Various minutiae for The Co-Stars, A Romantic Comedy by Ryan Reynolds:
⭐️ I'd love to give you a soundtrack for this story but all I did was listen to Everything is Embarrassing by Sky Ferreira about 100 times on repeat and that's it. That's the sunny pop song playing every time they drive through the countryside, that's the end credits. There you go
⭐️ From the lyrics to that song, Hanging On By A Heartbeat was a strong title contender but for most of the writing process the working title, which I still think is pretty funny, was The Proposal (A Different One). But the final title had the right combination of meta and earnestness for my taste, so
⭐️ Relatedly, I actually did come up with a basic plot for the film within the fanfic - it's called The Co-Stars, and it's about two actors playing love interests to a third character while shooting a movie but they fall in love with each other while filming. When I thought of this I was like "that's genius!" but now I think it's kinda dumb. I don't know, I go back and forth. Since the story doesn't really get into the actual filming there was never a point at which it felt natural to actually say what the movie was about, although I did have the line People are asking Ryan a lot of questions about his relationship with his co-star that have already been answered by his movie The Co-Stars. that I wanted to wedge into the end, I just could not pull it off. Sorry to that line, which is absolutely believable for Ryan Reynolds to think because that man spends too much time looking at Twitter
⭐️ I could have spent more time editing but I just really wanted the damn thing out in the world and I'm really attached to the emotionally and aesthetically pleasing 16,016 word count so unless I absolutely can't stand it I'm not going to do any additional editing to change that. I did already have to edit it twenty minute ago to reflect what Ryan Reynolds' actual age would be per the timeline because I apparently can't do the simplest fucking math up to and including 48+1
⭐️ Here's a little moment that I couldn't really build anything around so I cut it, but I think it's nice:
Hugh’s raft drifts by and Ryan grabs it, bumping against Hugh’s forearm where his hand’s splayed out lazily in the water. Poolwater drips pleasantly onto his wrist as Hugh reaches over and grasps the edge of Ryan’s raft too, keeping them steady. When Hugh turns to look at him, Ryan forgets what he was going to say. There’s just the hot sun beating down on them, the cool water beneath, Hugh’s wrist warm against his. So Ryan just smiles at him, and after a moment Hugh smiles back. Under the wide blue sky they drift together.
Anyway, that's some stuff you know now. Feel free to ask if you have any questions about it. And if you read this fic and told me you enjoyed it: obviously, I love you.
#this post inspired by me listening to everything is embarrassing half a dozen times in a row while making lunch and then being like#people will care. i'll make this post about my fanfic and people will care about this post about my fanfic#did you care about this post? did you like my fanfic? sound off in the comments below!#when you attach yourself too dearly to a story and then post it but you aren't done thinking about it: day 2#my fic

A recent interview of Alison Mosshart from The Kills for music magazine Dans Ta Face B. Full interview under the cut and French version on their website.
La Face B : You’ve just released your sixth album, God Games, twenty years after your first record. Which means you’ve been making music together for two decades now. You’ve mentioned a few times in recent interviews being ‘terrified’ of the process of recording this album. Obviously, danger is inherent to creativity and passion. What were you scared of in particular, regarding your own history as a band? Can one as a musician actually ever get rid of this fear? Alison Mosshart : I think as an artist, fear is good. Fear keeps one alert and desirous to discover something new in oneself, in one’s work, and about the world. Fear is a simple word to describe “facing the unknown.” At the start of every album, you are facing the unknown. There is nothing, a blank page... and you have to muster up the courage to turn this nothingness in somethingness. And not just any old thing. But something truly great. Even though we’ve been writing music together for 20 years, nothing is a given. Nothing is taken for granted. We constantly must prove to ourselves and to one another that we’ve got the goods. Every record is as important as the first, at least to the artist.
La Face B : When I first heard the album, I was under the impression that I was listening to a movie sequence or a journey, with some kind of movements. You kept the traditional verse-chorus structure in most songs, but they also sound like something else. What do you think evolved the most in your music over the years? And on the other hand, is there something that definitely stayed true to your first sound?
Alison Mosshart : A couple of things. We both think the traditional verse chorus structure is a little at odds with the mind. Whereas novels and poetry and film... can veer around elegantly, it’s a little hard with rock n’ roll structure sometimes. It’s nice not following the traditional rules and allow some abstraction.
Thoughts by nature...zig zag, skip, don’t really work in liner or predictable order. Thoughts lead to thoughts lead to other thoughts say “california can’t be trusted” to “I love rollercoasters” to “Thursday’s good for me,” to “I wonder what happened to Bob?” “Green car,” “dog bit my face,” “phone’s dead again” “papercut!” And on and on and on.
Having said all that, I do think our music is very visual. It seems to contain its own colours and shapes and tactility. I know when a song is done by listening to it and seeing it from start to end. When it feels like I’m watching a play or a short film and I’m satisfied with what I’ve seen, I’m happy with the song. If I’m listening and the scene freezes, there is still work to do.
La Face B : Did having another person involved in the studio give you a different perspective on your music?
Alison Mosshart : Having another person in the room always gives you a different perspective. You know right away if a song is working by feeling the energy of that person hearing it for the first time. They don’t have to say a word. The truth is just there.
La Face B : Your lyrics almost always address another person, like a dialogue between two people. Love and hate, hope and failure, tenderness and violence blend into each other in the stories you tell. They also almost always convey a sense of urgency. Alison, do you still record and write your lyrics in your car while driving at fast speed, CARMA-style?
Alison Mosshart : Sure. We’re all contending with one another and ourselves. There is surely a lot of back and forth and push and pull going on in the lyrics. The war is never won, right? About cars, I love to drive. It’s very meditative for me. A lot of ideas come when I’m behind the wheel. I do still have a little Dictaphone in the car that I keep handy. It’s a safer option then a pen and pad.
