what do you think of dream cheating? i really love your critical takes. i personally feel for him but i really don’t like how he’s handling it. at the end of the day, he was in the wrong. accident or not he still did it and should apologize to everyone he publicly insulted over it. i think it highlights one of the bigger issues i have with dream is that he avoids responsibility for his actions.

well for starters i have to be honest and say i dont really care about speedrunning. for minecraft nerds or professional minecraft players this might be an absolute travesty (and pretty valid i guess) but i personally have no emotional investment in it. as for cheating itself - well, i suppose everyone has cheated a bit in their lifetime. dont get me wrong - cheating is still bad, obviously, but it’s the difference between cheating to pass a class or you cheating to get an A. dream cheating to get the 15th fastest speedrunning time doesn’t seem particularly malicious or harmful, and the type of cheating he did (just to get more pearls) doesn’t really violate a core aspect of minecraft gaming to me. like... i fully believe dream has the skill to have gotten a time around that mark anyway. he just didn’t have the patience to go through various iterations of the game and wait for the lucky pearl drops.

that being said, i agree that he responded fucking horribly to the whole situation. jesus. i don’t know exactly what happened, but apparently he had a mod that increased pearl drops while he was practicing and didn’t know he had it still on while doing the actual run, right?

yeah.... okay. that’s sus. idk, if i was him and i knew i had that mod on during practice and i got accused of getting absurdly high pearl drops, my first thought would be to check if i had the fucking mod still on. how the hell did he miss this? when the accusations first came out, it seems to me that dream either a) jumped straight into defending his “honor” and started talking shit about the speedrunning people, not thinking for a second they could possibly be right or b) knew what happened in his heart but tried to get away with it anyway. which honestly leaves a bad taste in my mouth either way - cheating is tolerable when it’s only for your own benefit, but once it starts hurting other people you should fucking own up to it. sooner rather than later too - so many people got so much hate for something they were right about and for so long.

it wasn’t even like they were being unreasonable for thinking he was a cheater. like.... the odds were literally stacked against him. there was the tiniest, minuscule chance that he may have been telling the truth just from a statistical perspective (i argued this back when the accusations first came out and i was at the point where i still somewhat liked dream), but it was something you could only believe if you *wanted* to believe in it. they were basically like “hey dream there is a 99.99999999999999% you cheated” and he responded “i think you guys just hate me”, and now that i’m relatively unbiased about the situation, i think i would side with the speedrunning people now.

another thing that bothers me is that he’s so obviously trying do damage control. like, come on now. tweeting about george’s “eyebrow slit” right after he drops his apology? that pissed me off. i’ve always hated the thing that dream does where he’s like “i did this bad problematic thing but guys <3 i love you all <3 my fans are the best”. it’s annoying and it feel like he’s avoiding responsibility, just as you mentioned 

anyway, TLDR: i don’t think dream cheating was inherently malicious but the way he reacted was pretty terrible and overall i agree with you
