Cosmere update???
alright yā€™all might remember that at some point this year i read stormlight archive and when i tried to understand Hoid better I got into Cosmere(I made one post abt it so I donā€™t expect anyone to remember it lmao! Also pls ignore that post it was more self deprecating than I would like!)Ā
Anyway, I am finally done with reading all the books and I am slowly making my way through coppermind and wobs and thereā€™s so much here!!!!!!!!!
I read everything in the wrong order and I knew nothing about Adonalsium or the shards for the entirety of my stormlight read so I made some very wrong assumptions lmao. Iā€™m gonna put everything here cause I feel like it and I also know no one else whoā€™s read the books to discuss this with.
(Disclaimer:Itā€™s 1 am and Iā€™m amped up on painkillers and I know very little compared to all the overwhelming data in this fandom. I didnā€™t even know what RAFO or WOB meant until day before yesterday.)
The rest of the garbage is under the cut.
Sel:
I could not find an answer to this anywhere? So hopefully someone here knows? Whose voice talked to Raoden in the perpendicularity when he went Hoed??? Was it devotion or like a shadow/splinter???
Are people from Ire the same generation as Elantris era?Ā
Is there a connection between Iri and Ire??? I actually mistook Ire for Iri in secret history and got confused for a bit lmao.
Nalthis:
What happens if someone from Nalthis gives their breath to someone from other planets? No one can take breath but you can just give it? Will it stick just as well???
I did not Vasher or Vienna when I read SA and I didnā€™t make the connection after I read warbreaker either. That was a big coppermind surprise. I need to reread sa so forgive me if I make mistakes.
Iā€™m guessing Lightsong saw the sequel in the painting but is it possible for him to see Roshar?Ā
We know Nightblood sucks in investiture(?) it seems easier on Nalthis or Roshar but how would that work on Scadrial or Sel or Threnody or Taldain??? Will it just eat the mists? Turn the sand black? Hurt the shades?Ā
Can Nightblood be used in hemalurgy as a spike? What metal is it made of? Does the type of the metal affect the way breath sticks to it(other than aluminium)? Where does the investiture go?Ā
Can you bring the dead back by giving them Returned breath? (Not as a lifeless) Also can one Returned give breath to another Returned dead to bring them back? Can dead Returned be turned into lifeless??? Can a Returnedā€™s breath be stolen using hemalurgy? How would hemalurgy even work on breath?
What will Hoid do if he ever gets his hands on Nightblood?
Scadrial:
Did Hoid use a lifeless to paddle through the preservationā€™s perpendicularity in Secret History? It looked like he awakened something???
Did Kelsier pin his cognitive shadow to a body? Whose body did he use? Is he using single spike to keep Harmony out? Is he now like a Returned? Is he still mistborn?
Is Ironeyes a fullborn now?
Can nicrosil store all types of investiture? Can Scadrians use the bands to access other investitures?
Can we alloy godmetals? Like Lersium and Atium make Ettmetal??? But what if we combine Lerasium with some other godmetal? Like honorblades(those are honorā€™s body right?)?Ā
Can someone ascend by burning a lot of Atium or Lerasium?Ā
Can Kandra burn Lerasium? Will they become mistborn if they do? What about mistwraiths?
What happens if Koloss burn Lerasium?
Is it weird that when I read Ettmetal canā€™t be burnt cause it explodes with water, I thought ā€˜ooh sandlings can eat it then!ā€™?
First of the sun:
I really really want a book on this planet!!!!Ā
Whose perpendicularity is on First of the sun??? I can only think of Odium tbh. He can see the future. He can get into peopleā€™s head(a bit like ruin but we know where ruin is???). Do we know where Odiumā€™s perpendicularity is? Is it on Braize or Roshar? It could be small cause he is so far off.
I also wondered if this could be Hoidā€™s secret base? He did gather investiture for some reason? Maybe concentrating that on this planet caused a tiny perpendicularity? Can perpendicularities exist without full shards? It would also explain the weird powers???
Taldain:
When will we get full Khriss backstory????????????? I love her.
Threnody:
How did Nazh get off the planet?