La Face B : When I first saw you in 2011 at Rock en Seine during the Blood Pressures tour, there were two other musicians with you onstage. Lately, it looks like you’ve gone back as a two piece again. Is it important to you not to depend on anyone? Is it a way of not having to compromise?
Alison Mosshart : Different times call for different measures. We love playing with other musicians and we love playing as a two piece. During certain records, it made a lot of sense to have the back up. But it was a different time in the music industry too. We’re in a different world now 6 years later. Streaming has made it unaffordable to hire extra musicians. Which I think is ultimately a very bad thing. I hope one day things change.
La Face B : The Kills have always been a very visual band. Alison, you’re also a painter, and Jamie, I’ve heard in a recent interview that you would have loved to collaborate with Lucian Freud… Do you feel the need to explore other art forms to maintain this global approach to music?
Alison Mosshart : We’ve always painted, drawn, taken photos, filmed things. I love every art form. I don’t think it’s important to do all these things to maintain a global approach to music. I’m not sure what a global approach to music even is. I just love making art. It all comes from the same place I think.
La Face B : A friend of mine who doesn’t like rock music was telling me the other day how he thought he witnessed the best rock concert he’s ever been to after seeing you live in Paris, precisely because your music didn’t sound like rock to him. I found that very interesting because you do have that kind of bluesy-guitar signature style, while also playing with noisy textures that could come from a cut-up approach, like hip hop music does. Do this kind of approach inspire you? Do you pay any attention at all to genre while writing?
Alison Mosshart : We see ourselves as an electric guitar band before a rock n’ roll band. With an electric guitar and a vocal, you can do anything, any genre, any style, fuck around with any rhythm you want. Being a two piece is the only limit we have, everything else, every idea that we can conceive of starting from that point, is fair game.
La Face B : Lastly- I recently came across these images and immediately thought of The Kills. A series of photographs by John Divola titled ‘Dogs Chasing My Car in the Desert’, which he took in 96-98 while driving in the Southern California desert, conjuring existential themes like isolation and desire, man versus wild, joy versus fear. It made me think of God Games’ cover, with the bull and the matador, but it also reminded me of Don Van Vliet’s painting retreat in California after Captain Beefheart’s ending, and of Vanishing Point’s iconic car chase. Basically a lot of the things you’ve often mentioned as an inspiration. I wanted to point it out to you, see if you knew this photographer. What does it evoke for you?
Alison Mosshart : I love this photo series. Meditative again, like driving a car. It’s cool to see stills of animals running, their shape, their sleekness, the body transformed into a bullet. I don’t know why but it makes me think of Benton Harbor, Michigan in the snow and the dogs at Key Club (a recording studio we worked at a lot) running down the desolate main street in a town that time forgot. These photos look like love and loyalty to me.

Here, take a bunch of Predaking, Skylynx and Darksteel headcanons!
As a treat!! They were a treat for me to write ✍️. Silly dragon guys I ❤️❤️ Love them.
✧˖*°࿐
- Of course he would never admit this to anyone who doesn’t already know, but Predaking is extremely ticklish on the bottom of his feet, only back towards his heels. Darksteel found this out the hard way one day when he thought it would be silly to try tickling him while he was having a snooze and accidentally got kicked into next Thursday.
- Skylynx likes to wake up extra early to see the sunrise. He sneaks away to be as alone as possible, just before dawn breaks, and finds a good place to watch the sun come up. He loves soaking in the first morning rays of sunshine. It’s usually his favorite part of the day! He never talks about it to anyone though, it would be spoiled if anyone else tried to come with.
- Darksteel loves tiny creatures. He just thinks they’re so cool (anything but scraplets). If he had ever met Lazerbeak he would have been a fan. In my AU, there’s all sorts of “tiny” (by cybertronian standards) bug-like creatures and he collects them! He gets so hyped up learning about new ones. Maybe he’d like humans, but who knows..
- Predaking, even if he had legions of subjects, is super attentive and has a very detailed memory. He’d remember everyone’s name, face, even things about their personality/things they’d mention liking. He is definitely one of those people who would gift someone something they had only just slightly mentioned wanting (and had probably forgotten they said anything about it in the first place).
- Darksteel counts it as a great victory if he ever gets Skylynx to full-on laugh with him. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes they both get really silly over something and Darksteel likes not being the only one laughing for once.
- This isn’t much of a headcanon because it’s probably pretty true, but I’ll take it further. Predaking loves reading. Researching, yes of course, since he needs to know all he can to best serve his people; but aside from that he just loves to read. Novels, poems, news reports, you name it. He’s already read it. His particular favorite though, is novels. I once imagined him reading Jane Austen and I can’t get it out of my head now. I’m sure he was ready to throw down for Elizabeth when Mr. Darcy insulted her family in Pride and Prejudice. (Imagine the Autobots giving him some datapads filled with similar content from Earth for him to read, to help maintain a good relationship with the Predacons… And he’s genuinely so hyped but trying to be professional in the moment 😭)
- Probably nobody else on Cybertron does this but when Darksteel gets extra giddy about something he trots. At least in quadroped mode anyway, he doesn’t exactly skip in bipedal mode because well that would be too embarrassing and he’s too fierce for that… but it’s okay to do as a dragon in his own mind.
- Skylynx and Darksteel both like trying to blow smoke rings. Like how they do in movies, with cigars and such. Instead of needing to be smoking something, if they do something similar to a belch, they can naturally puff out smoke instead of fire. Sometimes they’re even able to get Predaking to play along and the three contend with each other on who can do the best ones.
