My thoughts on Max in s4 (and Billy)
I don’t know if other people with childhood trauma can relate to that, but :
When I watched Stranger things season 4, I was kinda like : “c’mon, Max, Billy was a bad person ! How can you feel bad for him when he was a piece of shit ?”. But at the same time, I understood it so much, and I know that this is why I didn’t want her to feel that way. All that guilt.
Her, being so depressed, was showing what it is to live after something so traumatic happened (I mean that we don’t really see the others dealing with that side of PTSD as much)
Okay so, my abuser(s) are not dead, i even still live partially with some of them. Like, I know the wrong they did, that they hurt me and others but it’s so difficult, especially when they are family, to not feel bad when they're hurting. You hate them but at the same time, you know they are like that because they were also hurt.
Episode 4 made me cry like hell. I wanted her to live, to be with people who actually care about her, and not be stuck with the memories of her abuser. Billy made her feel guilty when he was alive (because he needed to watch after her and because they moved to Hawkins) and still made her feel that way when he died. His power over her didn’t die with him. Her memories of him even twisted a bit, because of his sacrifice, she kinda thought : “oh, but he wasn’t that bad”.
HE WAS.
Billy apologist are wrong, I’m sorry, but I can’t. It’s just a disrespect to Max’s character and all people who were abused. I think Billy is an interesting character, I’m not like saying people can’t like him at all (you can like “villains”, that’s not wrong. You just have to acknowledge the wrong they did at some point (I know that's an entirely different discussion, but yeah))
It’s a difficult topic, I’m coming from a place where I empathize way too much with Max and his other victims to forgive Billy even if he was abused. You can’t say that what he did wasn't that a big of a deal : he was a bully, a racist, and a misogynist.
Maybe, if he had some of a redemption arc, my point of view could’ve changed a bit (his sacrifice doesn't count). Like with Steve, who had kinda like 2 seasons of character development in a good way. Even if he did things that were wrong, he acknowledged what he did and grew (I don’t remember everything of the show, so potentially fan fictions helped me love him much more lmao).
But I don’t forget what he did.
And what’s for the end of volume 2, when I watched it the first time, I kinda wanted Max to die OKAY WAIT HERE ME OUT, HERE ME OUT !
Because, it WAS so CRUEL to do that. She finally wanted to live, and killing her would’ve been HORRIBLE. It would’ve shown that the good guy’s don’t always win, and it echos with Robin’s line where she says that she doesn’t think they are going to make it this time. (yeah, I love a good angst to tear my heart apart. I was crying, throwing up when Max begged to stay alive).
I’m like happy she’s alive now, she is one of my favorite characters and I would literally die for her. They HAVE to let her stay alive now, they can’t do the “is she going to die or not ?” 3 times.
So I want to see what they are going to do with her character, now that we know that she wants to live. I hope she doesn’t stay in a coma most of the season, and that she isn’t going to be miraculously fine after waking up. It’s not my place to say if it would be okay for her to be a disabled character because Sadie Sink isn’t disabled, so I’m not going further with that. I just hope they aren’t going to rush the rest of her character arc.
And I want her to be happy with her new family, because we love a good found family.

One week left before ST is back! Do you have any predictions about who may or may not make it to the end?
Honestly, I'm hoping against hope that all of the kids/teens and both Joyce and Hopper make it, and that the big death doesn't happen until season 5. Hopper I think is definitely surviving because from a story perspective, to kill him off and then bring him back and kill him off again would be ridiculous. Joyce, I think, will be safe because the Duffer Brothers DAREN'T kill Winona. Apparently there's a big fan theory that Will is going to turn evil and join Vecna which I find dumb because it ignores the fact that he's a decent person, and I know that Noah Schnapp has posted a pic of himself in a harness which I initially thought meant that Venca would go for him (and I still think it's likely) but I'm pretty sure he was also involved in filming the Nevada explosion so it could be that too.
The trailer seems eager to point us to Max as the potential doomed which sort of makes me think that actually she'll be okay? They're doing their damnest to shine focus on her and Steve in particular in the trailer because I think maybe they WANT people to worry about them?? So that if there is a main character death they can sneak in something unexpected. It's kind of been their strategy so far, I mean... was there any focus on Jamie Campbell Bower AT ALL during the press junkets? And I'm also pretty sure that Eleven is in Max's memories in THIS shot...
(check the Snow Ball table and the skatepark. HAS to be Max!)
...which would indicate that she's going to get into her head somehow??? I really can't see how it would serve the story further to permanently cut Eleven off from her ONE female friend unless Sadie Sink really wanted to leave, but why would she? ELEVEN SAVE UR BESTIE CHALLENGE.
Also, I still think Vecna's going to let Nancy go as opposed to us seeing Nancy escape, because why take her into his Mind Lair and SHOW HER his backstory if NOT so she can see Eleven and make the connection between them??? I think he might give her an ultimatium, you know. He doesn't seem to have much reach beyond Hawkins or he surely would have gone for El already, so I can see a situation where he tells Nancy something like "Bring Eleven to closer physical proximity or I will kill you and everyone you love, I will leave you alone for 24 hours to accomplish this ADIOS!" That sounds plausible. Minus the adios.
But if someone does have to die, I mean... how useful is Jonathan really? Occasionally he drives, but Steve drives, Eddie drives, Nancy drives, hell even Max can drive. What's Jonathan gonna do, throw his camera at Vecna and save the day? Time to drop the dead weight, Matt and Ross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Part one
Sadie’s POV
I parked my car outside the Cameron residence running inside as fast as my legs would take me. I sped up the steps bursting into Rafe’s room out of breath. He jumped out of the bed he’d previously been lying in. My hands rested on my knees as heavy breath sounded through the room. My hair was back in its side parting one of the ways people tell us apart, as he looked at my attire I realized I never had time to change out of the Metallica shirt I was wearing while with the Pogues.
“Um hey?”
“Hi, um... I.... umm..... I never kissed you that was Y/N we switched places for a couple days seeing if anyone would notice, so earlier today or.” I pull Y/N’s phone from my back pocket seeing it was 12:17. “Yesterday when I kissed you it was Y/N.” As I said all that as fast as it could come out of my mouth I prayed it would make sense. Why would she do that kiss my crush as me that’s just low, and I have to get her back. Later.
“She doesn’t like you, well she likes you but not in a romantical way, she’s still with JJ. She thought it would be funny or-or something. Really it’s just mean and I have to get her back. But I just had to tell you so you didn’t get the wrong idea or something.” When I finish it’s silent and I prayed Y/N didn’t just mess up my whole life. A few moments into the silence Rafe burst out laughing.
“It is not funny ok.” I say in my angriest tone. He puts his hands up in surrender still lighting laughing. “Stop.” I mutter out embarrassed.
“Ok, ok,ok. Not funny got it. Hilarious maybe, funny no.” I bring my head up glaring at him, it was not funny or hilarious it’s embarrassing. “Fine not funny not hilarious. Cute outfit by the way Y/N.” He started laughing again he head thrown back.
“Sure maybe it’s a little funny.” I mutter out quietly, but loud enough for him to hear.
“What was that pogue.” He teased, causing me to shove his shoulder. “So you said you sister had no feelings for me, but what about you.” He steps closer, towering over me with his height. I eyes look anywhere but his. His so close I could smell his cologne he wore everyday.
