I AGREE. Honestly, for me personally I don't really know how to write gendered stuff. I can only write gn!reader and that's kinda it besides my occasional fem!lesbian!reader (but that's always for self-indulgent funsies and I feel like even those could be read as gn if it wasn't for the fact that reader is a lesbian)

Of course people are allowed to and should write gendered stuff if that's what they feel comfortable with and enjoy, but the "gn!reader but..." or "reader is fem coded" (and then it's obviously fem!reader) ARE SO....HUH??????????? I see that and think "just say it's fem!reader............" Notice how that doesn't happen with male!reader?🤨 Because fem!reader is the standard in fics.

And don't even get me started on untagged fics where in the middle of it reader is fem out of nowhere. Imo, if there's no reader's gender tagged it should be gn!reader by standard and then not randomly give reader a gender.

idk why but gender neutral writing comes so easily to me. maybe it’s because i jumped around the gender spectrum a bit but i can easily tell what feels feminine and masculine. and even though i used to identify as a woman for many years all while being a fanfic reader, i don’t think i can even attempt fem!reader stuff LMAO.

i don’t even get how so many people screw up gender neutral tagging so much like we need to hold a mandatory seminar for fic writers to teach them what gender neutral actually means. i really wish more people tagged their “gender neutral” fics like, “afab!reader that uses gender neutral pronouns” or anything like that. i just want them to quit saying gn reader when they don’t mean gender neutral overall.

it’s even worse when they add x male reader to the tags so i’m kinda forced to see it anyway. i don’t even do that on my legitimate gn writing. i only put any gender neutral tag that fits; none of that extra “x female reader, x male reader” tagging shit for a little bit more clout because doing that just makes tag filtering a lot more inconvenient for others.

also the untagged fem reader fics made me so distrusting of any untagged fic because i either assume it’s gender neutral and get so invested in the story only to get smacked upside the head with extreme feminine terms and/or pronouns OR i’m always slightly uneasy when i read them because now i expect them to secretly be fem!reader all the time.

being perceived as anything but a man is one of my biggest dysphoria triggers so reading fanfics for comfort is such a double edged sword.

i have always been allowed to wear women's pants to informal occasions. despite the fact that i have basically no hips and therefore mens pants genuinely fit me better, it was a years-long struggle to convince my mother to let me wear mens jeans. at every formal occasion i was forced into a dress.

i desperately wanted to wear a suit to prom. i wasnt even trying for a mens suit, a womens pantsuit wouldve made me happy at that point in my life. what i got were womens slacks, a borrowed silk blouse from my mother, and a sort of blazer-like jacket with shortened sleeves and a lace back insert, sort of the most ridiculous performatively feminine way one could come within the vicinity of a suit. i still got a drunk girl in the bathroom telling me how brave i was to wear something like that.

my cousin got married recently. i once again begged for a (this time men's) suit. my mother led me on a merry chase through obviously out of budget stores to dissuade me, and what i eventually got were women's slacks, a translucent, flower-embroidered blouse in the shape of a dress shirt..... and men's dress shoes, the only part of the outfit my mother refused to pay for.

last christmas, i wore a dress shirt (from the womens section!) and skinny jeans (also from the womens section!) to the family christmas party, and had my hair cut short. this prompted multiple of my cousins to inquire after my gender identity. now, i am actually transgender, and intentionally picked the outfit to look masc, but that doesn't change the fact that even though i was dressed head to toe in women's clothes, wearing a dress shirt and pants to christmas was enough for half my family to clock that i was making a deliberate statement about my gender.