- At some point, they get a hold of a great bunch of music files. Things get a little tense. While Predaking is trying to enjoy Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture (complete with cannons), Darksteel is playing Dragostea din tei too loud. Skylynx can’t stand any of it and just wants to listen to his Grizzly Bear playlist in peace, so to avoid confrontation everyone sort of splits off to mind their own music. Hopefully they get some custom headphones soon. (Basically, Predaking’s all about classical music, Darksteel loves meme songs, and Skylynx is an indie folk fan)
- Predaking usually doesn’t remember his dreams, but when he does they’re extremely abstract yet vivid. Mostly, they’re representations of whatever he has been feeling most. Because he sleeps rather lightly, they are pretty rare.
- Skylynx sleeps deeply, and has realistic dreams that have their own plots and everything. Sometimes he even has consecutive nights that are the same dream just continued on from where it left off the night before. He likes to keep track of these stories and writes down everything he can remember as soon as he gets a chance.
- Darksteel also gets good deep sleep most of the time. Though he never remembers his dreams enough to be able to talk about them or write them down, he knows they must be pretty good, because he never seems to wake up in a bad mood. Of all the three Predacons, he usually is the one to wake up most refreshed.
- All three take their morning energon (or whatever equivalent of breakfast there may be) together, usually in a comfortable silence. They do have their own routines to get ready for the day, but they also like to, actively like to, spend calm time together before the day officially starts. It’s one of the many subtle things they do naturally that shows that they’re getting quite close as bretheren after all.

A03 Wrapped 2023 Edition
This is technically an ask game but I'm just gonna answer some of these here bc 2023 was a super big year for me in terms of how much I wrote!! And I'm just kinda proud of my silly self hehehe <3
How many works did you publish this year? 14! I wrote for four different fandoms! Blue Lock, Persona 3, PKMN Black and White, and PKMN Scarlet and Violet.
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? I've written so many things I'm proud of this year, but I'm gonna have to say riptide ! rnis in Rin's hometown of Kamakura, but I did sooo much research for it and put so much effort into it and then wrote it all in a three weeks in a massive brainrot streak hahah.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? Ohhh god time to embarrass myself again but the Chainsmokers was my top artist of 2023 and I also used so many of their lyrics and songs for inspiration. As evidence above hahaha~
Pairing you wrote the most for this year? In terms of number of fics, it's rnis/rinsagi at 4! But in terms of word count, otkr/tabieita came from the back with the surprise win!
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? The surprise contender that was tabieita hahah
How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year? Haha, haha.... ha. I'm sitting at five fully started/outlined ones already... oh boy XD
What work was the quickest to write? Gold Star for Effort which took me like four hours djfndkj
What work took you the longest to write? Pull in Case of Bisexual Awakening at five and a half months!
Your favorite character to write this year? Otoya Eita, my beloved womanizing green noodle ninja hahah
What’s one pairing you want to explore next year? Bris/ barousagi bug bit me recently so I know that wave of brainrot is coming!
Which work of yours have you reread the most? let's admit, without apology, what we do to each other .... my comfort fic
How many kudos in total did you get this year? 2,096! The most I've ever gotten in a single year and nearly half of what I've gotten altogether!
What do you listen to while writing? I have a bunch of character or ship playlists I made that I like to listen to! I also sometimes just throw rain sounds in the background too pfft.
Favorite work you wrote this year? Once again... Pull in Case of Bisexual Awakening! Literally changed the course of my year both in terms of my real life and my creative one writing that bad boy!
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? He is rawer, nowadays, somewhat like when Sae first rejected him but also not. ‘Somewhat’ because he still aches all the time, ‘not’ because he embraces it. All wound. No boy. No need for anyone to stem his bleeding because Rin’s at his best when he’s bleeding, when he can be obscene, when he can destroy. - from final boys
Biggest surprise while writing this year? That once I figured out a good process for going from idea-outline-actual writing to finished product, I was so impressed with the amount of writing I was actually capable of! I've always been a notoriously slow writer, which led to me not being able to post super often prior to 2023 But I really hammered out a writing process that works for me and I did the best I could with it I think! I hope to improve upon it this year and hopefully get a better handle of keeping my word counts in check too (chronic over-writer here dkjfndjk).
2023 was such a big wild year for my writing and I can only hope I keep up the energy in 2024. It was such a blast and I appreciate everyone who supported me through all the ups and downs!! <3

You know, I’ve been having a lot of OC thoughts lately. Usually my family gets to hear most of them, but none of them are available so now it’s tumblr’s turn for insanity :)
So in my fantasy world that I’ve been building for a couple of years or so now, I have these… gods. Eldritch, celestial beings who exist as spirits in the world. They don’t really consider themselves gods, they’re really more like a lost civilization than anything, but the premise still stands.
Anyways, I’ve been thinking a lot about their culture and language lately. They don’t really have to contend with things like death, they’re very much so immortal and almost impervious to harm, so they don’t really do a lot of things for survival. They also typically communicate with a form of telepathy, so language isn’t even a necessary thing for them.
But they still have a language. They still have architecture. They still have a society that comes together to solve problems. Granted, it’s a lot different than what human civilizations look like, because of the whole “impervious to harm” thing, but they have it, and that’s what’s important.
You know what else is important? Their language. Especially their language. Good lord I am not normal about their language.
Their language is made up of sounds that mimic the world around them. Some words are built up out of rippling streams and birdsong, while others are made out of sounds impossible for us to even hear. Their words are crafted, and many are made to have double meanings and ambiguity. They can’t be ambiguous when they trade thoughts and ideas through their minds, so the notion of being able to say something with multiple meanings fascinates them. They write songs and poetry, and they are engrossed with it, because sound has never carried so much meaning before. They make jokes. They find misunderstanding hilarious, because they’re so alien to their usual way of communicating. They adore puns. Language isn’t a necessity for them, but they developed it anyway, because it gave them a new way of having fun that they had never encountered before in their billions of years of being alive.