“I-I don’t have any feelings for you Rafe.” I get out blush rising on my cheeks not at all helping the current situation. I take a small step back, but he steps closer. We repeat that till my back hits the door I just ran through.
“I think that you’re lying princess.” He whispers in to my ear causing shivers to run down my spine. His hot breath fans over my ear as he continues to talk. “I’ve notice you starring, and the blush when I talk to you, avoiding my eyes when were having a conversation. I’m not blind Die.” I gulped his hand on either side of my head trapping me. Not that I wanted to move anywhere with him this close to me. I finally brought my Y/E/C to meet his blue ones.
“I-I.... I.” I try to get out a sentence but him being here my nose invaded by his smell and by body heating up, no words where forming. “Yea I know Princess.” The way princess so easily can from his lip, and it being directed at me made my knees weak. His eye look down at my lips before trailing back to my eyes, while licking his lips. His hair was messy from him about to sleep before I disturbed him and it just looked so much better when it was like that.
He leaned in close one of his hands going down resting on my hip, the other still on the door beside my head. His lips met mine pressing me further into the door. My hand grabbed at the shirt he was wearing pulling him closer to my body.
“Needy are we.” He pulls away chuckling, both of his hands now on my hips. I didn’t say anything, I couldn’t say anything I was too busy absorbing what just happened.
“I should- I should go I have school tomorrow.”
Y/N’ POV
“YOU WHAT!” JJ yelled sitting up in the bed. I tackled him the the bed my hand over his mouth so he wasn’t so loud. “Mmmm Uhm.” He mumbles against my hand, before licking my palm.
“Ewwwww JJ.” I wipe my hand on his chest as he stared at me angrily. “You’re going to wake up the whole house.” He didn’t say anything, his hard glare directed at me.
“Why the hell you you kiss him! What am I not good enough for you or some shit.” He finally speaks up pushing me off of him. He gets up pacing around the room waiting on my answer.
“JJ, you are all I need ok. I kissed him because Sadie is in love with him and won’t tell him.” I walk over to where he was standing wrapping my arms tightly around his neck pulling him into me. It takes a while but he gives in wrapping his arms around my waist. “Come on. We’re going surfing.” He releases me so I could grab the swimsuit I leave here. I could feel him staring as I changed watching me get completely naked in front of him. Not like it was the first time or anything. I slip on his shirt over as I walk out grabbing my surfboard. After awhile JJ comes out ready for some late night surfing.
“I’m still mad.” He calls as I get in the passenger side of the van waiting for him to get in to drive it. “Get over it buba you’re the only one for me.” “I better be.” I hear him mutter. I lean over the console to kiss him but he pushes away before I can. “I’m not kissing you till you wash the Rafe from your face.” I giggle and shake my head at the blond boys antics.
Sadie’s POV
School felt like it took forever. The whole day all I could see was Rafe, with his messing hair. I mean he kissed me. Actually kissed me. I mean it probably meant nothing to him but he kissed me. And I have no one to talk to about it, when I say talk I mean scream, hug my pillow and plan the wedding with. Y/N being at school with the Pogues, that is if she showed up and Sarah... I mean I can’t tell Sarah I’m in love with her brother. So that leave the other girls we’re friends with but I don’t know them enough.
When the final bell rings telling me math is over I almost jump up I’m so happy to go home hopefully seeing Y/N there. I walk out of the school going to find Sarah who was going to drive me home when I get distracted by a voice.
“Die, hey get in.” In front of me was Rafe in his blue truck, passenger side window open to talk to me. “Just get in.” He says before I can ask any question. I hesitantly get in the truck with the person I’ve been thinking about all day.
“What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are you even here?”
“Did anyone tell you you ask to many questions.” I look down embarrassingly playing with the hem of my skirt. “You’ll see when we get there.” We start driving down road after road as I try to keep my eyes open. I barely got any sleep thinking about the boy driving this truck. “You can sleep you know that right I’m not going to kill you.” With that I close my eyes, resting my head on the window falling into a deep sleep listening to the faint sound of the radio.
When I open my eyes again the sun was sinking behind the horizon. Beside me Rafe had my math textbook open doing some of my homework questions. “What are you doing? Where are we? How long did you let me sleep?”
“Questions again Die. It’s umm. 6:30.” He said checking the rolex on his wrist. I’m doing your homework because I have nothing else to do and I think I’m pretty good at math. We are on the mainland.” When he said mainland I sat up looking at him as if he were crazy.
“Rafe I have school tomorrow and all the ferries are going to be closed. How do you expect me to get there?”
“I sent an email from your laptop, tomorrow Miss Sadie Y/L/N is at a doctors appointment.” He closes the book chuckling at my expression.
“Rafe!” I grab the textbook from him shoving it in my bag. “What is so important you have me skipping school tomorrow for.” I cross my arms over my chest and glare at him.
“You’re not skipping you have a very important appointment. And ice cream is what is so important.” He points out the window to the small ice cream shop that was always my favorite. I look back at him confused as the to why he brought me here.
“I gotta treat my girl don’t I?”

am i the only one who doesnt get why out of all characters they had to bring sadie after johnny the one who makes no sense?? like where were his other friends, marissas friend group, like she wasnt the only one who lost a friend?? it should be them going over to johnny. and i actually like chilli. they just disappeared? her friend group shouldve blended into core four bc i would KILL for seth and chilli to meet and bond. IMAGINE. ugh cant wait for the pod to get to s3 and explain the mess!
Because Ryan needed a new love interest and the writing didn't give a fuck about Marissa having friends or anyone to grieve with. I think she sits with Chili for a moment in 3x15? I can't remember if it's then or 3x16 but then we never see him again. But yeah this season just fucks Marissa over and over. She can't even properly grieve the loss of a friend who she basically saw die right in front of her without Ryan thinking it's because of love and their breakup then shattering their friend group. The fact that she makes it to 3x24 as a girl who can smile and joke around shows us how resilient they made her during that shitty year. After throwing the kitchen sink at her, she still comes out of it okay. I got off tangent, sorry. Yes, seeing Seth and Chili hanging out would've been fun especially since that actor originally auditioned for Seth.
#ask#anonymous#def read that years ago#i just feel like the pod will not be kind to marissa when it comes to s3#if they discuss her much at all

Outlaws Never Die- Chapter 10- Pretty Lamb.
_________________________
The ride out of camp was slow and tedious, even though you were pushing your poor horse to extremes. You weren’t even sitting on the saddle, you were leaning forward almost standing, gripping hold of the reigns. The sound of her strides were heavy, her heaves filling the air. “I’m sorry, girl.” You pulled the reins coming to a steady halt, sitting properly and patting the side of her neck letting her calm down as you wiped your tears away using the sleeve of your blouse, the blouse Arthur bought you. All these memories came flooding back and you felt stupid, you and Arthur weren’t together, nor were you actually seeing each other, but you knew your feelings and you knew you hurt. You’d never been close to someone like you had with Arthur. It was different, new territory, new feelings and you were starting to regret even knowing him. Why hadn’t he said anything about Mary, if you had known about her, you wouldn’t have been this way. You would have never fallen for the outlaw.
You sighed deeply and got off your horse, laying down on a patch of grass, out in the open. Staring up at the stars, watching them twinkle in the night sky. Anyone could have gone past you, even O’Driscoll’s. You weren’t bothered. Right now, it was just you and your feelings, you and your feelings that were swallowing you whole and taking you into a deep, dark abyss. Closing your eyes and gripping hold of grass around you, sinking your nails into the earth, you let them take over.
