Talking Points | Leicester City 3 - 1 Liverpool FC
‘Human’ Jurgen Klopp Makes Multiple Errors |
Jurgen Klopp is not the messiah and as shown by this fixture he is most certainly not immune from making errors. With Jordan Henderson injured and out Emre Can was really the only choice to slot in at defensive midfield but leaving Lucas Leiva at centre back against one of the fastest strikers in the league was a disastrous error of judgement.
The Brazilian was skinned by Vardy on multiple occasions and with the Reds persisting in utilising a high line it was all too easy for Leicester’s main goal scorer. While left exposed by a lack of cover from both Can and Milner, Lucas positionally woeful for much of the game and seemed completely unaware of Vardy’s presence far too often.
Reds Becoming Too Predictable |
For me, this is simply down to another error of judgement from Klopp. Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville hit the nail on the head on Monday Night Football when they stressed that Liverpool have to learn to win dirty. I’ve personally been screaming about it for weeks and this was just another example of a game that the Reds should’ve just shown up to, looked to sit in, counter attacked with the pace and skill of the front three and hit Leicester on the break. Instead, they went for the usual all-guns-blazing style that has failed them in recent weeks and played right into the reigning champions hands. Klopp doesn’t often get his tactics entirely wrong but he was dreadfully misinformed if he thought this was the best way to get at Leicester.
Jordan Henderson a Huge Miss |
While Lucas will be the stand-in that gets much of the criticism, it’s hard to ignore just how much of a miss Jordan Henderson is when he doesn’t play. The Englishman’s passing range, pendulum like ability to keep possession ticking over and intelligence off the ball were all entirely absent as Emre Can continued to charge around like a bull in a China shop for much of the 90 minutes. The German’s lack of athleticism is becoming a huge issue for the Reds in the centre of the park while his inability to set the tempo of games in the same way Henderson does is a massive hinderance to the Reds. Improved in the second period as he shifted to centre back but one feels there may truly end up being no contract extension for him this Summer.
Coutinho Gets a Goal but Attack Ultimately Falters |
Roberto Firmino once again proved why the Reds need a true number 9, Coutinho showed glimpses of his usual self without being able to find his top gear and Mane faded in and out of the game every 5 minutes or so. Add to this how bewildered and lost Wijnaldum and Lallana looked in midfield and you probably get one of our most disjointed attacking displays I’ve ever seen. In fact, you know it’s bad when your number 9 doesn’t even register a single effort on goal. At least Coutinho got a consolation to hopefully boost his personal confidence levels.
Europa League Next Season? |
With the Reds dropping more points to relegation candidates, they look destined to finish outside the top four this season. Of course, certain rivals still have other competitions to play in but with the form of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs and to a lesser extent Arsenal of late, it’s going to be a very uphill struggle to finish in the Champions League places for the Reds now. Will be a huge shame if we do end up 5th, 6th or even 7th as I don’t really like the Europa League.

With Emil Forsberg being linked with LFC, I'd like to remind us of the last Swede that played for us, Glenn Hysén! via /r/LiverpoolFC
With Emil Forsberg being linked with LFC, I'd like to remind us of the last Swede that played for us, Glenn Hysén!
As a Swede, I am very excited that Emil Forsberg is being linked with us and I do believe it could really work out. Also yes, my feelings have been torn since Zlatan, our real King, went to the Scums.
But that's a different story, today I want to write about the only Swedish player to play for Liverpool FC - Glenn Hysén. But not so much about his time at Merseyside, more about him as a person and a true profile here in the North.
Here's some background for those who are unaware: Glenn was contacted personally by Alex Ferguson, twice. In 1987 and 1989. Everything was looking to go according to Whiskey Nose's plans but he missed a signature from Glenn. Glenn says that someone at United fucked up the negotiations with Fiorentina (where he was playing at the time) so it never happened. Instead, King Kenny came in and swooped Glenn right under their noses.
Glenn came to Liverpool in 1989, Hysén was "Man of the Match" on his Liverpool debut in the 1989 Charity Shield against Arsenal at Wembley, he won the League in his first season. Sadly there was not more for good ol' Glenn as Graeme Souness replaced Kenny Dalglish in the spring of 1991, and Glenn went back home to Sweden.
