I feel like [and maybe this is just my experience] but 2012-2013 tumblr was a place where oc creators built up these ye old high fantasy worlds, if not modern fantasy influenced by SPN. And as someone who was never into either of these genres, I still often felt the pressure to have a high fantasy story of my own for the sake of fitting in.
