I can't answer for much of anything beyond the timeskip (which was where I left off last time I was actively reading the manga, I've read ahead a bit on a few details for clarification but nothing extensive). I'm on the fence about almost any pairing with Luffy because he just comes across as aromantic to me, but that's a personal opinion.

Only one I've personally encountered that made me twitch was Mihawk x Zoro. Just. I cannot. Very I-wear-glasses-so-I-literally-had-to-pay-to-witness-this about it.

To each their own, I don't harp on anyone's ships, but that's not one I can handle.

(this is THE fic that got me into the witcher fandom and i can't believe i never reced this before. renfri & jaskier's siblingship is so damn good and just, the amount of effort put into their backstory and relationship makes me want to cry sometimes. and yennefer, ohoho, yennefer is at her Best here, i love her in this fic and her relationship with these siblings! geralt both makes me want to punch him and hug him, which is the norm and totally understandable hahaha! seriously, one of the best witcher fics i've ever read, please please read!)

“huh. he looks better than you, actually,” she says, a hand under her chin. she dodges neatly around ace’s elbow jab and frowns. “why’s your hair wet?”

sabo blinks, like he’d been unaware of this. to be fair, it had dried considerably in the sunlight. he reaches up to roll a strand between his fingertips. “chemical tank,” he mentions lightly, after sparing koala another look. she quickly drops the subject.

“i’m koala.” she holds out a hand and sabo takes it. “and you are?”

“system of acute biowarfare organics,” he recites. ace screws up his face and sabo blinks after catching sight of it. “you can just call me sabo,” he tells koala.

“no wait, back up.” she frowns. “that sounds . . what does that mean?”

“my blood is poisonous,” he tells her. she quickly drops his hand.

“oh.” her voice grows faint. “i see.” she turns to ace next. “you didn’t tell me your clone is a biological weapon!” she hisses.

“i didn’t know!” ace insists. “i literally just found out!”

“i told you my name earlier,” sabo says to him, brows furrowing. 

ace groans. “yeah, but i didn’t ask what it meant.” i was distracted by something else.

“that’s not my fault.”

“stop being a prick!” ace snaps.

sabo blinks, and his expression grows dull. “what’s a prick?”

ace’s eyes grow wide. beside him, koala starts to laugh. “i already like him better than you,” she says, and ace sputters.

before he can reply properly, she addresses sabo again. “nice to meet you. i have a lot of questions, but i’ll save you the grief and just ask one for now. why are you a system of poisonous blood? aren’t you a human body?”

“my predecessor were the storage of acute biowarfare organics,” sabo admits. “they decided a system that could reproduce the toxin would be far better.”

koala hums. “i think dragon may forgive you, actually, if you play your cards right,” she mentions to ace. 

ace crosses his arms over his chest. “that’s not why i went and got him.”

she rolls her eyes. “i know. i’m just trying to help.”

“well you’re not.”

“oh fuck off!” she turns away. “sabo, tell him that when he’s annoying you.”

“don’t listen to her!” ace snaps.

sabo’s eyes narrow. “fuck off.”

ace gasps. koala breaks into hysterics. “i definitely like him better than you!” she howls.

dragon eyes him carefully, leant back in his chair. “you could have been seen.”

“he’s some sort of biological weapon.”

dragon’s brow raises. “and he just defected willingly?”

“in all fairness, sir, he recognized their plans for him were wrong.” ace hesitates, just for a moment. “i offered him freedom. he accepted.”

dragon nods in understanding, a silent agreement passing between them. then he nods again. “i’ll forgive you if you let me analyze his blood.”

ace blinks, caught off-guard, because he hadn’t expected such an easy out.

“i do not think that is a good idea,” sabo says, later on in the day, after being introduced to dragon.

dragon’s face grows pensive. “and why not?”

“i am unsure the material you have to extract the blood is strong enough to contain it,” he confesses.

“what is strong enough, then?”

sabo shrugs. he’d seen ace do it in lieu of an answer earlier. dragon seems to accept it.

“hm.” dragon turns to ace. “looks like you’re not off the hook.”

ah. great.

“so, this is my room.” ace gestures to the near-empty space, then drops his arm with little effort. “our room, now, i guess. uh.” he sighs. “you can take the bed. i probably won’t be back in until morning.” it takes effort to contain his next sigh, and he moves further into the room to allow sabo better access.

the blond walks in slowly, examining everything in the room even when that means very little. ace doesn’t spend a lot of time here, anyway. it’s very impersonal. he moves over to the small dresser while sabo looks around.

“you should take a shower,” he mumbles. “i’ll lend you some clothes.”

“are we the same size?” sabo asks, the first thing he’s said since they left dragon’s office. ace turns his head over his shoulder to look at him.

“i’d be very surprised if we weren’t.” his tone borders on deadpan, but sabo either doesn’t get it or doesn’t let it affect him.

“surely we have different builds,” he insists, though the emotion in his voice is lackluster. “i haven’t been alive for very long, and i certainly haven’t kept the same schedule as you.”

ace shrugs, turns back to the drawer, and hurriedly pulls out a white nightshirt. “it’ll be fine. we’re at least the same height.” he closes the door and hands sabo a stack of clothes consisting of the button-down, socks, underwear, and an older pair of sweats. he’s careful to avoid skin contact, even if he knows sabo doesn’t have any open cuts, or any cuts at all. his blood is perfectly inside his body, where it should be, but the conversation with dragon still has him on edge. “do you need help showering?”

sabo looks at him oddly. “no. i’ve done it before.”

“that was a joke,” ace says too fast. he’s actually mildly surprised sabo was subjected to that. 

as if guessing his thoughts, sabo’s fingers squeeze on the clothing and he opens his mouth. “they needed to make sure i could be delicate enough to function. my body is a container, more than anything.”

ace waves him off. “really, it’s okay. you don’t have to explain. look, the shower’s through here.” he spins on his heel and opens a door in the middle of the far wall. “i share it with kohza, next door, so just remember to unlock this when you leave,” ace tells him, locking the other door as he does. 

“unlock the door,” sabo echoes. “got it.” he settles the clothes on the small counter, then fumbles with the clasp of the cloak. ace purses his lips and steps back through to the bedroom. sabo reminds ace so much of . . of him that he can’t stand it.

even more so when he turns back to shut the door, sabo’s eyes wide and innocent and curious on him, just like a certain little boy he used to-

“i’ll be back,” ace chokes out, forcing down that thought immediately. “go to sleep, if you can. i’ll be here in the morning.”

he doesn’t give sabo time to reply, fleeing the room in a hurry.

“i thought i would find you in here,” conis says drily, opening the door further, and ace blinks rapidly as his eyes adjust to the bright light from the hallway. lucky for him, conis slips into the room fully and casts it back into its lamp-lit glory.

ace frowns, registering her words, and turns back to his scrolls. “guess word gets around fast,” he mutters. “well, feel free to take my place.”

“reorganizing the archives doesn’t sound nearly as interesting as reading through the materials,” conis retaliates, waving a hand dismissively. still, she comes to sit at a close distance, mindful of the scrolls scattered between them. and on the floor. and on the tables. and overflowing the shelves. one would think it would be quite useful to have an archive room that was perfectly organized, especially for the delicate work they performed. and it had been, at one point. but then an earthquake had sent the room to ruin, and between this and that, there just hadn’t been anyone free to straighten it up.

until ace. lucky him.

“che,” ace ticks, setting a scroll to the side. “why are you here, then? come to keep me entertained?”

“you look alike.”

ace stills his hands. “you saw him?”

“i saw you two together, earlier. it shocked me a little bit, because when i heard you had a clone, i was expecting a carbon copy.”

“me too,” ace admits. he forces himself to relax, dropping his shoulders, tension bleeding from his arms entirely. he looks up at conis, and her pale hair and fair complexion remind him of an earlier train of thought. he’s careful as he voices it. “i think it still is, genetically. it took me a bit to realize, but i think they pulled on my recessive genes. that, or his pigment mutated in response to-” 

ace cuts himself off, mouth still open, and zones out, eyes unfocusing. dragon hadn’t said to keep it a secret, and koala already knew, and koala was friends with conis. ace trusted conis, too, but information like sabo’s blood being toxic and nearly uncontainable was sensitive, and he suddenly wasn’t sure how willing he was to share. sabo just got here, after all. it wouldn’t do to have everyone afraid of him.

“hm,” he settles. “anyway, even though he doesn’t look exactly like me, he’s not a version that would have been impossible, either.” 

he’d thought about that a lot, sailing back. sabo had his mom’s blonde hair, and her bright eyes, and her lighter skin. as much as he loathed to admit it, ace really did resemble his father far more. looking at sabo was almost like looking at a mirror complexion of what he could’ve been. really, if it weren’t for their shared dna -and, like, exact, too. he wasn’t ace’s clone for nothing- they still looked startlingly similar enough to pass as brothers-

ace feels a sudden, deep pang in his heart and he’s so glad conis picks this moment to speak up again.