Glenn was a part of the incredible IFK Gothenburg team that in an unbelievable way won the UEFA Cup in the 80's, not once.. but twice! Other clubs that Glenn has played for are PSV Eindhoven, Fiorentina and IFK Gothenburg local rivals GAIS Gothenburg.
Glenn is best known in Europe (I think) for his amazing game against England at Wembley in the 1988 WC qualifiers. Sweden were not great offensively against a MUCH better England squad, but we had Glenn!. He got a 6/5 rating (yes you read that right) by the press in Sweden for that game. The match ended 0-0 and yes probably only thanks to Hysén.
But enough of his playing career, now I want to highlight what really makes Glenn the profile he still is today.
He often, and gladly, speaks about Liverpool as a club and a city. Only after three years with the Reds he loves the club more than anything else, he always tweets during match day and not with boring typical "Come on Liverpool, #YNWA" but more like "YABADABADOOO LIVERPOOOOOOOL, WHAT A DAMN GOAL, LIFE IS GREAT! #YNWA"
In 2007, Glenn spoke at the Stockholm Gay Pride Parade which seemed to many strange and angered some, why?
In 2000, Glenn was at a public bathroom at Frankfurt Airport when a man touched his Golden Balls and responded with beating the living shit out of the offender, he states himself that the offender flew backwards into a wall, breaking it. When a reporter asked if he regretted his actions he said, and I quote
Fuck no, well maybe if he died
This angered some and some people said the offender was a homosexual man who was coming onto Glenn, making the gay community triggered in Sweden.
Back to Stockholm Gay Pride Parade 2007 where Glenn spoke, he had a speech about how hard it is for homosexuals to 'come out' in the world of football. Not known to the public then, but a few years later his son Anton came out as maybe the first openly homosexual footballer in Europe
Nowadays though Glenn is most known for his Twitter account and a seriously dank column at Gothenburg's biggest newspaper every week.
Apart from the usual Liverpool tweets he always ends every tweet with the same sentence: Ha d gott. Glenn. Which translates to something like: Have it nice. Glenn.. He is the father of dad jokes and often tweets out random, bad jokes (which Gothenburg is kinda known for). And then we have his best tweet which reads:
Tittar på ett program på NATIONAL GEO[G]RAFIC, om konsentrationsläger. Hitler. Fy fan va fittigt, d e röva. Ha d gott. Glenn.
Which in English is something like:
Watching a show on NATIONAL GEO[G]RAFIC, about concentration camps. Hitler. Damn that's cuntish, that's ass. Have it nice. Glenn.
His column is where you really find the gold, with classics like
Christmas songs makes me vomit, but I like some of them.
My Top 10 favorite beers.
Ten tips to live a good life. (One tip is to lay in the couch with a bucket of milk with ice in it, no I'm not joking)
Glenn also enjoys watching and writing about movies. His favorite movie of all time is Silence of the Lambs and he wrote in his column that
1 "Silence of the Lambs". You have to see it. In this movie they chop of each others arms and legs are the blood is squirting, that's not so much fun.
In late 2016 it came out that someone else was writing his columns for him and it became national news (because Sweden is a fucking obnoxious PC country). Glenn confirmed this on live television the same day and stated
I decide what I want to talk about. I have a guy writing it for me after I speak with him because if I would write it, it would take over 3 weeks. I'm so fucking bad with technology. Then they call me and read out the column for me and I say YES or NO!
These are things that make Glenn Hysén a fucking boss. He will always be the reason I chose to support the Reds and I'm forever grateful. I did some research writing this, but mostly it's thing on top of my head. There are hundreds of stories but I think I've gone on long enough for one day, maybe I'll write more if it's appreciated.
All in all, Emil Forsberg may be the first Swede to play for Liverpool FC since we won the First Division. Forsberg is certainly not as fun as Glenn was and still is, but maybe, just maybe he will become a player to be remembered.
Thank you.

“The homecoming was unbelievable,” says Kennedy, who went on to score the winning penalty in Liverpool’s 1984 European Cup shootout triumph over AS Roma in Rome. “There was red and blue everywhere because the Everton fans came out to support us too.
“We were hanging off the bus and we had a bit of drink but we didn’t mind because we’d finished the season. It was time to enjoy ourselves.”
