I need your opinion for something.

As you may know, I tend to have a lot of ideas, which is the main reason why I have so many pending projects and requests due to post (+ my anxiety and impostor syndrome, but that's another thing). However, thankfully, I've regained some of my inspiration and am starting to like writing again.

I think that being able to pay attention in class and understanding everything is helping, but it's too son to say and I don't wanna jinx it.

Right now I'm at 1254 followers and I can hardly believe it. The fact that there are so many good authors out there and you're here bullshitting with me makes me cry tears of joy. I love interacting with you; you're funny, you're cute and you're nice and I want to thank you.

I've set my mind to finish the 500 followers celebration before I reach 1.5k because I want to make some sort of celebration as well and because I think is fucking time lmao, but since this is about you, I want to know what you think.

Another late... thing. This pain-to-view was a small, self-indulgent something I have began working on years ago. A silly little idea I got from wanting to someday draw all the queer ships I ended up having with other people, and then realising that Pride and the good ol' June's Bride Pixiv trends are both on the same month, so I figured: hey, why not just draw said ships in wedding getups! And dso... 30 OC ships total. Rest in pieces, sanity. In the end I got overwhelmed and kept stalling for literal years on end, but this year I finally went "fuck it" and... still missed self-assigned deadline anyway ahaha.

I also feel really guilty, as for some of them I no longer have the contact with the characters' owners, and in a few rare cases I don't even know under which nickname to look for them anymore. gonna show u guys a little opalescent highlight hack i threw together today

rainbow gradient above your main figure (i usually have all my main figure folders/layers in one big folder, so i can clip gradient maps + adjustments to it!). liquify tool to push the colors around a bit. STAY WITH ME I KNOW IT LOOKS STUPID RN I'M GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS

THEN: set it to add/glow (or the equivalent in ur drawing program), lower the opacity a bit, and apply a layer mask. then u can edit the mask with whatever tools you like to create rainbow highlights!!

in this case i'm mostly using the lasso fill tool to chip out little facets, but i've also done some soft airbrushing to bring in larger rainbow swirls in some areas. it's pretty subtle here, but you can see it better when i remove the gradient map that's above everything, since below i'm working in greyscale:

u could also just do this with a brush that has color jitter, but what i like about using layer masks for highlight/shading layers is how simple and reversible it makes everything. i can use whatever brushes i want, and erasing/redoing things is super low stakes, which is great when i often approach this stuff with a super trial-and-error approach.

example: have u ever thrown a gradient w multiple colors over an entire piece, set it to multiply etc, and then tried to erase it away to carve out shadows/highlights? it's super frustrating, bc it looks really good, but if u erase something and then change ur mind later, u basically would have to like. recreate the gradient in the area u want to cover up again. that's how i used to do things before figuring out layer masks!! but masking basically creates a version of this with INFINITE undo bc u can erase/re-place the base layer whenever u want.

anyway, back to rambling about this specific method:

i actually have TWO of these layers on this piece (one with the liquified swirls shown above, and another that's just a normal concentric circle gradient with much broader stripes) so i can vary the highlights easily as needed.

since i've basically hidden the rainbow pattern from myself, the colors in each brushstroke i make will kind of be a surprise, which isn't always great -- but easily fixable! for example, if i carve out a highlight and it turns out the rainbow pattern in that area is way too stripey, i can just switch from editing the mask to editing the main layer and blur that spot a bit.

also, this isn't a full explanation of the overall transparency effect in these screencaps! there's other layer stuff happening below the rainbow highlights, but the short version is i have all this character's body parts in different folders, each with their own lineart and background fill, and then the fill opacity is lowered and there's multiply layers clipped to that -- blah blah it's a whole thing. maybe i'll have a whole rundown on this on patreon later. uhhh i think that's it tho! i hope u get something useful out of this extremely specific thing i did lmao

Depends on with what! When it comes to people it’s actually Violet with her family and (failure in) anything involving magic. Gifted child syndrome brought to the extreme via prophecies and political intrigue (…as much as the setting and lack of writing skills allow for anyways ^^)

But for concepts, sure Red‘s got it with the whole "Being the chosen hero of the countryTM“ thing, but also Deniz with himself, Mage with anything involving his missing and proclaimed dead for at least 5 years bestie, the postman formerly nicknamed Yel with his job + knowing prev is unconsciously hardcore projecting said bestie onto him, and to various extents every "element spirit“ oc with the fact they’re technically echoes of dead people who will never be the person they were supposed to be anymore. Hello lore :]

