people that think that the insulindian phasmid appearing at the end of disco elysium is anticlimatic just don't Get disco elysium. the phasmid is the conclusion to lena's subplot, yes, but it's also about hope. no one believed it could exist, not even lena herself in the end, but it Did exist. and you press on, and you help this woman and her husband with this impossible quest to find this creature, and they lose hope and go home, and there's nothing else for you to do about it. but you find it at the very end. do you all get it. do you all understand. that even in such a bleak world, a small sliver of hope remains.
#i was listening to a disco elysium video and the person talking was making a lot of sense until he reached that point#and it was like. you don't get it !!!!! you don't understand the game if you think it's an unnecessary detail#without the phasmid disco elysium paints a world in which there is no place for hope. everything is doomed#why even bother yk. it's better to just give up or something#but the phasmid turns that 'dumb' quest into something much more meaningful#it Was worth it. no one thought so but it Was#the phasmid being part of the conclusion of a game that has the line 'in the dark should the stars also go out?'....#it literally writes itself#mona.txt

Your opinion is valid, though it would've been smarter if you ignored all the angry anons. There's no point in arguing about something one person dislikes and another one really likes. Yeah we hear yall, but nobody's mind is going to be changed here lol and sometimes that's fine
thanks for the unsolicited advice on how to deal with my own ask box 🙄 would you believe i only posted about a third of all the hate messages I've gotten? You want me to keep quiet, because if we see that our other white fans are harassing me over this it might lead you to the conclusion that you're on the side of immediately attacking someone instead of actually listening to them.
It's not fine that yall are so deluded that your game is perfect that you're totally, completely unwilling to accept that their attempt at diversity was bad. that knee-jerk reaction is some caucasian nonsense i see OFTEN, and it makes me feel even more vindicated about my opinion. If i was truly saying nonsense, you people would just ignore me. Instead, I have every disco elysium fan in my asks yelling at me to shut up because i don't know what I'm talking about (we played the exact same game).
Deciding you'll never change your mind because you love your video game so much is actual 3rd grader activity. What's wrong with you?

🎶✨when you get this, list 5 songs you like to listen to, publish. then, send this ask to 5 of your favorite followers🎶
Oh hai hello hiii! Thanks for sending ask!
Since I have MASSIVE problems with choice, I'm gonna list 10 songs in no particular order whatsoever. I also wont send this to anyone back because... ug.... lazy... And I hate to choose favorites. And besides you don't want to have this ask back at ye for a weird loophole of ask memes.
I completely sidetracked...
Cookie's unorganized and chaotic playlist!(with unnecessary descriptions and thoughts)
Ah! - Jeon Yonghyeon - The whole Mignon soundtrack hits my very sweet spot of techno stuff. And it also EXTREMELY fitting the anime itself, oh the vibes <З
Storyteller and N.S.F.W. - Daisuke Ishiwatari & Naoki Hashimoto - I'd put ALL Guilty Gears OST here if I could, it's just THAT good, but these two just... Resonate with me idk :D8 (Also Drift, but...... Ah..........)
Riot - Hollywood Undead and Revolution - The Score - Hooooly Molly, these songs makes me feel so.... Rebellious! I want to start shit up!
The Wolf - SIAMES - I ADORE their music videos, they're very stylish and have so much meaning in them! Also other songs are very cool too!
ANY Sonic OST made by Crush 40 - Blue Bastard holds me hostage for 20 years and I Crush 40 have a very special place in my heart. I can talk a lot about how influential Live and Learn was for me in childhood or how Sonic Heroes' (my most fav game of this franchise) What I'm made of... was my most fav song for a VERY long time, but I'll spare the rant, lol.
Red Stars - The Birthday Massacre - Not particularly favorite song from this band (that'd probably be Kill The Lights or Happy Birthday ) but oh the RAW... They're also were my first, like, Gothic band I really got into in my teen years.
The more sad/calm songs that wont be for everyone's consumptions:
Breezeblocks - Alt-J - Ah yes, Alt-J... I absolutely adore this music video and the song itself resonates with me on... personal level. That's all I'm gonna say. :")8
Scary Love - The Neighborhood - I love The Neighborhood, a lot of their songs are in my playlist, this one (with Crybaby and Daddy Issues) is my top favs tho. They're like a epitome of my edgy cringy almost-emo teen age era with their songs. I also cant believe they got THE Tommy Wiseau to play in this vid, that's WILD.