i'll give you that where i live, in informal contexts, pants are pretty much normal for women, and if you can do your own clothes shopping, once you have them people don't tend to look close enough to notice if you're wearing men's or women's pants, but precisely where women can wear pants without raising eyebrows is still very much contextual, and there is still a very present resistance to women buying actual men's clothes, even if the same type of garment is also sold in the women's section

and for the record, i grew up in a big city, raised by liberal-ish, not particularly religious parents, and i'm not even 30 years old. definitely not just cults or older generations that still have hangups about this shit

but i’ll quickly mention some other things people have pointed out that are supported by canon: everyone calling him “mcfly” instead of his first name, twin pines lorraine not liking jennifer for no real reason except maybe thinking marty shouldnt be dating a girl at all (x)

i have NO idea what hrt was like in the 80s, if it were even available at all, but i like the hc that doc brews up some homemade testosterone for his good pal marty (x) man of all sciences, right? honestly doc was probably already making t for himself (trans doc ftw) and then marty came out to him and he was like i have just the thing.

going off that, doc probably helps him with his shots bc i think marty’s a big baby when it comes to needles.

again, resources in the 1980’s are not something i know about but given the climate and technology i doubt there was an extensive handbook on transmasculinity and safely binding. so marty’s methods of binding were probably not very safe, in terms of what he used and how long he wore it. tho @rovermcfly’s recent post about mjf’s harness looking like a binder (x)could support a hc that doc made marty a binder. as his friend and an elder trans guy you know he’s looking out for him. but when marty’s not binding…layers on layers on layers. side note i would hope marty wasnt wearing a binder when he got to 1955 cuz oh GOD he wouldve been wearing that for way too fucking long and with everything that physically happened to him in the first like 12 hrs of him being there he’d surely have some lasting damage

i like @rovermcfly ‘s hc that marty saw “martin seamus” in his family tree and was like yep thats my name (x) which honestly fits really well with canon like how are you going to name ur first son david tiberius, ur daughter linda [no middlename], but then when you get to your third kid suddenly be like “lets do a really traditional family name”. marty probably came out to doc first. doc quickly made him feel safe and loved and comfortable so yeah i can imagine doc knew before anyone else. and then jennifer and then lastly (maybe accidentally) his parents

Lorraine probably had a fucking conniption when marty first cut all his hair off. also i hate to say it but i feel like she was the least supportive parent (not that george was raving about it) in the twin pines timeline. all im going to say about lone pine lorraine here is that she came around faster (or at least started to) than her counterpart, my justification being the breakfast scene at the end of the movie compared to the dinner scene earlier re: jennifer

To start off, Offender is not a rapist, he isn’t a pedo, and he doesn’t fuck animals

He doesn’t do anything without consent, plain and simple. Him being all those things was a rumor started by someone he fucked in the past who got caught cheating. They said Offender forced them and the rumors have escalated since with his legend.

He actively avoids children cause he doesn’t like them. So he literally couldn’t be a pedo.

He doesn’t hate kids, he just prefers to not be around them.

He won’t fuck someone with kids unless the kids are out of the house and somewhere safe.

He’s wary about fucking 18 and 19 year olds and usually doesn’t

Occasionally if he sees a kid sad while he’s on a walk or whatever he’ll give them some daisies or something. Though they kinda just appear near the kid. He doesn’t actually go near them.

And they never have to wear something they don’t want or pose a way that makes them uncomfortable. also theres do discrimination when it comes to models, any one of any race, body type, gender (or lack there of), sexuality, and age to an extent (depending on the clothes being modeled and (if parent permission is needed if they get it)) are welcome)

He also does side jobs like art (he does realistic art) plays piano or violin for songs, every so often he’ll join a strip club. Definitely has an OF.

He learned piano from his dad. Their dad made them all learn piano. His dad was very against him learning violin but his mother let him learn it (she knew how to play)

Their parents kept them pretty reserved from the rest of the world (particularly humans) for safety reasons. The brothers didn’t find out they were the only ones of their kind till they were like teens and went hunting for the first time.

Their parents suddenly disappeared when they were teens. They still haven’t found them and have no idea what happened to them.

Zalgo killed them cause the dad was constantly fighting him, so was the mom but less so.