It was early morning the next time you opened your eyes, they were sore and stuck together from the amount of tears you had cried, your hands filthy, mud under your nails. You wiped them over your blouse that you seemed to not care about so much anymore and stood up. Your horse still nearby as always. She wasn’t your first horse, but she had made a loyal companion and you couldn’t imagine being without her now. You had a beautiful Mustang before, but he died in the firing line back in Blackwater. This horse, Y/H/N was one of the spare horses from Colter.
You pulled yourself up and mounted your horse, pulling out an apple from your satchel and giving it to her, “there girl.” A firm pat to her neck and you were on your way, coming to a stop when you met Cumberland Falls, near Valentine. It was a lovely area, quite secluded, between big cliffs and several bright green trees. All you could hear was the waterfall and birds nearby. It was peaceful. Getting off your horse to let her graze, you walked near to the water to wash your filthy hands and your face that felt like you’d been stung by a million nettles. Sitting on a big rock you overlooked the place, taking in the scenery. You would have to go back to camp at some point, go back to see Arthur, probably with Mary. The horrible lump in your throat was coming back as you sobbed out not having to muffle them this time. You had done this to yourself, you hadn’t even stopped to think if Arthur already has someone, everything he told you had been a lie and you were just foolish to believe the things he had told you.
Kicking small pebbles on the ground you stood up, “don’t move, pretty lady” a sinking feeling in your gut hit suddenly. “You move, I’ll kill you.” This man’s voice was hoarse, chills ran down your back as you stood, “what’re you doin’ out here all alone? A pretty lamb like you,” he tutted, “anything could happen.” You heard him inch closer, his boots on the rubble below you, he was close, too close. You wanted to talk, warn him you weren’t alone, but you couldn’t speak. His arm wrapped around you, the other holding a solid blade against your neck. You had to act quickly, or your life would be cut short, you weren’t ready to die.
It all happened in seconds. Clenching your eyes shut, gripping the gun slowly in your belt, gaining courage, you threw your head back, hearing a low crunch, and a yelp from the man, the blade slicing only the side of your neck gently, but definitely enough to make you bleed. Gripping your gun hard in both of your hands. The man was stumbling back with a hand over his nose, blood visible between his fingers... you exhaled and pulled the trigger. Something Arthur taught you, always pull the trigger on empty lungs.
A limp body on the floor in front of you, blood pooling around them. A tight feeling in your chest, your breathing laboured and heavy, you hunched over trying to keep your balance but failed falling into your knees. How did the men do this every day? Granted, this person was going to kill you, but that didn’t make it any easier.
Your horse nuzzled her face against your hair, strands of it falling over your eyes as she breathed, “I’m good girl, I’m good.” You hugged her nose and stood up thankful that no one had seen, but they would have heard the shot. Although this area was secluded it wasn’t all that far from civilisation. You had to get out of there before you were seen and brought yet more trouble onto the camp. Pulling yourself up onto your horse, everything felt heavy. Your body almost as limp as the person you just killed. You touched the side of your neck and winced pulling it away covered in blood. You were shaking, your vision cloudy, the top right part of your once all blue blouse was now covered in blood, how were you meant to explain this? You were sure Dutch was going to kick you out now and there was no way Arthur would stick up for you now his Mary girl was back.
Pulling up to the usual entrance to Horseshoe Outlook, Sadie called out, “Who’s there?”
“It’s me, Y/N.”
“Welcome back, Y/N.” You strolled up further, “didn’t see you around last, woah!” panic filled Sadie’s voice, “we need help! Y/N’s injured!” you heard the commotion in camp as Sadie ran up to you, helping you down from your horse, “What happened?” her gun was on the floor, her hand over your neck stopping the blood though it wasn’t bleeding as much now.
“I killed someone, Sadie. I... I actually killed someone.” Defeat was in your voice. Your eyes were glassed over, this had changed you, the way you felt was different, like a switch had been turned off, although you were travelling with a big group of people that had broken the law, and you had too, you had never killed someone before.
“Oh, Y/N.” You sank to the floor, your knees finally giving way, Sadie got onto her knees and Miss Grimshaw came running up with supplies, shortly followed by Charles. Her eyes wide, it probably looked worse than it was. A slice to the neck was always going to get a lot of attention. It was as though everything had been slowed down, people running around you were in slow motion, calling you, asking if you were okay, you couldn’t reply, nothing in you was working properly anymore. Your eyes closed and you went limp in Sadie’s arms, but not before seeing Arthur run from a distance.

How The Light Gets In (ch. 4)
SUMMARY: After your home is ransacked by a group of strange men, you and your cousin are taken in by a group of outlaws. And that’s when the trouble really starts.
PAIRINGS: John Marston x Fem!Reader, Arthur Morgan x Fem!Reader
CHAPTER ONE, CHAPTER TWO, CHAPTER THREE
TAGGING: @mountainhymn if you would like to be tagged in future chapters please lmk!
NOTES: yikes so....this one took a while! yeah i’ve just been busy with work and playing red dead and junk. speaking of i’m aware i’ve done stuff out of order but listen. listen. i got no excuse. likes are welcomed but reblogs are most appreciated! be sure to support fic writers by spreading their work!
As you sat with the other ladies and Jack around the fire, you were all joined by a slim, older man with round glasses and a heavy coat. “I hope you all don’t mind.” He said, with a distinctly European accent. “The Reverend has been trying my patience.”
“Of course Herr Strauss.” Miss Grimshaw looked over at you and Sadie. “This is Leopold Strauss, he does the bookkeeping.”
You regarded the man curiously. “Are you from Germany Herr Strauss?”
Mr Strauss looked at you with a raised brow. “Vienna.”
You smiled brightly. “I’ve heard wonderful things about Vienna.” You said. “How long have you been in America?”
“Since 1863.” He replied, warming his hands. “Where did you hear about Vienna?”
“My mother worked for a Russian widow who spent a lot of her time in Vienna.” You explained. “She always spoke very highly of the city.”
Mr Strauss nodded slowly, regarding you with curiosity. “Do you speak German?”
Your smile grew wider. “Fließend.” You replied, with some pride. “Die Witwe hat es mir beigerbracht.”
That made Mr Strauss smile, while everyone else looked between the two of you in confusion. “She said that the widow taught her how to speak German.” He explained to everyone. “It’ll be nice to speak German with someone who can actually understand.”
You laughed lightly. “I’m sure, although it’s been a while since I had ample opportunity to speak it, so I may not be perfect.”
“It’s better than nothing.”
You laughed again, and to your delight saw Mr Strauss smile wider.
“Some old widow taught you German?” Miss Jones seemed rather intrigued.
“She taught me a lot of things.” You replied. “I owe her a great deal.” You crossed yourself out of habit, silently praying that her soul was resting as peacefully as she deserved. “She died a few years ago.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Mr Strauss said. “She clearly meant a lot to you.”
“Thank you, you’re very kind to say so.” You said. Now that you were able to think more clearly, you saw that you had to try and get as many of the gang members on your side as possible as long as you and Sadie were with them. The more they liked you both, the easier it would be. Thankfully if there was one thing you knew how to do, it was charm people. “You mentioned a Reverend?”
“A former Reverend.” Miss Grimshaw said. “He ain’t much of one these days.”