Gooey - Glass Animals - Glass Animals are THE band to play on bground while getting absolutely stoned out of your mind bwahaha. I mostly listen to them because I like the... vibes? of their music. Very relaxing.
Sedated - Hozier - Ohhh, Hozier.... DONT turn their songs when I'm around ESPECIALLY when we're drinking together, I WILL cry my eyes out due to some issues and associations they bring to my mind :"З8
And stuff that didn't made it to the list mostly cuz I can't choose favorite and ran out of space:
Daft Punk
Mystery Skulls
Linkin Park
Die Antwoord
Darren Korb (Specifically his Hades and Pyre soundtrack)
Disco Elysium OST
The Cure
Various old-timey songs that make me feel very fuzzy and nice
#cookie speaks#cookie answers#solradguy#ask meme answers#I wrote a lot of unnecessary stuff ough#What can I say#I love infodumping#eto.... bleh

February - 2023
Games
Disco Elysium- I’ve actually been slowly going through it for over a year (I would play for a few days and then take a break for a few months and then forget where I am and restart). However I finally finished it and I can very easily say it’s one of my favorite games ever. The writing, the style, the music- what’s not to fucking love.
I could talk about this game for hours and I have actually done that enough to convince friends to play it as well. But I probably can’t say anything that hasn’t been said before me.
Great game- I might be in love with Kim kitsuragi.
Rain world(?)- to be honest I haven’t played it (yet?) but I spend way too much time watching gameplay of it and videos about it, went into a deep dive in the wiki. This world absolutely fascinates me, the ecosystem is just wow- even though it seems like a very difficult game I might actually get it one day.
Decide to include it cause it’s my list and I make the rules, also it ate a chunk of my month.
Monster hunter rise- this is my second time trying to get this game and last time I (apparently) quit before even going on a mission. To be fair it was a combination of my own stupidity and the game’s absolute horrible tutorial that made me drop it so fast.
However given a second shot I’m already having more fun, flipping and riding and monster hunting.
I have no idea if anyone ever cared about a character in this game but the monsters are cool and I love them lots.
Why is there a tower defense section is beyond me- I never liked any kind of tower defense, but this is very much the wrong game for it.
Can’t wait to try a hunt with friends- I heard it’s awesome.
Start again: a prologue- a delightful lil rpg that made me feel a lot. I love time loops as a concept already and this was executed so well- I will cry about it.
Can’t wait for in stars and time!! I need more of this cast and world.
Lookouts- another game I’ve been making my way through oh so slowly, no reason here since it’s not really long. It’s a visual novel and I have trouble focusing on reading, that’s my main issue.
However I’m happy I played it- trans cowboys on opposing sides falling in love and find a way for them to have a life- I am the target audience. I love them.
Hue- sure was a puzzle game. And it was a nice one, pretty sure I got it for free and I mostly used it as something to play while I listen to podcasts. It’s cute and not very long and the puzzles were nice.
Shows
Mob psycho s2- still doing my rewatch, still love my sons.
Darry girls s3- finally got around to it, honestly liked it less then the other seasons however it was a nice end to the show as a whole and I’m glad they wrapped it up nicely.
Animation vs Minecraft- what if I told you the animation you used to watch on YouTube as a child kept going on while you looked away. That there is now a storyline spanning several hours which is very neat and dear to my heart.
How simple are your blorbos? Mine are literally just different colored stick man (they are my sons and I love them very much).
I want everyone to watch it, you can’t understand how hard it goes in the final episodes you don’t understand ahhhhha.
Podcasts
Something rotten- did I start this podcast just cause I wanted more Jacob Geller? Yes.
Am I happy I did that? Also yes.
I do not care even a little about the games they talk about but it’s still fascinating to hear them talk about them (along other kind of related topic)
Personally never heard of Blake Hester before but glad I know him now.
Can’t wait for next season where I might play along since I have one of the games in my library for some reason.
Etc?
The prince by Abigail throne (philosophy tube)- so like one of my favorite trans creators writes a play and uploads it in full- I had no doubt it was gonna be good.
Love the characters, love the themes, and the setting (of being stuck inside a play) is very fun.
But man do I not understand Shakespearean speak but that’s more of a me thing.
Felt a lil cliche/sappy at times but it was cute so I had no problem with it.