Later on, when humanity comes into the scene, they realize that they can use this thing called language to talk to them. Humanity is not like the gods, humanity needs to communicate through a physical medium, whether it be through sight or hearing or touch. Humanity is often confused or overwhelmed when the gods converse with them, because they find that many of the sounds the gods use are completely incoherent. They can’t recreate the sound of thunder in the sky, or crackling flame, and often they look around them in fear, as if the sound alone is indicative of danger.
So, the gods adapt. They learn the languages of humanity, instead, and talk to them in their own tongues. But mortals are curious, and the gods love to learn and teach, so it isn’t long until the gods try to translate the sounds of their language into something humanity can listen to and understand. The music of the slow cracking of the earth is shifted up in pitch until mortals can hear and hearken to the sound, and the mortals in turn recreate it with what their voices will allow. Slowly, the gods make their language perceivable, and slowly, humanity teaches them how to make it pronounceable.
The resulting speech is neither mortal nor divine, but somewhere between the two. Its words have a rippling quality, and in each sentence one can almost hear what is being spoken. The word for wave becomes a low crash, the word for music becomes a dancing song in the ears of whoever is there to listen. There is no doubt that there is magic in these words, with the way they call everyone in the room to their attention and fill their hearts with the very soul of what is being said. This language is not magic in a sense of control, it does not bind things in the world to its will, but it carries with it the memory of the world it was made to describe.
Later on, this middle ground, this speech both mortal and divine, would become lost and forgotten. It would not vanish violently, with the sudden fall of an empire, nor would it fade away with the few who are “worthy” of speaking such a tongue. No, instead it would grow and evolve with the people who learned it, moving across the continent and coming into contact with new lands and people. There, it would teach and learn in turn, and then diverge again, becoming yet another middle ground.
Slowly, like this, the language of humanity and gods together disappears. It does not die, but it dissolves, morphed into a thousand little pieces that stay on in other languages. It can still be found, if you look close enough, at the way speakers arrange their words, or in the rhythms they like to sing. Not even its name is truly past, still being borne by a speech that closely resembles the one long gone.
No, the language of mortals and the gods does not die, because, even in the darkest of days, when it seems like the world will perish and all life along with it, each syllable uttered in fear echoes the language that once carried nothing but joy, and each sentence given in comfort is another window into the years when things were bright. The tongues of mortals do not forget, even if humanity itself has.
And even so, were the speech of humans ever to forget what they helped to create, the gods would still remember. And maybe, the gods would teach and be taught by the mortals once again, in spite of the mutilated darkness that enshrouds these present days. Perhaps they already have.
#OH GOOD LORD I DID NOT INTEND THAT TO BE THAT LONG LOL XD#i get carried away. what can i say.#anyways this is literally all my worldbuilding is for. poetic vast avatar behavior.#if you read all of this i love you. you did not have to do that.#but yeah there’s a lot more to this world and a lot of it is super interconnected so sorry if anything was confusing#i took tolkien’s model of “make it dumbass complicated” to heart lol#the “mutilated darkness” thing isn’t just there to sound pretty. there is lore. The main villain is titled “the thief of darkness”#and it’s a huge deal that darkness was not originally malicious but was instead stolen to be used for the thief’s ill designs#good lord there is too much lore and if i don’t talk abt some of it i am going to physically explode#but also idk how or where to do that bc i don’t wanna make it inaccessibly complicated#i dunno maybe i should just bite the bullet and start writing my own silmarillion or something.#at least the novel i conceptualized when i was 15 and proceeded to do all this for#i gotta do something with it. i can’t just let it stagnate now can i#but anyway yeah this is very much so self-indulgent rambling hahaha :’D#what can i say. gods and deities and ancient worlds beyond comprehension and also the power of gay make brain go brrr :P#fantasy#worldbuilding#exestentialism#??????#idk what this is tbh#language#linguistic rambling#rambles#tag rambling#blorbo brainrot brainfog#not tolkien#ocs#long post

Writing Notes! A Song of Thunder and Ice
I’ve gotten a few questions about writing the last chapter’s Bard fight scene , and these kind of asks make me GIDDY AF.
Prepare for a long explanation!
Spoilers below.
I ALWAYS listen to music when I write, but before that I usually spend some time walking and listening to music. The movement and music jumpstarts my thought process, but it gives me a chance to shuffle through various forms of music and see how the intended scene is going to work.
For the regular scenes, the mood and lyrics are key. Sometimes I have an idea and I just can't seem to get it to work ... then random pulls up the PERFECT song ... and I discover something new, or rediscover something I forgot and -- boom -- I can hear the dialogue and the flow of the plot moves naturally.
Other times it just doesn't happen.
That's how it happened the first time Hunter faced down the false Golden Guard. All the songs I wanted Hunter to use to kick butt just didn't work. Then a friend started talking about Pulp Fiction, and I remembered Miserlou. The more I researched it, the more I realized how perfect it was.
We've seen Hunter use Bard magic a few other times in the series, but this was his second BATTLE and he is fighting it alongside Raine who we now know was his teacher and has become a close friend.
Even though Raine taught Hunter (more than just guitar) they have distinct styles. We know that they have jammed together in the past with Steve for fun, but fighting together was a different beast.
I imagined they'd use their fox violin/palisman (whom I called "Freddie" after Freddie Mercury in a shorter fic.)
Obviously, Hunter would summon his Rickenbacker... so I began to think about how rock music and violin would fit?
I began to think about Lindsay Stirling and her electric violin, which led me down a rabbit hole of her catalog. Roundtable Rival was a real contender here ... but I wanted Hunter to use a song that was closer to the quick sharp sound he'd used in that first fight.
I also wanted there to be a weather component to it since this fight takes place during Winter on the Boiling Isles.