“dragon isn’t as upset as he seems, about you going,” she tells him, and, ah, she must pick up on the subtle way ace’s face changes, because ace knows she wants to ask more, but she’s moved on to another topic instead. this is why he likes conis. 

ace gestures around the room. “you sure? i’ll be here all night.”

“he was concerned about someone finding out you’re alive. he doesn’t mean to keep you under lock and key, ace.” conis reaches out, realizes the scrolls are still between them, and forfeits the motion. “i think he’s excited, if anything.” there’s a gleam in her eyes, when ace turns to look. “like it or not, you stole something important from them. things are going to develop. rapidly.”

“is it stealing if he went willingly?”

“to them it will be. not my point, ace, listen.” 

this time she leans forward to place a hand on ace’s shoulder, closing the distance enough to stare into his eyes. “you’re the one who brought him here,” she reminds him. “now you have to be ready to accept the consequences.”

ace swallows, the words daunting. he is sure she means more than the punishment he’s enduring for having gone off on his own.

20. Who’s the ship’s biggest in-universe supporter?

For AceLu + SaboLu, ASL OT3

I actually had to think HARD on this one, because I think they’d have a LOT of support.

Them all being guys, being in a polyamorous triad, even being sworn brothers…I mean, no matter how unconventional and socially taboo their relationship is, they’re pirates (or, a Revolutionary in Sabo’s case, but still working well outside the norms of society).

Luffy’s crew definitely supports their Captain and any choices he should make. The brothers’ past is still mostly a mystery, though they learn more and more every time Ace and Sabo come by and the longer they stick around. But they know they’ll never learn everything, because the brothers have a special and unique bond, just as special as that between the Straw Hats, and they’re not going to pry. But it’s clear that Luffy loves them dearly and that his affection is returned, and they know the older brothers would die for him (one already has, literally coughs tho he came back in this setting).

The former Whitebeard pirates feel much the same about Ace. They find it the easiest to shrug at the “sworn brothers” part, because after all, the entire Whitebeard crew technically also consists of “honorary brothers,” and well, some of their own brothers are definitely not solely platonic. If these boys are special to Ace, then they support him. But they also can’t hide their interest in the two brothers who are technically even younger than their own youngest baby brother Ace, and if Ace takes his eyes off of them for one second, he finds the other former Commanders coddling the crap out of Sabo and Luffy. After all, they’re brothers by proxy! Sabo is alarmed, and insists that he and Ace are equally Big Brother (which to the Whitebeards just means “baby bro”), while Luffy basks in the attention. No, Ace is not jealous, no, he’s not worried about being out Big Brothered by his own crew…

In the Revolutionary Army, no judgement and freedom in their private life has always been the rule. With Iva as their Commander and a core influencer of culture in the Revolutionary Army, everyone’s used to embracing free expression of both self and love. Almost everyone Sabo works with is queer in some way or another, and it honestly would have been more of a shock if Sabo’d turned out straight. So there’s certainly no judgement on that point. And everyone knows (way too much, to the point they wish he’d just stop, please) how much Sabo loves his brothers, and it isn’t an exaggeration to say that Sabo himself was probably the last person in the entire base to realize his affection included romantic feelings. On the outside, the Army is just exasperated, but inside they’re happy their Chief of Staff gets to be with the only people he’s ever been so openly affectionate towards.

Dragon, who is still distant with Luffy and simply watches over him from afar, says it’s none of his business what he or Sabo does; they should choose their own paths. But secretly, could he really trust anyone more with his son than his own right hand man?

Garp laments that they’re not all Marines, but other than that looks ecstatic, and demands that now, Ace and Sabo must call him ‘Grandpa,’ it’s unavoidable now that it’s official, since they’re getting married! (Wait! No one said we’re getting married! WTF)

There are plenty of others. Hancock, who is both jealous, decidedly not given up, but also unable to deny that Luffy looks so incredibly happy. Bartolomeo, who wholeheartedly screams his support for whichever path Luffy decides, even moreso if it includes both “great senpai.”

But their biggest in-universe supporter? Would probably have to be Dadan. Dadan, who raised them, who cried over them when she thought they were gone, who poured sake and reported on the living brothers’ activities at their tree house that she continued to watch over long after they’d left for sea.

(and when they finally do think a lil ceremony of some kind would be nice, she’s the one they ask, there at that tree stump where they exchanged their first vows so many years before)

Basically a review of OP episode 503 ig

Currently rewatching post-war arc (in the dub so I don't have any screenshots for u guys sry) and theres a few things id like to point out.

During a conversation Dadan once had with Garp, they were talking about Roger. Garp said that even if they were facing powerful enemies, he would never run away because he wouldnt dare leaving his comrads behind; it wasnt an option for him. Obviously we see this in Ace. But ALSO, isnt this what he did with Katakuri? It was a little different cuz of the setting mostly, but he separated himself from his crew to fight off katakuri, and lied to them about being okay so they didn't worry (he was already getting his ass kicked by then, so he just made that stupid smile and told them not to worry (or smth like that, I can remember the exact line) (that smile was so gross and fake cuz he fucking sucks at lying). Also he said roger destroyed a buncha soldiers cuz they mouthed off his men. That's what Ace tried to do but instead he died. :(

"The pain he went through just made him hold on tighter to the ones he loved" -Garp, about Roger. "Despite his flaws and his bad reputation, his crew still trusted him completely." -also Garp, about Roger. These both sound a lot like Luffy AND Ace.

When Dogra got home and told everyone about Sabo's ship being shit down and him dying (which we all know didnt happen, thank fuck), (by the way the absolutely lost looks on Ace's and Luffy's faces with the sudden silence hurt like a bitch), Luffy started crying and said "WE SHOULDNT'A LET HIM GO, IT'S ALL OUR FAULT". Which fucking says something about him (thinking of episodes 913-915 when he goes fucking berserk, but before that he learns that Kaido probably killed Tama and he says "I should've escorted them..!" (*ugly cries*)). Ace also reacted pretty similarly-- "Sabo...why didn't we go back into town and bring him back here?! We're so stupid!" And he gets mad and asks where he could find the bastard that killed him (obviously not getting a good answer since it was a fucking celestial dragon ugh). That is what Luffy does, in present time. He results to anger first, not sadness. Not sure when he learned to do that but I'm 99 percent sure it was from Ace. Also the blaming himself thing? High chance thats ALSO from Ace. Who else would teach him that self hating behaviour?!

Dadan pins Ace down to stop him from going after the Celestial Dragon to calm him down, telling him he cant do anything, he's not big or strong enough to do anything and he'll be killed as soon as he tries anything, especially since it was the whole country -the whole WORLD- that killed Sabo. He can't do anything. And then they tied him to a tree outside to let him cool off. Oh yeah then he also told luffy to stop crying like a little girl or else he'll- (and he didn't finish the sentence). ...Ok maybe thats why luffy started being more angry than sad.

This is where things get a little more :( . Ace reads the letter Sabo sent them before he died. As he reads, he walks to the end of the forest, to a cliff overlooking the ocean. And starts fucking bawling (btw the voice actor who had Ace's childhood part did not do a very good job, no where near as in character and real as Coleen Clickenberg did with all of Luffy's crying scenes. She was spot on.) ...do you see where im going with that? He isolated himself before letting himself feel sad. It was all rage and then calm beforehand. Y-you see where im going with that. Dont make me say it.

"How's Luffy doing, is he any better?" "Well...he hasnt been eating much, but he still eats twice as much as we do". Oh look, That's what happened after Ace died too. There's a behavioral pattern that hasnt gone away. Not sure why it wouldve tho.

Luffy is mopeing, lying on the ground in a similar setting ace was at when he cried. Hes thinking about some of the things Sabo said, like how theyre gonna sail the seas together, and he clenches his hands into tight, shaking fists. After Ace shows up and hits him, and talking abt some other stuff I don't feel like relaying, Luffy tightens his grip on the straw hat and tells ace, whimpering, he wants to get stronger (and stronger, and stronger, and stronger and stronger and....) And he wants to be the strongest in the world. "And then, I'll protect everyone. I won't lose anyone I care about". He gets stronger mainly to protect the people he loves. And then he asks ace to promise he won't die. To which he hits Luffy again and tells him he should be more worried about himself dying first. And then the famous line that hurts like a bitch- "I'm NEVER going to DIE!" And then this hopeful music comes on (fucking damnit funimation, u gotta do this? Really??) Also he says he wont die as long as he has a wussy little brother to protect. ...FUCK. Ok, the fist clenching is a thing he does all the fucking time, usually when he gets mad. This was different because he wasnt mad, he was sad. He clenched his fist because thinking about it hurt. Which, huh, sounds a lot like his whole episode after waking up from his 2 week coma on the polar tang. To try and stop the mental pain of those horrendous memories, he resulted to physically pain. He hurt himself. So, He clenches his fists in times like these to fight off the mental pain and the urge to cause himself physical pain. Guys, our boy is bad at emotions, help him. ....ok this paragraph is longer than I anticipated so ill dumb down the rest of it ig. Next part, him asking ace to promise he wont die. The music, the body language, the over change in mood- this comforts him. He stopped hiding his face and silently sobbing after ace said this. OH YEAH! didn't he tell jinbe not to die when they parted ways in Totto Land? And then, hes missing still in Wano and we see Luffy is worried....but convinced Jinbe will show up. Again, this comforts him. Hes nervous cuz someone KOFF KOFF ACE broke that promise once. But jinbe is his crew mate so he trusts him, thank god.