THE MOMENT WE WERE ALL WAITING FOR, FINALLY FINISHED THE DESIGN OF ASTER YESSSSSS ✨✨✨✨✨✨❤❤

This design belongs to the Wish rewrite called "The kingdom of wishes" (Written by @annymation and soon illustrated by @emillyverse and me)

Sorry for the delay, but this guy had so many things to draw and I also had a thousand ideas that it took me a while to capture them all (4 drawings wow, even I'm surprised lol)

Now after this introduction I will tell you the procedure of its design :]

2D MODEL:

-Maybe some don't notice it, but for the 2D drawing of Aster I didn't add many shadows, because in the classic Disney movies the animation doesn't have many shadows if we look closely, this is for several reasons (at that time they had to inking FRAME BY FRAME, can you imagine how much longer it would have taken to add detailed shadows? I really have respect for the animators)

(Here are some examples of what I'm trying to explain)

-As I said before, I didn't detach myself much from the concept art of the movie, I just added some other details that occurred to me, Anny and Emy.

-We decided that his cape would have the constellations of the signs of the zodiac (It was Emy's idea), which in the final result are on the cape, the constellations are noticeable more or less depending on Aster's mood.

-In the Wish rewrite it is mentioned that Aster's hair is like a candle (Reference to Hades) so I decided not to add the lineart in that part

His hair changes depending on his emotions, but not only that, but also his lineart, the calmer he is, the cleaner his animation will be, however with strong emotions (anger, sadness, nervousness) his details will be more neglected, especially when He is REALLY angry, by the way I made his hair look like a flame to give more drama to his design and also make a reference to Ember from Elemental

And as a final detail, the star-shaped gem that she has as a brooch changes color, just like her earrings.

3D MODEL:

-When Aster disguises himself as a human, his details on his clothes would disappear and the shape of his accessories would change to ones without a star shape, also the tone of yellow would look duller, you know so as not to draw attention (although he is dressed like a prince with a giant cape, the boy doesn't know how to hide the truth very well lmao)

-In general, it's just that the design becomes simpler, the only thing that changes is her hair that is no longer a flame, her freckles that are no longer little stars, her clothes no longer have so many details and her mark on her eye disappears(￣▽￣) .

By the way, I wanted to thank @the-autistic-idiot for giving us the great idea of ​​Aster having a star-shaped mark on his eye :D.

-Also, I think that those who have seen my other Wish redesigns are wondering why it seems like I had spit a rainbow at Aster's 3D drawings, what happened is that when I was painting my neurons said ✨Change your coloring✨ and well, The drawing in the end came out like this, although I honestly like it better, it better represents how I draw in a traditional way

Believe it or not, I did in fact go to see Spies Are Forever (you'd never know from looking at my blog), and, as usual, I wrote down some notes. My memory is shit so I'll probably update this with additions when I remember more, but for now, below the cut...

Act 1:

. They played Show Stoppin' Number and so many people were singing along

. It started midway through them playing The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals

. Joey: “Sorry to anyone who thought they were seeing Wizard Of Oz. Although, this show has many friends of Dorothy”

. Emily Proudlock has a beautiful voice. The microphone was struggling a little at the start, though lmao

. THEY GOT AN ACTUAL BANANA PEEL

. Oliver Ormson (Owen) called Curt “Mega” which in the show he doesn't do until he becomes the DMA (not a criticism, just interesting)

. Owen said the “A man needs his privacy”(?) line, so Owen and Barb have officially interacted now

. I love Brian's Informant. His French accent was so over the top

. Brian stared at Clark when he said “The Deadliest Man Alive” until Clark played the keyboard sting. And then whenever anyone else said it throughout the show, he played it.

. They left in a huge awkward silence when the DMA was waiting for Sergio and it was so funny

. Sergio sounded so awkward when he said “You guys can relate, right?”

. Joey fucking SCREAMED “PLEASE!” during Sergio's little Somebody's Gotta Do It reprise

. “The Deadliest Man Alive disarms Mega and escapes”

. Dean John Wilson walked back on stage after his exit, said “The Deadliest Man” and left again

. I WAS ON THE SAME ROW AS A.J. FUCKING HOLMES AND DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL JOEY SHOUTED HIM OUT

. Joey shouted out loads of cosplayers still in character as Vanger Borschtit

. Everyone was so excited about Vanger Borschtit, and Joey made everyone cheer for an acceptable amount of time “for his reel”

. The new We Love the Prince lyrics really are so much better (also what did he do to the Pope?!?!?)