That made you frown. As a child you went to church often, and you had always admired those that had chosen to spend the rest of their lives walking with the Lord, so to hear of one falling from grace hurt you, as ridiculous as that sounded. But it also intrigued you to know that a band of outlaws had a Reverend of all things with them.
“I’m sorry to hear that.” You said quietly, and your fingers twitched, momentarily going for your prayer rope before you remembered that it was lost, along with just about everything else you had ever called yours. “So, who else do you have with you all?”
Miss Grimshaw told you of the other members you had yet to meet; Dutch’s lover Molly O’Shea, a disgraced soldier called Bill Williamson, the former revolutionary fighter Javier Escuella, young Lenny Summers whom Miss Grimshaw praised for his intellect, the lost and troublesome Irishman Sean Macguire who was hopefully with the equally troublesome and twice as brash Mac Callander, and an old man known simply as Uncle.
“Uncle?” You furrowed your brow. “Has he never given you all a proper name?”
“Nope.” Miss Jackson spoke up as she prodded the fire to keep it alive. “We’ve all asked, but he’s never given a straight answer.”
That left you flummoxed. You could understand one not wanting to give their real identity if they were an outlaw, but surely they would provide a proper name, rather than just ‘Uncle’. It made you wonder what kind of life ‘Uncle’ had lead. And trying to figure out how exactly you would address him as you would no doubt have to some time soon.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Miss Roberts clinging onto Jack as he sat in her lap, whispering into his ear. You watched them for a bit, feeling your heart ache for the little boy. “What do you like to do Jack?” You smiled kindly at him, trying to put him more at ease.
Jack shrugged, avoiding looking at you. “I don’t know.”
“Yes you do Jack.” Miss Roberts said. She looked up at you. “He loves to read.”
You instantly perked up, smiling wider. “What do you like to read?”
Jack glanced up at you before shyly looking away again. “Fairy tales.” He said. “Uncle Hosea likes to read to me too.”
You nodded, touched and surprised at the idea of Mr Matthews doing something so...well, normal. It never occurred to you that people like this, outlaws and criminals, could be so domestic. “Do you read with your father?”
There was a sudden silence, and you felt a sharp rise of tension in the atmosphere, which in turn made you tense and anxious.
“His father ain’t really the readin’ type.” Miss Roberts said bitterly. “Not much of a fatherin’ type at all really.”
You felt your heart sink and you looked back down at Jack, who was frowning at the floor. “I’m very sorry to hear that Miss Roberts.” You said sincerely.
She shrugged. “It’s fine, the others around here help, particularly Arthur.”
That made you smile a little. “That’s good to hear, a boy needs a strong man in his life.” You looked back at Jack and leaned in closer to him. “So, what have you been reading lately?”
-
With some encouragement from his mother, Jack opened up and you found him to be a very chatty, and adorably precocious child. He talked animatedly about the stories of kings and knights of round tables he read with Mr Matthews, and of the games he made up and would play, either with others or by himself. As he spoke, you got the feeling that he felt rather lonely at times, even though he was surrounded by people who cared for him. Rather notably, he said very little about his father, and that made you feel for the boy. There was Mr Matthews and Mr Morgan, but you knew that nothing could truly replace a father.
All of a sudden, the low thunder of hooves cut through the conversations, making you all turn your heads. You jumped to your feet, wrapping the coat Miss Jones had given you around yourself as tight as you could. “I’m going to make sure the men are alright and that Gladys behaved herself.” You said, going to the door.
“I’m coming with you.”
You turned and looked at Sadie quizzically. “I’ll be right outside Sadie, not that far.”
“I’m coming anyway.” She looked and sounded stern, and you knew better than to try and argue this further.
The wind had died down somewhat from earlier, but the snow was still heavy and the cold still biting. As you and Sadie trudged through the snow towards the men, and you quickly noticed that Gladys and Mr Morgan weren’t among them.
“Gladys?” You looked around, thinking that maybe you had simply missed the two of them.
“Your horse is fine.” One of the men said as he approached you. He was darker than the others, but not as much as Mr Smith, and had a very finely groomed moustache and fashionable hat. In fact, he appeared to be the most well groomed of the men you had seen thus far. “We spotted another O’Driscoll on our way back and Arthur went after him.”
“Oh, that’s good to know.” You let out a sigh of relief. “Are the rest of you alright?”
“Perfectly fine.” The man replied, hitching his horse to the post.
“Did you kill all them bastards?”
You stared at Sadie, more than a little startled at her question. The rage in her eyes and the growling ferocity in her voice shocked you, and made you deeply uneasy.
The man seemed to be just as surprised, although you imagined it was far more jarring for him, as he didn’t know her at all. His eyes flicked over to you before going back to Sadie. “As many as we could.”
“Good.”
You felt goosebumps rise over every inch of your body in a way that had nothing to do with the cold.
“Sadie, are you-”
The heavy sound of hooves interrupted you, and you turned to see Gladys galloping into view, Mr Morgan on her back, and something stowed on her rear. Something that couldn’t stop struggling.
“What you got for us Arthur?” Mr Van Der Linde waded through the thick snow to Mr Morgan, and you stepped aside to allow him more room, noting the look of subdued glee on his face.
“An O’Driscoll.” Mr Morgan walked around behind Gladys and you saw that the something stowed on Gladys was, in fact, a someone. A young man, with scraggly facial hair and wide, terrified eyes. He didn’t seem like the O’Driscolls that had invaded the house and killed Jake. He was far too jittery, and you felt a little sorry for him. “Kieran Duffy.”
You saw that Mr Morgan had a look on his face that was similar to Mr Van Der Linde’s, appearing to be entirely too pleased with having a man captive. You didn’t enjoy it.
Mr Morgan tried to remove Kieran Duffy from Gladys, but she stepped aside, resulting in Mr Morgan stumbling forward slightly, his hands grasping at air.
Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed Sadie smirking.
“Careful there Morgan.” Mr Bell’s voice called out, sounding just as amused as Sadie appeared to be.
“Gladys.” You said in a warning tone.
That appeared to be enough, as while Gladys did huff, she didn’t move again when Mr Morgan removed Kieran Duffy and cut him free, forcing him to stand before Mr Van Der Linde.
While Mr Van Der Linde spoke to Kieran Duffy, mentioning something about “feeding people as needs feeding” that didn’t sit right with you, you went to Gladys, leading her back to the hitching post and tying her reins to it securely.
“You need to be nicer to these people.” You told her in a low voice. “They’re treating us well.”
Gladys only huffed, apparently uninterested in your concerns.
At the sound of crunching snow, you turned your head, and saw Mr Morgan approach you. Gladys huffed again, harder this time, and snorted, kicking at the snow. She was clearly agitated, but you couldn’t understand why. “Sorry about that earlier.” You said sheepishly, gently stroking Gladys’s face in an attempt to calm her.
Mr Morgan shrugged, and his eyes went to Gladys, seemingly amused. “It’s fine.” He attempted to approach Gladys, but she stepped aside, at least as much as she could while being securely hitched. Mr Morgan furrowed his brow slightly, but shrugged. “She’s fast.” He said approvingly.
You smiled, a sense of pride filling you. “She’s full of surprises.” You added, turning back to Gladys to stroke her face again. “Even if she does have an attitude.”
Gladys flattened her ears against her head and snorted, turning her head away in an offended manner.
Mr Morgan chuckled deeply, his eyes traveling over to you.
