personally i think dean deserved to crash the fuck out big time and end the world if he wanted to after losing cas AGAIN in 15x18. like the fuck do you mean this severely traumatized man whos been pining for his best friend for over a decade receives a love confession from said best friend, just for him to fucking DIE, and then his own kid becomes god but doesn't bring said best friend back to him.

dean watched cas die in front of him FIVE TIMES and in between each death he fell more in love with cas. john lost the love of his life ONCE and crashed out so hard he fucked over his kids' lives forever and went on a over 20-year long warpath of revenge. sam lost the first love of his life, jess, and spent the next 2 seasons on a warpath of revenge... BUT DEAN WATCHES THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE DIE 5 TIMES AND EACH TIME HE SPIRALS IN GRIEF HE GETS SHIT FOR IT???? let my man spiral and crash the fuck OUT he DESERVES it like goddamn

i almost cried when, in 9.18 ("Meta Fiction"), Castiel has one of his Autistic Angel of Thursday moments by asking Dean and Sam on the phone, "What's honorable about a miniature bar in a motel room?" - and when Dean replies "Everything", Cas smiles with the cutest dimpled little grin ever

Dean has been acting off since he got the Mark of Cain, and all it took was his Angel having a Human't Moment On Main for Dean to smile

meanwhile Cas has been burdened by knowing that he played a key role in his brethren's Fall, and Metatron's evil takeover, but the moment Dean replies to him in a light-hearted voice there's such a huge and tender smile on his face!! not just that, you can hear the soft affection towards Dean in his voice because what he says next, "How are you, Dean?", is said in such a warm tone!! while still fucking smiling!! nevermind that Sam is right there too, and that the brothers put him on speaker!!!!

he’s had enough hot ladies in the past for the rest of his life. he’s not the same anymore— he doesn’t scout for the perfect lips or the roundest ass like a douche.

also speaking of the car it functions as a symbol for a multitude of ideas and characters throughout the show but i always push back on the idea that dean destroys it in 2x02 as an act of self harm. with hindsight from the rest of the season i think in that moment its much more symbolic of his newly conflicted relationship with john. remember at this point we don't know john has asked him to kill sam, but dean does. this also more thoroughly explains dean's cruelty and disgust towards sam leaning fully into the life as "something dad would have wanted." right before dean starts smashing the car at the end of the episode sam comes out and apologizes more or less for not being a good enough son, something dean has accused him of before and most harshly earlier in the episode. but i always say dean's greatest conflict with his family members come when they prove themselves different or inadequate to his imagined versions of them so i think most of dean's anger at sam in this episode comes from a misplaced anger for john. the number one most important rule of dean's life handed from john was watch out for sam and two seconds before he dies it's like um actually you might need to kill him lol. and dean's like well babe unfortunately you're not acting like my idealized version of you right now so.

just got introduced to Charlie in SPN, and i'm so happy because!! not only do we get a lesbian woman on main who's also skilled at IT without being gruff or any less feminine for either trait, which is already amazing!! when she comes out as gay during the mission (7.20, "The Girl With The Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo") (what a nice wink at the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson btw)

dean breezes through it?? like?? mr macho mc manly goes with the flow without making any misogynistic jokes or expressing any surprise. not just that!! he also helps Charlie fake-flirt her way past the male guard by teaching her how to Pretend To Be Into Guys (wonder how he knows his way around attraction to men, huh)

but what's even better is the fact that he told her to imagine she's coming home to Scarlett Johansson. one of the most frequent celebrity crushes for sapphic people. had he been the basic straight guy he tries SO HARD to embody, he wouldn't have mentioned her. instead he would've suggested other female celebrities from the 2010s who were conventionally attractive under heterosexual male standards, ie. overly sexualized and objectified under the male gaze.

what i'm trying to say is that a true basic straight dude would've picked Salma Hayek, Megan Fox, Beyonce or Sofia Vergara as their example of an attractive woman without even realising that sapphic people might find androgyny or a certain masc energy a lot more attractive than male-dictated normative beauty.

possible endgame transfemme dean winchester, or at least heavily feminized? like. listen. dean trying to teach this version of cas how to look Femme for a date. cas like "hmm you seem better-suited to this than me."

adds an extra little wrinkle into dean's insane contortions around gender and sexuality. also include any important women in the cast who survive almost to the end.