Ā Is Evil a shadow/splinter of Odium or Ambition? I thought the shades were Ambitionā€™s but the Evil is Odiumā€™s. Or maybe Ambition is still alive(the power not the person?)Ā
What does Aluminium do to shades?Ā
Roshar:
Iā€™m love Roshar!!!!!!!! Best world!!! The whole world is crabs stacked on each other!!!!!!
So Roshar seems like the closest to Yolen for me??? In one of the wobs brandon said there are tiny sentient dragons on yolen(correct me if Iā€™m wrong) and that there are three sentient races, dragons are one, humans are two and the only other sentient race weā€™ve seen so far are Parshendi? This is assuming that Cosmere does not have races other than what was on yolen.
Are Sleepless dragons or maybe a type of dragons? Is that what frost meant when they said they observe?Ā
On a related note, what the hell happened to Aimia?
City of shadows-shadows like shades?
Ok so when I first read sa I didnā€™t know abt shards so I assumed there were three gods Unity, Honor and Cultivation. Odium killed Unity first and then came for Honor(I actually assumed odium honor and cultivation killed unity first??? something abt the reaction odium gave when dalinar ascended??? Iā€™ll find the quote that set me off someday). The sibling is Unityā€™s shadow like stormfather or nightwatcher. Now I know Dalinar probably changed the shard name to Unity when he ascended like Harmony did?(I am still very confused. Iā€™m hoping a reread will make this clear.)
Is Cultivation the shard from silent divine? The whole disease for power sounds like a boon and curse???
Which other god did humans have before Odium chased them over to Roshar? Odium was going exclusively for shards? Did cultivation come over from another planet in the same system and brought humans with her??? coppermind says honor and cultivation settled on Roshar so was there a third shard? Is that shard related to the sibling?
Is Cusicesh the sibling? I only have the pronouns to go on for this? Stormfather used they and Cusicesh was said to have both male and female faces?
So spren freeze when recorded? Does that mean once their cognitive aspect is fixed they also become fixed? Is that what happened to Cusicesh? It was recorded that they appear the same way in the same place and that just happened?
(Why am I so fucking obsessed with this one damn spren?)
I also want more about Axies and Aimia in general??? Can the Iriali or the Aimians (Sian? non sleepless ones) become knights radiant?
Can parshendi bond with the unmade?Ā
Is there a parshendi shard? Are they all human?
Is kalak shin???(He looks like a child?) (According to a quiz I took, I am a WillShaper!!!)
I wanna know more about Willshapers!!!!!!!
Why does one of the heralds have horns????????or is that just a helmet and im an idiot?
Was Jazrien tanavast at some point???(I know a shardholder can survive a splintering!)
Did Odium make Hoid averse to hurting people? Like the shard on Obrodoi is instilled with hate for Hoid? Can Odium instill a intense hatred of harm in Hoid? Is that what pissed Hoid off or Odium did it cause Hoid was pissed off???
So the waters especially rivers and oceans are one continuous bead because they think of themselves as a whole? So what if we get enough soulcasters? Can we turn the whole of them into something else?Ā
How did Nazh get Shallanā€™s notes from the ocean? What happens when things sink into the ocean in cognitive realm? Do their beads become a part of the big ocean one or they just lie on the surface?(Does this make sense?)
If origin is honorā€™s perpendicularity then how did dalinar open it? Like can one shard have two perpendicularities?
What are dawnshard? did vyre kill jazrien with a dawnshard? could they be cultivations body???
Was honor splintered on shattered planes? or city of shadows????? Or aimia???
Are the major human cities so symmetrical cause they are landing spots for the space ships??? After so many years of crem the ship should just look like windblades???
Did eshonai die cause she bonded a spren and her plate and shardblade started screaming and she got overpowered in the highstorm???
Renarin and Lift can heal people together now???
Stormlight looks like breath in cognitive realm? What does mist looks like???????
Cosmere:
Is it possible to become savant on other types of investiture?
Can Adonalsium see future? Did Adonalsium choose to get shattered? Could Adonalsium have influenced Hoid to do what he does like preservation and his plan? Is there a threat to cosmere from outside(all i can think of is another galaxy crashing into it?)? Was the holder of Adonalsium killed?
So one big theme of Cosmere is rebirth so is Adonalsium gonna be born again?
What is the scar constellation? The tear also nags at me for some reason???