There were originally 5 brothers, but one got murdered (It was Tenderman. Who wouldve been the oldest, then slender, offender and trender are twins, then splendor)

They don’t know how tender was murdered. All they know is they can be murdered. They still haven’t figured out how tho.

They do know that they can regenerate any part of their body (teeth and nails grow back almost instantly, limbs take longer, they can just put their head where it should be and the bone, muscle, skin, tissue and all that will pull back together, skin can either regenerate in about an hour or two or a couple days depending on the size of the wound. Their organs can regenerate but it takes like a month.)

Drugs don’t effect them the same way they do us. Our massive hangovers that put us out of commission is what happens after they do LSD. A regular hangover for us is what happens when they do coke or a drink shit ton of alcohol.

Offender has the highest tolerance, then it’s trender, splendor, and Slender has the lowest cause he hasn’t done drugs.

Splendor has tried them but doesn’t like doing them. He doesn’t drink much either.

Trender will do them every so often, usually with Offender. He either drinks or smokes a blunt usually. Shrooms are for special occasions, and LSD gives him major anxiety so he doesn’t do it.

Trender and Offender were the only ones to try bath salts. They don’t know what happened. Splendor says they disappeared for a month and murdered a shit ton of people. They almost got caught. And at some point Offender ate a whole ass headstone and took a chunk out of a mausoleum

Slender hunts whenever the hell he wants, he doesn’t care about being caught

Offender hunts every couple of months or so

Trender hunts about 2 times a year. He spreads out his food pretty evenly

Splendor hates hunting and usually Offender or Trender will do it for them. They’ll maybe hunt once a year.

Human food to them is like sweets to us. They can’t live off it but it’ll keep them from starving. If they don’t eat human for about 3-4 years they’ll start to starve, but the process is slow and would probably take a while to actually kill them

Trender, Splendor, and Offender try not to get caught or make suspicions rise. They just wanna live their lives.

The amount of people they consume and how long they stay in their human form determines their power levels.

Slender is the most powerful, then Splendor, Offender, and Trender is the least powerful (but they’re all still mega powerful)

Slender is never in his human form and consumes humans whenever he wants so he has nothing holding back his power

Splendor may not eat human much but they’re rarely ever in his human form. And if they are it’s not for more than an hour usually

Offender is in his human form about 50% of the time. He’s in his normal form at home or hunting and any other time he’s human so-

Trender is in his human form like 90% of the time since he spends most of his time at work (he’s a workaholic to the highest extent. When it becomes really bad is when Offender will step in and be like “hey let’s grab a drink and chill out”)

Offender and Slender’s relationship is like Raph and Leo’s from tmnt if their relationship was genuine hatred and violent

Splendor tries to med their relationship and makes times where they all hang out and have dinner together but to no avail

This is the only time Slender can be seen in his human form. He doesn’t want to go but for some reason he does

Slender is stuck in his ways

Their dad hated humans with a passion, and Slender looked up to their father and wanted to be exactly like him so the hatred rubbed off

Slender blames humans for his parents disappearing and Tender’s death. Tender was the brother he bonded with the most

Splendor used to be a really emotional kid and their father hated that so now they bottle up everything

Their mother tried to help as best she could

Trender’s company is a fashion company that produces just about everything

And the sizes go up to 4 or 5 x

And the prices are reasonable and don’t go up with the size

Trender really doesn’t give to shits about money. If he could he’d just give everything he makes away but unfortunately he needs some money to produce what he makes.

He makes kids clothing, teens clothing, adults clothing in every aesthetic you can think of. Rarely will you see basic shit from him

He makes jewelry (real and fake (for the kiddies) and specifies very obviously which is which so someone doesn’t accidentally buy the wrong one)

He makes shoes!