Thunderstruck by AC/DC leapt right out at me. Yeah. Hunter would play Thunderstruck and summon a storm.
I began listening to the opening of Thunderstruck along side several of Lindsay Sterling's Violin pieces and came across Ice Storm ... which was just TOO good a match up. Ice Storm had a similar fury to what I was going for -- it had a weather based title, and it managed to be elegant while maintaining a modern undercurrent that hit the right notes (pun intended. I'll show myself the door.)
Aside from listening to the two songs back to back, I also listened to 2CELLOS version of Thunderstruck, which is as close to an actual mashup of the OG AC/DC song and Ice Storm as exists IRL.
Hope this wasn't too self indulgent!

WEIRD! NICHE! DIFFICULT TO ENJOY!
In honor of my dismay over Grubstep not being a real album, I'm recommending some of my favorite WEIRD, NICHE, and DIFFICULT TO ENJOY music to you all. I get to be weird and pretentious as a treat. Noise warning for basically all these.
The Shaggs - "Philosophy of the World" : I'm starting off with a doozy here but since discovering it from a "worst song" poll I have been obsessed w this. It's an album written and performed entirely by a group of teenage sisters with 0 musical training - they even developed their own system for writing down and reading music, since they never were taught the usual one. It's actually been fairly influential, apparently... It's certainly unique, you can tell it's very meticulously put together but in a way that you would never expect someone to do on purpose. The songs all have a very mournful undertone to them even when the lyrics are ostensibly cheerful. My favorite song on the album is "My Pal Foot Foot," about the girls' cat that got away from home.
The Magnetic Fields - Various Songs : The Magnetic Fields is a band that's always worth listening to but not always weird, niche, or difficult to enjoy. Every now and then, though, they'll put out a more experimental number that knocks you right on your ass when you try to listen to it in the middle of an otherwise fairly accessible album. I think this is a highly respectable thing for a band to do. Examples of these unusual songs are "The Day I Finally...," "The 1989 Musical Marching Zoo," "How Fucking Romantic," "Love Is Like Jazz," and "Experimental Music Love."
Captain Beefheart - "Trout Mask Replica" : It's difficult to describe what's happening in this album and I'm really not going to try. Less harsh noise than a lot of the stuff on this list but just as discordant. Fair disclaimer that I haven't looked up all the lyrics yet because it's really long and I mostly can't understand what he's saying, though. My favorite on this album is "Ella Guru."
Le Butcherettes - "Mr. Tolstoi" : This is just one song. Le Butcherettes' other songs are also awesome but not particularly weird or difficult to enjoy. This one specific song rules so hard though that it deserves a spot on this list despite being only 1 song. It's very frenetic and high energy and she's doing like, a bad fake Russian accent. It rules.
Ada Rook - "UGLY DEATH NO REDEMPTION ANGEL CURSE I LOVE YOU" : This is one of the more accessible albums on this list (?) and I debated whether to include it at all because I was thinking it is very well thought out and polished and therefore might not be weird or difficult to enjoy enough, but then I thought, I probably have a higher bar for weird and difficult to enjoy than most people, I don't think I'd hear it on the radio, and it is such a good album that I hate to ever not include it while making music recommendations. It's one of my all time favorites. It's hard to pick favorite songs off this album because every single song is a strong contender, but I guess I'd say my favorites are "Tru U" and "Gravity Weapon."
Clown Core - "Van" : Recommended to me very recently by @gr3y-heron, this one is instrumental aside from possibly some heavily distorted yelling. Lots of different instruments thrown together in really cool ways. They use clown squeaky horns sometimes. Pretty great.
Machine Girl - "Wlfgrl" : Not sure how niche Machine Girl is but I do think it's weird and difficult to enjoy. Instrumental aside from some samples of movies and things, very cut up electronic. I think it's breakcore but there are so many different names for music subgenres please don't kill me if I'm wrong. I just listen to them I'm not up on the information.
Dorian Electra - "My Agenda" : This is a lot more out there than Dorian Electra's first album, and is like, a concept album based on toxic masculinity and incel culture. This is another I'm not 100% sure is actually niche but I don't really know how to tell, to be honest. It gets pretty explicit so watch out for that. My favorite song on this album is "Ram It Down."
Cardiacs - "Sing To God" : A CLASSIC weird album. So much is happening in this album. "Dirty Boy" is apparently considered the best song on the album by a large number of people, and I do like it, but my personal favorite by a long shot is "Fiery Gun Hand."
Is my music not WEIRD, NICHE, and DIFFICULT TO ENJOY enough for you? Well, if you can do better, I'd love to see it. No, seriously. Please show me if you have any weirder, more niche, and/or more difficult to enjoy music. I like that stuff but it's super hard to find and I'm dissatisfied with my collection.
#honorable mention to wild man fischer btw#i havent had a chance to listen to enough of his stuff to put him on the list yet but his song merry go round rules#look up wild man fischer merry go round and you can see#if you're wondering why no vocaloid is on here. i just dont think its weird enough#i <3 vocaloid but despite its reputation its often not that Out There musically. just the lyrics sometimes#if you have Legit Weird Niche And Hard To Enjoy vocaloid though. show me immediately

|| A Lonely Sinner - samlrc ||
Genres: Post-Rock, Ambient, Shoegaze
REVIEW
This is EASILY the best project I've heard so far this year. Without a doubt. There isn't a second on this entire album that manages to bore me, which is very impressive considering the length of some of the songs on here. The production is impressive as hell, transitioning through calm, relaxing moments into fast-paced and exciting moments within the same tracks.
