner Party... I am seeing a theme here...
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Well, Diamond is having me look at Isabela in a different way. And Part of Your World, I wrote Solas as a mentor, which is definitely different that how I had him in my mind before.
Most unintentionally telling story:
Telling? Um, not sure. They are all telling... which is why I really don’t want anyone I know in real life to read my stuff. That would be embarrassingly horrific.
Hardest story to write:
Anything I am just getting started on. Honestly, it takes me so long to figure out the characters voices, so one-shots can be hard for that reason. Starting Seducing Cullen was reaaaaallly hard too, because I rushed into writing the first chapter and posting it without having any real idea where it was going or what fairy tale it was going to be. Even now, the Alice and Wonderland theme is a stretch and vague even for me, lol. Trying to make it better to fit the theme, but it’s been a challenge.
Biggest disappointment:
I would have like to write more this year. And in some ways I have, but maybe more focus on my main story so that I could have finished Diamond.
Biggest surprise:
How excited people were to read about the DA crew in high school! I didn’t think the story would get that much attention, but I have had several people ask if I am going to extend it into a multi-chapter fill. I don’t have any plans to at this time, but that would be fun someday!
Here is the link to my Masterpost, since I just went on about everything, lol
I think I will Tag: @ma-sulevin, @uriellactaea @mosthopelessofromantics @kauriart @kaoruyogi @sephiratales . I think some of you have done this already, but I can’t remember!