"-But whoever did it, they must be opposed to freedom." The whole freedom thing? That runs through Luffy's blood and spirit.His brothers fought for it, his dad is the man who strives to give everyone freedom basically, and Luffy himself has seen enough of the OPPOSITE of freedom to be so, so much more than just against it. Hence why he of course was so eager to free the slaves in Sabaody, the kids in punk hazard, the toys in dressrosa, the country of Wano from Kaido's tyrany. The apple doesnt fall far from the tree huh.

I dont think Luffy would remember his promise with Shanks if it werent for his brothers putting feul to his dream. It was a stupid bet at first; he just wanted to beat Shanks, right then. But after meeting Sabo and Ace, he found the opposite of freedom and human rights. And then he wanted, REALLY wanted, to become the free-est man in the world; the pirate king.

Last one i promise ok? This one is less connected to whats going on in the episode at this point, but something I noticed (its so obvious everyone has seen this ok) was when luffy cries, his posture is always open. He doesn't curl in on himself like many people would do (I know I would, lol). He doesnt hug himself, protect himself. He's just, opened up to whoever is watching, literally. This has a little more to do with something I haven't talked about much in this post yet; his self-destruction issues. I said he tried to hurt himself when he felt mental pain, which is definitely similar. But he cries and doesnt try to protect or comfort himself, like he doesn't have that programmed into his mind. Reminder that he only wants to live because of his dream, and if he doesnt have his dream, he wants to die. (Whoa.). Ok, so no self preservation mechanism at all rlly. Hes basically ride or die. So, when things hurt so much that he cries, he has no hope left. He just kinda...dies inside. So this was mildly different after sabo died. Yes we saw him just standing there, sobbing. But the next day he's still crying, and instead he's laying on the ground. I saw that and the voice in the back of my head told me he wanted to be a part of that lifeless dirt beneath him. Then, Ace walked over. And his words made him feel the hope that I told you about earlier, and he sat up into a sitting position. And HUGGED HIS LEGS TO HIS CHEST. There's some self preservation! Some hope! Some will to exist, to live! Something we saw none of as he sat in front of his brothers corpse, shutting down. He sat there, open to his enemies, incapable of protecting himself. Practically anyone couldve killed him right then and there. I think he mightve liked that, at that moment. Like thank god he has that stupidly good luck cuz if he didn't I swear someone couldve thrown and axe or FUCKING ANYTHING AT THAT MOMENT and hed be dead becuase he never physically or mentally prepared himself. On purpose.

Our poor boy needs some fucking attention and therapists. (Insert my rant post about how jinbe is on the crew primarily for anger management and therapy, not just being a helmsman.) Ugh, smh ugly cries

Aaaaand thats about the end of the episode. Theres so many little tics and peesonality traits that you notive thru this episode, and I only noticed them cuz im rewatching this part of the show for like the third time. I don't react as much as the first time of course but some things are definitely sadder after knowing what's going on and what will happen later on.

Moral of the story (post)? I think luffy is almost equally as alike -if not, more similar to roger as ace is. Also, high key genuinely think Luffy met like NO ONE but Garp before he met Shanks and his crew. What the fuck was his first like 5 years of being alive like? (He wantd to be a pirate cuz Garp didnt want that. Rebellious baby asshole. And then shanks made things worse, in a good way for luffy. And then ace and sabo made that worse thing worse for a good reason. Luffy lives...for those influences. And that is fucking it. Why.

Battle for the Ocean’s Hearts

A/N: Okay my lovelies to celebrate this beautiful day I wanna update chapter 2 of Battle for the Ocean’s hearts as well as explain to you guys why I haven’t been updating.

Okay here goes, somewhere along the line between my birthday and now I lost my love and passion for writing. I literally would rush and force myself to write something anything and I would hate what I had out and didn’t want to tell you guys because I am not use to sharing my feelings and I thought it was better to tell you guys I am almost done with the stories or that I will have them out soon etc. and that was wrong of me to do so and I am sorry.

However, after taking some time off social meida and watching One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Demon Slayer as well as finding a new job and realizing my worth I began to slowly find my passion for writing again, and on this special day I got back my love for writing of course I had to rewrite all my work because like I said I rushed everything and was not happy with it now I am back and I am going to keep my word on the days that I will update my stories ^^ welp that enough of my babbling on with the show ^^ and once again thank you all so much for sticking by me and hope you continue to do so ^^

Chapter 2: A mother’s concerns

Ace, Sabo, and Luffy looked at their bags, making sure they had everything they needed, Dadan watched her boys pack their things with gloomy expressions, she didn’t want her boys to leave, more importantly she didn’t want them to give up their dreams of being pirates.

She understood where Garp was coming from, wanting to protect the boys, but still…didn’t he realized that by bringing them to the Marines he was basically leading the lambs to the slaughter?

Sure they promised him to not hurt the boys so long as they followed orders and stayed on the side of the Marines, but Luffy, Sabo, and Ace were meant for the sea. They were meant to rebel against society and to cause as much chaos and mischief as they could.

Garp probably did understand that and maybe that’s why he was sending them to Marinford so that they are somewhat protected and aren’t hunted down because of their blood.

While in the beginning she hated them, she slowly began to love them as a mother would. These boys lost everything and only had each other and her.

She realized how close she came to losing them when Sabo almost died, when she saw he was alive and well she thanked Shanks and begged for forgiveness from Ace, she slowly realized that Ace felt lonely because of his blood and her distain for him didn’t help.

After Ace forgave her the four became close, and when Shanks offered to take them she was reluctant but agreed, they were no longer safe here with Sabo’s parents trying to find him the next time could be worse.

Of course, that’s when Garp showed up and told her he was taken the boys with him.

“Dadan,” the bandit turned to see Garp looking at her, she couldn’t help but feel that Garp was hiding something from them. Something that he didn’t want anyone to know especially the boys. Of course, she was probably reaching, and it might be her motherly instincts trying to protect her boys and their dreams but still she couldn’t help but feel that there where holes in his stories.

Like how exactly did the Marines find out about Ace and his parentage? Also, the timing seemed off, them finding out about Ace being Gol D. Roger’s son around the same time Luffy found out about Shanks being his father as well as Shanks informing both her and Makino that he will be taking the boys with them.

It just seemed weird to her that once Shanks announced that he will be taking the boys away Garp comes out of the blue and telling them and the boys that the Marines found out the truth about Ace and that they would be spared if Ace joined them?

Something just didn’t seem right and while Dadan did want to question him she knew that if she did he would probably call her crazy or worse he’ll probably give her a fist of love and tell her to mind her own business.

Which now that she thinks about it when it comes to the safety of her boys…it is her business! Still she had to make sure that her boys were safe and that this wasn’t another ploy of Garp’s to get the boys to become Marines.

“What?”

“I want to thank you for all that you’ve done, and just know that whatever you need I would be happy to pay you back for everything you’ve done,”

She looked at him before she took a deep calming breath.

“Garp…I want to ask one thing and one thing only,”

“What’s that?”

“Will the boys be safe with you?”

Garp stared at his life long friend…the woman he bribed to take care of Ace and Luffy, she raised Ace and took care of Luffy and while Sabo wasn’t part of the deal she still took him and risked her life to save him all because he meant something to Ace and Luffy.

Taking a deep breath he looked at her, he knew she cared for them even if she acted like she didn’t, still he knew that if he told her the truth Dadan would take the boys and contact Shanks the minute she could.

She cared for them, hell she even supported their dreams of being pirates so he had to make sure that whatever he said next did not give her a hint that he was not only lying to the boys but to her as well.

“Yes, they will be safe. So long as they stay Marines and follow protocol then nothing bad will happen to them,”

The look that she was giving him made him feel a little unnerved, it was like she knew he was lying to her but she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if it meant ignoring everything inside her that was telling her to take the boys away and run as fast as she can.

Garp…owed her a lot…and holding out information from her was another thing he will have to owe her.

Dadan took a deep breath before she walked over to the boys and grabbed each of them by the scruff of their necks.

“You brats better behave got it?”

The three boys looked at the woman who took them in, fed them, and risked her life to save Sabo and them.

They owed her a lot…and if doing this little favor for her then they would do it.

“We will,” Sabo said.

“Whatever,” Ace grumbled.

“Okay,” Luffy said.

Dadan tried not to cry at seeing the boys’ disappointed expressions, she knew how badly they wanted to be pirates, sadly they had to give up their dreams.

Well Ace did, but she knew deep in her heart and soul that neither Sabo nor Luffy would be able to live with themselves if they had to fight Ace and harm him that doesn’t involve training.

She also knew that Ace would rather die then arrest his brothers or bring them any harm so if giving up their dreams meant protecting each other and saving one another from the heartache of bringing harm to one another they would gladly do it.