Opening with the calm yet perculiar ambient track 'Lamb Theme', the tone of the album is set immediately and expertly with sheep noises and undiscernible echoing sounds, eventually introducing a piano. We move on to the second track: 'Philautia'. This 12 minute masterpiece which is the first real song on the album introduces us excellently to samlrc's talent and style in creating music. The violins and acoustic guitar of the beginning of this track are reminiscent of the kind of music I'd expect to hear in Minecraft, and that's certainly a complement. Samlrc sings alongside a calming acoustic guitar in the middle of this track, which is abandoned after some time for a hype-inducing drum pattern that progresses the song. This leads into a standout guitar-part as the song comes to a close with airy vocals after the guitar has gone.
'Sinner' is a must-hear of this album. The strength of its middle section is unparalleled from almost any song I've listened to before, with powerful guitars and drums to keep a slow rhythm while the distortion booms in the background after the subtle beginning to the track. It's a must-have on your playlist, and debatably the best song on this album.
After leaving the title track, 'Flowerfields' presents us with a dramatic piano and hypnotic background vocals to soothe us from the sheer unstoppability of the last song. I'd contend this to be the least-enjoyable moment of the album, yet it manages still to be a pleasant listening experience. It still manages to be an excellent segue from 'Sinner' to 'Storge', this albums other 12-minute track. It opens with an odd arrangement of sounds, and vocals which are silly at best, but soon moves onward to create a tense atmosphere with booming, shoegaze-y guitars in the rigid rhythms which have come to suit samlrc well.
'Storge' is not a track to be underestimated, being my personal favourite on the album. It's cinematic vastness in the middle of the song is truly fantastic, crossing a hurricane of noise into the heavy guitar riffs that build into the end of the song. It's not often an album can make you feel like you're drifting through a lake on a lily pad AND make you want to headbang just tracks apart, but samlrc manages it. 'Storge' eventually moves into the calm territory just as it's about to end, completing the songs fantastic journey and fading seamlessly into 'Sheep Theme'. This is the only song I'd describe as standard. It doesn't present us with much uniqueness in terms of music, bar samlrc's tremendous production. Despite being 'standard', it's definitely a banger. Samlrc proves she can write the music of the everyman and the music of the experimentalist.
The triumphant 'For M.' is the last proper song on this album, and it is really a brilliant piece of music. It properly brings everything to a neat close halfway through the song, only to build itself up once again to guide us into the last track; 'The Beauty of the Present Moment'. I don't have much to say about the closing track, other than it's a very pleasant ambient piece which ties a bow on everything on our way out.
This is a brilliant listening experience for anyone wishing to do so. I could not recommend this more. The weakest aspect of this project is the wispy lead vocals which could use more definition, yet they still add to the atmosphere in many places. This is expertly produced, written, performed, and is enjoyable throughout
FINAL SCORE: 95/100

Which are the saddest songs from each albums(we know track 5 always doesn't mean sad) and why do you think that?
oooooh
i feel like i need to say the outside for little nine year old claire who would sob hysterically while listening to it, though ttwas is definitely a contender.
the best day isn't necessarily a sad song, but it's definitely made me cry the most. i think breathe is probably the one that is the most purely sad-- most of the other songs are laced in with anger, or that kinda pride you get when you're able to push through heartbreak, but breathe is just. there's nothing you can do
never grow up. in every meaning of the word. its sad because the song is trying to be sad and also sad when you add more context and its sad in a relatable way and in the way you get sad when you have to watch someone you love go through something hard and theres nothing you can do to help and just. yeah its so sad
ronan, far and away. if we're only counting the original, though, then probably the last time-- its just. the added layer of knowing something is bad for you and yet being unable to move on is just. oof
wildest dreams is the most sad on its own, but the combination of welcome to new york and you are in love is just so. the lights are so bright but they never blind me. you can hear it in the silence, you can see it with the lights out. kaleidoscope of loud. other things im probably forgetting-- it just adds this layer of like. taylor convincing herself that the life she wanted was one that was fundamentally inhospitable to any genuine connection, which just. oof
dwoht. the idea of writing a breakup song about someone you are currently dating because you are so convinced that by the time the album comes out you will have broken up is just. fucking sad
soon you'll get better. second place goes to the archer which i sobbed to for four hours straight the day it came out and almost cancelled all my plans because i didnt think i could go three hours without crying some more
i feel like this one really comes down to personal taste. on first listen i would have told you my tears (its not canon but @taylorswiftdebut had a wonderful take on it where she said it was a song sung by all the past versions of yourself that you've had to outgrow, and just. yeah) but peace has really crept up on me (once i accidentally sang will i be enough when i can never give you peace and that little word change just rocked me to my core).
another one that really comes down to personal taste, but happiness is always gonna take the cake for me. almost every lyric is just this knew deeply relatable gutpunch that just. "they'll be happiness after you, but there was happiness because of you, too" is such a succinct way to say that it always throughs me off kilter
i almost didnt finish listening to dear reader because that first verse seemed tailor made (hah) to send me into some of the worst decisions in my life and it wasnt til i heard "never take advice from someone whos falling apart" that i was like okay okay okay this is supposed to be bad advice okay okay. does not make it any less of a fucking callout to all of my insecurities though

Thoughts on Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
Just my raw thoughts, not a review or anything
At this point I would say I'm used to a specific type of zombie media, it usually is one of 3 things: deep studies into human behavior and relationships with the zombies as basically background noise, exploitation and comedy with zombies as a thing to parody or the classic horror stuff with some gore to make it scary and yet here we have something new, something that isn't just mixing and matching some aspect of the 3 but rather thinking of something different and asking the question, can we use zombies to tell a story about happiness and hope? Zom 100 is a story about Tendo Akira, a recent worker struggling to remain conscious while working conditions crush all the hopes, dreams and even willpower he has to offer in exchange for a pitiful life of nothing. Low salaries, excessive working hours plus extra hours and a toxic workspace beat down his spirit into submission, a struggle all too familiar to most young workers for the past decade… and that is when the zombie apocalypse starts, Akira wanting to rethink his life choices and now live free to do whatever he wants instead of what society expects of him thus creating the eponymous bucket list of the dead which slowly increases as our protagonist recuperates more and more of his past self in a sort of healing process to regain his individuality and identity while also introducing a few other characters to the journey that in different ways have committed the same mistake and will embark with Akira in this quest to find happiness and fulfillment. One of the most interesting parts of Zom 100 is the way the zombie metaphor morphs around the issues facing the main cast like for example while it early on represents the way society beats you down into just another worker hence Akira leaving his work and the zombie apocalypse being one in the same, then changing into a metaphor for isolation and the lost of culture when Akira goes back to his hometown being an extremely clear example of said morphing and creating newer ways to use the zombie concept while still telling the same story via the ever popular concept of a bucket list. Zom 100 subverted what I expected and gave me a show that shines with joy and optimism in a genre where either cheese or action dominate yet it still was a fun watch that didn't ever get tedious or overstay its welcome. An anime that I hope eventually returns despite all its production issues if not only to listen to whatever they'll try to come up with to top the opening "Dystopian Song of the Dead" which while taking most of the show to be completed and only showing in full for 3 episodes was one of the most fun anime OPs in forever and a contender for the best of 2023 along with SPECIALZ, Idol, bloom and innocent arrogance.