#disco elysium#rain world#monster hunter: rise#start again: a prologue#lookouts#hue#mob psycho 100#darry girls#animation vs minecraft#something rotten#the prince

Genshin impact characters as gamers
Characters: Abedo, Kaeya, Diluc, Childe, Zhongli, Jean, Hu Tao, and Lisa
content warnings: Childe being kinda an asshole lol.
authors note: I might do more in the future! These are just my headcanons so if you don't agree that cool! Feel free to let me know what you think they're like as gamers!!
Albedo:
what they look for in a game: Albedo seems like the type to enjoy games with vast worlds that involve lots of exploration and puzzles. I also feel like he like more quiet gameplay- if that makes any sense. Very much "Show, don't tell." Likes walking simulators!
things that turn them off from a game: He dislikes when games over-explain themselves/their plots. He likes to be able to unfold the mysteries and plot threads himself instead of being spoonfed. He also dislikes voice chat bc people are mean. If there is a VC he mutes basically everyone even if it makes teamwork difficult.
how much time do they devote to videogames: Albedo really only plays videogames on days off or when alchemy research has hit a lull.
a game or games that I think they'd like: outer wilds, shadow of the colossus, and journey.
Kaeya:
what they look for in a game: Story-rich games with unique art that explore heavy topics or philosophical themes! but also really likes multiplayer games where he can troll lol.
things that turn them off from a game: If he dislikes the art he finds it hard to play or pay attention to. This doesn't mean he demands picture-perfect graphics! He's mostly into unrealistic and eye-catching graphics/art he likes games with style and flair!
how much time do they devote to video games: Kaeya likes to play after a long day of work to unwind and relax!
a game or games that I think they'd like: Disco Elysium and the persona series!
Diluc:
what they look for in a game: Diluc is a very busy man who likes to be in control of his life and the things that affect it. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that he likes simple and sweet games with low stakes where he is mostly in control if not basically god haha.
things that turn them off from a game: Games that involve him to be emotionally invested or have lots of stressors are not his thing. Games are played to relieve his stress, not make him cry over character death.
how much time do they devote to video games: He likes to play a little bit on his break when he gets the chance or a little bit after work. Doesn't like to play for too long each day or he feels unproductive!
a game or games that I think they'd like: the sims, planet zoo, my time at Portia, stardew valley, and ANIMAL CROSSING!! (I dont care if this is OOC okay. Diluc plays animal crossing on his lunch break. His favorite villagers are the bird ones. His favorite fruits are apples and cherries, and he loves terraforming his island. He finds it therapeutic.)
Childe:
what they look for in a game: loves gacha games, he's a total whale, and loves to flex his pulls. Also loves games with intense competitive multiplayer and couch co-op games. Absolutely a sore winner who everyone hates playing jack box with.
things that turn them off from a game: Dislikes the story mode of most games bc they usually fail to keep this attention. He'd much rather be making yo mama jokes and shit-talking n00bs over the mic like the little asshole gremlin he is. The only exception so far is "The Last of Us," because of one time when the internet was shitting out on him during matchmaking. He decided to play the story while his connection got itself together and ended up liking it.
how much time do they devote to video games: Stays up late playing them at night a LOT. They're usually the reason he's tired the next day.
a game or games that I think they'd like: mario kart, smash bros, arknights, mortal kombat, apex, and dead by daylight.
Zhongli:
what they look for in a game: Zhongli likes simple games with cute graphics and easy controls. Mostly a mobile gamer as he finds most console game controls confusing. Loves virtual remakes of classic games that he used to play with other people physically.
things that turn them off from a game: Really dislikes first-person shooters. He finds them loud and disorienting. Poor old man.
how much time do they devote to videogames: Barely ever plays, might play while having a cup of tea or to pass the time while waiting for something!
a game or games that I think they'd like: mahjong, solitaire, candy crush, and those lumosity games for training your brain.
Jean:
what they look for in a game: At first when jean thought of video games the only thing that came to mind was "a waste of time." As the acting grand master of the knights of Favonius she rarely has time to socialize or even date. That's when she decided to maybe just maybe give dating sims a shot. She's a bit insecure about it, but they give her butterflies without the strain of a real relationship.
things that turn them off from a game: Really dislikes games that glorify villainy or have you play as the bad guy. She also really hates horror games. Fun fact, she played doki doki literature club but missed the warning somehow and WOW she got really upset-
how much time do they devote to video games: As mentioned previously Jean is a busy gal. So she really only gets to play games on her rare days off or maybe just a little before bed.
a game or games that I think they'd like: I don't know a lot of sweet and fluffy dating sims but I feel like the sweet and fluffy ones are her favorite! I've really only played one dating sim before and that was monster prom so I'm gonna use that for the example lol. I know there's a lot of mischief in that game but she always chooses the more moral upstanding choice even if it cost her a date haha.