The bandit turned them around and wrapped them in her arms and held them as tight as she could.

“Watch over one another, protect each other,”

The boys didn’t say anything, they just held onto the woman who took care of them…the woman who became a mother to them.

“We will,” they said together.

Dadan then looked to Garp.

“Take care of them or else,”

Garp nodded his head and stepped outside letting the small family enjoy their moment.

After their good-byes the boys and Garp boarded his ship and set sail.

He turned to look at the boys who were torn between looking excited at being in the open sea or disappointed that they were at sea and headed towards becoming Marines and not following their dreams.

Garp decided that this was the perfect time to turn those frowns upside down by telling them some stories about his time as a Marine and maybe just maybe this will bring them some joy into becoming Marines.

“Okay brats gather around, I wanna tell you guys about my time as a Marine,”

“Aren’t you still one old man?”

Garp shook his head,

“I mean, when I was young,”

The three looked at each other before shrugging their shoulders not really caring if they were being honest.

Garp took it as a yes abd began to tell them tales of when he was younger and the dangers he faced.

If they were being honest Ace and Sabo were a tiny bit interested, okay maybe a lot but only because they like the idea of kicking someone’s ass, other than that they didn’t care about Marine life.

Luffy on the other hand,

“Sounds boring,”

Garp looked at his biological grandson.

“What? What do you mean boring? The life a Marine is much better than that of a pirate’s,”

“You always follow the rules, my dad said being a pirate means about being free and getting to do whatever you want,”

Garp took a deep breath and silently cursed Shanks for wanting to become a pirate.

“Luffy, being a law-abiding person is better than being a criminal,”

“What’s wrong with wanting to be free?”

Garp glared at his grandson.

“Being free is just a fancy term for people who want to do whatever they want and hurt whoever they want,”

“That’s not what my dad told me,”

“Did your dad also told you he’s one of the most dangerous pirates to sail the sea? And a celestial Dragon? Or that he used to be in Roger’s crew?”

Garp knew that if he brought up Roger that would set Ace off and mentioning that he was a celestial dragon would piss Sabo off since he hated nobles and celestial dragons.

Luffy loved his brothers and he would listen to them without hesitation at least he hoped that was true since Dadan mentioned how ever since Ace, Luffy, and Sabo met the three have balanced each other out in different ways.

And sure, enough he was right, Ace looked at Garp with eyes full of curiosity and anger.

“Shanks…was in Roger’s crew?”

“Shanks is a celestial dragon” Sabo asked.

“Yes, he’s dangerous and not someone to be taken lightly,”

Looking at Luffy he saw that his grandson was close to tears.

“No…my daddy isn’t a dangerous man…he’s just a pirate who wants to be free…”

“He’s killed innocent lives Luffy, that’s what pirates do, they kill and take and destroy lives, why do you think that your other father never send you to him? He didn’t trust him and was scared that you would get hurt with him,”

Another lie, Dragon didn’t tell Shanks about Luffy because Dragon didn’t want Shanks to know as well as give up his life of being a pirate, hell Dragon even admitted to Garp that if Garp didn’t take Luffy in then he would find Shanks and hand the brat over to him knowing full well that he would not hesitate to take him in and do whatever he can to protect Luffy.

Garp could see in Luffy’s eyes that he was trying to cling onto the image of Shanks that he had in his head, that he didn’t want to believe what his grandfather’s words and that Shanks wasn’t a celestial dragon, the very same people that tried to take Sabo away from him or that he killed innocent people but Luffy wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, and so long as he didn’t question nor asked why Shanks left the Celestial Dragons then Garp should be fine.

As for Ace and Sabo…mentioning that Shanks was once in Roger’s crew would surly piss off Ace and stop him from defending Shanks since the man saved Luffy from a sea king and if Ace was angry then Sabo’s protective side over Ace would take over, stopping him from asking the right questions.

These next few days Garp would have to play his cards very, very carefully if he wants the boys to give up their dreams of being pirates and become law abiding citizens.

He looked at Luffy who was trying hard not to cry but was losing the battle, Garp took him in his arms and allowed the boy to cry. He looked at Sabo and Ace who did not hesitate in joining the hug. Garp wrapped his arms around all three of them, silently asking for forgiveness for all the lies he was feeding them.

“Its to protect them, I need to do whatever I can to protect them…”

Somehow that was slowly getting harder to believe.

heyo ive decided its time for me to catch up on the one piece manga finally!! i last read it uhhh sometime late 2018?? MAYBE early 2019....anyways ill be liveblogging it, basically for myself but if anyone is interested then enjoy lol

so w.out further ado hers 927-931 hya 

uh ok i left off kinda in the middle of the wano arc, so im scanning thru some stuff to see what i remember.....i dont really remember what the deal is with that ginger (?) pompadour guy lmao. theres a lot of new characters and intricate politics in this arc from what i remember. 

i havent really gotten spoiled for anything....i know that something bad happens to kid & killer, somethins up w/sabo (but we dont know what), luffy fights kaido (more than once i think?) uhhhhh we get roger flashbacks and hear the yonkous bounties....thats abt all i really know. so im hype to find out what else has gone on....

im gonna start around 927, i defs read this but i want a refresher

Ahhhhh ok, I'll do these in 2 sections just so it's easier to read lol also I'll try not to ramble since it'll already be kinda long 😅

3. Does your s/i have a full backstory yet? Or is it still in the works? If it's done can we see it?:

Skylar's backstory is pretty much done (I'm constantly adding/subtracting/moving things around but the core of it stays the same). Basically she's a bisexual disaster whose girlfriend joined the marines as a way to earn some money for them to leave home (very domestic), but her ship was blown to pieces by a pirate crew and she's presumed dead. Meanwhile, Skylar's parents are pretty archaic in their thinking (they run a huge business empire, both legal and on the black market, and their goal has always been to keep it in the family), they're also violently homophobic (and don't believe people can be into more than one gender, so the fact Skylar was in love with a woman is her "choosing" a side in their minds), and there's the implication of a sorta conversion therapy kinda thing that happens in between her girlfriend leaving and the start of the actual story. The week before the story starts it's decided she's been "good" enough to allow some freedom once again, and one day when a certain yellow submarine pulls into the harbor, Skylar makes the snap decision to run away (she's dealt with emotional and physical abuse for a very large chunk of her life, so even though it's not a well thought out plan and could very likely get her killed, she'd rather try to leave than stay under their thumb). She does end up getting caught (of course) and convinces Law she's just an idiot (no bad intentions towards his crew) and he does agree to let her live, but even after getting to the next island she ends up right back on his sub and they bargain for her to work on the sub in exchange for room and board (she thinks it's because nobody else wants to cook, but part of Law's reasoning is she dropped a comment about the black market and "some guy named Joker" that her parents are always talking about, and while she doesn't know who Joker actually is or anything about it, Law's gears are spinning and he figures he can use her for information somehow in the future)

And then shenanigans 😂😂

4. How did your s/i feel when they first met your f/o(s)? How do they feel about them now?

She was terrified of him 😂😂 Skylar absolutely knew who's ship she was sneaking onto but she chose to do it anyway, and he threatened to remove her limbs the first night they met lol but she does grow to care for him pretty quickly. She's a very emotional person, which helps her read emotions in others a lot easier than most, so she can read him really well (which tbh terrifies him and pisses him off for a long time until he stops being a butt about his own feelings lol)

8. Does your s/i have any kind of powers?

Skylar has a so far unnamed devil fruit, but it's kind of a mixture of a few existing ones (i had already come up with hers before I saw them in canon so I tried to make it work so it wasn't the same lol) technically the ability is the ability to manipulate light particles (inspiration from marvel's Invisible Woman ✌). She mostly uses it to camouflage herself/turn invisible, but she eventually learns a sort of force field technique (like the hardened light bridges in portal 2) and that same technique can be used as a way to "fly" in some cases (but it's very draining so she doesn't use it often when she does learn it). She also ate the fruit totally on accident, thinking it was something else, and is really upset that she can't swim anymore, but can't deny it REALLY comes in handy lol

So when I said self-indulgent I meant it lmao she's Luffy's older sister (blood relative), older by 4 years (so older than Ace and Sabo by 1 year. She's the BIG sister lol). Most of her backstory follows the same as Luffy's, though she definitely caused less trouble. She also can't really remember their parents despite being 4 when he was born (it's not too farfetched, especially if they went to Foosha Village when they were that young), but she can remember snippets of Dragon's face, and a voice she thinks is her mother's if she tries hard enough. The biggest thing is that she can remember the first time she saw her baby brother, and how he seemed to be beaming at her even as a newborn, and her "older sibling" instinct immediately set in (the stronger Luffy gets the less he needs her to "protect" him, but she's always going to, and that extends to the other 2 as well later on). Unfortunately this does turn into a sort of maternal instinct for a while, and she has a kind of maturity complex, but after more adults join the crew and tell her "YOU ARE STILL A LITERAL CHILD GO HAVE FUN" she eventually chills out a little lol

Soooo I haven't actually decided who she'd end up with, if anyone, yet lol the thirsty part of me says Law, but I think she'd fit with Nami or even Zoro well too (and unfortunately I think she'd fit really well with Ace as well but that treads into iffy territory that I'm not sure how to navigate yet)

Either way: with Zoro she spends the whole first day with him on the crew apologizing for Luffy's antics (he no longer cares), she's honestly initially suspicious of Nami (nobody wants to hear it though), but now both girls are fiercely protective of each other, with Law he'd just finished patching her up after Marineford, she shouldn't even be moving around yet, and she pulls a knife on him that he better not try anything funny with Luffy (highkey overprotective since he's now her ONLY brother and on the brink of death), but after Luffy recovers she comes to respect him, and at Punk Hazard she's one of the first to trust him with the alliance (though he does make a few quips about her almost stabbing him, which she shrugs off).