No show is perfect but they don't have to be, writing is about expressing your ideas through the form of art most able to give people a chance at understanding your mind and desires, I truly hope Haro Aso keeps improving and can finish this bucket list the same way he writes his characters.
#zom 100: bucket list of the dead#zom 100: zombie ni naru made ni shitai 100 no koto#zombie#anime#rambling#rambles

Avenged Sevenfold’s Life is But a Dream Tour
Avenged Sevenfold is a band I’ve followed and listened to for a long time. From their early years until now, they have evolved collectively as a band, overcoming many hurdles over the years, and also evolved their music simultaneously.
Being a member of their NFT token club, the Deathbats Club, or the DBC, I knew I had no choice but to jump at the opportunity to photograph them during their stop on the Life Is But A Dream tour. For those of you who have no clue about the DBC, I’ll drop some helpful information at the end of this article.
Their opening act was Kim Dracula. There’s no better way to explain Kim’s music than saying this is just the beginning for him. While still very fresh on the scene, his potential is limitless. You could describe him as similar to a fine wine, one could say. He will only get better and better with time. If you think he’s a sleeper, you’re wrong. This Australian act will be a top contender in a few years!
Kim Dracula is an Australian alternative/indie music artist whose songs have achieved popularity on TikTok.
Following behind was another artist I’ve listened to for a long time and this would be Ronnie Radke’s Falling in Reverse. Ronnie has a truly unique perspective when it comes to music and it’s brilliant. Falling in Reverse continues to bend genres and isn’t defined to any type of music. His vision is his vision and the passion spills into the crowd with every note. Love him or hate him, as most people do one of those, you can’t deny that he has an extreme amount of talent and passion. The music scene and the world needs more of Ronnie, a genuine person who speaks their mind and continues to break the norms. The highlight of the show wasn’t him playing “Popular Monster” or “The Drug In Me Is You,” rather than when he split the pit wide open, hyped everyone up to go hard, and then sang Smash Mouth’s “All-Star!” Ronnie has a vision that is beautiful and insane.
The chair emerges and a spotlight beams down as M Shadows, draped in his “Nobody” ski mask, is sitting observing the crowd work into a small frenzy. “Game Over” and “Mattel” began and blended into each other. The best part of Game Over is the old-school hardcore punk feel it gives off, no doubt a tribute to Brooks Wackerman’s, Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer, legendary past bands within the punk scene. Most people disliked the new album from Avenged Sevenfold, but those people failed to see their vision. It’s about really pushing the envelope on music and their capabilities as artists. It’s about writing meaningful lyrics, it’s about topics they’re passionate about, and it’s about them producing an album that they love. Any band can regurgitate the same sound over and over, failing to evolve or change direction, and some do. While this album wasn’t for everyone, you can tell it was for them and the fans who just love all kinds of music. My favorite part of it all is that you can see how much they love to play this album. M Shadows looks like he’s constantly having a blast on stage. When an artist truly loves what they’re playing and it translates to live concerts, there’s no doubt that the audience feels it too.
While many old-school fans teared up during “So Far Away,” especially with a silhouette of their late drummer, The Rev, it was evident that there were a lot of new fans within the crowd. The largest burst of excitement from the entire night rang out when the iconic warbling sound, for a lack of better words, bellowed to mark the beginning of “Nobody.”
For those of you who aren’t familiar with NFTs asor anything involving web3, that makes two of us. I’m not a cryptobro or an expert on the subject, but I do know about the DBC. While some NFTs are just JPEGs as some may say, the DBC is much more. They have perks or utilities attached to each one of them. What that means is that every Deathbat within the club has basic perks of skipping the line at every headlining show, exclusive DBC merch, and giveaways for members only and that’s every Deathbat. There are Deathbats that are rarer and more expensive and come with even more perks like meet and greet access for life, free tickets for life, limited merch drops, or even coffee with Brooks or golfing with M. Shadows. You can purchase DBC tokens on Coinbase NFT here!
The best part of the DBC is how active the band is within the Avenged Sevenfold Discord, especially M Shadows. He’s always in the Discord channel interacting with fans and he’s always lurking. Within the Discord channel, you can find the “Token Hub,” which is where you can ask anyone about how to purchase a DBC token if you’re on the fence or don’t know how to. Their Discord channel is really a one-stop shop for everything associated with the band, whether it is their march, tour dates, Drinks with Johnny, or anything else. The DBC acts like a family, queue “Welcome to the Family,” and it operates as such as well. Whether you want to purchase a Deathbat, that’s up to you, but giving the exclusive merch and skip-the-line perks alone is enough for me, hence why I own several DBC tokens, but being a fan is more than enough for the band and their 3rd leg of the Life Is But A Dream tour is rolling out next year, so make sure you check them out near you!