Who is Senna???(Preservation mentions them once??????)

Stormlight Archive and the unequal conflict
(iā€™m on a reread, mid-WoR now, so my memories of Ob and my perspective on RoW are a bit...stale)
ok so the hypocrisy and unequal values got to me yesterday again. branderson makes his antagonists intoĀ ā€œthis is Chancellor Hellfire, in his society all are treated equal but he eats infants for breakfast so he needs to be stoppedā€ and that is why we our morality must always be skewed towards the protagonists
in sla he does get around to calling himself out, mostly by kaladin arguing with syl whether killing the listeners is o.k. but killing amaram or elhokar is bad but like, it gets nowhere? there are like...3 or 4 points where this inequal morality pops up and all of them piss me off so much lmao:
- the elhokar, moash, dalinar point: imo elhokar sucks and moash was justified in killing him. branderson has a hard-on for royalty (as seen in mistborn era one which is a burning landfill in that regard i hate it so much) but elhokar proves off- and onscreen that heā€™s not a good ruler. yeah, by the end of OB he was about to become a radiant and moash killed that potential but...Your Actions Have Consequences and i canā€™t fault moash for killing him! i just! canā€™t! perhaps his future better actions wouldā€™ve eventually balanced the ledger but itā€™s not that awful that he died the circumstances and moashā€™s further blackening in RoW of course, again, make us less sympathetic for moash.Ā ā€œthis man has good points about an incompetent, mediocre, unsuited for his position person but heā€™s allied with evil incarnate so all his arguments are automatically invalidā€. way to make a nuanced argument and dalinar. where to begin? walks all over elhokar, calls the shots, and blatant amounts of hypocrisy - though he does call himself out. oh and i am still pissed about him forcefully bonding the stormfather haha
- lirin idk he just annoys me at this point, possibly because he just refuses to see another personā€™s perspective? ...wait, i know who he reminds me of, he just has less of a spine lmao iā€™m not saying who though or iā€™d get torn to shreds
- pre-RoW i wouldā€™ve made a point about szeth here but honestly, at this point heā€™s just spinning the wheel of his soul and doing whatever the arrow lands on. godspeed, idiot
- nale. complete dick by abiding to the law, also allied with odium, also a bad look even though his argument ofĀ ā€œthis is the singerā€™s planetā€ is a decent one
- taravangian. god do i understand his perspective so much, yet this is also invalidated by him bleeding people out what the fuck not to mention starting wars
- singers, listeners and all the jam: this is the last point because itā€™s also the biggest point and where the crux of the issue lies all the spren allying with humans and not with singers is a fucking betrayal. there. i donā€™t think this si very fleshed out yet? what set off the conflict? likely odium had its hand in there. but the humans fucked up their planet, right, and migrated to roshar, the planet of the singers, who then allied with odium to, likely, stop the humans from fucking up everything and taking their land because letā€™s be honest, that is what we always do and by allying with a force called Literally Evil, the fusedā€™s arguments are invalid and they are evil and they must be stopped. several thousand years are several thousand years and the rosharan humans have a right to live. yet the fused were alive at that point when it all started and that would make for a more interesting conflict yet itā€™s good vs bad, Honour & Cultivation vs Hatred the argument isnā€™t helped in that the fused we see are a) the pursuer, a fucking asshole b) raboniel, a ruthless scientist absolutely down with genocide yet made sympathetic through her willingness to cooperate with a human and c) leshwi, a honourable warrior who is also sympathetic to humans. raboniel, leshwi and venli end up breaking from odium in various ways, which denotes them as theĀ ā€œgoodā€ listeners/fused and, like, the humans lobotomized most of the singers and then enslaved their entire race? also not a good look. are the un-lobotomized parshmen entitled to payback? theyā€™re the descendants of descendants against the descendants of descendants, where do you draw the line and even odiumā€™s rhythms are named along bad lines i just. this is so heavy handed
i think my point here is that honour (humans) vs cultivation (singers) would make for a better, more nuanced conflict. you can have odium exaggerating it and fanning the flames by manipulating fringe groups on both sides and end up with the humans and singers allying against a common foe, an equally transspecies army led by odium. but right now the fused are Bad and the radiants are Good and that makes the entire conflict a bit...too clean-cut