Hu Tao:
what they look for in a game: Hu Tao is partial to games with gothic aesthetics and horror elements! Specifically really loves psychological horror and unique creature design. Enjoys difficult gameplay and feels a sense of accomplishment when she succeeds!
things that turn them off from a game: When a game is too easy to play she gets bored rather quickly.
how much time do they devote to video games: Frequently plays really late at night while listening to a paranormal podcast or other spooky content.
a game or games that I think they'd like: Dark souls, Darkwood, The cat lady, rule of rose.
Lisa:
what they look for in a game: Like Childe, Lisa likes competitive gameplay. But she's more into fantasy MMO RPGs! She just really loves fantasy things it doesn't have to be multiplayer. Also really likes games with lots of lore and digs strategy turn-based combat! Other game types she likes are visual novels or anything with a good story-driven narrative. Loves being able to discuss fan theories online in forums.
things that turn them off from a game: Mediocre writing, poor/inconsistent world-building, or a lack of lore. She needs a story to sink her teeth into or she just won't play.
how much time do they devote to video games: Probably plays a lot. Really only pausing to correct people's behavior in the library!
a game or games that I think they'd like: World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, League of legends, Darkest dungeon, and slay the spire.
#sparkling tea (headcanons)#genshin impact#Albedo#kaeya alberich#diluc ragnvindr#Childe#tartaglia#zhongli#rex lapis#morax#jean gunnhildr#Hu tao#lisa minci#wow i was today years old when I learn Jean and Lisa's last names

CyberAsk 2077
I was tagged by the lovely @pheedraws! Thank you!
1. When did you buy the game? July 2. It was my gift to myself for getting a job in late June--It was during a Steam sale. I got a few other games, like Disco Elysium, as well, but I haven't really been able to get into anything other than Cyberpunk since I got it.
2. When was the moment you knew you loved the game? I think the moment I realized it was something really special was when you met with Jackie at the noodle stand after the scav mission--I remember being really enthralled with how alive he felt with his subtle animations, like wiping his mouth as he ate and the way his jewelry moved. I almost felt like I was talking to a real person--Not just a well-written and designed character, but a person.
But the moment I knew I loved the game was probably after things go to hell during the Heist. The music and the tension and the atmosphere were just unparalleled to anything I've experienced in a video game.
3. Which character did you romance in your first playthrough? As far as I'm concerned, I romanced Goro. I just didn't get an awkward first-person POV sex scene, lmao.
(I did technically do both River's and Judy's romances just because they were available to me, but I reloaded after I finished them and officially took the platonic route for both.)
4. Whose your favorite NPC? I mean. Obviously, it's Goro. 🥰 But shout-out to (in no particular order) Jenkins, Jackie, Misty, Vik, Evelyn, Judy, Panam, Hanako, Oda, Rogue, Johnny, Regina, and Wako because they all inspired and compelled me in some way and contributed to an amazing experience.
5. Did you have inspiration in mind when designing your V(s)? Not really. I knew I wanted her to have cyberware and scars, and I knew I wanted to give her an unnatural hair color, because I've never done that before--In most of the RPGs I've played, I've always found it kind of immersion-breaking, but it made perfect sense in a cyberpunk world. But other than that, I was just letting the CC options guide me, basically.
I haven't really redesigned Valerie (just different hairstyles and cyberware) since I officially made her, but she is technically version 2.0. The first V I made I was trying to get her sharper features to make her look more like an intimidating corpo baddie, and then I realized the nose/mouth combo I liked in the CC didn't really translate how I thought it would once I got in-game. I kinda I ended up making her look "softer" than I originally intended, but as I got more of a feel for her character, that actually worked better for me.
6. What’s your go-to vehicle? Jackie's Arch and the Caliburns. I do have a soft spot for V's car, if only for the personalized dash I don't even see that often because I drive in third-person.