It was the first time you were able to get a good look at him, or at least as good of a look as you could get while he was bundled up. He was tall and broad, not as much as Mr Smith but still impressive, unkempt facial hair, and you could just make out hair that seemed to be stuck between a particularly dirty blond and light brown. But what caught your attention the most were his eyes. They were a clear, sharp blue, like a summer sky. The kind of blue that almost seemed fake, and only got more so the longer you looked.
There wasn’t much else you could concretely make out, but there was no mistaking that what you saw was very handsome.
You felt your cheeks flush and immediately turned back to Gladys. You were actually glad it was so cold, it gave a natural explanation for the shiver that went down your spine.
“You’ve got yourself a fine animal there Miss.”
His voice was deep and had a distinctive drawl, the kind that was oddly endearing.
“Thank you.” It came out as a whisper, and you felt your face heat up even more.
“[Name]!”
You turned and looked at Sadie, having somehow completely forgotten she was there, and saw that she was frowning. “Let’s get back inside.”
“Alright Sadie.” You turned to back to Mr Morgan to say goodbye, but he was already trudging away to another house, probably the one that he had taken residence in for his stay here.
You frowned, but were unsurprised. After all, since when did men like Mr Morgan waste their time with girls like you?
“[Name]!”
“I’m coming!”

So How About Them New Episodes, Ammirite Ladies??
here’s what i thought of the new episodes via live reactions as i watching them!
overall, it was kinda underwhelming but there were parts that i really did like! and if you liked these episodes, that’s awesome!
MAYOR DEWEY WINS
was this title a reference to the movie/book John Dies at the End, cause if so then i’m shocked i caught that
apparently it is, would you look at that. btw i kinda liked the movie.
damn, Sadie took this hard. and Steven never told Lars’ parents. so i guess Sadie has to do that herself.
why tf does Steven care if Dewey wins?!
OH, IT’S BECAUSE HE DON’T WANT SHIT TO CHANGE AND HE THINKS HAVING A NEW MAYOR WOULD BE BAD WTF DEWEY DOES NOTHING
ok wow, there’s only 24 people in Beach City and he never noticed that Lars was gone!?
“is that why the donut shop was closed?”
“we’ll hire a new donut boy!” DEWEY. DUDE. ARE YOU FOR REAL?!
“high school mayor” lmao
how did he run unopposed for 10 years!?
LARS’ MOM KEEPS A SHITTON OF TOMATOES IN HER PURSE SHE READY TO THROW DOWN ALL THE TIME
i don’t like that Steven is so adamant on Dewey winning.
jesus, Steven, let Nanefua win. she’s obviously the better person for the job
“i’m done pointing my finger at you, and now i direct all my fingers on both my hands to the citizens” top 10 anime deaths
NANEFUA WINS, OH MY GOD YES
STEVEN, DUDE, REALLY?! LEAVE CONNIE ALONE!
“i don’t know what you’re talking about, but i need to get a new job” 2018 mood tbh
episode rating: 2 tomatoes out of 5. i can’t stand Steven in this episode at all. but hey, NANEFUA WON!!!!!!
RAISING THE BARN
....was Lapis’ main concern that Steven dropped his phone on Homeworld? not the fact that he was... idk... ON HOMEWORLD?!
ok Lapis is ready to bail immediately and tbh i dont blame her
did she just uproot the entire bard wtf?!
BARN THE DIAMONDS, BARN THE DIAMONDS, BARN THE DIAMONDS!
episode rating: 1.5 barns out of 5. BARN THE DIAMONDS, BARN THE DIAMONDS, BARN THE DIAMONDS!
GEMCATION
^ mfw Amethyst basically spat an egg out her mouth (it was kinda gross)
well. Greg got some kinda house.... still don’t get why the crew is so against having Greg get a house
also, where’s Peridot?
“remove all shoes before entering” Pearl fucking THROWS A RANDOM ASS PAIR OF SHOES
OKAY PEARL SCREAMING “PARTY GUY, NO!” WAS ACTUALLY KINDA FUNNY
S H O W M E P A R T Y G U Y Y O U C O W A R D S
“Steven, you should join me. become a raisin” ok Garnet
did. did Steven completely cut Garnet off as she was talking about Pink Diamond and the Gem War with the whole, “yeah, yeah, i get it, Mom. i already heard this story” kinda thing? B R U H that ain’t okay
AND GARNET JUST SHUTS UP AND WAS LIKE “good, you understand”
PEARL WAS GONNA STRAIGHT UP ADMIT TO SOME HUGE THING AFTER HER “THERE ARE THINGS THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO EXPLAIN” LINE AND HE CUTS HER OFF WITH “CONNIE HATES ME”
WHY COULDN’T STEVEN AT LEAST TELL THESE FOUR THAT HE WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT CONNIE HATING HIM?!
I’M KINDA GETTING SICK OF SEEING STEVEN MOPE LIKE THIS FOR 3 EPISODES STRAIGHT AND I HOPE HE DOESN’T KEEP THIS UP FOR THE NEXT 2
OH NO, PLEASE DISREGARD ALL OF THE MESSED UP THINGS YOU SAW ON HOMEWORLD CAUSE CONNIE IS (rightfully) UPSET WITH YOU. LARS D I E D.
GUITAR DAD SAVES THE DAY
i love Greg Universe
how would you not notice if you aren’t getting any service on your phone? your phone tells you when you’re getting service or not
bruh you almost made your dad drive off a cliff for you to get phone service
Greg Universe is a ride or die kinda guy
this ending shot is cute, i’ll give you that.
episode rating: 2 party guys out of 5. Party Guy should’ve bitten Steven’s phone and his shit attitude. also PEARL WTF ARE YOU TELL US ALREADY
BACK TO THE KINDERGARTEN
Connie i miss you
“of the three things i have to do in the sink now, this is the one i least mind you seeing” B R U H
Peridot listens to country music, this is disgusting
HOLY SHIT AMETHYST IS TOSSIN’ PERIDOT AROUND LIKE SHE WEIGHS NOTHING AND I’M CRACKING UP
“can i bring my music?” “NO.” damn Amethyst you already threw Peri around like she ain’t nothin’, let her bring her music if it’ll help her
aaaay, they’re in the train again!
dang, Peri really loved the barn.
i kinda like that Amethyst is going around trying to figure out which member of the Famethyst came out of which part of the Kindergarten. kinda cute.
so everything is seriously determined by the nutrition, right down to the style of a Gem’s hair? ...huh. iron deposits determine hair styles.
damn, Peri went with a sucker punch to the gut with her little speech about how Kindergartens kill off life and are just “lifeless husks” once all the Gems are done being formed. and Amethyst feels awful about it, dang.
ok. there’s a flower growin’ in the Kindergarten, and that should technically be impossible due to all of the nutrients in this one area being used up. this could be interesting.
ok, so now the trio is gonna farm & see what happens. ok, ok, i can roll with this i guess.
FARMING MONTAGE
look at them flowers
they proud
don’t make Peri live here
why the flamingo thingy taller than both of them
gods i didn’t need to see Steven happily showering
they’re talking about how the flowers are probs gonna look beautiful i bet they all died, they’re too positive about this. $5 them flowers are dead.
them flowers are dead,
...now they’re arguing, cause Peri blew up on them. alright. this ain’t good.
aaaaaaaaaaaand Peri crushed the original flower that grew here. both Steven & Amethyst made pained whimpers. ok. this ain’t good.
oh it’s a Gem creature- haven’t seen one of those in a while!