His prices are usually around 10-25 dollars for clothing, sometimes 30 if it’s a specific brand (like Gorillaz or something. He doesn’t work with brands like Victoria secret, brands that have sweat shops, things like that. He doesn’t support them whatsoever)

His business is huge but he always listens to the people and tries to improve. And all his products are made ethically. He tries in every way possible to produce good products without polluting the earth more

Splendor usually only hangs around babies-young adults. They help them through rough home lives, trauma, and helps them find joy. They do everything they can to make them feel better

Splendor is the one who takes care of Sally. And they feels incredibly guilty for not being able to stop what happened to her, or punish her uncle himself.

Animals and mystical creatures are drawn to them and their home. They go to it for shelter and safety, as well as some food. But because Splendor isn’t always there they have a nymph friend there to look after everything.

Slenderman is the only one with proxies

Splendor is demisexual and bi, leaning towards men

Trender is queer and demisexual/demiromantic

Slender doesn’t love anything. Ever.

Trender gets annoyed easily but rarely ever gets pissed pissed (like original face altering pissed) if he does it’s either cause someone did something to his brothers or his models. And the unfortunate soul who did such will never be seen again afterwards

Offender doesn’t really get pissed pissed cause he usually either bottles it up or makes a joke out of it. It’s really only if something happens to his brothers that he gets pissed pissed.

Splendor has a list of people they wish they could rip to shreds. All of them parents. But they don’t want to do that to the children. They only intervenes and gets pissed pissed when the abuse gets physical or sexual. When it’s physically they’ll give the parent one change to never do that again. They’ll scare the shit outta them but won’t hurt them. If it’s sexual they kill them. Plain and simple.

Splendor started wearing pokadots to make the kids happy. Trender hates the suit but doesn’t comment usually

Splendor’s black hands are a skin disease their species can have. The skin is black and kinda ridged.

Splendor wears gloves because of their skin disease. the blood stains and they can’t get it out. Also they’re very insecure about their disease

Splendor put the bells on their tendrils so their movements didn’t scare the kids. They would always know when he was moving and where he was moving to so they’d be more comfortable. It was painful but it was worth it

Slender was in the woods when he was younger and almost got attacked by humans, but his mother came and saved him. (Her tendrils could be used as a shield)

Eden is not related to the brothers.

But eden looks a lot like their mother, so much so that Spendor legitimately mistakes her for their mother.

Offenderman’s real name isn’t Offenderman. That name was dubbed to him when people believed the rumors of him. But he kept it. He can’t really explain why but he did. And now he forgets it’s not his real name sometimes. Though he does prefer to go by Offender/Smexy.

Splendor calls him Offendy and he’s the only one allowed to do so

Trended has four arms, plus his tendrils. He can hide his second pair of arms like his tendrils but it takes energy

Getting their limbs/tendrils cut off only stings to them. They’re only in full on pain when their organs are involved

Eden’s blood has healing properties.

Someone can be turned immortal by being injected with one of the brother’s (or Eden’s) blood in large amounts. It’s extremely painful though.

Doing it slowly can ease the pain, so doing it over a week’s time nonstop will get the job done.

The injected person will be very weak after it for a couple days. A week. 2 weeks in worse cases.

The only one who’s done this is Splendor. They were dating a guy for a very long time and they told him about the procedure and he wanted it. After gaining back his strength he left Splendor. They’re not entirely over this even though it happened a long time ago.

They (mainly Offender and Trender) had to track him down and kill him. (Ya know, heart stuff)

That’s when they figured that’s probably how they could get murdered

oh hey some 9 hcs/theories bcs i Think abt this movie a lot (under the cut bcs this was way longer than i thoUGHT IT WA S GOING TO BE WHOOPS)

the main cast being comprised of parts of the scientists ‘soul’ is kinda complicated. basically theyre not just parts of the scientist himself, but rather people hes known, experiences he’s been through and his ideas/ideals

-1 is probably the most obvious in terms of this - he has clear parts of how the scientist remembers the chancellor, but also probably other older men in positions of power hes known throughout his life. his father, old professors or teachers, characters he read about in books as a boy that were leaders. perhaps 1′s fear comes from what the scientist wished these men had - especially the chancellor - a fear of the unknown, of the unknowable, afterall if the chancellor never took the machine away maybe none of this would have happened.