7. What’s your favorite gig/mission/job? As far as main missions go: Down on the Street, Gimme Danger, Last Caress, and Totalimmortal for obvious reasons, I would think. And I love The Heist--I get chills every single time Yorinobu attacks Saburo and You Shall Never Have to Forgive Me Again kicks in.
For side quests/gigs: I really like both quests with the Peralezes. I like rescuing Saul. I don't really like the gameplay of the Delamain mission but I really like the story and potential outcomes for it. And there are a lot of gigs I like, either for gameplay (I like doing stealthy raids a lot) or lore tidbits, but I can't for the life of me remember any of their names.
8. Which NC radio station do you switch to the most? I listened to Body Heat and Pacific Dreams a lot, but I'm honestly kinda sick of all of the radio stations at this point. 😅 I've considered downloading some of the custom station mods to get some more variety.
Tagging @accalia--wolf, @xnever-fade-awayx, @sarasa-cat, @aniston0-0, @roads-rise-to-meet-me, and anyone else who wants to participate! ♥

Conspicuous Media Consumption, 2020
it’s that time of year again! *saddest toot from the party horn*
for those of you just joining us: it’s a “consume a different content every week for 48 weeks of the year” challenge. for a longer explanation, check out last year’s write-up here, and as always, feel free to pop in and ask questions about any and all of this content.
(same disclaimer as last year too: content for this project ONLY here, and not certain...*looks at my billion Sad Cop Lady posts*...hyperfixations.)
(man remember when i was big into X-Men comics earlier this year? better times than these, if only because no one's discoursing about Emma Frost’s woobie/war criminal ratio anymore--her w/w, if you will)
(...i swear at one point i didn’t exclusively like platinum blondes but alas)
Bitter Root (comic, 1 issue finished 1/1/2020): still very cool on a basic concept level, but runs into the Image Comics problem of just not having enough content to keep my interest beyond that. part of that is on me, for picking it up again BEFORE the second arc rolled out, but the first five issues didn’t really follow (or resolve) any cohesive story either, so...meh.
Immortal Hulk (comic, 3 trades finished 1/17/2020): still not gonna be something i care deeply about (maybe one of Bruce’s Hulksonas dyed his hair???), but i do want to give kudos to Al Ewing for sheer consistency in terms of sustaining this level of quality storytelling month by month for more than two years now. working with the dense archive of the Hulk mythos and managing to make it interesting and thoughtful is impressive even if i personally would not expend the same effort.
Disco Elysium (game, finished 1/18/2020): honestly i should have twigged onto what this year was gonna be like when the third thing i drew from the barrel was pure uncut Eastern European flavored depression. i faintly recall people ragging on it for being pretentiously cynical, but i actually thought its core slid more towards idealism than people give it credit for. also gratified that i haven’t heard anything about Robert Kurvitz using slave labor to finish it, which is a thing we have to say about our video games now!!! fun.
Watchmen (TV, 7 episodes finished 1/27/2020): i am a fool who wants to believe in Damon Lindelof and I WAS RIGHT!!! honestly still cannot believe that he pulled off this highwire act with such deft aplomb. might be my favorite TV this year, which is a pretty high bar given how much TV i ended up watching.
On a Sunbeam (comic, finished 2/1/2020): Tillie Walden rightly deserves all the praise for inventive queer storytelling, but i will say that on reread--since i first read this as a webcomic--there ARE some issues with pacing here that clearly come from the foibles of its original intended medium. still just excellent, even if after some plot significant haircuts i was having trouble telling a few folks apart.
Lazarus (comic, 1 trade finished 2/8/2020): it’s so good and i want moooooorrrreee--though obviously Rucka and Lark have the right to take all the time they need. the newer longer issues work really well with the epic prestige drama vibes of the story! i’m into it.
The Good Place (TV, 4 seasons finished 2/18/2020): i’m gonna be super honest: i actually wasn’t a big fan of the finale, nor the last season as a whole. it felt like all of Eleanor’s flaws vanished for a majority of the season, and the Chidi-centric episode where they tried to give a legible justification for why he’s Like This was...i didn’t care for it. still, it’s so good and unique on the WHOLE that we’ll literally never get anything like this ever again, and that counts for a lot.
The Old Republic (game, finished 2/21/2020): it’s an MMO so it will never actually Be Finished so long as the servers aren’t shut down, but i caught up on the content i’d missed in the intervening months. Onslaught thus far has mostly been...kinda bland tbh; going back to Imps vs. Rebs after all the shakeups in the previous expansions feels like a waste.