She actually got into quite a few fist fights with Ace when they first met for "being mean to Luffy", but with everything that happens with those kids she comes to love him deeply and is devastated by his death (I kinda feel like if anything were to have happened between them it would've been while they were teenagers, mostly due to hormones but the feelings were still real, but they decided not to pursue it further and he left to become a pirate while she stuck around to wait for Luffy, so by the time they're adults it's no longer romantic love? Idk yet lol I started shipping them on accident and now I have to make it work without it being...yikes lol)

8.:

Hazel doesn't have any devil fruit powers, but she does have a robot leg (lost it in Enies Lobby, Franky hooked her up. Complete with knee-pistol and roller blade), and during the time skip she first learns some basic Fishman Karate from Jinbei before he goes back to Fishman Island, and then she trains with Hancock and the Kuja Pirates (which only happens as a favor to Luffy, and even then ONLY because she's his sister and therefore not a rival lmao)

Another great episode. I think the post-arc fatigue is wearing off.

In another case of Art Imitates Life, we have a tiny Sabo who loathes the privileged society of nobles within which he was raised. Must say that one of my favourite One Piece moments is when Luffy caved in Saint Charloss’ face, so I am all for Oda revisiting this theme.

I also liked the way Sabo’s social status was revealed in small, hinting increments. I didn’t realise what was going on until Sabo himself spelled it out.

The Dine and Dash

This was the first time I realised something was up with Sabo, though I couldn’t put my finger on what it was yet.

After the nice intro showing Luffy’s first attempts at his gomu gomu no pistol attack (awww...), world building began in earnest. If you travel north of Grey Terminal, you will hit a wall. Literally. There is a wall. This wall encloses the Goa Kingdom - a place with a strict immigration policy.

Have you ever wondered why Grey Terminal exists? It’s because the residents inside the wall dump their trash outside the entrance, leaving the cast-offs of society to fight over cast-off scraps. Lovely. 

The poor people of Grey Terminal are sometimes allowed inside to sell recycled items. This exception allowed Ace, Sabo and Luffy managed to sneak in.

Just beyond the gate, is Edge Town, where all the edgy types hang out. Ace, Sabo and Luffy easily dealt with a bunch of muggers. Those muggers knew their names, so our three favourite prospective pirates have obviously won a bit of local notoriety here. I can just picture the headlines: AREA KIDS OUT OF CONTROL. AREA KIDS CAUSE CROCODILE SHORTAGE. AREA KIDS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SOCIAL ILLS.

In the middle of town, there’s another wall. You’d need one to keep out all the Edge. This part of the kingdom is called High Town. There is not a scrap of garbage on the streets here. Apparently, Goa Kingdom is the most beautiful in East Blue. Now we know why. I’m guessing the photographers aren’t taken round Grey Terminal.

And High Town is where the nobles live.

I thought, good, good. Now things are interesting. Is Luffy going to punch out another entitled parasite and form the habit of a lifetime?

The kids sold the crocodile skin and decided to go for ramen. Sabo knew a place. It was a really fancy place. Disguised, they walked in. Sabo demanded a private dining room and flashed a gold locket/pocket watch engraved with a floral emblem. This had the staff fawning all over them. Ace said, “Wow, that thing sure comes in handy!” Sabo was uneasy, “Haha, yeah, I found it on the street one day.”

Being mischievous imps, they had about two hundred bowls of ramen between them, then dined and dashed by jumping out through a fourth floor window. xD

This is when I started thinking: wait... something is up here. 

If Sabo is hard-up, how does this kid know about private dining rooms? How did he know about that fancy restaurant. Why was he so sketchy about finding the locket? He robs people all the time. Why not proudly say you robbed a rich noble? 

But no. I justified it away as nothing. Sabo might have spied and seen nobles demand private rooms. He’d never tried ramen before. Maybe he had a pang of conscience about stealing the locket and said he found it instead.

Then, a random in the street seemed to recognise Sabo. I did not know who he was at the time, so I shall call him Sweaty Chins (due to his multiple chins and excessive perspiration).

“You’re alive!” Sweaty Chins exclaimed. “Let’s go home.”

“Um... that guy’s calling you,” Ace said.

Sabo seemed shaken, then said, “He confused me for someone else.”

They ran for it. One last shot of Sweaty Chins before the scene concluded was ambiguous. I wasn’t sure if he was happy or not to see Sabo.

As Ace is not dumb, he suspected something was amiss. Sabo didn’t want to tell, but Ace literally wrung the secret out of him.

“I’m the son of a noble,” Sabo said miserably.

“And?” Luffy and Ace chorused. (I laughed.)

Sabo explained both his parents were alive. He wasn’t an orphan and never grew up in Grey Terminal. Sweaty Chins was his father. He apologised for lying to Ace and Luffy. 

Luffy being Luffy, wanted to forgive him immediately. Ace being Ace was more cautious. “You should wait to hear the motive before you forgive.”

He wanted to know why Sabo was living out on the edge with them if he was from a noble family.

Sabo told his tale.

The flashback opened with a sinister shot of looming, overbearing, lecturing parents. “You need to acquire intelligence and knowledge you need to know as  a noble and become a man that can marry a woman from the royal family,” Mr Sweaty Chins said. “Then we’ll live in security and I’m sure that you will live happily,” Mrs Chins chipped in.

“Are you sure?” Sabo said, unconvinced.

“YEAH, OF COURSE!”

Later, Sweaty Chins received some bad news. An entire cargo ship was lost along with the goods he had invested in. He didn’t give a damn about the crew. The money was the main thing. Oh great, I thought. Sweaty Chins is another callous, noble piece of excrement.

Believe it or not, my opinion sunk even lower.

Little Sabo turned up at his study with a drawing he’d done of his dad. Sweaty Chins took out his anger on Sabo, ripped the drawing in half and said, “I’m exhausted from work. If you have time to draw, you should be studying.”

And little Sabo’s heart just shattered into a million pieces.

Then the popular theory about posh schools breeding psychos also cropped up (thank you, Oda!) As little Sabo walked to his expensive school, a bowl-cut fucknugget approached him. “I’m from the royal family,” he brayed. “I’m related to the king. Give me a piggyback to my house.”

Since Sabo has a backbone and pride, he was like, “Um... no,” and walked on. This did not go down well.

“Are you gonna ignore my royal order?”

And then the kid pulled a knife on him.

Yes. You heard right. This royal, parasitic sponge pulled a knife on Sabo (these nobles really will have to go. They are out of control).

And it gets worse. When Sabo beat up the kid in self-defence, *he* was punished for it! Mrs Chins rushed to the school. Not to aid her son. But to fawn over the poor, injured widdle royal. When Sabo tried to explain he almost got knifed, it earned him a ringing slap across the face.

And in that instant you see the hatred born in Sabo right there.

Fuck that noise, he thought. I am out of here.

And he went to party with the people of Grey Terminal, who had time for him and who told him cool stories of all the places they’d been to out on the open sea.

When his flashback ended, Sabo announced he would go out to sea one day no matter what and write a book about it.

Ace said: “I’m gonna become a pirate and defeat others and become infamous. It doesn’t matter if all the people in the world reject and despise me. I’ll become a great pirate and show them what I can do! I won’t run from anyone or lose to anyone. My name will be known all over!”

If they had shown this just before Ace died, it would have been tears time. ;_;

Sabo realised they had a problem. All of them wanted to be a captain. Ace got round this by stealing some sake from Dadan, and That Scene took place.

“Maybe we’ll set out independently,” he said. “When we become pirates, we might not be on the same ship. But our brotherhood will always be there. So from now on, we’re brothers!”

God, I hope Sabo isn’t dead. Maybe that’s why he fought so hard to save Ace, his last remaining brother.

I HAVE A THOUGHT

Okay I’m like, exhausted. Haven’t really slept in like, four days. I’m at the point where I just KNOW I’m tired but I just don’t FEEL tired and I’ve been thinkin. Hear me out, it’s probably impossible. I blame my tired brain.

Luffy's Gear Second speeds up his blood, which in turn speeds up his body, he's tecchnically moving at speeds faster than much of the world around him with no mental jetlag, and only few physical repercussions (it strainss his heart, I don't care if he's made of rubber, that shit is dangerous!!). But like, hear me out, I might just be really tired and coming up with stupid shit, but like, if Luffy Awakens his Devil Fruit, if at all possible for him, what if it's just like activating Gear Two.