IT ATE PERIDOT HOLY FUCK
SMOKEY QUARTZ IS BACK
ngl i like Smokey’s theme music
btw there’s no dialogue from Smokey, just a quick 2 second thing
Peri doesn’t reform with a star on her
ok, that was kinda cute. and having a technician that also likes gardening is cute too
episode rating: 3.5 dead sunflowers outta 5. it was an okay episode & i did like it.
SADIE KILLER
heh, i get it. cause lady killer.
oh god, that looks bad
WHY IS THAT MOP SO BIG
instead of reading off a long-ass list to the overly worked employee, just hand Sadie the list so she won’t fuck up?
“and a coffee. hold the coffee.” same tbh
oh. he’s in a band with the Cool Kids. WE GET TO SEE THE COOL KIDS!
“...i hope he [Lars] is safe and all, but working all these shifts by myself has been a huge drag” GIRL, LARS DIED IN SPACE AND IS STILL THERE
Steven stealing all the napkins is something i’d do tbh
man, i love the Cool Kids
is my girl Jenny rockin’ the bass? aaaaaaaaaaay!
Sour Cream, what the HECK IS RAP-A-BILLY?
“Doo-doo. Butt. The government corrupts” Buck is the voice of this generation
welcome to EB Games
they... they admitted to following her home from work....
“doo-doo. i think i broke your bed” Buck wtf
also, i guess them watching all of Sadie’s horror movies gave them inspiration to do that weird donut-brain-eating song. weird.
“we are the working dead, and we lurch for minimum wage” same Sadie
......ok, she’s freaking everyone out. and they look uncomfortable. Sadie, seriously stop. they’re concerned.
...she. put lipstick on her eyes.
see, if she wasn’t freakin’ everyone out with this, i’d say this song is a bop.
ok they’re fine now & thought it was lit ok cool cool cool. i ain’t a big fan of the lyrics tbh, but i do like the song.
“aww, doo-doo”
ok so Steven’s askin’ for advice on how to write horror-themed songs from Sadie. how about LARS DIED ON HOMEWORLD
SADIE’S ADVICE IS:
LOSE YOUR LIFE TO A BORING JOB
LOSE THE ONE PERSON YOU WERE CLOSE TO
LOSE YOUR MIND WORKIN A TON OF SHIFTS
GIRL FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Steven puttin’ Sadie on blast, good lord he just sang an accidental roast tryin’ to sing shit like she does
HE STOLE ALL THE NAPKINS AGAIN
“you can’t help being cute no more than i can help being cool” Buck, you’re a blessing
“yoooooo, what if this is all a dream? Buck, wtf?
oh. Sadie’s goin’ with them. okay.
OH. SHE QUIT HER JOB. UM. OKAY?
episode rating: 3 funky riffs out of 5. Buck Dewey is great.
KEVIN PARTY
I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH THIS EPISODE, BUT IMMA DO IT ANYWAY
DIDN’T EVEN START THE EPISODE AND I STILL FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE
let’s just get this over with...
why’d Steven wait this long to track down Lion?!
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh, here he is......
gods, i still hate him
stop being gross to kids, leave Steven and Connie alone ya freak
at least he knows they use they/them pronouns.
how did he find out where Connie is? doesn’t she live far away from Beach City? did he track down these two kids just to “invite” Stevonnie?!
“no one turns down an invitation to a Kevin party” i sure as fuck would
lmao Kevin has an old phone
“your name’s Steven? weird, i thought your name was Clarence” OI, DON’T INSULT CLARENCE LIKE THAT
rude, Steven brought snacks and ya just toss ‘em into the void?
ok. he’s creepily obsessed with Stevonnie cause apparently they make parties and shit like that hella fun. um. stop? being obsessed with kids??
WTF WHY IS LION AT THE PARTY
Connie actually showed up. and had Lion the entire time. that’s. super fucked up. Lion is the ONLY way to get to Lars directly!
and also, there’s TWO KIDS AT A PARTY WITH OLDER PEOPLE?! NO ONE BUT DERRICK QUESTIONS THIS?
Kevin’s gonna try to get them to talk to each other... so they can form Stevonnie... so his party won’t suck...
also, he keeps calling them 7-year-olds........ siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh, ok Kevin.
KEVIN YOU IDIOT LET THEM TALK TO EACH OTHER SO HE CAN SAY SORRY DON’T GIVE HIM YOUR “COOL GUY” BULLSHIT
“i need those old people to whisper my name when they die” tbh goals
“who’s Sabina?” Kevin got all red in the face and almost lost his cool
so Kevin’s gonna try to make Steven look like he’s moved on from Connie or some shit. this won’t end well.
NO, NOT DERRICK’S JACKET
now we get a montage of 2 kids being uncomfortable surrounded by older people at a party they should’t be at, ok.
at least Connie looks cute. and she got a haircut! so cute!
NOT CUTE NOT CUTE NOT CUTE
GOD, I HATE KEVIN
Steven, what are you doing?
STEVEN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
ok, quick recap cause i didn’t mention this: Kevin thought Steven & Connie were dating, so, Connie only went to the party to see if Steven’s okay and if they could talk. Steven decided to follow Kevin’s advice for some reason, and Connie thinks Steve’s new BFF is Kevin, and Kevin has no concept of what friends are.
so. Connie didn’t text Steven cause she preferred talking face to face about this, and that texting him wasn’t good enough to work out these issues. very fair point. still don’t get why you legit stole Lion from him, but the not texting back thing makes complete sense.
ok, she rode Lion to his house while Steven, Greg & the Gems were away (the episode Gemcation). and that’s when she bumped into Kevin and got the invite. ok. now Kevin is slightly less creepy, but still disgusting nonetheless.
oh, yay! they’re talking it out! and Steven isn’t disregarding Connie’s anger!
yay! they’re friends again!
don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie, don’t form Stevonnie.
LMAO GET FUCKED, KEVIN, THEY AIN’T FORMIN’ STEVONNIE
episode rating: 1 Lion out of 5. least fave episode, tbh. but hey, we got Connie back!

never fade away, part vi
i cant tell you how many times i’ve re-written this just to have it all be deleted again. too many times.
i have a bad sunburn and it huuuuuuuurts like a mf.
let’s get this show on the road.
_____________________________________________
You knew, deep in the back of your mind, that no matter how smoothly your life had been going since you got home, something would eventually come along to mess it all up again. To reference an overused quote, “Nothing gold can stay.” You were indescribably happy every time you hung out with friends at a party or went for a car ride. You’d all sometimes even go exploring in old abandoned warehouses and take pictures. Such is the life of a high schooler on summer break. This, for you, was the calm before the storm.
Every once in a while, you’d wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, adrenaline rushing through your veins, heart pumping out of your chest. The copper-haired teenage psychopath who held you captive for weeks still had yet to make his way out of your nightmares. Sometimes, in the few seconds after you shot up from bed, you were paralyzed with the fear that he might be hiding in the dark corners of your room, and that he was going to kidnap you again- or worse. But your eyes would adjust and you would see that it was just you, the gentle humming of the fan in your room, and your dog sleeping soundly at your side; you would snuggle into the 10-month-old Australian Shepherd tightly and fall right back asleep.