High Road (album, finished 2/22/2020): someone should tell Kesha not to say that word!! otherwise i was very happy with this album, and happy FOR her even though we don’t know each other. being able to find joy again in the same genre of music you made while you were being horrifically exploited is very cool.
Young Justice (TV, 13 episodes finished 2/28/2020): given how much the middle stuff dragged--STOP KILLING YOUR HIJABI CHARACTER IN HORRIFIC WAYS--i was...actually kinda mad by how the end managed to stick the landing anyway. the day being saved by Vic’s self-acceptance and Violet’s sublime compassion was A+, and even the Brion/Tara switchup was a pleasant surprise, though it relied on me caring about Brion MUCH MORE than i actually did.
Manic (album, finished 2/29/2020): do people still care for/about Halsey? i feel like even That One Song that was on every tumblr gifset ever has kinda faded into obscurity at this point. this album was...okay. i feel like people give Halsey a pass for extremely obvious lyrical turns that they wouldn’t for other folks because of her subject material--which is fine. not really my cup of tea, but i also listened to lots of Relient K this year, so that’s probably a good thing.
Jade Empire (game, 3/10/2020): the only 3D-era Bioware game that didn’t franchise out, and for good fucking reason!!! the Orientalism and appropriation really haven’t aged well, and even beyond that the story was...standard Bioware faire. even my usual “my wife’s a bitch i love her” Bioware type didn’t do it for me, and i just ended up romancing no one. it did make me think a lot about what level of cultural borrowing is accepted nowadays, and why: people still look fondly at Avatar and talk about how ~accurate and respectful it was, for example, despite it being staffed almost entirely by white folks, and the Orientalism ALL OVER the monk class in DND is still fine for some reason.
Alif the Unseen (book, finished 3/31/2020): interesting to have read this AFTER reading The Bird King last year, because it highlights how the intervening years have shifted G. Willow Wilson’s thematic interest and improved her craft. i’m actually quite fond of how her characterization work is rougher here--Alif is extremely flawed to the point of being insufferable, but it makes his development by the end more satisfying. Dina is also just good and i love her
Baldur’s Gate (2 games, finished 5/31/2020): well, having finally finished the series i’m happy to say that it...still doesn’t really do it for me, sorry. any awesome story moments were overshadowed by the EXCRUCIATING inventory management system and the combat (i still don’t know what a THAC0 is and at this point i’m afraid to find out). these games crucially lack the Home Base that later Bioware games were so good about, and that (coupled with the huge cast of characters you can drop off and never see again) really hurts the intimacy for me. by the time we finally did get one it was the Hell Dimension in Throne of Bhaal, and i was just...trying to get through it. (yes, i did just say that about one of the most beloved expansions ever to one of the most beloved games ever.) THIS particular iteration of “my wife’s a bitch i love her” was very good, but the game wouldn’t let me romance her :(
The Underground Railroad (book, finished 6/19/2020): honestly what is there even left to say at this point! it was exactly as good as every critic on the planet said it was, even with my usual aversion to hype. draining and horrifying in turns but still insistent upon a future for Black folks.
Steven Universe (6 seasons and a mooooooviiieeee, finished 7/11/2020): yes, i DID finish the show and almost immediately begin a rewatch. this series is now one of my top five most formative things, and the amount of love and respect i have for it is incalculable. that said: i once again did not love how the central conflict of Future was resolved (just the resolution--i loved the finale just fine). for all of Steven’s breakdown was built up, resolving it with “EVERYONE HUG HIM UNTIL HE CRIES” felt...cheap, especially since up until this point the show had been so good about treating trauma and mental illness with the respect and nuance it deserves. it made me wish some of the earlier, less substantial episodes had been cut so we could spend more time at the end.
