September 7, 2017 Thursday I woke up at 6:30, can you believe it?! All on my own, thanks to jetlag. Heide did too. We lounged around for a bit, then got dressed for breakfast. Breakfast and dinner are included with our Groupon, both buffet style. We went to the same dining room as dinner the night before, and I had a really good meal! The Maldives don’t have pork products here, well at least the main dining areas. I think the restaurants that cost extra money are allowed to include it? The Maldives are a strictly Muslim country, so pork is technically not allowed. Heide and I packed way more conservatively since we were going to two Muslim countries compared to how we normally would dress in a hot climate. Anyways, after a yummy breakfast we walked around the resort. We headed out to the water villas and they looked so great! There are two restaurants with the water villas. We stopped for some pictures and a man cleaning one of the largest suites asked us if we wanted to come inside and check it out! Wow, it was so nice. The bed was the buggiest I’ve ever seen and the best part was an infinity pool outside. It was dreamy! It was getting pretty hot out, too, so we decided to hit the beach! We went back to our room on the beach (sadly no water villas for us, though even the “cheap” ones looked so nice!) to change. We grabbed some lounge chairs and brought them down to the waterfront. Heide and I checked out the surprisingly cold Indian Ocean (!!! My first time experiencing it!) and spend the day on the beach. I read some National Geographic and we took some pictures and laid out in the hot sun. Did I mention it’s soooo humid here?! We walked around the beach to the other side of the island, and it was so windy! After a bit we hanged and headed back to the lagoon area, where the water villas are. We met this really nice woman, Oksana, from Canada, but living in London. She (and a ton of other people) are with for the 70th World Health Organization meeting for South East Asia. This is the off season, so there aren’t a ton of guests here besides the 200ish from the WHO. We walked around the lagoon with her and helped her take some photos, then parted ways. Heide and I were hungry for lunch, so we tried the Japanese restaurant this time. Of course we had great service! After our meal the chef gave us some little desserts and talked to us a bit about where we’re are from and him too (Singapore!). Heide read out by the pool for a bit while I went to the room and showered and got ready for our dolphin sunset cruise! The cruise was so fun! We left at 5 on a boat with only five other guests. We saw some dolphins almost immediately out of our island reef! We spent an hour cruising around with them, while they swam next to the boat and jumped and spun for us! Honestly, we probably saw around 50 dolphins?! It was really magical. From the dolphin cruise we hopped on a little buggy (golf cart) to the fancy restaurant on the lagoon. They feed sharks there every night at 6:30! We met two girls traveling together (thank goodness! Everyone here is a couple with a few families mixed in, and of course, the conference). The girls are from the Netherlands, Syntiche and Smita. They are 34 and have been friends since they were seven! We watched the sharks get fed (maybe they are nurse sharks? Anyways they are the size of really large fish, like tuna?) and then the four of us walked down the the other side of the island to watch the manta rays get fed at 7! It started a sudden downpour when we were waiting to feed the rays! We had to run inside and on the way Heide fell really hard in the sand, but she’s okay. We waited out the rain, then Heide and I headed to dinner. We had a good meal with great service and then headed back to our room. It had been a packed day without any naps, so we fell asleep super easily! :]