You had gotten the dog, named Sadie, not long after the incident. Being a herding breed, she was very protective-a quality your parents valued (as they trusted she would grow into your personal guard dog, of sorts). She had a few months of being trained by a professional under her belt before your family adopted her, so she was not completely clueless on how to protect and alert you to danger if she sensed it. Your mother felt much more at ease knowing that you were being watched after, especially after you had flat-out refused to stay home and lay low for a while (“I’m not going to hide for the rest of my life mother. I’m not going to let the possibility of danger keep me from living my life. I’m not afraid of what’s out there.”)
You’d gotten in the habit of taking Sadie on walks, which is what you were doing the day the walls of your calm, normal life shattered once more. One decision to take a shortcut down an empty alley had changed the rest of your day. Sadie’s ears perked up and she stopped dead in her tracks before turning around and barking furiously. You whipped around suddenly and were met with the image of a small, greasy man with a smile that made you uneasy, and a tall man in a police uniform with a bloody bandage wrapped around his entire face and… copper hair. There was a chance it wasn’t the boy you guessed that it was, because come on, he was dead!- but you weren’t willing to take that chance. You sprinted off in the opposite direction as fast as your legs would carry you, Sadie as your side, seemingly trying to guide you to safety.
(Excerpt from a conversation you never heard: “Oh-oh my God! It’s her! I never imagined it would be this easy-!”
“Who? What are you talking about? Who’s ‘her’?”
“Going into the alley! Right there with the dog! That’s (y/n)! The two of you were meant to be together! See, we- the cult, that is- we tried to get her to join, since she’d been your… well, your… well, we couldn’t ever get her to tell us about your relationship. We all just assumed she was your girlfriend- after all, you had kept her with you for a few weeks, you seemed pretty possesive, too- but she wouldn’t ever talk to us… We all just guessed she was traumatized after watching you… die… Although-“
“Hey man, shut up. Tell me the rest of the story when we get back… Help me grab her, would you?”)
What you weren’t expecting in this unrealistic, nightmarish experience was actually making it safely to the next street over and finding help.
It didn’t happen, either.
There was suddenly a strong grip around your stomach, effectively lifting you off the ground, leaving you kicking and screaming for help. A cold, pallid hand left your side to roughly grab your face and hold it still. You were staring directly into the eyes of the bandaged and bloodied face, and you were terrified beyond words. “Hm,” he said in a croaky, gravelly voice you almost were familiar with, “You do look pretty familiar… Oh! Of course! I remember you now! Hey, how ya been-” His half-hearted greeting was cut short by Sadie gnawing on his left calf. (“Good girl”, you thought.) “Ow!” He rolled his eyes and tried to get a hold of his gun and shoot her, but before he could aim it, you were wildly pulling his arm away from her.
“NO! STOP!” You screamed, at the top of your lungs. “SADIE, RUN!” You half expected her to not move a muscle, because this was not a movie, and she probably didn’t even know that command, but to your surprise and relief, she bolted in the other direction. “LET ME GO!” You continued to shout, “GET OFF ME! STOP IT! G-” You were muffled by his hand covering your mouth.
“Chill out, would ya? God, the one person I wasn’t planning on killing tonight, and THIS is the thanks I get.” You were being thrown into the backseat of the car at this point, followed by the one who had carried you there. “You know where we’re going,” he noted to the other man, and shoved him in the driver’s seat. You, of course, were already clawing at the other door to get it to open, not a clue in the world as to what your plan would be if you really got out. “Jeez, would you- Would you stop that? Do you /want/ me to drug you?”
“NO! Let me OUT! GOD! I am not about to be kidnapped AGAIN by the same ginger freak! YOU SHOULD BE DEAD! WHAT THE FUCK! Get AWAY from me! LET ME GO! Get AWAY from me! YOU RUINED MY LIFE, YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING NARCISSIST!” He said nothing in response, only grabbed a hold of both of your hands, and started tying them together using a wad of fresh gauze tape rolled up and laying on the floor. You figured that was the same thing he had used to bandage his face as well.
“Not that I’m against it or anything, but unless you want me to gag you as well, I’d suggest shutting the hell up. ‘Kay babe?”
You just sharply nodded, and shrunk away from him and as close to the door as possible. Sinking into the backseat of the car, you looked out through the window and were met with the view of an industrial park. “Hey, uh…” Jerome started, directing his words towards the gross little man driving. “What’s her name again?”
“(y/n),” the man offered.
“Right, (y/n), uh… What have you been up to since I died?”
You were absolutely incredulous. “Are… Are you joking with me right now? Is this a joke? Dude seriously?” He nodded. “Oh my God. Well if you NEED to know, I was in a psych ward for 6 weeks after I finally escaped because I had “severe mental trauma”, my body rejected solid foods for 9 days because YOU refused to feed me anything other than apple sauce and yogurt, and I had 3 different psychology professors fighting over who got to use me in their next case study. I also had to catch up on 4 weeks worth of school on my OWN time because the American public school system is shit, and no one at school talked to me for 2 weeks because they all thought you might have fucking brainwashed me. My life was JUST starting to go back to normal! I got my driver’s license-“
He seemed to be interested in this. “You had a birthday? You’re sixteen now?” You nodded. “Wow. That’s really a shame. Can’t believe I missed my girl’s birthday.”
“Fuck off. I’m not your anything.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll come around eventually.” His face (or, rather, lack thereof) lit up in a split second as he turned to you. “Ooh! I got an idea,” he grinned as the stolen police car you were in stopped in front of an abandoned warehouse. "Y'ever been to a carnival?”
“What? No,” you replied. He and his greasy friend both got out of the car before he walked over to your side, open the door, and pulled you out by your bicep.
"Don’t even think about runnin’, babe. That won’t end well.”

Melting Magnets: a Sanubis Fic
One of my old Sanubis fics. Enjoy!
WARNING: Non-descriptive mentions of sex. Brief adult language. Rated high T.
Sadie knew she should have been a smidge more careful with the mission, but honestly, it wasn't like she was trying to release a horde of demons into the Met and collapse from straining her magic. She wasn't sure why Anubis was making such a big deal out of it.
"I'm making a big deal out of it because you were an inch away from dying," he hissed, his gorgeous coffee-colored eyes alight with anger. Really, it wasn't fair that he looked so attractive, even while yelling at her. When she found him in her room so late at night, she hoped he had a different sort of passionate encounter on his mind, but that clearly wasn't going to happen any time soon. "Did you even take a second to consider the consequences of the spell?"
"Alright, I thought you promised to cut the bloody mind-reading shit," she snapped back, crossing her arms over her chest. "And what was I supposed to do; let the demons wreak havoc on the rest of Brooklyn? You know I couldn't let that happen."
"I thought you promised to stop being so reckless with your life. You could have let Carter, or Zia, or literally anyone else who was there help you take care of the problem!"
"I know my limits," she shouted, her sapphire eyes glittering dangerously. "I've used ha-di a thousand times! I only passed out for a minute!"
"You've never used it on this large a scale!" Anubis spread his hands wide, clearly getting more and more frustrated. "One of the reasons your father allowed me to stay here with you was so that I could keep you safe. How am I supposed to do that if you keep throwing yourself in the path of danger? I shouldn't have to keep checking the faces of the souls lining up for judgment every time I have to go to the Duat, hoping that you're not one of them!"
"Look, Death Boy, I'm seventeen; I'm not a child anymore! And you're my boyfriend, not my babysitter!"