What It Is (comic, finished 8/19/2020): y’all i love Lynda Barry SO MUCH. for the longest time i was worried that One Hundred Demons was more a lightning in a bottle situation but every book of hers i pick up makes me feel obscure emotions i didn’t even realize existed. the compassionate way she’s able to describe her child self and how weird and fucked up she was (and still is) is honestly aspirational.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (TV, 5 seasons finished 9/26/2020): so here’s a reversal of what i’ve been complaining about with other shows: i was mostly lukewarm-to-warm about She-Ra, but the later seasons and the finale made me much more into it as a whole. more shows should improve in stakes and overall quality as they age tbh!! i still don’t actively love Catradora (my sole quibble with season 5 actually has to do with the way Adora kept backsliding as a character to make certain Plot/Relationship things happen), but i’m very happy for them nonetheless. i can certainly appreciate a show that will go for High Feeling over tight plot. dark horse standout moments: trees growing everywhere proving that Perfuma Was Right, and Hordak and Adora seeing each other--that weirdly intimate moment of recognition.
Fetch the Bolt Cutters (album, finished 10/7/2020): again i find myself not having much to say that no one else has said. it’s good! once again love it when an artist reclaims something they’d attached with negative affect (anxiety, depression, disordered eating) for better and brighter things.
Solutions and Other Problems (comic, finished 10/25/2020): i was very into Allie Brosh’s ambition with this book, which feels weird to say but i stand by it. it’s cool to see an artist try to make a new medium work for them instead of just sticking to what already works. not all the experimentation was 100% effective, but it was still delightful and occasionally devastating to read, so.
Legend of Zelda (3 games: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Link Between Worlds, finished 11/1/2020): this was the third time i’d played Ocarina of Time, which made it the nice, comforting groove i settled into before Majora’s Mask blatted me in the face. i’m not usually a completionist Zelda person because...the gameplay in Zelda is bad, do not at me it just is, but i really felt like i HAD to be one for Majora’s Mask since the whole point is to get attached to the banalities of the town. i’m sure nobody’s surprised that i loved it, even if it gave me an existential crisis about how life goes on in the game for NPCs when you’re not there to save them from it, and there’s not enough time to save them all all the time (also not a surprise to anyone: Romani and Cremia gave Personal Feelings). Link Between Worlds...bad. not like in a “this is a bad story by every measurable gauge” way, but i was already struggling with the 2D playstyle shift enough that for the whole story to end with some “yes it’s v sad that Lorule is Like This but trying to steal Hyrule’s privilege is Even Worse Actually” noblesse oblige bullshit left a VERY poor taste in my mouth, this year of all years. i did audibly gasp when Ravio took off his mask, though. i’m currently playing Breath of the Wild in cautious increments; it’s the first time i’ve enjoyed early Zelda gameplay, but if they wanted fully voiced cutscenes i wish they got voice actors who...knew what words sound like.
folklore (album, finished 11/6/2020): my belief that Taylor Swift is Just Fine continues, i’m afraid. i LIKED this album, don’t get me wrong, and respect her constant drive to innovate, but i didn’t love it substantially more or less than any other Taylor Swift album. mostly i’m just tickled by how she thinks leaning into the indie aesthetic means borrowing Vita Sackville-West’s entire wardrobe, though i will admit to feeling Something when she swore in a song. i think it was like. savage vindication?? you go ahead and swear, Taylor Swift. you deserve it.
Shore (album, finished 11/19/2020): do people still care about the Fleet Foxes? i think there was some Drama with Josh Tillman a while back but i don’t remember where the discourse landed with who was being more problematic. it was nostalgic for me to listen to their new album--made me remember being an undergrad who exclusively listened to men who mumbled and played acoustic guitar all over again.
Star Wars (3 movies: original trilogy, finished 11/27/2020): there is So Much bad Star Wars these days that every time i rewatch the original trilogy i’m afraid that they will suddenly be bad, but guess what! they’re not. i love these children and their hot mess stories, i love that Lando doesn’t know how to say his best friend’s name. what stood out to me this time was the way Obi-Wan described the Force in A New Hope, which strongly implied that ANYONE can be Force Sensitive; that obviously faded with each subsequent movie, but part of me does wish they’d kept it.
X of Swords (comics, 22 issues finished 12/5/2020): i am enjoying Hickman’s X-lines!!! not so much here for the Grand Conspiracy or whatever, but the character work and highkey weirdness is fabulous--they FEEL like X-Men, despite all the shakeups in-universe. this crossover is a nice microcosm of all that: grandiloquently all over the place, but still full of cool standout moments and genuine hilarity. ILLYANA DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO SPELL MAGIC.
