I revisited this 2021 podcast interview with Jess for research for a theory post I'm writing, and wanted to share this excerpt:
“It’s absurd, because there’s so much that’s contradictory in here. I can’t explain to my editors very well why it’s important to me that why one thing might be really important to me for example but then it’s totally fine to me that I talk about Christmas. Ugh! It’s fine! It just is. Because this is gonna be 9 books, and I’ve only really shown you the tip of the iceberg so far, but, but there are really specific reasons for a lot of that. There’s a really specific reason, for example, about Christmas, the word “Christmas” and the concept of Christmas exists in this world. And that is something that we will probably learn about in later books, but yknow, I couldn’t say why that’s totally fine and then something else that they would suggest like is there this kind of machinery or infrastructure in this world, and I would be like “well, no, of course there’s not.” I want to be able to break my own rules whenever I want just because I feel like it.”
What do people think about the bolded statement? Anyone have any ideas as to why Christmas, in the form it does, exists in Nevermoor? I'll be sharing my Christmas idea more in depth sometime soon, but I'm also curious as well about any thoughts on the excerpt as a whole. As a fervent Nevermoor theorist, I do kinda love how she's like "I have rules, but also I don't. Don't think about it too much."