"Sadie, as much as I wish you weren't, you are still mortal. Every time you over-extend your powers, you come close to death. I cannot watch you kill yourself out of sheer stupidity!" He ran his fingers through his jet-black hair, sighing in frustration. "I'm needed back at the Hall of Judgment. I trust you can manage to not die in the time I'm gone."
She let out a gasp of indignation as he pushed the air in front of him, creating a doorway of darkness.
"Fuck you!" she shouted at his back as he stepped through the portal, angrily tugging at the red streak in her blonde hair. Then she turned and screamed into her pillow.
"Woah, someone had a rough night," Jaz joked as Sadie walked into the infirmary. Zia, bandaging a burn on one of the anklebiters, chuckled quietly before freeing her charge. "Let me get you an energy potion. How was he?"
Sadie supposed Jaz had the right to make assumptions. Her makeup was smudged, her hair was a tangled mess, and she probably looked like she didn't get any sleep the night before (which was true). She was lucky it was Saturday—she was definitely not in the mood to deal with Drew and the rest of the Plastic BAGs.
"Nothing happened," Sadie grumbled, accepting the potion Jaz handed to her. "We got into a bloody fight about the mission. I don't know why Anubis got so upset—I've had way closer calls before!"
Jaz looked up from putting gauze back on the infirmary shelf and quirked a perfectly shaped blonde eyebrow. Zia narrowed her amber eyes.
"Fine," Sadie sighed, sinking onto one of the infirmary beds. "I get it. He just doesn't want to see me hurt, blah, blah, blah. What should I do?"
"I would just apologize," Zia suggested, sitting down on the bed across from her. "If I'm being totally honest, you were a tiny bit reckless last night."
"Yeah, yeah, I should have let everyone help me instead of panicking," she said, crossing her arms. "No one realized how many demons there were at the museum. I thought I could handle it."
"Well, at least you realize what you did wrong," Jaz mentioned. "You and Anubis get into little fights all the time. Just handle it like the ones before."
"Yeah, but before, we would just make out before it got too intense," Sadie said, collapsing back onto the bed. "This is the first one where he actually left."
Zia sighed. "Look, the only experience I have in relationships is with your brother—"
"Which is why I don't exactly trust your judgment when it comes to romance."
"But anyone can see that you two have a huge, magnetic attraction," Zia continued. "I know I didn't approve of you and Anubis at the beginning, but he definitely cares for you. You've been together for four years. He won't be gone for long."
"Whenever he comes back from his hissy fit, just kiss and make up," Jaz maintained, flipping back her curly blonde ponytail and moving over to where Sadie was sitting. "Whenever Walt and I have a fight, we always try to get it out of the way as soon as possible."
"Alright, fine," Sadie reluctantly agreed, running her hand through her red-streaked hair. "I won't make any promises—I'm still pissed off about it. Now I'm going to go teach my divine words class on no sleep. This will be marvelous."
"As the closest thing we have to a doctor, I'm going to recommend you don't do any intense magic today," Jaz said, crossing her arms. "Just go get something to eat and take a nap—you need to restore your energy levels."
"I'll cover your class," Zia added, playing with a fire amulet around her neck.
"Thanks, you guys." Sadie chugged the rest of the energy potion. "I'll tell you how it goes."
"Oh, and Sadie?" Zia called after her. "You might want to clean yourself up a bit. It's hard to feel better when you, ah, don't look your best."
"And if everything does go well with Anubis tonight, remember to use protection!" Jas shouted after her.
Sadie flipped a certain finger at them before walking away. Honestly, she needed better friends.
She collapsed on her bed, still in her combat books, red tank, and black jeans from earlier, and groaned. It seemed that, as per usual, nothing in Brooklyn House would wait for her romantic issues to be resolved. After being quite rudely awakened from her nap by her brother, she was forced to answer the questions of some moronic old magicians in the First Nome, deal with what Felix aptly named an "Ice-pocalypse," reprimand Felix for using his powers in the dining room, apologize to Felix for making him sob, and confiscate one of Walt's lion amulets from the anklebiters. What's more, that bloody-minded Jackal Boy hadn't shown up since the fight, and she was getting more and more irritated by the minute.
Sadie was debating whether or not she was recovered enough to use ha-di on him when a knock sounded from her door. She muttered some choice words under her breath as she heaved herself up and stomped over to answer it.
"Carter, I swear to all the gods of Egypt, if those old gits have another question, I will—" She stopped abruptly when she realized it was not, in fact, her brother standing at the door.
Anubis stood in the hallway, looking as attractive as ever in his skinny black jeans, white T-shirt, and classic leather jacket. His hair was perfectly rumpled in his typical just-had-amazing-sex fashion, and he had a stupid little half-smirk on his gorgeous face.
"Lady Kane," he said, raising his eyebrow slightly.
"Oh, no," she huffed, narrowing her black-rimmed eyes. "You do not get to leave me in the middle of a fight, show up an entire twenty-four hours later unannounced, and go all Lady Kane on me, expecting me to drop my panties and forget everything."
He sighed through his nose, tilting his head to the side. "May I come in?"
Sadie crossed her arms over her chest. "What, so you can give me another lecture about being responsible? I get it, Death Boy. I wouldn't have used the spell if there wasn't another option, and if you think I'm just going to pretend that there was anything else I could have done—"
"By Osiris' Kingdom, you are so infuriating sometimes," he interrupted, sounding exasperated, before leaning in and locking their lips together, hard. She rolled her eyes and kissed back, tangling her hands in his hair and deepening the kiss. He slipped his hands around her waist and pulled her towards him.
"Are you going to let me in now?" he asked after a few moments, his eyes smoldering.
"Oh, shut up," Sadie snapped, grabbing him by his jacket and pulling him into her room. She shoved off his jacket and resumed snogging him thoroughly, slipping her hands under his shirt, grazing her knuckles against his toned stomach and bringing him even closer to her.
He growled low in his throat. The next thing she knew, Anubis had lifted her up and pressed her against the wall by her bed. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he started kissing down her neck. She had almost forgotten how strong he was—being the god of funerals really gave him an unfair advantage. As she busied herself with undoing his belt, the way he pushed her shoulders back with his forearm as he grazed his hands across her chest was almost painful. Unwillingly, she let out a tiny gasp of discomfort.
Anubis pulled back, his eyes widening. His hair was now a tangled mess, and he looked a bit dazed. "Did I…Did I hurt you?"
"I'm fine," Sadie muttered, glancing down and dropping her feet to the floor. "Just get back here."
He looked at her quietly for a moment, his head cocked to the side, before leaning back in with a decidedly gentler kiss. The clothing that separated them started to slowly came off until there were no barriers between them, and the sound of their heavy breathing blocked out all other noises.
When it was over, they lay tangled in the sheets of her bed, her bare back against his chest. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pressed a chaste kiss to her shoulder.
"I apologize for last night," Anubis said quietly, stroking her hair softly. "I… I wouldn't be able to bear it if anything happened to you. I overreacted, and I'm sorry for that."
"It's alright," she whispered, turning over to face him. "I overreacted as well. I'll attempt to be more careful."
He pressed another kiss to her forehead. "I trust your judgment. Until you get granted immortality, I will attempt to not panic."
Sadie snorted lightly and closed her eyes, snuggling closer into his warmth. "Don't get ahead of yourself, Jackal-Head. That's a while into the future."
"I know," he whispered softly, as her breathing mellowed out. "I love you."
"Mm-hmm," she said sleepily. He might have said something else, but she was already asleep.