Fire Emblem (4 games: Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Awakening, finished 12/14/2020): this was the thing that i was closest to giving up early on, but i ended up hyperfixating on it instead. that’s a credit to what the gameplay does to my lizard brain more than anything else, because the story and character writing is...insipid. it was very bizarre to witness this franchise blunder around with its animal-people racism allegory around the same time i was getting back into RWBY, and ITS animal-people racism allegory blunders. Awakening was the first time i felt anything for the franchise beyond “teehee red units disappear make exp bar go up and brain go ding,” so i’m excited for more mature storytelling in subsequent games (they MUST get better. they MUST). the child husbandry thing is...very bad tho, and Apotheosis being “challenging” entirely through the game changing all the rules is also bad.
once again no vidya games that came out this year--i’ll probably pick up Spiritfarer or Hades after the New Year, though (or maybe TLOU II! but probably not. sry Laura and Ashley). more TV and franchises this year, which made me feel In Touch with the Children but was also kinda exhausting. nothing was so egregiously terrible i dropped it without finishing! in a year like this that feels almost like an accomplishment

the trouble is you think you have time (x)
I’m so glad tumblr is giving this movie its day in the spotlight! It’s an old favorite. I haven’t had much time since its resurgence to create anything else yet, but I tried to put together a playlist that was evocative of the moods and themes present in the film.
I tried to roughly match the order of the songs to the plot (at least the major parts of it) so imo it’s best listened to in order, but I can’t tell you what to do. :)
Hope you enjoy!

I was so excited to work with @artfulusername for the @kalluzebminibang! She was a fantastic partner who wrote an absolutely amazing fic which you should go read right now! (Link in the rb!) I’m delighted to have been given the chance to illustrate the soft tenderness of this moment. :’)

My #1 post of 2022
Thinking about if, when Jason died, Bruce publicly ran with a missing person angle in the ensuing media shitstorm. Because it's easier to drop a bunch of money sending private investigators on wild goose chases than it is to explain – and acknowledge – what actually happened. And it's Gotham – missing person cases aren't unusual. They don't hold public attention for long.
But then of course Jason shows back up, and he becomes news again. Except whenever Jason talks to the press, he refuses to play along with Bruce's ruse. He continues to insist that, no, actually he wasn't missing. He was dead!! And now he's not!!
This is how every reporter in Gotham becomes convinced that Jason Todd spent years being held hostage by some kind of apocalyptic cult.

Hey, this is the anon that pointed out that Seol isn't supposed to be real Asian culture
(You know, the one that said that Kitsuragi is a reference to an Evangelion character)
You just completely misread my message
I wasn't trying to explain your feelings, I even pointed out that is very valid to dislike disco Elysium
I was trying to explain the game lore and that you can't criticize Seol as an accurate representation of real Asian culture, because Seol isn't mean to be real Asian culture
Is all made up and if the creators said that the main crop of Seol is Corn and they all mostly eat corn based food, then that is what it is (the creators didn't say that, is just something I made up for an example)
To put it in more simple words I'm trying to tell you that you can't criticize oranges for not being apples, and that is fine that you don't like oranges but don't make an excuse for it, simply say that you don't like them lmao
This seems more a case of you not liking to read
ohhhh you're dumb and have no reading comprehension i get it. asians still exist in the real world, with actual connections to actual culture, you can't just pretend to make up a fake culture (that they admit is based on other cultures) and do your offensive shit within that little world rule. Fuck off, you're so unwilling to see why the character might be offensive that you're actually completely denying the idea that a story bight have taken inspiration from the real world. You're dumb!
is this you, too? Why are we bringing out other people who AREN'T YOU, by the way, to prove that my feelings are invalid? Talk about fucking tokenism! You tripling down on this is crazy, i thought yalls game was about hard discussions. Can't have that here though, you can't point out that the game written by a white guy with no connection to any asian communities mightve been poorly researched. that's ridiculous, i love to sit and read a video game for hours and then not even have the comprehension to understand the problem here!
There are a lot of asian people pointing out the red flags in this game, but what happens is you white fans pile on them so heavily that it's literally easier to just shut up and ignore yalls racist asses. Ever considered that this is the first time you've had to think about this because every time anyone brings it up, they're caucastically laughed out of the room?
You're a coward who can't do basic criticism on your favorite game because it scares you and you can't comprehend that you were complicit to something lowkey racist. You weren't a bad person for enjoying the game, but this spiel attempting to invalidate my very real feelings are the actions of a pale-skinned asshole. Start listening to others because this drowning in your own justification is embarrassing.