But instead of just gaining a speed boost, ot allows him to go so fast he travels through time??? Or gains an ability akin to the Instant Transmission technique from Dragon Ball Z???

Really, logic does NOT apply to Luffy, at all. He has gone into situations that have the odds SO stacked against him it’s not funny, but usually comes out on top! He’s a favorite of Lady Luck, has almost died like… 15 times, was fucking TORTURED as a child by a nasty, rotten pirate who didn’t care what he did because obviouSLY THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS, was RESCUED from CERTAIN DEATH by his CHILL FOSTER DAD™(Shanks), has managed to turn ENEMIES into ALLIES, not once but like DOZENS of times, rose to infamy in like… threeeeeeish months, survived his abusive freak of a grandfather (I love Garp, I really do, but that is NOT how you show love, and that is NOT how you treat a child. HE NEARLY KILLED LUFFY OVER A DOZEN TIMES USING THE EXCUSE OF “Training him to be an upstanding marine”! If anything, I think that Garp made Luffy begin to doubt becoming a marine, thought about it with a simple “I’ll have to listen to commands, and it’s a robbery of freedom”, but wasn’t about to abandon the option, because he still loved his grandpa and wanted to make him proud. Shanks and his stories of his grand adventures as a pirate merely allowed Luffy to harbor and grow that doubt into a hard-as-diamond belief.), stopped the civil war in Alabasta because WOW VIVI IS DISTRESSED LET’S NOT, broke into Impel Down, got terribly poisoned, was given the option to be cured but the cure was ALMOST just as deadly as the poison itself, went through TERRIBLE pain, and came out VICTORIOUS, albeit in technical terms ten years older (not physically, he lost ten years doing that. In my standards, he aged up ten years in bodily health. It won’t catch up with him til later in his life though, I bet), and survived getting the flesh on his chest, his RUBBER FLESH (ugh, that must have been horrible to see, and smell), melted off because he had been lucky enough to have caught the interest of supernova-at-the-time, Trafalgar Law.

With all of that in our minds, I wouldn’t doubt that Lady Luck would grant his Awakened Devil Fruit the ability to travel through time, or basically teleport.

Because come on.

He’d literally be stretching time and space.

I admit, he’d, at first, almost do something stupid. With time travel, he’d go back and try to prevent so much bad shit that’d happened to him without thinking of the consequences, as always, and he would end up DRASTICALLY changing things.

For example: he would go back to prevent, let’s say, the events of Marineford. Whitebeard would still be alive, Ace would still be alive, so much DEATH would have been avoided, and Teach would target Luffy and his crew in an attempt to become shichibukai. The vile man had seen Luffy’s wanted poster and decided to target him, and then full out admitted this to Ace at Banaro, and Ace definitely was NOT going to have that! I memorized their conversation as evidence because people like to sass me with a classic “YOU HAVE NO PROOF!”:

“First, I’ll go to Water Seven from here to kill Strawhat Luffy and hand him over to the government!”

“Luffy…!? What did you say…!? ”

“Oh? You know him?”

“I won’t let you lay a finger on him. He’s my little brother! ”

Luffy preventing Ace from being taken to Impel Down in the first place, which means preventing Ace from continuing to hunt Teach by, maybe, telling Ace about the Yami Yami no Mi and it’s abilities, and, if he manages it because coME ON, he can’t to save his life, lie about how he knows this, which would either drive Ace back towards Whitebeard in an attempt to prepare for such a battle, maybe even train more, or wouldn’t prevent Ace’s action against Teach, but would cause him to take the fight MUCH more seriously from the get go with the newfound knowledge. Going with the latter route, Ace taking the fight seriously from the start, if Ace seems too powerful to Teach, he’d do everything in his ability to flee the battle, as the man has always been a coward, and was never a carrier of The Will of D, despite being Marshall D. Teach. I don’t doubt that Teach would somehow escape Ace’s fury and flee Banaro, deciding against his thought of turning in Ace instead of Strawhat. He would hide out with his crew, or what may be left, for a lil less than a month. Lay low. No destruction, no killing, nothing from the Blackbeard Pirates. They would fall off the grid. Ace, having lost the man’s trail, would either continue roaming for any leads, or retreat back towards Whitebeard with his newfound knowledge of the man’s abilities, because he has SOMETHING on the man now, and his crew should know.

Teach would then head towards Sabaody and Fishman Island to have a run in with the Strawhats. They wouldn’t win that battle, and Luffy, plus his crewmates if they knew, would then be given to the government, and, knowing Luffy’s heritage, they’d rush to execute him almost as fast as they had with Ace. The papers would be full of excitement over it.

“SON OF REVOLUTIONARY DRAGON TO BE EXECUTED IN A MONTH!” the paper would scream, alerting everyone Luffy had managed to save or befriend, in one way or another. Shanks, Dorry, Brogy, Whitebeard (if Ace found out and lost his shit. He would try to leave, to rescue his baby brother, who doesn’t deserve to be executed. He would be held back, kicking, screaming, and crying out that Luffy was his first light in the dark, that he needs to save his little, adorable brother, that he’d always hate himself more than he has if he lets Luffy die. I feel that it would hurt Whitebeard and the others on the ship to see someone who was usually smiling and cracking jokes and being a nasty little brat on some days, and just an all around JOY to be around, be so… lost, and broken, and just a WRECK. They’d go and help save Luffy, I think. Whitebeard knows the importance of family, knows that Luffy means the WORLD to Ace, who was so, so PROUD when Luffy’s first bounty came out, and any brother of Ace was a son of his, and no one would be executing one of his sons when he could do anything about it.), two Yonkos and two giants.

The marines had been dreading in the original timeline that Shanks would join in the fighting when he arrived 15 minutes late to the war with a latte, imagine their horror as Whitebeard and Shanks join forces to save a simple, small boy made of rubber, who's grin and energy touched the hearts of practically millions on both the East Blue and the Grand Line.

But, the whole thing would be a plot by the marines to draw out Dragon, to catch him trying to rescue his son. But, the Revolutionaries, they are one big WILD CARD! I haven’t gotten enough about Dragon himself to even begin to THINK that be would mobilize forces to save Luffy. But, he did rescue Luffy at Loguetown, remember that. I bet he would be so so PROUD of Luffy, who was causing the World Government so much CHAOS, doing just what he had been doing, but instead of planning, like Dragon, he just went and did it. And if anything, the sudden headline would spark SOMETHING in the amnesiac that is Sabo, a deep-seated terror that he doesn’t know the origins of, or maybe it would knock him into a wave of soul crushing horror as memories of a small, bright little boy came crashing into him like a tsunami, he would drop the paper in horror, he never knew that Dragon was Luffy’s FUCKING FATHER, he would rush to Dragon about it, and if the man would do nothing, Sabo would become enraged. What a horrible father, what a SNAKE! He would beg, plead, do anything to get this man to save his FUCKING SON! And if Dragon was going to act, he would assign Sabo and a select group to infiltrate Impel Down to save Luffy, only to have barely missed him, yet they would be able to break out Luffy’s crew, if they had been captured when trying to help Luffy. Anyone can elaborate on what happens after this, I’m moving on.

If Ace had retreated to Whitebeard instead of going to Banaro to confront Teach, the man would have, more than likely, destroyed Banaro and would make his way to Water Seven. I estimate that he’d make it there after the events of Enies Lobby, unaware of the dramatic uppage in bounty that would follow. Aqua Lagoona had just passed, he’d just miss the Strawhats leaving the large city, but he would see the newly built Thousand Sunny flying as quick as a bee out towards the ocean, and he would follow. They’d go through some bastardized game of cat and mouse, I doubt Teach would even TRY confronting the Strawhats so close to Thriller Bark. So he’d wait until the fog lifted, like an idiot, because he probably doesn’t know the fog won’t lift. But, and correct me if I’m wrong, the fog DOES lift after Moria is defeated. He follows Luffy to Sabaody, where he confronts the Strawhat crew, and from here I believe the events mentioned in the last path would come to pass.

That was an example of what his meddling with time could lead to. Robin, of course, would stop him from doing it. She understands the risks of time travel, she’s read many books after all. Not only would she warn him to never use his power unless it was his ONLY CHOICE, she’d have him PROMISE!! And Luffy never breaks a promise, at least, not to my knowledge. It would be a great way to reset if he loses too much. And that means if he loses his crew, and he doesn’t feel he can go on without them.

Honestly, I find Luffy’s Gears facinating. Gear Two is advanced speed, Gear Three is damage spread across a large distance, and Gear Four is a mix of both. Truly interesting, the things Luffy has come up with for attacks and abilities when it comes to his own body. Which is why I’m instantly appealed by a Luffy moving so fast that he stretches time and space to the point of time travel, or teleportation.

And honestly, I kinda wanna see what other people have to think about my lil (understatement) rant here.