. Vanger Borschtit was DISTRAUGHT when the prince died

. Obioma stared so blankly into the audience at “Or whatever it is you boys do in the rumpus room”

. I think out of all of the new cast members, Evelyn Hoskins (Tatiana) sounded the most like the original actor (she was also so cool)

. Obioma actually sung the little “Very good place to start” Sound Of Music reference and Tatiana looked so annoyed

. Tatiana was SO into Doing This up until the kiss (which wasn't a real kiss lmao)

. MRS MEGAAAAAAAAAA

. The lights flashed rainbow after the line “So we're just… friends?”

. Curt looked straight at Barb when he said “Some of us may die”

. The Informant looked so concerned at the start of NSB reprise, then actually kinda got into it

. Jak Malone (Von Nazi) made his death SO DRAMATIC. He fell to the ground and went “Ow, my back! Ow, my front! Ow, my…self” and then got up and bowed

. Owen stood behind the DMA and they just spun around while Joey narrated

. Joey: “THE DEADLIEST MAN ALIVE FALLS DOWN THROUGH A HIDDEN TRAP DOOR IN THE STAGE–”

. They changed the line “Taking your advice” to “Moving on”, just like Curt (I think it was Curt? Edit: IT WAS JOEY) wanted in the livestream

. The speech before Spy Again (Reprise) was so good. Everyone came out on stage and it was all just incredible

Okay, here we go then, why don't I like one of the most famous and prolific ships on the fandom?

First of all, there's a major power imbalance at play, you know, chaos god that can reshape mind and reality with a snap of his fingers matched with a regular pegasus girl, and an drastic age difference (which could be discarded cause Fluttershy's an adult, just worth a mention.)

But the primary issue comes from the canon itself, especially with how they came together. Fluttershy was just shafted for her full responsibility to be to make sure Discord gets better; Something that already was a strange choice of Celestia (like girl why are you throwing a random mortal you dont know that well onto a godlike chaos being even you struggled with? It reeks of writers already having come up a solution and not wanting to build a foundation to lead there.) and canon proves again and again that if discord doesnt have fluttershy around, he will make bad choices and hurt people, something that gets proven again and again all the way to gen fucking five. That's textbook codependency and it makes it even more weird by the incredible, terrifying power imbalance. Discord isnt just an alicorn, hes the only one of his kind because of how powerful he is, and his powers are insanely dangerous to have on a relationship with a mortal. Like, you saw how he was when he was jealous of Fluttershy for having a diffrent friend. Can you imagine what he'd do if somebody flirted with her? (even if they weren't dating, if Fluttershy said she got a girlfriend or whatever, Discord would straight up throw rainbow dash on a labyrinth of infinite agony)

I think my primary issues come from the canon because he is always abusing his powers, never using them wisely, and always causing trouble (WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL POINT OF EVEN BRINGING HIM BACK TOO)-- And the ratio of slaps on the wrist lower dramatically by the end (the final conflict is entirely his fault purely because he thought having a conflict would be cool)-- All of which just makes him untrustworthy to be on a relationship with a mortal hes obssesed with. He'd be like a yandere boyfriend exept a chaos god, which, yikes!

Srsly the fact that cozy glow the toddler gets sent to hell and turned to stone instead of the chaos god that sponsored her is just plain WEIRD. It's a writers problem.

There's a reasons why Alicorns have to ascend, earn their power-- And why they tend to abuse it less. Being born with power just begets a diffrent attitude towards it; Which is smth that the writers do interpret quite well, with how Discord acts. he has no empathy, he doesnt need to care, because reality is his to shape, and then boom, teaching someone to be better just became a lot harder. Good character! Very funny, very well designed and voiced-- But goddamn he's weirdly written as a ""Good"" guy.

Now lets finally turn to the woman in the relationship. because Fluttershy is a normal mortal gal with a normal mortal life with her own needs, which generally shouldn't have to involve her entire life or routine on making sure a godlike manbaby does the right thing with his powers. it doesn't feel like the kind of thing that has any consent to it, after all, discord doesnt need to ask for anything, he can just do. (THANKS FOR THE IDEA CELESTIA) It just reeks of a kind of misoginy-ass writing where the woman has to bend over backwards for the man.

Its like the shy pegasus was just. Set up for LIFE on this strange relationship. Its kind of creepy.

And Fluttershy just deserves better than him in my opinion; And she can do better, too. Also it doesnt help that you know-- 99% other ship with fluttershy dont have any of these issues lmao. Even canon Rainbow Dash would treat her better, so i dont bother with Fluttercord ever!