𓆣 4, 15, 26, 29 for the ask game 𓆣
hello hi hello!
4: Hard to say, really. I would say the two series that I've liked the most have been The Last Dragon series and Artemis Fowl, but they're likely colored by rose tinted goggles more than a bit. Worm is definitely a top contender, even if I quite like that one largely for the many many fanfictions it's inspired rather than the novel itself.
If I truly had to say only one novel, gun to my head I'd say Armageddon?? by Stuart Slade would have to be my favorite. It's techincally not a true published work, but that's largely due to the fact that it was leaked all over the web my the first publisher he sent it to for ideological reasons. Basically the premise is that god declares that heaven is closed and true believers should lay down and die, and while some humans do that a lot more of them say 'Well that sounds like a raw deal' and flip the bird to god, and in response the armies of hell march upon the world. While I love the premise, apparently some person who read the manuscript thought it was blasphemous and leaked it all over the web, making it essentially unpublishable. It really sucked, because Stuart Slade had already written the second book as well, but without funds couldn't afford to write the third one. The second book is also up online, and the series actually developed enough of a cult following that he started writing the third book and posting chapters online, but unfortunately shortly afterwards he died of Covid and thus the series will never be finished and all the amazing plot threads will never really be resolved. Really good two books however, look up The Salvation War if you wanna read it, and if you have trouble finding it lmk and I can help!
15: This one was hard so I have 2 sentences.
Less alliteration version: A being in flux, trying to get herself off the ground and into the world, finding out how to connect with others and waiting for the other shoe to drop, impossibly tired yet pushing onwards in hope that one day she’ll find a home where she can create and rest and feel safe.
More alliteration version: Confusing confounding Creature full of contradictions, who currently is in a cruddy and confusing place and feels more and more cracks every day, but despite that continues to claw her way through the calamities of life.
26: Kinda cruddy, I’ve had a pressure or infection or something at the back of my nose for a while and I tried washing my nose with a netty pot only to realize after that you cant just use tap water, you have to actually use a saline solution. Also tried washing it with some raw apple cider vinegar which may have been a bit of a mistake. Got some nasal spray, so I do hope that kicks in sooner rather than later.
Buuuut I have finally been able to sit down to play some EDF 6, so hey, that’s p nice. Its been a longass day and its nice to have a bit of time to relax, even if I will need to go to sleep kinda soon.
29: Ok this one is REALLY hard because essentially every single song I listen to has no lyrics lmao. I think my fav song lyrics at the moment however are from I Just Want To Exist by Empty blue, the opening thing really hits hard and is a huge mood that I feel right now.
I didn't ask to be here, to be a part of any of this I was just sort of born onto this planet and in this life And every day since, I've had to validate my existence Prove myself at school, prove myself at work, prove myself to my community, prove myself to God I have to pay to stay alive, I have to work so that I'm able to pay I have to grind away to get all of these resources that aren't even mine because I have to get them to someone else just to validate me (I deserve to exist, deserve to exist)
#Sorry for the delay in answering#15 kept me for a lot longer than maybe i should have thought about it

10/31 - 11/1/2023
tuesday - wednesday
tomorrow is errands day and tonight i saw a movie. also, happy halloween or i hope there was a good halloween somewhere around these dates.
the movie wasss: texas chainsaw massacre! i've seen it before, i loved it ofc, i loved seeing it in the theater cuz of how loud it was, which really made it more intense, i almost cried a couple times not from fear but empathy with what sally was experiencing and how the movie transferred that onto you, the closeups, the screaming, the camera's moving from closeups to totally unrelated views, beautiful shots amidst the terror. people laughed a lot when she was being beaten, called a bitch, crying, when the men were on screen attacking her, clumsy, never any consequence for that clumsiness until the end, but until then they simply can do as they please, weightless, they seemed to approach the movie like it was goofy or a b movie and not an extremely knowing film about how basically horrifying america is / tradition is / family entrenched in those exact ideals is, and the intentionality behind all the imagery, the cattle toward the beginning, all the folk art-y bone sculptures, stuff like that, i dunno, the movie really presents these extremely regular things that surround us (these kinds of values, that approach to life, animal or human being something to be used until it's all over, or even things like the father wanting to save his electric bill and get the door), and makes us contend with them as the horrific things they are, and present us with the misery they incur as extremely as possible, to drive at a point. it's also a shockingly beautiful film.
as usual when we go to this theater, we unexpectedly hung out with a friend for a while after, and saw our friend who is a waitress at the place we ate at, hung with her a bit. it was a lovely time, pretty much. this friend was at a separate conference while my gf was at hers so it was fun to hear his stories, tell him about the psychosis of arizona. you know. but maybe you don't. maybe i am too exhausted to write the other part of that poem i am doing with my friend tonight. i dunno. i should do that now.
also i didn't record today, i should have, but i got caught up in a vc session. tragic kind of, i wanted to keep my momentum, but i will try tomorrow. some short song(s?) maybe.
anyways, listening to this song a lot:
youtube
i didn't expect this record of theirs to be so good, and especially that they'd have a song this good on the album. strange how they really just go for that blood brothers-y thing on this one kind of, not just in the vocals, and not totally instrumentally, not as spastic or fast, but it is pretty whitebelt in the writing of the riffs i dunno. hard to put into words why, but it just recalls that whole thing. i think the record is a little genius but maybe it's because i like that song so much in particular.
anyways, i don't know what else we did today. i didn't eat a lot, i finished all my working out.
anyways, i should sleep now, so
byebye!!!!