Izo really loves theater, yeah? And Haruta. They used to put on productions of fairy tales in the living room and rope their siblings into being the cast, and Marco as the oldest ended up trying to direct/help/figure it all out for them, and he somehow just never got out of the habit? and they're in high school and yet he's still doing it and then we have Izo and Haruta as idk a real nice friendly casual ryan and sharpay?

and idk one of his other siblings, probably Thatch???? helps with the music sometimes and he's like, Marco, let's write a love story, and Marco is like nope, no thanks, let's stick to adventures like we do, kay? kay

Thatch is like, "noooooo we've never done a love story" "and I'm not gonna" "c'mon, izo would love it" "but it's a love story" "look we'll throw in pirates, too, okay?" "......" "you love pirates" "......no fair fine, okay"

and oh, it's the tale of roger and rouge

and usually he writes the roles for Izo and Haruta, yeah? with them in mind, which is kinda unfair because they're the stars of the theater dept now because of course they are, and they're amazing, of course, but it's hard for anyone else to compete when the main roles are literally written for them, you know? Only it's love story, and it's hard for Marco to wrap his head around for them, and he starts to drift, starts to go back to the fairy tales, starts to do typical prince/princess stuff.

Only, the princess is boring, so let her snark.

The prince is too perfect, so make him fail.

And somewhere along the line, he starts writing for himself, because he can only write what he knows. The princess becomes a pirate, Rouge, queen of the seas, embodiment of freedom, all sly smiles and snark and slippery, stealing and singing and leading a merry chase, and the poor guy, Roger, chases after her through a series of pratfalls, setting out to be pirate king and blinded by the stars she put in his eyes, and it's ever so fun, with quick teasing songs and a lot of playful exchanges and this one lovely slow duet on a beach in the moonlight

meanwhile, in the background, Ace and Sabo meet at, idk, karaoke. Because Luffy. Nah, wait, that's too au, hang on, we can fix this

they attended the same elementary school. Ace and Sabo were bestest friends and he ran away to their house all the time because his parents were never home  so they didn't know, only one day they had to move and took Sabo with them

...he tried to run away and got hit by a car?

Ace heard, thought he was dead, but he was just in a coma for a while? forgot stuff? and his parents didn't notice because it's not like they've been around anyway?

So Sabo turns inward and studies, because college is the closest escape he can manage, and he's gonna get a full ride and not rely on his parents for anything. He's gonna disappear and be independent if it kills him

MEANWHILE Ace likes Disney movies and reading, but his Grandpa wants him to join the military???? he doesn't want to, but Garp is like "ROTC or gtfo" so Ace compromises with sports, because still teams and activities

so he has to sports team, and boom, we get crouching jock hidden nerd, and he lowkey hates it, but it's life, whatever, and if he doesn't want it, well, there's nothing he wants more, so might as well, right?

Until. Until.

So Sabo has this grades thing down, right, but if his parents move him one more time, he's gonna have to start working his way up to valedictorian again, he hasn't got time for this. He needs something to look hella good on college applications, and it needs to keep him out of the house but not take up valuable time and not sports, ugh, teamwork? no thanks, and nothing that requires anything academic, so it's band or theater, really.

He goes theater, maybe he can be like a lighting technician and study in the booth or something, or learn a practical skill like makeup to hide scars; overall a lot more practical than music. So he joins drama and doesn't think twice about actually auditioning.

And that's all well and good except he leaves the library one day to go to drama club and he passes Ace in the hall and Ace doubletakes so hard he almost falls over. It can't be Sabo, it can't--but it looks like him, he walks the same, maybe--maybe???? so screw practice, he follows Sabo to the theater, where tryouts are happening today because plot convenience

"Sabo," he says, and the guy turns around. Same eyes, same face, same suspicious paranoia, same bags under his eyes, same stubborn frown--how could it be anyone else? "Sabo," he says, reaching out, and the guy steps back. "Do I know you?" he says, and Ace goes cold

And he walks away, so Ace chases him all the way to the theater. He gets into a shouting match with has-to-be-Sabo right in the middle on the auditorium, and the theater teacher sighs and says, "if you have something to say, come up here and say it. Obviously you're dramatic enough for the drama club."

Ace storms on stage and yells at Sabo and Sabo yells right back and falls into taunts as naturally as blinking, and it's so easy, and he knows just what to say to get Ace to go red and splutter and chase him, and he also knows the stage and the area because it's his domain, and he bounces around as Ace chases him, yelling at him to come back, and Sabo just taunts and like, hangs over the rail of the fake pirate ship, and Ace throws up his hands and stomps around and says things like, "Why did I even miss you?!" and "I can't believe you forgot!" and "Luffy! Remember Luffy????" and actually--actually Sabo does

Sabo goes soft and says, "Luffy?" and Ace folds his arms and says, "Luffy," and Sabo sinks down to sit, resting his head on the railing as everything falls into place behind his thought, and Ace stands there, looking up, his heart in his eyes, and the teacher yells "Scene!" and Marco stands up from the front row and says, "it's them or I walk."

and of course the problem is that Marco wrote himself a love story, and as Sabo tilts his head and smirks sideways and says the words Marco wrote, of course he'd start to fall in love, because that's what he wrote it for. And every time Ace laughs and gets back up, every time Ace has a passionate, poetic speech, well of course the words cut Marco to the heart because that's what he wrote it for.

And the fact that they work so well on stage is only compounded by their chemistry offstage, where Sabo will drape himself across Ace's back to read the script over his shoulder and Ace will run fingers through Sabo's hair and murmur in his ear on days when the eye-bags are particularly deep. Sabo won't talk about his scars but Ace can touch them, press his hand right up to them, and Sabo will just sigh and go limp. No one's allows to mention Ace's tattoo, but Sabo's allowed to trace the letters with careful fingers. For two high school guys who met a few weeks ago, they're amazingly close, and Marco can only watch it all happen and tell himself that it's good that they're like this. It'll make the play better. It's a love story; that's what he wrote it for, and he never once expected to want it to be his.

And, see, Sabo owes Ace his sanity and Ace owes Sabo his personality, but they both owe Marco for each other and neither one is ever gonna forget that

And Ace goes to Marco to try to "get to know his character" and Sabo goes to Marco to ask if this line needs more vibralto or perhaps this harmony is just--like, could we do it like this? and Thatch is in the background making these awful faces at Marco behind their backs and Marco is Ignoring Him Entirely

Leafy: Sabo being the highish classed boy that he is he may have learned the piano and one day, he could be sitting in the theatre room, his hands lazily playing some sort of ballad, his fingers just glide on the keyboard but like unbeknowest to him, Marco had snuck in because its free period for him too, to like practice some chorus lines for the play and the way that Sabo plays with his serene expression, just looking like he belongs and the way he makes the piano sing, it makes him want to be a part of that, he is captvated and wants to join but?? is he allowed? The pull of the music is too strong tho and before either of them know it, he's there too, his fingers also on the piano now, the little song becoming something more as it turns into a little duet and sabo is startled at first but also?? he has a high respect for Marco and his skills at the piano so its like an honor and all and he loves the sound they create together?? so maybe we?? can like keep doing this if you want, just play

and oh we could probably get a scene in there where Sabo keeps "messing up" in the moonlight duet and Marco sighs and is like, no, like this, and he has to step in to show them and he only meant to do the phrase but somehow he ends up singing the whole love duet with Ace while Sabo watches his every move--for the good of the play, of course.

And Ace just can't seem to get this one bit of choreography right, where he is supposed to pick "rouge" up off the deck and spin her around and into an underarm twirl and Sabo is like, "drop me again and I'll scream, Marco, come show him how it's done" and Sabo is really light on his feet and so responsive it's a pleasure to work with him and he ends up going through the whole number, with Sabo beaming in his arms and Ace's eyes heavy on his shoulders, because he really does have to learn this, you know???

sabo being like, "I can do this backwards in a princess dress and heels, Ace, c'mon" because Sabo probably had dancing lessons. Ace learned to fight from Garp

Everything is happy until a fight, teach, idk, something goes down and the school calls their guardians

Leafy:  they're both like "why are you doing this? what is a play going to do for you? study and get into whatever college" while Garp is like "are you slacking on me, if you cant abandon this silly excuse of a curricular activity then what about military school?"

Leafy: so then Marco has to make things right somehow, like not entirely for the sake of the play but also for like them!! because?? he was so used to being around them and now that they are no longer there he misses them and also, like his two best friends boyfriends are miserable and not in the play together and ?? can we not do all three things? so marco recruits his siblings who happen to be in whatever sport ace is in and sabo's science lab, together they are able to help them keep up with practice/work and the play??

And then the play happens and Luffy drags his cross-clique group to go see it and all the Whitebeard siblings and basically everyone and instead of being about breaking down barriers and stuff it’s a cute little love story about defying your parents’ expectations/being yourself????

idk I’m sure there are ~Morals~ but I dunno what they are

and it ends with mas all happy and Thatch being like, “See? See? I told you a love story was a good idea!”

ANYWAY FUN TIME HEADCANONS BELOW THE CUT BC I CAN’T THINK OF FIC.