Rhythm of War end spoilers ahoy
whoo i nearly broke my wrist reading this but here we go:
- kaladin deserves a 7000-year-old-girlfriend
- still super pissed about the narrative positioning the singers as the bad ones for siding with odium and only a handful of Good Ones Working With Humans are good when honor vs cultivation with odium pulling the strings in the background would be a far more interesting narrative
- journey before destination, motherfucker *navani punts moash through the cognitive realm until he lands in scadrial 10000 yrs ago, right in front of kelsier. kelsier punches moash in the dick. credits roll*
- branderson you coward you set up chasmfiend!eshonai, so give her to us. itā€™s what she deserves
- pursuer touches grieving kaladin: buenos d--
- gee, shallan, how come the cryptics lets you have TWO bonds??? (tbh this might just be branderson fixing a continuity error or establishing Pattern as the ballsiest mfer in the entire cognitive realm
- navani also deserves a 7000-year-old-girlfriend milf scholar alliance
- this was a very gay book overall
- ACE JASNAH but seriously, wit? WIT? WIT??? theyā€™re pals, not lovers
- moash: i donā€™t want this pain! take it, odium! taravangian: new phone who dis
- lirin really pisses me off
- ADOLIN KHOLIN, BEST BOI
- i know liftā€™s feelings are about growing up but theyā€™re also a dysphoria mood so like
- kaladin: YOU get a shardplate and YOU get a shardplate and YOU--
- adolin. again. i love him so much. he just sees someone in need of support, asks,Ā ā€œis anyone helping themā€ and doesnā€™t wait for an answer
- You Wouldnā€™t Download A Spren
-Ā ā€œfriendly cremlingā€ sounds pretty familiar lmao
- Shallan-Radiant-Veil wore formless on the day she went to kill a Herald
- better a cremling in the pen box than a chull down in the chasms
- need to read dawnshard soon for my chiri chiri fix

the scene in the throne room feels like horrible comedic gold. prince jing knows he's somehow the butt of a joke, commander meng tries to warn him without xia jiang noticing, the emperor is just. being himself. and prince yu is seconds away from opening his mouth to say: "hey bro have you heard about updog this issue with concubine cao?"

in the shower i also realized that there's almost no romance in TOG. nicky & joe have a few more relationship-focused scenes (van!) but they're an established couple and that's just a constant part of the background (headbonks etc). and andromache definitely has a lot of moments with quynh and that one scene with the drugstore employee (who's apparently important enough to get a name? maybe she'll return in part 2??).
but there's no romance involved in the plot, none of the will-they-won't-they, saving-the-damsel-as-flirting, none of the. idkyk? the platonic strength of the group is tested by the conflicts, and none of these bonds are...i'd almost say cheapened by romance.
i'm counting nicky & joe as one unit, since their relationship to one another barely affects the others and doesn't cause any tension to the plot, they're even abducted as a unit. if one was abducted and the other still free, their romantic relationship would serve as an additional drive for the rescue. instead, booker, nile & andy seek to rescue them because they're comrades in fate.
booker's betrayal and andy's quiet suffering only cause tension along (deep) platonic bonds, and nile doesn't choose to save the group because she's in love with any of them. that doesn't mean that they all have equal relationships with each other - nile is definitely closest to andy since andy recruited her, and andy and booker have a lot on interaction on-screen (though that might just be a cinematographic choice to highlight the contrast and similarities between them and furthermore, nicky & joe are completely removed from the other three for what, 40 minutes? andy should definitely be closer with them, given that she probably knew them for several centuries before booker joined the gang)
last but not least this also allows for the contrast between nile's unit sending her away for what's likely going to be the exact same horrible testing as the company did - to the point of packing her bags for her - and andy letting nile go, followed by nile voluntarily going back to save them, which includes assaulting the lab (and voluntarily entering it).
actually, hey, romantic relationships as a source of misery, from andy beating herself up over quynh to copley losing his wife to disease which motivates him to yeah i think i'd need to rewatch to formulate that one out sorry. also, again, nicky & joe
tldr something something pacific rim yadda yadda animorphs thank you for driving the (present day) plot through strong platonic relationships