-speaking of the machine, she (i use she/her for the machine) is similar to her creator, probably the closest to him in terms of raw personality. the issue is shes a little, well... shes almost like a child. she craves the attention of the scientist and lashed out when he was taken away from her. she refuses to conform to what others want of her (a feeling the scientist probably remembers from his youth) but she was hurt and now shes angry and while the scientist, and none of the stitchpunks, should ever be expected to forgive her... the scientist probably felt bad for her, right until his last moments

-2 is an interesting case. perhaps the softer side of the older men in the scientists life, grandparents, gentler teachers, perhaps in some ways his mother. he has the scientist’s (and the machine’s) drive to create. to build upon the world before them. inspired by the people around the scientist that when he was growing up kept him creating. someone that didn’t quite have it in themselves to be a leader, cautious but not afraid, a perfect companion to 1 (but once again, we’re driving into ‘if only’s’)

-there is a childishness to 3 and 4, i would suggest that they come from the scientist’s memories of childhood. of those he knew when he was a young boy, but also himself. the desire to understand the world around them, facinated because everything was so new. the scientist knew the mistakes of the past shouldnt be buried with humanity, so he created two minds that wished to understand. to catalogue. as for why twins? maybe he felt loneliness in his youth, he knew being an intelligent child often meant being alone, hidden away in books. he couldnt bring himself to let them be alone, so he made two twins, perfectly in sync (except for the moments they are not). siblings argue, but siblings patch up. 3 and 4 would never have to face being alone, because they would always have each other.

-5. a fan favourite for many, myself included! his soft, trusting nature is something that is not often seen in masc coded characters, and his creativity and arc of coming into his own is something very near and dear to me. i think he came from memories of dearly beloved friends. some of whom were perhaps more followers than leaders, but comfortable like that. despite everything, those friends were a deep part of the scientist’s soul, and though he wished to carry them forever, he’s more than happy to have 5 live on in their memory

-6 is an odd one to talk about. again this theme of creativity returns (perhaps something very deeply a part of the scientist’s soul?) but in a much more literal fashion. an artist, a loner, misunderstood. more comfortable expressing himself with ink on paper than with words. to me 6 feels like he wouldve been a family member, or perhaps a few. a niece, or nephew, or uncle, or cousin. someone a bit strange, someone the scientist did not fully understand - and perhaps feared, because it often seemed that by looking at the world from this different angle, they understood more than him - and to a smart man, a very logical man, that must be quite frightening.

-7 reads to me as an older sibling. someone willing to take others under her wing but also keep them at arms length, for as much their protection as hers. a protector, a watchful guardian. theres a hidden softness, perhaps one the scientist never fully reached, but one the twins and 9 managed to pull out. or perhaps the scientist was imagining it. it doesnt matter now, anyhow.

-8 feels obvious. a solider, maybe a bit of a bully. perhaps a friend, or maybe more accurately an acquaintance. someone the scientist couldn’t click with, maybe couldn’t understand. but he knows the idea of a protector, a guard, and he builds that into 8. rough around the edges, much like his counterpart 7, he desires to protect his family, even if he isnt the best about it. he fails to grasp the other stitchpunks the way the scientist couldnt grasp the solider, and is too eager to follow and not have to think. but he has a heart, and its usually somewhere around where the right place is.

-curious, brave and so incredibly foolish, the main boy, 9. if the scientist met 9 he’d attribute him to his younger self, full of curiosity and bravery and maybe those two traits stopped them both from thinking ahead a little. but theres so much more to him than that. 9 is a leader - a mix of 1′s level headedness, and 2′s empathy. he builds those around him up, encourages them to be better, but is also just a bit of a manipulator, even if he doesnt mean to be. but one could argue a good leader needs to manipulate, just a tad. he’s their last hope because 9 is new, he’s the only one of them left that still has it in his heart to hope for something better.