Sabo as the Coulson equivalent (SHIELD spy) and Ace as Widow and Marco is Hawkeye

Marco grew up in the Whitebeard circus and they were super close and really good and supported each other and were a b i t out there, just like performing people are wont to be, but they also….lived a good hundred years ago.

And Marco….just kept living. As his family started dying around him, as the years passed and he just stayed-

Marco can get hurt and has the scars to prove it, but he….he can’t die by anything like old age or sickness, and so he just keeps living. Keeps living as the circus starts to wither into obscurity, keeps living as the last traces of his family vanish like pieces of sand, keeps living and gaining skills and getting stronger and smarter but he can’t ever forget the feeling of watching his family die.  

He was a freelance head hunter/bounty hunter before SHIELD picked him up, and was bored and didn’t know what else to do, so just sighed and agreed to join them. They have a better pay rate, at least, and the healthcare is a nice bonus 

Sabo and Ace used to know each other as kids!! 

But Sabo forgot ;n; Sabo vanished and then Ace was found sneaking out of the facility that was training him and kept under better security. But one of Ace’s missions takes him to Luffy and he doesn’t look back. Grabs the kid he used to call brother and runs. 

And Sabo was the one who brought in Marco and got sent to tail Ace and see if they could convince him to join, because they were close in age, and Ace had killed almost everyone else who’d come after him and Luffy, but then this was Sabo, and he-

He hesitates (he’s never hesitated, before, in his line of work you can’t but this was-)

Ace being so cautious and quiet at first bc they bought in him and Luffy and Ace was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop, for them to threaten Luffy to make Ace do something, but that just-

it doesn’t happen. 

It ends up making him Really Jumpy and Fidgety all the time until Marco starts Super Casually refusing orders and giving Ace outs and the ability to choose without any sort of punishments threatening him and letting Ace adjust to SHIELD at his own rate. 

Sabo has retrograde amnesia, and everything close to the explosion the red room (Ace’s institute) organised to kill him is basically gone, but he does have a few scattered memories of Luffy and some bits of Ace that are super blurred. They come back a bit, but that’s mainly because Luffy + Ace fill in the parts he’s missing

Sabo talks Ace through a lot of missions and Marco gets jealous (and denies it ofc, he doesn’t get jealous he’s an adult)

And he ends up casually bringing it up in conversation with Sabo and Sabo gets really startled because he didn’t think anyone had noticed, and then goes really quiet

“Ace- never had anyone on the comms. When he did- missions, before- no-one was there, helping him. I dunno, I guess I just- I just want him to know I’m there. That I won’t leave him to do it alone.”

And everyone thinks sabo will do a bad job because he’s so young, right? But he’s so tactical, he fights so hard to learn because he won’t ever let anyone else die under his command, he won’t let them get hurt, he’s lost people before because he was overconfident and arrogant and rude and he just wants to prove himself!!!

ALSO LOOK I KNOW IT’S A WEIRD SHIP BUT COBY IS CAPTAIN AMERICA AND I WAS THINKING ABOUT SABO AS COULSON WITH HIS Big Gay Crush AND IT’S KIND OF SUPER FUCKING ADORABLE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT BECAUSE COBY IS JUST SO NOBLE AND HEROIC AND KIND AND SABO’S IN THE BACKGROUND LIKE DYING AND ALSO LIKE “ACE, MARCO, IF YOU TRY AND SET ME UP WITH HIM ONE MORE TIME I AM GOING TO KILL YOU BOTH. I DON’T CARE HOW HIGHLY TRAINED YOU ARE, I’M GOING TO SLAUGHTER YOU.”

But Sab!!!!!!!! Also gets SUPER FUCKING FLUSTERED around Coby, because Coby was basically the original fucking revolutionary

Ace Totally huffs about it and fidgets a lot and is baaaaaaaasically a little envious of all the attention Sabo gives Coby by accident, but they eventually get over that when they’re dealing w/ Ace’s issues w/ self-confidence and it basically turns into the biggest running joke, and !!! Ace befriends Coby because COBY IS SO USELESS AROUND LUFFY!!!! AND ACE THINKS IT’S HILARIOUS!!! BECAUSE LUFFY IS OBLIVIOUS AS FUCK!!! 

MARCO GETS CONTROLLED BY LOKI

and his one rule, his one stipend to working with SHIELD is that he will never ever shoot someone with his bow and he requests missions where killing is avoided at all costs or if unavoidable than only against those of the worst calibre/situations of extreme danger, and Loki makes him break that

Robin (Director Fury) questions Marco’s loyalty for a moment when Marco turns on them and Sabo grabs the table so hard that it almost breaks in his hands and Ace doesn’t even say a word, just leaves. Koala has to quietly explain to her about Marco’s code, and how he’d never do this unless influenced by something else. 

Ace who loves the fact that Marco chose that. Marco chose to never kill, and SHIELD respects that, and Ace knows he doesn’t ever have to be forced to kill - to hurt - ever again. 

Ace talking to Loki to try and find out his plan / where Marco is and Loki only smiles and promises that Ace will find out where Marco is when Marco shoots him through the throat-

And Ace can’t help the fraction of a second where fear almost overwhelms him, because that-

That’s one of his greatest fears. 

That Marco is going to realise how awful Ace is, and  get rid of him. Clear out the mistake he made. 

Ace hiding the fear he feels because he’s been trained and he knows how to do this, he has to figure out what Loki’s plan (he has to save Marco. He has to prove that he was worth it)

ACE LOVING MARCO SO MUCH BUT REFUSING TO SAY IT????? NOT EVEN REALLY REALISING WHAT HE FEELS IS LOVE BUT KNOWING HE’D LAY DOWN EVERYTHING FOR MARCO, IF MARCO NEEDED IT. IF MARCO ASKED IT OF HIM.

When they’re fighting, when Marco’s still under Loki’s control, Marco just whispers so carefully, so pleadingly, for Ace to stop and he almost does because this is Marco-

And then the to-vibrant blue of Marco’s usually dark eyes gives him away and Ace knocks him out and has to swallow the nausea that caused him

(And least Marco will be okay, he thinks, but can’t drive away the thought of Marco’s pleading expression, Marco begging him to stop)

Ace refusing to say that he loves either Sabo or Marco because he’s just- 

He doesn’t think he is in love with them, Love is bright and vibrant and fluttery, messy, nervous feelings, he just feels-

Comfortable. Around them he just feels comfortable 

(That’s not love, right? That’s not-)

and look okay you know what isn’t a good time???

Ace regretting that he’d never told Sabo how important he was, never telling Sabo how much he meant, and when they get a spare moment he pulls Marco aside and tells Marco that he loves the fuck out of him and Marco’s his best friend and he’d basically do anything??? for Marco???

And it helps Marco as well because he’s suffering some serious trauma from being forced to fucking kill people when he didn’t want to, from being forced to kill innocent men and women who were trying to protect others, from having to fight and manipulate Ace……

whispers marco and ace not. doing anything abt ace’s confession, tho. it’s there, and they both know it, but Marco wants to get better first, and Ace wants time to mourn the fact that for the second time in his life he’s lost his best friend.

And theyre toooootally not dating

even though they move all of marco’s stuff into ace’s room. and have date nights. and marco presses kisses to ace’s forehead whenever ace leans on him (which is often). and ace curls up into marco’s side when they’re sitting on the couch. and they defs don’t hold hands, or press quick kisses to each other’s cheeks just before one of them has to leave on a mission without the other

And then just when they think everything is going back to normal, when there’s been two years of dealing with grief and pain and growing closer and supporting each other even more intimately than before-

Ace thinks he sees Sabo. For a fraction of a second, on one of their missions, and he barely believes that it is him-

But there’s a moment of surprise and regret on the stranger’s face, and Ace knows it’s him.

SHIELD fixed Sabo with some of Captain America/Coby’s blood and he’s alive but he’s different now. He’s stronger and faster and he just-

notices things. 

Notices how Marco’s fingertips linger on Ace’s hand but Ace doesn’t act like anything is out of the ordinary. Notices how Marco looks like he’s about to kiss Ace before a mission but aborts it at the last second and hides his promise to return in the crook of Ace’s neck. 

Sabo who goes on solo missions because no-one thinks he’s alive and he’s highly-trained and now he’s got super soldier serum in his veins…But he’s there the moment they need him but he’s unable to look at marco and ace 

Looking at how close they are and just realising what he’s missed. Quietly letting them he supported them and cared about them and was sorry in as many ways as he could - through cards, through care, through always having their backs, through trying constantly to protect them, because he could now, in real life instead of just directing them while he sat behind a computer screen.

Ace gets confused by language metaphors sometimes!!! But he won’t say it because he hates being seen as weak, or that anything needs to be explained to him. He has to be perfect and in control and mysterious all the time, no-one can know that puns confuse him. 

(Sabo+Marco totally figure it out and always casually explain the joke/idiom so that Ace isn’t left out of the loop, and even when he figures out they’re doing it he can’t ask them to stop.)

They both know how much he hates feeling/looking weak or stupid, and they do!!! everything they can to make sure he doesn’t feel like that,,,,,,,,,,