Iron Widow Book 3 Theories

Iron Widow and Heavenly Tyrant Spoilers!

apparently xiran posted that they will be tackling pink imperialism and rainbow imperialism in book 3 so i'm excited to see how that will play out! i wonder who will be the "imperialists"? melians maybe? or other countries on orichaea besides huaxia?

based on the ending of heavenly tyrant i think qin zheng will be the main antagonist/villain of book 3. (kinda unfortunate tho bc i actually really liked his character development and the whole dynamic with zetian in HT. any chance he will be redeemed and added to the polycule? not impossible, but unlikely)

qin zheng will probably die in the end, most likely killed by zetian or su*cide, but there will definitely be some resolution in this aspect. in HT qin zheng mentioned to zetian that he couldn't live long in this world bc it wasn't right for him (smth about the consequences of sleeping over two centuries) and that he wanted to die as a martyr while his death could still be meaningful to aid the revolution, so maybe that

OR alternatively he might drink mercury thinking it will make him immortal and accidentally kill himself, just like his historical counterpart qin shi huang lmao

shimin's spirit was absorbed by the vermilion bird at the end of HT and he has become a hundun-like being

zetian and co. will team up with the hunduns to defeat qin zheng and/or melians - this is constantly foreshadowed by zetian's continued unwillingness to kill hunduns bc she believes she can communicate with them + that one meaningful moment in the water during the battle where she found temporary peace with the hunduns when she felt like they could understand her. i don't think xiran would include this randomly for no reason

i feel like helan will play a bigger role idk

i really hope no one in our beloved iron triangle dies (again)

Oh, yeah. Absolutely.

Like, have you seen the guy?

But for real tho, he'd absolutely try to weaponize his luck or just use it as like a whim to win games or somehow get himself into dangerous situations that specifically try to harm him or make him lose but in the end would just get out of it unscathed somehow.

While physically he'd be fine, mentally and emotionally? Yeah, that's a whole other story...

A lot of the other guys will be quick to catch onto his self-destructive behaviour and his constant brushing off of their concern or downplaying it that they don't have to worry since he'll always be the victor in the end but it just worries and frustrates them even more.

The most overprotective out of all them would most likely be Grim, Adeuce duo, Jack Howl, the Tweels, Ortho Shroud and Riddle Rosehearts suprisingly.

Grim's a given tbh, I don't think I need to elaborate how he he'd react to that sort of behaviour. Like sure, maybe a bit of enabling at first since he didn't care as much or is oblivious back then because it brought in tons of money and money equals more tuna cans, right? Yeah, well. Little guy's gonna have a rude awakening once he realizes what it took for all those tuna cans lmao

For the Adeuce duo and Jack Howl, it's mostly being constantly of proximity with eachother that makes them aware of Yuu!Aventurine's behaviour and they try their hardest to stop it or get him away from getting noticed by less savoury eyes like: Ace and Deuce beating up any mobs from just instigating fights/duels with him, Jack using the excuse from the Headmaster to be his constant bodyguard and being the voice of reason of him to stop a few gambles that risk to much, etc etc

For the Tweels, while Jade is in it for the entertaing and surprise factor that comes with Yuu!Aventurine going into all types of situations and games and getting to be the winner in all of them, he'd certainly wouldn't want his one source of good entertainment to get eaten by the sharks aroud here so he'd discreetly steer him away from such situations that he isn't certain should be good for a fellow Rainbow Fish like him.

As for Floyd tho, well- he'd absolutely squeeze or manhandle the guy if he isn't cooperating with him like he's supposed to, or maybe like, vaguely threaten his autonomy because he surely doesn't need it when he can't run when he needs too lol

Ortho Shroud would just use facts and logic to reason his way to get Yuu!Aventurine to atleast give up a gamble or just take time for himself to just relax for awhile.

Riddle Rosehearts would also absolutely use his authority as dorm leader to get Yuu!Aventurine to stay over at the Heartslabyul dorm and relinquish his autonomy for a few days because he CLEARLY doesn't know how to live properly and it's in his best interest to teach him the ways to care one's own self correctly and no, he has no say in this- it's final. (Dude's not even part of Heartslabyul tf-)

(I also think Leona would also may or may not threaten turning Ramshackle into sand if he doesn't stop running himself ragged soon...)

So yeah, all in all- it would be a constant worry since it's sort part of Yuu!Aventurine's surface identity and he isn't willing to be vulnerable enough with some of them most of the time so they'd just decide to just discreetly protect him from danger caused by outside factors or by his own ruinous making, rip.
